- 1:47Speaker 1: series follows singer, rapper, songwriter, record producer for Royal Williams
- 1:51Speaker 1: and who is his nephew, Bishop Willims. In this core
- 1:54Speaker 1: of team influential gospel leaders venture into Hampton Rhodes and
- 1:57Speaker 1: he's gonna tell us what happened to Rhods. Is all
- 1:59Speaker 1: about to find undiscovered talent. Please welcome to money making Conversations.
- 2:03Speaker 1: The inspiration behind the Voices of Fire, Bishop Ezekiel Williams.
- 2:08Speaker 1: How you doing, sir? Thank you so much, sir. I
- 2:11Speaker 1: am well and glad to be here. Well, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 1: first of all, I've seen the series twice. It was
- 2:18Speaker 1: when it first came out, it was trending and still
- 2:21Speaker 1: is trending on Netflix at the top top You know,
- 2:24Speaker 1: you do a top ten if you have don't have
- 2:26Speaker 1: a Nextflix account. When you're poding up top ten, that
- 2:28Speaker 1: means everybody's watching it. And usually how it works is
- 2:32Speaker 1: this is a series. It's six episodes, so as people
- 2:35Speaker 1: watch another explot, they go next to it and it
- 2:37Speaker 1: causes your serious to trend, which bolds well because that's
- 2:40Speaker 1: what Netflix want, and Voices of Fire is um I
- 2:45Speaker 1: would call like an audio testimonial. Can I say that?
- 2:51Speaker 1: I think you can? I think I think that's that's
- 2:54Speaker 1: a good, uh good way to put it. And Uh.
- 2:58Speaker 1: If I had that have a different title, the title
- 3:02Speaker 1: workshop Voices of Fire, it could have been this is
- 3:06Speaker 1: my story, that could have been the title, um feel
- 3:10Speaker 1: the Voice. But the name of this series is Voices
- 3:15Speaker 1: of Fire, and that works out just fired. I'm just
- 3:17Speaker 1: telling you, Bishop, it took me on a journey and
- 3:20Speaker 1: allowed me to think about my life, think about the
- 3:24Speaker 1: expectations people have for you, for yourself, the setbacks that
- 3:30Speaker 1: you achieve in life. And I got emotional at times.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Tell me your goal because because you think you hit
- 3:38Speaker 1: all the points with me, that's wonderful. I am so
- 3:43Speaker 1: glad to here and just amaze that you were able
- 3:47Speaker 1: to take the time to do it twice all six episodes.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Thank you so much. Listen, we aim to touch lives.
- 3:56Speaker 1: My whole goal. It's just spread the good news about
- 4:01Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. And so I've come to realize that people
- 4:04Speaker 1: don't always want to hear you preach over the pulpit,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and so music is a medium that we can utilize,
- 4:13Speaker 1: a tool that we can utilize that transcends all walks
- 4:18Speaker 1: of life. Everybody's uh loves music, and so we found
- 4:22Speaker 1: that that was a good way to get the message out.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And so I think that that has been achieved. But
- 4:28Speaker 1: in the process, I believe that the Lord does what
- 4:33Speaker 1: he does, and he touches lives. He takes one one
- 4:36Speaker 1: incident and he causes a different outcome in everybody's life.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And so when we came together and we began to
- 4:44Speaker 1: sing and to to to worship as we did, and
- 4:48Speaker 1: to even record the testimonies of so many individuals, man,
- 4:54Speaker 1: let me tell you, it was amazing and it just
- 4:58Speaker 1: invoked all kinds of emotions. Well, Bishop Um, this series
- 5:04Speaker 1: when it was when it was brought to me, I
- 5:06Speaker 1: had to bring it to show the fact I want
- 5:07Speaker 1: to get Larry, who is your music director? I want
- 5:10Speaker 1: to get paid who is your vocal coach? And my
- 5:12Speaker 1: boy Patrick, you know, he's the he's the comedy relief,
- 5:15Speaker 1: but he's also a brilliant choirmaster. Okay, let's don't be
- 5:18Speaker 1: real about it. When Lynette walked out from me said, uh,
- 5:22Speaker 1: she can sing and she find he's real. He's real.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Love it very much. And so you know, because you
- 5:35Speaker 1: said that in your in the documentary about sometimes people
- 5:39Speaker 1: don't want to hear you preach it. Sometimes you have
- 5:40Speaker 1: to do. You have to tell the story of the
- 5:43Speaker 1: gospel a different way, and music always connects with people.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But but this was a local project called Hampton Rose.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Tell everybody about Hampton Rhodes, Virginia. Well, Hampton Rhodes, uh
- 5:55Speaker 1: is a wonderful place to reside. Of course, it's uh
- 6:01Speaker 1: heavily military in our area, and so it's transient. We
- 6:05Speaker 1: have people who come from all parts of the world
- 6:08Speaker 1: uh to reside here. They're here for a season and
- 6:11Speaker 1: then they're gone. Some people take up their roots or
- 6:14Speaker 1: make plant their roots here and um it's always been
- 6:19Speaker 1: a musical area. Were seated right here on the eastern seaboard,
- 6:24Speaker 1: uh right, you know, below New York and d C.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And right above North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and all
- 6:32Speaker 1: of these places are very very musical places. But it
- 6:36Speaker 1: makes Virginia, it makes Hapton Roads almost like a melting
- 6:42Speaker 1: pot or um, as they say in New Orleans, a
- 6:46Speaker 1: big pot of gumbo. We have a little bit of everything,
- 6:48Speaker 1: and we've produced some of the nation's greatest artists that
- 6:54Speaker 1: there ever was, and so I'm very very proud of that.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And um, music just kind of flows throughout the angs here.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You know. The interesting thing about because I've been in
- 7:04Speaker 1: the area a lot. You know, Steve Harvey and ire
- 7:07Speaker 1: the Chrystler Hall. I know exactly. I've been on that
- 7:10Speaker 1: stage Chrysler Hall, so I know the brilliance, that facility,
- 7:14Speaker 1: the quality. I know that community is sold a lot
- 7:17Speaker 1: of many a concert down there in that Chrysler Hall
- 7:19Speaker 1: area and great food, a very uh community driven area
- 7:27Speaker 1: down there. But you talk. The thing I want to
- 7:31Speaker 1: talk about this series is that you got me emotional.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Then you taught me something a boy sopranos, altos and tennis.
- 7:38Speaker 1: And then these three individuals I mentioned their name earlier,
- 7:42Speaker 1: Peggy the vocal code, Patrick chef mouth choir master, excuse me,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and then the more Larry talk about how they came
- 7:49Speaker 1: together in the project. Because we know about for real
- 7:51Speaker 1: superstar rapper, and I also learned two things about for
- 7:54Speaker 1: Real Off stage he's a for real All stage, he's
- 7:59Speaker 1: a farrel because stay that star power takes over stay.
- 8:04Speaker 1: He's humble, he's a he's a he's a great person
- 8:07Speaker 1: both places, but it's different. He understands his position in life.
- 8:11Speaker 1: On stage he's a superstar. Off stage he's a humble,
- 8:14Speaker 1: engaged individual. But you had three people that help you
- 8:17Speaker 1: carry this magnificent series. Let's talk about them absolutely. And
- 8:22Speaker 1: that's an easy thing to do, because for me it
- 8:26Speaker 1: was a no brainer. Um. Most of us have worked
- 8:30Speaker 1: together all of our lives. Uh. Peggy was one of
- 8:34Speaker 1: the individuals who gave me, UH, my first opportunity of
- 8:40Speaker 1: exposure with some of the greater stars that would come
- 8:44Speaker 1: to the Hampton Roads area. As I played music most
- 8:48Speaker 1: of my life piano and organ, and I was able
- 8:51Speaker 1: to play for her choir, legendary choir, the Philharmonics and UM.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And so she gave me the opportunity to work with
- 9:00Speaker 1: him at maybe the age about fifteen years old. And
- 9:03Speaker 1: so UM, I have a long lasting relationship with her.
- 9:08Speaker 1: She's one of the best at what she does. And UM,
- 9:11Speaker 1: of course, Patrick Riddick we grew up in the same church.
- 9:15Speaker 1: He's younger than I, but we both attended the same church,
- 9:19Speaker 1: New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ where our late
- 9:22Speaker 1: founder was the late Bishop Barnett Carl thur Good, the
- 9:26Speaker 1: man installed so much in all of us and UM,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and so working with him there at the church, I
- 9:34Speaker 1: knew his ability, his competence, and UH, I knew that
- 9:38Speaker 1: he was going to be the one for the job.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And then Larry George, a young man. He's my own
- 9:44Speaker 1: pastor of music there at Faith World Ministry, and so
- 9:47Speaker 1: we couldn't do anything without him. I've watched him take
- 9:51Speaker 1: a group of singers that were mediocre and just turned
- 9:55Speaker 1: them into stella voices, and so he was a no
- 10:00Speaker 1: brainer for me to pull them all together to assist
- 10:03Speaker 1: me in this project. I have my own musical career,
- 10:08Speaker 1: but for some time after I started preaching, I put
- 10:11Speaker 1: it on the chef shelf. And and and and later it
- 10:16Speaker 1: was my nephew that helped me to understand, No, the
- 10:20Speaker 1: world needs what you have to offer, and we need
- 10:23Speaker 1: to come together and do something to demonstrate that. And
- 10:27Speaker 1: and here's where we are. We are you you you
- 10:31Speaker 1: you landed in a great place. And you know, Netflix
- 10:34Speaker 1: is an amazing storyteller, because there was Rodney Scott. I
- 10:40Speaker 1: discovered him and that barbecue, his ability to bar based
- 10:43Speaker 1: on that storytelling, that Chef series. Now we got a gospel.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Here's the thing that interests me the most because it's
- 10:50Speaker 1: a diverse gospel. I got the fact that you could
- 10:53Speaker 1: have easily said, you know, I'm gonna get the best
- 10:55Speaker 1: black gospel singers, but that wasn't the goal of this series.
- 10:59Speaker 1: The goal of a series was to create a diverse
- 11:02Speaker 1: so you can pull everybody in. Everybody can understand that
- 11:06Speaker 1: they can hear the word, seeing the word, and participate
- 11:09Speaker 1: technical doctors walking through the steps of why that was
- 11:12Speaker 1: important to you? That was very important to me because
- 11:16Speaker 1: I have a vision of building or or forming a
- 11:21Speaker 1: multicultural church. And so for me, having acquired that just
- 11:26Speaker 1: consisted of people who looked like me was not going
- 11:30Speaker 1: to help me to accomplish that goal. And so I
- 11:35Speaker 1: envisioned the acquire that was comprised of people from all
- 11:39Speaker 1: walks of life. And uh, and I guess my whole
- 11:42Speaker 1: thought was, you know, we we know in the Black
- 11:45Speaker 1: gospel choir. You we know about the a launching, and
- 11:48Speaker 1: we know that the powerful individuals that sing. But I
- 11:52Speaker 1: was more interested in pulling in Caucasians and Latinos and
- 11:57Speaker 1: and people from different ethnicities that were also Orientals, that
- 12:02Speaker 1: were also equally talented, equally anointed. And I felt like
- 12:07Speaker 1: if we put them together in a choir, when people
- 12:11Speaker 1: saw people that look like them or saw individuals who
- 12:15Speaker 1: resembled them, it would be an open invitation for them
- 12:19Speaker 1: to come and to worship it, to be a part
- 12:22Speaker 1: of what we were doing at Faith World and and
- 12:25Speaker 1: and so far, I must say it has worked it
- 12:29Speaker 1: as we have accomplished that goal. I've been contacted by
- 12:32Speaker 1: people from all over the world, and uh, I would
- 12:36Speaker 1: have never imagined. I would have never imagined. I was
- 12:39Speaker 1: thinking on one level. But when you get calls from
- 12:42Speaker 1: Brazil and Switzerland and Norway and and um Sri Lanka
- 12:49Speaker 1: and so many other places. Uh, it really just blows
- 12:53Speaker 1: your mind that God is really able to do exceeding
- 12:57Speaker 1: abundantly above all that we can ask to think according
- 13:00Speaker 1: to the power that works in us. I'm talking to
- 13:04Speaker 1: Bishop of Ezeko Williams other I was called the hit series,
- 13:07Speaker 1: popular series, the trending series Voices on Netflix. You know
- 13:12Speaker 1: you used the word gumble earlier, and I I thought
- 13:15Speaker 1: ran through my mind when I watched the series, and
- 13:17Speaker 1: I want to be an insultant and use the word gumble,
- 13:19Speaker 1: But you use the word gumble. Guess what. I'm from Houston, Texas.
- 13:22Speaker 1: I love gumbo. Okay, So when I when when when
- 13:26Speaker 1: I see you know, whether Maria, you know dan Lee,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know the Pucky twins, you know all coming together? Ilana.
- 13:37Speaker 1: What people need to understand about the series is that
- 13:39Speaker 1: this is this series is bigger than music. It's about life.
- 13:43Speaker 1: It's about what we need right now when we come
- 13:46Speaker 1: out of twenty and going to one. We need to
- 13:50Speaker 1: understand that we can all eat at the same table,
- 13:53Speaker 1: because that's what happens. People feel that when you look different,
- 13:56Speaker 1: that you don't have the same sensibilities, the same eating habits,
- 14:00Speaker 1: the same lifestyle needs. And what this series did for me,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I believe you put some people in an uncomfortable environment
- 14:09Speaker 1: and they became comfortable, and that's where the anointing part
- 14:12Speaker 1: comes out. Correct. Yes, yes, yes, absolutely, and all things
- 14:18Speaker 1: work together for the good of them that love the Lord.
- 14:21Speaker 1: And I'm telling you, when we put those individuals together,
- 14:25Speaker 1: we did not know initially that or what their story
- 14:30Speaker 1: was or how amazing their stories were. But God knew,
- 14:35Speaker 1: and so it was an opportunity for us to work together,
- 14:39Speaker 1: to get to know one another. And there was a
- 14:42Speaker 1: love that U began to develop between the choir members
- 14:47Speaker 1: and the directors, and we became one big family. And no,
- 14:52Speaker 1: they didn't say, okay, Bishop Williams, we want to become
- 14:56Speaker 1: members of your church necessarily, but that was a love
- 14:59Speaker 1: that super see them even that kind of commitment, And uh,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I think it's a wonderful thing because um, God has
- 15:07Speaker 1: the ability to erase all the boundaries and all of
- 15:12Speaker 1: all of the lines of division. And in a time
- 15:16Speaker 1: when our country has seen so much division, I thought
- 15:20Speaker 1: it was amazing that this series came out, um at
- 15:26Speaker 1: the time, during our election and all of that, when
- 15:29Speaker 1: there was so much division working in our country, this
- 15:31Speaker 1: series came out to show that we can work together.
- 15:34Speaker 1: There are still people who don't see color, but we
- 15:38Speaker 1: just see souls, we see lives, we see individuals um
- 15:42Speaker 1: that are just like us, just different skin and and
- 15:46Speaker 1: it all makes sense to me, It really did. And
- 15:49Speaker 1: so let me let me set the tone for everybody
- 15:51Speaker 1: who have not seen the series and have seen this series,
- 15:53Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just bringing back good feelings, a good time,
- 15:56Speaker 1: good news. As they said, I'm bringing back good news.
- 15:59Speaker 1: And you have four black people here, well five you
- 16:03Speaker 1: want to clean forever? Who say I want to bring
- 16:05Speaker 1: together mixed voices? Because a a Lana, she was fifteen
- 16:10Speaker 1: years old. She only has one ear, so she can
- 16:13Speaker 1: only really hear fifty of the sound. She's white at tag. Okay,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I was just gonna and then you have dan Lee.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Who are I say that was the one that was
- 16:24Speaker 1: gonna make me cry? But I'm sure you guys cried
- 16:26Speaker 1: a lot too. So when she did just Jesus Loves Me,
- 16:29Speaker 1: I went, Okay, Sure, a song I know I've sung
- 16:35Speaker 1: in my life so many times. But why is this
- 16:38Speaker 1: song affecting me? I'm gonna ask you that question, Bishop,
- 16:41Speaker 1: Why did that song when she sunk it dan Lee
- 16:45Speaker 1: affect me? Well? Because she she sang that song from
- 16:51Speaker 1: a place of sincerity. She sang that song from a
- 16:55Speaker 1: place of experience. Um. We don't know everybody's story, We
- 17:02Speaker 1: don't know everybody's walk ofme life, but I can imagine,
- 17:06Speaker 1: um that she's had her challenges and as we all
- 17:10Speaker 1: have experienced rejection and many different things in life, and
- 17:14Speaker 1: to come to a place where, um, she understands that
- 17:19Speaker 1: regardless of what I've been through, regardless of what I've
- 17:22Speaker 1: had to deal with in life, regardless to to to
- 17:25Speaker 1: the different hills and valids and mountains and low places
- 17:30Speaker 1: that Jesus loves me. When you come to that reality,
- 17:34Speaker 1: when you come to that place of awareness, that there's
- 17:39Speaker 1: nothing that you can do that will cause him to
- 17:42Speaker 1: not love you, or that will UM prevent his love
- 17:47Speaker 1: in your life. It's a wonderful place to be alive.
- 17:51Speaker 1: And and and I think that's where she was um
- 17:55Speaker 1: and when the tears were flowing and she says Jesus
- 17:58Speaker 1: loves me, and I don't want to giveaway too much,
- 18:01Speaker 1: but when but when she says everybody deserves to be loved,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I cannot watch that scene without tearing up. I get it.
- 18:12Speaker 1: I get it, and and that's a message that we
- 18:15Speaker 1: want the world to get. I'm gonna tell everybody. I
- 18:20Speaker 1: spoke to the bishop prior to the interview so I
- 18:23Speaker 1: can get it out of my system because I knew
- 18:25Speaker 1: that if I revealed this on the show, how to
- 18:28Speaker 1: slow down and had to take some moments together myself,
- 18:32Speaker 1: because not only her rose when she saw Yeah, she
- 18:39Speaker 1: took me there, good old girl out of Houston, Texas
- 18:42Speaker 1: country as you can get right, and you know Marcus
- 18:48Speaker 1: took me there. When you hear his story, because I
- 18:49Speaker 1: can't tell you this story, you need to watch the series.
- 18:51Speaker 1: But everybody has a testimony the tells them why they
- 18:57Speaker 1: walked through these doors and why they were chosen because
- 19:00Speaker 1: there were three thousand applicants Okay, three hundred were cut
- 19:04Speaker 1: down to three hundred, and they came in and we
- 19:07Speaker 1: saw a part of these stories. Now, the part of
- 19:10Speaker 1: this story is that what you had to deal with
- 19:13Speaker 1: in in your compadres, I want to say, because y'all
- 19:17Speaker 1: had to see it all, we only saw a version
- 19:19Speaker 1: of that. Where were you guys that emotionally doing this
- 19:22Speaker 1: whole journey? Bishop? Well, it was very difficult. I think
- 19:27Speaker 1: it was hard for for everyone involved, but it was
- 19:31Speaker 1: difficult for me because, um, the talent was so good.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I mean, if you had to score from one to
- 19:41Speaker 1: a hundred for each individuals, um we had out of
- 19:47Speaker 1: the three hundred, we probably had two hundred one hundreds.
- 19:52Speaker 1: So at that point, you know, you have to make
- 19:55Speaker 1: some decisions, and it can't just be based on their
- 19:58Speaker 1: musical ability. That becomes very difficult because you seeing everybody's
- 20:03Speaker 1: eyes and you hear in everyone's voice that this is
- 20:07Speaker 1: something that they've dreamed, dreamt about, and this is something
- 20:11Speaker 1: that they've wanted to do, uh for so very very long,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and they're right here on the at the brink of
- 20:19Speaker 1: their their dream coming true, and you have to decide
- 20:23Speaker 1: will you make it? Uh? Will we send you home?
- 20:26Speaker 1: It's a very very difficult place to be in, and
- 20:30Speaker 1: we labor greatly uh in that and and and there
- 20:33Speaker 1: were sometimes of frustration, um that there were even individuals
- 20:39Speaker 1: that that the other said, hey, we gotta let them go.
- 20:44Speaker 1: That I even went back. It's not shown on the video,
- 20:47Speaker 1: but I even went back and said, can't we give
- 20:50Speaker 1: them a one more chance? Is there anything else we
- 20:52Speaker 1: can do? My heart, my heart was very very very
- 20:55Speaker 1: attached to much of what was taken place because you
- 20:58Speaker 1: say it at the beginning, no callbacks, one shot to
- 21:02Speaker 1: showcase your talent. That's right, absolutely and and and trust me,
- 21:09Speaker 1: I was reminded of that several times during the process
- 21:15Speaker 1: as I tried to bother and reason uh with individuals
- 21:19Speaker 1: concerning other thingers, I was reminded, you know, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: we gotta what what what did for rel say, um,
- 21:28Speaker 1: we want to acquire full of unicorns? And so um,
- 21:33Speaker 1: that made the difference, That made the difference because you
- 21:36Speaker 1: said everybody was a winner. This voice is different styles,
- 21:42Speaker 1: cultural difference, and you want to mail that into one
- 21:47Speaker 1: giant unicorn, which I felt was accomplished, but it's broken
- 21:51Speaker 1: down each series. The first three episodes are to me
- 21:55Speaker 1: the most emotional part of the series. Don't get it.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Wrongs are there too, because you get to know the people,
- 22:02Speaker 1: you get to hear that story, you get to see
- 22:04Speaker 1: that that passionate singing that coming from the you know
- 22:09Speaker 1: he and Ki Ki and a classical apple training. You know,
- 22:12Speaker 1: you talk about Damien and his uh, his attempts with
- 22:15Speaker 1: his life and how I went sideways several times. And
- 22:18Speaker 1: because I read dan Lee uh you know Jasmine, you
- 22:22Speaker 1: know when she auditioned for the first time in front
- 22:24Speaker 1: of her real and again doubting herself like she doubted
- 22:28Speaker 1: herselves so many times in her life. And that's why
- 22:31Speaker 1: I'm recommended people to see this because you know, I
- 22:33Speaker 1: created money making conversation because I always tell people that,
- 22:36Speaker 1: you know, there's as so many opportunities to be great
- 22:39Speaker 1: or seek that opportunity, and we don't do it. And
- 22:42Speaker 1: that's what this series exposed because a lot of people
- 22:44Speaker 1: are looking for that second third or the or the
- 22:47Speaker 1: return from a walkaway moment that they missed out on.
- 22:50Speaker 1: You know, you know dam is one of those people,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you know, and that's really what's enlightening and inspiring to me.
- 22:56Speaker 1: So there is a strong level of inspirational it's for
- 23:00Speaker 1: Rachel in this series as well, correct Biship, that's right, absolutely,
- 23:04Speaker 1: there's a strong level of inspiration and and and that
- 23:10Speaker 1: actually was kind of where it boiled down to in
- 23:14Speaker 1: the selection of some of those difficult choices, those difficult
- 23:18Speaker 1: choices that we had to make against selecting singers um
- 23:21Speaker 1: when they had the talent and they had it all
- 23:24Speaker 1: going for them, then we had to go to the
- 23:27Speaker 1: place of saying, but who moves the audience the most?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Who who brings the spirit with them? You know? And
- 23:35Speaker 1: so that spiritual emotional um element was was very important
- 23:42Speaker 1: as well. Here's here's a fun part about the whole
- 23:46Speaker 1: series to me. Well, if you see Michael Jordan walking
- 23:49Speaker 1: a room, you know, first of all, he's six six,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and you're gonna notice something different about him. You know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: he's six six or defensive tackle or football. He may
- 23:59Speaker 1: be like through your pals, so you're gonna notice something
- 24:01Speaker 1: different about him. So you're gonna assume there's something unique
- 24:05Speaker 1: or special about that person, and it may cross humble
- 24:09Speaker 1: rumbles in the room. Who's the guy? Who's the guy?
- 24:12Speaker 1: But this show reveals how God has talented people just
- 24:16Speaker 1: walking around. They have restricted the responsibility of that talent,
- 24:22Speaker 1: and that's what this series is all about. And the
- 24:24Speaker 1: classic example is Maria. Absolutely, come on, We'll come on that.
- 24:36Speaker 1: This this young girl. Um, she reminds me of a
- 24:41Speaker 1: Sandy Patty and just a little frame, um, you know,
- 24:47Speaker 1: and you just don't expect her to be able to
- 24:51Speaker 1: do what she does. But then she she sings from
- 24:55Speaker 1: a place of sincerity and pureness, and her voice, my god,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it just penetrates your heart and uh, it's just amazing.
- 25:06Speaker 1: She's um, you know, she has a an affiliation with
- 25:11Speaker 1: Native Americans and and that's something that you would not
- 25:15Speaker 1: have known and just her whole upbringing and you just
- 25:21Speaker 1: gotta see it. You just gotta see. That's all I'm saying.
- 25:25Speaker 1: She is a hard part about it. We're talking about
- 25:28Speaker 1: the series, but we can't tell you about the series
- 25:31Speaker 1: because we want the journey to be somewhat original. Yeah,
- 25:36Speaker 1: we want you to walk in and see what we
- 25:38Speaker 1: felt visually and emotionally. And I think I think we've
- 25:41Speaker 1: done a really good job of that and telling you
- 25:44Speaker 1: the how we will impacted. Of course, you know you
- 25:47Speaker 1: were there for the entire three hundred auditions. I've seen
- 25:51Speaker 1: a small window of it, but to answer your question
- 25:53Speaker 1: when you say a certain people who doubt it. Maria
- 25:56Speaker 1: was one of those people who had doubt what she
- 25:59Speaker 1: left the room. Yes, Patrick had issues because I don't
- 26:05Speaker 1: know exactly exactly. And it's it's it's very very uh
- 26:15Speaker 1: what would I say, It's a very fulfilling um uh
- 26:20Speaker 1: feeling that you get from this when you get to
- 26:23Speaker 1: see them fight their way back and and make believers
- 26:28Speaker 1: out of the people who doubted them. Um. More than
- 26:32Speaker 1: one occasion we were skeptic and and we just didn't know.
- 26:37Speaker 1: But these same individuals went to work. I mean, they
- 26:41Speaker 1: brought their a game and they went to work, and
- 26:44Speaker 1: before it was over, we were all we were all
- 26:48Speaker 1: convinced that they were the right choice. Absolutely. You know
- 26:52Speaker 1: the Clock Sisters when it came out in um one
- 26:56Speaker 1: not one thing they kept seeing the mother major, the choir.
- 27:00Speaker 1: We're talking about that one voice, one voice. You know,
- 27:04Speaker 1: I want all y'all. Y'all might be separate, but we
- 27:07Speaker 1: need one voice. The Pucket Twins. Come on. Yeah, I
- 27:13Speaker 1: told you I've seen this series twice now, so I
- 27:18Speaker 1: can talk to you about this series all and all fair,
- 27:21Speaker 1: but the Pocket Twins one voice. Tell us about that
- 27:24Speaker 1: one voice, one voice. Uh. I really, honestly, it was
- 27:28Speaker 1: my first time experiencing anything like that. I was, I
- 27:34Speaker 1: was moved beyond expression when I heard them. That's something.
- 27:39Speaker 1: It has to be something in their DNA. Being twins. Um.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I've often heard that twins can sometimes know what the
- 27:48Speaker 1: other one is thinking, and they can feel what the
- 27:51Speaker 1: other one is going through. Well, if any of that
- 27:53Speaker 1: is true, these twins um have the ability to have
- 27:58Speaker 1: a unified voice. Um when they sing. There are times
- 28:04Speaker 1: when you can't tell one from the other. And it's amazing.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And not to mention, um, these are not what you
- 28:12Speaker 1: would call, uh, your classical or your classic soul for singers.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Um this this These boys are white, these white boys,
- 28:23Speaker 1: And I mean I would I wouldn't go. You were
- 28:27Speaker 1: feeling too much, stop, stop too much. But I'm telling you,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I mean they let you have it. And it's amazing.
- 28:39Speaker 1: You gotta see it. You gotta see it. You won't
- 28:41Speaker 1: regret it. Now you want to get uh the couple
- 28:44Speaker 1: of the additional note to the Voices of the Fire
- 28:47Speaker 1: Choir will be releasing his first single, hit The Refresh,
- 28:50Speaker 1: in February. Hit the Refreshing February and if you want
- 28:53Speaker 1: to see him February six on b ET the Voice
- 28:57Speaker 1: of the Fire Choir Voices of Fire Choir will performing
- 29:00Speaker 1: on the twenty second annual Super Bowl Gospel Celebration. And
- 29:04Speaker 1: now we're gonna see him on the for real, not
- 29:06Speaker 1: just on Netflix on cable. Well, what's the big expectation,
- 29:10Speaker 1: what's the journey for? Because in the beginning you told
- 29:12Speaker 1: them you're gonna sing here, You're gonna premier here. The
- 29:15Speaker 1: opportunity to travelers country, travelers world, is your vision happening.
- 29:20Speaker 1: It's happening, man, It's happening. And I must admit, I
- 29:24Speaker 1: gotta be honest. Much of what I was saying initially
- 29:29Speaker 1: was by faith. I was speaking by faith. I was
- 29:31Speaker 1: I was calling those things that be not as though
- 29:34Speaker 1: they were and calling them into existence. But God is
- 29:38Speaker 1: not letting it down. He's not failing me. These opportunities
- 29:42Speaker 1: are manifesting daily. UM. We're receiving calls from so many
- 29:48Speaker 1: individuals and UM just trying to pick the right UH,
- 29:52Speaker 1: make the right decisions as to the different events that
- 29:56Speaker 1: we should do. But it's been amazing. And you know,
- 30:00Speaker 1: this whole thing with the BT and the Gospel UH
- 30:05Speaker 1: celebration for the Super Bowl is one of those things.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I would have never imagined that I would be involved
- 30:12Speaker 1: in anything like that. But that's the door that has opened,
- 30:17Speaker 1: along with so many other doors. And and and yes
- 30:21Speaker 1: we have um we have also uh worked a contract
- 30:26Speaker 1: with our c a inspiration and to be on that
- 30:29Speaker 1: label or to be a part of that family. Um
- 30:34Speaker 1: with so many other gospel grades. UM, I'm not even
- 30:38Speaker 1: gonna start naming them, but you know, the greatest of
- 30:41Speaker 1: the greats are there, and uh to be listed there
- 30:45Speaker 1: among those individuals, it's it's just a true testament that
- 30:49Speaker 1: dreams really do come true. And UH. And God is
- 30:53Speaker 1: faithful to fulfill his word in your life. If it
- 30:56Speaker 1: makes you a promise, He's gonna make good on it.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And is happening. It's happening. It's a wonderful thing. Well, Bishop,
- 31:03Speaker 1: I survive, I've done this interview. UM, you know, yes,
- 31:09Speaker 1: Jesus does love us all. And then Dan Lee says
- 31:13Speaker 1: the temple in the beginning, that's the only thing I'm
- 31:15Speaker 1: gonna give aware about this series. And there are unicorns
- 31:19Speaker 1: in this series. There is redemption that is uplift, There
- 31:22Speaker 1: is motivation than there is second chance in this series.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Most importantly, there are blessings both giving and received in
- 31:30Speaker 1: this series is Voices of Fire. Uh, the inspiration I'm
- 31:34Speaker 1: speaking to him here. He's an inspiration to me. I'm
- 31:37Speaker 1: a fan of his. He may not know it, but
- 31:39Speaker 1: now he knows it publicly that any time he has
- 31:42Speaker 1: a home and money making conversation any platform I have,
- 31:45Speaker 1: so send me some banners. So when y'all air on
- 31:47Speaker 1: February six, I want to put it on all my
- 31:50Speaker 1: social media. When the single come out, please let me
- 31:53Speaker 1: know so I can post it on And then I
- 31:55Speaker 1: want to if I can get my my I called
- 31:57Speaker 1: my my Trio, my three amigos, if I get him
- 32:00Speaker 1: on the show to talk together before February six, Let's
- 32:04Speaker 1: make that happen too, because they deserve but shine as
- 32:09Speaker 1: you're being given right now, because they were the anchors
- 32:11Speaker 1: for you, and they were the blessings being able to
- 32:15Speaker 1: like when she took a Lana pulled her aside, and
- 32:19Speaker 1: there's some extra work to get her to the next
- 32:21Speaker 1: level of her success. That's what you get out of
- 32:24Speaker 1: this series. You know, we got divorce, we got the
- 32:28Speaker 1: American Idol, just a different show just to show about
- 32:33Speaker 1: receiving and getting blessings testimonials because they are allowed to
- 32:38Speaker 1: tell the story. And my man, Bishop, you're blessing brother,
- 32:43Speaker 1: Thank you God, bless you man, and thanks for having
- 32:46Speaker 1: us on the show. We enjoyed it and and will
- 32:50Speaker 1: definitely make sure that our guys are part of whatever
- 32:54Speaker 1: you want to do well well. First of all, you
- 32:57Speaker 1: know this through to sarity. When people come on to
- 32:58Speaker 1: the show, they always get caught off. Are because I'm
- 33:00Speaker 1: such a sincere interviewer, because I've been blessed man my life.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I've been doing the things I want to do in
- 33:06Speaker 1: my life since I was eighteen years old. And it's
- 33:09Speaker 1: only through you know, proper relationships, proper opportunities, proper blessings,
- 33:13Speaker 1: proper understanding that God is giving me take advantage of it.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And that's what this serious is about. And I can
- 33:18Speaker 1: talk over and over about it, but you gotta see
- 33:21Speaker 1: that if you have doubts in your life about what
- 33:23Speaker 1: you want to achieve, if age has stopped you, a
- 33:26Speaker 1: handicap has stopped you, uh, the people around you have
- 33:29Speaker 1: stopped you, That's what it's about. It's let you know
- 33:32Speaker 1: that only you can stop yourself if God gives you
- 33:35Speaker 1: an opportunity to achieve. Step through that darkness and there's
- 33:39Speaker 1: light on the other side, and it's called opportunity. And
- 33:41Speaker 1: that's where Forces of Fire is all about. Thank you
- 33:44Speaker 1: Bishop for coming on my show. Thank you God blessed.
- 33:47Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more from Rachelle McDonald and

- 37:02Speaker 1: we all need to know that it's never a clean
- 37:04Speaker 1: path to success. My next kiss has had a clean
- 37:07Speaker 1: paths to success. She is one of my favorite people.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Her name is Kyler Pratt. Kyla has crafted longevity as
- 37:13Speaker 1: an actress since starting her career as a young act
- 37:16Speaker 1: at a young age and a mass success in numerous
- 37:18Speaker 1: comedies from TV sitcoms. The film she will be reprising
- 37:22Speaker 1: a role in the Proud Family, one of my favorite
- 37:24Speaker 1: and the Baby June in the reboot The Proud Family

- 37:42Speaker 1: Making conversations for the very first part color play. When
- 37:50Speaker 1: you're looking at you're looking groovy. Is that the kind
- 37:52Speaker 1: of old groovy groovy groovy? That's good? Well, first of all,
- 37:59Speaker 1: you look fantastic, and um, because in this television age
- 38:02Speaker 1: and we you look like I'm seriously you can look
- 38:04Speaker 1: like you can probably steal a player, a young teenager.
- 38:07Speaker 1: You look fantastic. Color I get that a lot. Thank you.
- 38:11Speaker 1: It's crazy because you know, because we got the battle.
- 38:18Speaker 1: You know, because it's a it's an industry about the
- 38:20Speaker 1: youth and your ability to maintain you know. It's like
- 38:24Speaker 1: I always check people say you look good for your age.
- 38:26Speaker 1: When they're saying to me again, I'm stand next somebody
- 38:28Speaker 1: like you, they go your dad or your grandpa. So,
- 38:33Speaker 1: but you look fantastic anything you're doing because you've been
- 38:36Speaker 1: locked down on COVID to keep your spirits up and
- 38:39Speaker 1: keep physically motivated. Um, it's been difficult. Um. Actually, when
- 38:44Speaker 1: everything started happening, I was actually supposed to shoot the
- 38:47Speaker 1: pilot for called me cat and they called and they
- 38:50Speaker 1: were like, um, everything's been shut down. Um. In the
- 38:53Speaker 1: first couple of months is really really hard. Of course,
- 38:55Speaker 1: staying on top of your eating because I'm an emotional
- 38:58Speaker 1: eater and I'm like food. But after like a couple
- 39:02Speaker 1: of months, you know, I kind of had to, you know,
- 39:04Speaker 1: get it together and say, Okay, what am I putting
- 39:06Speaker 1: in my body. I'm also not exercising as much. I'm
- 39:08Speaker 1: also not getting a lot of vitamin d um. I
- 39:11Speaker 1: want to make sure that I'm healthy just in case,
- 39:13Speaker 1: you know, comeing in contact with anything COVID like, so
- 39:15Speaker 1: I can fight it off. And I just wanted to
- 39:18Speaker 1: start putting better things in my body and and started
- 39:20Speaker 1: getting physically active again and just making sure I wasn't
- 39:23Speaker 1: laying down and chilling all day. You know, some days
- 39:26Speaker 1: you gotta do that. But then you gotta get self
- 39:29Speaker 1: back on some type of schedule, and it's like, all right,
- 39:31Speaker 1: don't don't fall off too hard because it's gonna everything's
- 39:34Speaker 1: gonna open up, and then what you're gonna be looking crazy.
- 39:37Speaker 1: I gained weight too, I really did gain weight. I
- 39:40Speaker 1: was like my wife, she was, You're hungry, yeah, yeah,
- 39:45Speaker 1: And I was eating breakfast, launching dinner and I never
- 39:47Speaker 1: do that. So but guess what. I was sitting around
- 39:51Speaker 1: and I was watching TV, watching Tiger King all the
- 39:54Speaker 1: stuff you know, you know, just different shows on Fox,
- 39:56Speaker 1: ABC everything, you know, because Cowen had put me in
- 40:00Speaker 1: a lifestyle I had never done. In my face, I
- 40:02Speaker 1: couldn't control my movements and so uncertainty and so we
- 40:07Speaker 1: all trapped into that, and so you know, you know,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I'm not saying I was depressed, but I was in
- 40:12Speaker 1: a way, um confused about when I went out in public,
- 40:16Speaker 1: how to I interact properly? And and then I read
- 40:18Speaker 1: your stories. I'm assuming you're based in California, and California
- 40:22Speaker 1: is like the COVID capital of the world right now,
- 40:25Speaker 1: you know, with the with the recent surge and productions
- 40:27Speaker 1: being shut down and things like that. How do you
- 40:31Speaker 1: like you said, you know, taking vitamins and watching what
- 40:33Speaker 1: you eat, but you still living that lifestyle. Is the
- 40:36Speaker 1: media over extending the story or you or you can
- 40:39Speaker 1: live uncomfortable you you move out comfortably in l A
- 40:43Speaker 1: um no, I'm as soon as you tell I don't
- 40:46Speaker 1: like being too close to people anyway. I like my Space.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I had funny I went to the grocery store and
- 40:52Speaker 1: I had this shirt on that said back up you
- 40:54Speaker 1: can read this. You too close And somebody was like,
- 40:56Speaker 1: where'd you get that shirt, and I was like, I've
- 40:58Speaker 1: had this churf about five years, just had nothing to
- 41:00Speaker 1: do with the pandemic. I like the you know, I
- 41:05Speaker 1: like a little distance. I like personal space, and I
- 41:07Speaker 1: know a lot of people don't understand that. Also, UM,
- 41:10Speaker 1: I do a bye bye rules. And I do think
- 41:12Speaker 1: that safety is very important. UM if if someone needs
- 41:15Speaker 1: me to marry, wear a mask. If we think that
- 41:17Speaker 1: masks are protecting us in some way, of course I'm
- 41:19Speaker 1: gonna do what I need to do. UM. I have
- 41:22Speaker 1: UM older relatives, I have young children. UM, I believe in,
- 41:27Speaker 1: you know, making sure that we're not spreading this thing
- 41:29Speaker 1: even further. I think it's kind of crazy that people
- 41:31Speaker 1: are still, UM, moving just anyway that they want to,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and UM, not thinking about others. Um. Sometimes you gotta
- 41:39Speaker 1: you gotta do what you gotta do. But if you
- 41:40Speaker 1: just don't want to sit in the house, Because I
- 41:43Speaker 1: really feel like this time really UM. I was talking
- 41:46Speaker 1: to my mom about it this morning, how it forced
- 41:49Speaker 1: a lot of us to slow down and focus on
- 41:51Speaker 1: things that we weren't really focusing on, and um, this
- 41:55Speaker 1: was a time to do that. And UM we all
- 41:57Speaker 1: went through different emotions of how to do it. But
- 41:59Speaker 1: a lot of people, you know, don't want to work
- 42:01Speaker 1: on themselves, so they don't want to sit at home
- 42:03Speaker 1: with themselves. It's kind to figure out, Okay, well what
- 42:06Speaker 1: can I do to better me? You know, they like, no,
- 42:09Speaker 1: I want to do this and I want to do that,
- 42:10Speaker 1: having tantrums and stuff. Um, but I really took the
- 42:14Speaker 1: time to work on me and things that I need
- 42:17Speaker 1: to get in order in my life, um mentally, physically, mentally,
- 42:21Speaker 1: physically everywhere, you know, every aspect and just focus on that.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But no, we're not. We're not knew moving like normal.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Coming from his household, we were like, what excuse me?
- 42:33Speaker 1: Drop it on right there, thank you? Or even where
- 42:37Speaker 1: you're doing the show, I'm assuming you you take the
- 42:40Speaker 1: pilot coming out of COVID taping a series. How is
- 42:44Speaker 1: this set? You know, because you still gotta be funny,
- 42:46Speaker 1: You still gotta be comfortable with everybody around. It is
- 42:49Speaker 1: a comedy and so you know, I know my background
- 42:52Speaker 1: on thing. You do do do a table read with
- 42:55Speaker 1: every script? Do they do a table and they do
- 42:56Speaker 1: it via zoom or do it do it live with
- 42:58Speaker 1: your table read? Well, now we shot the pilot during
- 43:01Speaker 1: the pandemic and we're still shooting the series right now. Um,
- 43:05Speaker 1: they have all these extra rules, everything that's put in place.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I basically get hair and makeup done and have to
- 43:10Speaker 1: put a mask and a shield back on my face.
- 43:13Speaker 1: So it's constant touch ups. Um. But for a table
- 43:15Speaker 1: reads right now, we do zoom table reads. UM. There's
- 43:18Speaker 1: a lot of producers. There's a lot of writers that
- 43:20Speaker 1: we haven't even met yet in person. Um, they've just
- 43:24Speaker 1: been watching us on the cameras and UM, it's it's weird. Um.
- 43:28Speaker 1: But of course the only time that we're able to
- 43:30Speaker 1: be around each other is when we're shooting, and when
- 43:32Speaker 1: we're rehearsing, and you would it's weird sometimes because we'll
- 43:36Speaker 1: we'll be next to you. We'll they'll be like, no,
- 43:37Speaker 1: you guys need to be closer together for the shot,
- 43:39Speaker 1: and we're like, oh I can, I can be close
- 43:42Speaker 1: to the Okay, I can Okay. And then um, with
- 43:45Speaker 1: us actors, if you if you do, if you have
- 43:48Speaker 1: to be closer, you have to kiss or you have
- 43:49Speaker 1: to hug. Um, you're extra tested that week. UM. I've
- 43:53Speaker 1: had days where I've been um, I've had to do
- 43:55Speaker 1: three tests in one day. Um, just to make sure
- 43:57Speaker 1: that we keep us safe and our crew safe. And um, yeah,
- 44:02Speaker 1: so it's it's been weird because you're kind of trying
- 44:04Speaker 1: to develop these characters when you can't really relax. So um,
- 44:10Speaker 1: that's why a lot of us were a little anxious
- 44:11Speaker 1: with the show coming on, because we're like, how did
- 44:14Speaker 1: this happen? Like, I hope everything went great because everything's
- 44:17Speaker 1: moving kind of crazy on set, but I'm happy with that.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I've watched it last night and I enjoyed itself. Yeah,
- 44:23Speaker 1: I enjoyed it. And you know, like I said, now,
- 44:26Speaker 1: are you the tallest person on the show? Now, I
- 44:31Speaker 1: am a very um, you know, short lady. Uh, and
- 44:36Speaker 1: usually I am the shortest, but um, I think Miam
- 44:39Speaker 1: and I are around them around the same height and
- 44:42Speaker 1: Leslie shorter than I am, um, but kills on, so
- 44:47Speaker 1: it looks like I'm way taller than them when I'm not.
- 44:51Speaker 1: When you carry your newfound height, well okay, because because
- 44:56Speaker 1: because you know, I've seen the pilot's very entertained and
- 45:00Speaker 1: and you use such a natural Kyla and in this
- 45:04Speaker 1: this new opportunity to you to bo television in the
- 45:07Speaker 1: sitcom on Fox Network? What what tell us everybody about
- 45:10Speaker 1: your character with your name Randy. The serious is called
- 45:13Speaker 1: called Me Cad. If you have not seen it, comes
- 45:15Speaker 1: with every Thursday night on Fox, please tell us about
- 45:18Speaker 1: We'll call Me. Cat is a show based on a
- 45:21Speaker 1: show from the UK called Miranda. My character's name on
- 45:25Speaker 1: this show is Randy and she is the barista in
- 45:29Speaker 1: Cat Cat Cafe who is young, vibrant, tells it like
- 45:33Speaker 1: it is, tells you even if you don't want to
- 45:35Speaker 1: hear it, She's gonna let you know. Um, but she's
- 45:37Speaker 1: the life of every party and um yeah. It's a
- 45:41Speaker 1: show about a woman, a cat played by Myambiolic, who
- 45:45Speaker 1: is thirty nine, unmarried, doesn't have any kids, and finally
- 45:49Speaker 1: something happened in her life where she was just like,
- 45:52Speaker 1: I need to make a change and I don't want
- 45:54Speaker 1: to work as a math professor. This is not fulfilling
- 45:57Speaker 1: for me. And she just dropped everything that everybody he
- 46:00Speaker 1: said that she needs to be doing and decided to
- 46:02Speaker 1: her dream. And so now you guys get to watch
- 46:05Speaker 1: her live her dream along with two crazy sidekicks who
- 46:08Speaker 1: work in the shop with her. And and we have
- 46:11Speaker 1: more characters at our at our bar next door. Middle
- 46:13Speaker 1: c played by Julian Gan and Seyenne Jackson and we're
- 46:17Speaker 1: just we're having fun. It's a lot of fun. Okay.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I assume as a series go along, we'll learn more
- 46:22Speaker 1: about your characters. Right now, I'm seeing you as a
- 46:25Speaker 1: very beautiful, very opinionated not really into cats, which you
- 46:33Speaker 1: work in a which is which is hilarious. A woman
- 46:37Speaker 1: you like cats, but she's working in a cat cafe.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Uh that you know, Randy gotta make her money. She
- 46:43Speaker 1: gotta figure it up. I'm not running from it. I'm
- 46:46Speaker 1: just letting everybody know how crazy this character is. And
- 46:49Speaker 1: let's talk about my favorite man. He's a he's a
- 46:52Speaker 1: star on social media, Leslie Jordan. He's about to be
- 46:56Speaker 1: about Hi. He's taller than you. Dunk on tattoo, can't dunt.
- 47:03Speaker 1: That's showed you now, Leslie is hilarious. I remember going
- 47:11Speaker 1: into the writer's room and they said, we cast Phil's character. Um,
- 47:16Speaker 1: he's amazing. You have to look at his Instagram. It's
- 47:18Speaker 1: the cutest, funniest thing ever. And I said, let me see,
- 47:21Speaker 1: and they showed me one thing and I was like,
- 47:23Speaker 1: oh my goodnes see hilarious. I have to follow him.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Literally two weeks later is when he went viral, like
- 47:28Speaker 1: he became everybody's you know, go to during the pandemic.
- 47:33Speaker 1: And when I tell you, this man is so sweet
- 47:36Speaker 1: and so hilarious, like you never know what's gonna come
- 47:39Speaker 1: out of his mouth, Like what he gives you guys
- 47:41Speaker 1: on Instagram that is his every day. He is amazing.
- 47:45Speaker 1: He really is amazing. And so let me just tell
- 47:47Speaker 1: you what she's talking about. I think he went from
- 47:49Speaker 1: like a half a million Instagram follows to like five million.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I think he was less than that. I think he was.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I think he was even lower than half of Yeah,
- 48:00Speaker 1: because I know it's a real low number. I didn't
- 48:02Speaker 1: want to like go but low what it could have been,
- 48:04Speaker 1: but this is an amazing low number. And if you
- 48:07Speaker 1: go to this Instagram account, he dances. He let's give
- 48:11Speaker 1: a little background here. He does a lot of voice
- 48:13Speaker 1: over work and which we're gonna get to in a minute,
- 48:15Speaker 1: because your animated reboot on Disney Plus because and so
- 48:19Speaker 1: a lot of people don't know him, but they've heard him,
- 48:22Speaker 1: and so to see him kind of playing out these
- 48:25Speaker 1: little character playoffs and stuff on TikTok and all these
- 48:28Speaker 1: different platforms. He's made for social media, and he's fun
- 48:32Speaker 1: and he's an older guy that's very hip, very topical,
- 48:36Speaker 1: very uh, you know, everybody find it. Compared to somebody
- 48:39Speaker 1: like that, I would say Dick Van Dyke type, because
- 48:42Speaker 1: he doesn't act his age and he's very relatable and
- 48:45Speaker 1: you have to be able at all. He is a
- 48:49Speaker 1: big old kid. He eats all the props on the set.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I'm like, you're not, we need that for the next take.
- 48:56Speaker 1: And he's like very is. He's been in this game
- 49:02Speaker 1: for so long and acting for so long, and I
- 49:04Speaker 1: think it's amazing that something like Instagram has now shown
- 49:07Speaker 1: the world who this man really is. And he is
- 49:11Speaker 1: absolutely hilarious. Like I I like half the stuff that
- 49:14Speaker 1: comes out of his mouth. I don't even know how
- 49:16Speaker 1: he's on Fox because he's just like anything that comes
- 49:19Speaker 1: to his branding, it's just out. It's just and I'm like,
- 49:22Speaker 1: let's say that. But he like, he's the sweetest and
- 49:27Speaker 1: he has so many great things coming his way because
- 49:30Speaker 1: of because of Instagram, and then and then seeing the
- 49:33Speaker 1: things that he does and the joy that he brings
- 49:35Speaker 1: to everyone who follows him, it's like that's what we
- 49:38Speaker 1: all needed, you know. So he just he exploded at
- 49:41Speaker 1: the right time we needed him. He helped through He
- 49:44Speaker 1: helped so many people through this. Here's the fun part
- 49:46Speaker 1: about your show, because you know we all you know Hollywood.
- 49:50Speaker 1: You know, you get a show, your audition and they
- 49:53Speaker 1: don't get a call back, and then you get a
- 49:54Speaker 1: show where the star of the show comes from all
- 49:58Speaker 1: and incredibly hit a hit series called The Big Bang Theory.
- 50:02Speaker 1: One of the executive producers is from The Big Bang Theory.
- 50:06Speaker 1: And now you get to be a part of a
- 50:07Speaker 1: show on Fox Television. Tell us about that emotional you
- 50:11Speaker 1: got it in the relationship that you built on the
- 50:14Speaker 1: show with your leading lady who was Emmy nominated from
- 50:18Speaker 1: The Big Bang Theory. What's crazy is that, Um, this
- 50:22Speaker 1: project came to me, UM from the creative the show
- 50:25Speaker 1: who's also producing, Darlene Hunt. I worked with her previously,
- 50:29Speaker 1: and UM, She's like, I need you to come in,
- 50:31Speaker 1: I need you to test for this, and UM I
- 50:33Speaker 1: heard that. You know, Miam was a part of it,
- 50:35Speaker 1: and Jim Parsons was a part of it, and UM,
- 50:38Speaker 1: just to even get the opportunity to be in the
- 50:40Speaker 1: same room as people that you know you can learn from,
- 50:43Speaker 1: UM was an amazing This thought of the possibility of
- 50:46Speaker 1: being able to do that and then to actually be
- 50:50Speaker 1: able to become a part of the show and work
- 50:52Speaker 1: with these people that, when I tell you, did not
- 50:56Speaker 1: disappoint in any type of way. Miam is like literally
- 51:01Speaker 1: does everything, and she's so sweet and gracious and a
- 51:06Speaker 1: human being, and to to you know, I've been in
- 51:09Speaker 1: this business for a very long time and I've worked
- 51:12Speaker 1: so much and there's not a lot of times where
- 51:15Speaker 1: I come across people where I'm like, Okay, I have
- 51:17Speaker 1: to watch everything this person is doing because she is
- 51:21Speaker 1: doing like she's doing everything and she's doing it great.
- 51:25Speaker 1: So you know, I just I feel so blessed to
- 51:28Speaker 1: be a part of a situation with people who have
- 51:31Speaker 1: worked so successfully for so long but are also amazing
- 51:35Speaker 1: human beings that show that, you know, you don't have
- 51:38Speaker 1: to be crazy to make things work. I mean, you
- 51:41Speaker 1: gotta be a little crazy, but but the good crazy,
- 51:45Speaker 1: well we know you're crazy. Penny Proud, Okay, Penny Proud.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Did you think it would come back? Um? I didn't.
- 51:55Speaker 1: I didn't think a lot of people for you, you did.
- 52:04Speaker 1: I My voice hasn't changed at all. Literally loved Somebody's
- 52:10Speaker 1: like deal, kids, listen to you, because when you're talking,
- 52:12Speaker 1: you don't sound like nobody's mama. You sound like a
- 52:15Speaker 1: little card to character. Like, first of all, yes, they
- 52:18Speaker 1: do listen to me anyway. No, but I never thought that. Um,
- 52:23Speaker 1: I mean, you have been hearing different things here and there,
- 52:25Speaker 1: and so many things they're getting rebooted and remade, and
- 52:29Speaker 1: so of course I didn't, you know, think that it
- 52:31Speaker 1: was I heard talks, but I didn't think it would
- 52:34Speaker 1: be a possibility. And um, then I got the call
- 52:38Speaker 1: from Ralph Farquar and Bruce Smith and they basically said
- 52:40Speaker 1: they wanted to give it a go, and I'm like, hey,
- 52:43Speaker 1: like anybody else playing Penny, so y'all we better figured
- 52:47Speaker 1: this out. And and then you know, brought everybody along
- 52:52Speaker 1: for the ride. And it's been tough because, um, we
- 52:54Speaker 1: actually started recording right before the right when the pandemic
- 52:58Speaker 1: was happening, and so we had to start recording everything
- 53:01Speaker 1: at home, and it's difficult to record at home when
- 53:05Speaker 1: you have kids that are not in school and they
- 53:07Speaker 1: a loud like a mama. So we're figuring this out
- 53:10Speaker 1: though we're making it happen, checks checks, I'm like, maybe
- 53:16Speaker 1: this is for a few minutes they're trying to get
- 53:19Speaker 1: a part in the show. That's what I know what
- 53:21Speaker 1: they're trying to do. Now, let's talk about this this
- 53:23Speaker 1: this character. You know when you talk about recording at home,
- 53:27Speaker 1: you know this is not picking up your phone or
- 53:28Speaker 1: your cell phone recording at the home. They send you
- 53:31Speaker 1: some special equipment. How did that work out? Oh? Yes,
- 53:34Speaker 1: we had to get the right mics, um, the right
- 53:38Speaker 1: uh everything that needed to go into a computer. And
- 53:41Speaker 1: I literally, when I tell you this computer thing, before
- 53:44Speaker 1: this pandemic, I knew how to ask some right email
- 53:48Speaker 1: and uh, I knew how to write message, but as
- 53:52Speaker 1: far as anything else, no, So I've learned so much. Um,
- 53:56Speaker 1: I had to learn different tools and how to record
- 53:59Speaker 1: myself finn and even having I don't even know the
- 54:02Speaker 1: name of the things that they sent, Like I had
- 54:04Speaker 1: a bounce thing that I had to put behind the
- 54:07Speaker 1: microphone and I had to put I went to visit
- 54:11Speaker 1: my grandmother, had to put pillows on top of it
- 54:14Speaker 1: to make sure that the sound was the sound quality
- 54:16Speaker 1: was good. Like, they sent us so much stuff, and
- 54:19Speaker 1: I'm like, luckily my man is uh the recording artist,
- 54:23Speaker 1: so he knows how to cook up all that stuff.
- 54:25Speaker 1: And I was like, Okay, I don't have to um
- 54:28Speaker 1: cry today. Uh So luckily I had the help that
- 54:32Speaker 1: I needed. But yeah, they sent us everything. You know,
- 54:35Speaker 1: you have to learn sometimes, and so the thing about
- 54:38Speaker 1: it is that when you get it, to get an opportunity. So,
- 54:41Speaker 1: you know, I looked at the this is Disney Plus
- 54:43Speaker 1: where I just so soul that Jamie Fox, Uh animazing,
- 54:47Speaker 1: which is really great. Is I've seen it twice. It's
- 54:49Speaker 1: really fun. And then I hear about this announcement, uh,
- 54:53Speaker 1: you know, the return. I just call it the return
- 54:54Speaker 1: of Penny Proud. You know family, Louder and Prouder. So
- 54:59Speaker 1: when I hit and Prouder, I hear volume. I hear
- 55:02Speaker 1: that they're gonna be all over the placement. We know
- 55:05Speaker 1: your Disney Plus, so you're not gonna get extreme. What
- 55:07Speaker 1: does Louder and Proud of me? But to me Louder
- 55:12Speaker 1: and Prouder. I feel like when I was recording The
- 55:14Speaker 1: Proud Family back in the day, I had no idea
- 55:16Speaker 1: what I was a party. I was fourteen years old,
- 55:19Speaker 1: and I didn't realize the things that we were talking
- 55:21Speaker 1: about in the messages that we were giving young kids
- 55:24Speaker 1: watching um watching the cartoon and I feel like louder
- 55:28Speaker 1: and prouder now it's like we've it's like Proud Family
- 55:31Speaker 1: two point oh. We basically upgraded the conversations that are
- 55:34Speaker 1: gonna be happening. And I'm surprised to some of the
- 55:37Speaker 1: things that you know, Disney Pluses is allowing us to do.
- 55:40Speaker 1: But you know, we have to do those type of
- 55:42Speaker 1: things if we want to maintain the authenticity of being
- 55:46Speaker 1: the Proud Family. We have to come through with the messages.
- 55:49Speaker 1: We have to come through with the knowledge. We have
- 55:51Speaker 1: to come through with the real things that need to
- 55:53Speaker 1: be said and leads to be taught and learned about,
- 55:56Speaker 1: especially in our community. So I just feel like there's
- 55:59Speaker 1: a lot of storylines that people are gonna be like, what,
- 56:04Speaker 1: But you know that it's it's teach them young, teaching young.
- 56:08Speaker 1: Thinking about your career because I've been fortunate to watch
- 56:10Speaker 1: your career, you know, I've been fortunate to be on
- 56:13Speaker 1: set with you and watch the professionalism, watch you watch
- 56:16Speaker 1: how you at a young age and and and and
- 56:19Speaker 1: as a young teenager and become a young adult. That's longevity.
- 56:22Speaker 1: And you know, you have people who want to get
- 56:24Speaker 1: into business, can you give them any advice or any
- 56:26Speaker 1: thoughts to the process of what this business can offer
- 56:29Speaker 1: you offer you for opportunity, but what you have to
- 56:32Speaker 1: give or sacrifice to be successful in this business. Uh,
- 56:36Speaker 1: this business is a very difficult one. UM. I always
- 56:40Speaker 1: tell people, please only get involved if it's something that
- 56:43Speaker 1: you have loved for that you love, um, fame and
- 56:48Speaker 1: all that popular stuff, and that doesn't really it's too
- 56:52Speaker 1: much going on to just want that. Um. And then
- 56:55Speaker 1: also it's it's practice, it's studying it, taking it seriously,
- 57:02Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's a very difficult. It's like it's
- 57:06Speaker 1: mentally it can be completely draining. And I know a
- 57:09Speaker 1: lot of people look at me and they're like, oh,
- 57:11Speaker 1: you're you know you you turned out so well and
- 57:13Speaker 1: and I said, you know, that's because I was able
- 57:15Speaker 1: to recognize when things were too much for me or
- 57:18Speaker 1: when I need to just change how I looked at things. Mentally, like,
- 57:22Speaker 1: in this business, you're gonna be told no a million times,
- 57:25Speaker 1: and it's gonna make you question yourself. It's gonna make
- 57:27Speaker 1: you rethink everything that you know about you, and you
- 57:31Speaker 1: have to get stuck in your head that hey, I'm
- 57:33Speaker 1: gonna keep getting told no. But that doesn't mean that
- 57:36Speaker 1: I'm not good, that doesn't mean that I'm not worth it.
- 57:38Speaker 1: It just means that that one thing wasn't meant for me.
- 57:40Speaker 1: And now I'm on the hunt for the next thing.
- 57:42Speaker 1: And uh, I know someone asked me recently, like what
- 57:45Speaker 1: did you audition for that you didn't get? And it
- 57:46Speaker 1: took me like ten minutes to think about it because
- 57:49Speaker 1: I was like, honestly, after all, bition for something. If
- 57:51Speaker 1: I haven't heard back, Oh no, it's out of it's
- 57:53Speaker 1: it's it's gone, and I'm onto the next thing. I
- 57:56Speaker 1: can't dwell on the past, you know. So if you
- 57:59Speaker 1: want to get into a business like this, you just
- 58:00Speaker 1: gotta make sure here is straight because a lot of
- 58:04Speaker 1: people don't understand that. You know, we're human beings, we're
- 58:07Speaker 1: not machines, and we go through the same things that
- 58:09Speaker 1: everybody else goes through. And if you want to do it,
- 58:12Speaker 1: just keep hustling and fighting and people gonna tell you can't,
- 58:15Speaker 1: just like anything else, you gotta prove them wrong. Well you, well,
- 58:18Speaker 1: let me tell you something. I'm proud of you, Penny proud, okay,
- 58:23Speaker 1: And I've seen I've seen the journey and I know
- 58:26Speaker 1: you know, there's so many there's so many casualties out there,
- 58:28Speaker 1: and you know what I'm talking about. And uh, and
- 58:30Speaker 1: it's sad by that process because it's really can be
- 58:33Speaker 1: famous on the series and then all of a sudden,
- 58:36Speaker 1: you're constantly chasing that that series or that moment or
- 58:39Speaker 1: that opportunity, and like you said, you have to actually
- 58:41Speaker 1: walk away. You have to shut down and don't let
- 58:44Speaker 1: these negatives win. And if you let the negatives win,
- 58:47Speaker 1: I think that's when that's when you don't have but
- 58:49Speaker 1: you fall away. Had a balanced life and I always
- 58:51Speaker 1: tell people on the show that it's important to have
- 58:53Speaker 1: a balanced life, that you are not consumed by what
- 58:56Speaker 1: you do but who you are. And you've always had that,
- 58:59Speaker 1: as Paul your mantra that I've always um, I've always
- 59:09Speaker 1: wanted to have it all and UM, I remember being
- 59:13Speaker 1: younger and people like, don't have kids yet, and I'm like,
- 59:15Speaker 1: first of all, what I want to do? Um, But
- 59:19Speaker 1: I just feel like you have to have balance. I
- 59:22Speaker 1: understand that what I do for a living is my
- 59:25Speaker 1: job and I love it and I'm very fortunate to
- 59:28Speaker 1: be able to do something that I love. Um, it
- 59:31Speaker 1: is not my complete entire life. Um, I am a
- 59:35Speaker 1: regular person with an extraordinary job. And um, it's difficult,
- 59:40Speaker 1: especially in a business like this, because you, like you said,
- 59:42Speaker 1: you have those moments where you have the TV shows
- 59:45Speaker 1: and you're on top and the next thing you know,
- 59:47Speaker 1: people are looking at you like you've never worked before,
- 59:50Speaker 1: and you're like, wait, what, Like I've been hustling and
- 59:54Speaker 1: I've been doing X, Y and Z, and what do
- 59:56Speaker 1: you mean? And you kind of just have to, like
- 59:59Speaker 1: I said, it's all It's all about your mental and
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: and understanding. Like I tell my kids all the time,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: I'm like, mommy has always wanted to be a mommy
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: and mommy has always want to be an actress. So
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: mommy has to juggle both. If mommy's tired, so what
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: mommy gotta figure out when they're napping. You know, like
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: just continue to, you know, fight for your dreams and
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: what you want to do, but also recognize that, you know,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: one thing in your life is not everything. You know.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: I love you from a standpoint of who you are,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: the brand you presented yourself, your beautiful, beautiful, beautiful wife.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: She starts in the new series on Fox Every Thursday
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: called The Cat. But see, I'm always loved because my
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: boy ran far card. That's my boy. Yea over there,
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: the Penny frowd, the return say you know, you know
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Ralph coming with it, you know ramp and they're playing
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: the games. We're coming back, We're coming back hard again.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Continue to grow, grow on social media, continue to be
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: the brand went to Thank you for taking the time
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: to come on Money Making Conversations. And I enjoyed this series.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: And if you happen to turn on the show and
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: she's on the screen with Leslie Jodan, No, she has
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: not grown. Leslie is just the shortest man on national TV.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: And I probably have on fields. I'll tad you got
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: it going on. You know, I know you're man, you
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: got all these kids going on. Okay, but you got
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: it going on, sister girl, what the heels and everything?
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: And okay, by we win? Okay, thank you for having me.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: I appreciate I always bring people on the show that
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I sticky notes, email alerts, a string around your finger.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: They're just not big enough. So here's a big reminder
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: from the California Lottery. Tomorrow's making millions jack potties over

- 1:02:07Speaker 1: with arms outstretched to the sky. They see treasure and pebbles.

- 1:02:35Speaker 1: is coming out the front door strong with a double
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: armed kid carry. Looks like dad has the bags. Daughter
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: is bringing up the rear. Oh but the diaper bag
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere. Oh but mom
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: has just nailed the perfect car seat buckle for the toddler.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: And now the eldest daughter, who looks to be about
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: nine or ten, has secured herself in the booster seat.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: Dad SIPs the bad clothes and they're off. But looks
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: like Mom doesn't realize her coffee cup is still on

- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I told us you were talented when I met. That
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: was about four years ago. I said you were talented,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: and I said, are You're gonna stay in Jackson? She's
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: and she loved the community. So tell us what happened
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: since I last saw you. Because I was down there
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: doing my perfect bake tour, telling everybody I would have
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: a baking contest. I was doing that in the Winner
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: one in the Jackson area, and that's how we met. Yes. Yes,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: yes I still have my perfect bank. A matter of fact,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: you gifted me with one. Yes, it has been some years,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: ra Sean, and you want me right you you told
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: me then. I remember the words that we the conversation
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: we had right here in this studio. You talked about
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: me being talented and the one thing you wanted to
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: know that you're not telling everybody. You wanted to know
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: why am I still in Jock? Yes, what's your question
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: to me? That was your question? If that was your
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: number one who I said? I kept telling me like,
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: you don't want to leave, You don't want to leave.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: He kept telling me that. I do remember that. Then.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: A lot of happened since then, and since then, I've
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: done some television. Since then, I've been doing television, a
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: lot of hosting. Of course, I still love, absolutely love
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: my station. I love what I do, and I do
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: believe one of the reasons that God had me stay
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: in this opportunity right here. We get to show people
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Jackson like I've never seen before. What is amazing to
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: teach you you. This is the first time I'm introduced
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: into this relationship with you. You look fantabulous looks. You know,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: I love that. I love the colors. You know you
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: you got a little you got that that swag to
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you when you walk out in the streets. Now, tell
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: us about your background like I do know about you know, look,
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: look Tamber, tell us about you. Hello. Can you hear me? Yes,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I can hear you. Can you hear me? Absolutely? Don't
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: go country on me. Now. I know in Jackson, Mississippi,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: they got WiFi out do me. We got big time
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: celebrity to come on this show. Lot. Don't be going
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: country on me. I'm not going country on you. Thank
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: you so much for having us. Thank you so much.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: It's an eye to be on your show. I really
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: appreciate it. Everything Timber actually said so wonderful things about you.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: So I did do a little research, right, So, my girl,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Timber did say great things about you. So again, it's
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: so great, great introduction. As you said, I am the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: founder of an organization called National Women's Branch Organization, and
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: it is for female entrepreneurs. We provide them with resources
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: to help them start businesses, whether it be um to
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: educate them with financial literacy to help them start businesses.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: We also empower them. We focus most more so on
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: mindset change, because we all know that everything starts in
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: the mind first, and that's the only way you'll be
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: able to see anything productive in your life. So that's
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: what we do. I have my plan wants care to
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: women because I personally knew that in order to make
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: anything and anybody great, I first had to become the change, right,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: So I created that platform for women. So yes, yes,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: my country self. Okay, you own owning girl. I pro
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: used to Texas. Don't let these close fool you. I
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: like and now here's a great thing about this whole
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: cover and says you guys in Mississippi, we've seen the
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: racial arrest this country went under, and we saw a
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: tremendous change in the state of Mississippi when the removal
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: of the flag. You know, from a media standpoint, you
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: out front and I know you get a lot of
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: calls and a lot of reactions. TAMPERA, talk to me
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: about that change that you've seen with the removal the flag.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: I know it's not major, some stack some situations, but
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: it still was a major change from a symbolism standpoint.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Absolutely had radio personalities from across the country to reach
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: out to me, some people who didn't even realize that
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: we still had that flag with that and they didn't
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: even realize it. And so it was literally history. It
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: was a history that we can say that we actually
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: were a part of here in Jackson because we've watched
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: people march to take that black down, We've watched protests
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: to take it down, we brought protests to keep it up,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: and it's it's been ongoing. It's not something that just happened.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: It's been an ongoing fight. And to finally see that
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: fight and watch how it ends played right in front
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: of us, it's a part of history. And I'm actually
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: happy to say that I was on air when it happened. Wow. Well,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: you know, when you're talking about black empowerment, Letitia and
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: you we're gonna get to the revitalization of fair Street
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: and the Man and but you know, we're talking about
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: the South, and the Mississippi has always had a terrible
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: racist history. You know in the South, you know, you know,
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: you can go to Alabama, you know, Georgia, all assoft
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: have their stories. The Mississippi is always stood out when
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: you're talking about black women in poweroy what you're talking
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: about black girl magic. Talk to us about some of
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: the obstacles and then what you're trying to achieve when
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: you're talking about breaking through that financial literacy, sealing and
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: their glass ceiling. Well, as you said, Um, coming from
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: the South and trying to uplift the black community, we
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: all know it's history. So of course I'll face several obstacles,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: obstacles from partnerships, meaning that banks in the community, trying
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: to get my ladies a partnership to help them establish
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: credit with some of our banks, UM. And also that's
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: something that we need more of here in the South.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: We need I mean all over black black owned UM banks,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: you know. So I've definitely faced that trying to get
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: partners UM to partner with my organization to help us.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: You know, Luckily and properly, we have been able to
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: secure a few partners that can help entrepreneurs, are black
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: entrepreneurs UM take our loans to start establishing credit. And
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: that is so important to learn financial literacy because coming up,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: that's something that I wasn't taught, you know. And again, Um,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: everything that I do is passion driven or it's from
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: experiences that I do not want anyone else to encounter.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: So that's basically what this organization and it's entirety is.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: It is to help girls, women who look exactly like me,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: to have the opportunity to succeed. So that's why this
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: platform was created. Well when did it start? And you
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: were you inspired by somebody? M hmm. Well actually it
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: started as women Brunch Mississippi and we started that in
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: two thousand and seventeen. I attended a brunch in Atlanta, Georgia,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: and I was just so amazed by this brunch that
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I attended. Well it wasn't even a brunch, it was
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: an event. It was like a networking event, and uh,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: I was so amazed how women were networking together. They
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: were like, you know, how can I pour into you?
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: How can you pour into me? And I was like, wow,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: this is something that Mississippi needs. So originally it started
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: as a networking event. I hosted on my first event
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: in two thousand and seventeen, mingling over Mimosa's business branch
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: to allow business owners to come in a network. Well,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: we set up for like sixty sixty sixty two people
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: and we had over a hundred a hundred people to attend,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: and I was like Oh my goodness. That that was
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: like a supplied demand. That was something that was needed
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: in a confirmation for me to do more of them.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: So I created Women Brunched Mississippi, and that Women Branch
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Mississippi was to empower the women here in the state.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Well as the organization starts to like take its own life,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: thank you Jesus, it starts to take its own life.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I had women reaching out in Alabama, I had women
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: reaching out in Atlanta, in Texas. How can I be
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: a part of this organization? So I was like, you
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: know what, let me get outside my conference zone and
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: I stepped out to National Women's Brunch Organization. Well, there's
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: the great thing about it is that you're trying to
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: create change. Now, when I when I go back to Tambera,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: I gotta tell you some timber Mississippi. Monica Barnes text me,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: you know Mrs Monica bar And she's one of the
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: executive producers of Steve Harvey Morning Show. I gave her
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: a break and gave her opportunity to get on the show.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: And she text me, uh, Tambra is gonna do your show,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: and she wants to know if you remember her. I
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: was so mad that I got that text, like I'm
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: gonna forget you were at a long conversations, were in
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: the studio for several hours, and I remember everything I
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: told you. I said, why are you still in Jackson?
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: And and that made an impression on me. And when
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: I when I think that, I think about what you
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: were becoming, and you was evolving not only as a
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: as an individual, but as a person. And this is
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: this whole. This is gonna be a big transition, ladies,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: because now you know, people gonna know you, sometimes for
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: the right reason, for the wrong reasons. Know. And you
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: have the show called The Relationship Our on radio. Okay,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: they say it's controvertial. Uh, please tell us why, And
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: it's fine controversy, but but tell us why. Well, you
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: know what, I've been doing that show for years and
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: it's just a part of something that's inside the Midday
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: that we do once a week, and it has been controversy.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: I think they why they call it controversy. It is
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: because we open the phone lines to the to the audience.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: It's it's open to the audience. The audience comes up
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: with the questions, they spend in what they want to
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: talk about and literally people give their opinions on what's
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: going on. We all know that relationships pretty much rule
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: this entire world. Okay, we know that. So we talked
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: about not only personal relationships and professional relationships, but all
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: types of relationships, even if you're dealing with family, and
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: a lot of times it can be very controversial just
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: by the things that people say. I've had people to
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: call and say the strangest things. So it does and
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: we're in the middle of the day, we're talking at
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: one of the flocks, this night conversation. This is this
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: conversation you're literally at listening to. That's what you say
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: when they say controversy. I've had people to call me
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: and say, look, do you know who asked that question?
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Because if that's like she's talking about my husband. I
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: had those type of questions. But it's all fun, and
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: it talked about I know, right, and talked about relationships
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: because relationships are so important and it's just opened opinions
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: up for everyone to get involved. Well, you know, you
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: know Steven Harvey and I you know, when he comes
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: to relationship, act like a lady, to think like a man.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: The movies, so I know, the Strawberry Letter that he
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: does at the top of eight o'clock. Been doing that
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: since two thousands, so I know the power of a relationship.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: But you're doing it for a whole hour though. We
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: just did a letter, so that whole hour concept. Would
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: you take several phone calls or is it man? They
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: called to man and the women rashan like men and women. Yes,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: we open it up for everyone to call. And I
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: hear from my ladies and I hear from my guys
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: point of view, and sometimes the ladies am more interested
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: in a guy's point of view because you know, when
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: you're over the phone, you give me yourself. You can
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: say exactly what you want to say and how you
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: feel instead of like you thinking somebody's looking at you
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: or trying to judge you. So that's why I think
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: when people say its controverts, because they're seeing how they
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: really feel, because they don't have to be seen. It's
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: not zoom down on the TV show with the Steve
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Harvey type of Oprah is on the phone and they
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: can get away with it. Now you phone, they can
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: get away with whatever they say. They're real feelings about
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: how they feel. On that on the topic that we're
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: actually talking about like the conversations and the stories that
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: I have heard something don't actually have part of my
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: book some of the years that the conversations I've heard,
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: some of the things will blow your mind. And there's
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: no no judgment. Don't nobody's judging you because we're just
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: listening to your real opinion. Right. So, Letitia, you have
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: heard her show? Have you heard our show? Absolutely? Absolutely?
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: You cannot be in Jackson, Mississippi and had absolutely both
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: of y'all funny to me like Jackson, Mississippi, New York.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: I would tell you'all something you know it's jack Why
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: have it? You know how we met her brunch? This
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: is why I love La Titia Latsha reached out to
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: me for her brunch and we've been just like this
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: the relationship group ever. So y'all got a TV relationship,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: y'all a real relationship, Yes see, I can. I can
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: tie these manufactured relationship. You know your TV You're ready
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: in Stall. She a community Stall. Y'all make a great
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: television show. So you guys know each other. Oh absolutely absolutely,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: That's why that's why this show here very collective, is
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: so so amazing because we're all connected. It's not anything
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: like you said manufactory, Like this is this is our
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: real life. It's reality. And I think that that's what
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: people they're gonna love about it. I think that they're
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: going to love the realness. I think not only that
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: they're gonna love the ladies, and they're gonna love Mississippi.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: You know, everybody is curious about Mississippi and this group
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: of women. We all bring something out of miss out
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: of us. That's that's so Mississippi, and it's so different,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: and it's so unique, and we're all, you know, we're
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: all friends. Now, this is about five ladies. Five ladies.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I'm meeting two of you. Guys. I'm Lutitia, I mean
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: you Tambrod. You also have Latrish Rogers, Dr and Twine Louds,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: and then you have h A. Maria we Hamilton Jam.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: The personality of Dr Antoinette, what's the question, don't mesity pity? Yes,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: what's Antoine's personality? Um? So, if I had to say
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: Antoine's personality, of course she's a dentist. So um, I
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: think that you know she's just cool l you know,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: cool lay back. I mean, I really don't know, like
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: the personality. If I had to say like I could
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: easily you say, what's timas personality? But believe midday diva
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: well sweet you know, with um with you know. But
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: if I had to say Antoinea, she's that. She's just
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: very you know, low key chilled, you know. She she's
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: not as out I'm gonna say it's glad like you're
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: gonna hear me in Tambla. You gonna hear she's a
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: dinner So she can't be too out there hasn't of
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: decorma professionalism now, so tim me, Timmy just Tamber how
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: a boy? Latrice Rogers? Can you championship about her? Camber Ladre?
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: And definitely I actually met Latrice through radio. Yes, that's
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: actually like she's been a client of radio where I've
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: actually voiced her commercials and that's how we met is
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: through radio. She's a client of our station. I've actually
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: done some things with her and that's how we met.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: And I think about Latresea's personality, I think really business minded,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: like she was all about her business when I met her,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: and she wanted to grow her business. So I literally
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: watched her business grow. I really had. So it's a
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: great thing just to watch the growth when it starts
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: right here and you watch it just grow. That is beautiful,
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: like you cannot help but absolutely respect it and love
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: it well. The final member is Maria. Marie Hamilton's what
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: does the professional and tell me something about it? Oh
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: my goodness. Ree is definitely a powerhouse in the community.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: M Marie is her business partner. Sc actually s and I.
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: We're from the same hometown and that's how I met Marie.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: Marie has been at my brunches, attending my brunches and
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: supported my brunches ever since the very first brunch that
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: I had, so our relationship has gone from business to
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: personal nowity and she is just all business minded like
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: they operate all of these businesses. She's always looking forward
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: to the next big thing. Marie is that she's very outspoken,
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: but she's very lovable too, So Marie. This is five women.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: It's called the Bell Collective is set in Jackson, Mississippi.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: There's are dynamic women representing the finest of Mississippi's entrepreneurship,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: determined to break through the ceiling glass ceiling of social consciousness.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: The interesting thing about these shows is that when it
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: airs January fifteen, I believe it's the premier date. Do
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: you expect you know, this is fame, you know, because
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: all you know, people know you. You guys in the
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: community to know you. But it's like I always tell people, like,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: you know, my name is Roshan, And when people started
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: saying my name correctly all time, it really tripped me
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: out because I can always tell people who didn't know
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: me when they didn't say it right. Not everybody's gonna
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: know how to say Letitia's right way. That's just how
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: I said. And I and my friends called me Latitia.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: But that's a good point. When I hear Latitia high Latitia,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: I know that someone on my father's side or my
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: arm is upset at me, and she's cool with me.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: It's hey, Titia, and she's upset Ltitia. But Tam, but
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: you know, you're on the radio show and since you
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: are famous. You know, I'm not saying Latitia isn't famous,
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: but you know in the radio you're in the popular
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: show Relationship our show, So you used to that level.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: But this is a visual level you're about to get to.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Are you ready for that? Let me tell you actually,
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: I I did have the opportunity to do some guest
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: hosting before and that was on another network. And then
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: I was actually doing some other hosting in guest corresponding
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: stuff Traditionation, which was on another network. So I'm really gutten.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: I think I had my feet wet a lot, to
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: be honest, because once you come across that screen, a
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: lot of things are coming at you. So I've had
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: my feet wet quite a few times now. But I
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: definitely think this is because I'm actually opening up my
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: personal life. I'm not just talking entertainment news. I'm not
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: just hosting anything, which I'm used to doing that one
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: television that I'm actually opening my personal life. So this
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: is very different for me. Okay, well you you open
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: it up, tell us about your personal life. What is
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: your personal life? Brought it up? You don't people? Oh
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: but this is what I said. When I say personal life,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: I mean I am still you too. I have always
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: having myself. It's far a having a professional life that
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: was super super public, which I absolutely love because I'm
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: a people prison. I love people. I love social life,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: I love all of that. I love people. I do
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: have a passion for people. But I managed to keep
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: my private life in personal life kind of private just
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: because I feel like, does anybody in my personal life.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: They didn't sign up for that. They didn't sign it
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: up for any of what I have going on. But
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: on this show, you actually do get a chance. You
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: see the conversations that I might have with my parents
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: that are very personal to me that you've never seen before.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: So when I say personal life for Sean, I'm not
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: just talking about like personal boyfriend. But although you might
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: see a little bit of that in dating and stuff like,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: that's what I want to set as well. I want
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: to see the man that man, what about the man?
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: Tell me your man talking about her parents? You don't
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: see your parent people. I do have some things going
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: on in my personal life. Well you know that I've
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: done that. I probably need the handle. So you see
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: all of that on you'll collected. Teacher, teacher, what about you?
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Now she brought up this. I wouldn't even gonna go there.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: But when you have somebody open the pan down on box.
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Not I did it to my house, That's what I mean.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Tam here you did you just kept and you said,
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: oh my personal life, where teacher, teacher, teacher, your turn
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: turn my personal of course. I mean you guys are
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: gonna see my personal in its entirety. Um, of course
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: I am married. I'm married to Gwyn Glenn and I
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: we've been together for twenty three years. We've been married
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: for seventeen years. We have a son, Joshua, who was
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: five years. Oh, you're gonna see the ends and out
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: of me trying to really focus on my business move
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: from housewife under Glenn to boss wife. So what I
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: love about it? And and and even the producers, everyone
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: who worked on this show. They made us so comfortable
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: being totally transparent that I think I was maybe to
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: the transparent. So what you really? Um? What you get?
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: So you who watch Bill Collective, I'm sure the world
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: will be like I know tsha. Yeah, Well well good.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: I'm just gonna ask a. Of course you're Bill Collective.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: Where did that title come from? Well, the producer, UM,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: Carlos King. Of course, we all know Carlos King, the
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: King of Reality, UM, his company Kingdom Rain. Um. Carlos
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: mentioned on our preview that the name came from. Of course,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: we're in the South, We're known for being els, and
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: it's a it's a collective, um, five different women. So
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: I guessed him and his brower mind he put together
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Bell Collective Cool before we go, I want to talk
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: about I mentioned it in their opening about the black
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: iconic black neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi on Farres Street. Tell
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: us a little bit about that is there's an important
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: need to revitalize that street in that community. M it
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: is so important, um And as you are seeing on
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: the show, was an inspiration inspired by my grandfather, his
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: face with a light of each time he talks about
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Farres Street and how that was a black mecca. There
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: was a safe place for black people, how there were
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: grocery stores and and things and anything that a black
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: person needs, just even the fellowship with one another, you
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: can find it on Farres Street. So I started to
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: do my research on Faris Street myself, and oh my god,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: and it was just so amazing. I felt like I
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: have to make this happen. I have to be a
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: part of something here because it's history and it's something
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: that our ancestors would be proud about. So I feel
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: like too when I share Fis with Timber. Before Timber
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: and I've had this conversation that it's so important for
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: us to work together to try and revitalize this area,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: not only for us, but for the generations after us.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: So it's my baby, it's my heart. I'm putting everything
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: in it, and I'm praying and believing everything's gonna manifest
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: the way. The great thing about it is that it's
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: on TV now, so donations will come in and all
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: that good stuff. But you know, Tamber, I got I gotta,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: I gotta wrap it up with Chamber. Now that's my girl.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: You know she did to I spent time with on
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: the radio. I didn't believe she still being Jackson, Misissippi.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: Not she on TV in Jackson, Mississippi. You know. So
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: all I know is that you proved me wrong. You
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: are going to be a star. I told you that
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: when I first met you. You know, you would have
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: fantastic friend here on my show the T Shaw you
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Or T Shaw? You know what,
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: what's the future for your temper? Because you're you're fantastic personality,
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: You're single. I'm gonna look, I'm gonna see a man
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: or you on TV. But theyin't the real man. That's
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: a man doing the TV show. So they're gonna be
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: other men do come your way, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: They will come in and try to scoop scool cool cool.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: You're gonna become a relationship out you, and so I
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: just want to talk to your shot you. You know me,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: I still had that same you had that same drive
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: and that same passion that we talked about. I still

- 1:30:09Speaker 1: has not changed. Everything is still in the same and
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: I'm just in a different feat in a different driving feet,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: but my passion's still there. I absolutely love what I do,

- 1:31:14Speaker 1: You know when I was down there. I joke now,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: but there's nothing negative that I have to say about Jackson,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: miss I'm just excited that Carlos King. He did it

- 1:31:38Speaker 1: what I love the show, and I love what Carlos

- 1:36:09Speaker 1: on the fast track for a two D location role
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: like goal. Please working the money making conversation Dr Frederick Jacobs. Yes, sir,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: are you think at that smile? Love it? Man? Look
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: at that. That's why that's why I go on video.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: This smile cannot be seen in audio. How you doing,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: my friend, Chris. First of all, let me tell you how.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: I'm absolutely excited. And it has been such a long
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: time in each other. That's why I had on my
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: show Wonder and I have to tell the whole world
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: because this is my place age of my testimony. Me
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: and I always has gotten it amazing. But you, sir,
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: you change my lives and bless my lives because I
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: made this commitment to you all radio about what I
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: was gonna do, and you told me about focus. You
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: told me even about the things that you entro with
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: just now, about listening, you know, being transparent, only your lane,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: only your world, be yourself, be authentic, and go out
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: to everything that you're skilled and you're problems and passionate about.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: And I did that my brain, and that's why I'm
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: standing here today and I'm excited about it. Well you
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: should be excited. First of all, I'm proud of you
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: because our journey goes way back, you know, to the
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: catering days, you know, when you had the one title
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: of chef. Tell everybody about that moment. And because it's
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: a problem moment for me because of the fact that
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: that's what I do. Man, I meet people and I
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: encourage them to seek their greatness and allowed them to
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: understand that hard work tied to that passion can can
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: have this conversation we have today about it. Two hundred
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: restaurants rollout. Talk about that first initial contact, Well, I
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: mean I first mission contact. First of all, you you
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: followed me literally I was catering at the time for
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: the select that cared for speaking Harvey when I when
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: I kind of do the first and just the fact
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: that you know, you did something for me that I
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: feel like many people, uh strong energy don't do. And
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: I think the endemic really should have put and parties
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: because out of all things that you was busy doing,
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: you to the second and you stopped in the middle
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: of everything. And I'm talking about weird in arena and
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: everything pushing the moving, and you stopped and you saw
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: something in me and you had a conversation with me,
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: and you care enough uh to seed in my life,
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: uh and to interfere uh and to evaluate into inspirement
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: and it literally my first account of with you was
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: absolutely what I needed. It said, listen, stop dreaming, get up,
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: get pushing, get moving, because you'd do something great. So
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: my first account of man is a it's been an
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: amazing well you know, well, thank you. The beauty of
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: who you are man is that, Uh, you wanted to
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: know how to be great, how to be successful? How
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: did the food taste? Did it meet the standards? You
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: know a lot of people they don't want to hear
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: any potential negative statement of any particular criticism, and there
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: was nothing negative. But you're willing to hear that, and
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: that's why you're in the position now. So in the
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: middle of COVID, nobody saw COVID coming. You know, I
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: had all kind of I had different plans for twenty
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: they got kicked to the curve. Now you're in the
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: restaurant business and California talk to us about demand that
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: the drama that came over your dream. Well, I'm gonna
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: tell you something, you know what, I'm really proud to say.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: And I'm thinking about this not only working to principles
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: that I knew to do in the skills of a
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: meeting people like yourself. You know, I look at scalability.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: You know, when I looked in the market place, even
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: you know, circumvent in the condemn it, I looked in
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: the industry and I saw that. I saw that in
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: all these years, no one had never emerged as a leader,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: no one had never scaled what I called scaled the pinch.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: And so I got in my lane. I I became
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: very focused, and I I did what you said. I didn't.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: I didn't try to be the Joans I've been in
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: my pocket and I started working it. And you know,
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: Mr Pan give it. We have grown about a hundred
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: forty for sin and we did that by finding a
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: place in the marketplace, working a skill set, stand focused.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: But people get stuck. And what we're doing is we're
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: about in a vehicle for people who in a miss
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: of this pandemic. I think they's situated for artist, see
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: you no way. I've been dreaming, I've been working for others.
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: I've been doing all types of things, but I've done
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: nothing for myself. I've got moved forward in my dreams
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: and my passion. And so the people that I ain't
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: come today is I helped them get unstuck. I helped
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: them move forward in their lives, much like you did
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: to me. So I'm really paying hommage and thank you
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: by working in my deal of saying thank you for
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: taking time for me as I take time now. Well,
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: I'm taking time again to promote your brain because you're
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: so credible to me. So let's talk about the before
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: we get to the menu. Let's talk about the Celebrity
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Soul Food story. Because the menu is UH is diverse
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: meat lovers, vegetarian, and vegans, which lets me know why
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: you've been successful because that vegan has been a big
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: push during the pandemic. Vegetarian menus have been a big
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: push doing the pandemic because we all know doing COVID
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: their team African America. They're not saying it publicly, but
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: African American and people have six or five were overly
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: affected by and still lives being overtly affected by the pandemic.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: That's why Trump was still holding rallies because he knew
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: his fan base was at African Americans. So with that
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: being said, you launched the Celebrity Soul Food store. Tell
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: us how that dream came about and how we got
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: to today. Before we get into the menu. Well, you know,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: for me, Um, I think I wanted to make sure
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: that soul Food actually did this rightful place of history
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: and and really get paid homage. Truth. I'm gonna be
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: honest with you, and it's just true transparency as well.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: Ce Oh it's been it's been serviced so poorly, you know.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: I think God for all those who have preceded me,
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: the mom and pops. I think it's amazing. Our grandmothers
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: and great moand mothers have done amazing. But that is
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: why I'm here. I don't I don't stand. I'm not
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: creating history. I'm standing on the back of history. But
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: I'm saying we have skill sets, were innovated, we are authentic,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: but it's time to spell it. It's time to make
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: sure that soul food go up there with all the
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: other great puisine. You know, we were everywhere no one
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: ever want to give us credit. And then the other
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: side to it is then we put those type of
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: places in the some of the forest locations in the communities.
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: Soulful deserves to be presented in the element that it
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: really needs to be, which is greating and soulful. For me,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: it's much more served than just herbs and spice and soulful.
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: For me, it's like I remember being at my grandmother's
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: house and I was small and I was sleeping, and
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: I went to thinking because it was renny outside and
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: I couldn't play, and all of a sudden, it's a roma. Uh.
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: It just wroke me up, and I wanted to kitchen
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: my mom and Grandma was in there and I was
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: tasting this pound kicking. It was amazing, and all of
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: a sudden, shot that the sun came back down. That's
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: so people all around the world got stories like that,
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: all kind of culture that they remember Mama, they remember grandmother,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: the fiends, where they wore and what they was doing
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: when it was tasting amazing. Just so it's the stories
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: that's been ready to be lost, and I'm gonna make
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: sure as the new manager, so that's not happened. We
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: belong in palm locations. We belong, and an invading if
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: wait to present the mission. So they are they all
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: can know how great really so is? Well, you know
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: it's really great here you talk with passion, talking with
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: the plan. Because let me just talk about meat. When
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: I go into a soul food restaurant. You know is
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: that you know I love I love a vegan plate
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: because some some restaurants you're going to go and go
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: fro vegetables, play with corn bread and so I get
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: the black eyed peas over white rice, or I get
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: the okra and tomatoes. Man, come on, now starting starting
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: to get hongry. Nothing the yam, which is always pay
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: a little bit extra for the for the yams. You
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. It's been a little extra for
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: that yam and the sweet corn. So but there's there's
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: there's explained to meat. There is Southern food. They're so food.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: Now what is the difference? Always the same thing just
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: been renamed as Southern food. Okay, first of all, it's
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: absolutely doctor saved everything and every a sod absolutely to
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: the Southern. Tell us, doctor, doctor, talk to us. Nobody
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: has been told wrong. You gotta understand my my my
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: mother and my my grandmother particularly uh is African American
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: and also of Indi Uner City. And with that being said,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: you gotta understand that when we when when when African
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: Americans came to what I call the New world over here,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: is that being in a vegetarian and key told was
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: very familiar to them. You gotta understand salty and the
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: preservatives was added later to the quisine. So when you're
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: talking about being a vegetarian or what we call authentic
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: dishes of the traditionalists, it's really not professional. You know.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: I think the things that people are doing now is
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: they're either trying to become one or the other. Either
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: they're all the way, if I can be honest, completely unhealthy,
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: or they're going to be in a vegetarian. That's not
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: what we're doing. We're innovative when we're training. What we're
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: doing is we have not even a healthy option. We
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: are healthy all the way through me. We use premium items,
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: we get, we present premium this uh in vegan better
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: to you and I in authentic ways that all can
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: party in the entire meeting. So when we start talking
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: about this, you're you're really gonna be shocked with it's
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: really a second tonight. What I want to know is
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: how can something be so great and so rememberable but
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: it got a cute you at the same time night.
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: We are no pig nope words all absolutely many people
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: trying not to lose the flavor were trained. You know
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: who's no favors. This is an amazing rounde from just
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: what you ain't gotta have high blood pressure Mond and
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: that's what that's the I guess the the moniker is
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: tied to so food. You know that that heavy salt,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: like I said, overseason, which leads the high cholesterol, which
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: leads the high blood pressure. But like I said, when
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I saw your menu, it you know, we got to
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: meet lovers, like you said, but you have vegetarian and vegan.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: That's a different style of cooking. Talk about your background
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: as a chef which really gave you not only just
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: not stamping your name as the CEO of this franchise,
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: but you understand the menu and how to put these
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: menus together. Let's go and give you credit for that.
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Let's talk about that. Well, you know one of the
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: things I did, and this is why I can really
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: pay homage to UH to some great people. It um.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: You know when I when I started on this journey,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: not only did I train under some of the best
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: selfs in the country, but I spent five years traveling
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: throughout the United States, all the way from Alabama, others
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: an Annam, Mississippi, Florida, talking some grandmothers and great grandmothers
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: and sitting down with them, learning first of all, before
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: I put my hand to these dishes, what's the authenticity
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: of the dish, what's the instrument of the dish? How
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: did this all come about? Then what I did is
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: I spake because this is where it gets tight. But
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: this is why I want to be honest and be
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: over with people, because it's hard work. And when I
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: met you, you didn't tell me it would be easy.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: You told me put in the work, invest in yourself.
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: So what I did is I spent over one point
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: six million dollars going into a kitchen, scaling that pitchure.
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: Because you gotta remember back in the day, all they
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: told us was, hey, I put love in a little
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: bit of this, A little bit of that you can't
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: scale that. I've speed with business. See, So what I
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: get is I spend the resources I invested in myself.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: I invested in this project, and we went into the
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: kitchen and we got the nutritional facts. Then when I
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: get this out of lebaty relationships, so that we can
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: get a whole of the premium items, the premium ores,
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: the premium flowers, the things that are necessary that take
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: you to the next level, and that's what we present
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: to our franchisees. Until this world. We are not Grandma's food.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: We are Grandma two points. Oh we Grandma on steroids.
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: Best believe that way. We'll just we did authenticity of
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: revision that we elevated and we innovated so that you
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: know what it can be presented with all the other
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: great culinary disease. But this was differently. This was excited me.
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: I've seen taco restaurants explain Mexican restaurants to expand Hamburger
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: Chicken in my lifetime. I've seen Popeye's grow, I've seen
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Chick fil A explode in my lifetime. You know what
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: I'm saying. I've seen golden carrals go across this country,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: you know, and so now, but why now, why why
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: hasn't that happened? That was it? Was it? The technology
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: was that the principle, like you said earlier in the conversation,
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: A lot of times quality the restaurant like that are
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: buried deep in the black neighborhoods. You know, they don't
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: they don't have the sense of technology saying that we're
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: gonna do door dads, We're gonna do uber we're gonna
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: have the technology when you walk up there, you've got
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: the iPads and all these things. What did you see?
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: What research did you say? That they set out and
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: you say, man, we can do this. This is time
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: for this is our time. This is the celebrity soul
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: food time. Well, you know, one of the things that
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: I saw is and then it's going back to and uh,
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: kudos to you man. Is what I saw is you
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: know what, Um, I stopped thinking too small, but I
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: set on this thing. I I just set out to
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: open my restaurant. You know what I mean? This has
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: to be a lot of changing and it has to
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: be inspired for all their room at the table. So
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: the first thing that I did is, you know, wait, um,
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: first of all, I build relationships with an amazing developer
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: because the location, we see it matters, but it really
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: does when you have to buy from location. The other
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: things that you mentioned is technology and people are so
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: behind the millennials and those that's coming behind them are
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: on the absolute their phone. They won't break quality, and
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: they wanted fast. They want to be on their phone.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: They want to move with technology. And so we added
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: that to our restaurant, Dinney. We went as far as
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: even implementing robots inside of our our restaurants that assist
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: the servers, which is the second enough providing that great
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: technological experience, but more slow than that, it goes back
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: to the operator themselves. You know, many people are open
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: their restaurants without building brain quality. And that's something that
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: you talk a lot about on your show, is that
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: bring me and the boards are building that value. And
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: so they launched uh what I call a moment pop
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: and crulse for them, But I believe those days are over.
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: You have to build brand. You have to build systems,
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: which mean said, you can be in this particul a situation.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: You could be great at cooking, but you'd be poorly
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: at business. You have to have administrative ability. And then
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: I've seen celebrities open restaurants which they got a great name,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: but they have no systems, no uh and no UM,
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: no concept of knowing shelf work in them of what happened,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: so they don't last. And so many people, you know,
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: but when we deal with our franchisees, we better them
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: all around the country, but we take them to our
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: processes because you must have us you know, set and
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: you must be able to follow the systems that are
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: in place to make sure that everything stay in compliance,
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: that no matter where you go out in the world,
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: that you always be that consistency of that great That
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: is so important to thank you, Doc when you talk
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: about this, because, like I said, you know, you see
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: wing stops out there, you see the fund records out there,
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: you see you see all these these Hamburgers places that
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: are popping up left and right. Now. Talk about that
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: whole franchise franchise process, because it was really important that
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: you're not just taking that money, you're trained in them
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: and doctoring them into the way this restaurant business should
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: be run. The quality means that plate would be the
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: same in San Francisco as it will be in Houston, Texas,
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: as it will be in Chicago. That's where people fail.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Like I said, I remember, Sylvia was the bomb in
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: New York City. Hall of then it went out to
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: d C. Expand to Atlanta. Maybe that was it, you know,
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: and that's where the business conversation comes in. So that's
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: why I was excited to get you on the show.
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: I want to be a part of putting the word
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: out about your franchising capabilities. Let's talk about that whole
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: thing that you're talking about, nurturing that business nurturing that
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: you're talking about in the whole the whole celebrity soul
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: food franchise e model. Well, you know what if it
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: is the first thing I did is that nobody can
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: do anything right about themselves. So I went and I
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: found the best of the best and the most elite
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: leaders in their space in this industry, and I put
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: them on my team. So you're talking about I have
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: a CSO, I have a CFO, I have an operations person,
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: I have a corporate shell. I put a team together
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: that when we bring in and we bet these franchisees
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: from around the countries, we're not just making money deals.
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: We invest in people, which means that before we get
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: to the liquidity and what you do and do not
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: have because we can assist you and help you find
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: your project. Its first, it's about you. First of all,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: are you too burned out to presume your pursue your
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: own dream? Are you still ready to work hard and
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: to get it in? And it secondly is pain your
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: fallows systems because sometimes people are so selfish and so
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: self centered they want to do it their own way,
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: and the reality of it is, if they could have
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: did it their own way, they would have did it
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: by now. But if you're going to get in a
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: vehicle that's bigger than yourself and we are part of
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: making history, you have to adhere to systems. And that's
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: where my team is great about because we train, we
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: invest in our franchisees, but only in the operators that
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: are willing to adhere to those boundaries. Because the reality
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: is this, It goes back to the moment pops. You know,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: you can go in on Monday and let's say Grandma's
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: there and the food is a maybe. But when Grandma
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: passes away, oftentimes what you find is that the kids
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: mess it all up. The restaurant was out of business.
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: You know why. No systems in place, and nobody could
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: ever scale Grandma. No one could never package Roma. And
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: that take investing, and that takes time, and that's what
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: we've done and that's what takes us to the next level.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: So when we invite people here and you know, we've
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: got calls and applications, we probably get a thousand a day. Really,
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: all of the people all around the world from to
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: buy all the way to some of your biggest theme
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: parks or one of the individuals. But ships, you're gonna
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: cruise ships too. It's about the passion and the love
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: of the cuisine and wanting to present us in a
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: way to say you no way, thank God for Grandma
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: and what it is and Grandma and him and all
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: that little stuff. And that's really being homage to it
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: and do it right. And we're doing it the right way. Well,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: you know you said it. You know, theme parks, airports,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: you know, this is franchising, this is what This is
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: the mindset that you're under being able to to do
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: a two hundred store national roll out. What is the
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: mindset of that? Dr Jacobs, Well, what is is that,
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: you know, the mindset and is first of all, uh
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: unity and diversification, you know, inclusion. And that's what people
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: messed up is because they want to hold it hostage.
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: Soul food is not a baby. It's grown, it's graduated college.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: It's right, but you're holding it constitution and you didn't
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: you don't want to share it with the world, and
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: that's why they put it in some of those the
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: neighborhoods that they do. But this belongs to all people.
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: That's a story that go with this. But guess what
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: from all cultures can participate in it. So we crossed over.
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: It's for African Americans for all those other culches who
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: were having to say, you know what, it's many things
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: we may not agree about, but there's but one thing
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: we can't agree about is that we can come to
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: this table, bring some amazing bread, and we definitely give
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: the paper for an amazing God. And that's how I'm
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: rocket about, friend, Is that how you how you have
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: to feed the scalability? How do you have to feed
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: its corporately? How do you have to feek is outside
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: of oneself? You gotta think a big picture and that
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: right there. You cannot have a small mind, nor can
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: you go into a situation where you have no division side. Okay, cool,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: Now we got the business out the way. Now let's
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: get to that menu. Come on, Dr Jacob, that menu, brother. Okay,
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: let's start in my little favorite lane. The desserts are
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: the desserts gonna be consistent with every restaurant? And what
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: are some of the desserts that we look forward to?
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: First of all, all the way across the board California,
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: or you walk in Florida. You're walk in New Mexico,
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: You're gonna find that same dessert, the same item. Just amazing.
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: That's how we're rocking it. What our greatest desserts that
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: we haven't the menu, But again we innobate if we
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: have our our red velvet buntcake. But what we do
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: is we infuse it with toffee and then we are
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: topic with twenty folk carry gold sprinkles, uh, and an
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: infusion of sauce with a homemade cream cheese icing. Uh.
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: That man and you know the batter they said, want
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: to make me stop your mom and know me wait
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: a mom off and say Mom, I love you, but
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: they get you. You know what I'm saying. Like I said,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I see things I love
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: about you. Dr Jacob to us that dessert you kind
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: of like stood up, slid to the front of the chair.
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: Look here, let me tell you about this this this
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: this butt red every buntcake, little toffee, little cream cheese
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: on top. Slap your mom. Now, let's slide over to
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: one of my favorites. Because I don't eat meat as
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: much as I used to, I still eat me a good,
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: too good meat now, but I love veggian. Somehow veggians
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: have become part of my brand. Now I would throw down.
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: So so you had vegetarians and he had vegans. Explain
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: the difference in that and how would it be presented
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: on your menus? Okay? So stick for instance, Um, you
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: know the vegan dynamic first of all, one of the
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: key items that need people who watch juditionalists don't know about.
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: It's like an amazing product called jack fruit. What we
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: do is with with jake fruit is that we you know,
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: we jerk it. Everybody know what that I mean. You
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: know what I mean. We create a drug with it.
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: But what we do is we don't just plate it.
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: We don't. We don't. We don't just put it on there.
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: We don't just a top of with veggie things that nature.
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: What we do is we have what's called a stuff
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: pineapple bowl where we carve out the pineapple, we fileted
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: carbon out molsted all uh. We were serving over a
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: parlow or a roller rice uh. And then we infuse
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: that a topping with the jack dripped fruit. Uh. And
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: we create our homemades. We're called bals barbecue sauce or
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: a sauce of trolls. I mean, we do mumbo sauce
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: and so many others and we uh top that item
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: or what have you, and you can have a vegan item,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: but it's it's second to none. I mean we're not
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: you're not in on just normal plating. Everything is in
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: a vative. You know you have that of course. And
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: then if I vegetarians, I mean, uh, we have so
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: many vegetable items. Uh. You know you can have your
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: collar greens. But this is where it gets really in
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: deep is that you don't need pork. You really don't.
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: All you want to do is to make sure you
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: have the flavor. So the way we we prep and
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: prepare our greens, you can still have an amazing uh
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: green experience without all the fat, without all the meat
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: product in it, so that you can still enjoy yourself. Uh.
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: And then my friend, you then you're taking into the
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: next level when it comes to being in a vegetarian
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: and also traditions. I mean quite naturally, we have the oxtails,
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: but these uxtails made its initial between the South and
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: our Caribbean brothers and sisters in the Caribbeans, enridging that gap.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: So you're talking about creating a roasting and raised oxtails
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: with a Demi glaze that a second to none. That
- 1:58:17Speaker 1: you yourself can be at your office right now on
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: the show and you can keep that same suit on,
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: grab your friend and go out to dinner and have
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: an amazing time and come right back into another show
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: because you don't feel heavy, you don't feel the argic,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: and that you just had one of Grandma two point
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: old best meals in the country. That's what I love
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: about it. This is what say. First of all, see
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: it's the funny part of I've Got there's a video
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: because first of all, when we start talking about dessert,
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: he slid to the front of his check. Okay, then
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: you start talking about the oxtail, he went to the side.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: He kint like, turned to the side. You know, an
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: oxtail with that Demi glazes. You shine when you go
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: out for luck, you come back out. You wouldn't be
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: heavy about seem loving this whole interview. And this is
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: what I'm gonna want you to do. I will need
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: some video because I'm gonna do some simulcast screen simul
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: screens with you so people can show what you're talking about.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: Because you are so descriptive they actually need to see
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: a photo, so we cant people fired up about everything
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: that you're doing. But the last part about it that
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: really was key to me was that you want to
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: cater to a diverse crowd. What exactly does that mean? Well,
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: you know, one of the things that I mean is,
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: first of all, sometimes people think when they're saying diverse,
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: let me first correct this they're thinking is about ethnicity.
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: But the first thing of it is it's different walks
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: of life. People have health issues now, people of different Asian,
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: different dietaries. Why have you guess what we can here
- 1:59:38Speaker 1: and meet those feeds? Because before you get the vegan,
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: vegetarian or authenticiy, what about the people who has to
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: be gluten free? You know, there's so many elements to
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: people's lives. But guess what, you can still come to
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: our restaurant. Now, who can say that in this world
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: that you can go to a soulful restaurant and need
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: gluten free or vegan, vegetarian, or you can be traditions
- 1:59:56Speaker 1: all in one place. The second thing, though, it is
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: when it comes to talk common locations and how we
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: choose we put our restaurants and prime areas that a
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: diverse market can come to. Meaning it's not secluded to
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: one side of the tracks, it's not put in one
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: area for one type of people. This is about everybody.
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: I don't care all the ways from wooky the same
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: you become a restaurant, but watch this. When you come in,
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: you're gonna know you're in a celebrities. You're gonna know
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: that we have invested and we're saying, if you've come
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: to spend your hard working money, we're gonna make sure
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: that we provide time service to our people because people
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: deserve that. And that's what's listening in this world. Before
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: we get to the food, where's the service going. Where
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: is the customer service people deserve that. People are hurting,
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: people are spending their last My god, if somebody coming
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: to your establishment to spend money to to invest back
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: into you service your community. And that's what we about
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: all of our franchise e s and us as a
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: corporate office. We don't just take from our communities. We
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: go in and we change our community. We become a
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: catalyst of change there, meaning we helped the sports teams,
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: we helped our first responsese, we helped those who are disenfranchise.
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: So I'm excited about our philanthropy work that we're doing
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: as well. So you know, for me, I get real
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: passionate about it is because it's about time. I mean, this, this,
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: this right here is past do. I'm so thankful that
- 2:01:16Speaker 1: I'm young enough and then I have enough strengthened me.
- 2:01:19Speaker 1: I'm faithful to God enough that I'm still here to say,
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna help leave this charge and
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: I'm gonna do all that I can't. This show is
