  of Acts chapter 27, verse 18. Acts 27, verse

  18 says, We took such a violent battering from

  the storm that the next day they began to throw

  the cargo overboard. It even goes on to say in

  verse 19, On the third day they threw the ship's
• 0:20
  tackle overboard with their own hands. The bottom
• 0:24
  line is they were throwing over everything they
• 0:26
  thought they needed to survive. weeks rent payment,
• 0:31
  their food on the table in a few weeks. And it
• 0:34
  gets down to that. When it comes to survival,
• 0:36
  when it is about thinking and drowning, that's
• 0:39
  when people start to think that all the blessings
• 0:40
  that they have received aren't the kind of things
• 0:43
  that they can't possibly live without. And here
• 0:46
  is the reality of it. There's only one thing
• 0:48
  we can't live without, and that is an enduring,
• 0:51
  eternal, personal relationship with God through
• 0:55
  His Son, Jesus Christ. So we don't really need
• 1:00
  half the things that the world is so worried
• 1:02
  about. I think about Lot's wife, as Sodom and
• 1:05
  Gomorrah were being burnt. The angels told her,
• 1:09
  don't look back, and she looked back and turned
• 1:11
  into a pillar of salt. I think about Job, who
• 1:13
  lost everything in his trials, and then God gave
• 1:16
  it all back to him in the end. The bottom line
• 1:18
  is, we have a lot of things we don't necessarily
• 1:20
  need, and we've got to decide what it is that
• 1:23
  really pours into our relationship with God,
• 1:26
  and that thing we keep. when times get tough,
• 1:29
  and everything else is grist for the mill. Everything
• 1:32
  else, we let go and let God use it however he
• 1:34
  wants. If he wants to take it away, he can give
• 1:36
  it again, and we trust him. Upcoming, April 5th,
