- 2:33Speaker 1: Thank you for taking the time to call my show.
- 2:35Speaker 1: You know, we broadcast live every Tuesday on w c
- 2:38Speaker 1: OKA and Atlanta, Georgia and the syndicates nationally on HBCU
- 2:42Speaker 1: stations in nationwide as well as my podcast. But more importantly,
- 2:46Speaker 1: when I get a talent like you who understands that
- 2:48Speaker 1: the journey, you know, journey I mentioned when we first met.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We're back when on the Jamie Foxx Show. But it's
- 2:54Speaker 1: been a journey. Talk about let's start now presently the
- 2:57Speaker 1: excitement that's happening the podcast to talk show. How did
- 3:00Speaker 1: the talk show come about? Because you were guesting series
- 3:04Speaker 1: on it? And then also that the talk show was given,
- 3:07Speaker 1: It was you giving the opportunity to do it. Can
- 3:09Speaker 1: you walk it through that process emotionally and physically? Oh yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I've always wanted to do have a talk show of
- 3:17Speaker 1: my own. This started back eighteen years ago. I had
- 3:23Speaker 1: actually done a pilot for a talk show for ABC Disney.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I did it on the set of Regis and Kelly
- 3:31Speaker 1: and and it went, you know what, it was okay.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Like they came and saw me, the Disney people doing
- 3:39Speaker 1: stand up at the Last Factory Rashaun, and they liked me,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and they did this pilot and they tried to do
- 3:46Speaker 1: a sidekick and it didn't work. Um, you know, we
- 3:49Speaker 1: did chemistry testing with all of the major stars that
- 3:53Speaker 1: you hear about now and it didn't work. So they
- 3:55Speaker 1: did it for me by myself, and it was okay.
- 3:58Speaker 1: And the reason why it was okay, hey, it was
- 4:00Speaker 1: because they kept coming to me the executive thing, we
- 4:03Speaker 1: want to see that thing that you do on stage.
- 4:06Speaker 1: And I didn't know what that thing was that they
- 4:08Speaker 1: were talking about. All I knew was that I was
- 4:11Speaker 1: grateful to God for the opportunity. I just wanted to
- 4:14Speaker 1: make people laugh. My voice wasn't even as deep. It
- 4:16Speaker 1: pretty much was like, Hey, everybody, how you doing. Welcome
- 4:19Speaker 1: to my home show, right, And it didn't work then
- 4:23Speaker 1: eighteen years ago, because I didn't know who I was.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I didn't know really who my audience was. I didn't know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: I excuse me, what I would do, what I wouldn't do.
- 4:33Speaker 1: If you told me to stand on my head, I
- 4:35Speaker 1: would have done it as long as it made people laugh.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So fast forward. It didn't go, of course it didn't,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and so I got the opportunity. I went back to acting,
- 4:46Speaker 1: still having that dream, and I was doing a movie
- 4:48Speaker 1: called Who's Your Caddie? And they asked me to co
- 4:51Speaker 1: host on the View like a guest. Well, I got
- 4:54Speaker 1: that job, and you know that was like really my
- 4:58Speaker 1: training ground for show. And in the meantime, I've done
- 5:02Speaker 1: a lot of guests. You know, I was sitting on
- 5:04Speaker 1: the couch and I was a guest. So I learned
- 5:06Speaker 1: how to do talk shows and what I like. From
- 5:09Speaker 1: that end, I did the View, got let go, got
- 5:12Speaker 1: fired from the View, and I went and pitched a
- 5:16Speaker 1: talk Let's let's talk about that, because you know, I
- 5:19Speaker 1: know I've had some dark moments in Hollywood, because you know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: when it happens in public like that, you know, it's
- 5:25Speaker 1: not like working at IBM. It's not like working at
- 5:28Speaker 1: the post office and burber Key. You know, you just
- 5:30Speaker 1: walk home and go and tell your loved ones you
- 5:31Speaker 1: don't have a job. When it happens in public, that
- 5:34Speaker 1: really takes a twofold. It's takes the ego hit, it
- 5:37Speaker 1: takes a personal hit. And then you also wondered, oh,
- 5:41Speaker 1: you're gonna get another shot? How did you overcome that moment? Well,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I knew I couldn't be too upset when they released
- 5:49Speaker 1: me from the View because God had told me and
- 5:51Speaker 1: I have to go spiritual in my career because that
- 5:54Speaker 1: is the number one who has made it happen. But
- 5:57Speaker 1: God had said to me very clearly that last year
- 6:01Speaker 1: of the View, it's time to go, It's time to move.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And when I told my people, my team that I
- 6:08Speaker 1: was going to quit the View, everybody went into an uproar.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Oh my god, you won't be able to get a
- 6:13Speaker 1: talk show. It takes a year to develop. You're making
- 6:15Speaker 1: amazing money. And I was, you're making all of this money,
- 6:19Speaker 1: You're not gonna nobody in Hollywood knows you. No, No, no,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you can't, you can't, and I said no, God was
- 6:24Speaker 1: very clear it's time for me to go. It was
- 6:27Speaker 1: the year that Barbara Walters was retiring. And then once
- 6:31Speaker 1: I was clear on that, they kept trying to give
- 6:32Speaker 1: me more money at the View to keep me, and
- 6:36Speaker 1: I kept I continued saying no. And then Rashaun, once
- 6:39Speaker 1: it happened that I thought I was going to go
- 6:40Speaker 1: through a very messy divorce, I got scared and I said, oh,
- 6:46Speaker 1: this is gonna be expensive and messy. I'm gonna stay
- 6:48Speaker 1: at the View and take the big old stalary raise
- 6:52Speaker 1: they gave me. Well, do you know when God says
- 6:55Speaker 1: it's time to go, if you don't do it, he's
- 6:58Speaker 1: gonna push you out of it. Because he said it
- 7:00Speaker 1: was time to go. And so they released They did
- 7:04Speaker 1: not renew Jenny McCarthy's contract. They let go of a
- 7:08Speaker 1: Barbara Walker's co creator, Bill Getty. It was a number
- 7:11Speaker 1: of people that they were letting go. And I'm I'm
- 7:12Speaker 1: praying with everybody. I'm like, you know what, Jenny is
- 7:14Speaker 1: gonna be okay, God gonna give you something better. You
- 7:17Speaker 1: know what, Bill Getty is gonna be okay. And then
- 7:19Speaker 1: they called me in the office. They said, sariy Schever,
- 7:22Speaker 1: we need to see you. And I was like, for what.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I went in there and they said, um. They said,
- 7:27Speaker 1: we're gonna release you from your contract now. When you're
- 7:29Speaker 1: gonna do what? And they said, we're not gonna renew
- 7:32Speaker 1: your contract. And I said, but you get you just
- 7:36Speaker 1: were trying to give me a big salary bump. And
- 7:38Speaker 1: they said, no, things are different now and we're not
- 7:41Speaker 1: going to renew. And I remember I was sitting in
- 7:44Speaker 1: my dressing room in front of the mirror, and I said, Lord,
- 7:48Speaker 1: I'm about to go through this divorce. I got a
- 7:50Speaker 1: child with special needs, his therapy, his schooling. Did I
- 7:54Speaker 1: tell you I'm about to get divorced and this is
- 7:56Speaker 1: gonna cost me a lot of money? And it was
- 7:59Speaker 1: so still, the voice of God saying I told you
- 8:04Speaker 1: it was time to go. So if I got to
- 8:06Speaker 1: push you out, it's time to go. And I said, well,
- 8:10Speaker 1: then what am I supposed to do God, because I
- 8:12Speaker 1: don't know if I told you I'm getting a divorced.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Sometimes you've been talking to God but he didn't hear you.
- 8:17Speaker 1: And I just know God say, do you trust me?
- 8:21Speaker 1: And I said not really, I just I got this much,
- 8:25Speaker 1: this end of trust, and it was like I felt
- 8:28Speaker 1: like God saying that's all I need and that was it.
- 8:32Speaker 1: But resigned literally two weeks later, I don't even think
- 8:35Speaker 1: it was two weeks. Will Packer called me and he said, hey, lady, pause,
- 8:39Speaker 1: if I was two in the morning, I got a
- 8:41Speaker 1: role for you and right along too. Would you play
- 8:45Speaker 1: this part? I say yes. A week before that, Sinderella
- 8:48Speaker 1: on Broadway called and said, we want you to play
- 8:51Speaker 1: the evil stepmother Keiki Palmers playing Cinderella. You were the
- 8:55Speaker 1: first black evil stepmother on Broadway. I said, I can't sing.
- 8:59Speaker 1: They said, don't work. We took away all your solo
- 9:01Speaker 1: You're just gonna sing one Kiki and other in your
- 9:03Speaker 1: step daughters. I said, yes, I did a month's run,
- 9:07Speaker 1: got to stay in a big penhouse. They paid me
- 9:09Speaker 1: a lot of money to be on Broadway and and
- 9:12Speaker 1: went through very extensive divorce. But God always provided. So
- 9:17Speaker 1: that's how yes it was. It was a little embarrassing,
- 9:19Speaker 1: but I knew behind it right there was a reason
- 9:23Speaker 1: why they let me go. So sometimes I think we
- 9:25Speaker 1: look at things like, oh my God, what am I
- 9:27Speaker 1: gonna do? This is horrible? How am I going to
- 9:29Speaker 1: bounce back? But if God says it's time to go,
- 9:32Speaker 1: then there's something else that he has. So with that,
- 9:36Speaker 1: I went again around to Hollywood pitching a talk show
- 9:41Speaker 1: and everybody said no. Over sign absolutely, let everybody know.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'm talking to the one and only Sherry Shepherd. She's
- 9:47Speaker 1: talking about her history, but she now is the new
- 9:50Speaker 1: queen of daytime talk. If you haven't seen the show,
- 9:52Speaker 1: it's called Sherry in Image Award winning show that one
- 9:56Speaker 1: this year, And now she's telling us her journey. Her
- 9:58Speaker 1: journey is one of I said early, if you have
- 10:01Speaker 1: a gift, leave with your gift. And that's what she's doing.
- 10:04Speaker 1: And when people told her, her friends, her family, the
- 10:06Speaker 1: whole co workers told her to stay on the view,
- 10:08Speaker 1: she knew it was time to do to leave. That's
- 10:11Speaker 1: why I say, if you have a plan, you have
- 10:12Speaker 1: a dream, stick with it. And that's what she telling us.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Now continue the story. Well, I was pitching the talk show.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I had the vision in my head and everybody was
- 10:21Speaker 1: not interested. Everybody said no. They kept saying no, So
- 10:24Speaker 1: I said, well, what am I supposed to do? I
- 10:27Speaker 1: kept acting, but I kept honing my skills. I would
- 10:30Speaker 1: go I was on talk shows and again be a
- 10:32Speaker 1: guest right so that I get whole nose skills. And
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think after that I just started doing like game shows.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I was hosting the New Libay Game. I was hosting
- 10:42Speaker 1: another game show where I got to hone my skills,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and just like being able to improv and talk to people,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I kept doing stand up. All of these things really
- 10:51Speaker 1: prepped me for being able to do a talk show
- 10:53Speaker 1: stand up. I said, on stage for forty five minutes,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know you you handle stand up absolutely. I saw
- 10:59Speaker 1: you when you was open for Kim that Kim tour,
- 11:01Speaker 1: which was selling when I was opening for Kim and
- 11:04Speaker 1: baby Face. As when you stand on stage, you have
- 11:08Speaker 1: to talk for forty five minutes. And I always tell
- 11:12Speaker 1: people stand up comics make the best talk show homes
- 11:16Speaker 1: because we know how to create magic where there is none.
- 11:19Speaker 1: There's no death space with the stand up comic. We're
- 11:21Speaker 1: used to improving, we're used to making things funny, and
- 11:25Speaker 1: everybody is continued to say no. I continue. My acting
- 11:28Speaker 1: career flourished, and after that what happened was I think
- 11:34Speaker 1: around two thousand, two thousand and nine, Wendy Williams was
- 11:41Speaker 1: in we knew that she was sick, but we didn't
- 11:44Speaker 1: know she was in rehab. And I was assuming a
- 11:46Speaker 1: movie with Acon Crockett and DC and the Wendy Williams
- 11:51Speaker 1: the show called Now I have been a guest on
- 11:53Speaker 1: her show. There's even a clip of me on YouTube
- 11:55Speaker 1: of Wendy saying what do you want to do? And
- 11:57Speaker 1: I said, Wendy, I'm on my own talk show. Maybe
- 11:59Speaker 1: we could, Oh, Sherry wow Wow to existence I'm running
- 12:06Speaker 1: on the couch and I go, maybe we go with
- 12:08Speaker 1: Sherry if she laughed. And so they called me to
- 12:12Speaker 1: be they when the people were filling in for Wendy,
- 12:14Speaker 1: they had panels of comics, now this in two thousand
- 12:17Speaker 1: and nine, this in two thousand nine, two thousand and nine,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and they wanted me to be a part of a panel.
- 12:23Speaker 1: And I remember Michael Yo and different comics were filling
- 12:26Speaker 1: in at one time for Wendy, kind of like a
- 12:28Speaker 1: viewlight panel. And so when they called me, something inside
- 12:31Speaker 1: of me said say no, And I said no, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: will I will host if you let me do it
- 12:39Speaker 1: by myself, and give me two days Monday and Tuesday,
- 12:43Speaker 1: because Monday is your highest rated day. Because so much
- 12:45Speaker 1: stuff happens over the weekend and people want to see
- 12:47Speaker 1: what you're gonna say. And they said, absolutely not. You'll
- 12:51Speaker 1: be a part of a panel. And I said no,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and I walked away, and I remember saying a fon.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I hope I did the right thing, but I know
- 12:57Speaker 1: I came from doing the view, so I know I
- 13:00Speaker 1: could do it by myself. It's been my dream. They
- 13:02Speaker 1: didn't call me for about two or three weeks. Heki
- 13:05Speaker 1: Palmer hosted it by herself. There are only four people
- 13:08Speaker 1: that did it. Michael Rapp Report hosted it by himself,
- 13:11Speaker 1: Jerry O'Connell hosted it by himself, and me, and they
- 13:15Speaker 1: called me back and they said, we'll let you host
- 13:17Speaker 1: it for two days by yourself, Monday and Tuesday. And
- 13:23Speaker 1: I was so nervous, but when I tell you, the
- 13:25Speaker 1: ratings were amazing. When I hosted it. They called me
- 13:31Speaker 1: really before I had even left New York, and they said,
- 13:33Speaker 1: can you host again the entire week. By the time
- 13:36Speaker 1: I got back to my hotel to change, they had
- 13:39Speaker 1: canceled it. They canceled me hosting. They showed reruns. But
- 13:42Speaker 1: what they did do is debmart Mercury offered me a
- 13:46Speaker 1: talk show back in two thousand and nine, and it
- 13:50Speaker 1: didn't happen. When I tell you, Rashaun, I literally was that. God,
- 13:55Speaker 1: what is going on? Two thousand not We negotiated the salary,
- 14:01Speaker 1: we had everything together. I knew what I would do
- 14:03Speaker 1: with this talk show that my Mercury had, and it
- 14:07Speaker 1: just they pulled the contract literally before I was supposed
- 14:11Speaker 1: to sign it. And I'm going, what in the world,
- 14:17Speaker 1: ugly cries not running down my nose. My ratings were
- 14:20Speaker 1: amazing for those two days, no reason. My team just goes,
- 14:25Speaker 1: they just pulled the contract. They resended the offer. So
- 14:28Speaker 1: I go again to Hollywood pitching is my demo reel
- 14:33Speaker 1: was me filling in for Wendy, and I took it
- 14:36Speaker 1: around and one lady even said, a big casting director,
- 14:39Speaker 1: there's a big talk show in the air now that
- 14:41Speaker 1: they produced. She looked at me and she I said,
- 14:44Speaker 1: I got the sizzle reel because it kind of shows
- 14:46Speaker 1: what I want to do from my own time. She
- 14:48Speaker 1: said I don't need to see it, and I said,
- 14:50Speaker 1: but I really need you to see it. She goes,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I don't and she did her hand like dismissing dismission.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I don't very dismissingly, she said, I don't need to
- 14:58Speaker 1: see it, and she proceeded to tell me about a
- 15:01Speaker 1: new talk show they had picked up, and if they
- 15:03Speaker 1: had picked up this other talk show with a singer
- 15:06Speaker 1: from a music show and it was amazing and you know,
- 15:10Speaker 1: and she was like, maybe I could put you on
- 15:13Speaker 1: a talk show where it's four three cooks and you
- 15:17Speaker 1: learn how to America with the And I'm like, I
- 15:21Speaker 1: don't that is very true. It's Sherry, oh that thought.
- 15:25Speaker 1: We're gonna be right back because I'm telling you you
- 15:27Speaker 1: want to hear about the Too Funny Mama's tour that podcast.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Want to hear about all her opportunities. More importantly, Sherry,
- 15:34Speaker 1: you following your dreams. You live in your dreams. That's
- 15:36Speaker 1: what you show money, money making conversations, masterclasses all the time,
- 15:39Speaker 1: letting people that in your darkest moment, would keep dreaming,
- 15:42Speaker 1: in your darkest moment, would keep winning because people out
- 15:44Speaker 1: there will find you because they believe in you, and
- 15:47Speaker 1: God has blessed you because you willing to put in
- 15:50Speaker 1: the work. Be right back, more money making conversations, masterclass.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Don't don't go nowhere, Shary Shepherd, be right back, please,
- 15:56Speaker 1: don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more money

- 16:16Speaker 1: of success with no signs of slowing down, he explains
- 16:19Speaker 1: why he's so passionate about creating opportunities for others. It's
- 16:24Speaker 1: all about the community. For me, it's about giving other
- 16:26Speaker 1: people opportunities. It's about opening doors and sharing the knowledge,
- 16:29Speaker 1: wealth and wisdom that I've obtained with everyone else. I mean,

- 17:01Speaker 1: to the Money Making Conversations Masterclass hosted by Rashaan McDonald.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Welcome back to Rushan McDonald. I'm an interview. I'm interviewing
- 17:09Speaker 1: Sherry Sheep with the new Queen of Daytime Talk. It's
- 17:12Speaker 1: not something that thought that she just thought of last week.
- 17:15Speaker 1: It's something that's been hit on mind for a long time.
- 17:17Speaker 1: You know, always to be able to can a dream
- 17:19Speaker 1: come true? Yes, if you put the work in can
- 17:21Speaker 1: a dream come true? Yes? If you believe in yes,
- 17:23Speaker 1: if you keep telling people this is something you want
- 17:27Speaker 1: to do. Sherry that there was a daughter's there was
- 17:30Speaker 1: people who questioned you. At what point did you and
- 17:32Speaker 1: yourself realize you know something, I'm gonna trust me. I'm
- 17:36Speaker 1: gonna trust Sherry Shep. You know at what point? I
- 17:39Speaker 1: just I believed always, even when I got let go
- 17:44Speaker 1: from the view, I knew I had something to offer.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I just knew I needed one person to believe in me,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and no matter that I kept getting knows. Yes, it hurts, Yes,
- 17:56Speaker 1: I cried, But I knew that God didn't put this
- 18:01Speaker 1: dream inside of me and have me doing and me
- 18:04Speaker 1: being so good at it that it would fall to
- 18:06Speaker 1: the wayside, and I knew I had to hold on
- 18:09Speaker 1: to that dream despite what it looked like, because, like
- 18:14Speaker 1: I said, when I ran around this the last time
- 18:17Speaker 1: in Hollywood and everybody was saying no Rashaan, there was
- 18:20Speaker 1: one network that I went to and the woman said
- 18:24Speaker 1: to me she was ahead of the network and they
- 18:27Speaker 1: didn't have any talk shows, and she said, I got
- 18:29Speaker 1: chills watching you still in for Wendy in two thousand
- 18:33Speaker 1: and nine. She said, I loved the civil real I'm
- 18:36Speaker 1: the one that makes the decision, and I knew before
- 18:39Speaker 1: I walked out of the room that I had the
- 18:40Speaker 1: deal for my own talk show. Do you know six
- 18:43Speaker 1: weeks later they called my team and they said, nope,
- 18:46Speaker 1: we're gonna go with another woman. We think she's amazing
- 18:49Speaker 1: and we're not gonna do seriously, And I go, what
- 18:51Speaker 1: happened to the ladies? She got chills? Right, And when
- 18:54Speaker 1: I say that was when I set out and I
- 18:57Speaker 1: cried again, and I said, I said, Lord, this is
- 18:59Speaker 1: too painful, this dream. I can see it in my
- 19:03Speaker 1: mind of what I want to do, and it's so painful.
- 19:06Speaker 1: The knows that I'm gonna I'm gonna focus on my
- 19:09Speaker 1: acting and let you bring this back to me. Um,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you know, because I just don't want to. I don't
- 19:14Speaker 1: want to think about it. Which bat you're telling anybody
- 19:16Speaker 1: you didn't just sit around and soul because you didn't
- 19:18Speaker 1: sit around and going, oh this is this is the
- 19:20Speaker 1: end of the road. Because you and I were talking
- 19:22Speaker 1: all the time, you know, because at the time that
- 19:24Speaker 1: whole twenty twelve to twenty fifty sixteen, you know, Steve
- 19:27Speaker 1: Harvey and I was up in Chicago. We would invite
- 19:30Speaker 1: you on to the show as a gas and we
- 19:32Speaker 1: talked about the acting opportunities, and you will, you were
- 19:36Speaker 1: staying focused. You were letting the good in you, the
- 19:38Speaker 1: success in you, to keep moving you forward and not
- 19:41Speaker 1: waddling around into what else. No, I didn't. And I
- 19:45Speaker 1: remember doing, um, um, the Steve Harvey Show, and I
- 19:48Speaker 1: remember you guys will following me out there, and I
- 19:50Speaker 1: remember you would be so encouraging to me, and you
- 19:53Speaker 1: would tell me how good I was. The one thing
- 19:55Speaker 1: I know I was. I'm a great guest. Yes you are, Yes,
- 19:58Speaker 1: you are. The mark of agree guest is you don't
- 20:01Speaker 1: have the talk show host don't have to do any work.
- 20:03Speaker 1: They can literally sit back and enjoy you. And that's
- 20:06Speaker 1: one of the things that I knew as soon as
- 20:08Speaker 1: I stepped out on a couch and somebody had to
- 20:10Speaker 1: interview me, just Jabi Guida, let me go and enjoy
- 20:14Speaker 1: the show, and I just started. I really my acting
- 20:19Speaker 1: took off. I was a regular and sitcoms and doing
- 20:22Speaker 1: the movies and critically acclaimed movies. And what happened was
- 20:28Speaker 1: out of the blue, when I tell you, out of
- 20:32Speaker 1: the blue, I got a call. Not only was I
- 20:36Speaker 1: co hosting, they asked me back to co host for
- 20:38Speaker 1: a week the View. I hadn't been on the View
- 20:41Speaker 1: for three years and they called me and they said,
- 20:44Speaker 1: could you just sit in for an entire week? So
- 20:47Speaker 1: that was amazing. I got to sit in for an
- 20:49Speaker 1: entire week and I got a phone call from jeb
- 20:52Speaker 1: My Mercury and they said, could you fill in for
- 20:55Speaker 1: a week now. At the time, oh, I didn't even
- 20:58Speaker 1: say this. I had gone to dish. They wanted me
- 21:01Speaker 1: to be a co host in Atlanta, and I said, no,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I'm not moving to Atlanta. I'm thinking, if you'll if
- 21:07Speaker 1: you'll let me do it in La I'll think about it.
- 21:09Speaker 1: And I met with the deditionation Folks, which is owned
- 21:13Speaker 1: by five by Fox, absolutely Fox and the payment Steve
- 21:17Speaker 1: Brown over the Fox. Steve Brown and I remember being
- 21:21Speaker 1: in the meeting Rishan and we're talking, talking, talking, and
- 21:25Speaker 1: I said to them, with my ultimate goal, I you know,
- 21:28Speaker 1: being a co host is great, but my ultimate goal
- 21:31Speaker 1: is I want my own talk show. And they said
- 21:35Speaker 1: to me, they go, well, Nick Cannon has a show,
- 21:38Speaker 1: so don't a face. And I go, Nick Cannon, Now
- 21:44Speaker 1: this is the reasoning Nick Cannon and we love each
- 21:46Speaker 1: other out. Nick Cannon, Well, I said it was because
- 21:51Speaker 1: the people who who filled in from Wendy by themselves,
- 21:55Speaker 1: they all got a show. Kekey Palmer went on to
- 21:59Speaker 1: co host with Michael Strayhand. She got that gig. And
- 22:05Speaker 1: right after filling as Wendy, Michael Rappaport got I think
- 22:09Speaker 1: he did a pilot, uh for a talk show. It
- 22:12Speaker 1: didn't go. Jerry O'Connell did a six week test run,
- 22:16Speaker 1: remember his talk show. Those three they all had to
- 22:21Speaker 1: say it. I like, and so Nick Cannon also, he
- 22:24Speaker 1: stills in't by himself. Still was five of us. So
- 22:26Speaker 1: when they said Nick Cannon had it, so I was like,
- 22:29Speaker 1: everybody who feels it got something. And literally I went.
- 22:34Speaker 1: They said, yeah, Nick Cannon's his show's coming out, so
- 22:37Speaker 1: we don't really have the space for another talk show,
- 22:40Speaker 1: and but we want you to be on Dish. Now
- 22:42Speaker 1: I accept the destination. Thank goodness, because as soon as
- 22:45Speaker 1: I accepted it, uh, quarantine happened. So they had already right.
- 22:52Speaker 1: But when they said Nick Cannon, and it just it
- 22:55Speaker 1: was a representative of everything that, like, I could see
- 22:59Speaker 1: my dream. But I'm gonna Lord, everybody else's getting it
- 23:02Speaker 1: but me. And I went downstairs in the parking lot
- 23:06Speaker 1: and I started crying again, and my manager started crying too,
- 23:10Speaker 1: and I looked at him and I go, what are
- 23:11Speaker 1: you're crying for? And I'm crying, Creed, You're making me cry?
- 23:15Speaker 1: And I go with this. I don't like I'm just
- 23:18Speaker 1: like rich white Man. I don't like being cry And
- 23:20Speaker 1: I go, you just let me to be crying. You're
- 23:22Speaker 1: getting commission. You're fine. So after that happened, I stayed
- 23:28Speaker 1: on this nation, which prepared me again. Then I was
- 23:32Speaker 1: at home by myself, reading a prompter, and also once
- 23:36Speaker 1: we got back in the studio, reading a prompter by myself.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But you would think that I was really um interacting
- 23:42Speaker 1: with the Atlanta crew, bratt and head cracking all of them.
- 23:45Speaker 1: So reading that prompter helped me tell a story like
- 23:50Speaker 1: a bunch of people are in the room. So that
- 23:52Speaker 1: prepared me so when the when the offer came from
- 23:55Speaker 1: Detmar for me to fill in, I was on the
- 23:57Speaker 1: View guest co hosting, and they called jeb Mar Mercury
- 24:01Speaker 1: and said, could you fill in for a week. I
- 24:05Speaker 1: ended up filling in for a week, and they kept
- 24:07Speaker 1: asking me to come back for another week. This nation
- 24:10Speaker 1: was getting mad and they were saying they, hey, wait
- 24:11Speaker 1: a minute, hold on't they said no. I said, Lord,
- 24:15Speaker 1: you gotta work it out. If this is from you,
- 24:18Speaker 1: then you will work it out. Then all of a sudden,
- 24:20Speaker 1: this nation would say go ahead and do another couple
- 24:22Speaker 1: of weeks. Ellen called me. I hadn't been on The
- 24:25Speaker 1: Ellen Show in twelve years. And then she called and
- 24:28Speaker 1: she said, I want you to come back for my
- 24:30Speaker 1: last season. And then but then I was supposed to
- 24:35Speaker 1: sit in for a week with zeb Mar Mercury, who
- 24:37Speaker 1: did the Wendy Show. And they said absolutely not because
- 24:40Speaker 1: we've had you to sit in. And I said, Lord,
- 24:43Speaker 1: if this is what I'm supposed to do, you'll work
- 24:45Speaker 1: out both Rashaan. Do you know they worked it out
- 24:48Speaker 1: so I was able to do Ellen. I hadn't set
- 24:50Speaker 1: in her seat for twelve years, and I still was
- 24:52Speaker 1: able to go to New York and my ratings were
- 24:55Speaker 1: so high when I filled in for Wendsy and I said, Lord,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I'm just gonna leave it to you. I'm not gonna
- 25:02Speaker 1: think about it. I'm just gonna do what she created
- 25:04Speaker 1: me to do. And then they came through with the
- 25:07Speaker 1: offer for me to have my own talk show. Congratulation,
- 25:10Speaker 1: same offer to day come back within two thousand and nine.
- 25:13Speaker 1: More money, more money, money. You gotta know your words
- 25:17Speaker 1: and number one number one. I know you do. We
- 25:21Speaker 1: text each other all the time. You text me. Look
- 25:23Speaker 1: at this, I'm number one the women and then number
- 25:24Speaker 1: one talking to daytime talk show. And but that doesn't
- 25:27Speaker 1: stop you. I'm just telling you something about her. You know,
- 25:29Speaker 1: she has a movie she's gonna do this summer. But
- 25:31Speaker 1: more importantly, she's doing a comedy tour with the incredibly
- 25:35Speaker 1: funny actress Kim Whitley, who I also have known for
- 25:38Speaker 1: many many years. To two. Funny Mama's podcast was started
- 25:42Speaker 1: basically on the Tim Join the Show correct that's when
- 25:44Speaker 1: you guys got together as a duo and now you're
- 25:47Speaker 1: turning into the podcast. It has one back to back
- 25:49Speaker 1: in WACP Awards for an Image Award for Outstanding Podcasts.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So what's this? What's this tour? Y'all doing? Stand up?
- 25:58Speaker 1: What are y'all doing out there? We decided to It
- 26:01Speaker 1: took me three years to get this girl to do
- 26:03Speaker 1: a podcast with me, and she finally said yes, and
- 26:06Speaker 1: we were doing that during the quarantine. We just wanted
- 26:09Speaker 1: to make people laugh and it's been so successful and
- 26:12Speaker 1: we've won the NAACP Image Awards. I say, Ken, we
- 26:14Speaker 1: got to take this on the road because I don't
- 26:16Speaker 1: know any duo that can get on stage and stand
- 26:18Speaker 1: there for an hour and talk to each other. And
- 26:22Speaker 1: she said yes. So we're doing some test days to
- 26:26Speaker 1: see how it goes. If we can stand each other
- 26:28Speaker 1: for three consecutive weekends, and if we do that, we
- 26:33Speaker 1: will continue this tour. And so're you can go to
- 26:36Speaker 1: Cherry Show tv dot com to find out where we're
- 26:39Speaker 1: gonna be. We're gonna be in New Brunswick, New Jersey,
- 26:41Speaker 1: Ben Salem, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware, and so Cherry showtv
- 26:48Speaker 1: dot com to find out exactly where the theaters are,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and we're just doing stand up and we bowled our
- 26:53Speaker 1: stand up comments. We love doing stand up, so to
- 26:56Speaker 1: be able to go out there and take this experience
- 26:58Speaker 1: live to folks, those Shenanigan, I'm so excited. Well, I
- 27:02Speaker 1: just I gotta ask this because both of you do
- 27:04Speaker 1: a brilliant improv y'all Do y'all do any of that?
- 27:08Speaker 1: Do y'all come back on stage together? Or just one
- 27:10Speaker 1: doesn't said and then the other doesn't said? How does
- 27:12Speaker 1: that work? As far as stand up? Risant when I say,
- 27:15Speaker 1: we've been doing the improv and we get on stage
- 27:18Speaker 1: and we get up, and we did a live stream
- 27:20Speaker 1: during quarantine, and you know, so people could see it.
- 27:24Speaker 1: We did almost ninety minutes improv on stage together just talking. Now,
- 27:30Speaker 1: what we do is we come on stage together for
- 27:32Speaker 1: about fifteen minutes, and we really got to be strict
- 27:35Speaker 1: because Kim and I can talk for two days. Right,
- 27:37Speaker 1: come on for about fifty three minutes him, I leave,
- 27:41Speaker 1: I introduce Kim. She does stand up for about twenty
- 27:44Speaker 1: thirty minutes. I come back and I do usually about
- 27:47Speaker 1: twenty or thirty minutes as well, then we do a
- 27:49Speaker 1: Q and A together and we're on stage. Probably we're
- 27:53Speaker 1: on stage, and today's stay. This is a union theater.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Absolutely we were. We were just talk together and we
- 28:01Speaker 1: take questions from the audience and it's just a really
- 28:04Speaker 1: great night. We'll tell us again, how can we find
- 28:06Speaker 1: out about the dates and give us the three dates
- 28:08Speaker 1: again that right now? Tell everybody this is an initial
- 28:12Speaker 1: start of a great stand up comedy tour, stand up comedy.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Both of them are doing it live stand up comedy tool.
- 28:17Speaker 1: It's called Two Funny Mamas starring Cherry Shepherd and Kim Whitley.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Tell us those dates, tell us where we can go
- 28:24Speaker 1: and look get more information about tickets. May nineteenth, we
- 28:28Speaker 1: are in New Brunswood, New Jersey. May twentieth, we're ben Salem, Pennsylvania.
- 28:32Speaker 1: May twenty first, we are in Wilmington, Delaware. You can
- 28:36Speaker 1: go to Cherry showtv dot com and buy a ticket.
- 28:39Speaker 1: And this weekend I'm at the City Winery in Chelsea
- 28:42Speaker 1: Piers in New York. If you're in New York March
- 28:45Speaker 1: thirty first and May fourth, I'm also at the City
- 28:48Speaker 1: Winery in New York. What did I say? Or May
- 28:52Speaker 1: fourth if you're in town. So those are the standard dates.
- 28:55Speaker 1: But can I just thank you for when I got
- 28:58Speaker 1: to stalk show course now that I have it, when
- 29:00Speaker 1: they offered a toith me and they said yes, I
- 29:02Speaker 1: was like they gave a simpy you know, and I'm
- 29:07Speaker 1: thankful you said to me, who is your audience? Who
- 29:11Speaker 1: are you? Who are you talking to? And it really
- 29:14Speaker 1: made me sit down and go who am I? And
- 29:17Speaker 1: that is that is informed every decision I make because
- 29:20Speaker 1: remember I said I didn't know what I was doing
- 29:22Speaker 1: eighteen years ago. Today I know how I can say no,
- 29:27Speaker 1: I know who I'm talking to, who my audience is.
- 29:30Speaker 1: We're number two we tired with Doctor Phil for women
- 29:33Speaker 1: twenty five to fifty four, right behind Kelly and m
- 29:38Speaker 1: Ryan and number one new talk show. So I know
- 29:41Speaker 1: from you saying Sherry, who are you? Who are you
- 29:44Speaker 1: talking to? I'm a single mom, I'm an entrepreneur, i
- 29:48Speaker 1: am divorced, I was married one. I'm a woman who
- 29:52Speaker 1: came up, who went, who was down and got back up.
- 29:55Speaker 1: That's who I'm talking to. I'm a woman in her fifties.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm talking to women also who are trying to redo
- 30:02Speaker 1: their life and reinvent themselves. That's who I'm talking to.
- 30:07Speaker 1: So I know when when somebody comes to me with
- 30:09Speaker 1: old cockamami idea twenty one year old girl, poor beer
- 30:13Speaker 1: over her friend, that's not me show, that is that you.
- 30:20Speaker 1: She's the incredible with Sheriffy Shepherd. You know your friend,
- 30:24Speaker 1: and you know I love you to death, and I
- 30:26Speaker 1: know we text back and forth the good times and
- 30:28Speaker 1: the bad times that we've had in our career. But
- 30:31Speaker 1: right now it's the good times and congratulations. And you
- 30:33Speaker 1: know I'm going to help you own that comedy tour
- 30:36Speaker 1: because guess what the world needs to see too, Funny
