- 2:13Speaker 1: Making Conversation the man who taught me how to fish again?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Running great? How are you doing, Rochelle? And I'm told
- 2:23Speaker 1: a lot of to be on the show man, it
- 2:25Speaker 1: is awesome to be here. Well, you know, it's really good.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Let's just the whole concept of fishing. I you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I come from the Inner City and the Houston, Texas
- 2:33Speaker 1: fifth Ward and my dad used to take me cane fishing.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Cane that's what you do. Cane pole and had a
- 2:39Speaker 1: little cork and drop that bad boy in there, and
- 2:42Speaker 1: you move a little bit and watch that bad, bad
- 2:44Speaker 1: cork sunk. You know, you had a fish and you
- 2:46Speaker 1: can pull it real fast and you throw that bad
- 2:49Speaker 1: boy on the bank. I mean, I mean that that's
- 2:51Speaker 1: a cane pole fishing right there. That's big time. Lord.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I did the perch. I did the small man small
- 2:58Speaker 1: uh bad. That's a large mouth bath And I'm horrible
- 3:02Speaker 1: Calfish born. And you know, you don't know what you
- 3:08Speaker 1: don't know until you actually started fishing, you with other people.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And that's the premise behind our show is that's where
- 3:14Speaker 1: I learned my uh prolating fishing from my great grandmother.
- 3:19Speaker 1: What's the interesting about it, Rashaanda, is she was a
- 3:22Speaker 1: fisherwoman that was at a whole different level. Now. I
- 3:24Speaker 1: fished my dad initially, and he just wanted to spend
- 3:27Speaker 1: time with his boys, and he really wasn't an incredible
- 3:29Speaker 1: fisher and didn't have a passion. But she had the passion.
- 3:33Speaker 1: But what was interesting is I learned so much about
- 3:36Speaker 1: her life and our family history just by spending quality
- 3:40Speaker 1: time with her, which nobody wanted to do because the
- 3:44Speaker 1: the off fishing was boring. So I've come back with
- 3:46Speaker 1: all these history an adults all the time said hey,
- 3:48Speaker 1: did you know this about Grandfall's song? So and Paul
- 3:51Speaker 1: Paul and Da Da Da da, and they were like, well,
- 3:53Speaker 1: you learn all that uh fishing with granny and that's
- 3:55Speaker 1: what we call it. And so hin the fishing story
- 3:59Speaker 1: was born with my great grandmother. And she's smiling right
- 4:02Speaker 1: now that that's that's really interesting because you know it
- 4:06Speaker 1: was when I was out there, because you came by
- 4:08Speaker 1: my house in Atlanta and we sat down with man
- 4:11Speaker 1: and and uh and I was a small little pond
- 4:14Speaker 1: lake on my backyard is fully stocked, and you asked me,
- 4:17Speaker 1: he said, how's the fishing. That's the great fish out there.
- 4:21Speaker 1: But I never went out there myself because I'm a
- 4:23Speaker 1: cane pole guy. I got the I got the quip,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and you know that I got the quipment, right. I
- 4:27Speaker 1: looked like and you said, we're just going out there
- 4:30Speaker 1: and see what you could do, and see what you
- 4:39Speaker 1: could do and shout with the fishing with the really
- 4:41Speaker 1: raw you got these cane poles stories, and and when
- 4:46Speaker 1: I went out that, man, the relaxation part of it
- 4:50Speaker 1: was amazing, you know, because I just go down there
- 4:53Speaker 1: and just sit on my rock and watch the waters,
- 4:55Speaker 1: the memos and the frogs and the little the little
- 4:59Speaker 1: bugs how been around on the water, the little ripple
- 5:01Speaker 1: that calms me. That's why I have that property, just
- 5:04Speaker 1: calms me. But the fact that I was just casting
- 5:08Speaker 1: out there, it really took me to a different level
- 5:11Speaker 1: of serenity. I'd like to believe in my mind emotionally
- 5:14Speaker 1: talk about that whole experience and why it is so
- 5:18Speaker 1: so so calm and to fish. Well. The thing is
- 5:21Speaker 1: that most people have never been able to quantify a
- 5:23Speaker 1: lot of physicians and psychologists and therapists try to understand
- 5:28Speaker 1: that there's something special about it. As a matter of fact,
- 5:30Speaker 1: the Veterans Administration has gone to a level to where
- 5:33Speaker 1: they are recognizing it is helpful for veterans with PTSD.
- 5:39Speaker 1: And one of the things that I explained to people is,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and I don't try to get too deep, but I said,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, if you think about it, what is our
- 5:46Speaker 1: body made up of a lot of water. So I
- 5:50Speaker 1: feel like every time that I'm around water, where there's
- 5:53Speaker 1: salt water or fresh water, there's a kindred ship to
- 5:58Speaker 1: where I came from or what I relate to. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: feel like that there is no data officially, and that's
- 6:04Speaker 1: what they're doing, is they're doing their extended study about
- 6:07Speaker 1: it and actually trying to establish a documented reason. But
- 6:11Speaker 1: I feel like, based on my life's experience what I
- 6:13Speaker 1: call shoe leather research, which means my feet on the
- 6:16Speaker 1: street or my feet in the boat, that is the
- 6:18Speaker 1: best UH data in the world, because I feel like
- 6:21Speaker 1: that our body is made up of a lot of water,
- 6:25Speaker 1: and so when you go and you're actually around salt
- 6:27Speaker 1: water or fresh water, there's some type of kindred ship
- 6:30Speaker 1: be close to it. So if something about it, we
- 6:35Speaker 1: still will never probably understand it, even though they do
- 6:38Speaker 1: the studies, and you know what, Rashaan, sometimes some things
- 6:41Speaker 1: just shouldn't be understood. We just know it has a
- 6:44Speaker 1: positive effect on us. And so that's kind of the
- 6:46Speaker 1: way I feel about it, because every time I'm having
- 6:49Speaker 1: a long week, sometimes my wife are even engourage. I
- 6:53Speaker 1: think you need to go vishit right, you know. And
- 6:57Speaker 1: it's it's crazy because of the fact that's a crazy
- 6:59Speaker 1: and the good way because of the fact that you know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I'm looking at this water and I know it relaxes me.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And then I had another gift of being able to
- 7:08Speaker 1: equally relax me, relax me and just keep my mind active,
- 7:11Speaker 1: you know, because that's relaxed. That's what That's what I
- 7:14Speaker 1: learned from you when you came out there and you
- 7:16Speaker 1: you just you just turned me. You gave me another
- 7:18Speaker 1: turn to the process, you know, because you know our brains, man,
- 7:22Speaker 1: it just flows. It just flows. It just flows, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 1: from bills to controversy, to two issues, to parenting, to
- 7:30Speaker 1: two mobiles and jobs and and so out there. It
- 7:34Speaker 1: pushed all that to the to the to the back,
- 7:37Speaker 1: and all I was worried about with that, how far
- 7:39Speaker 1: I can get that that hook out that water, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 1: and getting it back fast enough. And so I didn't
- 7:44Speaker 1: think about nothing else but that that little one to
- 7:47Speaker 1: punch that I was dealing and b when I snagged one,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you saw big. I was smiling when I was then
- 7:53Speaker 1: and then returned into the water you know, and released
- 7:57Speaker 1: it back out. That was that was like a really
- 7:59Speaker 1: three sixty for me as far as the the whole
- 8:02Speaker 1: process of what you're talking about when it comes to
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, the meditation party beings in an environment that
- 8:09Speaker 1: will calm you, and that's what I think that they're saying.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It pushes back all that noise that could be in
- 8:16Speaker 1: your brain. And that's that's that's important. That's important. And
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know what, Rashan that that gets to the show
- 8:23Speaker 1: as well, because when we do the show on the water,
- 8:26Speaker 1: one of the things that people know that when they
- 8:28Speaker 1: wants to show there's something that has never been done
- 8:32Speaker 1: on this particular type of show, especially in the fishing industry,
- 8:38Speaker 1: is there is a release of emotions that occurs. What
- 8:42Speaker 1: I mean by that is we have people that get
- 8:45Speaker 1: extremely emotional, and there's even a reputation. People give me
- 8:48Speaker 1: a hard talking about it. I'm not going to cry
- 8:50Speaker 1: on your show. But it's not something that we script.
- 8:53Speaker 1: There's nothing you can script about it, but something about it.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Your soul relaxed and relieve and all the stresses all
- 9:00Speaker 1: the way. And then it also purges your soul, so
- 9:03Speaker 1: to speak. And at the end of the day, there's
- 9:05Speaker 1: that release of emotion that is natural and organic. Hence
- 9:10Speaker 1: you have a organic show where people are telling their
- 9:13Speaker 1: life stories on the water and that whole connection thing again. Right, Okay,
- 9:19Speaker 1: I'm talking to Ronnie Green. He's just the host of
- 9:22Speaker 1: Official Story With Ronnie Green. I gotta ask a question
- 9:24Speaker 1: to everybody probably asking how does the black man get
- 9:26Speaker 1: in the professional fishing game? How does black man getting
- 9:29Speaker 1: the professional fishing game? Because we know it's a white industry.
- 9:31Speaker 1: How did you do that? And there's some more anglers
- 9:33Speaker 1: as well, who African Americans? Let's talk about you. Yeah,
- 9:38Speaker 1: So how I started when I'm a former officer in
- 9:41Speaker 1: United States Marine Corps SIMPL five and then also after
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Marine Corps, I was also a corporate citizens. What
- 9:49Speaker 1: I would consider you know, I was a sales manager
- 9:52Speaker 1: in the medical device business, Pagemaker's de fibulators, the whole
- 9:55Speaker 1: nine yards. So the clinical aspect, you know. And then
- 9:58Speaker 1: way prior to that, I was also former All American sprinters.
- 10:02Speaker 1: So those life experiences helped me and shape me. But
- 10:06Speaker 1: all along with all those things I've accomplished in life,
- 10:10Speaker 1: my great grandmother helped me to learn that always keeps
- 10:14Speaker 1: us in the back of your pocket. This is your therapy.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So I would go through life and always fish and
- 10:20Speaker 1: do things. And then after my mother passed away and
- 10:23Speaker 1: two thousand seven my kids were old enough to graduate
- 10:26Speaker 1: from high school and did their thing and on the college,
- 10:28Speaker 1: and I said, now it's my time. Uh, and it's
- 10:32Speaker 1: my focus about me. At the end of the day,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I started fishing some tournaments, and it was also therapeutic.
- 10:38Speaker 1: How do you get the tournament? That would you just
- 10:41Speaker 1: anybody can just fishing the tournament or you just pay
- 10:43Speaker 1: a fee? How does that work? Yes, and that's a
- 10:45Speaker 1: great question. And what happens is you pay a fee,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and uh, you can. So it might be an entry
- 10:51Speaker 1: fee of a few thousand dollars and it might be
- 10:54Speaker 1: a hundred eighty anglers. What you want to do is
- 10:57Speaker 1: hone your skills up before you get to that level
- 11:00Speaker 1: of what I did, is I actually fish in a ternament.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I signed up as a co angler first, and what
- 11:05Speaker 1: that is is the person that's on the boat and
- 11:07Speaker 1: you with the stranger, but you're not running the boat.
- 11:10Speaker 1: You're in someone else's boat and you're coing, are competing
- 11:13Speaker 1: against other co anglers. So I was very successful in that.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Then I graduated to the front of the boat. Yeah, okay,
- 11:23Speaker 1: I want did to be good at being a co angler?
- 11:26Speaker 1: What did you have to do as far as catching?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Is the size? Is the amount? Is it a time window?
- 11:32Speaker 1: What is that? That's a great question as well. So
- 11:36Speaker 1: what it is is with at UH eight hour period,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you have to catch the largest five fish you can catch,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and that's the whole objective. And as a co angler
- 11:46Speaker 1: you also have to think and be strategic as well,
- 11:49Speaker 1: because the person in the front of the boat has
- 11:52Speaker 1: first opportunity of a fish that's probably more aggressive to
- 11:55Speaker 1: catch that fish. So you're fishing behind him, you're getting
- 11:59Speaker 1: the leftover. So you've got to have a counterbait that's
- 12:02Speaker 1: gonna be just as good, but may not be the
- 12:04Speaker 1: exact same bait as the primary angler you're fishing with.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And so I was very successful at that. And UH again,
- 12:11Speaker 1: when you go to the stage, you are competing against
- 12:15Speaker 1: other co anglers and so your weight counts against all
- 12:17Speaker 1: the other co englers and uh, I've won a lot
- 12:21Speaker 1: of money and a lot of tournaments and uh doing
- 12:24Speaker 1: that and then moved on to the front of the
- 12:26Speaker 1: boat and that is so exciting. And there is only
- 12:29Speaker 1: just so you know, in the fishing industry, I can
- 12:33Speaker 1: count on my hand for African American people that are
- 12:37Speaker 1: fishing professionally for a living. That's Brian Latimer, Mark Daniels,
- 12:41Speaker 1: Gas Monroe and then myself who was also on TV.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So it is a very difficult sport because the business
- 12:48Speaker 1: model was similar to NASCAR, and so what that means
- 12:51Speaker 1: is you have to have sponsors. And Mercury I saw
- 12:57Speaker 1: a Ranger boats and I saw bass Pro Shops. Absolutely
- 13:01Speaker 1: so Bass Pro Shops is one of the most influential
- 13:05Speaker 1: and the most powerful in the industry. And I am
- 13:07Speaker 1: fortunate enough to be with Bass Pro Shops. Mercury Marine
- 13:11Speaker 1: incredible engine UH company here in America that does a
- 13:16Speaker 1: great job. And what I love about Mercury is they
- 13:19Speaker 1: are one of the most diverse companies that I've ever seen.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Their way far ahead than what I've seen most companies
- 13:26Speaker 1: and and I love that about Mercury and then Gary
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yamamotal custom Bates um, they are incredible as well. So
- 13:34Speaker 1: they've all been supportive and you know, they've been there
- 13:37Speaker 1: with me from day one, and I can appreciate it.
- 13:40Speaker 1: And we wouldn't be able to bring a lot of
- 13:42Speaker 1: good content without them. And uh, and so so how
- 13:45Speaker 1: does one get a sponsor? I'm just going through some
- 13:47Speaker 1: steps here. Just let everybody know because you're such a
- 13:49Speaker 1: unique feel in African American we we all know, like
- 13:53Speaker 1: NASCAR is a white dominated sport and and so that
- 13:56Speaker 1: means I don't know if every environment you go in
- 13:59Speaker 1: is a comfortable fronment. But just talk about your experience
- 14:01Speaker 1: overall in the fishing industry in the beginning and that
- 14:06Speaker 1: so in the beginning, of course, just like anything, when
- 14:09Speaker 1: people think you have a TV show, Uh, people are
- 14:12Speaker 1: just gonna pass out sponsorships because you're on TV. Wrong answer,
- 14:16Speaker 1: That is not the way it works. So what they
- 14:18Speaker 1: do is they will watch you and quite honestly, it's
- 14:21Speaker 1: a high risk and some of them are still trying
- 14:24Speaker 1: to learn, uh, to deal with African American UM because
- 14:29Speaker 1: a lot of them have never been exposed I want
- 14:31Speaker 1: to say a lot, but quite a few, because it's
- 14:33Speaker 1: I've been exposed to African American culture. So you have
- 14:37Speaker 1: what I call a cognitive dissidence of what you see.
- 14:40Speaker 1: You see this polosy African American person who who is
- 14:43Speaker 1: patriotic as well and in the Marine corps um but
- 14:47Speaker 1: yet and still your belief system based on what you've
- 14:49Speaker 1: seen and heard, is not recognizing what you see, and
- 14:52Speaker 1: there is a cognitive dissidents, so you're fighting gets yourself.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So ultimately that leads to sometimes not getting a sponsorship hip.
- 15:00Speaker 1: But the folks that are always progressive in their thinking
- 15:03Speaker 1: in the sense of not that necessarily affiliated with a
- 15:06Speaker 1: political party, but more so just understanding that we all
- 15:10Speaker 1: want to sell more products, they will find a way
- 15:13Speaker 1: to bring on the best in the business that do
- 15:16Speaker 1: what they do. And hence that's how I've been able
- 15:19Speaker 1: to get an opportunity now running. I got Amazon Prime,
- 15:22Speaker 1: so I can so I can see you on Amazon Prime.
- 15:26Speaker 1: All seasons are that the first three seasons, and we
- 15:31Speaker 1: have some more content come in that direction. I probably
- 15:34Speaker 1: a three additional uh episode or seasons coming within the
- 15:39Speaker 1: next I think too much. So episodes in half hour,
- 15:43Speaker 1: or you have one guest, you have regular people, celebrities, politicians, athletes.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Who who who's on the boat with you when you're fishing.
- 15:51Speaker 1: That's a great question, ra Sean, and we see whoever
- 15:55Speaker 1: has an incredible uh story. Typically you'll see retainers, athletes
- 16:01Speaker 1: every day. People will like veterans, firefighters, politicians, um, and
- 16:08Speaker 1: just people like you and I that you don't want
- 16:10Speaker 1: to do some fishing, but they have a great story.
- 16:12Speaker 1: We had recently uh Dr Hammond. She's a psychologist. Now
- 16:17Speaker 1: that's the interesting thing. She's never fished before in her life.
- 16:21Speaker 1: We had one of the best fishing days I've had
- 16:25Speaker 1: on the show with her, and we were fishing with artificial.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Why is that important Because artificial is a very difficult
- 16:32Speaker 1: bait to fish with. If you've never done artificial. Live
- 16:36Speaker 1: bait is easy because that's for leman young to the fish.
- 16:39Speaker 1: They can eat that easy. But artificial has to mimic
- 16:43Speaker 1: something live and you gotta make it come alive. She
- 16:46Speaker 1: was a fast learner and we caught literally close to
- 16:49Speaker 1: a hundred fish trout on a given day. That's never
- 16:52Speaker 1: happened before. It was just fast and furious. But my
- 16:55Speaker 1: point is simply this. Anyone that has a story, we
- 16:59Speaker 1: will find the accommodations for fishing style that actually is
- 17:04Speaker 1: caters to the level of fishing ability they have. It's
- 17:08Speaker 1: finally here, the season of celebration, and no matter how
- 17:12Speaker 1: you celebrate with family and friends, whether you're preparing for
- 17:15Speaker 1: reis magos or Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to
- 17:18Speaker 1: midnight mass, Coals has just what you need to make
- 17:21Speaker 1: those traditions special. Plus you'll find gifts for all your
- 17:25Speaker 1: loved ones. Send warm wishes with cozy fleeces, sweaters, loungeware,
- 17:30Speaker 1: blankets and throws. Support minority owned or founded brands by
- 17:34Speaker 1: giving gifts from Human Nation and shame moisture, or treat
- 17:37Speaker 1: them to everyone's favorite active wear from top brands like Nike, Adidas,
- 17:42Speaker 1: and under Armour. And in the spirit of giving, Coals
- 17:45Speaker 1: Cares is donating eight million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide
- 17:49Speaker 1: committed to the health and well being of our communities.
- 17:52Speaker 1: No matter how you celebrate, when you shop at Coals,

- 19:08Speaker 1: at her level when you met me in my backyard
- 19:11Speaker 1: to my little Yeah, you know you got the equipment,
- 19:18Speaker 1: but you have new was skilled so so. But I
- 19:20Speaker 1: think that helps with somebody and just women in general
- 19:24Speaker 1: more curious and more patient. But men we stand to
- 19:27Speaker 1: want to like just burst down the door and I
- 19:29Speaker 1: got this, I got this, I got this. So you know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: there's no as he being noisy? Fish here, you know, hey, man,
- 19:37Speaker 1: if you don't shut up? Okay, fishing here, vibrations in
- 19:40Speaker 1: the wall. Oh what really? Yes? Yes, yes, fish. Heat
- 19:46Speaker 1: is a quiet spool. Okay, it's not a football day,
- 19:49Speaker 1: not basketball. I just wanna let you know you're not
- 19:53Speaker 1: you know, Holliday at the baseball fish. You know you
- 19:56Speaker 1: don't do that fishing? Okay, you know what I'm talking about.
- 19:59Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking Why would get fish? When
- 20:02Speaker 1: you keep screaming like that, you don't get Let you
- 20:06Speaker 1: know that I don't know. I'm telling the truth. You
- 20:09Speaker 1: are telling it like you know. And I can appreciate
- 20:13Speaker 1: that because my dad used to be that way with us.
- 20:15Speaker 1: He's like, what shut you, bob, you hear you? You know?
- 20:19Speaker 1: Fish that is there? Hey, hey, hey, hey, don't go there,
- 20:24Speaker 1: young man. Don't go there. You know you'd be out
- 20:28Speaker 1: there with the fish, be out there with the fish. Okay,
- 20:31Speaker 1: you can swim knock you off this boat a time.
- 20:35Speaker 1: So just let's talk about this ring. The essentials are
- 20:39Speaker 1: going out there and fishing. Do you have to have
- 20:41Speaker 1: your off mosquito repellent when you go out there where
- 20:44Speaker 1: you gotta have, you gotta Here's what's so interesting is
- 20:47Speaker 1: you have to have some probably not as much mosquito
- 20:51Speaker 1: repellent as you think. And in Florida this is mosquito mecca.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And I think, but what I do is I seshed
- 20:58Speaker 1: the daytime. What my my actual sense is is sunscreen. Yes,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I have melanin in my skin. I'm an African American.
- 21:06Speaker 1: But sunscreen is so important because you can get some
- 21:10Speaker 1: I've seen some African American skin cancer and I'm like,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I don't think that's supposed to happen. But what happens
- 21:16Speaker 1: is it's all about education. So definitely have the sunscreen.
- 21:20Speaker 1: That's the first thing I do, uh, is make sure
- 21:22Speaker 1: the sun screens on so I'm greased up a little bit.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Then I also make sure that you have the appropriate gear.
- 21:29Speaker 1: If you never fished before, probably want to have a
- 21:32Speaker 1: spinning rod. And what a spinning rod is. It has
- 21:34Speaker 1: a bail on it and it has the elongated um
- 21:38Speaker 1: eyes that come off the rock. And it's a lot
- 21:41Speaker 1: easier to learn with a spinning rod than a bait caster.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Baycaster get you in trouble if you've never thown it before.
- 21:47Speaker 1: But a spinning rod is so important and a lot
- 21:50Speaker 1: of people still fish with it even though they may
- 21:52Speaker 1: how to may know how to throw a bay caster,
- 21:55Speaker 1: So it's it's a good place to start. And then
- 21:57Speaker 1: I like to have some good fishing line. I like
- 21:59Speaker 1: the row floor carbon versus monofilament. Then what's the difference.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Monofilament is a little bit more stretchy and it can
- 22:09Speaker 1: be seen. But the floor carbon we practiced the light
- 22:12Speaker 1: reflect the lights, so you can't see it underwater. Why
- 22:15Speaker 1: is that important because the fish can't see it as well.
- 22:19Speaker 1: In addition, it does not have stretch. So if it
- 22:22Speaker 1: doesn't have stretch, once you get a bite, you pull
- 22:25Speaker 1: on that thing you're pulling the fish mono has a
- 22:28Speaker 1: little stretch. So those are all little important things. And
- 22:32Speaker 1: people have little uh idiosyncrasy that they use with fishing.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And then some people even have superstition. Some people don't
- 22:39Speaker 1: believe in having bananas in the boat. I'm sorry I'm
- 22:41Speaker 1: gonna eat whenever I'm home, and I'm gonna eat whatever
- 22:44Speaker 1: I want to eat. So, you know, there's all sorts
- 22:48Speaker 1: of superstitions with fishing. But then there's also a lot
- 22:51Speaker 1: of information about fishing that people didn't know that I
- 22:54Speaker 1: didn't learn. I didn't learn about George Snyder until probably
- 22:57Speaker 1: about seven or eight years ago. He was the person
- 23:00Speaker 1: that created the first reel made in America. In ninety
- 23:05Speaker 1: and eighteen twenty, he with African America and he created
- 23:10Speaker 1: the first reel. Nobody knew that. People wi ask questions like, man,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I'm so glad to see African Americans fishing. Stop right there.
- 23:18Speaker 1: African Americans with some of the first to fish always
- 23:23Speaker 1: But this isn't that? Isn't that? Isn't that the problem
- 23:25Speaker 1: we have it right now? That history they always talking
- 23:28Speaker 1: about counseling culture. What the black culture has always been canceled. Wow,
- 23:33Speaker 1: that is a good point, you know, because of the
- 23:34Speaker 1: fact that because we're about to transition to into your
- 23:37Speaker 1: two parts series, the difficult discussion because of the fact
- 23:41Speaker 1: that when I look at our president, you know, quit
- 23:44Speaker 1: to sign executive orders to protect the Confederate statues. Okay,
- 23:49Speaker 1: and then turn around and say that Black Lives Matter
- 23:52Speaker 1: is a hate group and and not understanding their the
- 23:56Speaker 1: the the the accomplishments we had. That's why when Drew
- 24:00Speaker 1: Breese said his father's fought in the war and his
- 24:02Speaker 1: grandfather saw in the world, because in his mind he's
- 24:04Speaker 1: never been educated black people fought and anything, because the
- 24:10Speaker 1: history is not there. You know, the history doesn't write
- 24:12Speaker 1: us in like that. And now you know, we we
- 24:15Speaker 1: we they brought us over, they freed us. Okay. Then
- 24:17Speaker 1: it moved up to to uh, the I have a
- 24:20Speaker 1: dream speech. Then it moved up to the Civil rights
- 24:23Speaker 1: and after that, brother, you know, we didn't do anything
- 24:26Speaker 1: else but stay on welfare, sale crack and raised the
- 24:30Speaker 1: crime rate according to the population that wants to push
- 24:33Speaker 1: that narrative. And so when I hear you talk about
- 24:37Speaker 1: eighteen twin in a black man created the first really
- 24:42Speaker 1: fishing rod, I'm not stunned because, as you all know,
- 24:46Speaker 1: black people were creative because basically we're out there doing
- 24:49Speaker 1: the work anyway. So if you're doing the work, you're
- 24:51Speaker 1: gonna figure out how to do it faster and easier
- 24:53Speaker 1: and more convenient. That's why we created the cotton gym, Okay, now,
- 24:57Speaker 1: but you put together this this two parts, here's all
- 25:00Speaker 1: the difficult discussion. As I saw both episodes, it was
- 25:04Speaker 1: three black men, two white men. Tell us how you
- 25:07Speaker 1: selected the five and tell us how the whole scenario
- 25:11Speaker 1: the whole scenario started. Because it really was cool where
- 25:14Speaker 1: you did it, because you still kept the fishing aspect
- 25:18Speaker 1: into the episode wrapped around this conversation, which I really enjoyed.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't know what to expect, but when
- 25:24Speaker 1: I got that, went, oh, this is this is I
- 25:26Speaker 1: wouldn't say we're nice, but it was enjoyable because I wasn't.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I wasn't taken out of the whole reason why I
- 25:34Speaker 1: watched the show. But I was able to hear on
- 25:36Speaker 1: this conversation from men having the difficult conversations because even
- 25:41Speaker 1: though the conversation flowed the way flow, some statements will
- 25:44Speaker 1: held back a little bit, but a lot of honest
- 25:47Speaker 1: thing was at least transmitted. Talk to us about the
- 25:50Speaker 1: right quick running. Yeah, so what we did is we
- 25:53Speaker 1: took some folks that have been on my show already.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Everyone that was in the panel because I fished with
- 25:59Speaker 1: him before. Um, we had them on the show and
- 26:01Speaker 1: I've called several other folks and not everybody was comfortable.
- 26:05Speaker 1: So I was okay with that. So I took the
- 26:07Speaker 1: folks that were available, and uh, we had some folks
- 26:10Speaker 1: even fly in just to be a part of it.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Because when a lot has gone on in our country
- 26:16Speaker 1: over the last few months, Uh, there's been a lot
- 26:19Speaker 1: of conversation and talking to friends and family and then
- 26:22Speaker 1: talking to even the guys that were on the show
- 26:25Speaker 1: before we even got on the show, and there was
- 26:27Speaker 1: a lot of different dialogue and conversation about it. I said, well,
- 26:30Speaker 1: why don't we bring it to a place I said,
- 26:32Speaker 1: where it's my lane. And what I mean by my lane.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm not gonna try to walk into a surgeon's office
- 26:37Speaker 1: and try to become a surgeon just because I want to.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I'm not gonna try to be a politician because I
- 26:42Speaker 1: feel like I'm a politician. But I want to talk
- 26:44Speaker 1: about honest issues from the platform that I have. And
- 26:48Speaker 1: so we brought everybody on and we talked about the
- 26:51Speaker 1: difficult discussions. Uh with the show, it's starting off being
- 26:55Speaker 1: just one show, but after all the content was done
- 26:57Speaker 1: and CBS Sports agreed we need to have to show
- 27:00Speaker 1: through episodes and Uh. We we got into some deep
- 27:04Speaker 1: barreaus Colin Kaepernick. We got into you know, all of
- 27:08Speaker 1: the folks being killed, you know in the streets our police. Uh.
- 27:13Speaker 1: And then we talked about a little bit of everything.
- 27:16Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, we actually established
- 27:19Speaker 1: the ground rus. And there is a ground rus that
- 27:20Speaker 1: I established, uh, just based on my interaction with folks
- 27:25Speaker 1: and me and my wife sit down and talk about
- 27:27Speaker 1: it is belief system because that's where everything starts. And
- 27:30Speaker 1: so we define what a belief system is. And then
- 27:32Speaker 1: we actually built on belief system by moving to narrative,
- 27:36Speaker 1: because the narrative is an account of what you see,
- 27:40Speaker 1: sometimes infused with the belief system, which we all agree
- 27:43Speaker 1: the belief system comes from our parents or pair of figures.
- 27:48Speaker 1: So at the end of the day we talked about
- 27:50Speaker 1: all those issues and always being being able to refer
- 27:55Speaker 1: back to belief system and narrative. So just because you
- 27:59Speaker 1: see a certain thing and doesn't mean that it's exactly
- 28:01Speaker 1: what you see, but it's easy to ride to train
- 28:05Speaker 1: when you feel like your emotions are stirred. Case in
- 28:08Speaker 1: point is calling Kaepinet not talking about the the the
- 28:12Speaker 1: important fixed factor in it is he sat down on
- 28:16Speaker 1: his on his bottom, you know. At first, and then
- 28:21Speaker 1: UH talked to and consulted Sergeant Bowyer, who was a
- 28:24Speaker 1: long snapper on the San Francisco forty niners, and he said,
- 28:27Speaker 1: I agree with what you're doing, but it might be
- 28:29Speaker 1: a little bit more respectful. You can do whatever you want,
- 28:33Speaker 1: but I would recommend you take a knee. He said, well,
- 28:35Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna take a knee, and because
- 28:37Speaker 1: he wanted to take a peaceful stance, but the message,
- 28:40Speaker 1: the narrative was missed because he was doing it to
- 28:44Speaker 1: actually bring attention to what we are dealing with right now,
- 28:48Speaker 1: which is African American people are being assassinated in the
- 28:53Speaker 1: streets by people of authority that are paid to protect
- 28:56Speaker 1: and serve. So that was the issue. But the narrative
- 29:01Speaker 1: was slipped. And I talked about historically, and we couldn't
- 29:04Speaker 1: put everything into the episode. We had to depend on
- 29:07Speaker 1: the editor and I had to be a part of
- 29:09Speaker 1: that process as well, but we had to put what
- 29:11Speaker 1: we could get in at the end of the day. Historically,
- 29:15Speaker 1: if you look at Muhammad Ali, if you look at
- 29:18Speaker 1: the folks in n Olympics, if you look at any
- 29:23Speaker 1: entertainer yes, sir, it takes a stand about something simple
- 29:31Speaker 1: that is unrested has to do with us. The narrative
- 29:35Speaker 1: can be flipped because it's so easy to flip a
- 29:38Speaker 1: narrative because you want to stop the momentum. The momentum
- 29:41Speaker 1: is what you want to stop. So what you do
- 29:43Speaker 1: is find a way to give a Counternetter and I
- 29:45Speaker 1: talked about even Martin Luther King. There was always a
- 29:48Speaker 1: counter narrative with him, but we celebrate him as a hero,
- 29:53Speaker 1: American hero. We have a holiday dedicated to it. But
- 29:56Speaker 1: it was so many more in our country that look
- 30:00Speaker 1: like me. But again, narratives, so uh, it's interesting no
- 30:05Speaker 1: matter what we do. In some instances, sometimes the narratives
- 30:10Speaker 1: can be flicked. And it's because there is always a
- 30:13Speaker 1: countercurrent trying to say, hey, we don't want to give
- 30:17Speaker 1: that credit because we don't want to give the ability
- 30:20Speaker 1: for someone to actually change the belief system. Because if
- 30:22Speaker 1: you change the belief system, then people believe that there's
- 30:25Speaker 1: other people that did some other things in this country.
- 30:28Speaker 1: We don't want that. That's the that's the key right there,
- 30:30Speaker 1: giving credit given the recognition, you know, acknowledging that we
- 30:35Speaker 1: did not share properly the history of African Americans in
- 30:39Speaker 1: our school books. Uh, that's what we're talking about with
- 30:43Speaker 1: you know, when you when you walk around here and
- 30:45Speaker 1: you're saluting uh statues that of the Confederacy, and and
- 30:49Speaker 1: then you hear the word trader thrown out there a lot.
- 30:52Speaker 1: They were traders. They fought against the against them, they
- 30:56Speaker 1: try to they divide this country. But we're saluting them
- 30:59Speaker 1: as heroes. But we don't salute our accomplishments throughout the community,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you know. And so what we what we try to do.
- 31:06Speaker 1: And so so what I was looking at the two parter,
- 31:09Speaker 1: you know, I thought it was informative, it was humorous,
- 31:12Speaker 1: you know, a little what the little chubby guy name,
- 31:14Speaker 1: he was funny man, he was funny, he knew you know.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I spent a good under good conversation away and and
- 31:21Speaker 1: I love for the conversation about you can disagree with
- 31:23Speaker 1: the African American, but you but all you're you're not
- 31:26Speaker 1: a racist. And that's that's what the conversation we're trying
- 31:29Speaker 1: to get to is they talk to me. Don't just
- 31:31Speaker 1: talk to me, just talk And that's what that was
- 31:34Speaker 1: My big takeaway from watching your show was like just
- 31:36Speaker 1: talk to me and I get you there, but but
- 31:39Speaker 1: if you just assume something about me, and that's that's
- 31:43Speaker 1: where we all turned the wround corner. When you when
- 31:45Speaker 1: you lock your doors and I walked by, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 1: when you when you nervously walked past me, or when
- 31:50Speaker 1: the cop that a white person will never understand. I
- 31:53Speaker 1: gotta said, like this, that is different when a cop
- 31:57Speaker 1: stops a white person and an emotion that they feel
- 32:00Speaker 1: when the cops stops a black person, way different, way different, Yes, sir,
- 32:07Speaker 1: because I said this and I talked about it in
- 32:09Speaker 1: in the very first stepisode. That's your first storm my experience. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: you're the white passenger and he took you out, you
- 32:16Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, and brought you to the rack
- 32:18Speaker 1: and the white passenger like what's going on? He hey,
- 32:22Speaker 1: And that's that's really that's really where we had in
- 32:25Speaker 1: our lives right now, man, And to see that first
- 32:28Speaker 1: of all, you know, for you to do that for
- 32:30Speaker 1: your show, because you're gonna reach a totally different audience,
- 32:33Speaker 1: audience very you know, Fisherman. We're not saying that they
- 32:35Speaker 1: pretty conservative. They kind of rural minded individuals who needed
- 32:39Speaker 1: to see that conversation also from some people who were
- 32:42Speaker 1: courageous enough that we're white to sit down and have
- 32:45Speaker 1: this conversation, because that's how we're gonna win. Man. That's
- 32:48Speaker 1: that's that's how the flag comes down at NASCAR. Man,
- 32:50Speaker 1: That's how we're gonna remove some of these statues. He's
- 32:53Speaker 1: gonna want to remove them, all these Confederate statues and
- 32:56Speaker 1: walk around and realize that I have value And that's
- 32:59Speaker 1: all you told me. And you're show man, right. I
- 33:01Speaker 1: want to thank you for doing that, man, for you
- 33:03Speaker 1: realize what motivates you to do that about your show,
- 33:06Speaker 1: to do that bring that to your show. Well, well,
- 33:09Speaker 1: I think a lot of my motivation is again, I
- 33:11Speaker 1: always believe that with everything going on, make no mistakes
- 33:15Speaker 1: about it, I have emotion like anybody else, and I
- 33:18Speaker 1: get upset and I but I always feel like, you
- 33:20Speaker 1: gotta stay in your lane, so use your platform. So
- 33:23Speaker 1: my wife is a physician and where she does what
- 33:26Speaker 1: she does is at work as a physician, and she
- 33:29Speaker 1: can do what she does at her platform. But I
- 33:31Speaker 1: felt like I was not granted and get it this
- 33:35Speaker 1: platform just to sit on it and feel comfortable. That's
- 33:39Speaker 1: a problem. You cannot always feel comfortable. You gotta get
- 33:42Speaker 1: uncomfortable to make change. And that's the history of America
- 33:46Speaker 1: is You've got to do something that makes you uncomfortable
- 33:49Speaker 1: and that causes growth, not just for you, but everybody
- 33:52Speaker 1: around you. So I felt like I'm gonna do it
- 33:54Speaker 1: as fair and as possible by having a dialogue. And again,
- 33:59Speaker 1: people are gonna see it because a lot of folks
- 34:01Speaker 1: have never been exposed to it. So at the end
- 34:02Speaker 1: of the day, now they see a model here. Now
- 34:05Speaker 1: we got the best practice. So when people see a model,
- 34:09Speaker 1: they may be able to replicate that behavior in a
- 34:11Speaker 1: different environment. Cool writing. Thank you for I can see
- 34:15Speaker 1: this episode on Amazon Prime right now, Amazon Prime Video. Uh,
- 34:19Speaker 1: it will be coming. And as a matter of fact,
- 34:21Speaker 1: we have and you'll hear it first on your show.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Is We're gonna have an actual airing on on on
- 34:29Speaker 1: YouTube as well, especially in both episodes, because we really
- 34:33Speaker 1: want people to see this because many people don't have
- 34:35Speaker 1: cable nowdayes. Absolutely, I want to thank you my friend
- 34:38Speaker 1: Ronnie Green. Gotta come back to the ladder man and uh,
- 34:40Speaker 1: you know, take me big a and fish some more.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Just come out and eat dinner man. You know he
- 34:45Speaker 1: came by my house and fix your breakfast. Remember you
- 34:50Speaker 1: and I'm letting people to this day. It was so good.
- 34:53Speaker 1: I appreciate I didn't like I could do it like that, friend,
- 34:57Speaker 1: And thank you for coming on Money Making Conversations Ronnie Green,
- 35:00Speaker 1: Thank you, sir. You. When you hear more episodes of
- 35:03Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations, please go to Money Making Conversation dot com.
