- 4:14Speaker 1: are really popping on the only on network and very
- 4:17Speaker 1: I don't know the own network. Who owns it? Oprah?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Oprah owns it? Oprah owns it now. This show, it's
- 4:23Speaker 1: from one of the I would say top talents directors,
- 4:27Speaker 1: Ava Duvenat. She used to She's the beast. She's a beast.
- 4:31Speaker 1: It's seriously set in Louisiana, follows the lives and loves
- 4:34Speaker 1: of a messy family. I like those shows messy. They's
- 4:37Speaker 1: kind of like a black dynasty. If you oldest me,
- 4:39Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about, Black dynasty family. You know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: if you want to go even further back, they go
- 4:44Speaker 1: back to the country western days, Big Valley, you know,
- 4:46Speaker 1: ponder Rosa, you know, the day the family shows and
- 4:49Speaker 1: stuff like that. This ain't no little house on the prairie.
- 4:52Speaker 1: You know that's that? That was that That was nice show.
- 4:54Speaker 1: This is really this is show where the black people
- 4:56Speaker 1: get messy on own. The show is are as I
- 4:59Speaker 1: said from a happy Award nominating filmmaker ever doing Name
- 5:02Speaker 1: and she's She's the bomb. Not my, my, my, my,
- 5:05Speaker 1: next guest I'm about to bring on the show I've
- 5:07Speaker 1: been I'm gonna tell you about this guy is that
- 5:09Speaker 1: I met him. We're gonna talk about this. I met
- 5:11Speaker 1: him on the Steve Harvey camp and you know, I
- 5:14Speaker 1: was a little jealous of him because you know, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: was writing on the show back in the early Name.
- 5:18Speaker 1: He was on every doing TV show and he looked
- 5:20Speaker 1: good too. And I'm not man because he looked good.
- 5:22Speaker 1: But he was on every doing TV show and I
- 5:24Speaker 1: could but he never did my show because I did
- 5:26Speaker 1: the Parenthood, I did the Sister Sister, I did the
- 5:29Speaker 1: Jamie Fire, and I could never cast his brother. You
- 5:31Speaker 1: know why, because he always had his own series. He
- 5:33Speaker 1: always had his own series. He's one of the most
- 5:35Speaker 1: consistent working actors in Hollywood. He's one of the stars
- 5:39Speaker 1: of the new owned series. Please welcome to Money Making
- 5:42Speaker 1: Conversation Dendre with Phil my brother, Mr Wit Phil. How
- 5:48Speaker 1: are you doing? What's going on? I'm doing well, man,
- 5:51Speaker 1: I'm doing well. And man, I say that man because
- 5:55Speaker 1: you and and jokingly because uh, I admired because we
- 5:58Speaker 1: know Hollywood is uh, it's not a kind to people
- 6:02Speaker 1: of color. You know, the opportunities can't be limited. At
- 6:05Speaker 1: one time, the only way we can get on TV
- 6:06Speaker 1: was on the reality show. Why are black dramas seeming
- 6:10Speaker 1: to seem to be operating now? They seemed to be
- 6:13Speaker 1: working now because you used to be only able to
- 6:15Speaker 1: see African Americans in comedy. We're gonna be funny. Ha ha.
- 6:19Speaker 1: We were funny and nobody would really watch the dramas.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But that seems to be turning now. Yeah. I think,
- 6:27Speaker 1: um that that came out of the fact that a
- 6:32Speaker 1: lot of our dramas has been over sensationalized about who
- 6:38Speaker 1: we are and about what we are. They seem to
- 6:42Speaker 1: have been stuck in the space of telling one side
- 6:45Speaker 1: of our story. Right what you're seeing in Queen Sugar
- 6:50Speaker 1: is the fullness of our story. So you're seeing the life,
- 6:53Speaker 1: the loves, um, the struggles, the successes, um. And you're
- 6:59Speaker 1: also being uh, the truths that are being told through
- 7:03Speaker 1: the lenses of our daily experiences in a country that
- 7:09Speaker 1: has a saying we should show pride in our country,
- 7:12Speaker 1: but sometimes shows us that we aren't valued. So I
- 7:17Speaker 1: think the thing that you understand what I mean, I
- 7:20Speaker 1: think that the thing that really resonates with our audiences
- 7:25Speaker 1: is the fact that there is a great authenticity UH
- 7:29Speaker 1: that is being shared in the storytelling of of this show. UH.
- 7:35Speaker 1: There's no there's no lying about it. We're not cutting
- 7:38Speaker 1: around any truths. We've dealt with Black lives matter, We've
- 7:44Speaker 1: dealt with protests, We've dealt with UH pregnancies, we've dealt
- 7:49Speaker 1: with UH generational wealth, we've dealt with poverty, We've dealt
- 7:54Speaker 1: with UM UH industries that are difficult for our folks
- 8:01Speaker 1: to break into or feel people in. So again, all
- 8:07Speaker 1: of that speaks to the authenticity of the storytelling. And
- 8:11Speaker 1: I think that that's what really resonates with our audiences
- 8:14Speaker 1: is truth. Well resonates with me because I'm a writer,
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'm a producer, and I know you know, I've done
- 8:20Speaker 1: sitcom some sister Sister to Jamie Foxx to Parenthood. So
- 8:24Speaker 1: I know what you're saying is that, you know, being
- 8:28Speaker 1: behind the camera, being the writers. But to my understanding
- 8:31Speaker 1: that this this the production staff is a female influenced staff. Correct, Yes,
- 8:41Speaker 1: it's really a um Eva has her vision show us
- 8:46Speaker 1: to have UH an inclusive set meanings there would be
- 8:51Speaker 1: women involved, there would be uh, folks of color involved.
- 8:54Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, she actually um made it
- 8:58Speaker 1: a mandate that before anyone could present a department head,
- 9:03Speaker 1: they would have to present m viable candidates of color
- 9:07Speaker 1: for those department had positions. Um. And that is not
- 9:11Speaker 1: normally done in our industry. Um. She also she further
- 9:15Speaker 1: made it a mandate that, uh, the directors would be
- 9:20Speaker 1: all female. So every female that we've had for the
- 9:23Speaker 1: past uh three seasons were in the in the midst
- 9:28Speaker 1: of our third season. Every single one of them have
- 9:31Speaker 1: been female, including my own life my wife directed, no
- 9:38Speaker 1: question and um and really, um say Sally Richards and
- 9:43Speaker 1: Whitfield is his wife put the word out's and I
- 9:46Speaker 1: want on my show, Yes the wield because she's a
- 9:54Speaker 1: story in ourselves. Man. You know, she's just incredible actress,
- 9:59Speaker 1: you know, and and has crossed over and it's directing everywhere.
- 10:03Speaker 1: She's directing every sci fi to comedy to drama. She
- 10:08Speaker 1: is turning and turning pages out there, man. And I'm
- 10:11Speaker 1: proud of her. I'm proud of you because y'all live
- 10:13Speaker 1: that balanced life, man, and I like that. Yeah, you're
- 10:18Speaker 1: living the life of of of working hard at whatever
- 10:23Speaker 1: your profession is, but making sure that uh, that you
- 10:28Speaker 1: preserve your your personal space. I told my wife a
- 10:33Speaker 1: long time ago, I said, we gotta work just as
- 10:36Speaker 1: hard at our marriage as we do at our careers. Um,
- 10:41Speaker 1: because that's how you sustain those people, you know, said
- 10:44Speaker 1: you know. And I love it because sometimes people will
- 10:47Speaker 1: come up to me and they would say, hey, you
- 10:48Speaker 1: and Sali still married, and I'm like, yeah, because they're
- 10:52Speaker 1: so not used to people in in Hollywood being together,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you know, for that amount of time. We've been together
- 10:59Speaker 1: for twenty years. We've been married for fifteen of those.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So the union of twenty years in our industry is
- 11:06Speaker 1: like being together for sixty years. Now. The thing I
- 11:08Speaker 1: love about it, I want to let everybody know that
- 11:10Speaker 1: listening and some people who may be watching on Facebook
- 11:13Speaker 1: is his. The beauty of this couple. Um, when it
- 11:16Speaker 1: comes to charity work, they have time. When we needed
- 11:19Speaker 1: him on the step Harveary camp, he came and a
- 11:21Speaker 1: lot of people came and come and lead, or they
- 11:23Speaker 1: do one session and they go, hey, where's the uber.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I gotta get out of here. He you had to
- 11:28Speaker 1: run him off the camp because he was there to
- 11:30Speaker 1: change lives that we can, you know, Sally, when I
- 11:34Speaker 1: needed to comfort the Neighborhood Awards because you know, you
- 11:36Speaker 1: gotta have celebrities of people won't buy tickets, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: she would, I call it the last minute. Sometimes I
- 11:41Speaker 1: call her head a schedule. She made a point that
- 11:44Speaker 1: the importance of being there and and and supporting, and
- 11:47Speaker 1: and and and cherishing and showcasing the talents because it
- 11:51Speaker 1: really the stars of the show are the people in
- 11:53Speaker 1: the community. It's not the people who present their awards.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And she felt that was important. So I love the
- 11:59Speaker 1: way you guys are fact the community. And that's one
- 12:01Speaker 1: of the reasons I know you're starting on on you know,
- 12:04Speaker 1: Queen Sugar, and I'm gonna promote that. And you know
- 12:06Speaker 1: I have been promoting this, but I was more important
- 12:08Speaker 1: to me was let people hear you. Man. You're the
- 12:11Speaker 1: man who had to your passion, your your your career,
- 12:15Speaker 1: your body of work. You know. And because social media
- 12:18Speaker 1: plays an important role, because Queen Sugar is one of
- 12:21Speaker 1: the most popular shows when it airs on social media,
- 12:24Speaker 1: that's important. And to get your story told correct, what's
- 12:28Speaker 1: talk about? And I'm gonna tell you the the importance
- 12:32Speaker 1: of social media. I literally made a postum making a
- 12:37Speaker 1: great clee to our brother uh Floyd Mayweather. He had
- 12:42Speaker 1: made a post uh talking about the value of one
- 12:46Speaker 1: of his watches. It was reportedly eighteen million dollars. And
- 12:51Speaker 1: and what I did was, I said, you know a
- 12:56Speaker 1: lot of people were you know, destroying him over the
- 13:01Speaker 1: fact that you know that that he would invest his
- 13:05Speaker 1: money UM in what would seem to be such a
- 13:09Speaker 1: frivolous purchase when there are people that would you know,
- 13:16Speaker 1: that would obviously um do well in having that money
- 13:21Speaker 1: assists there uh, their educational aspirations, their career goals, UM,
- 13:27Speaker 1: the community, all of those things. And I said, you know,
- 13:31Speaker 1: rather than be one that does the ungodly thing, which
- 13:36Speaker 1: is to shame someone for some of the things that
- 13:40Speaker 1: they may have made, I do as a godly man,
- 13:42Speaker 1: what I try to do is lovingly hold our our
- 13:46Speaker 1: our folks accountable and to bring certain things to their attention.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So through a post, because I don't have a contact
- 13:54Speaker 1: for the brother, just to be honest, UM, I literally
- 13:57Speaker 1: made a post that I said, my brother, you're from
- 14:01Speaker 1: Grand Rapids, Michigan. Not far down the road is Flint, Michigan,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and our community could be resuscitated by that kind of money,
- 14:12Speaker 1: your wealth could actually revive an entire community. You're talking
- 14:17Speaker 1: about a hundred thousand people in the city of Flint
- 14:22Speaker 1: that that are struggling with drinkable water. So I encouraged
- 14:28Speaker 1: our brother to turn his watch into water. And that's
- 14:33Speaker 1: what I have tagged watched into water. And a few
- 14:37Speaker 1: days after that, the mayor of Flint got in touch
- 14:41Speaker 1: with me to say thank you. Because it feels like
- 14:46Speaker 1: every single day we're distracted by certain issues. We're distracted
- 14:51Speaker 1: by the fact that Puerto Rico still isn't being properly addressed.
- 14:54Speaker 1: We're distracted by the fact that Flint, Michigan, still isn't
- 14:57Speaker 1: properly being addressed. And it's literally because every single day
- 15:03Speaker 1: we're bombard bombarded with another news story about a specific
- 15:10Speaker 1: administration not doing uh the job that they should be
- 15:16Speaker 1: doing as it pertains to the people that it's supposed
- 15:19Speaker 1: to be serving. So it's very difficult to stay on topic.
- 15:22Speaker 1: So she said, I literally wanted to call you myself
- 15:27Speaker 1: just to say thank you. We were on the phone
- 15:30Speaker 1: for an hour and a half. And because I am
- 15:32Speaker 1: a speaker, because I am a restoration agent, because that
- 15:37Speaker 1: is my purpose work I offered my services. She said,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I would love to have you come here. I want
- 15:42Speaker 1: to thank you for coming on my show. Man, Hey,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you did you? You ended this show letting the world
- 15:47Speaker 1: know who you are. And I appreciate that because that's
- 15:49Speaker 1: all I wanted to people understand, is that when you called,
- 15:51Speaker 1: when it's when there's a call for service. Mr Whitfield answers,
- 15:57Speaker 1: and if you want to checking out on Wednesdays on
- 15:59Speaker 1: Queen Sugar. Back to man and I love what you do.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I love your family. You know that. Uh keep winning
- 16:05Speaker 1: is Risan McDonald will be right back with more from
- 16:08Speaker 1: Marshan McDonald and moneymaking conversations. Don't touch that down. When
- 16:12Speaker 1: I was an FBI agent, I was aware of home
- 16:14Speaker 1: title fraud. There was little we could do to stop it.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Now there's home title lock. This online bank was for
- 16:20Speaker 1: closing on us. They even had documents that I signed
- 16:23Speaker 1: for a home equity loan. Only I didn't want a nightmare.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I didn't have home title lock then, but you bet
- 16:29Speaker 1: I haven't. Now your home's title is online where international
- 16:33Speaker 1: thieves can find it. They'll forge your title, take out
- 16:36Speaker 1: loans using your equity, or sell your home outright. Identity
- 16:40Speaker 1: theft programs and insurance don't protect you for just pennies
- 16:44Speaker 1: a day. Home title predicts my most valuable asset, my home.
- 16:48Speaker 1: As a police officer, I've seen what home title fraud
- 16:51Speaker 1: does to victims. So I registered for home Title Lock
- 16:54Speaker 1: and when I did, I discovered some thief had already
- 16:57Speaker 1: taken me off my home's title. Thank god I've found
- 17:00Speaker 1: out in time. Register now for a free analysis and
- 17:03Speaker 1: discover if your home's title has been compromised. That's a

- 18:48Speaker 1: Dream Flights is a private jet service that utilizes a
- 18:51Speaker 1: network of four thousand pre qualified aircraft adhering to safety
- 18:55Speaker 1: standards higher than those of the f a A Requirements
- 18:59Speaker 1: and chart. The aircraft is out the thirty thousand airports worldwide.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversations, Anthony Thurston. Good morning.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Are you doing Anthony, I'm blass, Thanks for asking, good man.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Happy to have you on my show, Mighty Making Conversations.
- 19:15Speaker 1: You know, So tell me, Anthony, where are you based
- 19:18Speaker 1: out of We're based out of Houston, Texas, my hometown.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Come on, and I've never used your service? Come on now,
- 19:25Speaker 1: we got to change that. Yeah, we have to do
- 19:28Speaker 1: something about that, because look, look, before we get started
- 19:30Speaker 1: explaining everybody what exactly your company does, well, we're over spoke.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Aviation Company again, as she stayed in the opening. We
- 19:39Speaker 1: charter aircraft out of thirty thousand airports worldwide using a
- 19:43Speaker 1: network of four thousand airport aircraft. Excuse me that here
- 19:46Speaker 1: the safety inquirements as to expandard. We offer ground transportation
- 19:51Speaker 1: in seventy countries as well as executive protection upon the quest.
- 19:56Speaker 1: There are two sides of the business who want us
- 19:58Speaker 1: on demand charter any others plus card where you buy
- 20:02Speaker 1: uh bull hours of flight time, traffication intuit included. Now, okay,
- 20:08Speaker 1: there's a couple of things you do out there. Now,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you had four thousands pre qualified aircraft. How are your
- 20:14Speaker 1: aircraft qualified? What? What's what's the what's what are the
- 20:17Speaker 1: standards because you said they're higher than the f A. Yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 1: they are wild and approved, so they have different res
- 20:25Speaker 1: regulations if you will, and certifications that they found them
- 20:28Speaker 1: they are safe aircraft. To put that in context, they're
- 20:31Speaker 1: about well about twenty tho aircraft out there available for
- 20:34Speaker 1: charter are out there period. There's probably about fourteen thousand
- 20:39Speaker 1: and twelve thousand of those that are available to charter
- 20:41Speaker 1: to the public and the four thousand that we use
- 20:43Speaker 1: or even more exclusive. And they're the same aircraft that
- 20:46Speaker 1: the big box operators use such as net ten Buch Tests, etcetera,
- 20:50Speaker 1: that they use a supplemental lift. Now is your business
- 20:54Speaker 1: for the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Not enough
- 20:59Speaker 1: to shipway, it's more of it's kind of a revolution
- 21:05Speaker 1: if you will star to innovation program that we have
- 21:08Speaker 1: our initiative. You know, we believing in donating ten percent
- 21:12Speaker 1: of on that profit back into charities, foundations and community
- 21:16Speaker 1: programs of the purchaser's choice. So it truly is a
- 21:19Speaker 1: lifestyle or looking to the life life minded individenens that
- 21:22Speaker 1: are looking to make a difference. Now, the thing I
- 21:26Speaker 1: liked about I enjoy about private air travel is that security.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Just walk right on that planet to do the path down?
- 21:34Speaker 1: Do have to get get the airport two hours before?
- 21:37Speaker 1: And when you get that two hours before, you still
- 21:39Speaker 1: frustrated that line that's standing in front of you. Those
- 21:42Speaker 1: are some of the what are some of the perks
- 21:44Speaker 1: Because I want to get people to understand the basics
- 21:46Speaker 1: because I got you for two breaks. I want to
- 21:48Speaker 1: take my time. I really want to we really expose
- 21:50Speaker 1: people to your business and the different lanes of opportunity
- 21:53Speaker 1: because when people that's why I opened up and say
- 21:55Speaker 1: that line about lifestyle and rich your famous, because I
- 21:57Speaker 1: know it's really not about that nowadays, you know, it's
- 22:00Speaker 1: really the pricing is really coming down to just everyday
- 22:04Speaker 1: travel depends on how you want to travel. So when
- 22:07Speaker 1: I when I when I look at when I look
- 22:09Speaker 1: at a business like yours and watching it grow, how
- 22:12Speaker 1: long have you been in business? Been in business for
- 22:15Speaker 1: nineteen years. We started as Dream Flights Luxury Travel. We
- 22:19Speaker 1: were a jet helicopter company with basically so perfectly just
- 22:23Speaker 1: getting paid but at a but guide moment, if you will,
- 22:27Speaker 1: and he changed the direction and transforming the company into
- 22:30Speaker 1: a private aviation company. What's social innovation at its core?
- 22:36Speaker 1: So with that being said, what is what is? What
- 22:39Speaker 1: are you selling to your customers? What are you saying? Uh,
- 22:42Speaker 1: you know because some people are in private Ada are
- 22:45Speaker 1: taking advantage of corporate trip there. You know they were
- 22:48Speaker 1: because you have WiFi on these planes nowadays, a lot
- 22:51Speaker 1: of times you can put four or five lawyers or
- 22:53Speaker 1: four or five executives on the plane. They can do
- 22:55Speaker 1: a business meeting all the way till they touched down,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and it's totally private because unlike when you commercial, when
- 23:00Speaker 1: you're talking to everybody can hear your conversation. So what
- 23:03Speaker 1: do you see the growing trend in your business right now? Well,
- 23:08Speaker 1: our value proposition. Of course, you're saving time and time
- 23:13Speaker 1: and saving money. You know a lot of most people say,
- 23:15Speaker 1: how you know how important their time is, but I
- 23:18Speaker 1: don't think we are as a whole really realize how
- 23:21Speaker 1: important that is. Let's save Let's say you have a
- 23:24Speaker 1: whatever you're your revenue goal is for the year, you know,
- 23:28Speaker 1: and if you want, if you divide that by two
- 23:30Speaker 1: thousand and eight, that'll give you your hourly rate. So
- 23:34Speaker 1: to speak of the value of your time. You know,
- 23:36Speaker 1: most people don't think in that context and do that
- 23:39Speaker 1: cost benup in analysis if you will. So, yes, you
- 23:43Speaker 1: you are truly saving time and you're being more efficient
- 23:46Speaker 1: and uh and therefore more productive. So what I'm talking
- 23:50Speaker 1: I'm on the phone. He's on the phone. He's a
- 23:52Speaker 1: principal chairman, the CEO of dream Flights International. I'm ru
- 23:55Speaker 1: Sean McDonald. I want to use your services. How does
- 23:58Speaker 1: that happen in the private actraft? In the private actor,
- 24:02Speaker 1: we're gonna because you have different lengths, Because I want
- 24:04Speaker 1: to get to the security, which I think is really interesting,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and I want to get to the show for the
- 24:08Speaker 1: private cost service. Let's talk about the private aircraft aircraft traffic. Okay,
- 24:14Speaker 1: So on the on demand where you can either call
- 24:17Speaker 1: into our toll free line or go through our website
- 24:19Speaker 1: portfolio porthole, excuse me, And and that's where you just
- 24:24Speaker 1: get the air side of it. And then all of
- 24:26Speaker 1: your ground transportation, your premium catoring and whatnot is all
- 24:29Speaker 1: ale cart now with our plus cards, our check card
- 24:32Speaker 1: if you will, that's where you're buying bull hours of
- 24:35Speaker 1: flight time, bulk hours and ground transportation. All your taxes
- 24:39Speaker 1: and fees and still search arges are included premium catering
- 24:42Speaker 1: and ground transportation. So it's kind of like when you
- 24:44Speaker 1: go to cost go only buying boat and you're saving
- 24:46Speaker 1: money situation through our card. Now, what about catering? Is
- 24:53Speaker 1: catering included to absolutely promium cator and not just get
- 24:57Speaker 1: regular cator Most most of the competitors says the offer
- 25:01Speaker 1: catering and that's just the trips and shoulders and nuts
- 25:04Speaker 1: and candy that's on the plane. Catering is the real deal.
- 25:08Speaker 1: So on our last trip that we had the sall
- 25:11Speaker 1: grass on that so you know, come come now see
- 25:17Speaker 1: that everybody that's all guys, not all of the country.
- 25:19Speaker 1: That's that's a steakhouse. Because it explained to my listeners.
- 25:21Speaker 1: You know, he's from Houston, so he knows, I know,
- 25:23Speaker 1: South Grass. South Grass is like it's a steak company's
- 25:28Speaker 1: you know, it's like a middle ground States really good.
- 25:30Speaker 1: But the roles are fantastic. And so if you cad
- 25:34Speaker 1: and salt Grass on these planes, I'm about to look
- 25:36Speaker 1: into you a little bit closer, my f because that show.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Don't get that old delta, that's that's really cool. So
- 25:45Speaker 1: so so basically everybody knows the expenses on that format,
- 25:50Speaker 1: and so you can go there and you can pick
- 25:51Speaker 1: different type of planes that what is your most popular
- 25:54Speaker 1: plane that gets uh get used? I get, I guess
- 25:57Speaker 1: say rented, I guess service your in your life? Two
- 26:01Speaker 1: detailed to ask and no, no, that's a great question.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But actually we're not an aircraft specific company. Where are
- 26:07Speaker 1: a class specific company? I mean not by saying that.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Let's say, if you if you want to fly on
- 26:13Speaker 1: a Falcon you know, I mean Superman class aircraft, you're
- 26:19Speaker 1: in Houston with our competitors, they're gonna find one that's
- 26:22Speaker 1: in Houston. If there's not one to safe the nearest
- 26:24Speaker 1: ones in Dallas, you have to reposition that aircraft to you,
- 26:27Speaker 1: and you're gonna have to pay for the reposition costs.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Where with us being a class specific aircraft aircraft company,
- 26:33Speaker 1: excuse me, then will find another superman it's in the area,
- 26:37Speaker 1: save you the repositioning costs, and past that saving on
- 26:40Speaker 1: to you. That's where our price points or even lower,
- 26:42Speaker 1: So we can offer a greater value at the lower
- 26:45Speaker 1: pros point because of just that one fact. That's true
- 26:48Speaker 1: because a lot of I gotta tell everybody, but I
- 26:50Speaker 1: want to I want to bring you on my show
- 26:52Speaker 1: because a lot of people they start talking about private
- 26:55Speaker 1: that they started talking about, you know, custom suits, they
- 26:58Speaker 1: think that's out of that price line. They start talking
- 27:00Speaker 1: about things, you know, private cost so they think that's
- 27:02Speaker 1: how their price line. Now now you know aircraft, you
- 27:06Speaker 1: know private aircraft, they really think that's how their price line.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And I just want to let people know, if you
- 27:10Speaker 1: do your research, it really isn't like you said, time
- 27:13Speaker 1: is money. And if you if you're trying to get someplace,
- 27:16Speaker 1: and you can do a family outing and a group
- 27:19Speaker 1: of friends y'all can just pull the money together and
- 27:22Speaker 1: uh and you can rent out this and then to
- 27:24Speaker 1: come get you to drop you off and it will
- 27:26Speaker 1: pick you up and can be a round trip and
- 27:28Speaker 1: it can be a really fun experience. If that's if
- 27:30Speaker 1: you know, if that's if you want to do a
- 27:32Speaker 1: bucket list a bucket list trip type thing. So I
- 27:35Speaker 1: just want to let everybody know, Anthony, that you know,
- 27:38Speaker 1: stop thinking that you can't afford something. Just just do
- 27:41Speaker 1: your research and come to a company like yours, because
- 27:44Speaker 1: you guys are willing to work with people to educate
- 27:46Speaker 1: them so they can use your services. Correct Again, that's
- 27:49Speaker 1: kind of hard to explain over over the phone and
- 27:52Speaker 1: on the radio, but will be going happy to send
- 27:54Speaker 1: you some information. You have another thing, well, first of all,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna put you in my newsletter. I gotta put
- 27:59Speaker 1: you in my news On the phone with principal chairman
- 28:01Speaker 1: and CEO of Dream Flights inter Nahville, I want to

- 31:06Speaker 1: they that was a groundbreaker. His television work includes the

- 31:54Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversation Omar Epps, long brother,
- 32:00Speaker 1: and let's say about you a lot say about you.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I appreciate it. I appreciate it really well. I'm gonna
- 32:07Speaker 1: tell you some Let's get to this book, man. I
- 32:09Speaker 1: want to read a quote from this book. I read
- 32:11Speaker 1: the book, and uh, I always I always find a
- 32:14Speaker 1: certain value system when I read about people, right, stories,
- 32:17Speaker 1: especially stories. Your book is as a personal journey about
- 32:22Speaker 1: growing up without a father, and unfortunately that's very um
- 32:27Speaker 1: that's not nothing unusual, especially in the African American community.
- 32:30Speaker 1: And why was it important to tell your story to
- 32:33Speaker 1: us well for that exact reason what you just said
- 32:37Speaker 1: is that we've we've normalized that, um, you know, the
- 32:40Speaker 1: fatherless household in our community, and we have to we
- 32:45Speaker 1: have to evolve, We have to. I want to to
- 32:48Speaker 1: write them a book about my story, share my story
- 32:51Speaker 1: that hopefully it could be used as a tool of inspiration,
- 32:54Speaker 1: so that we changed the narrative on that so that
- 32:56Speaker 1: these young brothers coming up, you know, look at that
- 32:59Speaker 1: like it's not cool, you know, like we're in the
- 33:02Speaker 1: bober shop, we all friends, and one of us know,
- 33:05Speaker 1: you know, not handling the responsibilities as a father. Then
- 33:09Speaker 1: you lane now you know, and you get back on track.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Though you always have the power of choice at your
- 33:14Speaker 1: disposal to to get back on track. So that's really
- 33:17Speaker 1: where it came from. Man, just trying to help shift
- 33:19Speaker 1: that narrative. And it's important because the song that you
- 33:23Speaker 1: mentioned by the incredible Tupox Brender's Got a Baby. I
- 33:28Speaker 1: remember that book movie That song came out back in
- 33:30Speaker 1: ninety two two time frame. It was such a powerful song,
- 33:36Speaker 1: uh and it still resonates today. And you mentioned that,
- 33:40Speaker 1: and I want to allow you to speak on what
- 33:43Speaker 1: you felt though was his goal was when he uh
- 33:46Speaker 1: produced a song and put it out and then you
- 33:49Speaker 1: thought that nobody listened because you brought that up in
- 33:51Speaker 1: your book, and because the book the song was an
- 33:54Speaker 1: incredible song that we Brenda's Got a Baby by two
- 33:56Speaker 1: Poor Corps. It's a it's a song about a young lady. Oh,
- 34:00Speaker 1: of course gets pregnant too early, and uh what happens
- 34:04Speaker 1: all too often, not only just in the African Americans,
- 34:06Speaker 1: just in some communities in general. But in this case,
- 34:08Speaker 1: we're talking about the African American community. And you mentioned
- 34:11Speaker 1: that in the book. So explain to us why did
- 34:14Speaker 1: you mentioned it in the book. Well, because you know,
- 34:17Speaker 1: for that particular song, I was I was bad from
- 34:19Speaker 1: this inception. Um. We were on the set of Juice
- 34:23Speaker 1: one day and one morning in two pocket read the
- 34:28Speaker 1: you know, the daily paper, and it was I'm from
- 34:31Speaker 1: New York. So we were in New York and from
- 34:33Speaker 1: and a woman had thrown a baby in the trash.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And he was just so so affected by that. And
- 34:40Speaker 1: at the time, I'm like, man, read about stuff like
- 34:42Speaker 1: that all the time out here, and he was just
- 34:44Speaker 1: so affected by that. And by lunchtime he said, oh,
- 34:47Speaker 1: coming to trailer. So I went in to trailer and
- 34:49Speaker 1: he starts, you know, wrapping these verses to me, and
- 34:52Speaker 1: I'm listening. I'm like, man, that's you know, that's deep,
- 34:54Speaker 1: but I'm not knowing what it is. And then two
- 34:57Speaker 1: months later, you know, his I heard Brenda's Got a
- 35:01Speaker 1: Baby for the first thing. As soon as I heard
- 35:02Speaker 1: the song, I said, oh, that's the that's the joint.
- 35:05Speaker 1: So I went back to that exact moment, and I
- 35:08Speaker 1: just thought it was so profound to see that his
- 35:11Speaker 1: his uh, his his artistic process in that way musically,
- 35:15Speaker 1: like wow, he really took a real life event and
- 35:18Speaker 1: shifted it into a greater story. And he was really
- 35:22Speaker 1: trying to spark spark mind, you know. And so that's
- 35:25Speaker 1: why that that, that's why I mentioned that in the book,
- 35:27Speaker 1: because I was a profound moment for me, well, to
- 35:30Speaker 1: say the least. Now, on the phone with Omar Epps
- 35:33Speaker 1: his book from Fatherless to Fatherhood. There in the back
- 35:36Speaker 1: of the book, it was a verse that I want
- 35:38Speaker 1: to say that I felt was really important to say
- 35:41Speaker 1: doing this interview, and he reached like this, this is
- 35:43Speaker 1: from your book, Omar, to all those fathers who have
- 35:47Speaker 1: fallen off, you don't have to you don't have the
- 35:49Speaker 1: luxury of catching amnesia just because your relationship with the
- 35:52Speaker 1: mother of your child didn't work. That woman is the
- 35:56Speaker 1: mother of your child, period. Why would you even try
- 35:59Speaker 1: to turn a kid against her. Plus, when it's all
- 36:02Speaker 1: said and done, neither of you wins, only your child
- 36:05Speaker 1: will lose. Wow. You know, yeah, I mean that's real, man.
- 36:12Speaker 1: You know, I try to I try to, uh speak
- 36:16Speaker 1: on different scenarios, right, Like, you know, a lot of
- 36:18Speaker 1: things happen. Sometimes things don't happen in a traditional way. Uh.
- 36:23Speaker 1: You know, you can have a child out of wedline.
- 36:25Speaker 1: You could be married, the relationship dissolved. You might just
- 36:27Speaker 1: be bortrained girl, whatever the scenario is. At the end
- 36:30Speaker 1: of the day, you know, once you once to people
- 36:33Speaker 1: make a commitment to have a child, um, and they
- 36:37Speaker 1: have to put that child. They're making a lifelong commitment
- 36:39Speaker 1: to each other, regardless of what happens, you know, in
- 36:43Speaker 1: their love relationship, you know, in terms of intimacy, regardless
- 36:47Speaker 1: that dissolves, they still have a lifelong commitment you know,
- 36:50Speaker 1: to this child and to each other. So you know,
- 36:53Speaker 1: it's just trying to drop jews for the young brothers
- 36:57Speaker 1: to think about that before they make certain moves and
- 36:59Speaker 1: when they may those moons. To keep that in mind,
- 37:01Speaker 1: because I get it. It's hard, you know. And I
- 37:03Speaker 1: even try to speak to um women in the book
- 37:07Speaker 1: in in some the same ways. You know, there's a
- 37:09Speaker 1: lot of emotional things can happen. There's a lot of
- 37:12Speaker 1: you know, this book is full of quote. I'm on
- 37:14Speaker 1: the phone with all my apps in this book from
- 37:16Speaker 1: Fatherless to Fatherhood. You can get that Bonds and Noble,
- 37:18Speaker 1: Amazon dot com, you know, and you should get this book.
- 37:22Speaker 1: And uh, it's a. It's a because the problem I
- 37:24Speaker 1: always have with with books because you know, women buy books.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Women will buy books. Men, on the other hand, who
- 37:31Speaker 1: need to be reading this book. I don't think I
- 37:34Speaker 1: need to read that, and I would let's change that
- 37:36Speaker 1: because it's something you should read because of the fact
- 37:38Speaker 1: that it's a good it's good read for me. And
- 37:40Speaker 1: I feel I'm a good father. But you know, I'm
- 37:42Speaker 1: like you. I'm in the business, so I know what
- 37:44Speaker 1: you're talking about. Sometimes I was living in New York.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Sometimes I raised my daughter over the phone. I got
- 37:49Speaker 1: some I got some baby talk on my leave voice
- 37:52Speaker 1: messages that I'm gonna give it to her one day.
- 37:55Speaker 1: And you're gonna probably make her cry when she was
- 37:57Speaker 1: just talking and leave messages on my She's never just know.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I got my thirty of those when you hate daddy,
- 38:02Speaker 1: my daddy, you know, all through it's like one through
- 38:06Speaker 1: one through five of her just leaving messages on my phone.
- 38:09Speaker 1: I was able to capture them and put them on CD.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna give them to him one day because I
- 38:13Speaker 1: know what you're saying is that you know, it's important
- 38:16Speaker 1: to try to be your father. More important, it's important
- 38:19Speaker 1: to try to be a father who's responsible to the
- 38:21Speaker 1: to the activity of giving your child the advice, the
- 38:25Speaker 1: guidance because there's so many things special with social media.
- 38:28Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about, Alma. You know you
- 38:31Speaker 1: you're you're, you're, you're, you're superstar dude. You you know,
- 38:33Speaker 1: you're celebrit recognizable talent. You on television all the time,
- 38:36Speaker 1: your movies all the time, and so your children are
- 38:38Speaker 1: impacted by that, and so that means that you have
- 38:41Speaker 1: the guide them. Like you said, like you said, your
- 38:43Speaker 1: older daughter knew knew you want the doctor on the house.
- 38:47Speaker 1: You're the kid they just over They're just looking at
- 38:49Speaker 1: Danny TV, Daddy l TV, you know, so so it
- 38:52Speaker 1: really when you start breaking down your life, you have
- 38:55Speaker 1: to understand that the value of the way you're a
- 38:57Speaker 1: truck driver, work for ups, all your cook all of
- 39:02Speaker 1: it comes back to being a father who has time
- 39:04Speaker 1: for their child, right then father who makes time. And
- 39:08Speaker 1: I think one of the you know, I know, for me, uh,
- 39:11Speaker 1: the biggest uh, one of the biggest things my mother
- 39:15Speaker 1: instilled to me from a young age was a sense
- 39:17Speaker 1: of self worth. And I think that you know, as parents,
- 39:21Speaker 1: that's one of the biggest things we can instill in
- 39:23Speaker 1: our children is that they are worthy um. Because when
- 39:27Speaker 1: when the child grows up with that sense um, a
- 39:30Speaker 1: lot of the peer pressures and the environmental things, they're
- 39:35Speaker 1: less likely to partake in those things because they they
- 39:39Speaker 1: feel worth, They feel worthy, they feel love, that they
- 39:43Speaker 1: belong to a a familiar tribe that you know, that
- 39:49Speaker 1: they have a work end um. A lot of these
- 39:52Speaker 1: kids that go wayward, and it's a lot of different reasons,
- 39:54Speaker 1: you know, but I'm just trying to go to the
- 39:56Speaker 1: root of it. A lot of these kids don't feel valued. No,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I feel worthy. They feel like, well, you know, it
- 40:03Speaker 1: don't matter if I ain't here tomorrow because don't nobody care,
- 40:06Speaker 1: you know, and and and so you know again going
- 40:10Speaker 1: back to that active piece. You know, that's it's that's
- 40:13Speaker 1: the most important thing. It's deep, man, it's really deep.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I want to do one more quote from your book
- 40:18Speaker 1: far before we end this conversation about your book, From
- 40:21Speaker 1: Fatherless to Fatherhood, written by all my help, the comic
- 40:25Speaker 1: comedic genius Chris Rock made a profound statement about fatherhood
- 40:29Speaker 1: doing one of his performances. He said, whenever our father
- 40:32Speaker 1: boast about taking care of his kids, people response should be,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you're supposed to take care of your kids, right right.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I'll tell you, I'll tell you, Omar. I've been reading
- 40:43Speaker 1: this book for I'm telling you, man, you're messing women. Man,
- 40:46Speaker 1: you're messing women allmar. But if you look at that,
- 40:51Speaker 1: you know it's it's just the truth. But we have
- 40:54Speaker 1: gone to so many generations of having fatherless households that
- 40:58Speaker 1: it's normalized. So now of it you have, you know,
- 41:01Speaker 1: people who are stepping up to the their their fatherly duties.
- 41:06Speaker 1: You know, they want that extra pat on the back.
- 41:08Speaker 1: And let me and let me just say this too.
- 41:10Speaker 1: You know, within the African American community, we have made
- 41:14Speaker 1: incredible strides to the issues of family and things of
- 41:17Speaker 1: that nature. But and a lot of times, you know,
- 41:19Speaker 1: you hear people want to throw up certain statistics, and
- 41:22Speaker 1: it's that any other statistics are relative to whoever you're
- 41:24Speaker 1: poland one. But two, you know I'm in them treats,
- 41:28Speaker 1: and and that that cycle of fatherlessness is still an
- 41:32Speaker 1: epidemic in our community. So we just gotta be real
- 41:34Speaker 1: about what's real. And um so that you know, even
- 41:37Speaker 1: though I say that in the book, you know, using
- 41:40Speaker 1: that that that Chris Rock joke, which I thought was
- 41:42Speaker 1: just great, you know, I understand at the same time
- 41:46Speaker 1: why you know a man would want that credit so
- 41:50Speaker 1: many generations. And so it's like, yeah, they're trying to
- 41:56Speaker 1: and they bring in so absolute those brothers as well,
- 41:58Speaker 1: because you're breaking the cycle. With end of the day,
- 42:00Speaker 1: it's about breaking the cycles. He's a writer, he's a producer, entrepreneur,
- 42:07Speaker 1: he's been married to his wife over a decade and
- 42:10Speaker 1: he's dedicated father to his three children. Omar, thank you
- 42:13Speaker 1: for calling Money Making Conversations. Thank you, brother, it was
- 42:17Speaker 1: a great sorting. Keep winning. We'll be right back with

- 45:02Speaker 1: next one she's on the phone right now. My next
- 45:05Speaker 1: is the award winning creator of the Landmark Showtime Network
- 45:09Speaker 1: hit Soul Food, the series uh Television's first long running
- 45:13Speaker 1: drama featuring African Americans. Two of the most recent credits
- 45:17Speaker 1: conclude co executive producer of one of my favorite TV
- 45:20Speaker 1: shows on Netflix, Marvels The Punisher. That's a violent show.
- 45:25Speaker 1: That's a violent show. She knows you know, you know,
- 45:28Speaker 1: go creat an executive producer of the Quad that was
- 45:30Speaker 1: on b ET. She came into town and we we
- 45:33Speaker 1: went out and hung out. Get to hear a speech
- 45:35Speaker 1: speak over the emery in regards to the quad. Uh,
- 45:38Speaker 1: she's currently consulting producer on Empire that's on Fox and
- 45:42Speaker 1: as an overall development deal. What means I can know
- 45:45Speaker 1: she can take the out, she can please talking to
- 45:50Speaker 1: mother making conversation Felicia D. Henderson, you are truly a fool,
- 45:56Speaker 1: my brother. Well, well, first of all, first of all,
- 46:00Speaker 1: you know, it's you know, to be this point place
- 46:02Speaker 1: in my life to be interviewing a family member that
- 46:05Speaker 1: is that has been so important to my life personally professionally. Um,
- 46:11Speaker 1: you know, we cried together, we laughed together, we shared
- 46:13Speaker 1: our success stories, and we've shared our frustrations in this
- 46:16Speaker 1: business over the years. Now it's the part that it
- 46:19Speaker 1: really got to meet when she started doing animation. Now
- 46:22Speaker 1: see see that that that wasn't the black folks world
- 46:24Speaker 1: right now they're doing animation. Now, how did you get
- 46:27Speaker 1: into animation? No? So okay, so this is what happened
- 46:32Speaker 1: in the comic books right right right? Yeah, But this
- 46:35Speaker 1: is the thing people don't know because who walks around
- 46:38Speaker 1: saying well, when I was a little girl, I was
- 46:39Speaker 1: a sickly little asthmatic who couldn't go outside. So that's
- 46:43Speaker 1: when I started reading comic books. So I loved comic
- 46:46Speaker 1: books my whole life. Like I was obsessed and still
- 46:49Speaker 1: is with Batman, Like Batman was everything because that was
- 46:52Speaker 1: he was my you know everything, and so truly just
- 46:56Speaker 1: starting to meet you know, you meet more people as
- 46:58Speaker 1: you do different kinds of shows. When I was UM
- 47:01Speaker 1: coming out of Gossip Girl and on Fringe. When UM,
- 47:05Speaker 1: I was first approached by d C Comics saying, hey,
- 47:08Speaker 1: we got this comic book that's about teens, but it's
- 47:11Speaker 1: still I FI and you just came off of a
- 47:13Speaker 1: teen show and now you're doing si Fy. How would
- 47:16Speaker 1: you like to write Team Titans? And for me, I
- 47:19Speaker 1: was like, that's an entry, you know I wanted, like
- 47:22Speaker 1: why not? You know, it's the thing I loved as
- 47:24Speaker 1: a kid. So I knew I couldn't do it full
- 47:26Speaker 1: times and it doesn't say it enough money, but I
- 47:28Speaker 1: knew that it would really know, I knew that it
- 47:31Speaker 1: would fulfill me creatively. So I loved it. I hope
- 47:34Speaker 1: to go back to it, you know, I really do.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I just got so busy, but I really hope to
- 47:39Speaker 1: go back to and even create my own comic books.
- 47:41Speaker 1: I'm looking for a comic book right now to adapt
- 47:44Speaker 1: into a TV show, you know, under my newsbox deal.
- 47:48Speaker 1: That's one of my goals. And especially coming out as
- 47:50Speaker 1: a punisher, I'm like, yep, I love this. You know.
- 47:53Speaker 1: It's it's one that really adapted well all moments. You know,
- 47:59Speaker 1: you know Si Girl, when I came off with Gossip
- 48:01Speaker 1: Girl and Teen Titans, teme, this is in movie theaters, okay,
- 48:06Speaker 1: time just in movie theaters, in movie theaters right now.
- 48:09Speaker 1: You know we did time. They weren't paying that enough
- 48:10Speaker 1: money because you know, because you can't checked that. I'm
- 48:14Speaker 1: just Rishan. Was just managed this, Steve Harve and that's
- 48:17Speaker 1: all I was doing. But you have that blowing up
- 48:20Speaker 1: and doing it well, might we at? You know. The
- 48:23Speaker 1: beauty of this, This is why I love about you
- 48:27Speaker 1: is that people always tell me Richard, you have reinvented
- 48:30Speaker 1: yourself so many times, and sometimes I just do it automatically,
- 48:35Speaker 1: and I don't like, I'm reinvented myself right now, hosting
- 48:39Speaker 1: just right, it's like it's time to it's time for
- 48:43Speaker 1: something new, and you can't be afraid of change. That's
- 48:45Speaker 1: what you and I know that people say what is
- 48:48Speaker 1: your secret. I'm like, you can't be afraid of change,
- 48:51Speaker 1: or you can be afraid, but you must act despite
- 48:54Speaker 1: your fear. She didn't you always have a feel, you know, like,
- 48:58Speaker 1: oh God, this is the time for a change, and
- 49:01Speaker 1: you'll just sit and wait past the moment that you
- 49:03Speaker 1: should have made a change. This is this is why
- 49:05Speaker 1: there was always laugh at me. There's alway laughing because
- 49:07Speaker 1: I would be in I'm writing, I can write, okay, right,
- 49:11Speaker 1: but but but but I always had something else going on. Yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 1: but you always have the side hustle. You all didn't
- 49:18Speaker 1: have to side. Yes, you know, I come back from
- 49:23Speaker 1: launch late. Yeah, like where you're doing, Oh oh, don't
- 49:28Speaker 1: make you better be happy? Sarah Penny Johnson isn't on
- 49:30Speaker 1: this call to talk about the time you came back
- 49:32Speaker 1: late from Launchester Parker's I was at meetings, y'all at
- 49:37Speaker 1: meetings to go create. Something else was that he was
- 49:39Speaker 1: at the bank and the bank got held up, and
- 49:41Speaker 1: so that's why he came, Oh my god over like
- 49:49Speaker 1: coming back to the park. And that started Monique at
- 49:51Speaker 1: the time and Dorian Wilson and and I was like
- 49:55Speaker 1: four hours late on four and moved deadline to this sariously,
- 50:00Speaker 1: where you bet? I said, in my mind, I can't
- 50:03Speaker 1: say I've been at me. And she gave me this
- 50:06Speaker 1: opportunity bank robbery. Bank. I was a banking bank god
- 50:12Speaker 1: robbed and uh, he said, she said, I said it
- 50:16Speaker 1: said bank I rob what's your where? I said in
- 50:18Speaker 1: Baby Hills. I went in there and the guy said,
- 50:21Speaker 1: everybody down, and we got that. You come back to
- 50:26Speaker 1: work calmly with the story. And that's a testament how
- 50:30Speaker 1: much Sarah loves you, because she went okay and immediately
- 50:33Speaker 1: called me like, let me tell you that the live
- 50:35Speaker 1: shot just told me. Even today she asked me about
- 50:43Speaker 1: that bank robbers toy Sean the bank robbers story, and
- 50:47Speaker 1: let's just explain Sarah fri Johnson creative, Moitia, creative, the Parkers,
- 50:52Speaker 1: an incredible writer, amazing family matters. That's what you met
- 50:56Speaker 1: Sarah on family matters. Correct. I met Sarah on family
- 50:59Speaker 1: matter as I met Sarah and Vi the Spirits, who
- 51:02Speaker 1: were they were writing partners at the time. But Sarah
- 51:05Speaker 1: mentored me my whole comedy career, and even when I
- 51:09Speaker 1: transitioned to drama. You know, um, she continued to mentor
- 51:13Speaker 1: me because she's the normal one and I'm the hothead.
- 51:16Speaker 1: So she's always been able to talk to me off
- 51:18Speaker 1: the ledgend when I got the opportunity, because she always
- 51:21Speaker 1: wanted to transition to drama. So when I did a
- 51:24Speaker 1: single Ladies for b Et, I, I called her and
- 51:27Speaker 1: it's like, hey, you're ready to do drama. And it's
- 51:29Speaker 1: such a pleasure, you know, when you can work with
- 51:32Speaker 1: your friends, Rashan as you know, there's no more joy
- 51:34Speaker 1: than working with your friends. And so we did that
- 51:37Speaker 1: together and then she did the Quad with me as well.
- 51:40Speaker 1: She's doing another show, another drama right now at the
- 51:45Speaker 1: T so she um, she's a drama writer now. But
- 51:48Speaker 1: without that woman, I don't know where I'll be because
- 51:51Speaker 1: she really taught me calm your ass down, mar Brock, Yes, yeah,
- 52:00Speaker 1: Kenya Burrows, come on now. Felicia Henderson, Okay, Felicia, don't
- 52:08Speaker 1: twist Rashean McDonald. You know what I'm saying that that
- 52:11Speaker 1: young lady has has really uh made an impact because
- 52:16Speaker 1: she she cares so much about everything. But the thing
- 52:19Speaker 1: about it, when I talked to Felicia, like, she don't
- 52:22Speaker 1: she's just slid right past j. J Abrams though, Yeah,
- 52:26Speaker 1: just slip right past, you know that moment working on Fox.
- 52:30Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, all the networks. So when
- 52:33Speaker 1: you when you look at your resume and your body
- 52:35Speaker 1: of work, you know, and like I said, the reason
- 52:38Speaker 1: I have you on the show because you are because
- 52:40Speaker 1: you know, people are so aware of social media has
- 52:42Speaker 1: made so many people wear and black people watch TV anyway,
- 52:46Speaker 1: So as your role of spokesperson changed because used to
- 52:50Speaker 1: just write your show and you executively created. But now
- 52:54Speaker 1: people know so much about you life. I just google
- 52:56Speaker 1: your name, picture of you pops up, you know. Inside. Yes,
- 53:01Speaker 1: it's different, isn't it? And you know, I just came back.
- 53:04Speaker 1: I did a panel at Comic Con and several interviews
- 53:07Speaker 1: down a Comic Con and San Diego, you know, for
- 53:09Speaker 1: The Punisher. But it's it's so interesting now everything is
- 53:13Speaker 1: so different. And every interview I did, and even as
- 53:16Speaker 1: I started the panel, they said, first, okay, let everyone
- 53:19Speaker 1: know your handles, Like that's where they start, Like, tell
- 53:22Speaker 1: everyone where they can find you on social media, which
- 53:25Speaker 1: side the way, and follow Felicia d mollow Felicia UM,
- 53:29Speaker 1: Instagram and Twitter. But as I'm trying to lyrash and
- 53:32Speaker 1: so I'm such a private person, and as you know,
- 53:35Speaker 1: I'm better one on one. I'm not a big party person.
- 53:38Speaker 1: I'd like to look at people, you know, one on
- 53:41Speaker 1: one and in your eyes, that's when I'm happy. Is
- 53:43Speaker 1: but it has changed and they're like, Okay, you have
- 53:46Speaker 1: to get out there, you gotta go. But I'm a writer.
- 53:48Speaker 1: My writing will speak for itself. They're like, no, everybody
- 53:51Speaker 1: knows what a showrunner is now. You can't just hide
- 53:54Speaker 1: behind the work. So it's like you've become more of
- 53:57Speaker 1: a public figure and people do know, like stuff a value.
- 54:01Speaker 1: You're like, where did you even know that? Well? You
- 54:03Speaker 1: know that interviews you did at it was it was
- 54:06Speaker 1: recorded and put up on YouTube. I'm like, really, because
- 54:09Speaker 1: I'm also a very frank person, and I'm used to
- 54:12Speaker 1: being very frank and being very honest, and and you
- 54:16Speaker 1: have a moment now where you're like, Okay, I have
- 54:18Speaker 1: to edit myself with you because I don't you know
- 54:21Speaker 1: know where this is going to air or where this
- 54:24Speaker 1: is gonna be seen. And that you also know is
- 54:27Speaker 1: that I'm also a professor at the University of Texas Austin,
- 54:32Speaker 1: so I'm also a longhorn now, and you know, so
- 54:35Speaker 1: I'm like I get there. This is only my second
- 54:38Speaker 1: year there. I get there and they're like, hey, so
- 54:39Speaker 1: you did this this. I'm like, whoa, we just met,
- 54:41Speaker 1: but you haven't just that because they got everybody in
- 54:45Speaker 1: the studio. They're just shaking their head now. They just
- 54:47Speaker 1: we just can't. They all just they don't. They don't
- 54:51Speaker 1: know what raised me in this business. Now. You know
- 54:53Speaker 1: when I'm sit down and not even know why. I
- 54:55Speaker 1: had to tell people I was at a bank robbery.
- 54:58Speaker 1: When I came back, they would not leave anything else.
- 55:02Speaker 1: The funny part about the banquet, You're just still trying
- 55:04Speaker 1: to justify that. I have to justify that because when
- 55:08Speaker 1: everybody looked at me, they looked at me, you could
- 55:10Speaker 1: see I was such a good story I'm a good
- 55:12Speaker 1: story teller anyway. And I told him and I said,
- 55:15Speaker 1: it's when the guy said, everybody down, I got damn.
- 55:18Speaker 1: I was down? Who hours? Four hours? I was down?
- 55:24Speaker 1: I was down. I said, I'm happy on me here
- 55:26Speaker 1: and I was rubbing my shirt like you know, like
- 55:28Speaker 1: you and I never had a Renkal shirt out your life.
- 55:35Speaker 1: You would ask for a high Listen, this has been
- 55:39Speaker 1: my best interview ever. Can you come back when Empire
