- 0:00Speaker 1: Somebody had to do it. Roger actually said that Josh
- 0:03Speaker 1: Schwab was here a little while ago, one of the
- 0:05Speaker 1: great financial people, and he said he's been waiting for
- 0:08Speaker 1: forty years for somebody to do what I did, and
- 0:11Speaker 1: if you didn't do it, you wouldn't have a country,
- 0:12Speaker 1: it wouldn't be sustainable. So I'm honor to have done it.
- 0:16Speaker 2: This is a forty seven Morning Update special edition with
- 0:19Speaker 2: Ben Ferguson.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It is one fifty one in the morning. Welcome.
- 0:23Speaker 4: It has been Ferguson with you on the forty seven
- 0:26Speaker 4: Morning Update, and I've got a special extended show for
- 0:29Speaker 4: you right now as I am going to be joined
- 0:31Speaker 4: with Senator Ted Cruz as we are going to give
- 0:34Speaker 4: you the latest from the Oval Office where he has
- 0:37Speaker 4: spent more than two hours of the present talking about tariffs.
- 0:41Speaker 4: We're also going to talk about this insane late night
- 0:43Speaker 4: vote as well that is happening as I speak at
- 0:46Speaker 4: one fifty one in the morning, as Democrats are doing
- 0:50Speaker 4: it to quote protest Donald Trump and his agenda and
- 0:53Speaker 4: Elon Musk as well. Throw that in there, because you
- 0:55Speaker 4: know why not. And also something else that's shocking. We
- 1:00Speaker 4: have Mexico stealing water from America and American farmers. The
- 1:06Speaker 4: President is now going to stop that, threatening tariffs and
- 1:11Speaker 4: also sanctions. It's the forty seven Morning Update at one
- 1:15Speaker 4: fifty one am on Capitol Hill and it starts right now,
- 1:19Speaker 4: all right, So let's just start.
- 1:21Speaker 3: With a little bit of color here.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I gotta say one of the most fun things about
- 1:25Speaker 4: going to the Oval Office is Donald Trump loves having guests. Yes,
- 1:31Speaker 4: and the swag that you leave with is just the
- 1:36Speaker 4: most incredible level of swag.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And he pays for it out of his own pocket.
- 1:40Speaker 5: He does.
- 1:41Speaker 3: It's not the taxpayers.
- 1:42Speaker 4: So when I went in the first time, it was
- 1:44Speaker 4: in the last and forty five in those years, and
- 1:47Speaker 4: they asked if I would come up for State of
- 1:49Speaker 4: the Union and prep and that, and I was there
- 1:51Speaker 4: the day the State of the Union. And at the
- 1:53Speaker 4: end he's like Ferguson, He's like, I know, you got
- 1:55Speaker 4: three boys at home, what do you need? And I'm like,
- 1:58Speaker 4: miss President, whatever, you know, if you'd sign say hey, no,
- 2:00Speaker 4: come over here, and he walks you around the corner
- 2:02Speaker 4: into the room. He has this like full swag room
- 2:05Speaker 4: and he's like three different hats of the boys signs him.
- 2:07Speaker 4: He's like, now one of your son plays golf. He
- 2:09Speaker 4: signs a pro V one ball from then he gives
- 2:11Speaker 4: me another sleeve. Then he gives me a golf towel,
- 2:13Speaker 4: and then he's like, and you're laughing because you're in
- 2:15Speaker 4: the Oval office, and you're like, I'm going to walk
- 2:17Speaker 4: out of here.
- 2:18Speaker 3: With all this stuff.
- 2:19Speaker 5: To be fair, you're not in the oval.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Well, no, you're outside of it, but you walk back in.
- 2:22Speaker 4: You're like holding all this stuff in the.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Olden you're in the little office next to.
- 2:26Speaker 3: The open yes, where the swag room is.
- 2:29Speaker 5: And what happened in that little room.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Which is one of his favorite stories. He's like, you
- 2:34Speaker 3: you know where you are right now? Twenty five years Yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 3: He's like, you know where you are right now? And
- 2:37Speaker 3: I'm like, where am I right?
- 2:39Speaker 5: This is where Monica Lewinsky.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Did not have sex with that man.
- 2:47Speaker 5: But but but shall we say I don't know?
- 2:54Speaker 3: Okay, problem, I think I did it perfectly there.
- 2:57Speaker 5: I'm trying to find a way to say this. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 5: and this is.
- 3:01Speaker 4: Button did not have sexual organizations with that woman quote unquote,
- 3:05Speaker 4: but may have.
- 3:06Speaker 5: But it's also where the blue dress got sullied. There
- 3:10Speaker 5: you go, that's a great way of putting it, and
- 3:11Speaker 5: it would be in that room and you kind of
- 3:14Speaker 5: look around and it's sort of little, and it's now
- 3:16Speaker 5: filled with if you can imagine the uh.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Make America Great Again hats, the forty forty five dash
- 3:24Speaker 4: forty seven.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I mean it's it's it's legit.
- 3:27Speaker 5: And he has all these shells full of swag and
- 3:29Speaker 5: he like says, hey, what do you want? Take whatever
- 3:31Speaker 5: you want?
- 3:31Speaker 4: And by the way, there's nothing in there that you
- 3:33Speaker 4: can buy, so I it's either from there or you
- 3:35Speaker 4: don't like it's not.
- 3:37Speaker 5: And he just does that and he pays for it
- 3:38Speaker 5: all like he's out of his like it's he's paying
- 3:41Speaker 5: for it himself. But he's like, what do you want?
- 3:42Speaker 5: You want? Like they had gigantic Maga hats that are
- 3:45Speaker 5: like twice the size of the normal head, the.
- 3:48Speaker 4: One that Elon Musk wore that kind of made it famous.
- 3:50Speaker 4: A lot of people remember he put it on.
- 3:52Speaker 5: He was like, so he actually pointed that out, and
- 3:54Speaker 5: so that's the one Elon wears. Yeah, so and it's
- 3:56Speaker 5: got all this stuff He's got. It's cool stuff.
- 4:00Speaker 4: So and by the way, the VIP gift is what
- 4:02Speaker 4: I was told, which I think we can confirm is true.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Is the cup links. So he looked at me, He's like, Ferguson,
- 4:09Speaker 3: you need this, can't buy these anywhere, and he hands
- 4:12Speaker 3: them to me. It was it's presidential cuplinks. They're amazing.
- 4:15Speaker 3: I still have in this day. You've got a pair
- 4:17Speaker 3: now as.
- 4:17Speaker 5: Well, so I do, and I've had a couple of
- 4:20Speaker 5: presidential cufflinks in the past.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah, but these are the coolest that.
- 4:24Speaker 5: These are really damn cool. And I will say his
- 4:26Speaker 5: challenge coins. So in the military and in law enforcement,
- 4:30Speaker 5: people carry challenge coins and they're typically about the size
- 4:33Speaker 5: of a silver dollar. And so if you come to
- 4:35Speaker 5: my office, you've been to my office. I have one
- 4:37Speaker 5: entire display of military challenge coins and I probably got
- 4:41Speaker 5: I don't know, two hundred of them. That is, I've
- 4:42Speaker 5: traveled the world.
- 4:44Speaker 3: They give them to you, they get awesome.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Yeah. And then I have another display of law enforcement
- 4:50Speaker 5: challenge coins, so police officers, law enforcement. And so the
- 4:54Speaker 5: two are ones behind my desk. The military is behind
- 4:57Speaker 5: my desk, and the other is on the other end
- 4:59Speaker 5: of my office kind of across my desk. So they're
- 5:02Speaker 5: normally about the size of a silver dollar. Trump this
- 5:06Speaker 5: evening gave me two challenge coins, and his challenge coins
- 5:10Speaker 5: are literally three hundred percent the size of it.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Oh, it is like the size of the tariffy put
- 5:15Speaker 3: on Chinese gun.
- 5:16Speaker 5: It's the size of a pancy.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a it's a coast.
- 5:19Speaker 5: It's a coaster that's exactly like And he is one
- 5:23Speaker 5: that's sort of gold and fancy, and then he's another
- 5:25Speaker 5: that is gun medal, and he said, actually, these are
- 5:28Speaker 5: more popular because it's like military gun medal and it
- 5:32Speaker 5: President of the United States and a really cool coin.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I love it. That's the fun part about it.
- 5:35Speaker 4: And you were there, by the way for something that
- 5:37Speaker 4: was not making big headlines, but it deals with crypto
- 5:39Speaker 4: and we're going to talk about this in another pot.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:42Speaker 5: No, that's exactly right. I was there for a bill signing,
- 5:44Speaker 5: so legislation that I introduced to repeal an incredibly abusive
- 5:49Speaker 5: regulation from the Biden administration that harmed the crypto industry,
- 5:53Speaker 5: and I got it passed through Congress, the President signed
- 5:56Speaker 5: it into law. And so I've been there for a
- 5:58Speaker 5: number of bill signings of legislation I've pass But it's
- 6:00Speaker 5: always cool because you're passing legislation the President signed it
- 6:03Speaker 5: and suddenly becomes law.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Did you get to keep the pen? He loves giving
- 6:06Speaker 3: away the sharpie?
- 6:07Speaker 5: Yes, and it's not a sharpie. It is much like
- 6:10Speaker 5: the challenge coin.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's huge.
- 6:12Speaker 5: It is huge. It is probably three hundred percent the
- 6:16Speaker 5: size of a shark.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like oversized. So when he signed my boys hats,
- 6:20Speaker 4: he goes, here's the pin. Take the pen home, and
- 6:22Speaker 4: I still have the pen at my desk. It's like
- 6:24Speaker 4: it's got the and it's got the Trump gold signature
- 6:27Speaker 4: on the side.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 5: So so I'll end up in my office framing that
- 6:31Speaker 5: signing pen because it's legislation that I passed. That's truly significant.
- 6:34Speaker 5: And in my office I have a bunch of different
- 6:36Speaker 5: pieces of legislation signed and a number of them are signed,
- 6:39Speaker 5: are are framed with the signing pin. So I was
- 6:42Speaker 5: there for that. But look a couple of things. One,
- 6:46Speaker 5: we talked a lot about tariffs, and let's rewind two
- 6:48Speaker 5: days ago. Yep, so we have talked in this last week.
- 6:52Speaker 5: We've had two podcasts entirely devoted to the Trump tariffs.
- 6:55Speaker 5: We had one our Friday podcast right after the tariffs
- 6:58Speaker 5: came out on hundred percent of the podcast was on
- 7:01Speaker 5: the tariffs, and then our Monday podcast we talked about
- 7:05Speaker 5: two competing camps in the Trump administration. We talked about
- 7:09Speaker 5: angels and devils that were on President Trump's soldiers shoulders.
- 7:14Speaker 5: The angels were urging the President use the leverage of
- 7:19Speaker 5: the tariffs you've announced to fight for lower tariffs across
- 7:23Speaker 5: the world to expand market access for America. I emphatically
- 7:26Speaker 5: agree with that side. The devils and there are voices
- 7:30Speaker 5: in the administration they want to see massive tariffs in
- 7:34Speaker 5: perpetuity from America and every other country. I think that's
- 7:37Speaker 5: a terrible outcome. So we did Monday's podcast. We did
- 7:39Speaker 5: a deep dive on that. So I will tell you
- 7:42Speaker 5: and I are sitting here Thursday night. Tuesday night, I
- 7:47Speaker 5: spent an hour on the phone with President Trump and
- 7:51Speaker 5: I had several other senators there and we were urging him.
- 7:54Speaker 5: What I was saying is, listen, the market is in
- 7:58Speaker 5: free fall. It's dangerous. People are freaking out.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Sure.
- 8:02Speaker 5: And my advice to him, and I said, I did
- 8:05Speaker 5: Hannity Tuesday night, and so I said this on Hannity,
- 8:07Speaker 5: So this is not secret advice. I said it on
- 8:09Speaker 5: Fox News to the whole country. I said, my advice is,
- 8:12Speaker 5: cut a deal now. Pick one or two countries. Cut
- 8:16Speaker 5: a deal now. I don't care what countries they are.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Pick one, pick two, and cut a deal where they
- 8:22Speaker 5: slash their tariffs massively and we slash our terraffs massively.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I said, I think that will calm the market down enormously.
- 8:29Speaker 5: That will assuage people that we are headed to a
- 8:32Speaker 5: world which with much lower tariffs. Which, by the way,
- 8:35Speaker 5: as I told him, if thirty days, sixty days, ninety
- 8:39Speaker 5: days from now, we have a world where every country
- 8:42Speaker 5: on Earth has massively lower tariffs and American farmers and
- 8:46Speaker 5: ranchers and small businesses and manufacturers are able to export
- 8:49Speaker 5: all over the world, that will be an historic win,
- 8:53Speaker 5: like an unprecedented win for American workers and American jobs.
- 8:58Speaker 5: So that's what I'm urging him. We spent an hour
- 9:01Speaker 5: on the phone, and I got to say, look, President Trump,
- 9:04Speaker 5: sometimes when you're urging him to do something, he can
- 9:06Speaker 5: push back, And in that call, he was kind of
- 9:09Speaker 5: pushing back and popping back, and he's saying, look, these
- 9:12Speaker 5: tariffs are great. We're raising a ton of money. What's
- 9:15Speaker 5: the problem. Spent an hour, but then on Wednesday, the
- 9:20Speaker 5: President put out an announcement at lunchtime, and his announcement
- 9:25Speaker 5: was twofold. Number one, he said he was pausing all
- 9:29Speaker 5: of the reciprocal tariffs he had announced on April second
- 9:32Speaker 5: for ninety days, for ninety.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Days, which is enough time to get deals done.
- 9:36Speaker 5: And number two, he said he was jacking up the
- 9:39Speaker 5: tariffs on China even more. He said, to one hundred
- 9:42Speaker 5: and twenty five thousand others, it's actually one hundred and
- 9:45Speaker 5: twenty five percent, But it's actually one hundred and forty
- 9:48Speaker 5: five percent because there's an additional twenty percent that he
- 9:51Speaker 5: had announced as a penalty for their role in fentanyl
- 9:54Speaker 5: smuggling into this country. Yep, So the total tariffs against
- 9:57Speaker 5: China are one hundred and forty five percent. Well, he
- 10:00Speaker 5: announced that. I'll tell you. On Wednesday, I was in
- 10:02Speaker 5: the Senate Republican lunch, all the Senate Senate Republican senators.
- 10:06Speaker 5: We have lunch together every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The
- 10:09Speaker 5: middle of the lunch, Rick Scott, who hosts the Wednesday lunch,
- 10:12Speaker 5: Rick Scott looked at his phone and announced, Hey, the
- 10:14Speaker 5: President's just paused all the teriffs and increased the tariffs
- 10:18Speaker 5: on China. There wasn't exactly a round of applause, but close,
- 10:25Speaker 5: pretty damn close. There was literally there was a relief,
- 10:28Speaker 5: and yes, a palpable sense of relief. And what is
- 10:32Speaker 5: striking is the market within minutes exploded and stocks sored up.
- 10:40Speaker 5: So tonight when I was in the Oval, I said,
- 10:43Speaker 5: miss President, as a result of your decision yesterday, you
- 10:48Speaker 5: produced the single largest increase in the stock market in
- 10:52Speaker 5: one day in the history of the United States of America.
- 10:56Speaker 3: That's a good day.
- 10:57Speaker 5: That is a massive day. And so I will the
- 11:00Speaker 5: pause is important. I hope over these next ninety days,
- 11:03Speaker 5: I hope what we see is as we talked about
- 11:06Speaker 5: on Monday's pod, they're two paths, massively reducing tariffs for
- 11:11Speaker 5: everyone or keeping tariffs in perpetuity. Over the next ninety days,
- 11:16Speaker 5: I hope we see announcement after announcement after announcement of
- 11:19Speaker 5: our trading partners, all of whom would come running to
- 11:22Speaker 5: President Trump saying we want to cut a deal. And
- 11:25Speaker 5: to be clear, none of this would have happened without
- 11:28Speaker 5: the April second announcement, none of it.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Well, and Scott Bessett, by the way, he said this
- 11:33Speaker 4: at the White House when they announced this. He walked
- 11:36Speaker 4: out and he said, this is all about leverage, which
- 11:39Speaker 4: is what the President said.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Take a listen. President's decision.
- 11:41Speaker 5: There was a president's decision to wait until today.
- 11:45Speaker 6: And again, as I said in the past, no one
- 11:48Speaker 6: creates the leverage for himself like President Trumps.
- 11:52Speaker 4: And he said that, by the way, at the point
- 11:54Speaker 4: when the Dow was up two thousand points, right, So
- 11:57Speaker 4: he just announced it, walks out there and then and
- 12:00Speaker 4: Caroline Levitt also was a reminder like, hey, we're letting
- 12:03Speaker 4: the rest of the world off the hook, but when
- 12:05Speaker 4: it comes to China, we're not. She said, this is
- 12:08Speaker 4: the same press conference.
- 12:09Speaker 6: And as you all know, the President just put out
- 12:11Speaker 6: a statement announcing an additional tariff on China. The tariff
- 12:15Speaker 6: on China will now go up to one hundred and
- 12:16Speaker 6: twenty five percent because China imprudently decided to retaliate against
- 12:21Speaker 6: the United States. And as I said at the podium yesterday,
- 12:23Speaker 6: when you punch at the United States of America, President
- 12:26Speaker 6: Trump is going to punch back harder. In that same vein.
- 12:29Speaker 6: We have had more than seventy five countries from around
- 12:31Speaker 6: the world reach out to President Trump and his team
- 12:34Speaker 6: here at the White House to negotiate better trade deals
- 12:37Speaker 6: for the American worker. We have been overwhelmed with the
- 12:41Speaker 6: amount of requests for countries around the world. I'll let
- 12:43Speaker 6: the Secretary speak to that. We will continue with the
- 12:45Speaker 6: tailor made negotiations that I spoke about yesterday. In the meantime,
- 12:49Speaker 6: there will be a ninety day pause on the reciprocal
- 12:51Speaker 6: tariffs as these negotiations are ongoing, and the tariff level
- 12:54Speaker 6: will be brought down to a universal ten percent tariff.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I mean listened to them, and I think it's pretty clear.
- 13:02Speaker 5: By the way, I will say this Caroline Levitt, I
- 13:04Speaker 5: know really well. Yeah, she's a good friend. So Caroline
- 13:08Speaker 5: ran for Congress in New Hampshire. And she was running
- 13:11Speaker 5: for Congress, if I remember correctly, she was twenty five
- 13:14Speaker 5: years old.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 5: And by the way, the Constitution the minimum age for
- 13:18Speaker 5: member Congress is twenty five years old.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Yep. So she was on the House side, yep, yeap.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Member Congress is twenty five, a senator is thirty, and
- 13:26Speaker 5: the president must be thirty five. That's what the Constitution
- 13:28Speaker 5: lays out. So Caroline was running in New Hampshire. As
- 13:33Speaker 5: you know, I raised a ton of money for Caroline
- 13:35Speaker 5: Yep I believe, if I remember correctly, north of one
- 13:38Speaker 5: hundred thousand dollars to support her campaign, and I flew
- 13:41Speaker 5: to New Hampshire and campaigned with her.
- 13:43Speaker 3: She was a great presidentadidate.
- 13:45Speaker 5: And by the way, I told the President that tonight,
- 13:47Speaker 5: I said, look, she's she's kicking ass as your press secretary.
- 13:51Speaker 5: But she was a fabulous and the coolest part. We
- 13:53Speaker 5: did a huge rally and she rocked it and it
- 13:55Speaker 5: was a lot of energy and excitement. And then we
- 13:58Speaker 5: went afterwards to a bar I think it was a
- 14:01Speaker 5: VFW bar, if I remember correctly, and there were like
- 14:04Speaker 5: several hundred, mostly veterans, and we were having a beer
- 14:07Speaker 5: with them and they loved her. It was really cool.
- 14:10Speaker 5: It was like a fun It was after the event,
- 14:13Speaker 5: hanging out having a beer with a bunch of New
- 14:15Speaker 5: Hampshire veterans and it was like a great moment. Now
- 14:18Speaker 5: she ended up she won the primary. She did not
- 14:21Speaker 5: win the general, although I pointed out to her tonight
- 14:24Speaker 5: I said, look that didn't work out, even though you
- 14:26Speaker 5: were a great candidate. But I said, you know what,
- 14:29Speaker 5: You'd rather do the job you have now than being.
- 14:32Speaker 4: A biggest blessing in disguise, because she would have done
- 14:37Speaker 4: that job.
- 14:37Speaker 3: She would be the press secretary right now.
- 14:39Speaker 4: It's amazing how those things happen in your life, when
- 14:41Speaker 4: you're like, you want things so bad and then you
- 14:43Speaker 4: don't get it, and then you're like, man, if I
- 14:45Speaker 4: would have gotten that, where would I look at what
- 14:47Speaker 4: I would have missed?
- 14:48Speaker 5: You know the country western song Some of God's greatest
- 14:50Speaker 5: gifts are unanswered prayers.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 5: There have been multiple steps in my life where I
- 14:55Speaker 5: desperately wanted something I didn't get it. I was crestfallen,
- 14:59Speaker 5: I was f strated. I used to keep all right,
- 15:01Speaker 5: this is gonna be sort of a weird admission. When
- 15:05Speaker 5: I was in high school and college, I literally kept
- 15:08Speaker 5: a file folder. And by the way, for all of
- 15:10Speaker 5: you under thirty, you don't know what a file folder is.
- 15:12Speaker 5: But I had like a file cabinet with a folder.
- 15:15Speaker 5: You know what it was called? What failures?
- 15:19Speaker 3: How many were in there?
- 15:20Speaker 5: A lot? Okay, So look, I was someone I tried
- 15:24Speaker 5: for things. I applied for things. I wanted to be
- 15:26Speaker 5: a Rhodes scholar. I applied for the Road scholarship. I
- 15:29Speaker 5: didn't get it. I was really I was like, damn,
- 15:30Speaker 5: I'd really like to be a Rhodes scholar. I'm pissed
- 15:32Speaker 5: I didn't get it. Yeah, but all right, I think
- 15:35Speaker 5: it's tenth grade. Okay, this is.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I'm I'm sort of embarrassed. Like you guys know, Ben's
- 15:44Speaker 5: a jock. He was like a cool kid, and like,
- 15:46Speaker 5: you know.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Although I tried hard, I tried hard.
- 15:49Speaker 5: How thought it be fair? Is a tennis player really
- 15:51Speaker 5: a job?
- 15:52Speaker 4: Well, you know it's it's a sort of sec I mean,
- 15:55Speaker 4: it's not a sc it.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Is like a tennis player. You're wearing like a white
- 16:00Speaker 5: eyes on. Like it's not the same.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Swag we had some we had some nice Nike swag
- 16:05Speaker 4: like they we did it right.
- 16:07Speaker 5: I'm just saying you were ball.
- 16:10Speaker 4: It's not basketball. It's not baseball. I'll give you that.
- 16:13Speaker 4: I will keep you dunk. No, I cannot dunk.
- 16:15Speaker 5: I played hoops with you. I knew the answer.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Yeah I cannot.
- 16:18Speaker 4: But I wasn't going for a Rhodes scholar. I can
- 16:21Speaker 4: promise you that. And I didn't have a briefcase. You
- 16:23Speaker 4: had a briefcase. That's what we're really getting in.
- 16:24Speaker 5: No, I didn't have a briefcase, I'm sorry, I'm not
- 16:28Speaker 5: Alex P. Keaton, which no one knows who that was,
- 16:31Speaker 5: Michael J.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Fox and Family Ties amazing show.
- 16:33Speaker 5: But but all right, So in tenth grade, I was
- 16:39Speaker 5: sitting there in class with my classmates and they were
- 16:41Speaker 5: talking about, like applying to a scholarship. Yeah, And several
- 16:45Speaker 5: of my classmates said, well, no, no, I'm not going to apply.
- 16:47Speaker 5: And I said, well why not? And they said, well,
- 16:50Speaker 5: if I apply, I might get rejected and I don't
- 16:53Speaker 5: want to fail, so I'm not going to do it.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Yeah, And you're like, screw that. I'm going for all
- 16:58Speaker 3: of it.
- 17:00Speaker 5: And and I wrote a poem in tenth grade which
- 17:03Speaker 5: I don't have, but I'm going to try to remember it.
- 17:05Speaker 5: I don't know that I can remember it exactly. But
- 17:10Speaker 5: imagine a dreamer walking off a cliff with hopes and aspirations.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Many would say his steps were foolish, and yet all
- 17:25Speaker 5: the great inventors, discoverers, and achievers would say nothing ventured,
- 17:34Speaker 5: nothing gained. And here's another element to complicate the matter.
- 17:42Speaker 5: What if the walker learned to fly? And this is me,
- 17:48Speaker 5: as a geeky fifteen year old writing a poem Poe
- 17:51Speaker 5: inspired me like that was.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Before chat gbts. You didn't even steal it from anybody.
- 17:58Speaker 5: Have a cliff, you ain't grown wings fair point, and
- 18:00Speaker 5: so my I literally had a whole folder of failures
- 18:04Speaker 5: things I tried to do that that I did not accomplish.
- 18:06Speaker 5: But if you are are to use another great hero
- 18:09Speaker 5: of mine, Teddy Roosevelt, Yeah, you know, t R gave
- 18:13Speaker 5: a great commencement speech about being in the arena, the
- 18:16Speaker 5: man who is marred by blood and sweat and mud
- 18:21Speaker 5: in the arena and not one of those cold and
- 18:24Speaker 5: timid souls who know neither victory nor to feat.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Nor to feat.
- 18:31Speaker 5: And so I forget where I'm going on this.
- 18:34Speaker 3: No, you're you're talking about Caroly.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I love it, failing it, the going for conquer, the blessing,
- 18:42Speaker 4: and now it's the biggest thing in her life. So
- 18:43Speaker 4: you're saying, count your failures because they can be your
- 18:46Speaker 4: blessings later in life.
- 18:47Speaker 5: If you have no failures, you've done nothing.
- 18:50Speaker 3: I just want to prove that right now to my wife.
- 18:52Speaker 4: How good of a listener I am, because I just
- 18:54Speaker 4: saved that whole story right there.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I just want credit for that moment. Anyway, continue you
- 19:00Speaker 3: going to buy that I don't know.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Well, see if she listens to the show, because I
- 19:03Speaker 4: just if she If she doesn't listen, we're both gonna know.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Well. Look, I will say what happened on tariffs Wednesday
- 19:16Speaker 5: was a massive day, Number one for the market and
- 19:19Speaker 5: for a huge search, but number two, the ninety days,
- 19:23Speaker 5: we have an opportunity. This is not hyperbole. President Trump
- 19:28Speaker 5: could achieve the greatest victory for jobs and economic growth,
- 19:35Speaker 5: certainly in our lifetimes and maybe in the history of America.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Now well, and you reap between the tea leaves here
- 19:41Speaker 4: like there does seem to be a strategy here, and
- 19:43Speaker 4: this is some of the genius I do have to
- 19:45Speaker 4: think of that. I give credit for that. A lot
- 19:47Speaker 4: of people miss on President Trump. It seems like he's saying, Hey,
- 19:53Speaker 4: rest of the world, I want to get along with you.
- 19:55Speaker 4: I'm gonna bust China. They're taking advantage of us. They're
- 19:58Speaker 4: still in our intellectual property. It's national security issue. We
- 20:01Speaker 4: witnessed what we witnessed during COVID with them as a nation.
- 20:04Speaker 4: I want everybody else to succeed, and we're going to
- 20:06Speaker 4: make sure they don't have all of this leverage over
- 20:09Speaker 4: not just us, but other partners in the world.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Yes, but look, the two things I've been urging President
- 20:14Speaker 5: Trump for a long time on trade to focus on
- 20:17Speaker 5: are Number One, focus on China. I am all four
- 20:20Speaker 5: pounding the living daylights out of China. You know, when
- 20:24Speaker 5: I arrived in the Senate thirteen years ago, what I
- 20:27Speaker 5: said then is China poses the single largest geopolitical threat
- 20:33Speaker 5: to the United States over the next one hundred years.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Amen.
- 20:37Speaker 5: Now, Ben, when I arrived, that was a lonely voice.
- 20:41Speaker 5: Almost nobody agreed with me. Every Democrat had disagreed with me,
- 20:45Speaker 5: and most of the Republicans disagreed with me. They looked
- 20:48Speaker 5: at China and they saw nothing but dollar signs as
- 20:51Speaker 5: far as the eye could see. Now the world has changed.
- 20:54Speaker 5: I think a lot more people have opened their eyes
- 20:56Speaker 5: to the danger, to the peril. China is fighting a
- 20:59Speaker 5: thousand year war against the United States.
- 21:02Speaker 3: And that's not hyperbole, and that's really how they look
- 21:06Speaker 3: at it.
- 21:06Speaker 5: And everything we can do to delink our economy from
- 21:10Speaker 5: China is a good step. So so I've urged President Trump,
- 21:14Speaker 5: you can't focus on China too much. The more you
- 21:17Speaker 5: can bring jobs out of China, the more you can
- 21:19Speaker 5: bring our critical infrastructure out of China. The more you
- 21:22Speaker 5: can bring pharmaceuticals out of China, the more you can
- 21:24Speaker 5: bring semiconductors out of China. Everything we depend upon China
- 21:29Speaker 5: is coming after us.
- 21:30Speaker 3: And this is national security. Things we depend on.
- 21:32Speaker 5: It is national security, is economic security. This is a
- 21:36Speaker 5: fundamental battle. So I am all for focusing on China,
- 21:39Speaker 5: but the other principal reciprocity. Look, I don't want to
- 21:43Speaker 5: be overly optimistic. As we mentioned on Monday's podcast, and
- 21:47Speaker 5: you want to go back and listen to it about
- 21:49Speaker 5: angels and devils. There are really vocal and outspoken voices
- 21:56Speaker 5: in the administration who don't want the President to lower
- 22:00Speaker 5: tariffs in other countries. They want tariffs to be high
- 22:04Speaker 5: and there forever, and they want the revenue. Look, tariffs
- 22:09Speaker 5: are producing about two and a half a billion dollars
- 22:11Speaker 5: a day in revenues. Now, the point I made to
- 22:14Speaker 5: the President, where are those revenues coming from?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Tariffs?
- 22:18Speaker 5: Are taxes? They're coming from American consumers. So yes, it's
- 22:21Speaker 5: producing a lot of money. But I would much rather
- 22:25Speaker 5: lower the various to other countries and let our farmers
- 22:27Speaker 5: and ranchers and small businesses and manufacturers export the hell
- 22:31Speaker 5: out of it, because I think American businesses can beat
- 22:34Speaker 5: every company on Earth if there's a fair playing field.
- 22:39Speaker 5: If most of the countries we trade with there's not
- 22:42Speaker 5: a fair playing field, and so this opportunity and listen,
- 22:47Speaker 5: President Trump's negotiation strategy is in some way simple. He
- 22:53Speaker 5: walks up to people, he smacks him in the head
- 22:55Speaker 5: with a two by four. I think he backs up
- 22:57Speaker 5: and negotiates from that. Yeah, and it has proven to
- 23:01Speaker 5: be an incredibly effective negotiation strategy. So I will say,
- 23:05Speaker 5: I'm really really glad about Wednesday's pause announcement. It produces
- 23:11Speaker 5: I noted, the biggest single day increase in the stock
- 23:13Speaker 5: market in history, and I hope the next ninety days
- 23:17Speaker 5: we will see deal after deal after deal, slashing tariffs
- 23:22Speaker 5: and opening markets to American producers.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying something like that in
- 23:27Speaker 4: the cabinet meeting when he said this about the president,
- 23:30Speaker 4: and also he said which I think was interesting. He said,
- 23:34Speaker 4: and I'm going to quote him, he said, one of
- 23:35Speaker 4: the most important things you'll achieve in your presidency is
- 23:37Speaker 4: re ordering the world in a proper way. For more
- 23:40Speaker 4: than thirty one years, multiple administrations have allowed the Chinese
- 23:44Speaker 4: to de industrialize this country, to take away jobs and
- 23:47Speaker 4: factories and pillars of our national strength. Like this is
- 23:51Speaker 4: from a Secretary of State who's saying this is the ballgame. Yes,
- 23:55Speaker 4: and then National Security is saying this is the ballgame.
- 23:58Speaker 4: And then producers are saying this is the ballgame, and
- 24:01Speaker 4: American workers are saying, this is the ballgame. I've never
- 24:06Speaker 4: seen a moment politically where so many different factions are
- 24:10Speaker 4: all seen to be aligned and understanding this threat, which
- 24:14Speaker 4: it's in fact is China. And so you look at
- 24:17Speaker 4: the next ninety days, it's very important and there's got
- 24:20Speaker 4: to be deals done. When do you think will start
- 24:23Speaker 4: to see deals and momentum because it's all about momentum, Right,
- 24:26Speaker 4: you get one with Vietnam, or you get one with Taiwan,
- 24:28Speaker 4: or you get one with Malaysia or India wherever it is, right,
- 24:31Speaker 4: and you start going country by country, when will we
- 24:34Speaker 4: start see that because that's what the market's now looking for.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Look, so what I urged the president Tuesday night is
- 24:39Speaker 5: negotiate a deal fast.
- 24:42Speaker 3: I said, I.
- 24:43Speaker 5: Don't care what country, just get one on the books,
- 24:46Speaker 5: get one and have it be a massive reduction on
- 24:48Speaker 5: both sides, because that will assuage people. Okay, this is
- 24:52Speaker 5: the path we're going down. When you have seventy plus
- 24:54Speaker 5: countries that are seeking negotiate deals, that takes a little
- 24:57Speaker 5: bit of time. That's complicated. Yes, and so I really
- 25:02Speaker 5: like the ninety day pause because it gives you ninety
- 25:05Speaker 5: days to OSHA deals. And so I hope in the
- 25:08Speaker 5: next ninety days we see deal after deal after deal,
- 25:11Speaker 5: and I think it'll build momentum.
- 25:13Speaker 3: So you think in weeks we'll start seeing the first ones.
- 25:19Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know if it'll be weeks
- 25:22Speaker 5: or thirty to sixty days. I don't know how long
- 25:25Speaker 5: it takes.
- 25:26Speaker 3: The ninety days gives us time to do it right.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Ninety days gives us time to do it right. And
- 25:33Speaker 5: I have a high level of confidence than in the
- 25:35Speaker 5: next ninety days we will see a bunch of them.
- 25:38Speaker 5: How quickly given the ninety day pause, there's not the urgency.
- 25:42Speaker 5: What I was urging, what I said on Hannity is
- 25:43Speaker 5: do it now, don't wait a week like do it tomorrow,
- 25:47Speaker 5: because frankly, the market's freaking out and you don't want
- 25:49Speaker 5: people's four one ks to go to crap. And so
- 25:54Speaker 5: I think think there was real value to moving quickly.
- 25:57Speaker 5: The pause essentially buys you time to then negotiate the deals,
- 26:03Speaker 5: and I hope that's what they're gonna do.
- 26:06Speaker 4: All right before you go to this vote at one
- 26:08Speaker 4: o'clock in the morning. Not a joke, I want to
- 26:11Speaker 4: ask you about this other I would just say insane
- 26:15Speaker 4: news because I can't believe they've been allowed to do
- 26:18Speaker 4: it for so long. And that is that is Mexico
- 26:22Speaker 4: stealing water, which is suffocating farmers.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeap.
- 26:26Speaker 4: Specifically, it's happening in Texas and it's making farming industry
- 26:32Speaker 4: collapse and farmers disappearing from areas because there is no water.
- 26:36Speaker 5: So let me give you the background because this is
- 26:38Speaker 5: a really important issue. It's important in Texas, but it's
- 26:41Speaker 5: important in the country, which is there's a water treaty
- 26:44Speaker 5: that we signed with Mexico in nineteen forty four, the
- 26:47Speaker 5: Mexican Water Treaty of nineteen forty four. It obligates Mexico
- 26:52Speaker 5: to provide three hundred and fifty thousand acre feet of
- 26:55Speaker 5: water a year to South Texas. That's over a five
- 26:59Speaker 5: year period.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:01Speaker 5: For the last five years, Mexico has been openly and
- 27:07Speaker 5: brazenly violating the treaty. They've not been providing the water
- 27:13Speaker 5: they are right now in this five year period, one
- 27:16Speaker 5: point three million acre feet in arrears water they have
- 27:21Speaker 5: not provided that they've committed by treaty to provide. Now
- 27:24Speaker 5: what are they doing. They're diverting that water that should
- 27:28Speaker 5: go to South Texas farmers under the treaty to Mexican farmers.
- 27:32Speaker 5: And a couple of things are happening. So in South
- 27:34Speaker 5: Texas there is a massive drought going on. It is
- 27:38Speaker 5: doing enormous damage to farmers. And when I spent a
- 27:42Speaker 5: lot of time in South Texas and the damage to farmers,
- 27:48Speaker 5: we're seeing a lot of South Texas farmers that are
- 27:50Speaker 5: taking half of their acreage out of production. They're shutting
- 27:54Speaker 5: down half of their.
- 27:55Speaker 3: Farms just because they don't have the water to do
- 27:57Speaker 3: it right.
- 27:57Speaker 5: They're laying off thousand of workers. So there was one
- 28:03Speaker 5: sugar mill in all of Texas last year. It shut
- 28:08Speaker 5: down because of water, and it shut down because the
- 28:12Speaker 5: sugar farmers did not have the water to raise the
- 28:14Speaker 5: sugar wow And it's gone.
- 28:16Speaker 3: And Mexico on the other side, as green as can be.
- 28:20Speaker 5: It is green as can be the Mexican farmers are prospering.
- 28:23Speaker 5: They're literally stealing our water. And by the way, like
- 28:26Speaker 5: President Trump talks a lot about foreign countries taking advantage
- 28:30Speaker 5: of America's example, this is this is literally the Mexican
- 28:34Speaker 5: government stealing our water.
- 28:35Speaker 3: And did Joe Biden do anything to stop this? Zero?
- 28:37Speaker 5: And he knew about it, so he knew about it.
- 28:39Speaker 5: So I've engaged this issue. I engaged. I started engaging
- 28:43Speaker 5: about two years ago. And I started engaging when I
- 28:45Speaker 5: was down in South Texas and I did a roundtail
- 28:47Speaker 5: with farmers and they raised this issue to me. And
- 28:50Speaker 5: two years ago, I didn't know what the water Tree
- 28:53Speaker 5: of nineteen forty four was, and they explained it to me.
- 28:56Speaker 5: And at the time they were really worried, We're going
- 28:58Speaker 5: to lose our sugar mill if this doesn't change. And
- 29:02Speaker 5: I said, look, I think I can help. I'm going
- 29:04Speaker 5: to lean in. And I began leaning in aggressively. I
- 29:07Speaker 5: forced a vote on the Senate floor on an amendment
- 29:11Speaker 5: to direct the State Department to use every lever point
- 29:14Speaker 5: we have to force Mexico to comply with a water treaty.
- 29:18Speaker 5: I got a majority of the senator bipartisan majority, and
- 29:22Speaker 5: then there's a water commissioner for the United States. I
- 29:25Speaker 5: leaned in with the water commissioner, said, look, the Senate
- 29:27Speaker 5: has spoken a bipartisan majority, and here's the fundamental problem.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Joe Biden didn't give a damn about this. So I
- 29:36Speaker 5: desperately tried to get the Biden administration to exert leverage,
- 29:39Speaker 5: and they just didn't care.
- 29:41Speaker 4: Now, by the way, leverage for Donald Trump at this
- 29:43Speaker 4: point was him saying, hey, I'm coming after you with
- 29:46Speaker 4: tariffs or sanctions, so do the right thing now before
- 29:49Speaker 4: I have to do that, and they know he means it.
- 29:51Speaker 4: Unlike even if you had that same statement from Joe Biden,
- 29:53Speaker 4: he ain't gonna do anything.
- 29:54Speaker 5: So in South Texas cities are also facing massive drought.
- 29:58Speaker 5: You're literally facing the cities not having enough water for
- 30:01Speaker 5: their citizens because Mexico's stealing the water. And so I
- 30:04Speaker 5: leaned in. I could not get the Biden's administration do
- 30:08Speaker 5: a damn thing. In December, as part of the Continuing Resolution,
- 30:12Speaker 5: I authored legislation that got adopted that provided two hundred
- 30:16Speaker 5: and eighty million dollars in emergency relief for Texas farmers
- 30:19Speaker 5: because they're they're going broke. And we're talking about generational farms,
- 30:23Speaker 5: farms that have been three or four generations who were
- 30:27Speaker 5: being bankrupted because their government is not enforcing the treaty
- 30:30Speaker 5: and they're being starved of water. And so several weeks
- 30:35Speaker 5: ago I went down to South Texas with Brook Rawlins.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Brook Rollins is the Secretary of Agriculture. Brooke has been
- 30:41Speaker 5: a good friend of mine for twenty five years. She's
- 30:43Speaker 5: a Texan. She's the first Texan in the history of
- 30:46Speaker 5: the country to be the Secretary of Agriculture. She's also
- 30:50Speaker 5: the first Secretary of Agriculture ever to go to the
- 30:53Speaker 5: Rio Grande Valley Wow. And she came to the valley
- 30:56Speaker 5: at my request. I asked her come down with me,
- 30:59Speaker 5: and we did. We did a press conference number one
- 31:02Speaker 5: where she announced I've got two hundred and eighty million
- 31:04Speaker 5: dollars I'm giving the South Texas farmers because your federal
- 31:07Speaker 5: government has been screwing you by not getting the water
- 31:09Speaker 5: back and Mexico is starving you. But we also did
- 31:13Speaker 5: a roundtable. We did a roundtable with farmers where Brooke
- 31:16Speaker 5: and I talked with the farmers and the Rio grand
- 31:20Speaker 5: Valley has been bright blue for one hundred years, in
- 31:26Speaker 5: twenty twenty four, the Rio Grand Valley flipped red. I
- 31:31Speaker 5: won the valley and Donald Trump won the valley.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 31:35Speaker 5: That has never happened. I won Hispanic statewide in Texas
- 31:38Speaker 5: by six points. That's never happened. I have spent an
- 31:42Speaker 5: enormous amount of time and millions of dollars in the
- 31:44Speaker 5: valley trying to flip the valley red because I saw
- 31:47Speaker 5: the potential there. And so I think I've invested more
- 31:49Speaker 5: than any elected official in Texas in terms of turning
- 31:52Speaker 5: the valley red. Well, I got to say, sitting there
- 31:55Speaker 5: at that roundtable, you got farmers and ranchers and you're
- 31:58Speaker 5: just asking them. Look over the last four years, did
- 32:02Speaker 5: Joe Biden do a damn thing for you?
- 32:05Speaker 2: No?
- 32:06Speaker 3: And that's how you turn this.
- 32:07Speaker 5: And what I told them as I said, listen, if
- 32:10Speaker 5: there's one thing you know about Donald Trump, he will
- 32:13Speaker 5: stand up to foreign countries and fight for you. And
- 32:16Speaker 5: I made that commitment. And frankly, look, these are voters
- 32:22Speaker 5: who their entire lives have voted Democrats. Their parents voted Democrat,
- 32:27Speaker 5: their grandparents voted Democrat, their great grandparents voted Democrat. And
- 32:33Speaker 5: this last election, for the first time, they pulled the
- 32:35Speaker 5: lever for a Republican going down there and saying, look,
- 32:38Speaker 5: we're fighting for you, We're going to get you. The
- 32:40Speaker 5: damn water is one of the ways you lock those votes.
- 32:43Speaker 5: And it's a generational shift for Texas.
- 32:47Speaker 4: By the way, this is the first time for Verdict.
- 32:49Speaker 4: They've just opened the vote.
- 32:51Speaker 3: They're only keeping it open for fifteen minutes.
- 32:53Speaker 5: So I'm gonna go momentario.
- 32:54Speaker 4: You're gonna go momentarily, which means actually it's about twelve
- 32:56Speaker 4: minutes because I've a couple minutes behind. Just this is
- 32:59Speaker 4: why I love doing it, because this is how it
- 33:01Speaker 4: really works, and it's sanding in the Senate.
- 33:03Speaker 5: So I will say this. I called President Trump a
- 33:07Speaker 5: week ago and I said, miss President, would make a
- 33:11Speaker 5: huge difference if you leaned in personally with the President
- 33:14Speaker 5: of Mexico and said, provide us the water.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Yeah, knock it off.
- 33:19Speaker 5: And he said, I'll tell you what. I'll send a
- 33:21Speaker 5: truth social post. And so I worked with him on
- 33:24Speaker 5: the wording of it, and and tonight when I was
- 33:28Speaker 5: in the Oval, I said, miss President, can you send
- 33:31Speaker 5: that truth post?
- 33:32Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:33Speaker 5: He sent it tonight. I'm going to read it to you.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Here's what President Trump sent this evening. Mexico owes Texas
- 33:41Speaker 5: one point three million acre feet of water under the
- 33:44Speaker 5: nineteen forty four Water Treaty, but Mexico is unfortunately violating
- 33:49Speaker 5: their treaty obligation. This is very unfair and it is
- 33:53Speaker 5: hurting South Texas farmers very badly. Last year, the only
- 33:58Speaker 5: sugar mill in Texas closed because Mexico has been stealing
- 34:04Speaker 5: the water from Texas farmers. Ted Cruz has been leading
- 34:08Speaker 5: the fight to get South Texas the water it is owed,
- 34:13Speaker 5: but Sleepy Joe refused to lift a finger to help
- 34:17Speaker 5: the farmers. This ends now. I will make sure that
- 34:24Speaker 5: Mexico doesn't violate our treaties and doesn't hurt our Texas farmers.
- 34:29Speaker 5: Just last month, I halted water shipments to Tijuana until
- 34:34Speaker 5: Mexico complies with the nineteen forty four water Treaty. My
- 34:39Speaker 5: Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins is standing up for Texas farmers
- 34:44Speaker 5: and we will keep escalating consequences, including TIFFs and maybe
- 34:51Speaker 5: even sanctions, until Mexico honors the treaty and gives Texas
- 34:58Speaker 5: the water they are owned and gives Texas the water
- 35:01Speaker 5: they are owed. Is in all caps.
- 35:03Speaker 3: There you go.
- 35:03Speaker 5: That tweet got sent out tonight. I'll tell you in
- 35:06Speaker 5: just within an hour of that tweet going out, the
- 35:09Speaker 5: President of Mexico is sent out of tweet saying we're
- 35:12Speaker 5: gonna fix this. We're gonna fix this, and the Mexican
- 35:14Speaker 5: government is freaking out. That's what it looks like. The
- 35:19Speaker 5: later president who is fighting for America, Joe Biden, could
- 35:22Speaker 5: have done that for four years, but he didn't give
- 35:24Speaker 5: a flip about farmers in South Texas going out of business.
- 35:28Speaker 5: The President's tweet, and I can tell you Mexico is
- 35:32Speaker 5: in the process now negotiating with the state department to
- 35:35Speaker 5: provide for the water. We're gonna get the water, and
- 35:38Speaker 5: that's a great that's a great, great victory for Texas
- 35:41Speaker 5: in America.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Go vote. You're on the clock now. I love it.
