- 0:01Luke Chapter 11, it happened that while Jesus was praying in
- 0:04a certain place, after he had finished, one of his disciples
- 0:07said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught
- 0:11his disciples. And he said to them, When you
- 0:14pray, say, Father hallowed, be your name, your Kingdom come
- 0:20give us each day Our Daily Bread, and forgive us our sins,
- 0:24for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us,
- 0:28and lead us not into temptation. Then he said to them, Suppose
- 0:32one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to
- 0:35him, Friend, lend ME3 loaves. For a friend of mine has come to
- 0:39me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him.
- 0:42And from inside he answers and says, Do not bother me, The door
- 0:45has already been shut, and my children and I are in bed.
- 0:48I cannot get up and give you anything.
- 0:50I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him
- 0:53anything, because he is his friend, yet because of his
- 0:56persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
- 0:59So I say to you, ask and it will be given to you, seek and you
- 1:03will find knock, and it will be open to you, for everyone who
- 1:08asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it
- 1:12will be opened. Now suppose one of the one of
- 1:15you fathers is asked by his son for a fish.
- 1:17He will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?
- 1:20Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion,
- 1:23will he? If you then, being evil know how
- 1:26to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
- 1:29your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask
- 1:32him? And he was casting out a demon,
- 1:35and it was mute. When the demon had gone out, the
- 1:38mute man spoke, and the crowds were amazed.
- 1:40But some of them said He cast out demons by Beelzebel, the
- 1:44ruler of the demons. Others to test him were
- 1:46demanding of him a sign from heaven.
- 1:49But he knew their thoughts, and said to them, Any Kingdom
- 1:52divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided
- 1:55against itself falls. If Satan also is divided against
- 1:59himself, how will his Kingdom stand?
- 2:02For you say that I cast out demons by beelisable.
- 2:05And if I by beelisable cast out demons, by whom do your sons
- 2:08cast them out? So they will be your judges.
- 2:11But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the Kingdom
- 2:15of God has come upon you. When a strong man, fully armed,
- 2:18guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed, but
- 2:22when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him,
- 2:25he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied,
- 2:28and distributes his plunder. He who is not with me is against
- 2:32me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.
- 2:36When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through
- 2:40waterless places, seeking rest and not finding any.
- 2:43It says, I will return to my house from which I came, and
- 2:46when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.
- 2:49Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil
- 2:51than itself, and they go in and live there, And the last state
- 2:55of that man becomes worse than the first.
- 2:57While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the
- 2:59crowd raised her voice and said to him, Blessed is the womb that
- 3:03bore you, and the breast at which you nursed.
- 3:05But he said, On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the
- 3:08word of God and observe it. As the crowds were increasing,
- 3:12he began to say, This generation is a wicked generation.
- 3:16It seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the
- 3:18sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign
- 3:21to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this
- 3:24generation. The queen of the South will rise
- 3:27up with the men of this generation at the judgment and
- 3:29condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to
- 3:32hear the wisdom of Solomon. And behold, something greater
- 3:35than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will stand up
- 3:38with this generation at the judgment and condemn it, because
- 3:41they repented at the preaching of Jonah.
- 3:43And behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
- 3:46No one after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar, nor
- 3:49under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who
- 3:52enter may see the light. The eye is the lamp of your
- 3:55body. When your eye is clear, your
- 3:57whole body also is full of light, but when it is bad, your
- 4:00body also is full of darkness. Then watch out that the light in
- 4:04you is not darkness. If, therefore, your whole body
- 4:07is full of light with no dark part in it, it will be wholly
- 4:10illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its rays.
- 4:15Now when he had spoken, a Pharisee asked him to have lunch
- 4:17with him, and he went in and reclined at the table.
- 4:20When the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised that he had not first
- 4:22ceremonially washed before the meal.
- 4:25But the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisees, clean the outside
- 4:28of the cup and of the platter, but inside of you, you are full
- 4:31of robbery and wickedness. You foolish ones, did not he who
- 4:35made the outside make the inside also, but give that which is
- 4:38within as charity, and then all things are cleaned for you.
- 4:41But woe to you Pharisees, for you pay tithe of mint and Roux
- 4:45in every kind of garden herb, and yet disregard justice and
- 4:49the love of God. But these are the things you
- 4:51should have done without neglecting the others.
- 4:53Woe to you Pharisees, for you love the chief seats in the
- 4:56synagogues and the respectful greetings in the marketplaces.
- 5:00Woe to you, for you are like concealed tombs, and the people
- 5:03who walk over them are unaware of it.
- 5:06One of the lawyers said to him in reply, Teacher, when you say
- 5:09this, you insult us too. But he said woe to you lawyers
- 5:12as well, for you weigh men down with burdens hard to bear, while
- 5:16you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of
- 5:19your fingers. Woe to you, for you build the
- 5:21tombs of the prophets, and it was your father's who killed
- 5:24them. So you are witnesses and
- 5:26approved the deeds of your father's, because it was they
- 5:29who killed them, and you build their tombs.
- 5:31For this reason also the wisdom of God said, I will send to them
- 5:35prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some
- 5:38they will persecute, so that the blood of all the prophets shed
- 5:42since the foundation of the world may be charged against
- 5:44this generation. From the blood of Abel to the
- 5:47blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the
- 5:50House of God. Yes, I tell you, it shall be
- 5:53charged against this generation. Woe to you lawyers, for you have
- 5:57taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter,
- 6:01and you hindered those who were entering.
- 6:03When he left there, the Scribes and the Pharisees began to be
- 6:06very hostile and to question him closely on many subjects,
- 6:09plotting against him to catch him in something he might say.
