- 2:46Speaker 1: next guest, she's on the phone. Uh. Last time she
- 2:48Speaker 1: was on the phone, she was talking about her Curving
- 2:50Speaker 1: Lines clothing line, which is fantastic. She's on the show
- 2:54Speaker 1: today talk about a movie I just watts on Lifetime,
- 2:58Speaker 1: the Legendary Clock Sisters. She's been singing professionally this since
- 3:02Speaker 1: the age of nine, and releasing a six studio album
- 3:05Speaker 1: entitled Care on April seventeen. The album's first single was
- 3:09Speaker 1: Don't Judge featuring Missy Ellett. Her latest single is called
- 3:13Speaker 1: It Keeps Happening and it's out now. She's only show
- 3:16Speaker 1: to talk about that. The Lifetime biopic The Clark's Sisters
- 3:19Speaker 1: The First Ladies of Gospel, premiering on Lifetime on April eleven.
- 3:25Speaker 1: My guests portrays her mother in the movie and does
- 3:27Speaker 1: an amazing job. You know, she can sing, but she
- 3:30Speaker 1: can act. To welcome to money making conversations, my friend
- 3:35Speaker 1: kier Key Key cheered, thank you so much without amazing welcome. Well,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you know, first of all, it's a blessing, you know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: because we live a life filled with blessing despite our times,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and and to be able to interview people doing these
- 3:52Speaker 1: trying times to provide good quality content so people can
- 3:56Speaker 1: you know, move on over their life, don't feel like
- 3:57Speaker 1: they're being bored to tie down and everything is repeat.
- 4:00Speaker 1: It's a blessing to me and that to be able
- 4:02Speaker 1: to get you on my show to talk about this
- 4:04Speaker 1: amazing movie. You kind of dropped a hint on me
- 4:06Speaker 1: last time I interviewed you last year about this movie
- 4:10Speaker 1: was coming now is out just before I get into
- 4:13Speaker 1: my details and store just talking about how much I
- 4:15Speaker 1: loved it and you know, the acting and everything. It's
- 4:18Speaker 1: just talking about the experience of getting it to the screen. Uh,
- 4:22Speaker 1: you know, it was really it was a blast. Um.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It took hard work, it took dedication, it took commitment,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and UM, I was super grateful for the opportunity. Um,
- 4:33Speaker 1: it's a dream for me, and it's personal for me.
- 4:36Speaker 1: It's not just you know, an opportunity. But this is
- 4:39Speaker 1: something that I had to do. Um, you know, or
- 4:42Speaker 1: that I wanted to do an honor of my mother
- 4:45Speaker 1: to pay respect to her. And having the opportunity to
- 4:49Speaker 1: uh again pay homage to her, but um, pay honor
- 4:53Speaker 1: to her, to this magnitude and having the dream come
- 4:57Speaker 1: true while I'm doing it, that's just absolutely amazing. And
- 5:00Speaker 1: it's a good story. It's not like a whack or anything.
- 5:03Speaker 1: So um, it was all fun. It took work, like
- 5:06Speaker 1: I said, and it took me focus, uh, focusing in
- 5:09Speaker 1: and throwing in, but it was it was a great experience. Well,
- 5:13Speaker 1: the thing about you know, we're in the uh me
- 5:15Speaker 1: to generation. You know that to two of the executive
- 5:18Speaker 1: producers on the show, Luisa Jones, for the movie Good
- 5:21Speaker 1: Friend has done a lot of my career and Steve
- 5:24Speaker 1: Harvest career. Holly Carter, another talented UH television producer, film producer,
- 5:31Speaker 1: music producer, was one of the executive producers on the
- 5:34Speaker 1: film project. So I saw their names, I knew, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 1: all looks like they said. Lucien's will be tied correctly
- 5:41Speaker 1: and correct absolutely all of that. You got it right, um.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And not only that, but these those names that you've mentioned, Um,
- 5:53Speaker 1: not only are they responsible for successful stories and successful works,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but they also are moderate of people of faith, and
- 6:02Speaker 1: they're not just anxious to just let a story out
- 6:05Speaker 1: and to put out dramas that they wanted to make sense.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And they keep the talents lives um in mind. And
- 6:11Speaker 1: so I pay respect to them for that, for telling
- 6:15Speaker 1: the beautiful story but making sure that it's intact. So
- 6:17Speaker 1: that's exactly what you said. So the story we're talking
- 6:20Speaker 1: about is the Clok's Sisters The Life the First Ladies
- 6:23Speaker 1: of Gospel, premiering on Lifetime on April eleven. Okay, here's
- 6:27Speaker 1: the there there there's certain data of the importance. The
- 6:29Speaker 1: movie starts out in nineteen sixty three in Detroit and
- 6:33Speaker 1: the Clark's sisters. The mom, you know, Dr Maddie Moss Clark,
- 6:36Speaker 1: you know, she was kind of like it was reference
- 6:38Speaker 1: kind of like the Joe Jackson of the time for gospel.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But you know when I when I looked at this movie,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I didn't know what to expect here. I'm keep I'll
- 6:48Speaker 1: be honest with you, because you know how we're going.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Is it gonna be a wholesome movie? They're gonna be
- 6:51Speaker 1: gloss over? Is it gonna be is it gonna be dramatic?
- 6:54Speaker 1: What it's gonna be? You guys told an effective story,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you know, over a long period of time, and then
- 7:03Speaker 1: and didn't hold back, didn't hold back. You know, Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 1: it was really good. And when I say that, I
- 7:10Speaker 1: mean that you know your grandfather he was I had
- 7:13Speaker 1: to say the word abusive, okay. And then and then
- 7:17Speaker 1: the mom she was a blessing, but she was also
- 7:20Speaker 1: a tyrant because she was so she was so God
- 7:23Speaker 1: fearing that she didn't she didn't see any other dreams
- 7:27Speaker 1: that weren't tied to God. She didn't want to hear
- 7:31Speaker 1: she didn't want to hear it, and and and and
- 7:33Speaker 1: in some ways that's in some ways when you tell
- 7:35Speaker 1: that story. You realize that the success of the clocks
- 7:39Speaker 1: was tied to a person who understood, and that's the mom.
- 7:42Speaker 1: She understood everybody's gifts. She understood. She was she was focused, driven,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but she didn't she didn't bend at all. And when
- 7:49Speaker 1: you start telling the story like this and you're playing
- 7:51Speaker 1: actual role in the story, how do you play off?
- 7:54Speaker 1: How do you deal with you know, telling some stories
- 7:57Speaker 1: that might not be flattering, but the story you want
- 8:00Speaker 1: to tell us the right are close to the right story.
- 8:02Speaker 1: How did how did you take that? Um? How did
- 8:08Speaker 1: I take it? Can you ask that question? Okay, cool,
- 8:11Speaker 1: no problem. Here's the show, a movie that's appearing on Lifetime,
- 8:15Speaker 1: and sometimes the characters a part of your personal life,
- 8:18Speaker 1: weren't flattering, like you're like the role of NeSy. We
- 8:21Speaker 1: saw how that played out in the movie. Uh, your
- 8:24Speaker 1: grandmother Dr Maddie. Um, she was a tyrant I do
- 8:28Speaker 1: use I can? I'm not incorrect when I used the
- 8:31Speaker 1: word she She was had tyrant tendencies. He was overbearing,
- 8:35Speaker 1: she would gold driven. She was a taskmasker. You know
- 8:39Speaker 1: she only she thought hall way with the highway type approach.
- 8:43Speaker 1: When you're doing a show like that or a movie
- 8:45Speaker 1: like that or a film like this. How does it?
- 8:48Speaker 1: How does it play on you to say, you know,
- 8:50Speaker 1: this is this doesn't look good for my grandmother, but
- 8:53Speaker 1: this is how she This is to tell a story correctly,
- 8:56Speaker 1: we got to tell this side of her. How did
- 8:58Speaker 1: that play for you emotionally in this project? UM? Well, first,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I wouldn't say that she was a tyrant because UM,
- 9:08Speaker 1: what's associated with tyrant is oppression and or like a
- 9:12Speaker 1: cool ruler kind of thing. I'm not mistaken by that definition. UM.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I will say that that she was a strong woman.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And I do think that obviously this this new generation
- 9:25Speaker 1: may not agree with some ways um, as we don't
- 9:29Speaker 1: agree with a lot of ways of the traditional approach. UM. However,
- 9:34Speaker 1: we see what it has done for them, and UM,
- 9:37Speaker 1: it actually has allowed me to honor the way that
- 9:40Speaker 1: they have led UM their children speaking of the generations
- 9:44Speaker 1: before UM. And to answer your question, though, I think
- 9:48Speaker 1: everybody has a story, UM, So how I was able
- 9:51Speaker 1: to still move along and UM still honor those who
- 9:55Speaker 1: were still a part of blaze in the trail because
- 9:57Speaker 1: I choose to me and spit out the bone. You know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: there are some people that we are overly obsessed with
- 10:03Speaker 1: and we love dearly. Um, but not every way that
- 10:06Speaker 1: they choose or decision that they make is the best
- 10:09Speaker 1: thing to do. So um, that's how I would say,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I choose to move forward. Um. I think that my grandmother, Um,
- 10:17Speaker 1: she had to be that way because again she was
- 10:19Speaker 1: a woman in the leadership and if we noticed she
- 10:23Speaker 1: had to fight, she had a challenge or I'll just say,
- 10:27Speaker 1: a challenge with men on both sides, whether it was
- 10:29Speaker 1: in her home or if it was in her public leadership.
- 10:33Speaker 1: For uh form Um, So I would say, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you just again, you choose to me to put out
- 10:38Speaker 1: the bones. That's such as life, that's what comes with it.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And um, I was still glad to be a part
- 10:43Speaker 1: of the story. It's a beautiful story because her legacy
- 10:46Speaker 1: still lives on. And very often we put to a
- 10:50Speaker 1: woman who is strong and who sticks to their guns
- 10:53Speaker 1: that they have this negative way of doing things or
- 10:57Speaker 1: they are this negative kind of person. But if it's
- 10:59Speaker 1: a man, then it's considered to be different. And so
- 11:02Speaker 1: I'm excited that her story is able to be told
- 11:05Speaker 1: in this time and in this day because we're now
- 11:08Speaker 1: acknowledging women in history, pioneers who are women, female pioneers
- 11:12Speaker 1: and so forth. So um, yeah, that's how I'm able
- 11:16Speaker 1: to push past the story. And she's been firing. She's
- 11:17Speaker 1: an ambitious woman. And again she said to her gun, well,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know great, And that's why I wanted to talk
- 11:23Speaker 1: about that, because we all can have perceptions and uh,
- 11:26Speaker 1: you know, and believe me, when I used the word tiring,
- 11:29Speaker 1: it was only in a in a role of being
- 11:32Speaker 1: a person who who wills their way, you know, and
- 11:35Speaker 1: in her way was same note uh beyond key, um,
- 11:41Speaker 1: you know Twinky with with her all the time. And Twinky.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Because I don't want to tell the story, but I
- 11:46Speaker 1: want to let everybody know that the years they were
- 11:50Speaker 1: important in this story because they on the on the
- 11:52Speaker 1: on the screen, they show you different years that are important.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Like I said, nineteen sixty three it was in Detroit
- 11:58Speaker 1: when you know, Motown was lazy, but she wanted to
- 12:01Speaker 1: follow the path of gospel. Then they went to nineteen
- 12:04Speaker 1: seventy three, nineteen seventy six was really the kind of
- 12:06Speaker 1: like their first performance nineteen eighty two Big Concert ninten
- 12:10Speaker 1: eighty and that. But along the way, like like she stated,
- 12:13Speaker 1: your mom had to deal with male promoters who stiffed
- 12:17Speaker 1: her or underpaid her. She had to deal with church council,
- 12:21Speaker 1: which was when I looked at that scene, it was
- 12:23Speaker 1: nothing but men telling her are reprimanding her, and also
- 12:28Speaker 1: dealing with the fact that she had the courage to
- 12:30Speaker 1: get out of a bad marriage. And and she said
- 12:33Speaker 1: she didn't want her daughters cooking the cleaning. So she
- 12:37Speaker 1: always had a more upwards, a mobile approach to what
- 12:41Speaker 1: her daughters could be and should be. She just saw
- 12:43Speaker 1: a talent and she saw that talent as their way out.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And that is what played strong to me in the movie.
- 12:52Speaker 1: And that is what you know when you when you're
- 12:54Speaker 1: playing the role of your mom. Now, now we're coming
- 12:57Speaker 1: close to home. You know her character. Did you that
- 13:00Speaker 1: you talked to you your mom about the character and
- 13:01Speaker 1: you just you saw the script. How did you develop
- 13:04Speaker 1: and play that role out? Yeah, I did talk to
- 13:09Speaker 1: my mom about it, um, but most of what I
- 13:12Speaker 1: did because I didn't want to use my mom as
- 13:13Speaker 1: a cheat sheet, But I did do my I did
- 13:17Speaker 1: do my ways of interviewing her and asking the questions
- 13:20Speaker 1: here and here, But I did a lot of studying
- 13:22Speaker 1: her about just looking at some of her UM interviews
- 13:25Speaker 1: and how she interact because I'm used to her acting
- 13:27Speaker 1: as mommy, and of course I saw a lot um,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, of her as a wife and um and
- 13:34Speaker 1: in the First Lady and all that, but as a sister, UM,
- 13:37Speaker 1: I needed to watch more closely to that. So I
- 13:39Speaker 1: did on YouTube video and I watched her interviews and
- 13:42Speaker 1: all that. So UM, that was how I prepared. Well.
- 13:46Speaker 1: The thing about it is, let me just say, since
- 13:48Speaker 1: to everybody talking to Cure, Keiki shared a key. He
- 13:52Speaker 1: is a nickname, UM. And we're talking about the lifetime
- 13:55Speaker 1: movie that she started, the legendary Clark Sisters, UM, and
- 13:59Speaker 1: so on, the be on the screens April leventh on
- 14:02Speaker 1: all television's television sets and streaming and all those good things.
- 14:07Speaker 1: When you look at Destiny's Child, you know they have
- 14:08Speaker 1: been calling most celebrated female group of all time. The
- 14:12Speaker 1: legendary clocks is that have to be considered this most
- 14:14Speaker 1: celebrated female group in gospel music history because of what
- 14:18Speaker 1: they've accomplished, the concert tickets sold, the singles, the album.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I believe that a Twinkie has written over two hundred
- 14:26Speaker 1: and fifty songs in a lifetime. That is a title
- 14:30Speaker 1: that you can't take away. That's a title that they earned,
- 14:33Speaker 1: and that's the title they earned despite you know, challenges
- 14:37Speaker 1: and a male dominated industry, challenges when people you thought
- 14:41Speaker 1: was doing your favor putting the right contract in front
- 14:43Speaker 1: of you and it's not the right contract in front
- 14:45Speaker 1: of you, and challenges that your mom was on the
- 14:48Speaker 1: road trying to make this happen in a male dominated society.
- 14:51Speaker 1: That's why you're saying, Rashaun, this is perfect in the
- 14:54Speaker 1: generation that needs to understand that women can do it.
- 14:58Speaker 1: We could not have released this movie week at a
- 15:01Speaker 1: better time. Correct, Absolutely, absolutely, I have one percent agree
- 15:07Speaker 1: with that. Awesome, but they well get off far. I
- 15:10Speaker 1: want to talk about your new album. Tell us about
- 15:11Speaker 1: the new album Young Ladies dropping April seventeen, so we
- 15:14Speaker 1: can get some old inspiration, get some old gospel love. Absolutely,
- 15:19Speaker 1: the album is coming out April seventeenth, and I'm really
- 15:23Speaker 1: excited about that. Apparently have a new single out Card
- 15:25Speaker 1: to Keep Happening, and the movie, the movie Opportunity, and
- 15:30Speaker 1: on the Macy partnership, how many other great things that
- 15:33Speaker 1: the Lord is doing. I just you know, the song
- 15:36Speaker 1: was inspired by that, and I just had to say
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know what great things are happening and keep happing
- 15:40Speaker 1: for me. UM, and I was. I'm just blacked by it.
- 15:43Speaker 1: So the new single is out and that's the message
- 15:46Speaker 1: of it is the songs that that is declaring UM
- 15:49Speaker 1: business and and and great possibilities over my life, over
- 15:54Speaker 1: my family's life. And so it's a song though that
- 15:57Speaker 1: everyone can relate to. Is you can make it your
- 15:59Speaker 1: declaration UM, and it looks like that's what we have
- 16:01Speaker 1: been doing. So it is. It's a special parting and
- 16:04Speaker 1: I can't wait for everyone to hear this new music again.
- 16:07Speaker 1: That's April seven, tenth, and the movie is coming out
- 16:09Speaker 1: April left. Okay, you mentioned that Macy's partiate partnership. A
- 16:12Speaker 1: lot of people are shopping online. Tell us about that
- 16:14Speaker 1: Macy's partnership. Yeah. So my clothing line, leven sixty is
- 16:20Speaker 1: a Curby line, a woman of a site, a line
- 16:23Speaker 1: for Curby women plus sized women, and um, it's available
- 16:27Speaker 1: on Macy's dot com. And I'm super excited about that opportunity.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And that's pretty much it. We did a pop up shop,
- 16:33Speaker 1: we're supposed to do another pop up shop. Because of
- 16:36Speaker 1: the current situation, we've not been able to UM. Yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I'm really looking for people online, and that's what the think.
- 16:44Speaker 1: People are shopping online, people are accepting deliveries at their
- 16:47Speaker 1: homes and their partners and their candles around the country,
- 16:50Speaker 1: and people still want to look good. So just so
- 16:53Speaker 1: that's why I didn't want to I'll be remissed to
- 16:56Speaker 1: say Macy's partnership and not bringing up in his interview,
- 16:58Speaker 1: because that's about body image. That's about women you know
- 17:02Speaker 1: who are curvy finding clothes that make them look good,
- 17:05Speaker 1: make them feel good, And that's what this show is
- 17:07Speaker 1: all about. Being able to point out and having honest
- 17:09Speaker 1: conversations with my guests and being correct if they feel
- 17:12Speaker 1: I've stepped too far in the definition of somebody that
- 17:15Speaker 1: they feel is important in their life to be able
- 17:17Speaker 1: to get that message out correctly. So with that being said,
- 17:20Speaker 1: April eleven, the movie premiers on Lifetime. The Clock Sisters.
- 17:24Speaker 1: April seventeen, the album drops right now, you're dealing with
- 17:28Speaker 1: a fantastic partnership with Macy's that you can go online
- 17:31Speaker 1: for your curvy uh clothing line. Correct, my dear, I

- 20:19Speaker 1: Dot ai. The natural hair market which is very important
- 20:23Speaker 1: to understand how it is, how it has exploded. She
- 20:27Speaker 1: founded the award winning hair care brand Curls as c
- 20:31Speaker 1: r u l s FU show you with the lack
- 20:33Speaker 1: of products for natural curly hair. She worked to develop
- 20:36Speaker 1: effective and echo conscious products for material designed for naturally
- 20:42Speaker 1: curly hair. Curls is an award winning leading and the
- 20:46Speaker 1: early business of curly hair design. Please welcome to money
- 20:49Speaker 1: making Conversations. My friend television personality Arthur Business out of
- 20:54Speaker 1: advocate and founder of Curls, as well as the CEO,
- 20:58Speaker 1: Misha Dillon Job. Thank you, thank you for having me. Well,
- 21:03Speaker 1: you know I always gotta get all that good stuff
- 21:05Speaker 1: out about you, Misha. You've got a long list of
- 21:08Speaker 1: things there. It's just it's just a uh, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: a statement about who you are. You know that you
- 21:15Speaker 1: are a versa little person and you know always talk
- 21:17Speaker 1: about you know, follow your gifts, follow your passions. But
- 21:20Speaker 1: it's not always just one gift. It's not always just
- 21:23Speaker 1: one passion. And let's let's talk about how you are
- 21:26Speaker 1: able to multi multitask these different lanes that are open
- 21:29Speaker 1: enough for you every day, sometimes simultaneously. How do you
- 21:33Speaker 1: how do you navigate that very very good question, um?
- 21:37Speaker 1: And it is really truly all about having the right
- 21:41Speaker 1: team uh in place, because I could not literally do
- 21:45Speaker 1: all of what I do without a good team. And
- 21:47Speaker 1: the team starts at home, so my mates. Obviously you
- 21:51Speaker 1: were going to choose your mates widely they can either
- 21:53Speaker 1: help you or hurt you. But also the team that
- 21:57Speaker 1: you already work with you, Um, I have an amazing
- 22:01Speaker 1: sets of dedicated business people who worked alongside me. So
- 22:06Speaker 1: that's what I'm able to do it all. We know,
- 22:08Speaker 1: like I would remember, so I always tell people some
- 22:10Speaker 1: of my story. When I started my comedy club, you know,
- 22:13Speaker 1: back in Houston, Texas, I was surrounded by my family members.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And first they were doing it for free, and then
- 22:19Speaker 1: he started seeing the checks come through the door. They went, hey,
- 22:22Speaker 1: we like to your little check to you know, which
- 22:26Speaker 1: I didn't budget, which I didn't budget for. I didn't
- 22:28Speaker 1: budget for the money that they wanted to to stand
- 22:31Speaker 1: at the door to take the tickets, the little things
- 22:34Speaker 1: I thought I took for granted in the relationship. And
- 22:36Speaker 1: so as you started to build your brand, Curls, I'm
- 22:39Speaker 1: sure there was some situation that came up where you
- 22:42Speaker 1: didn't expect to be part of your budget. And that's
- 22:45Speaker 1: important for people to understand that you when you start
- 22:47Speaker 1: a business. And and that's just me just making a statement,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and I would love for you to respond to what
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm saying. How do you really put together that budget
- 22:54Speaker 1: that you was trying to do when you're launching the
- 22:56Speaker 1: business or start are starting to do the budget planning part?
- 23:01Speaker 1: That's very important. Yeah, budget planning is important because if
- 23:04Speaker 1: you don't have all your costs and know what you're
- 23:06Speaker 1: gonna spend, you can easily use your shirt. So I
- 23:09Speaker 1: think most importantly, um, you need to get someone in
- 23:12Speaker 1: your life that can mentor you in the space that
- 23:15Speaker 1: you're in because they can help you see those unforeseen
- 23:19Speaker 1: costs you don't know about. So that was one of
- 23:21Speaker 1: the things I did early on. M got a mentor
- 23:23Speaker 1: that was actually in the hair care industry, and he
- 23:27Speaker 1: worked for one of the big consumer product good companies,
- 23:32Speaker 1: and he helped me a lot. So I was able
- 23:34Speaker 1: to number one save in areas because he connected me
- 23:37Speaker 1: to different people in his world. But he was also
- 23:40Speaker 1: able to show me what to expect and what I
- 23:42Speaker 1: expect and help me my budgeting. So that that's very critical,
- 23:45Speaker 1: especially as you start up. You can't have it, as
- 23:48Speaker 1: they said, you can't have these this inflated sense. So
- 23:51Speaker 1: I'll make I'll make a dollar, I keep a dollar
- 23:54Speaker 1: keep because it has to be giving up into a
- 23:58Speaker 1: lot of different ways. How big is your company right
- 24:00Speaker 1: now as far as staff wise, Well, we have over
- 24:05Speaker 1: two Curls ambassadors um and then we all over the
- 24:09Speaker 1: US and some international, and then we have twenty and
- 24:13Speaker 1: our local office, you know, we're here in Dallas, Texas,
- 24:17Speaker 1: and that's really really amazing. So so in two thousand
- 24:20Speaker 1: two you started the company. But prior to that, what
- 24:22Speaker 1: was the frustration of just having natural hair and not
- 24:25Speaker 1: having any products to deal with it before you start.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Before you launched a brand called Curls, which is a
- 24:30Speaker 1: great name by the way, right, well that was back before.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You know, we had a lot of options. I mean
- 24:36Speaker 1: the ethnic aisle back then was uh we we had
- 24:39Speaker 1: Jerry co products, relaxers, hair grease like nothing. I really
- 24:43Speaker 1: wanted Jerry Carol products that you're going away back now. Yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 1: they were still in the market and you can actually
- 24:51Speaker 1: still find something today, believe it or not. But yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 1: all the thing about the soften and carefree curl and yeah,
- 24:58Speaker 1: so I mean that's why have to use for a while,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you know, but it was so greasy and unnatural, but
- 25:04Speaker 1: then you would. But then when we look through the
- 25:05Speaker 1: journey of Masha Dillinger, uh, the whole concept of you know,
- 25:10Speaker 1: but you are a person, just a basic person because
- 25:13Speaker 1: you you are a former marketing executive that fortunate companies,
- 25:17Speaker 1: So you always had that ability to you know, plan
- 25:21Speaker 1: to be able to you know, put an idea concept
- 25:24Speaker 1: moving forward because marketing was your natural background. So correct.
- 25:27Speaker 1: So so I'm assuming that you started putting the plans
- 25:32Speaker 1: in place for Curls while you were still at your
- 25:36Speaker 1: full time job. That is correct. I had to. I
- 25:40Speaker 1: always always always mentor and subject. When I mentor, I
- 25:43Speaker 1: suggest um and and recommend that you keep your day
- 25:46Speaker 1: job until your side hustle becomes your main hustle and
- 25:49Speaker 1: you can no longer do both, so because you have
- 25:52Speaker 1: to keep money, and people want to just quit their
- 25:55Speaker 1: jobs and go in all you know before, and I
- 25:58Speaker 1: feel like that's that's great, eats but awesome and a
- 26:02Speaker 1: lot of faith, but it's not practical in some sense,
- 26:05Speaker 1: especially if you have responsibilities like um then you and
- 26:09Speaker 1: I have with a mother. So I always suggest doing
- 26:13Speaker 1: both until you can't do both anymore, and you have
- 26:15Speaker 1: a long history of success in the business that shows
- 26:19Speaker 1: you can actually maintain or lift off of that. And
- 26:21Speaker 1: still we invest back in the company, because if you're
- 26:23Speaker 1: just living on the salary but can't reinvest anything back
- 26:26Speaker 1: into the company, then that obviously will keep you sale
- 26:29Speaker 1: a segment right in the hair and later. But I know,
- 26:33Speaker 1: launching two thousand two curls a line of organic hair
- 26:36Speaker 1: care products for every type of curl at every at
- 26:39Speaker 1: any age, and you can never look back because of
- 26:42Speaker 1: the opportunities that is presented, not only for the people
- 26:45Speaker 1: who have been trying to find natural hair care products,
- 26:48Speaker 1: but also for people who have to find a comfort zone,
- 26:50Speaker 1: and also has changed the way people can come to work.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Now we've we've seen such a movement in natural hair care,
- 26:56Speaker 1: you know, because at times, you know, people are fighting
- 26:58Speaker 1: their right. Now in Joel Larger, they're passing laws that
- 27:01Speaker 1: you can't discriminate based on hair anymore. And she's not
- 27:05Speaker 1: ridiculous that we have to have a law to say that,
- 27:08Speaker 1: Like what goes out of my head, I have to
- 27:10Speaker 1: be protecting against discrimination the way it grows naturally. That's
- 27:14Speaker 1: just well when we can get upset about it. But
- 27:17Speaker 1: I think that I also know that you know, because
- 27:19Speaker 1: you have products like yours that they make the carrying
- 27:22Speaker 1: of the hair be the management management, making it more
- 27:25Speaker 1: manageable and more and more and more, you know, because
- 27:28Speaker 1: we are with the The thing about life is that
- 27:31Speaker 1: people who don't understand will discriminate. People who can't relate
- 27:34Speaker 1: with discriminate. And so when I when I I commend
- 27:37Speaker 1: a company like yours, I can be frustrated by the
- 27:39Speaker 1: way the system reacts to us. And I have to
- 27:42Speaker 1: react to us. I mean people of color, or people
- 27:44Speaker 1: are who are different, or people talk different or have
- 27:46Speaker 1: gender differences. But I also know that you have to
- 27:50Speaker 1: work within the system to be of your chief success.
- 27:52Speaker 1: And that's where your company is doing. And I have
- 27:55Speaker 1: to say that, you know, you were a visionary. This
- 27:58Speaker 1: is two thousand two, and I know out you know
- 28:01Speaker 1: how popular. You know, we have conventions now that are
- 28:04Speaker 1: just natural hair care conventions, and so that didn't happen
- 28:08Speaker 1: in two thousand two. My issue you have to say,
- 28:11Speaker 1: you know you you you you you, you created a
- 28:14Speaker 1: movement and and and I'm saying that, you know, sometimes
- 28:17Speaker 1: people like you who are so talented, who so just
- 28:20Speaker 1: geared to being successful. This is a deep breath moment. Hey,
- 28:25Speaker 1: my dear, thank you, thank you, thank you for sitting down,
- 28:30Speaker 1: you know, thank you for sitting down, thank you for
- 28:32Speaker 1: avoiding the naysayers. Thank you for saying, hey, I can
- 28:36Speaker 1: leave this company. I can. I know it's not a
- 28:40Speaker 1: clear plan for success because I always talking about people
- 28:42Speaker 1: who are tied to fear. You know, there's so many
- 28:44Speaker 1: people out there doing jobs and and that they don't
- 28:47Speaker 1: want to do because they're afraid if they get out
- 28:49Speaker 1: there they lose that that conference zone, that that consistent check,
- 28:53Speaker 1: and that consistent opportunity, But you, my friend, decided to Hey,
- 28:57Speaker 1: I could do more, I could be better. I could
- 28:59Speaker 1: be I can. I have a vision here. And to
- 29:03Speaker 1: make that transition to from corporate to everyday entrepreneur was
- 29:07Speaker 1: not an easy one. Can you explain that to our listeners? Yeah,
- 29:11Speaker 1: we definitely was easy. But what in life that worth
- 29:15Speaker 1: anything is easy? I don't think anything is and so
- 29:19Speaker 1: um being broke is that easy? No? Use your heart.
- 29:23Speaker 1: You use your heart. We can choose what we want
- 29:27Speaker 1: to do in our lives. We have the choice. And
- 29:30Speaker 1: I left Corporate America because I was facing corporacism, but
- 29:34Speaker 1: shortened my my ability to get to the top. I
- 29:37Speaker 1: really wanted to go to the top quickly, and they
- 29:39Speaker 1: really cut that in half of like, Okay, no, we
- 29:41Speaker 1: don't want to do we're not looking to promote you.
- 29:43Speaker 1: We're not looking to grow you. You're gonna be in
- 29:46Speaker 1: this position. People that were hired after me got promotive
- 29:50Speaker 1: before me. Then I got a racist manager who was
- 29:53Speaker 1: looking to get rid of me. I realized, Okay, this
- 29:55Speaker 1: is just not for me. I don't have the patients
- 29:57Speaker 1: for this. Someone that did dictate my life and that
- 30:00Speaker 1: is why I'm here. Who I am today, but I
- 30:04Speaker 1: want to say that, um, anything that's worth having is
- 30:07Speaker 1: going to be hard, and so I chose this hard
- 30:10Speaker 1: now that whole natural, natural instinct of marketing and branding
- 30:14Speaker 1: and getting your product out there. Tell us how they
- 30:16Speaker 1: can get your products well almost anywhere. So targets you
- 30:23Speaker 1: can find Curls the target near you, sally Mark, curl Biz,
- 30:32Speaker 1: or even be supply stores. Do you ever go in there?
- 30:37Speaker 1: You know, like I teached yearly on you know, I
- 30:38Speaker 1: walked into that, you know, because I shopped at Walgraint,
- 30:41Speaker 1: I shopped at CVS a lot and stuff like that.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Sometimes it's just going to get into medicine and the
- 30:45Speaker 1: farmer's department. And and I walked by and I see
- 30:48Speaker 1: your product and not just you know, does it still
- 30:51Speaker 1: just you look at it and go, wow, this is mine?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Did you? Does that still strike you as an amazing
- 30:59Speaker 1: moment in your life? You know that I get that
- 31:02Speaker 1: question sometimes and and you know, I'm a little bit
- 31:06Speaker 1: embarrassfied with the response, but it's really true. I don't
- 31:11Speaker 1: stop to smell the roads, but when I see the
- 31:13Speaker 1: products on the sholf, I don't go, oh my god,
- 31:15Speaker 1: that's so amazing. Umbo, which I should buy some more.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I think about what I have to still do we
- 31:23Speaker 1: have to welcome with them, do that and oh my god,
- 31:25Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna figure this that and so it's
- 31:28Speaker 1: constantly a moving target and so I do need to
- 31:33Speaker 1: stop snow the roses and then appreciate that. But honestly,
- 31:36Speaker 1: I am just moving and moving and moving. Well do
- 31:39Speaker 1: do do you have these testimonies where people are talking
- 31:41Speaker 1: about how, you know, growing their hair are the loss
- 31:44Speaker 1: of hair losses affects there, you know, just affects their dignity,
- 31:49Speaker 1: affects there are their confidence and and how this this, this, this,
- 31:55Speaker 1: this process is going to change their life, always affecting
- 31:57Speaker 1: their life in such a positive manner, going public aiding, socializing.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Do you have that part of the campaign as well? Well,
- 32:06Speaker 1: we we do. We highlight those when whenever we when
- 32:08Speaker 1: we get them in. But there are a lot of
- 32:10Speaker 1: women obviously who deal with alopecia, women who deal with
- 32:14Speaker 1: hair loss from hormonal changes, especially post pregnancy, um all
- 32:19Speaker 1: the different medication, you know, health issues beyond just aging,
- 32:24Speaker 1: you know, there are other things that can cause hair
- 32:26Speaker 1: growth issues and lack of self esteem. Our our hairs
- 32:29Speaker 1: are kind of glory. So yes, when whenever we get
- 32:32Speaker 1: those who, definitely highlight them, right, because I think that's
- 32:35Speaker 1: important because that's natural, that's a that's the honest because
- 32:38Speaker 1: we are in the business to make money. We are
- 32:41Speaker 1: in the business to make money. But when you when
- 32:43Speaker 1: you create something to create a format that also changes
- 32:46Speaker 1: lives and makes people give some confidence and make them
- 32:49Speaker 1: feel positive about how they opened the front door and
- 32:52Speaker 1: how people look at them, I think that needs to
- 32:53Speaker 1: also be highlighted. And that's what you're doing with the
- 32:56Speaker 1: growing Slate campaign. Correct, yes, yes, fully cool. Well, there
- 33:01Speaker 1: was something I wanted to bring up as well. All
- 33:03Speaker 1: it was in eighteen Uh you launched his Black Girls
- 33:06Speaker 1: Making Millions academy. Uh huh yeah, you know that. That
- 33:11Speaker 1: was to educate an uplift aspiring female entrepreneurs. Why and um,
- 33:17Speaker 1: what can I do to help promote that? Well, well,
- 33:21Speaker 1: thank you because soon as we launched the next one,
- 33:23Speaker 1: we'll definitely a circle back, so you can help promote it.
- 33:26Speaker 1: But what we launched that after I wrapped my show
- 33:28Speaker 1: on Own Mind Your Business, Mohitia, and we're helping women's
- 33:32Speaker 1: color um success and so Geo Graphic got lots of
- 33:36Speaker 1: requests to do one on one mentorship, which I obviously
- 33:39Speaker 1: didn't have the time to do. Everyone individually credit this
- 33:43Speaker 1: academy to help women of color that are in different
- 33:46Speaker 1: phases of entrepreneur path. UM started up to in a
- 33:49Speaker 1: business already but it and then nose the funding. We
- 33:52Speaker 1: had three different tracks and we credit a path to them,
- 33:55Speaker 1: connected them with the resources. Had a lot of breakout
- 33:58Speaker 1: sessions UM workshop conferences we had and we had it
- 34:03Speaker 1: was amazing, It was amazing. UM. We sold out. We
- 34:07Speaker 1: turned the switch on and told out and take it
- 34:09Speaker 1: in thirty minutes. So we knew that that was definitely
- 34:12Speaker 1: something that was gonna be UM impactful. And she's the
- 34:17Speaker 1: founder CEO of curls Uh Growing Slave Campaign And my friend,
- 34:22Speaker 1: you owe me a lot of but put you to
- 34:24Speaker 1: work as usual when you come on Money Making Conversation,
- 34:26Speaker 1: because the work I do for you is about, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: promoting your brand because you're such a positive, you're such
- 34:30Speaker 1: a role model, you're such a leader in the industry
- 34:33Speaker 1: that they called for it to be started and you
- 34:36Speaker 1: saw the vision that started in two thousand two and
- 34:38Speaker 1: natural hair care products. Again, always come on my show
- 34:41Speaker 1: knowing that you have a friend and Rashan McDonald and
- 34:43Speaker 1: keep listening to money making conversations. Okay, of course. Hi.
- 34:49Speaker 1: If you want to hear more interviewers or money making conversation,

- 36:29Speaker 1: Emmy Award winning, a Nuble, a cp Image Award winning actor,
- 36:33Speaker 1: or Ward winning Stage and television director, producer, humanitarian, and
- 36:38Speaker 1: cowboy and rodeo performer. That's the part I like the most.
- 36:41Speaker 1: His prolific career spans over fifty years, beginning as a
- 36:44Speaker 1: teenager acting in the New York on Broadway from Cooley High,
- 36:47Speaker 1: Different World, The Wire, Loved Him in The Wire, Fargo
- 36:50Speaker 1: to the the Franklin Projects. There's No stopping my man.
- 36:55Speaker 1: He's active in the community, in the entertainment game, currently

- 37:09Speaker 1: Please welcome to Money Making Conversation. Glenn Terman. Hey, how
- 37:14Speaker 1: you doing pretty good? My friend? I left that h
- 37:17Speaker 1: Off dinner. There you go, breath that brother, Just just
- 37:29Speaker 1: just kick that little that little math degree after got
- 37:32Speaker 1: the window there. And you know when when you look
- 37:35Speaker 1: at a guy like you that has done so many
- 37:40Speaker 1: rememberable characters. So I'm gonna say this, remember especially we
- 37:43Speaker 1: go back to Cooley guy. That's like the classic, classic,
- 37:46Speaker 1: classic black movie in the era when Black Exports Station
- 37:50Speaker 1: was dominating the movie screens back then, Can you summon
- 37:54Speaker 1: to your career before we really get into it, because
- 37:56Speaker 1: I really want people, you know, we have to say
- 37:58Speaker 1: you are a legend. You are a person that inspired
- 38:02Speaker 1: your inspiration. Um, you're a uh you have a guy
- 38:05Speaker 1: who sat down to say I can make a career
- 38:07Speaker 1: out of this, and you have made a career out
- 38:09Speaker 1: of it. Tell us about your your your your take
- 38:12Speaker 1: on your career. And we know it's not done. First
- 38:15Speaker 1: of all, it's not an obituary, so but it is
- 38:18Speaker 1: an amazing journey. It is an amazing journey. Well I'll
- 38:23Speaker 1: tell you first of all, thank you for for all
- 38:25Speaker 1: the kind words, uh that you used to describe me.
- 38:29Speaker 1: And uh the second thing is that all of the
- 38:33Speaker 1: listening to you uh point out those those things, uh
- 38:40Speaker 1: made me stay to myself. I never thought or tried
- 38:43Speaker 1: to achieve any of those accolades that you just heaped
- 38:47Speaker 1: upon me. I was I'm just a young kid from Holland,
- 38:53Speaker 1: New York who had an opportunity to to do something
- 38:58Speaker 1: and be a part of something that was extraordinary area.
- 39:00Speaker 1: It's not that I went seeking seeking it. It sort
- 39:03Speaker 1: of found me. And uh, you know, I was blessed
- 39:07Speaker 1: to have people around me who continued to nourish me
- 39:11Speaker 1: once they saw that I had a talent um. I
- 39:15Speaker 1: kind of took things for granted, you know, as most
- 39:18Speaker 1: young people will so so uh you know, mentors kept
- 39:23Speaker 1: me on the path, and uh, you know, from from
- 39:27Speaker 1: people in in high school, which is what I went
- 39:30Speaker 1: to with the high school Performing Arts. You know, remember
- 39:32Speaker 1: the movie Fame that was yeah, that's that was actually
- 39:37Speaker 1: the year that they're talking about in that movie is
- 39:41Speaker 1: the year that uh my graduating year. And uh so
- 39:46Speaker 1: I knew a lot of the characters and there was
- 39:48Speaker 1: a wonderful teacher there by the name of Vannette Carroll,
- 39:51Speaker 1: who uh kept me in school and and focused and
- 39:57Speaker 1: uh and guided me. And they really brought me to California.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Nick Carroll did too, forming a play here and here's
- 40:06Speaker 1: where I stayed. But to your point, my career has
- 40:12Speaker 1: has been really kind of, uh just a blessing, you know,
- 40:18Speaker 1: because so much has happened that I never would have
- 40:21Speaker 1: thought would have happened. I just look at myself as
- 40:23Speaker 1: a as a blue collar actor, you know, just get
- 40:26Speaker 1: my lunch bucket, I get my lunch bucket, I get
- 40:29Speaker 1: a call and go to work. I go to work,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I do my job, I come home, you know that
- 40:35Speaker 1: kind of thing, you know what I'm saying. But the
- 40:37Speaker 1: all the accolades and other things that come with it
- 40:40Speaker 1: were like, wow, this comes with with doing what you love,
- 40:44Speaker 1: you know. Uh So, and I think that's probably the
- 40:47Speaker 1: main ingredient, is that I love doing what I'm doing.
- 40:51Speaker 1: I still do. Well. That's that's the impression I've always gotten,
- 40:53Speaker 1: you know, from every project I've seen. One of my
- 40:56Speaker 1: favorites was The House of Lives and uh, you know,
- 41:00Speaker 1: when you played the sexy grandfather your father and you know,
- 41:04Speaker 1: with the young with the young lady. I'm just I'm
- 41:08Speaker 1: feeling you on that role. Also lines with cheat and
- 41:11Speaker 1: Lawrenz Larens his character man made mad so many times. Yeah,
- 41:22Speaker 1: that was that was the French benefits of this, you know,
- 41:25Speaker 1: getting the work of opposite beautiful to young ladies like
- 41:29Speaker 1: like that and uh have a great time with friends,
- 41:32Speaker 1: you know, Lawrence Larenz Tate, you know, and I go
- 41:37Speaker 1: way back to uh go back to inkwell absolutely though, yeah,
- 41:42Speaker 1: you know that that that was really interesting when I
- 41:43Speaker 1: when I when I talk about these you know, you're
- 41:46Speaker 1: you know, I always always looked at it. I can't.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I did stand up comedy. I'm an excellent writer. Man
- 41:52Speaker 1: is great talent and can you do it well? Thank you?
- 41:54Speaker 1: Do it? Do it all well, thank you. But But
- 41:57Speaker 1: when I when I when I look at the talent
- 41:59Speaker 1: like you, let's just let's talk about you know, I
- 42:01Speaker 1: was joking it because I really did. Whenever I see you,
- 42:05Speaker 1: you you make me smile, Glenn, And that's that's something,
- 42:08Speaker 1: you know, When I see you make me smile. You know,
- 42:10Speaker 1: when I watched the movie Justine, which is running right
- 42:12Speaker 1: now on Netflix, you make me smile with your character
- 42:15Speaker 1: when you when you when you want to meet with
- 42:17Speaker 1: the with the therapists, and then you closed the door,
- 42:21Speaker 1: and it was like, is he acting? You know, he's
- 42:24Speaker 1: just being normal, because this is pretty normal to me
- 42:28Speaker 1: what he's doing. And and when you when you get
- 42:31Speaker 1: that good and when you get that good, it seems
- 42:34Speaker 1: like these motions are just everyday life motions that it
- 42:37Speaker 1: should you're function in life. And so that's what happened
- 42:40Speaker 1: when I when when I loved you in the Wire,
- 42:43Speaker 1: which was good, such a such a fascinating, uh cultural story,
- 42:52Speaker 1: and he was right there playing a realistic character that
- 42:57Speaker 1: I've had sympathy for that um maybe mad sometimes, but
- 43:03Speaker 1: but but it isn't that the role of an actor
- 43:05Speaker 1: to protue to to pull these emotions out of an audience. Yes,
- 43:10Speaker 1: it is. That's that's our job, you know. That's that's
- 43:12Speaker 1: what we're supposed to be able to hold up a
- 43:14Speaker 1: mirror so that you can see yourself as well as
- 43:18Speaker 1: others that you know in the characters that we play,
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know. And uh so that's that's what we get
- 43:23Speaker 1: paid to do. And that's a that's a wonderful thing.
- 43:25Speaker 1: And then, like I said, I wanted to go back
- 43:28Speaker 1: to the House of Lives, because when you're around talented people,
- 43:32Speaker 1: it kind of does. It doesn't force you or cause
- 43:35Speaker 1: you to step your game up, and not saying that
- 43:37Speaker 1: you never you don't step up your game. You know
- 43:38Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I'm not alway don't want to step
- 43:42Speaker 1: but you're all done you And I'll tell man, it
- 43:45Speaker 1: was some times. It was sometimes, man, that lore is
- 43:48Speaker 1: a character. Liver is take character. I was so mad
- 43:50Speaker 1: and you when you take up for him. Serious Larenz
- 43:57Speaker 1: is just sitting over there watching TV all day. Don't
- 44:00Speaker 1: want Cactus out there compete with these people. And then
- 44:06Speaker 1: the dad coming out saw saying, up with the young
- 44:09Speaker 1: Philly in the bedroom. Uh uh, you know, coming now,
- 44:15Speaker 1: your brother trying, he trying, didn't try, did try, but
- 44:27Speaker 1: but but ain't that the way it is? I can't
- 44:34Speaker 1: tell you, my mama, baby, you gotta cut the cars.
- 44:39Speaker 1: Don't you give one of the cars to your sister?
- 44:42Speaker 1: Huh yeah, okay, just because they had a couple of
- 44:45Speaker 1: they don't use Now they used cars. Now your boy
- 44:48Speaker 1: wasn't bawling at the time, all right, but they were
- 44:50Speaker 1: my car. My mama comes over to me, well, you
- 44:53Speaker 1: got two cars don't you get one to your sister? Okay,
- 44:56Speaker 1: you need a car? Need she need a car? Need
- 44:59Speaker 1: a car? So I can find that moment relatable because
- 45:02Speaker 1: it didn't make any sense to me. And guess what
- 45:04Speaker 1: she did. She wrecked it. It was it was a napty.
- 45:13Speaker 1: He sent it to Green and Grimbling with no radio.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Still but it still still her because I can tell
- 45:24Speaker 1: you it's green, I can tell you it's no radio,
- 45:27Speaker 1: and I can tell you it was Naty sending too.
- 45:29Speaker 1: I paid nine hundred dollars for that cat. My sister
- 45:35Speaker 1: went out there wrecked it. I come home and see
- 45:38Speaker 1: on the sofa and she in the sofa next to
- 45:40Speaker 1: my mom. Baby, your mama, Your mama going to say
- 45:44Speaker 1: with you, baby, I got something I want to tell you.
- 45:48Speaker 1: And So when I was going through that, when I
- 45:50Speaker 1: was looking, when I whenever I saw you interact between
- 45:53Speaker 1: them two, I just thought back to my mom. I said, boy,
- 45:57Speaker 1: if I didn't heard this character in real life story
- 46:02Speaker 1: work for somebody who's trapling right right right. But see,
- 46:07Speaker 1: that's that's that's that's that's uh, the pleasure of working
- 46:11Speaker 1: with people who are good at the job. We have
- 46:13Speaker 1: great writers on that show. Lives, you know, and you
- 46:17Speaker 1: know you have to step your game up. You're working
- 46:19Speaker 1: with Don Cheeta, you gotta step your game and you
- 46:21Speaker 1: got to bring your a game every day. Go down
- 46:23Speaker 1: as a beast. He's a beast. He's a beast as
- 46:28Speaker 1: well as as well as they were in States. But
- 46:31Speaker 1: the people the thing that's wonderful, uh with that. I
- 46:35Speaker 1: love it that I've been able to work with wonderful,
- 46:38Speaker 1: wonderful people. You know. I started working within the business
- 46:41Speaker 1: working with the top of the line with Sydney Portier
- 46:43Speaker 1: and Bob d Lucas, you know, vision production of a
- 46:48Speaker 1: Raising the Sun on Broadway. So that's where I started.
- 46:51Speaker 1: So you know, I'm always uh looking to work with
- 46:57Speaker 1: the best that I can work with, you know, because
- 46:59Speaker 1: they bring the stout of you. You know. The cast
- 47:03Speaker 1: of the Wine was fantastic, was amazing. Everybody in that
- 47:06Speaker 1: cast was just you know, it's always amazing that you know,
- 47:11Speaker 1: we all know that. If you don't know this interest Elba.
- 47:14Speaker 1: He came from the line. He made he made a
- 47:18Speaker 1: drug dealer likable, He made a drug dealer popular. He
- 47:23Speaker 1: made a drug dealer who who when he died, we
- 47:27Speaker 1: was mad. Yeah, come on, get up, Get up, man,
- 47:34Speaker 1: My wife screamed so loud. I don't know. I love
- 47:41Speaker 1: talking to you, man, It's like talking to my uncle
- 47:43Speaker 1: Jail either. Were just laughing and talking to just sharing
- 47:46Speaker 1: stories because because he here's a deal with because you know,
- 47:51Speaker 1: he got shot on and that high rise right there
- 47:54Speaker 1: was under construction, and so so when he got shot,
- 47:57Speaker 1: I'm talking about interest Capital. You know when you got
- 48:00Speaker 1: shot shrinker Bell, I don't remember name. Stringer Bell was
- 48:03Speaker 1: his character. I kept saying, he gotta get up. No,
- 48:12Speaker 1: nobody was ready. America was not ready for him to
- 48:15Speaker 1: be dead because because in the way the character was built. Okay,
- 48:20Speaker 1: you know he was a drug dealer, but he wanted
- 48:23Speaker 1: to be more. You know, he educated himself, you know,
- 48:26Speaker 1: and and that's where that's when I when when when
- 48:30Speaker 1: you talk about not only here, there's just a lot
- 48:32Speaker 1: of fantastic people who are working busily working today off
- 48:37Speaker 1: of that series The Wife. That's the amazing thing about
- 48:41Speaker 1: that series. But I wanted to I wantn't to step
- 48:43Speaker 1: back a little bit here, Glenn and get into him. Yeah,
- 48:47Speaker 1: where were you born Glenn? And married in Manhattan? In Manhattan.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I'm trying to get to this, Uh, this rodeo cowboy thinkers.
- 49:00Speaker 1: They told me about that. J J said, you know
- 49:03Speaker 1: he does, he has a rodeo. Yeah, I'm with the
- 49:05Speaker 1: Bill Picking Rodeo. Lupaside, who was the founder of the
- 49:08Speaker 1: Bill Picking Rodeo, asked me and to be a part
- 49:12Speaker 1: of it. Uh that many years ago. And I found
- 49:15Speaker 1: a home there and that's a family and been there
- 49:18Speaker 1: ever since. Okay, see not just stop him say I
- 49:21Speaker 1: love when people like you start talking, because you miss
- 49:24Speaker 1: all of them steps. You know, hallm bar hallo. Now
- 49:28Speaker 1: he's in Los Angeles here, rodeo king. Because see that
- 49:33Speaker 1: never asked me to be the Grand Marshal Ambassador any rodeo.
- 49:37Speaker 1: So that means that you have to have had a
- 49:39Speaker 1: skill set, a showcase, a moment on a horse, a
- 49:44Speaker 1: rope or something. So tell us how did you develop
- 49:46Speaker 1: that skill and how did you get into horses? And
- 49:48Speaker 1: then we're gonna get over to the camp. Gette up. Okay, Well,
- 49:52Speaker 1: you know, first of all, the true answer is that's
- 49:59Speaker 1: the true answer. Yeah, the truth is it's in my blood.
- 50:03Speaker 1: But like it's in so many of us, of of
- 50:05Speaker 1: of people of colors blood. You know, we don't associate
- 50:08Speaker 1: ourselves with that kind of lifestyle. But you know, we
- 50:12Speaker 1: were We came over from Africa, where you know, there
- 50:17Speaker 1: were great horsemen there, and here my grand grand my
- 50:21Speaker 1: grandfather whom I didn't even know. On my father's side,
- 50:25Speaker 1: I didn't I never met him. He was dead before
- 50:27Speaker 1: I was born. Uh. He was a farmer and had
- 50:33Speaker 1: horses and mules and all that. So my daddy grew
- 50:36Speaker 1: up raised, you know, raised around that kind of life.
- 50:39Speaker 1: And my daddy moved from from Georgia to Chicago and
- 50:45Speaker 1: New York to get away from that lifestyle. Now, like
- 50:51Speaker 1: so many of us, you know, especially back in the day,
- 50:53Speaker 1: I wasn't raised as a young man with my father around,
- 50:58Speaker 1: you know. So I went in this direction on my
- 51:03Speaker 1: own of buying horses or riding horses and getting into
- 51:07Speaker 1: the land and buying land. And once I got the California,
- 51:11Speaker 1: coming from a small, small, three bedroom, a one bedroom
- 51:15Speaker 1: apartment in New York City, uh to uh ranch in
- 51:21Speaker 1: Los Angeles, California. Thank God for the blessing. Uh. But
- 51:26Speaker 1: I didn't know where that love of the land and
- 51:28Speaker 1: the earth came from where, But I was. I was
- 51:32Speaker 1: drawn to it. I was always drawn to it, even
- 51:34Speaker 1: when I was living in the New York I spent
- 51:37Speaker 1: a lot of time in Central Park. I go to
- 51:39Speaker 1: Central Park and clean the stalls at the horse stable
- 51:42Speaker 1: in Central Park in order to ride the horse for free.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Let me, Mr, if you let me clean that stall. Uh,
- 51:48Speaker 1: I'll clean that stall if you let me ride your horse.
- 51:51Speaker 1: And I shovel horse. And he said, go ahead do that.
- 51:55Speaker 1: You know. That's how badly I wanted to do that.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And once I got the Alifornia and then started, you know,
- 52:02Speaker 1: in the business, and the business was kind to me
- 52:04Speaker 1: enough to to, uh, to to put some duccets in
- 52:07Speaker 1: my pocket that I could do something with in terms
- 52:10Speaker 1: of fulfilling some dreams. That became a part of one
- 52:13Speaker 1: of the dreams I wanted to fulfill, you know. And
- 52:16Speaker 1: so then I little did I know that that desire
- 52:21Speaker 1: was in my DNA. You see what I'm saying. So
- 52:27Speaker 1: that's the true answer, you know, that's the that's that's
- 52:30Speaker 1: the real ass, that's an honest ass, that's the gift.
- 52:32Speaker 1: That's the passion that I would always tell people who
- 52:35Speaker 1: come on the show, people who are listening to the show,
- 52:37Speaker 1: is that we deny ourself a lot of dreams and
- 52:39Speaker 1: a lot of great moments because we go, uh, that
- 52:42Speaker 1: ain't me or what would people think about if I
- 52:44Speaker 1: started doing that? And that's why, you know, you know,
- 52:49Speaker 1: I joke and I'd laugh about but the whole rodeo thing.
- 52:52Speaker 1: But man, I'm in awe that you know that you're
- 52:56Speaker 1: doing that in the world where can be so superficial.
- 53:01Speaker 1: And then not only Dad, but you tell us about
- 53:03Speaker 1: your camp getee Up because I'm sure it's tied to
- 53:06Speaker 1: the horse environment, the rodeo lifestyle, the outdoor lifestyle the
- 53:10Speaker 1: young people need to be familiar with. Because my daughter,
- 53:12Speaker 1: she's twenty two, she's not gonna go anywhere without her
- 53:16Speaker 1: phone and she she walks to YouTube. She got screen
- 53:19Speaker 1: on the wall. She's looking at her phone. So that
- 53:21Speaker 1: doesn't even need anything. So tell us about that experience
- 53:24Speaker 1: and what is what is the purpose of Camp getee Up. Well,
- 53:28Speaker 1: it's one of the things growing up and growing up
- 53:31Speaker 1: in New York and being from home and uh, you know,
- 53:36Speaker 1: there's a lot of distractions back in the back in
- 53:39Speaker 1: the you're set in the city, and uh, it was
- 53:42Speaker 1: no different than any other young teenager ready to get
- 53:44Speaker 1: him getting into some of that mess that was going on,
- 53:47Speaker 1: you know, and my mother and an attempt to my mother,
- 53:51Speaker 1: an attempt to steer me away from the wrong elements,
- 53:54Speaker 1: sent my butt to camp one summer set me kicking
- 53:58Speaker 1: and screaming, you know I want to go because I
- 54:00Speaker 1: knew that that's that's summer. I had big plans to
- 54:05Speaker 1: get my first jade. They used to call that. You
- 54:07Speaker 1: used to get three j j D cause juvel out
- 54:10Speaker 1: the Linqui cards back in the day. You know if
- 54:13Speaker 1: you got if you got your third juven out of
- 54:15Speaker 1: Linquent card, then you they were gonna send you to
- 54:17Speaker 1: the reformatory. Absolutely. But and so I was working on
- 54:20Speaker 1: getting my first one, and that summer I knew I
- 54:23Speaker 1: was gonna get that first time. I love your story telling,
- 54:29Speaker 1: you need to see you need to the podcast stories
- 54:32Speaker 1: by and I knew I was gonna get that card.
- 54:38Speaker 1: All of us, me and my boys was working on that.
- 54:40Speaker 1: A couple of more already had two or three because
- 54:43Speaker 1: but I knew I was gonna get mine, and my
- 54:45Speaker 1: mother mustn't do it too. And she sent me to
- 54:47Speaker 1: this thing on camp. And I got the camp, getting
- 54:51Speaker 1: the wild outdoors and all that and the campfires and
- 54:54Speaker 1: all the fun that was having a lake and the
- 54:56Speaker 1: canoeing and all that stuff, and I loved it. I said, down, God,
- 55:01Speaker 1: this is great. I told my mom, boy, I want
- 55:04Speaker 1: to go back next year. She said, well, you keep
- 55:06Speaker 1: your in school, stop playing hooky, get your grades up
- 55:08Speaker 1: in YadA YadA YadA, and then I'll send you back
- 55:11Speaker 1: next year. So the dog going that she found her
- 55:14Speaker 1: hook for me, you know, right, you know what I meant. Shoot,
- 55:22Speaker 1: you know, so I found the reason. I found a
- 55:24Speaker 1: ready to reason to say no to the rest of
- 55:26Speaker 1: the stuff that you know, the guys is getting ready
- 55:29Speaker 1: to get into. Come on, man, let's go do this.
- 55:31Speaker 1: You don't have to go and uh no, man, I
- 55:34Speaker 1: can't mess this up. I got a plans I wanted to. Well,
- 55:38Speaker 1: I to myself later, I said, well, let that work
- 55:41Speaker 1: for me. That might work for some of these little
- 55:44Speaker 1: knocking heads out here, you know, in the street. And
- 55:49Speaker 1: I've been blessed. I've been blessed to to, you know,
- 55:52Speaker 1: make some of my dreams come true. My wife and
- 55:55Speaker 1: I have gotten who was the camper also, by uh
- 56:00Speaker 1: she grew up going to camps out here in California,
- 56:04Speaker 1: so she understood the value of her camp and the outdoors.
- 56:10Speaker 1: And uh so when I got my piece of land,
- 56:13Speaker 1: and I said, you know, one of the things we
- 56:15Speaker 1: can do with this place is provide a space for
- 56:18Speaker 1: kids to see something different to stars, you know, ride horses,
- 56:22Speaker 1: you know, swimming upon you know, take hikes and so
- 56:25Speaker 1: on and so forth in door stuff that you do
- 56:27Speaker 1: at camp. Just get away for a breather, Uh, get
- 56:31Speaker 1: away from the city. And I promised. What happened was
- 56:33Speaker 1: I promised Coretta Scott King that that's what I was
- 56:37Speaker 1: going to do with it. Was started camp because this
- 56:41Speaker 1: was in ninety two and we just had to Rodney
- 56:45Speaker 1: King's civil unrest and Coretta Scott King had called a
- 56:50Speaker 1: lot of the community leaders into UH conference in Atlanta
- 56:56Speaker 1: and asked us what did we think we could do
- 56:58Speaker 1: to help heal the city and some of the unrest.
- 57:03Speaker 1: And that was my contribution. My wife and I as contribution,
- 57:06Speaker 1: came up with it on the spot. And uh, my
- 57:10Speaker 1: wife said, how are we gonna do this? You know?
- 57:11Speaker 1: And I said, I don't know. But I was doing
- 57:13Speaker 1: a Different World at the time of the series of
- 57:15Speaker 1: Different World and so I went, I asked Sinbad, and
- 57:18Speaker 1: I asked Don Lewis and Jasmine and Cadem I said, hey,
- 57:23Speaker 1: y'all chip in some books. I'm going to try and
- 57:25Speaker 1: do something up at the ranch. And they did, and uh,
- 57:29Speaker 1: we were able to start to start a camping that
- 57:31Speaker 1: was twenty seven years. Congratulations that you know, that's a
- 57:35Speaker 1: difference maker of what you do. And then people when
- 57:38Speaker 1: you called on your friends and you has a hot show,
- 57:41Speaker 1: a different world, and you know that story has never
- 57:43Speaker 1: been told and on my show, and it needs to
- 57:46Speaker 1: be told. The stories like that need to be told
- 57:48Speaker 1: because all you know, celebrities are sports figures. All you
- 57:51Speaker 1: hear about is the next movie. All you hear about
- 57:53Speaker 1: is the next score, the next touchdown, the next championship.
- 57:56Speaker 1: But it's what you do in the community, the paying
- 57:59Speaker 1: it forward such a big difference. And that's why I
- 58:01Speaker 1: wanted to make sure people understood, you know what you're
- 58:04Speaker 1: doing camp Thank you. Let me tell you something. You know.
- 58:08Speaker 1: First of all, you know, we've been having a great
- 58:10Speaker 1: time and and and we're all we're gonna have a
- 58:12Speaker 1: great time because guess what, I'm gonna admire of your talents.
- 58:15Speaker 1: I admire your gifts. I'm a person has been seeing
- 58:18Speaker 1: you all far. You know, I met you several times.
- 58:20Speaker 1: It's not I'm not insulted that you don't remember me.
- 58:22Speaker 1: That doesn't bother me. I'm just letting you know I
- 58:24Speaker 1: have met you, brother. I can point out your house.
- 58:28Speaker 1: I can tell you I could drive your house right now.
- 58:32Speaker 1: That's just that's I ain't gonna give no more. I
- 58:36Speaker 1: ain't gonna give no more. But that's I'm gonna gil
- 58:40Speaker 1: because like a little everybody know, because everybody know what
- 58:44Speaker 1: I've been. You know I'm still I'm still here, absolutely, people,
- 58:48Speaker 1: I digress. Let's go back to you. Why you really
- 58:51Speaker 1: called the called me over here just having this little
- 58:53Speaker 1: fun conversation, Justine. I saw the movie on Netflix, you
- 58:57Speaker 1: executive producers from just from that that factory called able
- 59:02Speaker 1: don a bad But I just saw that Chairs Your Life, boy,
- 59:13Speaker 1: Chairs Your Day. Oh my god, I don't even talk
- 59:15Speaker 1: about that. Let's let's talk about Justine. Let's talk about
- 59:19Speaker 1: a moving piece. Because one of the stars of the
- 59:23Speaker 1: series was physically disabled and then you physically. This is
- 59:28Speaker 1: why I like that. This is what my take on him.
- 59:30Speaker 1: You had the lead characters were disabled in different ways.
- 59:34Speaker 1: One was emotionally disabled and then one was physically disabled,
- 59:39Speaker 1: and then they will put together in this series to
- 59:42Speaker 1: see how they will interact and deal with their their
- 59:45Speaker 1: their their personal crisis, their growth. And and then you
- 59:49Speaker 1: had you in the middle, and you those two child actors. Fantastic.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, Oh my goodness, those two child act
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: that little boy. Don't tell them. You know, when when
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I be watching, because I've been fortunate, you're talking about
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: the two kids who played my grandkids. And yes, yes, yeah,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: they're they're they're wonderful, as well as the girl who
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: played the disabled. All of the fantastic. But when I
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: when I watched scripts, I've done enough scripts. I've written scripts.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: When I see extra that's being added in a natural state,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: I go, and these little kids who played your grandkids,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I went, they get it, they understand, they are fearless
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: and they're natural at it. And so that's their gift.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: You know, they might go to a college degree. But
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: bor right there, I saw their gifts. They might become
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: teenagers and I don't want to act anyone. That's their right.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: The boy, when I saw in this movie and you
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: executive produced it, what were you part of the casting process?
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: To Glenn, No, I must say that I was not.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I was not. That was all step Nick Turner Let's
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Pieces Justine Uh was written, directed, produced, and stars Stephanie Turner,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: who is the the daughter of is the football coach
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: for the Redskins Dallas Cowards of coordinator genius. Yes. Yes,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: and she as an actress who was tired of not
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: getting the roles that she wanted uh, you know, and
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: finding that women were not giving the opportunities they're going
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: to play the characters and the depths that she thought
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: should be uh put on the screen. And so she
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: took it upon herself to put this piece together and
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: saw me on um as I was doing a spin
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: on How to Get Away with Murder series and she
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: called my asking if I would be interested in being
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: part of the script. It was a small independent movie,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: low budget, and she was hoping that I would be
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: able to, you know, to see something in it enough
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: to want me to be a part of it. And Uh,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: I did as soon as I read it. You know,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: it's a wonderful, wonderful story. Like you said that, you know,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: the handicapped characters uh uh in their conditions in so
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: many different ways, and that was really a student to
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: put it like that, and they're going to put it
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: like that before and I was I was, I was.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: I was embraced by the movie premise, I was I
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: understood her loss because the fact that you could not
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: understand it, but which is great for the character, because
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: frustration is led by tell me what's wrong. Sometimes you
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: can't tell people's wrong, you know, and like the like
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: the like the therapist told you, look, leave her along. Yeah, right,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: you you're trying to make something happen, but let it
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: apple in its natural course. And you know everybody tries
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: to sometimes people in general, people do that. That's what
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: leads to frustration. You know. Sometimes I asked my daughter
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: to come quick, she might not come as quick as
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I won't. Then I get frustrated. What's the problem here?
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Did you hear it? It's the same thing. This movie
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: is about challenging the process, challenging racism, challenging living it
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: or working in an environment that you really don't want
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: to be in, but you deal with frustrated. And then
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: when somebody asked to hear the truth, guess what it
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: can come out of like a hot ball of water.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: And that's what it did. And uh, but I just
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: like to say my my my main thing and bringing
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: on the show Glynn first of all was just to
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: introduce myself to you, tell you I'm a friend. Secondly,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: let you know that the impact that you have and
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: we'll have in this industry is a blessing. Um this movie, Justine,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: as soon as they told me you was book for
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the show, I immediately watched it and jaw all it.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I got my wife to watch it. She enjoyed it.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: And so that's a little absolutely absolutely absolutely you know,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: you know because it's your body of work. But like
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I said, my favorite scene in that movie was when
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: you when you was when you when when you was
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: with the therapist and you closed that door. That to me,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I mean, this guy, I don't know if he is
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: he acting now or he just being in set. And
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: that's the beauty of your skill, Glenn. And don't change.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: And let me ask you one question. Don't don't forget.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Don't forget the uh um this this this situation here,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: it shut us down like it did all of Hollywood.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: You're talking about the movie you No, No, I'm talking
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: about Fargo. Actually absolutely absolutely yeah, this rock and doing
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: us tenting on farg On great. When do you guys
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: see Chris and this serious role. It's really really something
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: that I'm looking forward to. Yeah, they coming to the
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: Force season the Fargo. Yes you played. Dr Singer absolutely said,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: Washing produced adaptation to August Wilson Award winning Maul Rainey's
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Black Bottom. You know you got to, man, look at
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: you busy. You're busy. You know when you have time

- 1:08:51Speaker 1: but thank you for coming on the show. Yes, thank you.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: That's your energy I needed today. Well, it's good you
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: need it because first of all, it's a career. I
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: want to bring people on the money main conversation. You know,
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: they have success in their lives, and you have continued
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: success and very in a very difficult business and as entertainment. Uh,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: you and a guy you know, I left IBM and
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: to pursue a career as a stand up comic and
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: then became a sitcom writer on television shows. That doesn't
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: mean that that television show is gonna go twenty two
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: episodes or eight episodes or ten episodes ago two years
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: or three years. So you always operate in the environment
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: of uncertainty. So, but but your career, let's go back
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: to where it kind of started. HBCU North Carolina talk
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: about that experience A little, you know, a little a
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: little little black girl, you know. And during a lot
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: of talk about the big dreams, and you know, when
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: you're talking when I would call Durham a small top
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: but it's not a big city. And when you're talking
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: about big dreams, how did you manage to believe they
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: were possible from your environment? Who? You know? Hey, listen,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: let me let listen to break it down. Let's strick
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: it all down with God. All takes possible. And you know,
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: you know again from a small town, Uh, you know,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: I was, I was rooted uh and and and God
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: and the possitilities that the universe can can send your way.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: And hey, I was a small town thrilled with their dreams.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: And I just, uh, I chose career. It did really
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: excuse me. The career kind of chose me. And uh
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: and I and we've been sell in love with each other,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: and uh and I just didn't quick I persevered, you know.
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: And I know that's kind of cliche, but it's it's
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: one of those things that you stick something long enough,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: you'll find desist in it if you're a passion for it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: And I have a passion for it, and and I
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: just thanks to to get small town to term I did,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: thanks to Hillside High School, thanks to UM and I
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: just get thank you to to to those people who
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: poured into me in a little small town and threw
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: my mom and my church Shamply and the rectations that
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: are there. And uh, I'm I'm just grateful talking to
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: you and still still being able to live my dream
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: and I still have still much more to do. UM
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: and I can't wait to see what the universe holes. Man. Well,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: well let's talking about this current universe. You know, if
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: loving you is wrong? Network? You know what I'm saying,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: own network. Tyler Pairy produced because you know it's gonna
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: be selicious because I watched all his shows. You know,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: I am a Tyler Perry nut. Okay, now, thank you,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: let's talk about this. Thank you, this show here, I'm
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: gonna let you tell everybody about the show it did.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Rou Sean McDonald go come back and give his version. Okay.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Do you know it's gonna be a little information, you know,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: let your boy, let you know your boy is and
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: love what you're doing and and love with this show.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: So set us up. I'll tell us about to do it.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep it short because I'm really excited to
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: hear your take on it. I could, I could, I
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: could always shave a little bit of the talk show.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I just have to take you have to experience it.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: So this show, like you said, action, Uh, it's it's
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: about the lines of these five friends. We live in
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: the town polled next thing. They're all from somewhat different
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: walks of life. Um, but they live in the town
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: where there's a drama that ensues every day. But that
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: drama is affairs, murder, uh, scandal, all the things you
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: tould think of when it comes to drama. This distal
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: small town has endured it by character who I play.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: I'm one of the Sis ladies and name is baddily Hitting.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: I would say Mamber is probably one of the more
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: little up five. And I say that in respect to that.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: She she she's one of the more relatable characters. Um,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: I like that kind of knows you though, you kind
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: of kind of knows the and and protective, almost crassic.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I like a catechult. I told more as protective care.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: You know what I'm trying. I'm saying, I'm being here
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: rand you know I'm saying right right really cut. It
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: needs a sure children, children, whatever she has to do
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: to protect the one she loves. And I enjoyed playing
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: Natalie so much. She's a lot like me in a
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: lot of ways. The boss don't very different too in
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: some places, but but a lot like many of the
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: people Watcher can really the late tour, somebody in their
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: family is probably like badly. Yeah, I did that a
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: lot just when I was, let, you know, liveing my
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: life bots and store. You know, I don't have people
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: stop being so my Auntie is just like you. You
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: know what a girl your kids do. Natalie is just
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: like me. So Natalie's a stable farm. She's Uh, she's
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: in a relationship with the Rucian who was played by
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Charles wad Woodfield. Uh. Wonderful and just a wonderful being.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: Um for what it's it's been a roller coaster ride.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: She she's one of the group who has released a
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: lot of money. She lives on the outsourcet of town
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: before moving into Maxie, but now she lives in max
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Name with the rest of the ladies and uh and
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: her and and as the season's look for you know,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: her life started to change and she was on a
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: little show feel better and kind of living out the
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: dream and her family with the drama stills followers so
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: and and it still follows up the tool of this
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: new season. And I can't wait to see what viewers
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: are gonna. I'm gonna I'm gonna be able to find out.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: I want to hear what take Okay, cool, okay cool?
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Thank you very much, April Parker Jones. If Loving You
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: Is Wrong. It's produced by Tyler Perry. It's a sexy
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: drama that takes viewers into the lives of a group
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: of husbands, wives, and friends that live and love in
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: the same middle class neighborhood or town called Maxine. This
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: is the fifth and final season. April. Your character's Natalie.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: I think she kind of knows he I think she
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: bothered too many people. But guess what, I'm just a
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: viewer and just telling you what I see. You're married
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: to the Goody two Shoe police officer Lucien, which is
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: my name with an Ail Rashaan Leshawn. That's it. Kelly.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: Kelly is in jail for the murder of Travis Kane
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: and is being helped by Goody two Shoe police officer
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Solution and Rick Now Rick has another agenda because he
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: kind of likes Kelly. I kind of noticed that alone
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: the show. He don't way too much for a police officer.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: And then when he touched her hand a little bit
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: when her hand was on the in the jail cell,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: I knowed the little energy pushed on that. Now, Travis Kane,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: he's no longer in the show because he's dead. He
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: stalked a lot of women at the church, the church
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: settling with nine women. When the same allegations hit Kelly.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: Now she and jail. They want to just put it
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: in jail for a double life. In fact, the d
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: A wants to kill him. That's what I'm just telling y'all. Strong.
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Now Kelly is represented by a public defender because the
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: lawyer that they wanted to hire a turney in. I'm
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: gonna get to him later because he's very key to
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: the cliff hanger at the end of the show. Now,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: but turning in, he worked for Larry. Larry, No, everybody
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Larry is um, We'll get to him a little bit later.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: So dr turning in, he playing the double agent for
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: Larder because Larry he actually represents the Kane family. So
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: his firm does and turne in. He cannot represent somebody
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: in and be like litigation drama. So he said, like,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: I won't represent but I guide the college student public defendily.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: You can say whatever. He don't know nothing coming up
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: with that nice little tight sup and cleaning shoes. But
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: he's never does any big case in his life. Now
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: let's go to the sexy Esperanza. Now, okay, let's talk
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: about her. She went to Larry Larry again, everybody goes
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: to Larry. I don't know why everybody goes to Ladd
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: because Larry is as messy as you come. He's a lawyer,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: know everybody business. Okay, But Esperrasa rolls up in there
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: because everybody go to Larry, right. I want to get
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: divorced from her crazy husband Eddie. Eddie is also a
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: police officer. What do you think the Esperraza work at
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: the police station. So we have a problem right there.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: She's at the police station. She can't get away from
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: a crazy husband who's a crazy car. She wants to
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: get a divorce from the crazy cop and gets sold
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: custody right there. You know there's gonna be a problems
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: now through yet, because like I said, Randall. That's my man.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: Randall's in shape, you know, pull off that shirt, got
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: everything working, six pack, chess, puffed up even in the
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: shirts that he wears. You did he fine? Fine, fine five.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: That is a staple of all Tyler pair of series.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: You're gonna have the five five five man that fits
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: Randall's bill. He's fine, okay, but he's all, but he
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: also can act. He's also crazy. Let me tell you
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: a little thing. A box. See, everybody lives right across
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: from each other, right next to each other, so you
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: have to walk far to get in trouble. Rand he
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: has had been having a sexual affair with the white
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: lady next though, who name is Alex. That's very key
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: that you hear the name Alex, because we're gonna throw
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: a little druma on that name a little bit later on,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: because I am wrapping up the season guiding you to
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: the cliff Hank, which is gonna be the start on Tuesday,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: March thirty first, when this series just takes off and
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: everybody get crazy. Everybody got to get crazy on this series, okay,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: because we're trying. McDonald's telling you you gotta watch your
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: serious now now, Random he thinks that Alex has his child.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Why does he think that because the baby got black features?
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Do dog? He's a white guy. He refused to take
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: the DNA because he no, he has no black ancestry
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: in his life. But here's the funniest part about it.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Brad who's mad to Alex, who wants to get a
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: divorce for Alex, and Randall who's having sex with Alex.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Right next door Brad is dad and Marcy, who used
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: to be married to random dog. Uh. At this point
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: in the story, you're going rushan kidn't get any deeper.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: You're doing rooting to me because there's a bipolar white
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: lady that lives across the street who walks across in
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: front of the windows all the time. Reason she told Natalie, Natalie,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I walk around, I walk around the hawks in the nude.
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: Natalie said, should you close the curtain the great ladys,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: I'm afraid of the dark. So you look perplexed, Okay,
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Obviously she likes showing the black man who is Randall
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: sitting across the street with binoculars. I would tell you
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: something that is what you call an obvious peeping tongue.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: To be sitting across the street with some binoculars, stand
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: across the street in the house, or the bipolar white
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: lady who walks around buck naked. Okay, cool. Now I'm
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: coming to the end. I hope you hate with me.
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: I hope I have said nothing wrong yet have an
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: April Parker Jones. Everything still look okay? Cool? Bringing on
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: to the end. Okay, here we go. Now ben It,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: he's married to the bipolar white lady. Then millennials. Okay,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: one day ben It comes home the bipolar white lady.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: I gotta tell you what's going wrong because she refused
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: to take a madge. That's why I keep mentioning that,
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: because that plays a big role in the series. She
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: should take a marriage or shouldn't you take a madge?
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: She refused to take a madge because she won't stay
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: have a child. Well, guess what. You gotta keep taking
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: these minds. So Benny walks in. One day, she's painting.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Guess who she's painting. She's painting Randall And guess what
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: he's wearing nothing in the painting. He's bucking it black Nick. Well,
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: guess what. Benny doesn't take this too kindly, so he's
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: wrong saying death thread bomb on Randall's house. I'm gonna
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: leave it at that, a death red bomb on Randall's house. Okay, cool,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: We're coming to the end. Okay, now, April Parker Jones,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I have not made any mistakes chat in the storytelling,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: how I not. I'm leading you with guiding you to
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: the end of the fourth season, which is gonna lead
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: to a comatic and tremendous found fifth season. Oh if
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: Lover You was wrong? Produced by Tyler Powell. Now, okay,
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: Larry comes back into the picture, right Larry. Larry meets
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: with Eddie and we discover Larry likes Eddie dot dot dot.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: Eddie said, I don't know like that. Larry said, yes,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: you do. That's gonna happen in the fifth season. So
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: you gotta find out is Eddie like that or not
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: like that? Now, Eddie got bruises. Now, if you watch
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: the end of the serious season and he got bruises
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: all over his face, you know why because Steven beat
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: him up. Who is Steven? That's Esperanza. I don't wanna
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: call him. I will not call him her man because
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: she's not having that type of relationship. But Stephen has
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: beating up with Eddie. Like like he wants to pay
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: man cool. Now we're coming down to the end here.
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: The DNA tests, the big DNA test. So they get
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: in to the hospital. Alex is there, the doctor who
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: trying to maintain her license, is there to people who
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: can't speak of there in the room. Larry walks in
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: the room. Randall walks in the room, reads the DNA tests.
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: Randall officially gets the word you're not the father. Randall
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: stunned because guess what the baby got black features? Come
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: to the remember I said, somebody in turn dr the
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: attorney in. We're about to bring him on back into
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: the picture. At the April's house, which is she plays
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: the roll up Natalie and lule Sean. Brad comes into
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: the house with Alex, and Alex says, I don't want
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: a divorce. Brad said, you get a divorce. I need
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: a witness. Catches showing off guard, but he's a good
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: at two shoot cop, so he goes with the floor.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Because MS knows at April's character played by which is Natalie,
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: she's in to everybody's mix anyway, unless they say, you know,
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: she's striking everybody coffee and nixing their teeth. That's what
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: she does on this show. Okay, because she stabbed po Randall,
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: even though that's another story, but that's a digres let
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: me go to let me let me go to the end.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Also also when she burned in the fire too, but
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: that's another season. That's another season. We're trying to get
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: to the fifth season. So so officially, Brad has already
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: asked Marcy to marry him. Marcia is the ex wife
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: of Randall. Okay, she said no, talking about, Hey, let's
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: build this relationship a little longer we've been you know,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: get your freedom first, because he had not gotten this
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: freedom when he asked the marry even showed her to ring.
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: It's all official now in the House of Lashawn and Natalie.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: Natalie plays the character characters played by April Parker Jon Homes.
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: It's official. The divorce gives it to the guy who
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: can't speak. He walks out with the papers. Then we're
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: getting closer to the end, attorney end. He had met
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: earlier in an episode he had met Jennifer and I
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: mean Alex and thought she was Jennifer, somebody he had
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: dated on Facebook or Tender or some dating site. She said,
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I've never met you in my life. I've never met
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: you in my life. She's very adamant, I've never met
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: you in my life. Well guess what he knew that woman.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: So at the end of the episode, we know the
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: baby's not Randalls, even though in his black features. We
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: know not Brad because Brad claims to be one white.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Your finger is and walking on the sidewalk, Ian grabs her.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: I know you. You say your name is Alex, but
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: you're Jennifer. She said, would you get out of my face?
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: He says, hard for me to get out of your
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: face when I got a screenshot at you on my
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: phone in attorney in it's the father of Alex baby.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: That is the cliffhanger along with Randall, got his house
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: with a bomb dropped on it. You don't know what
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: are you gonna do. You don't know if Brad and
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: Marcia're gonna get together. You don't know, if Esperaza is
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: gonna get divorce. You don't know, Stephen gonna beat up
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Eddie again, you know, and if Lago get together with Eddie.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: You don't know, if Kelly gonna get out of jail.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: If you get out of jail, it offers a Rick
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: gonna be waiting and Lashwan he almost with the jail
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: to himself because he thought Kelly had ran away. That's
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: the fourth season at all, incompetent seasons. If Loving you
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: are wrong, it's wrong. Come on, am did I deliver?
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: Did I deliver for you? I might as well just
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: thank of the phone, because you have delivered hoey more
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: than I could have ever done. You said it, you
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: got it all up that you left. I know you've
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: left me on Marcia for tomorrow. Getting here. I tell you,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I had to tell you. I love your girl, Da.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: And so what I love about your career is that
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: you know, going into the fifth season of Tyler Perry
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: and you've been working all this time on other projects ABC,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Free Farm, c W talking about welcomes through that whole
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: process and when you realize that things are starting to
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: get a little bit better in your career. And we
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: also don't get back to the grand finale of the
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: grand premier of the final season of Love, but you
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: have a career that we need to we need to
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: tell the fans about and also also congratulate you on.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you so much. And uh, it's been
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: a it's been a journey, and it's it's it's to
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: continue with journey. In this industry, there's an uncertain journey journey, UM.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: But that's that's what we should succept when we decide
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: that we want to be in the entertainment industry, that
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: it does come with a lot of uncertainty. But I've
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: been blessed. I've been very blessed because I haven't given
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: up UM. And I encourage your listeners if they are
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: looking to pursue a career in the entertainment industry that
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: the biggest thing is just to don't just continue to
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: persevere or listen. It's it took me ten years in
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Hollywood before I book this Tyler Perry UM shows let
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: he was Wrong and which I was a Perioes regular season,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: But it took ten years of working up to that
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: UM and UH of doing great shows, a lot of
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: guest stars, a lot of co stars, a lot of
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: earn roles on awesome major networks. UM. But I know
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: that even through those two years, the best to feel
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: yet to come. There's still so much, so much, bigger
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: roles to come for me. But I'm so grateful that
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: I had a chance to work with actors like The
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: Bottle Day. It's been um and working with Tyler Perry
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and working under Open's network own. I can't wait to
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: see what works in store. But it has come with work.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: It's come with work. It's come with a lot of
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: rejection to um you know, if everything blue, it ain't gold,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's a lot of being told no,
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: but learning how to celebrate the guesses. UM. So I'm
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: just I'm just really grateful for this opportunity. And um,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: I feel like that I'm leaving. Um, I'm a bit
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: about bit as years go by, I feel like I'm
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: starting to leave a mark in this industry. Um and
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: and leaving a legacy for myself and for my children,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: um and for for those who who do look to
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: me for inspiration, those small town young women from from
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: from places like during North Carolina. UM So yeah, I'm
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: just I'm just grateful people to be talking to you,
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: and grateful to be promoting the final season of its
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: loving you as well. And it's perfically you know, you're
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: on yourself with five years and it and it it
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: changed my life, It changed by life, and so to
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: see it comes to an end, it's hard, but this
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: all things have to come to an end, and this
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: one's coming to an end to make room for the
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: new things that are are coming hopefully in the in
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: your future. Absolutely, I'm talking to April Parker John when
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: she plays your character Natalie on the hit the Own
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Series's OW and Oprah Winfrey's Network Um If Loving You
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Is Wrong? It premiers March Tuesday, March first, at ten pm,
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: and if you missed the premier, you can catch it
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: every Tuesday on Network I tend Eastern and Pacific nine
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: pm Central. It's called If Loving You Is Wrong. I'm
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: a fan of the show because it's classic type payer,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: it's classic tyle, it's messy, it's sex as iteracial relationships.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: It got the five black dude in and you know
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: it's a form of that that works. And then you
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: got the nose and that the character that let's take
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: a little, a little moment here because I got you
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: on the phone here with you, you know, because you
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: know you're trying to you know, to see I know
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: your character, your character one of my sisters always get
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: getting on my nerve. You know, you caught all of
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: me about information I don't want okay, because your pole husband,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: he's a good two shoe cop. That's Leshan Police Office, Leshan. Okay.
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: And she already told somebody on the show that if
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: anybody is trying to mess with her husband, take her husband,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: She's gonna kill him. She always not nothing noticed this,
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: And I see her character is kind of weird because
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: she's she's she's she's she's a nice, violent woman. Okay.
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: When I say that nice, vioblem you know what I'm saying,
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: because I've never met a kind of like a kind
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: of like the neighborhood watch lady, and you kind of
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: you know what what you have violent tendencies that pop
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: up on or you or you let people know, don't
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: don't don't take this nice only one pushy. She she
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: didn't walk around violent. It's only only one pushed. And
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: she's pushed. She has no problem to push back. That's all. Yeah,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: there we go. But she's married to a cop, Okay,
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: so what lets you know that she has a little
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: protection on the side. Paula shot He really don't know
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: all these things about her, Okay, he don't know she's
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: just aggressive. He knows that when he walked through that
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: front door if the neighborhood got a problem, his wife
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: is gonna tell him about it, am I right? Oh yeah,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: she's gonna know. She's gonna have the tea and the coffee,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: and okay, so she's stupids favor for the fans if
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: loving you is wrong, because I would. I mentioned you
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: have Randall and right across the street has been in
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: and his wife, you know, and then next door to
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Randall is uh Is Braden and alex or slash Jennifer.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: They lived there. Okay, we'll do everybody else. Look where
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: does Ian live? And where do you live? In relationships
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: to that? To those homes. You know, what's a really
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: good question. I know I lived from uh Randall's house
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: maybe two houses down on the list. But we're all
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: Kelly is right next door is around the corner. We're
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: all pretty pretty close. If you throw all rock, you
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: you love to hit one of those characters you just named.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: So we're close enough to know each other. Nethelett say that.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: You know, you know I traveled a lot. My friends
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: always they always laugh at me. All they go, how
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: do you watch all that television? How do you know?
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: They always amazed? But what they I was? I was
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: a traveling comedian when I started out IBM and started
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: the career of comedians. So done cruise ship. Just like
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: you said, that's a journey to where you for me
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: to be able to happen, I have this conversation with
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: you on my show, moneymaking conversations, you know, be able
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: to say, create a level of respect that people book
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: you on the show and you come on the show
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: go okay, we're trying. Like you know, I talked to him, Okay, cool,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: And so that's that's the journey. Didn't get to there.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: You know, their peaks and valids and a lot more
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: values because when you look at it, it's not all
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: bad because life is not about you know, a set,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: it's about living. And that's what you're saying that team
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: year gap, you know, because she knows what I were
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: talking about. You know, I played that role where I
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: was on in a film or I was in a
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: television show and they said, look, you cannot speak. You
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: sit there and uh, maybe one day we'll give you
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: a five and nothing, five and nothingers five lines and nothing.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: That's when you when you get that five and under
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: and then you really rocking the roll and then you
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: can put an actual acting or role on your resume
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: credit credit. So a lot of people they put extra
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: acting roles on their resume in the beginning, they're just
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: trying to get in. They're trying to fit in where
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: they can fit in. They say they act. They were
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: on Spider Man three, four and six, okay, and didn't
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: say a word. But guess what they got to build that.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: I know, I know, I know that. You know, that's
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: what I thought of Spider Man. Come on, now, what
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: you know some April, what you're not gonna do is
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: come on my show and act like I don't know
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: who I'm talking to. That's what you're not gonna do.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: You know. You gotta gonna do me like that now, okay,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: because you would do. You played Men three really, so
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I just grabbed Spider Man out of the sky. You know,
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: I just want in order to trying to drive home
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: the plane. I just want to point that out. And
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: it was a very small rule and until yet, hey,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: but there was your point. You did speak. It went
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: down on as a and then and then you take
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: these opportunities and people look at it like, okay, let
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: me bring her in for an audition. And then when
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: you have that audition, that's when you have to make
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: it that that that little credit that brought you in
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: that door has to become a reality because they're asking
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: you to perform to a level because there isn't investment.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: People understand that when you when you hire actors and directors,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: and especially actors, they're important because they're reading lines and
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: these lines have to come to life in a very
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: realistic manner. Okay, And that's the most the biggest blessings
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: that I've had in my life is watching people take
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: scripts that I've written and bring them to life. That's
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: that's a meaningful thing. Talk to us about that whole
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: function of getting the script and being able to prepare
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: your your mindset and deliver these deliver a character that
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: you feel you can deliver all the character they want
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: you to deliver. Welcome to those steps, April Parka Jones. Well,
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: it's just the steps that I use. Is the journey
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: for me. It's just been to read the scripts and
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: find and and see if there is an immediate connection
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: to the character, UM. And if there is a connection,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: that just it helps me to be able to portray
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: their character in the more realistic ways. Um. Sometimes that's
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: not always going to be an instant connection to a character.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: So it's my job as an actor to make choices
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: about what I can, what I can, what I could
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: a bang it about this character that make it relatable
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: to me so that we're not betray it. It's realistic
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: because it makes it makes the viewer feel a certain emotion.
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: So that's that's my job, um, And that's probably a
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: lot about his job is to find either a way
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: to connect themselves to that character, if there's not an
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: immediate one, that to create a choice that makes that
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: character connect connected with them to so that it's realistic.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: And these actors are just portraying reality. We're trying to
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: reenact realism. So in order to do that, we've got
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: to make it fit for us. So that's that's in
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: my journey. And it's fine and it's hard, challenging, um,
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: but that's all we do it to grow and to
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: get better. And I hope that through the years I've
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: been able to make the audience, make the viewer feel
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: that my portrayal was real. Um. That's that's my journey
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: to make to make that that character feel real to
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: that person. So I think I've been able to computic
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: that you have you have talking to for Parker Jones,
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: ap you know April A p j as. I like
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: the call she pays And now they only hit series
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: on on Network called If Loving You Is Wrong Again.
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: The premiers uh Tuesday, March through the first If you
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: missed the premier, don't miss the premiere. First of all,
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: I said, everybody help, letting you know that that that
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: that attorney in and stopped Alex slash Jennifer on the
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: block on the sidewalk and accused her. And he's confronted
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: us saying, hey, is that black child my child? That's
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: your Cliff Paker right there. Now that don't drive you
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: back to watching the show. You got a problem. Let
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: me just remind you what to expect in the upcoming
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: fifth and final season. If Loving You Is Wrong? You
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: got Larry. He's into everybody's business. He hounds the case
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: for Kane. Travis Kane. Who Kelly you know she's in
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: jail for the murder of Travis Kane. Now Travis Kane's
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: important because Kelly not gonna be represented by public defender
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: who is being led on the side by turning in
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: and turning in works for the law firm that represents Kane,
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: which is Larry. Larry's already hinted that there can be
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: a relationship that he needs to have a relationship with Eddie.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: Eddie said, I don't walk like that. He said, yes,
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: you do. That's another reason you watch. Do you have
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: Stephen out there? He wants a bigger relationship with Esperanza,
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: who's fine his hack. Now I understand from a physical
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: staff by why he wanted to get with crazy Esperanza.
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: But so he already beat up Pole Eddie wants it
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: may be another beat up for Eddie or guess what,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Eddie might go to the gym and learn how to
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: beat up him this time. Then you have Paul Randall.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: Paul Randall, he's at the house by himself, bend it
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: and dropped the bomb depth threat on his house. Can't
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: tell you what happened, You gotta watch the series to
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: find out. Then you got Ben It's bipolar wife. You
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: have to bring it up because she refuses to take
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: her meds. Is drawing, it's it's painting new photos or
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: new portraits of Randall, who lives directly across the street.
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: Now if and then you have Lucien Good at two shoot.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Then you have Officer Rick who's out there touching leave
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: a little touches to make you believe there might be
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: some interest for him into Paul Kelly who's sitting behind
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: jail and orange jump suit. She tied up, hair still comb.
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: I don't know how her hairstand coach staying that comb
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: the jail, but the hair stays calm. Then you have
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: Paul Natalie walking a mile again her groceries. I don't
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: understand that in the year, in the year we have
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: uber today. She got her on a call, but she
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: walks a mile one way, then she walks a while
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: back the other way with her groceries. Randall thought that
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: was the craziest thing he had ever heard in his
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: life and laughed real loud. That that is a wrap
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: up of season one to three four, leading into a
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: tremendous fifth and final season April. If I missed anything,
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: please let me know, because you know I don't want
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: to leave out no detail of this great series detail.
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: And like I said, you was a fit fans up
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: to definitely tune in tomorrow. Everybody March thirtem on all
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: you're in for a ride. I guarantee. Thank you for
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: having me. I'm so grateful, UM, and I just appreciate
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: your dues, you guys into the show and your support.
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Thank you. We'll be back because I wanted you know,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: we got that movie coming out that when you play
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: the character Morgan. We talked about that later, but I
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: know you was on this phone to talk about if
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: loving you was wrong. It's a great series. It deserves

- 1:41:44Speaker 1: the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect car seat
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: looks to be about nine or ten, has secured herself
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: in the sister seat. Dead SIPs the bad clothes and

- 1:43:03Speaker 1: My next cast is a stand up comic right there,
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: let's start right there. A stand up comic. That's what
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: I used to be. But I always it's hard for
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: him to say that, because I always feel I'm gonna
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: always be a stand up comic. But I gotta say
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: that's what I used to be because of the fact
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: that that's what he does. That's what he does for
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: a living, and he's one of the best. Daddy, he's
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: an actor and a writer as comedian. As a comedian,

- 1:43:43Speaker 1: He has three stand up specials to his credit, and
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: released his fourth, fat Ballerina, produced by my man kearn
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Hard fat Ballerina. Who So Netflix, right now, that's what
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I saw. What I saw, I'll tell you out landing big.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: I went, you know, because what happens is, hey, brother,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: we're all at the house. Okay, I'm going through and
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: really really I saw you before the whole pandemic thing
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: got going. So I saw you. So so I go
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: to Netflix. I got you know, netflick comes up, push
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: my my little Avatar because my wife got to Avatar.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: My daughter got Avatar. You know, like like they're looking
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: at something different than I'm looking at. We all look
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: at the same Netflix program. So I go, okay, you know,
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I see who's David David fat look like David right there, man,
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: I's just my boy. So I click it. I sat
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: there the whole time laughing. Then my wife come in
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: the room. I said, I know him. That's what I said, David,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: I know. I told my wife I know him, and
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: she went, you know everybody, okay, whatever, when I know him?
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: That is so dope. Man. You don't tell you absolutely
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: the truth, man, And then you get to the end,
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: the very end. Producer Kim whitty Man, one of the
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: finest character comedian actresses in the game today and a
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: stand up I immediately immediately text Kim Whitman said, I
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: just saw and you can she she can screenshot at it.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: I just saw David special Man. Was he good? I said,
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: I have to I have to get him on my show.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: One of the main conversations David. She went, wasn't he good?
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Wasn't he good? I said, girl, he was more than good.
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: He was fantastic. So David, congratulations, brother. I just had
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: to tell you how it all went down. How how
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: person Some people say, I got a lot of statue
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: in this business. I like to just say, I'm just
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: a brother. But to see you, you've done you. I mean,
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: come on, man, everybody you know you you have, you
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: have you have helped guide one of the people who
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: have been cut, who have become, you know, a staple
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: in the comedy community. You know what I'm saying, And
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: it takes a lot to do that. Man, It takes
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: a lot to because you know, we're not easy people,
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: and so it takes a lot to be able to
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: go on a journey with somebody. And also, like you said,
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: you did stand up comedy too, So to be able to,
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: you know, adjust your lens and start helping somebody else
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: do something is is an incredible thing within itself. So
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: when I when they called me and they told me, like,
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: let me give you our connection. You don't know before.
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: So you you helped inspire a guy who started me doing,
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: who started me writing and producing t V. His name
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: as Anthony Hill. That's my boy. Absolutely I know Anthony
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: is Anthony. Me and Anthony met doing Tony Rocks. TV
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: showed that I was I was brought in to do
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: Puncher for I was. Actually I wasn't even asked to go.
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: They asked Chris Spencer to go. Chris Spencer asked if
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: he could bring his friend to do some punch up.
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: Anthony was wearing under room. Long story short, Anthony got
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: rid of everybody and kept me and me and Anthony
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: became good friends. Anthony went on to run house to
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: paint and Nika bronsptalent period at Lant and the first
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: thing he did when they put him in charge, which
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: he brought me Anthony showed me how to write. Anthony
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: told me that you showed him and told him and
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: you take this little plate that you wrote and turn
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: it into this and that is and he credits you
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: for that. So now when I got the call you know, hey,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: you want to chop it over, saw him like yeah,
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: because he has no idea that somebody who you helped
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: also added another another strength in my world, which is
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: now television writing and producing. So he came back around.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: So I just want to say on that thank you.
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: And then we met one time we met. We yeah,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: we met one time when I was in I think
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: it was in North Carolina maybe South Carolina, I can't remember.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: But I opened up for Steve and I have been
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: doing stand up all of twenty minutes laterally and you
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: hear I mean, and all was nice enough to talk
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: to me in the back and makes me feel like
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: I was, you know, a person, but it was I
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: never forget that. That was the one encounter that I
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: had with Steve which literally had to be twenty twenty
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: one year, twenty three years ago, because I was brand new,
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: you know. I mean, I've been a stand up twenty
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: forty years, so I know I was within my first
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: two years of George stand up because I had about
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: twenty minutes and material. So it was dope then. So
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: it's great to hear somebody who's um affected your career indirectly.
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: To now see that you saw something that I did
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: and you thought that it was funny. That makes me
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: feel good. First of all, the callbacks, See, people don't
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: do callbacks anymore, and a callback, just explain people with
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: a callback is in a in a funny comedy routine,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: is that you're set up a statement and then you
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: you're indirectly bring it back and laid in into your
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: show again. He has like three callbacks in his special. Okay,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: and I'm not gonna tell you what. If I tell
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: you what the callback is, this won't be funny when
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: you hear the first time. So I'm not gonna ruin
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: a joke, but know that. Yeah, but everybody, But let
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: me just tell it for everybody who's listening. To always
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: tell people that you gotta put in David A Arnold
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: or you won't find me. If you do David Arnold,
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: you're gonna find the white guy that produces all the
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: soundtracks to James Bummer. But if you put in David,
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: you'll find me, because a lot of people are searching
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: Netflix and they're searching David Arnold and sometimes that won't
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: bring up. If you put in David's ardor in stat Ballerina,
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: that's how you can find me, especially there and on
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: social media. So yeah, but go ahead that that's right, Absolutely,
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: you're the thing, and that that's really an art form.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: It's a lost art form, especially with so many, you know,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: social media comedians and YouTube comedians, you know, who just
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: just want to say something for two or three minutes
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: and all of a sudden they walk off and say
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: and take a bow. But that's not nothing negative them.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: They just take advantage of technology. If I had technology,
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: I may have been a YouTube comedian. Who knows if
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: I had that ability to chew it up. The brilliance
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: of Kevin Hard is that he figured out social media
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: before everybody figuring it out. As a comedian. That is,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: let me tell you something. Was on the phone with
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: a friend of mine last yesterday's name is Desi Banks
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: is a YouTube or a Instagram social media influencer personality
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: got like four, I have millions followers Key's and now
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: he's been doing stand up about two years, two or
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: three years, and me and him were talking about this.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: I realized about two years ago, two years ago, I
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: had sixteen hundred followers right because I'm you know, I'm like,
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: what would I look like yelling in the camera all day?
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: So I but I realized that this is the way
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: that the world is being reached now. So what I
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: didn't want to do with to be that old school
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: comedian complaining about these young dudes who are making moves
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: in the way in which the world is moving. So
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: I started taking my point of view, my comedy, my voice,
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: and I started posting on Instagram and Facebook. I got
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: over six hundred thousand followers now and in eighteen months
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: because I've decided, if this is the game they're playing,
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna play that game too. I'm gonna work on
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: my stand up, but I'm gonna play this social media
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: game as well. So it's been incredible that six hundred thousand.
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Where Shaun gave me the launching pad when my Netflix
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: special came out a few weeks ago. That gave me
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: the launching pad to send it out to six hundred
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: thousand people and let him know it was up. And
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: that's what sparked it and got it trending the second
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: day it came out right. And that's what people to
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: understand that I just telling my side story with Steve
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: Harvey is that in two thousand and seven, I started
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: noticing on CNN and all the sports shows twitter feeds
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: and Twitter they had the Twitter handles and I go, wow,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: what is this because Twitter handles. Twitter handles Twitter handles
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: And at the time, we had like seven hundred, eight
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: hundred thousand fan club members, and I went my ways,
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: my time, we had a eight hundred thousand fan club members,
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: and so we sat down, you know something, we don't
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: want to be left out, and so so we brought
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: bro at the time, he had like fifty thousand at
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: that time, and so we brought in the young lady
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: to be his social media person at Avatar. You know,
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: act like he's posted, he's not post and so move
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: right there. If we did not do that move, we
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: will not have been able to launch his talk show
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: in twelve because I was able to compare this social
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: media follow with you know, doctor Dr Phil with ln
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: D generally with his competitors who are coming along at
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: the same time. And so what you also tell the
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: people is that if you don't have social media followers,
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: it can damage your opportunities because a lot of companies
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: look at you now go what can you do for us?
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: We're gonna put you on TV? What can you do
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: for us? That's so true, You've got to have us.
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: I tell all the young comics that I talked to
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: now and even these older ones, like all the young
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: comics tell me, or the the young influencers, they'll tell
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: me you are the first, one of the first um
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: stand up comedians o G. As they called me, stand
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: up comic to have figured out the social media game.
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: And I'm like, because I'm like to let this pass
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: me by, especially because I have not yet gotten my
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: just to do. I have not yet been seen, like
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: I feel like I need to be seen. So therefore
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: I started building. Uh, I started building a following, and
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: I was like, listen, they posted up videos that are
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: two and a half sixty seconds to three minutes long,
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: and most of them ain't funny. I'm funny. I know
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: I'm funny, so I'm like, I could be funny today
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: for the rest of my life. I lead at your side.
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: I leaned into it and I was like, I'm not
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: gonna complain about the game. I'm gonna get with the game.
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: And now I got these two worlds and my gott
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: to be honest with you. Man. I love being able
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: to talk to my fans on social media and Facebook
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: and Instagram. I love it. I went live yesterday on Facebook.
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: People was watching me. That's that's the most people I've
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: ever got a chance to see a small night intimate theater.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: It's amazing. It's amazing. It's it's amazing when you realize
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: you have that type of marketing control. I look at
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: Kevin Hart and I remember when I was well, I
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: would I remember when I would watch him walk around
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: in the in the in the different clubs. He's always
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: had somebody walking with him with some camera who was
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: always running from club to club to club. That's what
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: I remember about. And then and then then when I
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: when I when we cast him in the movie, UM
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: thinking like a man. The very first one UM he
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: had like about I wanted to say he had like
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: by five million, was talking about twelve five million Facebook
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: followers at the time at the time. And I remember, right,
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: you know, I was just remember he was talking about
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Facebook because he had all He had Twitter and Instagram,
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: he had everything. Okay, But and you said, Rashan, I
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: picked up twenty thousand followers on Sunday. Hmm, right, right,
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: thousands of followers in one day. That's what Kevin hard
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: Right then I knew he was on to something to
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: pick up twenty followers in one day. And I say
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: that it means something and so and that's why he's
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: a power broker today because he controls his media. And
- 1:56:10Speaker 1: so one of the things that you know, I managed
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: steven A. Smith when we sat down and Steven A.
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: Smith was not on Instagram at all. He was just
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: a Twitter and Facebook guy. And I said, hey, man,
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: here we're talking about opening the Twitter Instagram account. He said,
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: he isn't that for young people? You think that's my
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: market share? Where two point eight million Instagram followers. Later,
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: yes it is, Yes, it is. And so now he
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: is the following in Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And so
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: now he controls his market share. And so when I
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: stopped managing Steve harvey in one of the first things
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: that I wanted to do was because how create my
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: own voice? David? I wonder the what is my voice?
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: And people people always look at me, go we'll sell
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: you're you're successful. Now I'm successful with Steve Harvard. That's
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: not my voice, that's at my right. I said, what
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: what would make people follow me? What would make people well?
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: I could bake real good? So I started baking everything.
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: And every time I post a bake, I get thousands
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: to thousand likes. I'll go viral with my baking post.
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: But that wasn't me, and so I had to sit back.
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: That was just a gift that God gave me. And
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: so I have to sit back and go, you know
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: what I'm saying, that was just a gift. And so
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: a lot of people understand that that might not be
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: your in goal. But I always tell people, if God
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: gives you a window, watch it, please, you know, look
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: at it. Please open the please. And that's what I did.
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: I opened it and I started baking. So I swear
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: to you, I could be walking at the mall, I
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: could be walking. I was walking in the Beverly Hills
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: walking this lady pulled down roll down that window said,
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: are you the baking guy? I go, wow? Are you? Yeah?
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: Right right right right right so so so I was
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: in the Deult allowed. This lady came in to me,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: almost in tears. She was she worked, and she's a
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: worker in the Deult Allowed. She said. She said, sir,
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: I spoke to you when you when you when you
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: when you walk by? I go, h, I said hi
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: back then she said, yes you did, but what you
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: didn't know? Are you the baker? To get who bakes?
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: I go, she went, I follow you? I follow you? Man.
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: This lady almost broke down the team out to hug
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: this lady, I said, uh, I had to get up
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: out of my chair man. It's all right, you know.
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: She said, wow, I can't believe a meeting you and
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: I only bring up these scenarios to show that that's
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: the power of controlling your own voice, and that's what
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: you're talking about, and the power of that translating to
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: the person like me. Ra Sean McDonald contacting you saying hey, man,
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm a fan watching this guy. Fan
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: it's a fan and I'm telling my wife I know him,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: and she's looking at me blowing me off. David A
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: Are Now I know him? You know you? Like what
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: It's so dope for me is to watch everybody the
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: two worlds meet now because a lot of like I
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: told you, a lot of my fan base had built
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: lately dramatically in social media Facebook and Instagram. So now
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: when I told them, hey, go watch my Netflix special,
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: they went watched it and then they were like, oh,
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: I didn't know you. I mean, I know you funny
- 1:59:27Speaker 1: on Instagram and Facebook, but I didn't know you're a
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: real stand up comedian. A lot of people don't know that.
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: I've been doing stand up for twenty four years and
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: this is not my first role. This is not my
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: first rodeo. This is the first national stage that I've
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: been on, and it's been dope, eat it eat like this.
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: This Netflix special idea I produced, I put I did
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: all of this myself. It's an independent project. It's not
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: a Netflix original. It is an independent project that they
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: licensed and they put up. And it's great for me
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: to go that thing on this second day started trending,
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: and it trended that number one first ten days that
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: it was out, and beat out the originals and it
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: makes me feel good. Okay, finally get something people this good.
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: Let me tell you not only you good, but you
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: can never do another special in the comedy club. You
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: are arenas and that brother, you are venues of three
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: thousand and more. That's where I need to see your
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: next special act because because you are, you are a star.
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: Sim teasing about star wars. Stars can never be seen,
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: can never be touchable. I can't look down at and
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: being able to touch on one of my fans. I'm
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: not a star because see people as what people perceive security.
- 2:00:49Speaker 1: You know, way up there, they can you a little
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: bit on the stage. She stars, you know, that's what
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: stars do. They motivate people. Even though it's an inconvenience.
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: Usually he still gotta be there to see you. So
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: when you do these specials, you know your next one,
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: you're gonna have another one. You gotta be an a
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: vision already already there you go. You gotta be up
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: on the phone now, come on, come on, you gotta
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: be up there, look up there and pulling at somebody.
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: Look when you're looking up around. That's what you gotta do, David,
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: because you already star and the reason I say that, man,
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: because you're doing the comedy the way comedy is supposed
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: to be done. You know, the way Chris Rock do it,
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: the way Steve Hard would do it. Why Dave to
- 2:01:35Speaker 1: do it? But when you're throwing those callbacks, brother, when
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: you're throwing those callbacks, man, I went this, brother can
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: write this. Brother understands and his courageous in his stand
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: up coming. And we're talking to David a Arnold. He's
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: the star of the new Netflix hit the trended on
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: Netflix called fact Ballerina, produced under the banner of Kevin Hart.
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: Stop throwing out your credits, brother, because you don't know
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: who might be listening to. They go, what are you
- 2:02:00Speaker 1: talking to? This sounds good, I'm talking to David. Okay,
- 2:02:07Speaker 1: I've been listening. I've been listening to radio lot. I go,
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: this sounds good. But who is he talking to? Exactly?
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: You gotta kee it up. You gotta tee it up
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: every five and ten minutes to let him not absolutely
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: and so and so when I look at the opportunities
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: that you're bringing to the stage, I wanted to bring
- 2:02:23Speaker 1: up this whole, this whole moment when I talked in
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: your credits that you would when I said, you've trained
- 2:02:29Speaker 1: successful comedians. Yeah, tell us a lot. Tell us about
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: that scenario, that part of your life. Um, okay, So
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: about ten years ago I started I created a stand
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: up comedy class. It's called the Art of Stand Up Comedy.
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: You can see you can get information on it if
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: you go to my website, which is David a onod
- 2:02:45Speaker 1: dot com and you can click on the class and
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: you can see this. I started doing that about ten
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: years ago. And I'll tell you why. In the beginning,
- 2:02:53Speaker 1: I love stand up. I love the art of stand up.
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: And when I moved here to Los Angeles, I moved
- 2:02:58Speaker 1: here with two tracks, USh bags of clothes, no car,
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: not one single friend, and two addresses to two comedy clubs,
- 2:03:07Speaker 1: the Comedy Store and the laugh Factory. And the only
- 2:03:11Speaker 1: thing I knew if I wanted to be a comedian.
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: I didn't have nobody to tell me you should go
- 2:03:16Speaker 1: on this day, you should talk to this person, you
- 2:03:18Speaker 1: should stand here. I didn't know nothing, so I meandered
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: and found my way by myself. And when I got
- 2:03:26Speaker 1: to a place where I felt like I had some
- 2:03:30Speaker 1: information to share, I decided to teach a class. Now
- 2:03:34Speaker 1: in the beginning, I didn't want to teach a class
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: because they say those who teach teach because they cannot do,
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: and that is that. That was my ego saying, yeah,
- 2:03:45Speaker 1: that's true. I'm not teaching a classes. He's gonna make
- 2:03:48Speaker 1: it look like a lot, and gave up on trying
- 2:03:49Speaker 1: to be a comedian. So now I'm gonna teach other people.
- 2:03:53Speaker 1: But then I realized, no, no, I'm gonna break the mold.
- 2:03:57Speaker 1: I teach because I do, and I do well, and
- 2:04:01Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing. So when I changed my
- 2:04:05Speaker 1: mindset and I started to teach these classes, I don't
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: know what happened, but I can tell you now I
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: have the largest stand up comedy class in the country.
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: I have well over three d and fifty five people
- 2:04:17Speaker 1: on my waiting list when I opened up my class,
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: and I only do twenty people, and that sells out
- 2:04:24Speaker 1: within within the quickest it ever sold, I was thirty
- 2:04:28Speaker 1: seven minutes. The deceats the most of the terble averages
- 2:04:32Speaker 1: about two and a half hours, but the classes u ute.
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: I can't teach you to be funny, that's in you
- 2:04:40Speaker 1: or not. But what I can show you is the
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: process in which I go through that I've been through
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: and that my friends go through to build an act,
- 2:04:49Speaker 1: to learn how to take this art of storytelling and
- 2:04:52Speaker 1: make it work for yourself. So you can do that
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: because most people that are comedian, they have no idea
- 2:04:59Speaker 1: how to construct a story and tell a story. They
- 2:05:02Speaker 1: just talking. That's why you see a lot of comedians
- 2:05:04Speaker 1: that have great personality and they're very interesting to look at,
- 2:05:09Speaker 1: but they're not talking about ship and you can't remember
- 2:05:14Speaker 1: nothing they're saying, you know what I mean. So, like,
- 2:05:16Speaker 1: I just started teaching the class and I wrote a
- 2:05:19Speaker 1: book called The Artist Stand Up Comedy, which I'm about
- 2:05:21Speaker 1: to be leave. Um it is it's I love doing it.
- 2:05:26Speaker 1: And people thought that I would stop doing it when
- 2:05:27Speaker 1: I started making money. I ain't gonna be doing that
- 2:05:30Speaker 1: when you're making money. And I still do the class.
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: I can't. I can't do it as often as I
- 2:05:35Speaker 1: used to because I'm more busy now, but I still
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: do it. I opened up and I started teaching people
- 2:05:40Speaker 1: on line, so I've worked with I worked with people
- 2:05:42Speaker 1: in England and Holland, in New Jersey, in Minnesota. If
- 2:05:46Speaker 1: you can get on stage and get online and send
- 2:05:49Speaker 1: me a set and I can look at it and
- 2:05:51Speaker 1: we can face time and talk about your work. You
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: can take my class. So it's been incredibly successful. It
- 2:05:58Speaker 1: was something that I didn't see come and it because
- 2:06:01Speaker 1: it's something that I love and I love talking about
- 2:06:03Speaker 1: Communito comedians Saran. We go to comedy clubs and work
- 2:06:07Speaker 1: out and then we go to stream to the diner
- 2:06:10Speaker 1: or to the restaurant and sit there and talk to
- 2:06:12Speaker 1: another two hours about stand up you know what I mean.
- 2:06:15Speaker 1: Like that's just when we knew so like this just
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: a lot of me and gave I said, why don't
- 2:06:20Speaker 1: I share this information? The reason I charge you is
- 2:06:23Speaker 1: because I'm giving you twenty plus years of experience and
- 2:06:26Speaker 1: I'm spending time away from my family to give you something.
- 2:06:30Speaker 1: So that is what it's the cost of it. But
- 2:06:32Speaker 1: now with this Netflix special out and the success of
- 2:06:35Speaker 1: my producing career and people just seeing me perform, it's
- 2:06:40Speaker 1: it's it's unbelievable how great the class has been received
- 2:06:46Speaker 1: and the dope stuff that we're doing. I just love it, man,
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: I love it because it comes from my chest. Well,
- 2:06:52Speaker 1: the special is a fantastic I'm talking to David a
- 2:06:56Speaker 1: on Or stand up comic expert, actor, writer, that's that's
- 2:07:01Speaker 1: what you call the triple threat. You know, I was that,
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: I was, I was shitcome manager comic, you know, as
- 2:07:08Speaker 1: a comedian is perform all over the country, various specials
- 2:07:12Speaker 1: and uh, I know, we got the pandemic right now
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: is shutting down a lot of opportunities right now. But
- 2:07:16Speaker 1: the beauty of it is that I saw you, man,
- 2:07:19Speaker 1: I saw you, and I just had to show your
- 2:07:21Speaker 1: love and respect and bring you on my show Money
- 2:07:24Speaker 1: Conversations and uh tell the world you know that, you know,
- 2:07:29Speaker 1: you know. The amazing thing about the show, David, is
- 2:07:31Speaker 1: that so many people have told me how indirectly or
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: directly affected them, and that it always catches me off
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: guard because I'm always man that just uh, since i
- 2:07:41Speaker 1: was eighteen years old, I've always been paying it forward,
- 2:07:44Speaker 1: you know, and whether I whether my computer classes or
- 2:07:47Speaker 1: my degree was in mathematics, helping people, trying to trying
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: to pull them up, trying to pull them up and
- 2:07:52Speaker 1: to see that that that's still that's still part of
- 2:07:54Speaker 1: your your DNA with your class. Please do not stop
- 2:07:57Speaker 1: your classes, please, that is Paul, will you. I will
- 2:08:01Speaker 1: not stop them. I will not stop. I mean, if
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: you guys were to you should follow me on Instagram
- 2:08:08Speaker 1: and god David a Arnold or David a Arnold on
- 2:08:11Speaker 1: on Facebook. And I'm across the board and just you know, Twitter,
- 2:08:14Speaker 1: all of it and just go for this rime. And
- 2:08:17Speaker 1: I'm very excited about some of the stuff that's coming up.
- 2:08:20Speaker 1: I'm very excited about everything I'm doing. And I'm finally
- 2:08:24Speaker 1: feeling like I'm getting a little bit of a daylight
- 2:08:29Speaker 1: to get shined on me for the hard work that
- 2:08:31Speaker 1: I've been doing that and I'm gonna take every piece
- 2:08:34Speaker 1: of it. But no that I got a whole lot
- 2:08:36Speaker 1: of work to do. Still, look here, a big fan,
- 2:08:40Speaker 1: will you do that next special? It got to be
- 2:08:42Speaker 1: in the arena. It gotta be in front of you.
- 2:08:45Speaker 1: That wh you said that. That's what they told me somebody,
- 2:08:50Speaker 1: the person that called me told me the exact thing.
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: But it will be just what I do, David, David
- 2:08:57Speaker 1: will be And I know Netflix is uh is the
- 2:09:01Speaker 1: network he's streaming on. Very special is produced by under
- 2:09:05Speaker 1: the banner of Kevin Hard. So you know it's fantastic
- 2:09:07Speaker 1: because he's more. Even more fantastic is that he's funny.
- 2:09:11Speaker 1: He's a good looking guy, he's a good looking guy.
- 2:09:15Speaker 1: So that that helps. That helps, that help, you know.
- 2:09:19Speaker 1: You know what's so funny you're saying help, But I
- 2:09:21Speaker 1: could tell you many times when it is hurt and
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: been an obstacle, people be like, who is this light
- 2:09:27Speaker 1: skin curly in? Oh my god, David, it man hurt
- 2:09:36Speaker 1: you back then. But brother, okay, the social media is
- 2:09:43Speaker 1: always nice to follow a good looking guy. Okay, I'm
