- 0:00Acts chapter one, the first account I composed Theophilus
- 0:04about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day when he
- 0:07was taken up to heaven, after he had by the Holy Spirit given
- 0:10orders to the apostles whom He had chosen.
- 0:13To these he also presented himself alive after his
- 0:16suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a
- 0:19period of 40 days, and Speaking of the things concerning the
- 0:22Kingdom of God. Gathering them together, He
- 0:24commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for what
- 0:28the Father had promised, which he said, you heard of from me.
- 0:32For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with
- 0:35the Holy Spirit not many days from now.
- 0:37So when they had come together, they were asking him, saying,
- 0:40Lord, is it at this time you're restoring the Kingdom to Israel?
- 0:43He said to them, It is not for you to know times or epochs
- 0:46which the Father has fixed by His own authority, but you will
- 0:49receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and
- 0:52you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea
- 0:55and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.
- 0:59And after He had said these things, he was lifted up while
- 1:02they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their
- 1:04sight. And as they were gazing intently
- 1:06into the sky while He was going, behold, 2 men in white clothing
- 1:09stood beside them. They also said, Men of Galilee,
- 1:13why do you stand looking into the sky?
- 1:15This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come
- 1:18in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.
- 1:21Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet,
- 1:24which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away.
- 1:28When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room
- 1:30where they were staying, that is, Peter and John, and James,
- 1:33and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James
- 1:37the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of
- 1:40James. These all with one mind were
- 1:42continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women
- 1:46and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
- 1:49At this time Peter stood up in the midst of the brethren.
- 1:51A gathering of about 120 persons was there together, and said,
- 1:56Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy
- 1:58Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who
- 2:02became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
- 2:05For he was counted among us and received his share in this
- 2:07ministry. Now this man acquired a field
- 2:10with the price of his wickedness, and falling
- 2:12headlong, he burst open in the middle, and all his intestines
- 2:15gushed out. And it became known to all who
- 2:17were living in Jerusalem, so that in their own language that
- 2:20field was called Hakeldama, that is, field of blood, for it is
- 2:24written in the book of Psalms. Let his homestead be made
- 2:27desolate, and let no one dwell in it, and let another man take
- 2:31his office. Therefore it is necessary that
- 2:34of the men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord
- 2:36Jesus went in and out among us, beginning with the baptism of
- 2:39John, until the day that He was taken up from US.
- 2:42One of these must become a witness with us of His
- 2:45resurrection. So they put forward two men,
- 2:47Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justice, and
- 2:51Matthias. And they prayed and said, you,
- 2:53Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which one of these two
- 2:56you have chosen to occupy this ministry and apostleship, from
- 3:00which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.
- 3:03And they drew lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias, and he
- 3:06was added to the 11 apostles.
