- 1:37Speaker 1: branding and production company. Please welcome with the money making conversation.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Constance Swartz Marini good morning or good cost is wow.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'll tell you something. This is great. This is my
- 1:54Speaker 1: staff called me to say, would you like to innstute
- 1:57Speaker 1: the name sounds for me? Yes, yes, I want the
- 2:01Speaker 1: end of the year. How are you doing? I'm so
- 2:05Speaker 1: good and I see it's a Dion Sanders themed morning.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And I'm so happy that Tacy and Dion Arngate praise
- 2:13Speaker 1: the Lord on many levels. I love both of them
- 2:16Speaker 1: and I love them even more together. So I told
- 2:18Speaker 1: him that if you listen to the interview, that's all
- 2:20Speaker 1: I talked about two beautiful people and uh, you played
- 2:23Speaker 1: important role in Dion's career and now you have I
- 2:26Speaker 1: think now you kind of like if you let let's
- 2:28Speaker 1: let me say just right, you know, now you are
- 2:31Speaker 1: a you've been a brand maker. Now you kind of
- 2:34Speaker 1: like at the forefront and being recognized as a talent
- 2:38Speaker 1: yourself and producing and you're you're more on the forefront.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Now will I say that? Am I right when staying that? Now?
- 2:45Speaker 1: M very regret regrettably, Yes, I'm starting to come out
- 2:49Speaker 1: in the forefront. I think you probably can relate a
- 2:53Speaker 1: little bit like we've been behind the sn for many
- 2:56Speaker 1: years helping you know, architect and craft the talents with
- 3:01Speaker 1: and UH and I have to give major props to
- 3:04Speaker 1: my talent because they're the ones that have been kicking
- 3:06Speaker 1: me in the behind saying, you know, you've got to
- 3:09Speaker 1: get out there, You've got to get out there. I think,
- 3:10Speaker 1: especially with what's happening in the world, you know, just
- 3:13Speaker 1: with with uh, you know, diversity and gender equality and
- 3:18Speaker 1: and uh, just just as you can tell them. Stuttering
- 3:21Speaker 1: a little bit because I hate talking about myself, but
- 3:24Speaker 1: if someone said to me, you know, think about how
- 3:27Speaker 1: it's helping the people coming after us as well as
- 3:30Speaker 1: you know, our company, and we've got a lot of
- 3:32Speaker 1: young people that work with us here at SMACK who
- 3:34Speaker 1: I just love and respect, and if it's going to
- 3:37Speaker 1: help you know, our business grow and their careers, and
- 3:39Speaker 1: this is sort of what's doing it. So long way
- 3:42Speaker 1: to say thank you for having me, Well, that's what
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm saying is that that's why I developed the show.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You know, I developed the show, and uh because I couldn't.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I could not stop being as they say famous. You know,
- 3:51Speaker 1: people will find you, people will follow you, and so
- 3:55Speaker 1: either you do two things. You go with flow, which
- 3:58Speaker 1: I decided to go with the flow and build my
- 4:01Speaker 1: brand out and it's becoming an incredibly the next level.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You know. I built it with Steve and then all
- 4:06Speaker 1: of a sudden it took me like a little bit
- 4:07Speaker 1: too nurture and let everybody know that this is what
- 4:10Speaker 1: Sean McDonald's brand. And now it is growing exponential and
- 4:15Speaker 1: I feel that's happening to you because and I'm gonna
- 4:17Speaker 1: tell you this constant. I can tell in your personality
- 4:21Speaker 1: there's a difference, and that's a positive thing because you know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: your energy level when we used to talk was a
- 4:26Speaker 1: little bit lower, a little bit different, you know, and
- 4:30Speaker 1: now it's it's it seems to be bigger, and it
- 4:32Speaker 1: seems to be more more um promotional. And because you're
- 4:36Speaker 1: willing to talk about your success story, your your your
- 4:40Speaker 1: side of the story, which is a very important story
- 4:42Speaker 1: to be told nowadays. Correct, Thank you. Yeah, I agree.
- 4:46Speaker 1: And I think probably um, as you get older and
- 4:50Speaker 1: have a lot of you know, trials and tribulations and
- 4:52Speaker 1: failures which you can turn into success, it um brings
- 4:56Speaker 1: I think a level of confidence and maybe some calmness.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And and you know, this is a big step for
- 5:02Speaker 1: me because I'm going to be fifty in a couple
- 5:03Speaker 1: of weeks and you look fantastic. You know, you look fantastic,
- 5:07Speaker 1: right I don't, but thank you for saying it. I'll uh.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I think when I'm fifty in one day, I'm gonna
- 5:15Speaker 1: own it and I'm gonna just say the heck with it.
- 5:18Speaker 1: And it is what it is. And I think that's
- 5:19Speaker 1: a lot of what transferred over into sort of you know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: the business of it all is just also finding some
- 5:26Speaker 1: confidence in your looks too. Is you're about to turn
- 5:28Speaker 1: this milestone birthday. Well, you know, I did a big
- 5:31Speaker 1: video that we're viral about not having age as an excuse.
- 5:36Speaker 1: You know that you can do whatever you want to do,
- 5:38Speaker 1: whatever age you are. And a lot of people when
- 5:40Speaker 1: you hit a certain platform with it's fifty or sixty,
- 5:43Speaker 1: they there, this is it. I can't dream anymore, I
- 5:46Speaker 1: can't play anymore. And I know that when I'm looking
- 5:49Speaker 1: at your what you're doing now, it's this guy's the limit.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Now you might be turning fifty, but wow, you're gonna
- 5:57Speaker 1: be busy to your hundred hopefully not. I'm trying to
- 6:01Speaker 1: figure out when this retirement plan is going to happen.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's not gonna happen, you know, it's not. I know
- 6:07Speaker 1: everyone says, who are you kidding? You're not a lunching,
- 6:10Speaker 1: uh lady, you know, shopping type of person. And I
- 6:13Speaker 1: know deep down that's the truth. And and I think
- 6:16Speaker 1: you know spiritually and and just my soul and my spirit,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I definitely don't feel fifty. And I also think you
- 6:23Speaker 1: know that your the truths, and what you're saying is
- 6:24Speaker 1: I'm just getting started. Okay, before we get to the
- 6:27Speaker 1: management company. They sent me some recent interviews, you know,
- 6:30Speaker 1: because I and these some of the titles of the
- 6:33Speaker 1: interviews that they said, what is really like to be
- 6:36Speaker 1: a female boss in the male dominated industry? That was
- 6:38Speaker 1: one title, how to make it as a woman in
- 6:41Speaker 1: an NFL, And then the one I really like is
- 6:44Speaker 1: uh uh conscert Swatch Marina on why she works ten
- 6:48Speaker 1: time hearted than members of the Lucky sparm Club. That's
- 6:56Speaker 1: my favorite. That's my favorite. Oh my good. That was
- 7:00Speaker 1: one of my first interviews when I realized that they're
- 7:03Speaker 1: always going to pull that. One line out that you
- 7:05Speaker 1: don't realize, as you're saying, is that it's a list.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Polarizing maybe, but it's the truth. Well that's why, that's
- 7:13Speaker 1: why I got you on the phone, because of the
- 7:16Speaker 1: fact that you know a lot of it's the advice show.
- 7:19Speaker 1: It's an informational show. It's a show about what can
- 7:22Speaker 1: you do? And you know, men dominate this business and
- 7:27Speaker 1: sometimes women, attractive women can be perceived as just attractive women,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and you have to fight even harder to get your
- 7:35Speaker 1: voice heard. As you know, for as you know, you
- 7:37Speaker 1: are an attractive young lady and so and so you
- 7:40Speaker 1: can't run from that, but you also shouldn't be held
- 7:43Speaker 1: held uh that is the negative, and and be treated
- 7:46Speaker 1: a certain way. And tell me about that journey a
- 7:50Speaker 1: little bit of being able to get your voice in
- 7:52Speaker 1: this business, because you're still getting it, just like I'm
- 7:54Speaker 1: still getting my voice of being a female in this business.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And you know it's male dominated. It started for me
- 8:02Speaker 1: back in my twenties when I was at the NFL,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and I realized that a lot of times, because you're
- 8:08Speaker 1: saying it you are an attractive female, people look at
- 8:10Speaker 1: you differently. They don't want to hear what you have
- 8:12Speaker 1: to say. Um, nothing against you know, attractive women that
- 8:16Speaker 1: are pursuing, you know, a business as a cheerleader, which
- 8:18Speaker 1: I think is a very lucrative business, but that wasn't
- 8:21Speaker 1: my path. And so when you just I think looked
- 8:24Speaker 1: at differently when you're trying to be the person that's
- 8:26Speaker 1: commanding the room. I dressed differently. I mean I was
- 8:29Speaker 1: wearing clothes a size too big for me. You know,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I wasn't being myself. I was you know, oversized golf shirts.
- 8:36Speaker 1: When we're at our events because you wanted to be
- 8:37Speaker 1: taken seriously. And I think there was a moment that
- 8:41Speaker 1: came where I had a really successful event and my
- 8:45Speaker 1: boss at the time acknowledged it and started really paying
- 8:48Speaker 1: attention to me and giving me, you know, the confidence
- 8:51Speaker 1: and just I guess, the power and the respect to
- 8:54Speaker 1: walk into a room and command that seat at the table.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And it was that defining moment for me where I
- 8:59Speaker 1: was like, you know, I'm going to show up in
- 9:01Speaker 1: my jeans, in my sports coat, like I'm gonna show
- 9:03Speaker 1: up at these events and wear my heels and not
- 9:05Speaker 1: worry about being in in flat shoes and baggy khakis.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And it sounds stupid, but mentally it meant so much
- 9:13Speaker 1: to say this is who I am, and this is
- 9:16Speaker 1: who I'm going to be, and you know, take it
- 9:18Speaker 1: or leave it. Basically, you know, I understand believe that
- 9:22Speaker 1: because of the fact that you know, even I like
- 9:25Speaker 1: to dress. And this is not nowhere close to your conversation,
- 9:30Speaker 1: but it is about perception and what people can say
- 9:32Speaker 1: how are you supposed to look? And when I was right,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I mean my early years of writing, when everybody will
- 9:36Speaker 1: come in blue jeans and T shirt, I come in
- 9:38Speaker 1: the suit or vest or tie, and they will go,
- 9:41Speaker 1: why are you dressing like that? That said because I
- 9:43Speaker 1: like dressing like that. So people will will say, there's
- 9:46Speaker 1: a standard and the way you're supposed to look and
- 9:47Speaker 1: where you're supposed to act, and it will treat you accordingly. Well,
- 9:51Speaker 1: I fought, I fought in held onto my values and
- 9:54Speaker 1: that's all you're saying, hold on to your values, hold
- 9:56Speaker 1: on to you. Oh you are and you have a career.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But if you succumbed to the circumstances what people tell
- 10:03Speaker 1: you should look like, or you'd be comparing or with
- 10:06Speaker 1: what other females think about how you are moving up
- 10:09Speaker 1: the success ladder, then that can hold you back and
- 10:12Speaker 1: calls you to be not not reap the benefits of
- 10:14Speaker 1: your talent. And that's what you said. You just said, Hey,
- 10:18Speaker 1: this is who I am. Okay, deal with it, And
- 10:21Speaker 1: that's basically what you're saying in this interview. Correct a
- 10:24Speaker 1: thousand percent. You said it way more eloquently than I did.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But you've got that right, and you know, and it's
- 10:29Speaker 1: it continues and it still carries on. And you know,
- 10:32Speaker 1: when I was managing Snoop half the time, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: I'm dealing with other managers that just assumed that I
- 10:39Speaker 1: was not the person making the decisions. And in the beginning,
- 10:43Speaker 1: I think Snoop didn't think I was serious, and I'm like, watch,
- 10:46Speaker 1: they're not paying any attention to me. He's like, you're crazy,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and sure enough, like there was we were I forget
- 10:51Speaker 1: where we were, but at an event and someone was
- 10:53Speaker 1: pitching him on a big idea and they just completely
- 10:56Speaker 1: ignored me, look down on me. So I just walked
- 10:58Speaker 1: away from the conversation. And at the end of it,
- 11:00Speaker 1: the guy was like, well, where's your manager so I
- 11:01Speaker 1: can hit him up and you know, close the deal.
- 11:03Speaker 1: And Snoop just started laughing. He said, you know the
- 11:05Speaker 1: woman that was just standing here And the guy was
- 11:07Speaker 1: like mm hmmm, and he said, that's the manager. Are
- 11:10Speaker 1: good luck, brother. And I think that's such a key
- 11:16Speaker 1: thing is that I've always had the support of my clients,
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, whether it's Dion or stray Hand or Snoop
- 11:21Speaker 1: or with Khalifa. I think that's so important that they're
- 11:24Speaker 1: the ones that are just helping because I say it
- 11:27Speaker 1: all the time, Yes women need to lift women up,
- 11:30Speaker 1: but without the support of the men we work with
- 11:32Speaker 1: it's a feudal effort. And and that's the thing something
- 11:35Speaker 1: that people are starting to realize is it's it's good
- 11:38Speaker 1: to help each other. Like we all succeed, we win
- 11:41Speaker 1: as a team, we lose as a team. You know,
- 11:43Speaker 1: that's a big ethos for us here at SMACK is
- 11:46Speaker 1: if you don't play your position, we're not gonna win.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And no matter if you're the person getting someone a
- 11:52Speaker 1: coffee or a Starbucks or a t or you're the
- 11:55Speaker 1: person that's working on the budget for the next big
- 11:58Speaker 1: television show, everyone has an important role. And that's important.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So let me ask you this, because you know you
- 12:04Speaker 1: mentioned four very distinct individuals, Khalifa, Snoop the Um straight hand.
- 12:15Speaker 1: How do you balance that? How have you balanced that?
- 12:18Speaker 1: You know, because they all have opinions, they all are successful,
- 12:21Speaker 1: they're all right, they can they can go, they can
- 12:23Speaker 1: walk away, and they have continue to be successful at
- 12:26Speaker 1: a certain degree. I always like to believe that you
- 12:28Speaker 1: walk away with me, you're gonna stumble, you know, That's
- 12:30Speaker 1: that's that's the goal. Walk with me, You're stumbling. I'm
- 12:33Speaker 1: just telling you right now. So how do you deal
- 12:35Speaker 1: with how you balance their opinions? And what you feel
- 12:38Speaker 1: they should be doing from a suggestive standpoint, because you
- 12:41Speaker 1: don't want to act like you're telling them, but you
- 12:43Speaker 1: want to suggest this is directions or these are things
- 12:46Speaker 1: they should be doing. I always start the conversation off
- 12:50Speaker 1: when we're when we're talking to a new potential clients.
- 12:53Speaker 1: If you don't want my honest opinion, don't ask me,
- 12:57Speaker 1: because that's all I know how to be. It's just
- 12:59Speaker 1: keeping it one And I'm sure there have been times
- 13:02Speaker 1: that I probably could have been a little bit maybe
- 13:04Speaker 1: more subtle, but it's just the only way I know. Um.
- 13:09Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, you know, when
- 13:11Speaker 1: I do voice my opinion, I always remind them that
- 13:14Speaker 1: they're the boss and they have the final say. But
- 13:18Speaker 1: there's the big butt. You know, I'm able to come
- 13:20Speaker 1: at things from an objective standpoint, you know, way more
- 13:23Speaker 1: than they can. Just like I'm the worst negotiator for myself,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but for everybody around me, I will kill for them.
- 13:29Speaker 1: So I think it's a similar, um you know sort
- 13:32Speaker 1: of idea is that I really do have their best interests,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and you know, I think one of the main ways
- 13:39Speaker 1: that they understand that is if they're not making money,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I'm not making money. Right back, right back with more
- 13:46Speaker 1: constants and um money making Conversations, be right back. We'll
- 13:51Speaker 1: be right back with more from Martha McDonald and money
- 13:54Speaker 1: Making Conversations. Don't touch that down. I'm ras Sean McDonald.
- 14:01Speaker 1: My guests, he joined forces, were retired NFL Hall of
- 14:03Speaker 1: Fame at Michael Straighthand and launched Smack Entertainment, a sports
- 14:07Speaker 1: media and culture and multidimensional talent management, music branding and
- 14:11Speaker 1: production company. Please welcome back to money Making Conversation. Conscance Sworts,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Marini Constance. Let's get into the business side. My staff
- 14:20Speaker 1: and there they was like so impressed. They were like wow.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It was a lot of people going wow, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 1: because you know you you know, first of all, the
- 14:28Speaker 1: diversity of your roster, the personalities of roster. Now let's
- 14:32Speaker 1: get to the point of what you do. Executive producing
- 14:36Speaker 1: The Jokers Wild on TBS, one hundred thousand dollar Pyramid
- 14:40Speaker 1: on ABC, UH commercial Oreo commercials with wiz Um, launching
- 14:46Speaker 1: fashion lines with J. C. Penny for Michael Straighthand. Okay, now, okay,
- 14:55Speaker 1: now we'll see the people don't realize that, you know,
- 14:58Speaker 1: is that when you when you're management business is that
- 15:02Speaker 1: it's a different game. It's not an agency because you
- 15:05Speaker 1: you you you you're more of you're the brother, you're
- 15:09Speaker 1: the sister sometimes you know you know, you know you
- 15:12Speaker 1: the minister, you know you know you know mother, the father,
- 15:15Speaker 1: the uh, the the it's it's it's it can be
- 15:19Speaker 1: overwhelmed me and so I have to commend you on.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I know what it took with me and Steve, and
- 15:25Speaker 1: Steve became so big. It was just like whoa, because
- 15:27Speaker 1: you have to it's this negative stuff to come at you,
- 15:30Speaker 1: it's positive stuff coming you. Just it's just so many things.
- 15:32Speaker 1: You have to shield your clients. When your clients down,
- 15:35Speaker 1: you have to stay up. And so it's it's it's
- 15:39Speaker 1: really that people just don't understand you. You can't have
- 15:41Speaker 1: a bad day around your client because guess what, you
- 15:44Speaker 1: come around depressed. Guess what, that's not gonna work for
- 15:46Speaker 1: them because they're dealing with stuff you don't even know.
- 15:48Speaker 1: They can't go to a grocery store, they can't go outside.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Somebody post something, they post something, you know something they
- 15:55Speaker 1: if their social media can be un their attack. But
- 15:57Speaker 1: no reason. They all just wake up. Somebody just said
- 15:59Speaker 1: I don't stay I don't like this person, and you
- 16:02Speaker 1: have to protect that brand. And that's what you're doing.
- 16:04Speaker 1: You're protecting the brand and you growing brands, which is
- 16:08Speaker 1: more difficult. The growing Paul or the protection Paul depends
- 16:12Speaker 1: what day of the week and depends with what the
- 16:14Speaker 1: problems with your challenge we're facing. And you nailed it,
- 16:17Speaker 1: you know, because I don't know, you know what they're
- 16:20Speaker 1: going through. So I have to do my best. As
- 16:22Speaker 1: you say, we call it protect the asset, and that
- 16:25Speaker 1: does fall into many categories. I mean, my clients call
- 16:27Speaker 1: me Ray Donovan. You know half the time, I haven't
- 16:29Speaker 1: killed anybody, but you know, but you know what, you
- 16:33Speaker 1: know what what we have to do. Um. So I
- 16:36Speaker 1: think once you get that level of trust with your clients,
- 16:40Speaker 1: then you can grow the brand. You know, so they
- 16:42Speaker 1: know that you're going to protect them. I mean I
- 16:44Speaker 1: get the first phone call, you know, I always tell them.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I said, I don't care what you tell your spouse,
- 16:49Speaker 1: I don't care what you tell your parents. I don't
- 16:50Speaker 1: even care what you tell your publicist or your lawyer.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I need to know the truth because in order for
- 16:56Speaker 1: me to navigate what our plan and our strategy is,
- 16:59Speaker 1: you know, if it. If we're dealing with a challenge,
- 17:01Speaker 1: then I have to know every side of it. And
- 17:04Speaker 1: so I think that's a big, big piece of it.
- 17:06Speaker 1: And you know that better than anybody's. You've got to
- 17:08Speaker 1: get that trust. Once that's established, then you grow the brand.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And it's not easy. Everyone has a different um, you know,
- 17:15Speaker 1: goal in different paths. You know, I worked really closely
- 17:18Speaker 1: with Aaron Andrews for a couple of years now, and
- 17:20Speaker 1: what we're doing with hers is really exciting because she's
- 17:24Speaker 1: the best in the business. She's she checks all the boxes,
- 17:27Speaker 1: you know, for sports and entertainment, and it's like, what's
- 17:30Speaker 1: the next step for her? And so, you know, we
- 17:33Speaker 1: sit down and we have so many meetings and whether
- 17:35Speaker 1: it's figuring out a scripted project or executive producing a
- 17:38Speaker 1: non scripted project, a clothing line for her, you know,
- 17:41Speaker 1: something with an anchor in sports. So it really is
- 17:44Speaker 1: just doing deep does with everybody and figuring it out.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I mean, hopefully you saw Dion's thirty for thirty that
- 17:50Speaker 1: aired on ESPN a couple of weeks ago. He didn't
- 17:54Speaker 1: you know how many years it took us to get
- 17:56Speaker 1: him to open up. I mean, I've been working with
- 17:58Speaker 1: him now for ten plus years, and it was just finally,
- 18:02Speaker 1: I think the trust the right time. He knew that,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know, Strahan and I were co executive producing with
- 18:09Speaker 1: NFL Films, and his story would be told in the
- 18:12Speaker 1: right manner. And it was not in the easy process
- 18:16Speaker 1: because as you're seeing, you know, the story evolved. There's
- 18:20Speaker 1: two sides to every story, and so we had to
- 18:22Speaker 1: get him really comfortable with the other side, you know,
- 18:26Speaker 1: giving their point of view and knowing that in his heart,
- 18:29Speaker 1: how he played it was a thousand percent right. And
- 18:31Speaker 1: so I think that sort of checked all the boxes
- 18:34Speaker 1: of protecting the brand and growing the brand, because the
- 18:37Speaker 1: one thing that everyone was saying across the board about
- 18:40Speaker 1: that was wow, I had no idea what a great
- 18:44Speaker 1: athlete he was. I had no idea what he went
- 18:46Speaker 1: through and the message that he's giving for kids in
- 18:50Speaker 1: today's world that it's okay to play to sports, it's
- 18:54Speaker 1: okay to go after two majors, it's okay to have
- 18:57Speaker 1: two different careers in mind, It's okay, you can do it.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And this is you know, years ago, so and it
- 19:04Speaker 1: was so perfectly tied with the Kyler Murray situation that
- 19:07Speaker 1: popped up was like wow. It was wow. But here's
- 19:11Speaker 1: the cool thing about we just say, just like my
- 19:14Speaker 1: little brother, you know. And because he is a person
- 19:17Speaker 1: who has the you know, I would tell Dion and
- 19:20Speaker 1: we're gonna is that he created Brandy because here's a
- 19:23Speaker 1: guy eighteen years old prime time. He figured it out.
- 19:27Speaker 1: He figured out, Okay, I'm gonna just keep saying prime
- 19:30Speaker 1: time because somebody understand that's me. He started athletes, he
- 19:34Speaker 1: started Brandon before Brandon was even relevant, and he just
- 19:37Speaker 1: took it to the next level. And that's why it's
- 19:39Speaker 1: important when I look at talent like you because of
- 19:42Speaker 1: the word management. And so because I had to deal
- 19:45Speaker 1: with this, and I know you're dealt with it. Because
- 19:46Speaker 1: people hear the word manager, they just they would dismiss
- 19:49Speaker 1: you like your buddy, like you're their friends, the babysitter.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And I was always tell people. I was telling, Okay, okay,
- 19:56Speaker 1: you're gonna come back and talk to me in a minute.
- 20:01Speaker 1: She said the story about somebody was talking about I
- 20:03Speaker 1: remember what was at the Magic show, Magic Show of
- 20:05Speaker 1: where you're going do all these clothing lines? And she
- 20:08Speaker 1: knows about the Magic Show in Las Vegas, and and
- 20:11Speaker 1: and Steve Harvin was walking and they just ignoring me,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and and I just let them walk with Steve and
- 20:16Speaker 1: and they said, and they finally go, who should we
- 20:18Speaker 1: talk to? That guy will over there that was with
- 20:22Speaker 1: us is the one you should be talking to because
- 20:28Speaker 1: because he thought I was just born, this boy don't
- 20:30Speaker 1: know anything. And I know that's really important for you
- 20:33Speaker 1: that you know the business. And people need to understand
- 20:36Speaker 1: is that when you get into business, know the business.
- 20:39Speaker 1: That's the only way you're gonna hang around. She's just
- 20:41Speaker 1: not a name of an executiveduce. A lot of people
- 20:44Speaker 1: do that. They put their name on executive. She's an active,
- 20:47Speaker 1: working executive producer. She knows that the budget, she knows
- 20:50Speaker 1: the cast, he knows the production schedule. That's so important
- 20:54Speaker 1: in this process if you're gonna get the trust of
- 20:57Speaker 1: your talent, because your talent as your question you can't answer,
- 21:01Speaker 1: and they keep asking that same question and you don't
- 21:03Speaker 1: have an answer, they're actually gonna look someplace else. It's
- 21:07Speaker 1: very true. And I think what's important, which which you've
- 21:10Speaker 1: mastered as well, is when we don't know the answer,
- 21:12Speaker 1: it's okay for us to say we're going to go
- 21:14Speaker 1: find out from someone that does. And I think that's
- 21:16Speaker 1: a really important skill set because we don't know everything.
- 21:20Speaker 1: We can't know everything, you know what. That's where we
- 21:22Speaker 1: have great teams of agents and lawyers and publicists and
- 21:25Speaker 1: specialists and researchers, because it's how can we know all
- 21:29Speaker 1: of this? That's why all those people are getting paid
- 21:31Speaker 1: a lot of money. So I tap into our team
- 21:34Speaker 1: daily only. Let let's get to my my favorite part
- 21:37Speaker 1: of the interview. You launched with Michael straighthand clothing Lot
- 21:42Speaker 1: and clothing Accessory with J. C. Patty? How did that
- 21:46Speaker 1: come about? And and and tell me the backstory on that.
- 21:51Speaker 1: A very good friend of mine, Arian Romano, who we
- 21:54Speaker 1: worked together at the NFL, works for PVH And when
- 21:58Speaker 1: Strahan started working on Kelly and Michael, he needed a
- 22:02Speaker 1: lot of suits and ties. And so I went to
- 22:05Speaker 1: her and I said, hey, can you help me out,
- 22:07Speaker 1: you know, with whatever you guys have for him. You know,
- 22:10Speaker 1: we'll figure something out. She said, I can only do
- 22:12Speaker 1: the ties, but let me introduce you to a guy
- 22:15Speaker 1: named Richie Wertzburger over at Peerless, and I'm sure they
- 22:18Speaker 1: can work something out with you guys or some suits.
- 22:20Speaker 1: So we go over there and they couldn't have been nicer.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And you know, Michael and Richie and his father had
- 22:25Speaker 1: a great relationship, and a few I think probably a
- 22:29Speaker 1: few months after it, Richie said to us, listen, um,
- 22:31Speaker 1: you know Michael wear suits so well. J C. Pennies, Yes,
- 22:36Speaker 1: he does. And J. C. Pennies is looking for, um,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you know, expanding in the men's line. And I said, well,
- 22:42Speaker 1: who better than Michael because six days, sometimes seven days
- 22:45Speaker 1: a week, twice a day, this guy's wearing a suit.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And we we met with them, um goll yeah. I
- 22:51Speaker 1: think it was about six years ago, but the timing
- 22:54Speaker 1: wasn't right and they said, we get it, but we're
- 22:57Speaker 1: just not ready. And we said, we understand, and we're
- 23:00Speaker 1: to wait because who wants to rush into a bad deal.
- 23:03Speaker 1: And so they came back to us about a year
- 23:05Speaker 1: later and they said, let's develop this and we just
- 23:08Speaker 1: started with suits, shirts and ties. And I got to say,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and you know, your boy, he is so hands on
- 23:14Speaker 1: with this and not one article of clothing that hits
- 23:18Speaker 1: the stories that he hasn't felt the fabric, moved the
- 23:20Speaker 1: zipp or changed the button, change the fabric. It's you know, authenticity.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I mean that's the key to success, authenticity. If your
- 23:28Speaker 1: name's on it, you better own it, good and bad.
- 23:31Speaker 1: He Constance. Here's here's a deal. First of all, we connected, Um,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I want to tell your story more. I hope you
- 23:38Speaker 1: have to help your time in the future. I'm not
- 23:40Speaker 1: gonna bug you next month, but I want to bring
- 23:42Speaker 1: you back on and I would love it. And let's
- 23:45Speaker 1: talk because everybody just do you. Was blown away by
- 23:48Speaker 1: your story, because that's why I wanted to bring you
- 23:50Speaker 1: on the show. Because you're so strong, You're you. You're
