- 1:29Speaker 1: the name I gotta get right, because like I always
- 1:31Speaker 1: get mad when people say Russian Rushan? Is this so
- 1:35Speaker 1: hard to say? So? The next yes, you know, we
- 1:37Speaker 1: we've been going back and forth, you know, all fair,
- 1:39Speaker 1: making sure I got her addiction, the diction right on her.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So she I'm ready. If she's ready, I've ready. My
- 1:45Speaker 1: next has survived the tough streets of self Sacramento. I
- 1:48Speaker 1: don't know, I come fear for Texas and we're gonna
- 1:50Speaker 1: compare tough. Okay, turned to the creative idea, to multimillion
- 1:54Speaker 1: dollar hair company and now I don't have any hair,
- 1:56Speaker 1: so she got me on there Curl name that company
- 1:59Speaker 1: just Curl, their family gonna getic hair care products, target
- 2:02Speaker 1: for women embracing their natural textures. She's starting new show
- 2:06Speaker 1: on own as Own that's the open network called Mine
- 2:09Speaker 1: Your Business with Shaw. Hello, How you doing? I just
- 2:16Speaker 1: paused to see if I got it right? Okay, I
- 2:17Speaker 1: got it right? Good on Saturday and Eastern Standard time.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Please work on the money. Main conversation Mohisha dealing. How
- 2:26Speaker 1: you doing? I'm doing well, Thank you, thank you. I
- 2:31Speaker 1: paused to see if you're gonna because I've seen your
- 2:33Speaker 1: show now, because see I want to go. I wanna
- 2:34Speaker 1: be on your good side. I want to because I've
- 2:39Speaker 1: seen the bad side. Well. The thing about it is
- 2:47Speaker 1: that so when I said your name, it was like
- 2:49Speaker 1: a affirmation, you know, is that right? Is the right? Okay? Okay? Cool?
- 2:54Speaker 1: But I got it right. I've gotten through the first
- 2:56Speaker 1: test of our relationship. Because before we move forward into
- 3:00Speaker 1: the TV show that's start, there's air and on Own
- 3:03Speaker 1: at ten p m. On Saturday night. Does it follow
- 3:07Speaker 1: I am another name I can't say correctly, Miss Vans's show.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And so so when you look at that show because
- 3:16Speaker 1: her show is kind of like a tough love show
- 3:18Speaker 1: as well. There's the air on own on Saturday the
- 3:20Speaker 1: night correct that is correct and so but hers is
- 3:24Speaker 1: tough low within the family dynamic. Yours is tough love.
- 3:30Speaker 1: In the business world, Yes, mine is all about helping
- 3:35Speaker 1: This show mind your Business with Mihi Shan owned this
- 3:38Speaker 1: show that's all about helping black female based business owners excel. Um.
- 3:43Speaker 1: There's an increase in the number of black female based businesses.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Were on the rise absolutely three that there's an increase
- 3:51Speaker 1: of three of us, but only four percent have made
- 3:55Speaker 1: it to the mean dollar mark. Now there's a huge
- 3:58Speaker 1: gap there. We have a large growth, but only four
- 4:01Speaker 1: percent of less make it to the million dollar mark.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So the goal of the show's helped to bridge the gap.
- 4:07Speaker 1: We're gonna help eight individual business owners, eight individual brands,
- 4:10Speaker 1: eight individual companies should excel and succeed. But throughout the
- 4:15Speaker 1: show in the season, we're also given the tools to
- 4:18Speaker 1: the audience the viewers for watching it to also take
- 4:21Speaker 1: back home to implement in their life. Now that now,
- 4:26Speaker 1: well show this I like a lot that some people
- 4:29Speaker 1: have compared your show to her show. You remind me
- 4:31Speaker 1: a lot of a very popular show that I like
- 4:33Speaker 1: called The Profit. And because you yes, yes, okay, cool,
- 4:39Speaker 1: I gotta stay on the good. I thought she's about
- 4:41Speaker 1: to come ahead of you. I'm changing. You gotta watch
- 4:44Speaker 1: the show now. You can Keepshaw's Pauls and all the time.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Because we live on radio and you might go to
- 4:48Speaker 1: the left on me. I go, I can't dump button up,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but something save my career. But the thing about like
- 4:55Speaker 1: the prophet, he goes in there and he has to
- 4:56Speaker 1: do tough love too. And because some people should be
- 5:00Speaker 1: in business, but they're getting business. And some people have
- 5:03Speaker 1: a business and guess what, it's just barely getting by
- 5:07Speaker 1: and it should be way more profitable. And so when
- 5:10Speaker 1: I was when I when I did my research and
- 5:12Speaker 1: started examining what this show was all about. Because you
- 5:15Speaker 1: go into the you know, it's very it's a very
- 5:17Speaker 1: personal experience that you're having with these owners of these businesses.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Are people who have these ideas of these concepts that
- 5:25Speaker 1: they try to get afloat. So tell everybody about your
- 5:27Speaker 1: show before I get more detail. Everybody know exactly what
- 5:30Speaker 1: the show does, yes, and you know when I when
- 5:34Speaker 1: you set the Profit, it is exactly that it's a
- 5:37Speaker 1: mixture of the profit meets the shark tank with the
- 5:40Speaker 1: sprinkle of thealypics my life. That is really the premise
- 5:43Speaker 1: of the show. We're fixing people's businesses coming in a
- 5:46Speaker 1: little bit of tough love, a lot of tools, a
- 5:49Speaker 1: lot of information, a lot of resources. There are some
- 5:53Speaker 1: investment piece that comes along with some of the ladies,
- 5:55Speaker 1: like you saw an episode two by this past Saturday,
- 5:59Speaker 1: UM so it UM and the help comes in different forms.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Each business owner is in a different industry, different state
- 6:05Speaker 1: of her business and it has different needs. So every
- 6:09Speaker 1: individual episode will be unique. We can't just do it once,
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know, once ize fits all approached, So we're meeting
- 6:15Speaker 1: them where there are, give them what they need at
- 6:18Speaker 1: that present time, UM to get them to do success.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So the mess you said, you're doing this with eight businesses,
- 6:25Speaker 1: will you well you involved in the process of selecting
- 6:28Speaker 1: the eight businesses, No, I was not. UM. There is
- 6:32Speaker 1: a team of casting UM managers that go after these ladies.
- 6:38Speaker 1: They have approached them. They all had to be obviously
- 6:40Speaker 1: African American black business owner UM that has a legitimate
- 6:44Speaker 1: business of course, and at a problem that we could
- 6:47Speaker 1: actually solve beyond just giving money. We wanted to have
- 6:50Speaker 1: them that we can actually dig our teeth in and
- 6:52Speaker 1: really help with. I don't know if you solved it,
- 6:55Speaker 1: because okay, let's let me just go back and like
- 6:58Speaker 1: the episode I saw the episode with the young lady
- 7:00Speaker 1: who's the reality star. Oh yeah, that that that that
- 7:09Speaker 1: show made her made that. Let's let's let's be real.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Now you got mad at her, did you not? I didn't?
- 7:16Speaker 1: You know why I did? And here's the deal, I
- 7:18Speaker 1: asked the producers when I went into before apology, give
- 7:22Speaker 1: everybody the back story so we can keep everybody in
- 7:24Speaker 1: this journey about what this show was about and then
- 7:27Speaker 1: why you got made. Okay, so that this what is
- 7:31Speaker 1: this episode about? This particular episode with eight hundred West
- 7:34Speaker 1: was all about helping a reality star named Megan James
- 7:38Speaker 1: with her Swimwa swimwear fashion line that she makes for
- 7:43Speaker 1: fashion of a big reteller that's very popular. So she
- 7:47Speaker 1: brought in with her a partner that she actually was
- 7:50Speaker 1: blessed with. This woman who's um connected in the industry,
- 7:54Speaker 1: is cutting and so wasn't a material handlers and production
- 7:57Speaker 1: and she does all this stuff that you need to
- 7:59Speaker 1: contact you. She became her partner, a very minor partner.
- 8:04Speaker 1: But this partner of hers gave her credit she may
- 8:08Speaker 1: get to use because she had eighteen years of credit
- 8:12Speaker 1: established with these people and Ms James did not pay
- 8:15Speaker 1: her bills. And so now this poor lady Tanya is
- 8:19Speaker 1: faced over eleven thousand dollars worth of it build and
- 8:23Speaker 1: potentially we'll be sued. So um, the reason why I
- 8:27Speaker 1: got set with Mrs James is because he did not
- 8:31Speaker 1: take account of the whole accountability for her action. She
- 8:34Speaker 1: did not care that she's what she did to Miss Tanya.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I felt horrible that she has this platform that she
- 8:41Speaker 1: can actually do good with, but instead she's making us
- 8:44Speaker 1: look bad. We as black woman already have a lot
- 8:46Speaker 1: of things we have to face and deal with negativity,
- 8:49Speaker 1: negative impressions and impressions of us, and we have to
- 8:54Speaker 1: set up bar higher for ourselves. And when you have
- 8:57Speaker 1: the opportunity to do so in a platform, take it seriously.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And I was disappointed with her. Um, So that's where
- 9:05Speaker 1: you see the anger coming from, because I want her
- 9:07Speaker 1: to be better. Well, the thing about it in that scene,
- 9:10Speaker 1: let me just tell you, guys, I was upset because
- 9:14Speaker 1: Megan that's her name, correct, was selfish. They're selfish, this younger.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Her partner was crying. Her was emotionally crying, pleading her
- 9:22Speaker 1: case with receipts, and you know what they're going, what's
- 9:27Speaker 1: the problem. I don't care, she said, I don't. It
- 9:29Speaker 1: doesn't make me feel bad. I don't know about it
- 9:31Speaker 1: at all. I'm like, oh my goodness, and I think
- 9:34Speaker 1: we need to move her up an hour to y'all
- 9:36Speaker 1: gonna take my life and then come back to this show. Well,
- 9:39Speaker 1: you know you fix it, though, I'm gonna tell you
- 9:41Speaker 1: somebody else on this show, because when you watch this
- 9:43Speaker 1: she gotta watch these shows because they grab you. They
- 9:45Speaker 1: get you once you once you realize you're dealing with
- 9:46Speaker 1: a crazy person. You're trying to figure out how miss
- 9:48Speaker 1: Dillinger is gonna fix this problem, because I'm looking at
- 9:52Speaker 1: the person who had no She was just she was
- 9:54Speaker 1: just popular because she came from a rally show. She
- 9:57Speaker 1: had no respect for the process, She had no big
- 10:00Speaker 1: this sense, she had no respect for her partner. She
- 10:03Speaker 1: spent the money that was supposed to go pay for
- 10:06Speaker 1: the bills on herself. That was the part that got
- 10:10Speaker 1: everybody mad, is that she had the money, she decided
- 10:14Speaker 1: guess what that's profits, profits go to them. Yes, yeah, yes, sir.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That was very hard for me to hear. That was
- 10:24Speaker 1: very hard for me to hear. I think it was
- 10:25Speaker 1: hard for me to see was when she was pitching
- 10:29Speaker 1: to investors. That was hard. She she put a little
- 10:37Speaker 1: bikini out there and didn't know the price of the
- 10:39Speaker 1: bikini and uh and talking about this is this is
- 10:43Speaker 1: my product, one product. Now you know you're trying to
- 10:45Speaker 1: pitch to investors, you're just gonna bring in a bikini
- 10:48Speaker 1: and say this is an example of my product. And
- 10:51Speaker 1: it was in a little looked like a sandwich bad,
- 10:53Speaker 1: a little a little sandwich bad because it was it
- 10:56Speaker 1: was just like watching this stuff going okay, how then
- 11:00Speaker 1: and then you know Ms Dill just she's sitting up
- 11:01Speaker 1: there with four three other people black girl on end.
- 11:04Speaker 1: She was done with her from jump okay it was
- 11:06Speaker 1: the other black lady sitting on the end. She was like,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I knew she was done as soon as she walks
- 11:10Speaker 1: in the room and still up and started studying the
- 11:11Speaker 1: black la like really, okay, they took up if these
- 11:14Speaker 1: cameras one on, I tell her to get out of
- 11:18Speaker 1: That's how bad he was And so, but what would
- 11:21Speaker 1: embarrassed me? Would embarrassed me because she because again she's
- 11:26Speaker 1: she's represented. I always tell people, you know, if one
- 11:28Speaker 1: black person to shoot somebody, all black people shot somebody.
- 11:32Speaker 1: And that's what you you. You're becoming that pool of ignorance. Okay,
- 11:35Speaker 1: here's a young lady claims she wants to get in business.
- 11:39Speaker 1: She has a business partner over there. She don't care
- 11:41Speaker 1: nothing about. All she wants to do is make money.
- 11:43Speaker 1: She knows no idea that if you make ten dollars,
- 11:45Speaker 1: probably now that it goes to pay bills, you keep
- 11:47Speaker 1: one dollar. Now on to her lifestyle. Okay, girls sitting
- 11:52Speaker 1: right in front of her, little little girl crying tears,
- 11:55Speaker 1: talking about you ruining Gertha. I just take out the
- 11:57Speaker 1: law and just get dump you, get you out of
- 11:59Speaker 1: my life because obviously you don't care. And then she's
- 12:03Speaker 1: like the mediator in between all this ignorance. Crying girl
- 12:07Speaker 1: on this side, ignorant woman on this side. Okay, that's
- 12:12Speaker 1: how mad I got watching this show, and so I
- 12:15Speaker 1: because see curse too, That's why I wanted to let
- 12:16Speaker 1: you know, curs right a sacent to beat up. So
- 12:21Speaker 1: that's how I made both of us mad and so
- 12:24Speaker 1: so when you get to that point in the show
- 12:26Speaker 1: and you start realizing that that that that you you said,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you said that these people are brought to you. You
- 12:33Speaker 1: don't hand you don't get involved in the in the process.
- 12:35Speaker 1: How do you get your information on being able to
- 12:38Speaker 1: build the story out? Well? I, you know, I and
- 12:41Speaker 1: could truth be told. I didn't want making on the
- 12:44Speaker 1: show when I saw the cast, the list of everyone
- 12:47Speaker 1: on the wall, and I said, I didn't want to
- 12:49Speaker 1: show the be about that, you know, because I already
- 12:51Speaker 1: knew who she was. Um, And they told me, promised
- 12:56Speaker 1: like trust us, we know we're doing I'm like, okay, um,
- 12:59Speaker 1: And then I kept reading more about it. So the script,
- 13:01Speaker 1: what there is in a script? Fy I, There isn't
- 13:03Speaker 1: a script. This is all will no scripts, as you
- 13:07Speaker 1: probably can tell, but some reality shows have have scripts.
- 13:09Speaker 1: This is not a script of reality show. This was
- 13:12Speaker 1: a show where the story was given to me as
- 13:14Speaker 1: to what's going on. They sat down, they spoke to
- 13:17Speaker 1: each and every one of the employees and business owners
- 13:20Speaker 1: and got all the individual stories and bought them to
- 13:23Speaker 1: me to review. And there was a storyline creative of
- 13:27Speaker 1: what they're doing. Each and every moment um. So, for example,
- 13:30Speaker 1: in hunder west Um episode with Megan, Um, You're gonna
- 13:34Speaker 1: go to her office to me with her and sit
- 13:36Speaker 1: down and talk to her about her her new designs
- 13:39Speaker 1: and so what the objective out of this meeting is
- 13:41Speaker 1: to get X y Z. So there's a scene where
- 13:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna be and objective and there isn't anything else
- 13:46Speaker 1: beyond that, and I dig and ask the questions I
- 13:49Speaker 1: need to ask to get to what I need to
- 13:50Speaker 1: get cool. Hold that thought right there. We're gonna be
- 13:53Speaker 1: back with more money making conversations, keep winning everybody. Um,
- 13:57Speaker 1: she's a sorrow or showing owners every Saturday night at
- 14:00Speaker 1: temp M is called mind your Own Business, and that's
- 14:03Speaker 1: what I'm doing. I'm minding them my mind and my
- 14:06Speaker 1: own business to be back. Hi, just us Sean McDonald's
- 14:08Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with Mahitha dell Linger. She's the
- 14:11Speaker 1: star of a new TV show on the own network
- 14:14Speaker 1: called Mind Your Own Business with Mahsha And it's really
- 14:18Speaker 1: engaging because it got me emotionally charged. But let's go
- 14:22Speaker 1: back a little bit in this break to talk about
- 14:24Speaker 1: how did you get to this TV show? Now? I
- 14:27Speaker 1: mentioned it in your credit to You're from self, Sacramento
- 14:30Speaker 1: and a company called curls. So you said, this show
- 14:32Speaker 1: us about interviewing African American females who are entrepreneurs. You
- 14:37Speaker 1: come from that world, You developed that word. How did
- 14:39Speaker 1: you get started with this company called curl Yes, so
- 14:42Speaker 1: curl bt brands. Um, It's a brand that I created
- 14:45Speaker 1: over fifteen years ago. Very small brand initially because I
- 14:49Speaker 1: came from nothing, so I didn't have a lot to
- 14:51Speaker 1: put into it. But I was in corporate America and
- 14:55Speaker 1: that faced corporate racism for the first time and was
- 14:58Speaker 1: devastated because I was a young single mother and this
- 15:01Speaker 1: this man was looking to get rid of me. And
- 15:02Speaker 1: I was very stressed about the whole possibility of my
- 15:06Speaker 1: financial picture given that you know what his plans were
- 15:09Speaker 1: for me. So after I got through that process, I
- 15:12Speaker 1: realized I wanted to work for myself because it was
- 15:15Speaker 1: something that I had never experienced before. But also it's
- 15:17Speaker 1: very daunting, and I thought, I'm never gonna allow anyone
- 15:20Speaker 1: else to hold my financial destiny and a palm in
- 15:23Speaker 1: their hands, even if it was just for a couple
- 15:25Speaker 1: of months. I didn't like it filling, so I started
- 15:27Speaker 1: to do my duke diligence to see what kind of
- 15:30Speaker 1: business I could actually launch that would be profitable, sustainable
- 15:34Speaker 1: and something needed. And I was a newly natural mom
- 15:37Speaker 1: and I needed products from my hair. But the ethnic
- 15:39Speaker 1: aisle back then was think about that two thousand two
- 15:43Speaker 1: years that was what Jerry curl products. Perms, relaxing had
- 15:47Speaker 1: be grief not a lot, right, So wave Nubau was
- 15:50Speaker 1: the only option really, So I decided to see if
- 15:53Speaker 1: that was a sustainable business and it was. There were
- 15:55Speaker 1: many other women at the time transitioning back to natural
- 15:59Speaker 1: and that's my Da Curls and they started very small
- 16:02Speaker 1: e commerce space. I was working in my garage and
- 16:06Speaker 1: then we we started getting calls from salons, and then
- 16:08Speaker 1: distributers started calling, and then target called, And that was
- 16:12Speaker 1: really the transition of the hold on dealgy. How did
- 16:17Speaker 1: you get to target calling? You though you do, you
- 16:22Speaker 1: certainly went from you know, don't know what you're gonna
- 16:24Speaker 1: do with your life, making stuff in your kitchen to
- 16:26Speaker 1: target calling. Well, that was seven years later. It was
- 16:29Speaker 1: the same thing it was seven years later at y I.
- 16:33Speaker 1: That was seven years of grinding, no social media to
- 16:37Speaker 1: help me. It was all about being very aggressive with
- 16:42Speaker 1: my approach, but creative as well. So the buyer back
- 16:44Speaker 1: then she and her name was Rendas Solo and then
- 16:46Speaker 1: she was a blonde hair, blue eyed buyer for ethnic
- 16:50Speaker 1: hair care. So she wasn't sure why her category was selling.
- 16:53Speaker 1: She had all these relaxes that were no longer settling well.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So she started to do her research and saw that
- 16:58Speaker 1: there are a few brands like mine underground, but had
- 17:01Speaker 1: a lot of bugs. And she called me in for
- 17:04Speaker 1: a meeting, and she said, we'll give you a test
- 17:06Speaker 1: a hundred and five stores. We'll put you on this
- 17:09Speaker 1: premium in cap and see how you do. If you
- 17:11Speaker 1: guys do well, well, we'll keep growing you. If not,
- 17:14Speaker 1: will ship you all your stuff back and be on
- 17:16Speaker 1: your way. So we all did well. Together, we kept
- 17:18Speaker 1: going and going and going. As as she grew us,
- 17:21Speaker 1: she added more brands, and she creates the very first
- 17:24Speaker 1: ethnic category, the newly national category in this industry. Now
- 17:28Speaker 1: that everyone has Now you can go to CDs, Walgring,
- 17:31Speaker 1: to write a Walmart and all the other stores, and
- 17:33Speaker 1: now you can see that natural brand and said, and
- 17:37Speaker 1: Curls was one of the pioneers. We were one of
- 17:39Speaker 1: the first to kick it. Off you know some that
- 17:42Speaker 1: is such a cool story. So when your products went
- 17:45Speaker 1: into this on the stores, that's like I heard your
- 17:48Speaker 1: song on the radio. If you're a singer, you know,
- 17:51Speaker 1: So what did did you do anything extra to try
- 17:53Speaker 1: to get sales going? I know you don't have social
- 17:56Speaker 1: media as it is today's dominant is today. Did you
- 17:59Speaker 1: do anything? X sure make any phone calls? Were you
- 18:01Speaker 1: there old and upside buy my products samples in the
- 18:05Speaker 1: Target stores they were near you? What did you do? Well?
- 18:08Speaker 1: We couldn't do in stores back then, So I did
- 18:10Speaker 1: a lot of stuff, Like we did a lot of
- 18:12Speaker 1: sampling for events that had black women. They maybe weren't
- 18:15Speaker 1: hair related, but we would give samples out and say
- 18:18Speaker 1: go buy that Target um. And then we did a
- 18:20Speaker 1: lot and then we did social lap Facebook, I know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I think was my Space back then, so we advertised
- 18:25Speaker 1: my people know we're at my you know, at Target.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And there's also some back then chat groups, chat rooms
- 18:31Speaker 1: like um Naturality, na Naturally Nap, Nappy Hairs, what blend
- 18:36Speaker 1: up and the naturally Curl and all these other sites
- 18:38Speaker 1: that were checked groups to protect your hair, we advertised there.
- 18:42Speaker 1: We it was very specific and um we let people
- 18:45Speaker 1: know and then they and target off the partner with
- 18:47Speaker 1: us and did the in capet the pictures of every
- 18:50Speaker 1: brand owner. And we were in pren A prim location.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I mean that's in The in caps are expensive, they
- 18:56Speaker 1: usually cost so we were able to get exposure just
- 18:59Speaker 1: from the inn caps alone. Just walk by you see
- 19:01Speaker 1: the product. That's that's right, that's the beautiful of that,
- 19:04Speaker 1: that opportunity. You just push your little basket down the
- 19:07Speaker 1: out going Oh yeah, what is this? Oh yeah, let's
- 19:10Speaker 1: try that. Okay, that's awesome. So so now you you
- 19:13Speaker 1: have that level of success. How did the TV show
- 19:17Speaker 1: come about? Well, there was originally um a show that
- 19:22Speaker 1: they had interviewed me for that was going to be
- 19:24Speaker 1: all about other black haircare brand owners. It was gonna
- 19:28Speaker 1: be four or five of us. And when that it
- 19:29Speaker 1: pan out on the producers remembered me from my interview
- 19:33Speaker 1: and you just stood out. You just like that, just
- 19:37Speaker 1: walking around, You're just taking tro What did I say?
- 19:39Speaker 1: What did I say? Hit? So everybody please watch it
- 19:42Speaker 1: on Saturday night at ten o'clock on on Mind your
- 19:45Speaker 1: Own Business? So so you stood out your originally was
- 19:50Speaker 1: before now you yourself have to call you so what's
- 19:52Speaker 1: running into your mind when they bring you back in
- 19:55Speaker 1: because you went through this this routine before and it
- 19:57Speaker 1: didn't work out. What did it make that this process
- 20:00Speaker 1: feel a little bit different? What what what made it go? Well?
- 20:05Speaker 1: It was definitely I thought it was a better a
- 20:08Speaker 1: better project because of the need and we the producers
- 20:12Speaker 1: that created and sold the show, created an amazing sizzle
- 20:16Speaker 1: and we we went to bat first and own second
- 20:20Speaker 1: and bet him Ahad and did jump own Jump, and
- 20:24Speaker 1: umuse OpenH is really into it. OpenH is really really
- 20:28Speaker 1: into helping obviously black females and just empowering people to
- 20:31Speaker 1: be better and so it really fit for her, her
- 20:35Speaker 1: her network. Um but yeah, so that's why what it
- 20:38Speaker 1: was actually an easy sell with them as well. Um
- 20:41Speaker 1: they just they wanted to see me. The producers told
- 20:43Speaker 1: me that the network executives are like, I don't know
- 20:46Speaker 1: if she's real. I need to meet her in person.
- 20:48Speaker 1: She really a real person and she can do all that.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Let me see in person. So they brought me in
- 20:52Speaker 1: they want They asked me tons of questions. It was
- 20:54Speaker 1: twelve people in the room and a lot of questions
- 20:58Speaker 1: from my childhood all the way to my my success
- 21:00Speaker 1: Carl and who I help, what kind of advice I gives?
- 21:04Speaker 1: Gave me some random, you know, scenarios. It was just
- 21:07Speaker 1: very interesting. Yeah, good blow them out the water. So
- 21:09Speaker 1: I'm on the phone with the founder of Curls. Um
- 21:15Speaker 1: It's is a is a naturally organic hair care products. Correct? Yes,
- 21:19Speaker 1: for more than what natural waves curls and kings. Good, awesome.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Now we got to go back to your show and
- 21:25Speaker 1: talk about this other episode. I saw the show we're
- 21:28Speaker 1: talking about this Mind your Business, Hm. The lady that
- 21:36Speaker 1: the owner didn't know how to fire people, and she
- 21:39Speaker 1: was filled with excuses. Now when that subject can that
- 21:43Speaker 1: sounds very familiar with me to me, you know these people,
- 21:46Speaker 1: you know their fans and family or and they don't
- 21:48Speaker 1: know don't want nobody to feel bad about I told
- 21:50Speaker 1: somebody wants I said, you cannot when you hired people,
- 21:53Speaker 1: you cannot worry about their house notes. You can't worry
- 21:56Speaker 1: about whether they're gonna feed. You can only worry about
- 21:59Speaker 1: when they come to you or they delivering. Because if
- 22:02Speaker 1: you were about that other stuff, you never fired people
- 22:04Speaker 1: that need to be fired. I always tell people when
- 22:06Speaker 1: you fire somebody, really you're just helping them along. In
- 22:09Speaker 1: their career path because it obviously it's your location. So
- 22:15Speaker 1: so so she didn't want to fire this young lady.
- 22:19Speaker 1: How did that get to the point that she was
- 22:21Speaker 1: finally able to let her go? And this character will
- 22:23Speaker 1: get drunk on the job and is running the cash
- 22:25Speaker 1: here like having a drunk cash here. It's your job.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Oh god, it is a barbecue. Join. Yeah, my father's
- 22:34Speaker 1: Bobby here. Y'all think I'm making this stuff out on
- 22:38Speaker 1: TV Saturday to night. Yes, so welcome through the steps.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I watched too much TV, though I watched too much TV.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I watched I'm sorry, well this was this was my
- 22:49Speaker 1: father's barbecue, was chef Sara Marlane Um. She had a
- 22:52Speaker 1: heart of goal where she wanted to continue. She's so
- 22:54Speaker 1: bad she want to let anyone go with they She
- 22:57Speaker 1: felt responsible for them because they have families. You said,
- 23:00Speaker 1: you know, I understand that part at the time when
- 23:04Speaker 1: your business is being jeopardized by someone that can cause
- 23:08Speaker 1: you a regal issue, like someone fighting someone drunk, but
- 23:11Speaker 1: they get they're drunk and they fall over and hurt
- 23:12Speaker 1: themselves or someone else. Their legalities around it that she
- 23:15Speaker 1: needs to be aware of. That really opened her eyes
- 23:17Speaker 1: and woke her up, but she didn't have the ball
- 23:20Speaker 1: to do so she just felt, I'm not sure about
- 23:24Speaker 1: how to do it. And I was so surprised that
- 23:26Speaker 1: she's a strong willed woman, but she just couldn't do it.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And even after after her one of her cooks stole
- 23:33Speaker 1: from her, and she knew for months before I started,
- 23:36Speaker 1: she didn't she didn't fire that person. I forgot about
- 23:39Speaker 1: that one. I forgot about the thief, I forgot about
- 23:41Speaker 1: the thing. Continue, please continue. So we we had, you know,
- 23:45Speaker 1: so we had these you know, stealing going on. We
- 23:48Speaker 1: had a drug addict Cindy. Then we had the a
- 23:50Speaker 1: few drunks, and and then just fights on in the
- 23:54Speaker 1: restaurant outside that restaurant, just just crazy, crazy, crazy crazy.
- 23:58Speaker 1: And I thought, shout, Mark, if you do not stop this,
- 24:01Speaker 1: you're gonna lose your business. No one's going to respect you,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and no one's gonna want to eat here. And I
- 24:07Speaker 1: showed her also what she needs to do with her life,
- 24:09Speaker 1: like she has any baby, but she was used as
- 24:12Speaker 1: a real excuse why she couldn't be there. I felt, um,
- 24:17Speaker 1: she was making some excuses for having that baby too.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And you told her I've had I got two kids
- 24:23Speaker 1: back to back. Who am on to part? I remember
- 24:25Speaker 1: every thing? Yes, And she said, well, I you know
- 24:29Speaker 1: I have a baby. I had she back to back,
- 24:32Speaker 1: and that's when I went into about getting a good
- 24:34Speaker 1: support system. She needs to have a nanny so she
- 24:36Speaker 1: could come back and forth. Maybe that you know, So
- 24:38Speaker 1: there's some things we can do. I know because I
- 24:40Speaker 1: did it. I had to do it too. Um. It's
- 24:43Speaker 1: a matter of having a matter of will versus excuses. UM.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And I think she got through it though she really
- 24:50Speaker 1: feels more power now. Well, I think it's really important
- 24:52Speaker 1: that you have a show like this. I want to
- 24:54Speaker 1: thank you just for being you, first of all, and
- 24:58Speaker 1: I'm doing enjoy I have enjoyed my time watching this show.
- 25:01Speaker 1: And it also I want to tell people if you're
- 25:04Speaker 1: if you're an entrepreneur, first of all, watch the show
- 25:07Speaker 1: because you're gonna learn something about how to build your
- 25:09Speaker 1: business and also how to handle workers. And I also
- 25:11Speaker 1: have to look inside yourself to plan a better opportunity.
- 25:14Speaker 1: If you want to see a young lady try to
- 25:17Speaker 1: straighten out the lives and get people on just more
- 25:20Speaker 1: than faith, because a lot of people start businesses on faith.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Then this is a show to watch. I've had a
- 25:25Speaker 1: great time watching them. I'm glad you called my show
