- 0:00Luke chapter 12 Under these circumstances, after so many
- 0:04thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping
- 0:06on one another, He began saying to his disciples, First of all,
- 0:10beware the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
- 0:13But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed, and
- 0:16hidden that will not be known. Accordingly, whatever you have
- 0:20said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have
- 0:22whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the
- 0:24housetops. I say to you, my friends, do not
- 0:27be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no
- 0:31more they can do to you. But I will warn you whom to
- 0:34fear. Fear the one who after he has
- 0:36killed, has authority to cast into hell.
- 0:39Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not 5 sparrows sold for two
- 0:42cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten
- 0:45before God. Indeed, the very hairs of your
- 0:47head are all numbered. Do not fear, you are more
- 0:50valuable than many sparrows. And I say to you, everyone who
- 0:55confesses me before men, the Son of Man, will confess him also
- 0:59before the angels of God. But he who denies Me before men
- 1:02will be denied before the angels of God.
- 1:04And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will
- 1:07be forgiven him. But he who blasphemes against
- 1:09the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him.
- 1:12When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and
- 1:14the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to
- 1:17speak in your defence or what you are to say, for the Holy
- 1:20Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.
- 1:23Someone in the crowd said to him, Teacher, tell my brother to
- 1:27divide my, to divide the family inheritance with me.
- 1:30But he said to him, Man, who appointed me a judge or
- 1:33arbitrator over you? Then he said to them, beware and
- 1:36be on your guard against every form of greed.
- 1:38For not even when one has an abundance does his life consist
- 1:41of his possessions. And he told him a parable,
- 1:43saying the land of a rich man was very productive.
- 1:46And he began reasoning to himself, saying, What shall I
- 1:49do, since I have no place to store my crops?
- 1:52Then he said, This is what I will do.
- 1:54I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I
- 1:57will store all my grain in my goods.
- 1:59And I will say to my soul, soul, You have many goods laid up for
- 2:03many years to come. Take your ease, eat, drink, and
- 2:06be merry. But God said to him, You fool,
- 2:09this very night your soul is required of you.
- 2:11And now who will own what you have prepared?
- 2:15So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not
- 2:18rich toward God. And he said to his disciples,
- 2:21For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life as to
- 2:24what you will eat, nor for your body as to what you will put on.
- 2:28For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
- 2:31Consider the Ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, they have
- 2:35no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them.
- 2:39How much more valuable you are than the birds.
- 2:42And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life
- 2:45span? If then you cannot do even a
- 2:47very little thing, why do you worry about other matters?
- 2:51Consider the lilies, how they grow.
- 2:54They neither toil nor spin. But I tell you, not even Solomon
- 2:57in all his glory clothes himself like one of these.
- 3:00But if God so clothes the grass in the field which is alive
- 3:03today, and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more
- 3:06will He clothe you, you men of little faith?
- 3:09And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink.
- 3:12And do not keep worrying for all these things the nations of the
- 3:15world eagerly seek. But your Father knows that you
- 3:17need these things, but seek His Kingdom, and these things will
- 3:21be added to you. Do not be afraid, little flock,
- 3:24for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the Kingdom.
- 3:27Sell your possessions and give to charity.
- 3:29Make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an
- 3:32unfailing treasure in heaven where no thief comes near nor
- 3:36moth destroys, For where your treasure is, there your heart
- 3:39will be also. Be dressed in readiness and keep
- 3:44your lamps lit. Be like men who are waiting for
- 3:46their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that
- 3:49they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and
- 3:51knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom
- 3:54the master will find on the alert when he comes.
- 3:56Truly I say to you that he will gird himself to serve and have
- 4:00them recline at the table, and he will come up and wait on
- 4:02them, whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the 3rd
- 4:06and finds them. So blessed are those slaves.
- 4:10But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at
- 4:13what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his
- 4:15house to be broken into. You too, be ready, for the Son
- 4:19of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.
- 4:22Peter said, Lord, are you addressing this parable to us,
- 4:26or to everyone else as well? And the Lord said, Who then is
- 4:30the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will
- 4:32put in charge of his servants to give them their rations at the
- 4:35proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his
- 4:38master finds so doing when he comes.
- 4:41Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his
- 4:43possessions. But if that slave says in his
- 4:45heart, my master will be a long time in coming, and begins to
- 4:49beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and
- 4:52get drunk. The master of that slave will
- 4:54come on a day when he does not expect him, and at an hour he
- 4:57does not know, and he will cut him in pieces and assign him a
- 5:00place with the unbelievers. And that slave who knew his
- 5:03master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his
- 5:06will, will receive many lashes, but the one who did not know it,
- 5:10and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but a
- 5:13few. From everyone who has been given
- 5:15much, much will be required, and to whom they entrusted much of
- 5:19him they will ask all the more. I have come to cast fire upon
- 5:23the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled.
- 5:26But I have a baptism to undergo, and how distressed I am until it
- 5:30is accomplished. Do you suppose that I came to
- 5:33grant peace on earth? I tell you no, but rather
- 5:36division, for from now on five members in one household will be
- 5:40divided, 3 against two and two against 3.
- 5:43They will be divided father against son and son against
- 5:46father, mother against daughter, and daughter against mother,
- 5:49mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and
- 5:51daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.
- 5:53And he was also saying to the crowds, when you see a cloud
- 5:57rising in the West, immediately you say a shower is coming.
- 6:00And so it turns out. And when you see a S wind
- 6:03blowing, you say it will be a hot day.
- 6:06And it turns out that way. You hypocrites, you know how to
- 6:09analyze the appearance of the earth, of the sky.
- 6:12But why do you not analyze this present time?
- 6:14And why do you not, even on your own initiative, judge what is
- 6:17right? For while you are going with
- 6:19your opponent to appear before the magistrate on your way
- 6:22there, make an effort to settle with him so that he may not drag
- 6:25you before the judge, and the judge turn you over to the
- 6:27officer, and the officer throw you into prison.
- 6:31I say to you, you will not get out of there until you have paid
- 6:33the very last cent.
