Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome.
- 0:01Speaker 2: It is the Ben Ferguson Podcasts and it is a
- 0:04Speaker 2: dual show with Senator Ted Cruz and I as we
- 0:07Speaker 2: just got finished watching the vice presidential debate.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Senator you just watched it.
- 0:13Speaker 2: We got to watch it together, you got to commentate
- 0:16Speaker 2: on Hannity afterwards. And your initial takeaway from this debate.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I thought JD had a pretty good night.
- 0:23Speaker 3: He had an excellent, excellent night. It is eleven o
- 0:25Speaker 3: five pm, just after the debate. As you noted, I
- 0:28Speaker 3: just finished doing Hannity and talking about the debate. I
- 0:32Speaker 3: think this was a good night for America. The winner
- 0:35Speaker 3: of the debate tonight was Donald Trump. The loser of
- 0:39Speaker 3: the debate tonight was Kamala Harris. Yeah, both candidates I
- 0:44Speaker 3: think did an effective job. Tim Waltz was frankly better
- 0:47Speaker 3: than I expected, but he had a very difficult case
- 0:51Speaker 3: to make because his job was to defend Kamala Harris's record.
- 0:55Speaker 3: And the reason that I think it was such a
- 0:57Speaker 3: good night for Trump is I think JD did a
- 0:59Speaker 3: good job job of prosecuting Kamala Harris's actual record. She
- 1:05Speaker 3: is desperately, desperately, desperately trying to run away from her
- 1:08Speaker 3: record trying to hide in the basement. And tonight the
- 1:11Speaker 3: contrast was made between the incredible successes on the border,
- 1:15Speaker 3: on the economy, on foreign policy under Donald Trump as
- 1:18Speaker 3: compared to the incredible failures on the border, on the economy,
- 1:22Speaker 3: on foreign policy under Kamala Harris and and and that
- 1:25Speaker 3: stark divide was there. I think Tim Waltz tried mightily
- 1:32Speaker 3: to pretend the record didn't exist. But but but there
- 1:35Speaker 3: were some rough moments because he couldn't deny reality. And
- 1:39Speaker 3: and and it really goes to the to the fundamental
- 1:42Speaker 3: core conceit of the Kamala Harris campaign, which is she
- 1:45Speaker 3: is trying to live in this alternate reality where she
- 1:50Speaker 3: is the change candidate and Donald J. Trump is the
- 1:54Speaker 3: incumbent president, and that is not in fact the planet
- 1:58Speaker 3: on which we live. And and I think JD did
- 2:00Speaker 3: a good job multiple times of saying, gosh, if she
- 2:03Speaker 3: has all these policy proposals, why isn't she doing any
- 2:06Speaker 3: of them now?
- 2:07Speaker 1: Yeah, for the last three and a half years.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And Walts has no answer to that other than well, well,
- 2:12Speaker 3: what's happening now isn't working, So that's the problem.
- 2:14Speaker 2: There was one funny part of the debate that I laughed,
- 2:17Speaker 2: And it was when he was talking about how none
- 2:20Speaker 2: of the wall was actually built, and then it was
- 2:23Speaker 2: like he realized, oh wait, maybe I don't want to
- 2:25Speaker 2: go that far with this point because she's got an
- 2:27Speaker 2: ad out showing down on Trump's wall, and he was
- 2:30Speaker 2: like he kind of backpedaled on.
- 2:31Speaker 1: He's like, well, you guys didn't build much of that wall.
- 2:33Speaker 2: It's like, well, now, didn't she just say, didn't know
- 2:36Speaker 2: you're here to represent just say we got to have
- 2:39Speaker 2: a secure border, build a wall.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Well, and you could tell that Waltz was uncomfortable defending
- 2:44Speaker 3: Kamala's record because he kept trying to go back to
- 2:47Speaker 3: Minnesota over and over ageing, Yeah, look at what I've
- 2:49Speaker 3: done in Minnesota. Look at what I've done in Minnesota.
- 2:51Speaker 3: It's like, wait a second, you're not the candidate for president.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Kamala Harris says, she's been the vice president. And I
- 2:59Speaker 3: thought in particular, the strongest moments of the debate were
- 3:02Speaker 3: on economics and the impact for working men and women,
- 3:08Speaker 3: that that just people's lives are harder, that the cost
- 3:11Speaker 3: of everything has gone up, the cost of food, the
- 3:13Speaker 3: cost of healthcare, the cost of UH gasoline. And I
- 3:17Speaker 3: thought on the cost of housing, I think jd Vance
- 3:21Speaker 3: made a good point of Look eleven and a half
- 3:23Speaker 3: million illegal immigrants, do you think that's driving up the cost
- 3:25Speaker 3: of housing? And I will say two of the losers
- 3:29Speaker 3: tonight were sitting in the moderator chairs and and and
- 3:33Speaker 3: that they they seem to be trying to topple prior
- 3:36Speaker 3: moderators for for the biggest partisan hacks of a debate.
- 3:40Speaker 3: I thought CBS's moderators, Nora O'Donnell and Margaret Brennan did
- 3:45Speaker 3: did a terrible job. Uh, there is not a person
- 3:49Speaker 3: in the universe who watched this debate who has any
- 3:51Speaker 3: doubt either of them is like that, none whatsoever.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, there, And the best part was you and I
- 3:59Speaker 2: were watching it again, And it's fun to watch these
- 4:01Speaker 2: things together because I was sitting there. And one of
- 4:03Speaker 2: the things that made me laugh was when they did
- 4:04Speaker 2: their hands off to each other. It was like, thinking,
- 4:07Speaker 2: we have to make we have so many important they
- 4:08Speaker 2: think you to back over to you. It was like
- 4:10Speaker 2: I was watching Anchorman outtakes and it was like, we
- 4:12Speaker 2: are so official journalistic here and we're going to be wonky.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And and then they would immediately go back in their
- 4:19Speaker 2: hardest in their partisan hackery, which was when they muted him.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Yes, no, no, that was wow.
- 4:25Speaker 1: That really was the moment.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I tweeted, I said, when that happened, I tweeted, I
- 4:29Speaker 2: was like in communist countries they mute microphones. They just
- 4:33Speaker 2: did it during the Vice president of debate that if
- 4:36Speaker 2: you want to know if the state sponsored media, yeah,
- 4:39Speaker 2: they just did it.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I really was waiting for them, you know, you made
- 4:43Speaker 3: the Acreman equip as We're watching the debate, and I
- 4:45Speaker 3: was really waiting for one of them to lean over
- 4:47Speaker 3: as Ron Burgundy and say, screw you, Sandiego and I'm
- 4:51Speaker 3: cleaning the language up a little bit from the actual
- 4:53Speaker 3: line of the movie. But but it was number one,
- 4:58Speaker 3: stilted their mindating number two. It was incredibly smarmy and condescending.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Their entire attitude is we know better than all of you.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And by the way, the things they interrupted, they were
- 5:08Speaker 3: supposed to not do fact checks. When they did do them,
- 5:11Speaker 3: they were wrong, and they were completely self satisfied. And
- 5:15Speaker 3: the moment when they cut off jd Vance's microphone was pitiful.
- 5:21Speaker 3: It was nakedly biased. It was hackery. It was nothing
- 5:25Speaker 3: but partisan hackery, and I think CBS really got a
- 5:29Speaker 3: black eye.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I think that could hurt them for real when it
- 5:32Speaker 2: comes to people watching, and it's really hard to defend
- 5:35Speaker 2: that they were nonpartisan when they did that. I want
- 5:37Speaker 2: to take a moment and tell you about us a
- 5:40Speaker 2: product that very well could help save your life and
- 5:43Speaker 2: actually the life of someone else at the very same time,
- 5:47Speaker 2: and it deals with personal protection. There is a massive
- 5:51Speaker 2: increase in crime and violence around our country, and we
- 5:55Speaker 2: need to remember that personal safety and security for you
- 5:59Speaker 2: and your family is the most important thing in life.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Now.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for
- 6:04Speaker 2: having a firearm on a day that I had to
- 6:06Speaker 2: use it to literally save my life when I was
- 6:09Speaker 2: under attack from two attackers. And I know just how
- 6:12Speaker 2: fast it can happen and how important it is to
- 6:15Speaker 2: protect yourself. And that's why I talk about this so often. Now,
- 6:20Speaker 2: what if there was a way to effectively defend yourself
- 6:23Speaker 2: and de escalate a situation without having to use the
- 6:27Speaker 2: irreversible consequence as a deadly force. I've grappled with that
- 6:31Speaker 2: issue many times. Well, now there is another option, so
- 6:36Speaker 2: you don't have to worry about pulling the trigger or
- 6:39Speaker 2: worrying about the financial or mental repercussions. You don't have
- 6:44Speaker 2: to compromise on your peace of mind. And that is
- 6:47Speaker 2: because of the burna less lethal pistol launcher. Let me
- 6:51Speaker 2: say this, if you have children that are eighteen or older,
- 6:55Speaker 2: if you have a mother in law, a sister in law,
- 6:58Speaker 2: a wife, this may be the perfect thing for them.
- 7:02Speaker 2: A burner can save two lives. It is a great
- 7:05Speaker 2: compliment to owning firearms, and if you or your family
- 7:09Speaker 2: is in a situation where you feel threatened, then you
- 7:11Speaker 2: can start with less lethal It is legal in all
- 7:14Speaker 2: fifty states. No permits or background checks are needed.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Now.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I own these myself, and I got them for every
- 7:20Speaker 2: one of my family members that I just mentioned, because
- 7:23Speaker 2: that is how important it is to be able to
- 7:25Speaker 2: protect yourself. The burner launcher has powerful determines like tear
- 7:28Speaker 2: gas and connectic grounds and a sixty foot range. One
- 7:32Speaker 2: shot can incapacitate attackers for up to forty minutes. It
- 7:36Speaker 2: is used by government agencies and law enforcement around the country.

- 7:54Speaker 2: Slash ferguson for ten percent off your first purchase sentator.
- 7:58Speaker 2: I want to go back to the beginning of the debate,
- 8:01Speaker 2: and the first question coming into the debate was one
- 8:04Speaker 2: I think we all knew it was going to be
- 8:05Speaker 2: on Israel and the attack on Israel from Iran, and
- 8:10Speaker 2: Waltz was very, very very nervous, you could tell. But
- 8:14Speaker 2: he also didn't know what to do because there's a
- 8:17Speaker 2: hard part of the Democratic Party, especially him in Minnesota, YEP,
- 8:21Speaker 2: with the extremists there that hate Israel and they're the
- 8:25Speaker 2: ones that are protesting and supporting the terrorists. And when
- 8:28Speaker 2: he came out, he had a little bit of an
- 8:29Speaker 2: oops listen carefully.
- 8:32Speaker 3: I ran.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Israel's ability to be able to defend itself as absolutely
- 8:37Speaker 4: fundamental getting its hostages.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Back it's hostages. But I was like, come on, man,
- 8:43Speaker 2: you got to do a little bit better than this.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But it tells you where the Democratic Party is right now.
- 8:47Speaker 2: They don't want to come out and defend Israel too much,
- 8:50Speaker 2: but they know they have to defend him on the
- 8:51Speaker 2: face tonight.
- 8:52Speaker 1: And it was this weird, awkward moment for him.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Well, and look, he had a talking point that was
- 8:59Speaker 3: written for him for his handlers, by his handlers. That
- 9:04Speaker 3: was to say, Israel has a right to defend itself
- 9:07Speaker 3: and the hostages should be returned. And so those are
- 9:09Speaker 3: the two sentences he was told to say. And then
- 9:12Speaker 3: he immediately said, but we have to address the humanitarian
- 9:14Speaker 3: crisis in Gaza, because that's really what the Democrat Party
- 9:17Speaker 3: is worried about, is that too many Hamas and Hezbela
- 9:21Speaker 3: terrorists are being killed. And so he had to throw
- 9:23Speaker 3: that in. What he didn't say, you know what, he
- 9:26Speaker 3: didn't say a word about Iran attacking Israel, firing, not
- 9:30Speaker 3: a word at Israel. Look, Iran just just pummeled Israel
- 9:35Speaker 3: with missiles and that is a major escalation. Now Iran
- 9:38Speaker 3: has been funding Hamas and funding Hesbel that's been fighting
- 9:41Speaker 3: through proxies. But this is now Iran directly attacking Israel.
- 9:45Speaker 3: And the question he was asked is would he support
- 9:50Speaker 3: Israel striking back? And you know what he didn't answer.
- 9:55Speaker 3: He not want to answer. He did not want to
- 9:57Speaker 3: answer at all. And you know, critically the opening of
- 10:04Speaker 3: his answer, Tim Waltz's answer was this crisis began on
- 10:10Speaker 3: October seventh. Well, that's actually wrong. This crisis began in
- 10:16Speaker 3: January of twenty twenty one, when Joe Biden and Kamala
- 10:19Speaker 3: Harris came in. Yeah, when they began flooding one hundred
- 10:23Speaker 3: billion dollars to Iran, that's when the crisis. And by
- 10:27Speaker 3: the way, when they came in, remember what was happening.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Just weeks before, we had peace flourishing in the Middle East.
- 10:35Speaker 3: We had the Abraham Accords signed on the south lawn
- 10:38Speaker 3: of the White House. I was there for the signing
- 10:40Speaker 3: of the Abraham Accords. You know what, not a single
- 10:42Speaker 3: Democrat showed up for the signing of the Abraham Accords.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Not a single Democrat Senator, not a single Democrat house member.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I did not realize that none of them showed up.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And that was the deal that dealt with the word
- 10:54Speaker 1: they're obsession with, which is peace.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Right, Yes, it was. It was historic peace. It was
- 11:00Speaker 3: the Arabs and the Israelis coming together and signing historic
- 11:04Speaker 3: peace accords. And not only did no Democrats sign up
- 11:08Speaker 3: at the signing end. Do you know what Joe Biden
- 11:10Speaker 3: Kamala Harris instructed the State Department what was that in writing?
- 11:14Speaker 3: They said, you were not allowed to use the words
- 11:16Speaker 3: Abraham Accords. Don't even call them real what they were called.
- 11:21Speaker 3: They were instructed to call them normalization agreements, but do
- 11:24Speaker 3: not use apparently acknowledging Father Abraham as too much. Yeah,
- 11:30Speaker 3: and anything that Trump did, they were not allowed to
- 11:32Speaker 3: make reference to. But explicitly the State Department was instructed,
- 11:36Speaker 3: don't use the words Abraham Acords. So we went from
- 11:39Speaker 3: historic peace, the first peace agreements signed between Israelis and
- 11:44Speaker 3: Arabs in four decades, to suddenly Joe Biden, Kamala Harris
- 11:50Speaker 3: come in and they start flooding cash into Iran, and
- 11:53Speaker 3: Iran starts flooding cash into Hamas and Hezbela that paid
- 11:57Speaker 3: for the death squads on October seventh, and Tim Waltz
- 12:01Speaker 3: had not a word to say about that, not a
- 12:03Speaker 3: word to say about the one hundred billion dollars that
- 12:06Speaker 3: Kamala Harris gave as a gift to Iran. And you
- 12:09Speaker 3: know what is still giving today today Joe Biden and
- 12:15Speaker 3: Kamala Harris still refuse to enforce the oil sanctions against Iran.
- 12:19Speaker 3: They are literally funding the missiles that were fired on
- 12:22Speaker 3: Iran today in a very real sense, Kamala Harris paid
- 12:26Speaker 3: for those missiles.
- 12:26Speaker 1: It's shocking.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Also the media when you're watching this, they didn't ask
- 12:29Speaker 2: about sanctions. They also didn't ask about Hearris and what
- 12:32Speaker 2: the response should be from this administration, right because she's
- 12:35Speaker 2: in there.
- 12:36Speaker 3: To be fair, they did. Their question was, would you
- 12:40Speaker 3: support a preemptive strike by Israel against Iran? In and
- 12:44Speaker 3: now it's not actually preempted because it is in responseory attack.
- 12:47Speaker 3: So the word preemptive is a loaded lefty word. It's
- 12:51Speaker 3: not preemptive if you're defending yourself after you've been attacked.
- 12:54Speaker 3: But that was the question they asked. And to be clear,
- 12:58Speaker 3: when asked, would you support Tamala is the sitting VP?
- 13:01Speaker 3: And we know Joe Biden is non COMPASSMENTUS. I don't
- 13:04Speaker 3: know if he's passed out on the beach of Delaware
- 13:06Speaker 3: or what he's doing.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But he did spend almost two hours on the phone,
- 13:10Speaker 2: he said this weekend talking about hurricane stuff.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Almost two hours. Well, you know, and look, that's a
- 13:16Speaker 1: lot of time for him.
- 13:17Speaker 3: I believe that because when my girls were young, we
- 13:19Speaker 3: had an app on the phone that was the wheels
- 13:21Speaker 3: on the bus go round and round, and I believe
- 13:23Speaker 3: he spent two hours on the phone, perhaps with an
- 13:26Speaker 3: app like that.
- 13:27Speaker 2: But the question that they should have asked was, are you, guys,
- 13:29Speaker 2: what would you do differently? What would you advocate for?
- 13:32Speaker 2: What would you support sanctions? I mean you and I
- 13:34Speaker 2: talked about this in our show on Monday. There was
- 13:37Speaker 2: if and correct me if my numbers are wrong, but
- 13:39Speaker 2: I'm quoting you. It was three hundred thousand barrels a
- 13:44Speaker 2: day is what a RAM was producing when Trump was
- 13:46Speaker 2: in office.
- 13:46Speaker 1: It's now two million barrels.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Well, and I wish JD had provided more specifics on that.
- 13:52Speaker 3: That answer could have been tighter with more facts on it.
- 13:56Speaker 2: The question I wish they would have asked them is
- 13:59Speaker 2: both them like, hey guys, are you would you right now?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Should there move more sanctions or should they be enforcing
- 14:06Speaker 2: the sanctions? Or even the question, hey, why is your
- 14:08Speaker 2: running mate Kamala Harris not doing.
- 14:10Speaker 3: More to enforce the sanctions they stop a RAN from
- 14:13Speaker 3: murdering Donald Trump?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Yes, And that didn't come up tonight, which I was
- 14:16Speaker 2: also shocked by because we talked about this again in
- 14:20Speaker 2: Monday's pod. You have a RAN that's funding and recruiting
- 14:26Speaker 2: assassins to takeout Donald Trump and other former leaders in
- 14:29Speaker 2: our government. And as they're doing that, no one asked
- 14:33Speaker 2: that question tonight.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, look at it now. I will say a point
- 14:37Speaker 3: that Jad made on this that was very effective is
- 14:40Speaker 3: when he looked at the camera and he asked the
- 14:42Speaker 3: American people, he said, think back in your lifetime, what
- 14:47Speaker 3: president has not had a major military conflict during his presidency?
- 14:52Speaker 3: And he said, I'm forty years old, and there's only
- 14:54Speaker 3: one president that you could answer yes to, and that
- 14:58Speaker 3: is Donald J.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Trumpe.
- 15:00Speaker 3: That was a very effective point, and I think it
- 15:02Speaker 3: probably made some people think. And Waltz had no response
- 15:05Speaker 3: to that other than well, well, but you know, I
- 15:08Speaker 3: don't like Trump, and other people don't like Trump either.
- 15:10Speaker 3: But the simple point that we had peace when Trump
- 15:15Speaker 3: was president and we now have war, not just in
- 15:19Speaker 3: Israel but in Ukraine. When you have a week in
- 15:21Speaker 3: an effective commander in chief, that contrast was pretty stark.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I also thought there was another narrative tonight that really
- 15:27Speaker 2: got blown up, and that was the obsession by the
- 15:30Speaker 2: media to label JD Vance's strange or weird. He's a
- 15:34Speaker 2: weird guy's odd. I think he came across as very likable,
- 15:39Speaker 2: very normal, came across as a dad. And I think
- 15:43Speaker 2: that also could help Donald Trump significantly.
- 15:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, look, I think that's right. And I
- 15:49Speaker 3: will say one of the things that surprised me. I
- 15:52Speaker 3: thought this debate was going to be nasty. You and
- 15:55Speaker 3: I both said that before. You were like, dude, they
- 15:57Speaker 3: don't like each other. We both knew that, but I
- 15:58Speaker 3: thought it was going to be nasty. To Look, my
- 16:01Speaker 3: sense is that they really dislike each other, although to
- 16:03Speaker 3: be fair, I haven't talked to JD about that, so
- 16:05Speaker 3: I don't know firsthand from him. It just the appearance
- 16:09Speaker 3: from the media and the general milieu as it appears
- 16:12Speaker 3: that neither one of them likes each other. And so
- 16:15Speaker 3: I thought, you know, I'd used an analogy that are
- 16:18Speaker 3: gonna be rolling around in the mud, this is gonna
- 16:20Speaker 3: be a mud wrestling match, and it wasn't. And both
- 16:23Speaker 3: of them, neither of them had even a single really
- 16:28Speaker 3: nasty line, which which is a little surprising. If you'd
- 16:31Speaker 3: asked me to bet beforehand, I would have I would
- 16:34Speaker 3: have bet it's more likely that they each had a
- 16:36Speaker 3: dozen nasty lines at each other than Nero and it
- 16:40Speaker 3: and in fact, both of them more than once praised
- 16:44Speaker 3: the other one, which was an interesting I don't know
- 16:49Speaker 3: if that how much of that was genuine, how much
- 16:52Speaker 3: of that was strategic, how much of the campaign said, Look,
- 16:55Speaker 3: your job is to be likable and relatable.
- 16:57Speaker 1: But but and if it was, it was a great strategy.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yeah, And both did so multiple times said said, you know,
- 17:05Speaker 3: look when when Tim Waltz described how his son had
- 17:08Speaker 3: witnessed a shooting and which which I didn't know either,
- 17:12Speaker 3: and that's that's horrific. You and I are both dads,
- 17:14Speaker 3: certainly wouldn't want our kids to see a shooting. And
- 17:19Speaker 3: I thought JD when it came back and said, hey,
- 17:21Speaker 3: I didn't know your son had done that. I'm really sorry.
- 17:23Speaker 3: That's that's like horrible one, no one, that's horrible. That
- 17:27Speaker 3: was real and genuine, and I thought, and there were
- 17:29Speaker 3: moments back and forth for both of them like that.
- 17:31Speaker 2: When you look at how this played out tonight, you
- 17:33Speaker 2: and I have said this before, and you go back
- 17:35Speaker 2: in history. VP debates don't really usually matter. Does it
- 17:41Speaker 2: matter a little bit more this time?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Do you think?
- 17:43Speaker 2: Because there was only one present debate Number one and two,
- 17:46Speaker 2: Because if Donald Trump is he's running for four years, right,
- 17:50Speaker 2: He's not. There's no chance at eight years here does
- 17:53Speaker 2: that change the perception of voters as well?
- 17:56Speaker 3: Look damned if I know. I will say I think
- 18:01Speaker 3: this probably mattered at the end of the day. Historically,
- 18:04Speaker 3: VP debates don't matter much. If you think back to
- 18:09Speaker 3: VP debates about the only time, I'm willing to guess
- 18:14Speaker 3: you could only remember one moment, two moments from VP debates,
- 18:17Speaker 3: you probably remember the fly landing on Mike Pence's head.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And that will be seared into my brain forever. Yes,
- 18:23Speaker 2: especially since Saturday Night Live had a giant fly and
- 18:26Speaker 2: then they did a good job. They did a great
- 18:27Speaker 2: job with that.
- 18:28Speaker 3: But the only line I bet you you can quote,
- 18:31Speaker 3: and you're about as much of a political junkie as anyone,
- 18:33Speaker 3: is the only line I bet you can quote is
- 18:35Speaker 3: Lloyd Benson to Dan Quayle saying I knew Jack Kennedy.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Jack Kennedy was my friend.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and Senator, you're no jud Kennedy bingo, and that
- 18:44Speaker 2: that was a line.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And that was that was what was that eighty eight
- 18:48Speaker 1: or nine?
- 18:48Speaker 3: That was it was? It was Ducaccus Benson eighty eight
- 18:53Speaker 3: And by the way, Dan Quayle and George Bush won.
- 18:55Speaker 3: So it didn't change the outcome of election. It did
- 18:58Speaker 3: kind of see in public consciousness. That was one of
- 19:02Speaker 3: the moments where where the caricature of Quail as a
- 19:05Speaker 3: lightweight that that line it hurt him. It was clearly rehearsed,
- 19:12Speaker 3: it was landed very effectively, which is why three decades
- 19:17Speaker 3: later we're talking about it.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and it was also I think to find Dan
- 19:21Speaker 2: quaill as a candidate on his own yeap, which was
- 19:24Speaker 2: sad well.
- 19:25Speaker 3: And and the reason it was prepared is because Quail
- 19:28Speaker 3: had been using as a talking point, you know, I'm
- 19:30Speaker 3: the same age Jack Kennedy Wash because he was trying
- 19:33Speaker 3: to say I'm not inexperienced.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And he looked young if you remember, he looked really
- 19:38Speaker 1: look at he was twenty six.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was Benson was very able to deliver
- 19:43Speaker 3: that line. And it was but historically VP debates have
- 19:47Speaker 3: not moved votes one way or the other. I will
- 19:51Speaker 3: say I was glad So for most of the debate,
- 19:56Speaker 3: Jad remembered that his target was Kamala Harrison, not Tim Waltz.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he said that a lot. He used her name
- 20:03Speaker 1: a lot.
- 20:04Speaker 3: And in fact, one of the better moments, and I
- 20:06Speaker 3: want you to play this clip. Is is where j
- 20:08Speaker 3: D said said to Tim Waltz said, you've got a
- 20:12Speaker 3: really tough job. I feel bad for how tough a
- 20:14Speaker 3: job you have. And it was sort of it was
- 20:17Speaker 3: damning him with faint praise because it was a backheaded
- 20:20Speaker 3: shot at Kamala. Or play that exchange, all.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Right, take a listen to this clip.
- 20:24Speaker 2: It is actually a really funny one where you have
- 20:28Speaker 2: JD saying it's tough having your job having to defend
- 20:31Speaker 2: Kamala Harris ober.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Waltz just did as he said, first of all, Donald
- 20:35Speaker 4: Trump has to listen to the experts. And then when
- 20:38Speaker 4: he acknowledged that the experts screwed up, he said, well,
- 20:39Speaker 4: Donald Trump didn't do nearly as good of a job
- 20:42Speaker 4: as this.
- 20:42Speaker 3: That's general he did. So what Tim Waltz is doing.
- 20:45Speaker 3: And I honestly, Tim, I think.
- 20:47Speaker 4: You got a tough job here because you've got.
- 20:49Speaker 3: To play whack a mole.
- 20:50Speaker 4: You've got to pretend that Donald Trump didn't deliver rising take.
- 20:53Speaker 3: Home pay, which of course he did.
- 20:54Speaker 4: You've got to pretend that Donald Trump didn't deliver lower inflation,
- 20:58Speaker 4: which of course he did. And then you signed multaneously
- 21:00Speaker 4: got to defend Kamala Harris's atrocious economic record, which has
- 21:04Speaker 4: made gas, groceries and housing unaffordable fair American citizens. I
- 21:08Speaker 4: was raised by a woman who would sometimes go into
- 21:11Speaker 4: medical debt so that she could put food on the
- 21:14Speaker 4: table in our household. I know what it's like to
- 21:17Speaker 4: not be able to afford the things that you need
- 21:19Speaker 4: to afford. We can do so much better to all
- 21:22Speaker 4: of you watching. We can get back to an America
- 21:24Speaker 4: that's affordable again. We just got to get back to
- 21:26Speaker 4: common sense economic principles.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I hope we have a conversation on healthcare then.
- 21:31Speaker 5: Senator of Governor, please, thank you, Margaret.
- 21:33Speaker 3: We have a lot.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I love how they jump in there by the way,
- 21:36Speaker 2: thank you, thank you.
- 21:37Speaker 1: We gotta we got to move on from that real quick.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You just you just smacked them around a little bit.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, I mean that they were They were eager
- 21:45Speaker 3: to help out Waltz. They were also on the fact checking.
- 21:48Speaker 3: You know, we talked about it at at the open
- 21:51Speaker 3: of the pod when they cut off JD's mike. Now,
- 21:55Speaker 3: that was a moment when number one Kamala was getting
- 21:59Speaker 3: beat up hard on immigration, but number two the moderators
- 22:05Speaker 3: jumped in and JD talked about the Haitian illegal immigrants
- 22:09Speaker 3: who are in Springfield, Ohio, and you know, they wanted
- 22:13Speaker 3: to reprise the whole cat thing. I was surprised. I also,
- 22:16Speaker 3: I would have lost a bet if you had given
- 22:18Speaker 3: me the odds on whether the word cat would be
- 22:20Speaker 3: said in the debate. I would have bet yes, and
- 22:22Speaker 3: I would have lost that bet. So so that the
- 22:24Speaker 3: moderators did not say that, nor did Tim Waltz. But
- 22:29Speaker 3: JD rightly said, look, this massive influx of illegal aliens
- 22:32Speaker 3: is putting an enormous burden on the residents of Springfield
- 22:35Speaker 3: and every other city in Ohio and every other city
- 22:37Speaker 3: in the country. And the moderators chimed into correct him,
- 22:41Speaker 3: well those are legal immigrants, and he said, blooney, yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 3: and this is a fiction. So look, we have a
- 22:50Speaker 3: legal immigration system. And what has happened is Joe Biden
- 22:52Speaker 3: and Kamala Harris have abused our immigration law. So the
- 22:57Speaker 3: three hundred thousand plus Haitians in Nicaraguans and Cubans at
- 23:00Speaker 3: Venezuelan's they've flown in, They've flown in into programs where
- 23:03Speaker 3: they say, well, these guys are all now legal just
- 23:05Speaker 3: because we've decided to open the doors and call everyone
- 23:08Speaker 3: we let in legal that is not legal in any
- 23:11Speaker 3: ordinary sense. They are illegal immigrants. And in particular JD
- 23:15Speaker 3: rightly talks about the app CBP one, which we've talked
- 23:18Speaker 3: about on this podcast before, an app for illegal immigrants
- 23:22Speaker 3: to apply online for Kamala Harris to let him in
- 23:24Speaker 3: our open border.
- 23:25Speaker 2: And they did not like him saying this because it
- 23:27Speaker 2: was fact checking them.
- 23:28Speaker 3: It was they were fact checking him. They were wrong,
- 23:32Speaker 3: he countered him, and then they cut off his mic
- 23:35Speaker 3: right when Tim Waltz was saying, well, well, you know
- 23:38Speaker 3: this has been around for years. CBB one was just
- 23:41Speaker 3: created by Joe Biden Kamala Harris.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Here.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Play the clip when they cut off his mic, because
- 23:45Speaker 3: it really is revealing of the enormous bias and the
- 23:49Speaker 3: factual just mendacity of the CBS moderators.
- 23:54Speaker 1: But thank you, senator. We having so much to get
- 23:56Speaker 1: to more.
- 23:57Speaker 5: I think it's important we're going to turn out of
- 23:59Speaker 5: the economy thing.
- 24:00Speaker 4: The rules were that you got in a fact check,
- 24:02Speaker 4: and since you're fact checking me, I think it's important
- 24:05Speaker 4: to say what's actually going on. So there's an application
- 24:08Speaker 4: called the CBP one app where you can go on
- 24:11Speaker 4: as an illegal migrant, apply for asylum or apply for
- 24:14Speaker 4: parole and be granted legal status at the wave of
- 24:19Speaker 4: a Kamala Harris open border wand that is not a
- 24:22Speaker 4: person coming in applying for a green cart and waiting
- 24:24Speaker 4: for ten years. Thank you, senatortation of a legal immigration
- 24:28Speaker 4: Margaret By.
- 24:29Speaker 5: Thank you, Senator for describing the legal process. Have so
- 24:33Speaker 5: much to get, Senator, so much.
- 24:35Speaker 1: The book since nineteen.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Ninety, Thank you, gentlemen, want to have that app has
- 24:40Speaker 4: not been on the books.
- 24:42Speaker 2: It's something.
- 24:44Speaker 5: Gentlemen, the audience can't hear you because your mics are cut.
- 24:48Speaker 5: We have so much we want to get to Thank
- 24:50Speaker 5: you for explaining the legal process.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I love that the legal process. I mean that is
- 24:56Speaker 3: so smarmy. Yeah, like arrogant cont she's being snarky. Look
- 25:04Speaker 3: these there's no doubt they're political bias. There's no doubt
- 25:09Speaker 3: they love Kamala Harris. There's no doubt they're voting for
- 25:12Speaker 3: Kamala Harris. Thank you for describing the legal process. No,
- 25:16Speaker 3: CBP one is not the legal process. It is an
- 25:18Speaker 3: app designed by Kamala Harris and Joe Biden to facilitate
- 25:22Speaker 3: a massive invasion of this country.
- 25:26Speaker 1: And they and they shut the mic off.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I actually am glad they did it because it's just
- 25:31Speaker 2: and when anybody says in the future, well, there's no
- 25:33Speaker 2: bias to me and Mike, really did you see? And
- 25:35Speaker 2: I love that she says, they try to act like
- 25:37Speaker 2: we shut both your micros offt No, you were shutting
- 25:40Speaker 2: down jd Vance, who was fact checking you and pointing
- 25:44Speaker 2: out that she was lying and pointing out she design
- 25:46Speaker 2: we got to move on. We have other important things.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And by the way, I promise you that moment, if
- 25:50Speaker 2: you pulled the audience in America watching, they would have
- 25:53Speaker 2: loved to have heard what JD.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Van said. Like course you would have been like, well,
- 25:56Speaker 1: I want to hear this right, Like wait, give me
- 25:58Speaker 1: a second.
- 26:00Speaker 3: That's absolutely right. But CBS didn't want the audience to
- 26:02Speaker 3: hear that.
- 26:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 26:04Speaker 3: There was another moment on the same topic of the
- 26:06Speaker 3: border where Tim Waltz said the most brazen lie of
- 26:11Speaker 3: the entire debate, and when Waltz was back pedaling and
- 26:15Speaker 3: trying to defend the disaster of Kamala's open borders, Tim
- 26:19Speaker 3: Waltz said, quote, border crossings are down, compared to when
- 26:24Speaker 3: Donald Trump left office.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Yeah, now, which is a lie. And you and I
- 26:29Speaker 1: both are looking at the TV like that that's not true.
- 26:31Speaker 3: That that is not slightly true. It's not kind of true.
- 26:37Speaker 3: It's not in any way. And let me give you
- 26:38Speaker 3: the stats. So in December twenty twenty, the total encounters
- 26:43Speaker 3: with illegals was eighty nine thousand and seventy two. In
- 26:47Speaker 3: August twenty twenty four, the total encounters was one hundred
- 26:52Speaker 3: and fifty eighty nine hundred and eighty eight, So it
- 26:55Speaker 3: was nearly twice as many. And and mind you, look,
- 26:58Speaker 3: there's been a slight dish up in the last couple
- 27:01Speaker 3: of months because Biden and Harris are trying to pretend
- 27:04Speaker 3: to do something about the border, and they're just doing
- 27:06Speaker 3: it as electioneering. And to put it in, in all
- 27:10Speaker 3: of fiscal year twenty twenty, do you know how many
- 27:13Speaker 3: encounters with illegals there were under Trump?
- 27:15Speaker 1: How many?
- 27:16Speaker 3: Six hundred and forty six, eight hundred and twenty.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Two that's like a month in this administration.
- 27:21Speaker 3: In fiscal year twenty four year to date, and by
- 27:23Speaker 3: the way, we're not all the way through twenty four.
- 27:26Speaker 3: Do you know how many of they've been how many
- 27:28Speaker 3: two million, seven hundred and fifty six thousand, six hundred
- 27:30Speaker 3: and forty six.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 3: And by the way, these these brave fact checkers, did
- 27:37Speaker 3: you notice the CBS cut off? They say, wait a second, Governor,
- 27:42Speaker 3: you just said that border encounters were lower now than
- 27:47Speaker 3: they were under Trump. That is flat out false. They
- 27:51Speaker 3: didn't say that because they're not in the business of
- 27:54Speaker 3: fact checking democrats.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Well, and they also didn't bring up something else that
- 27:58Speaker 2: I actually thought there's some misopportunity. I think JD had
- 28:01Speaker 2: a great night, but I wish you would have seized
- 28:03Speaker 2: on this. The Acting ICE Director put out all of
- 28:08Speaker 2: these numbers that we've talked about here, yes, about the
- 28:11Speaker 2: number of rapists that were let go that we knew
- 28:13Speaker 2: were rapists, the number of murderers that were let go,
- 28:16Speaker 2: and the number of those that had been charged with
- 28:18Speaker 2: Haines's crimes, and we still let go into this country.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And that didn't see the light of day tonight. And
- 28:25Speaker 2: it's again it goes back to the moderators, like it's
- 28:27Speaker 2: shame on them for not actually talking about the Acting
- 28:31Speaker 2: ICE Director saying this when they're going to talk about
- 28:33Speaker 2: the border, how do you talk about the border without that.
- 28:36Speaker 2: But I do and again it's debating's tough, and I
- 28:39Speaker 2: want to be clear, it's tough, but there was a
- 28:41Speaker 2: missed opportunity there. I'm shocked that JAD didn't really try
- 28:44Speaker 2: to hammer that that point home.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Look, look, I think JD did a very good
- 28:48Speaker 3: job tonight. I was surprised that the thirteen thousand convicted
- 28:53Speaker 3: murderers did not come up. It's such a powerful number
- 28:57Speaker 3: and CBS hasn't covered it, the news hasn't covered and
- 29:00Speaker 3: so this debate was an opportunity for That's actually something
- 29:05Speaker 3: that I wish that, like it had been slowly explained,
- 29:09Speaker 3: that they'd taken a little bit of time. You need
- 29:11Speaker 3: to understand that right now today there are more than
- 29:16Speaker 3: thirteen thousand illegal aliens who are free, who have not
- 29:22Speaker 3: been apprehended, who are convicted murderers. There is nothing whatsoever
- 29:29Speaker 3: stopping Kamala Harris from picking up all thirteen thousand of
- 29:33Speaker 3: them tomorrow. Legally she has every right to do so.
- 29:38Speaker 3: They are here illegally, they can be detained, they can
- 29:40Speaker 3: be deported. And yet and there are another two thousand
- 29:44Speaker 3: roughly illegal aliens who have pending murder charges, so they're
- 29:50Speaker 3: being charged with murder. And you know what, they're free too.
- 29:54Speaker 3: There is nothing, zero preventing Kamala Harris from picking up
- 29:59Speaker 3: those two two thousand and I would have loved to
- 30:01Speaker 3: see JD turn to Tim Walton say, Governor, why doesn't
- 30:05Speaker 3: Kamala Harris pick up those fifteen thousand murderers right now?
- 30:10Speaker 3: And what would you say to the mothers of the
- 30:13Speaker 3: children murdered by these illegal alien murderers that you continue
- 30:18Speaker 3: to allow on the street. Yeah, he wouldn't have an
- 30:20Speaker 3: answer to that.
- 30:21Speaker 1: No, he wouldn't have an answer to that.
- 30:22Speaker 2: And look again, like I said, debating is hard, and
- 30:25Speaker 2: I think one of the things that he did really
- 30:26Speaker 2: well was he talked about the fact that people are
- 30:31Speaker 2: suffering in this country because there's so many illegal immigrants,
- 30:33Speaker 2: and it backfired on CBS. They were talking about the
- 30:36Speaker 2: economy and they were talking about the housing crisis. It
- 30:39Speaker 2: was a little bit later in the debate. Many people,
- 30:41Speaker 2: if you didn't watch the whole debate, this was one
- 30:43Speaker 2: of those moments. I think they actually buried it on purpose.
- 30:46Speaker 2: They need to check a box, ask a question about
- 30:48Speaker 2: the about housing. But there was a moment there where
- 30:51Speaker 2: JD Van Sees on like, well, yeah, of course home
- 30:53Speaker 2: prices are.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Going to be up.
- 30:55Speaker 2: You let fifteen to twenty million people in this country,
- 30:58Speaker 2: they got to have a roof over their head. They're
- 31:00Speaker 2: competing with you, especially for low cost housing and apartments,
- 31:04Speaker 2: which is skyrocketing.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Price undoubtedly, And and and CBS really beclowned themselves on
- 31:10Speaker 3: this because because one of the moderators chimed in and said, well,
- 31:12Speaker 3: do you have any evidence of that? What proof do
- 31:14Speaker 3: you have of that? And JD, to his credit, was
- 31:17Speaker 3: prepared and said, well, actually, there's a Federal Reserve study
- 31:19Speaker 3: that lays out the impact of illegal immigration driving up
- 31:22Speaker 3: the cost of housing, and we'll put that out on
- 31:24Speaker 3: social media right now so you can go read the study.
- 31:27Speaker 3: But he also made the point of just supply and demand.
- 31:30Speaker 3: What do you think an additional eleven and a half
- 31:32Speaker 3: million people is going to be ending housing is going
- 31:35Speaker 3: to do? Do you do these houses magically get created
- 31:38Speaker 3: from the sky? Is there a wand that makes them
- 31:41Speaker 3: makes them come into existence? And the moderators just didn't
- 31:45Speaker 3: like that point, and and so they they were, but
- 31:49Speaker 3: they looked pretty silly when they asked if he had
- 31:51Speaker 3: any evidence and the answer was well, yes, I love.
- 31:54Speaker 2: The other day on TV they were talking about the
- 31:55Speaker 2: price of hotels in New York City of skyrocketed. Yeah,
- 31:58Speaker 2: because I think it's like one out of x summer,
- 32:01Speaker 2: of every hotels is filled with illegal immigrants. They're taking
- 32:04Speaker 2: away hotel room course, so then they get more for the.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Hotel rooms that are available.
- 32:10Speaker 2: You and I I don't even know if did you
- 32:12Speaker 2: know I got stranded in New York City and there
- 32:15Speaker 2: wasn't a single hotel room after we came back from
- 32:18Speaker 2: the airport.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Did I tell you this?
- 32:20Speaker 2: So this is how bad it is. And this is
- 32:22Speaker 2: when I learned, like really firsthand. I went the airport,
- 32:25Speaker 2: was on the plane, was on the plane for like
- 32:26Speaker 2: four hours. They finally cancel the fight. We pulled back
- 32:29Speaker 2: up the gate and they say go back in the city.
- 32:31Speaker 2: So immediately get on the phone.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I called Fox.
- 32:32Speaker 2: I'm there for TV. I'm like, hey, I'm going to
- 32:34Speaker 2: need a hotel room. And I got to get back
- 32:36Speaker 2: to the city. And then I get into a fight
- 32:37Speaker 2: back in the morning to Houston, and she was like,
- 32:40Speaker 2: no problem, I'll call in a minute, go ahead and
- 32:42Speaker 2: head down the cars and we'll get you back to
- 32:44Speaker 2: the city.
- 32:45Speaker 1: She said, I've never seen this before.
- 32:46Speaker 2: There's not a single hotel room in the city, and
- 32:49Speaker 2: I'm like not And it wasn't like there was like
- 32:52Speaker 2: the super Bowl going on. This is a normal Tuesday
- 32:54Speaker 2: in New York. And I was like, are you kidding. Well,
- 32:57Speaker 2: then I open up my app and I'm like, I
- 32:59Speaker 2: get on Expedia. I there are no hotel rooms. They
- 33:02Speaker 2: start looking in a New Jersey. They're looking everywhere. Finally,
- 33:06Speaker 2: the only option was to go back to the city
- 33:08Speaker 2: and hope that someone doesn't come to a hotel room.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I sat outside of the hotel I always stay at,
- 33:14Speaker 2: know the manager, and I walked in. He's like Ben,
- 33:17Speaker 2: He's like, this is because of all the illegal immigrants
- 33:19Speaker 2: in the city.
- 33:19Speaker 1: He goes, there's no hotel rooms to deal with a capacity.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I set outside to one in the morning until finally
- 33:25Speaker 2: someone canceled the hotel and then he checked me into
- 33:28Speaker 2: that room at one o'clock. So I sat there from
- 33:29Speaker 2: seven to one am. My fight was at six in mornings.
- 33:32Speaker 2: I slept for like three hours. And he said, this
- 33:35Speaker 2: is what they've done to our city, referring to the
- 33:37Speaker 2: illegal immigrants and how many have come in. And when
- 33:40Speaker 2: I say there was an it was there was not
- 33:42Speaker 2: a hotel room in the city. That's what's happening now
- 33:45Speaker 2: because of legal immigration centator. I want to talk and
- 33:49Speaker 2: wrap on the issue of style. You know, you and
- 33:52Speaker 2: I both thought this was going to be a intense debate.
- 33:55Speaker 2: They don't like each other, They're going to throw down.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I think we're also gotten kind of used to that,
- 33:59Speaker 2: which down true, that's what we've seen over the last
- 34:02Speaker 2: several years. Joe Biden likes to do that as well.
- 34:05Speaker 2: We've seen a lot of the Republican debates. Primary debates.
- 34:07Speaker 3: Didn't by the way Hillary and Trump was nasty. They
- 34:09Speaker 3: were real nasty.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean they threw down, and tonight I didn't.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I did enjoy a little bit of civility, absolutely, and
- 34:19Speaker 2: that was something we haven't seen. But I also think
- 34:22Speaker 2: if it was a strategy by the by the Trump team,
- 34:25Speaker 2: Hey you're gonna be the likable guy. You're gonna try
- 34:28Speaker 2: to bring more people into the tent. I want you
- 34:31Speaker 2: to walk away really thinking that you're the right choice.
- 34:35Speaker 2: They nailed it. If that was the intent tonight.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Yeah, Look, I think JD came across as as real
- 34:41Speaker 3: and relatable. He did a good job of telling his
- 34:45Speaker 3: own family story and his own background, I mean his
- 34:48Speaker 3: you know, he wrote a best selling book, Hill Billy LG.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Was made into a movie, a very very good movie,
- 34:55Speaker 3: a movie that's terrific to watch. And but yet a
- 34:58Speaker 3: lot of people don't know that story. He's been a
- 35:00Speaker 3: caricatured just like Trump has. And and I think tonight
- 35:06Speaker 3: made real progress making him seem like a real person,
- 35:10Speaker 3: seem like a husband and a father. And you know,
- 35:13Speaker 3: someone who is has has journeyed from very humble beginnings
- 35:19Speaker 3: to to right now being the nominee to be vice
- 35:22Speaker 3: president of the United States. That's that's one heck of
- 35:24Speaker 3: a journey.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Make sure you share this podcast with your family and
- 35:27Speaker 2: your friends, and I'll see you back here tomorrow
