- 2:08Speaker 1: with our guess. So my next guest as Holly has
- 2:12Speaker 1: Hollywood buzzing about her new book, Dirty Little Secrets that
- 2:16Speaker 1: Nobody Wants to tell you about the entertainment industry. I've
- 2:19Speaker 1: been in the industry, entertainment industry. I read this book
- 2:22Speaker 1: very excitable, very I got very excited when I first
- 2:25Speaker 1: of I read the titler. Oh, curiosity killed the cat.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I gotta know, I gotta know, And she's told me
- 2:30Speaker 1: a lot of information. Some things I did know, some
- 2:32Speaker 1: things I didn't know. That's all the process of why
- 2:34Speaker 1: we read, why we educate ourselves. She's the one behind
- 2:37Speaker 1: the scene of many many music and beloved artists including uh,
- 2:42Speaker 1: Tony Braxton, Chante More, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, World Downing and Vogue,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Escape the brad Oh and many more. Please welcome to
- 2:52Speaker 1: money making conversations. I don't know how I missed this
- 2:55Speaker 1: young lady in my journey in music. Chryl Cobb, Hello,
- 3:00Speaker 1: good morning afternoon. How did I missed you? You know
- 3:06Speaker 1: all these names here? You know Tony Braxton, Chante Moore,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you know Fantasia. So many times I've encountered my relationships
- 3:15Speaker 1: saying Fantasis in Vogue escape the brad how did we not?
- 3:20Speaker 1: And even in your when you said Barry Hankerson, when
- 3:22Speaker 1: you said Baron Hankerson, who was at the time was
- 3:24Speaker 1: managing or kill, I go, Hi, have I not met
- 3:27Speaker 1: this young ladies? Your car, we said Barry. When I
- 3:30Speaker 1: read your book, you said Baron Hankerson, I went through.
- 3:32Speaker 1: I said, I don't know how I've not met her.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You know what's funny, And you know this, working with Salent,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you're in the background, and I tried to really stay
- 3:44Speaker 1: in the background and let the artists be the artist.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'd be the manager or the branding person and let
- 3:50Speaker 1: them do their job. And I was there to support
- 3:52Speaker 1: and I enjoyed. It was fun and I liked it
- 3:55Speaker 1: like that. Well, you know the funny part about your book,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I would like to ask, I guess when they come
- 3:59Speaker 1: on on the show, what is your gift or gifts?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Srill carb One of my loyalty, m loyalty is when
- 4:10Speaker 1: I'll tell you this, it's also it's one of my
- 4:14Speaker 1: wisest and biggest strengths and also one of my biggest failures,
- 4:17Speaker 1: because I'm loyal to a fault, and sometimes that will
- 4:20Speaker 1: get you in trouble. But my father was a marine.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Semprefied that's how I grew up. And when you get
- 4:27Speaker 1: into something that you love and you attach yourself to
- 4:30Speaker 1: something that you believe in, then you'd be loyal to
- 4:32Speaker 1: that and and praise perfectly, they'll they'll be loyal to you.
- 4:36Speaker 1: But that's one of my biggest strengths is loyalty. We
- 4:40Speaker 1: know it's really also when I say that, is that
- 4:42Speaker 1: when I'm reading a book. One of the things that
- 4:44Speaker 1: one of my big takeaways from your book the book
- 4:46Speaker 1: I'm talking to Sheriff carb and her book is entitled
- 4:49Speaker 1: Dirty Little Secrets that Nobody Wants to tell you about
- 4:52Speaker 1: the entertainment industry, was that we get into this business
- 4:56Speaker 1: not really knowing our true gifts. That's why I asked
- 4:59Speaker 1: what your gift was, because you know, you came in
- 5:01Speaker 1: and as an assistant for a lot of uh talented people.
- 5:05Speaker 1: And one of the fun stories I read was when
- 5:08Speaker 1: Tony Braxton looked at you and said, you you're not
- 5:10Speaker 1: a manager, You're not as sister, You're a manager, and
- 5:14Speaker 1: the very next day you quit and she fired you
- 5:17Speaker 1: at the same time. Story it was a mutual agreement.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It was we were working on a video in Miami, Florida,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and she was lovely and I went in and we
- 5:29Speaker 1: were introduced through mutual friends and after spending a couple
- 5:32Speaker 1: of days on the video shoot, on the way home, yeah,
- 5:34Speaker 1: she was like, you know, I don't know why you're
- 5:38Speaker 1: trying to be my assistant. But she didn't know that
- 5:40Speaker 1: I had just gotten into the business and I've been
- 5:44Speaker 1: working with Luther Vanrol for about maybe nine months. That
- 5:48Speaker 1: was my first gig, Luther v Andros traveling the world,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and she needed an assistant and I was like, hey,
- 5:54Speaker 1: this is the next gig. I'll take it right and
- 5:57Speaker 1: I took the job, and you know, after the weekend,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I was I can't do this. I can't do it,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and the same it's just like I think you should,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you should be something else. I'll tell you what. Maybe
- 6:07Speaker 1: Like um about after, she said this is not gonna
- 6:10Speaker 1: work and I said, you know, you're right, it's absolutely
- 6:13Speaker 1: not gonna work out. She called me back about a
- 6:15Speaker 1: month later, just randomly at the Clear Blue Sky and
- 6:18Speaker 1: said I'm going to Europe. I need a tour manager.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Would you be interested? And I was like absolutely, I'd
- 6:24Speaker 1: never traveled to Europe, uh in that capacity but I
- 6:28Speaker 1: was like, I could do it, and that's why we
- 6:30Speaker 1: started our journey. And I think we had like a
- 6:33Speaker 1: six or seven year journey from you know, for me
- 6:35Speaker 1: being her road matt tour manager road manager onto her
- 6:38Speaker 1: day to day manager and then made of honor in
- 6:41Speaker 1: her wedding. So it was, you know, that's how relationships established. Um.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But that's how I started my journey with Tony Braxton
- 6:48Speaker 1: and it was a good journey. Well, you know, it's
- 6:49Speaker 1: really interesting when I read when I'm reading about the
- 6:52Speaker 1: book because that little moment right there, being a tour
- 6:55Speaker 1: manager to Europe. Okay, now that's something you had not
- 6:58Speaker 1: done at the time, had not, But that did not
- 7:02Speaker 1: throw any fear into you, like, oh let me pass
- 7:05Speaker 1: on this opportunity. But that's the drive, that's the drive
- 7:09Speaker 1: that you have inside, that's the that's the gift that
- 7:12Speaker 1: you have inside, is that you're not you do allow
- 7:15Speaker 1: you never let fear win. And a lot of people
- 7:17Speaker 1: left fear win a change the opportunity. They doubt themselves,
- 7:20Speaker 1: But you didn't doubt yourself. Why not? Well, I knew
- 7:25Speaker 1: going into the industry that I could do it. I
- 7:27Speaker 1: had a background in production, so I was just clear
- 7:32Speaker 1: and faith. I walked out on faith of every decision
- 7:35Speaker 1: I make its faith um experienced though. Let me tell
- 7:39Speaker 1: you I worked with Luther, and Luther was a perfectionist
- 7:43Speaker 1: and I had the y yes he was Excuse me.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I had the pleasure of traveling to Europe with Luthor
- 7:53Speaker 1: as a hospitality director. So I was way in the background.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Lord's the potem pole. But you know what I did.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Let me tell you Rashwan. I attached to myself to
- 8:03Speaker 1: his tour manager and we became best friends, and he
- 8:08Speaker 1: taught me everything. Cath Richards blessed us, so he's not
- 8:10Speaker 1: with us today, but he was excellent and I and
- 8:15Speaker 1: let me tell you, anybody knows anything about Lucive Andros,
- 8:18Speaker 1: they knew that he everything was first class. Everything, his staff,
- 8:21Speaker 1: his tint, it was superb. So I attached myself to
- 8:24Speaker 1: somebody who I knew understood the business. And once I
- 8:27Speaker 1: got the job with Toni Braxton, I was like, I
- 8:29Speaker 1: could do this Richards relationship. Marty, that's what you're talking about,
- 8:36Speaker 1: you know, really interesting when you're talking about this, because
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, she got introduced to this world at first
- 8:41Speaker 1: class level. Luther Andro's career, Uh when she came on board,
- 8:47Speaker 1: three thousand people was a minimum that he will perform
- 8:50Speaker 1: in front of Luther rain drows and and you know,
- 8:55Speaker 1: everything had to be right, the food had He was
- 8:57Speaker 1: a consummate professional, and so when you ACKed in the room,
- 9:00Speaker 1: he was never allowed. You know, his persona, his his brand,
- 9:05Speaker 1: all those things matter to him. And that's why he
- 9:08Speaker 1: had had the career that he had and left us
- 9:11Speaker 1: with the hits that he left us with because he
- 9:13Speaker 1: treated everybody as humans and never saw himself as being
- 9:17Speaker 1: bigger than the moment. And so that was that was like,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you know, that was like a PhD on how to
- 9:23Speaker 1: do a tour right and how to how to treat
- 9:26Speaker 1: people on a tour that you got right is to
- 9:35Speaker 1: keep telling you, girl, I should have met you. Okay, again,
- 9:39Speaker 1: this is Sheryl Carr. I'm talking to Sheryl car. She
- 9:41Speaker 1: has a book called Dirty Little Secrets that nobody wants
- 9:43Speaker 1: to tell you about the entertainment industry. Now this person again,
- 9:49Speaker 1: Luther Van Draws, Hospitality director Tony Bradston, Chante more carry Underwood.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You know American Island Plantation, American Island, Will Diamond, who
- 10:01Speaker 1: I love, who I feel. There's never gotten this due
- 10:03Speaker 1: as a performer or a single. He's just as amazing
- 10:08Speaker 1: as Loosly absolutely in Vogue, Escape all the brad you
- 10:16Speaker 1: know it's this is just a short list of people
- 10:19Speaker 1: that she has uh, she has touched. And when I
- 10:22Speaker 1: say touch, let me just get personal a little bit.
- 10:25Speaker 1: From a manager, management perspective or producer perspective, trance has
- 10:30Speaker 1: to be there. You have to have answers when people
- 10:32Speaker 1: they will come to you for answers and you can't
- 10:34Speaker 1: go huh, you have you better have an answer because
- 10:39Speaker 1: they are depending on you when they wake up, depending
- 10:42Speaker 1: on you. When't you go to sleep? Um? I remember
- 10:45Speaker 1: Steve Harvey shuld always tell me here you know everything?
- 10:47Speaker 1: You know what you're trying to go? Yeah? And even
- 10:53Speaker 1: Sure he was looking at me, go you serious, aren't you? Yes?
- 10:56Speaker 1: I am serious. What you need to know, Steve, I'm
- 10:59Speaker 1: gonna tell you because I'm not gonna sit a bit ja,
- 11:01Speaker 1: I don't know anything. And it was so it was
- 11:03Speaker 1: so funny because I know managed Steven A. Smith Nas
- 11:06Speaker 1: And it was so funny that Steven he called me,
- 11:08Speaker 1: he called me off god he and he asked me
- 11:11Speaker 1: a question. I went, I don't know he went, hold up,
- 11:14Speaker 1: now this needs to make the national news. Rashan McDonald
- 11:18Speaker 1: said he didn't know anything and so and that don
- 11:21Speaker 1: on me out of respect and also out of uh
- 11:24Speaker 1: that people know that about your brand, that they know
- 11:27Speaker 1: they can come to you and get an honest statement
- 11:29Speaker 1: that they know, and that's what you have built in
- 11:32Speaker 1: your life. You don't get all these names associated with
- 11:35Speaker 1: your brand, Siryl, unless you get that reputation of being honest,
- 11:40Speaker 1: get that reputation of being able to deliver. Yes. Yes,
- 11:44Speaker 1: And let me tell you something very interesting that you said.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Being able to be honest is so important and one
- 11:51Speaker 1: of the secrets in my book, I think it's number nine.
- 11:55Speaker 1: It's called Pick your Battles. And what Pick your Battles
- 11:58Speaker 1: explains is is that as a manager, your job is
- 12:02Speaker 1: to advise and to consult. You're not you're not their boss,
- 12:07Speaker 1: and they're not your boss. Your job is to actually
- 12:10Speaker 1: cause when they don't take your advice our consultation, then
- 12:13Speaker 1: your job is no longer needed. So you know, if
- 12:16Speaker 1: I have an artist and I advise them and they
- 12:18Speaker 1: decided not to take my advice, then my advice to
- 12:21Speaker 1: them is do what you need. I'm gonna back you
- 12:25Speaker 1: and we'll find a solution right or wrong. But this
- 12:28Speaker 1: is my advice, and this is what wise counsel is
- 12:31Speaker 1: so important. But at the end of the day, they
- 12:33Speaker 1: make their own decisions and you have to go with it. Absolutely.
- 12:37Speaker 1: It was one of the one of your favorite lines
- 12:39Speaker 1: in this book of you said, you've been fired, rehired,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and quit. You've been fired by some of the best
- 12:45Speaker 1: people in the industry. And it's okay. Now. Yes, the
- 12:49Speaker 1: reason I'm a I'm a slow this down for a
- 12:52Speaker 1: minute because I gotta talk a little racial here, because
- 12:56Speaker 1: I learned this. I learned this in the business, you know,
- 12:59Speaker 1: from from my white counterparts. You know I would they
- 13:03Speaker 1: would get fired. They come in, shake the person's hand,
- 13:07Speaker 1: say thank you for the opportunity, and walk away. And
- 13:12Speaker 1: I've seen my my black counter for mad. But we
- 13:15Speaker 1: all know nobody likes to get fired. Nobody likes to
- 13:17Speaker 1: get You know that that's a bad experience. But but
- 13:20Speaker 1: this is the long run. This is the run. This
- 13:24Speaker 1: is a relationship. How you react because it's a very
- 13:26Speaker 1: small circle. In high the wood, entertainment is a very
- 13:29Speaker 1: small circle. So if you're a fool over here, leave
- 13:33Speaker 1: it they're gonna circulate to everybody real quick. So it's
- 13:36Speaker 1: how you exit, how you exit those dark moments. It's
- 13:40Speaker 1: very key, and it's from a minority perspective. You cannot
- 13:44Speaker 1: take this stuff personal. You cannot. But you know what's
- 13:48Speaker 1: interesting about that, that's a learned behavior too, because nobody
- 13:52Speaker 1: you could work at Walmart, nobody wants to get fired.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And it doesn't feel good under any circumstances, doesn't feel good.
- 14:00Speaker 1: But once you understand the process, and that's this is
- 14:02Speaker 1: why I wrote this book and number You're Gonna Get
- 14:05Speaker 1: Fired is my number one chapter is because you're going
- 14:09Speaker 1: to get fired, and I teach you how to process it.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And there's like four or five little steps that you
- 14:14Speaker 1: have to go to to recovery. And those steps, all
- 14:18Speaker 1: though their small, as you say, little nudgets, they are meaningful.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And when you understand them, and you you begin to
- 14:25Speaker 1: sore because you're going to your next job and you
- 14:27Speaker 1: understand that it's a job and you have to separate
- 14:29Speaker 1: the friendship from the business. And don't go, don't get
- 14:33Speaker 1: you up, don't don't get too far in the book now,
- 14:36Speaker 1: because you're in chapter one and you just slid down
- 14:37Speaker 1: a chapter that now I've read your book. Now you're
- 14:40Speaker 1: gonna go slow. They're gonna mess over me. I We're
- 14:42Speaker 1: gonna We're gonna get this story told correctly on Money
- 14:45Speaker 1: Made Conversation because when she does a chapter, she does
- 14:48Speaker 1: a little a little recap just cause you missed the
- 14:50Speaker 1: nuggets and she's trying to jop drop. In that chapter,
- 14:53Speaker 1: she has a little remind the page, this is what
- 14:55Speaker 1: I talked about decay. You missed it. That way, if
- 14:57Speaker 1: you reading and go I missed that, you go back
- 15:00Speaker 1: and see it. It's finally here the season of celebration,
- 15:04Speaker 1: and no matter how you celebrate with family and friends,

- 17:00Speaker 1: know how that's gonna be our relationship. I don't know
- 17:03Speaker 1: how I missed Sherril carb in Hollywood. She's an entertainment legend.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Please we will be right back with more money making conversations. Hi,
- 17:12Speaker 1: just Sean McDonald. You're listening to money making conversations on
- 17:15Speaker 1: the phone and Sheryl Cobb off air. You know, we're
- 17:17Speaker 1: just talking and just talking like brother and sister. Our
- 17:20Speaker 1: producers say, can we get some of this stuff on
- 17:22Speaker 1: the air. She's the author of the very new new book,
- 17:25Speaker 1: Dirty Little Secrets that nobody wants to tell you about
- 17:28Speaker 1: the entertainment industry. And the thing about it is that
- 17:32Speaker 1: being that I've I've been a successful and still I'm
- 17:35Speaker 1: still as a successful manager, producer, radio, TV. The thing
- 17:39Speaker 1: about it is that being able to talk to somebody
- 17:41Speaker 1: who's been there, done that, it's really refreshing. And I
- 17:45Speaker 1: found that really really refreshing about your book is that
- 17:50Speaker 1: it's very honest and very truthful and putting together a
- 17:53Speaker 1: book like this walk us through the steps, Sheryl, you know,
- 17:59Speaker 1: it's we start with experience, just really experience. And I
- 18:04Speaker 1: was literally I wrote another book, which I'll tell you
- 18:06Speaker 1: about later, when I said, but it's a bigger book,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but this ten dirty Little Secrets is a small book
- 18:13Speaker 1: out of the big book. As I was writing the book,
- 18:15Speaker 1: I was like, he's a nugget that people need to know.
- 18:19Speaker 1: So these were extracted out of my bigger book. And
- 18:22Speaker 1: I decided to releaseys from first because right now, these
- 18:26Speaker 1: kids out here and then also experienced artists that can't
- 18:29Speaker 1: like reboot their careers need to read the books. So
- 18:33Speaker 1: that's how it started, just me going over. I was like,
- 18:36Speaker 1: what are the ten things? Not a lot? There's something simple,
- 18:39Speaker 1: the ten things that I believe people need to know.
- 18:43Speaker 1: And I decided to use the things that affected me most,
- 18:47Speaker 1: which is friendship, business, finance, loyalty, you know, picking your battles,
- 18:59Speaker 1: and then also the ministrative stuff which I'm sure we'll
- 19:01Speaker 1: get into later, and that's called your team. So both
- 19:05Speaker 1: and picking the right team and having the ranking, so
- 19:07Speaker 1: both were like the strongest things I can remember that
- 19:10Speaker 1: will affect every artist, Every last one of these ten
- 19:14Speaker 1: nuggets will affect you no matter who you are. So
- 19:18Speaker 1: that's where the whole, that's where the energy came from.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I know I wanted to stand order, but you brought
- 19:22Speaker 1: up something that I want to keep at the top
- 19:24Speaker 1: of the mind. The team. Who is your team? What
- 19:28Speaker 1: is your team? I remember when I stopped managing Steve Harvey,
- 19:30Speaker 1: and and I was by myself, you know, and I
- 19:35Speaker 1: were trying to figure all this out by myself, and
- 19:38Speaker 1: and and it took me by the year to realize, Rashan,
- 19:42Speaker 1: you were successful with Steve hard for sure, but you
- 19:44Speaker 1: also had a team. And so in seventeen I started
- 19:48Speaker 1: assembling a team around me, people who knew my brand,
- 19:51Speaker 1: who trusted me, had more passion for my brand sometimes
- 19:54Speaker 1: than I had, because because it's important to have people
- 19:56Speaker 1: around you that have passion for your brand, because it
- 20:00Speaker 1: can get tiring. Just keep talking about yourself, keep motivating yourself,
- 20:04Speaker 1: keep moving forward, and they drop some information about you.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Then you go, oh, yeah, I forgot about that. Because
- 20:09Speaker 1: I always tell people, when you keep telling the same story,
- 20:11Speaker 1: you start reshaping it, because out of boarder, you start
- 20:14Speaker 1: changing it, and you start short changing your opportunity, to
- 20:17Speaker 1: short changing the things that you've accomplished because you trying
- 20:20Speaker 1: to keep the story fresh for you. So it's important
- 20:23Speaker 1: to have a team around you that will remind you
- 20:26Speaker 1: of your story, the whole story, and to remind you
- 20:29Speaker 1: of your capability, not a part of your capability, but
- 20:33Speaker 1: your overall results. And that's why I keep reminding of
- 20:36Speaker 1: the relationships that you have, because when you come on Minds,
- 20:39Speaker 1: your money made conversation, I always want to talk about
- 20:42Speaker 1: not with so much what you're doing right now, but
- 20:44Speaker 1: also their journey, because the journey gives you the validation
- 20:48Speaker 1: of why we're talking right now, why you can write
- 20:51Speaker 1: a book like that. If I just start just talking
- 20:53Speaker 1: about this book, people may get lost going I don't know, Well,
- 20:57Speaker 1: who is she? Well, I guess what. I Am about
- 20:59Speaker 1: to tell you who she is. I'm about to tell
- 21:02Speaker 1: you why you should be impressed. I'm gonna tell you
- 21:04Speaker 1: in this book, she talks about her flaws. She talks
- 21:07Speaker 1: about her mistakes. She talks about how she's gotten up
- 21:10Speaker 1: several times, how being fired was attack on her integrity,
- 21:16Speaker 1: how R Kelly's old manager Custa like she was a man.
- 21:20Speaker 1: That was the funniest line in that book. I'm telling something,
- 21:24Speaker 1: you know, it was funny when I read. I laughed.
- 21:30Speaker 1: So I said, I said, I said, sher said, he
- 21:35Speaker 1: cuts me. I like I was a man, Like I
- 21:38Speaker 1: was a man. I was paralyzed, Oh my god, truly paralyzed.
- 21:45Speaker 1: And if I'll tell you if that was a defining
- 21:47Speaker 1: moment for me, because I could have given up at
- 21:51Speaker 1: that point because it didn't feel good and it hurt,
- 21:53Speaker 1: and I was scared. He loved me. He was just
- 21:56Speaker 1: angry with me, and that was that and so you know,
- 21:59Speaker 1: but for me, right, no, no, no, it wasn't right.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It wasn't right. But you know what, I took back
- 22:07Speaker 1: and I'm paralyzed. Let me tell you, I was paralyzed
- 22:09Speaker 1: for a minute. And then I was like, you know what,
- 22:11Speaker 1: he didn't make me. M uh So let's go back
- 22:16Speaker 1: to what I know, because what I know, nobody can
- 22:19Speaker 1: take away from me. So let's take what I know
- 22:21Speaker 1: and let's start there and start over. Something that you
- 22:25Speaker 1: said I don't want to get over is you were
- 22:27Speaker 1: talking about the team, and um, you asked me, how
- 22:31Speaker 1: did I come up with the team, and how did
- 22:33Speaker 1: I recover from being fired or from just tell you this.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I same thing that happened to you happened to me.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And then when you're out there alone on the island,
- 22:44Speaker 1: you start you get depressed. It's easy to get depressed.
- 22:46Speaker 1: It's easy to go Okay, God, I've worked so many
- 22:49Speaker 1: years for this person and I've made them successful, and
- 22:51Speaker 1: here I am alone. So I really started digging deep within.
- 22:55Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna come up
- 22:57Speaker 1: with with a crown fixer. I'm gonna and six. I
- 23:00Speaker 1: need my crown six and I'm gonna fix other people's crown. Okay,
- 23:04Speaker 1: I'm betting on me. Okay, it's time to bet on me.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Those were the things. So I have a good friend.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna give her a shout out because she is
- 23:10Speaker 1: the editor and ghost writer with me on my books.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Her name is Dr Dean Gordon. I promise you this
- 23:15Speaker 1: woman is amazing, she said. I told her I had
- 23:19Speaker 1: a story. She said, come talk to me. I sat
- 23:21Speaker 1: there and I talked to this woman for about three hours,
- 23:24Speaker 1: and the next day she brought the manuscript and I
- 23:26Speaker 1: could believe. She was like, this is your story. You
- 23:29Speaker 1: wrote this. I just typed it and just split it
- 23:31Speaker 1: in order. And that's how we started writing. And we
- 23:35Speaker 1: finished that book and we started on another book. She's
- 23:38Speaker 1: she is like a dream story whisperer. She will take
- 23:42Speaker 1: your stories. You might think your story is one thing,
- 23:45Speaker 1: and then you finished talking to her and you come
- 23:46Speaker 1: out finding out, oh my god, I have a whole
- 23:48Speaker 1: different story in me. So Stan Gordon's stuck with me,
- 23:52Speaker 1: walked with me through the Jeremy pam Brussard's my publicist,
- 23:56Speaker 1: who you know, was an amazing who came to me
- 23:58Speaker 1: and said, you know what, I rusting you. You've brought
- 24:01Speaker 1: me a lot of clients. You've been very loyal to me.
- 24:04Speaker 1: You know what I'm gonna get on your teams. And
- 24:06Speaker 1: then I have a young lady that's been under me,
- 24:09Speaker 1: under my tutelage for years. And the mature Griffin said,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I do social media. I'll do your social media, and
- 24:14Speaker 1: I trust all three of those people, and we put
- 24:16Speaker 1: a team together and if I mean honestly, God said,
- 24:20Speaker 1: right it and I'll do the rest. And now it's
- 24:22Speaker 1: just like take it off and well, you know this
- 24:25Speaker 1: is really is because it's important. And when you talk
- 24:28Speaker 1: about her putting information in that you forgot. That's what
- 24:32Speaker 1: I was talking about. When you were a success and
- 24:34Speaker 1: you don't have a team around you, then you forge
- 24:37Speaker 1: can forget your greatness, You can forget your accomplishments. Because
- 24:41Speaker 1: sometimes I always tell people like, sometimes you gotta have
- 24:44Speaker 1: somebody else brag about you, hype you talk about you.
- 24:47Speaker 1: That's why I love rappers. They started the hype game.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Gotta come out there. I'm gonna tell you would come
- 24:52Speaker 1: out and come out there. But but actually I started
- 24:55Speaker 1: with Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Alias started the hypers. You know,
- 24:59Speaker 1: he started it. You know, somebody coming out there, go
- 25:02Speaker 1: out there and tell everybody how great I am? Why
- 25:04Speaker 1: come out there? Absolutely absolutely there were there were There
- 25:09Speaker 1: were oral publicists. You know, do you know who about
- 25:11Speaker 1: to come on this stage? You were just tell this
- 25:13Speaker 1: bad boy up, the greatest box of all time, the
- 25:16Speaker 1: prettiest box of all time, and so and so that's
- 25:20Speaker 1: what and so when you when you when you do so.
- 25:23Speaker 1: When I was doing stand up comedy as a host,
- 25:25Speaker 1: that's all I was doing. I was as a host,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I was a hype goud. They give me the credits
- 25:29Speaker 1: and I go, Okay, I gotta hype this person up.
- 25:31Speaker 1: So everybody can realize why they should be excited about
- 25:33Speaker 1: this person. So they're laugh at his jokes. Okay, a
- 25:37Speaker 1: singer and things like that. So so so now you
- 25:40Speaker 1: got a team of hype people around. That's all. I
- 25:42Speaker 1: have a team of hype people around because sometimes I
- 25:45Speaker 1: tell things like don't worry about that to go what
- 25:47Speaker 1: do you mean don't worry about that? You have a
- 25:49Speaker 1: degree in mathematics. Oh yeah, okay, that's that's a big deal.
- 25:53Speaker 1: What should put it in your bio? How about working
- 25:55Speaker 1: for working at IBM? That's a big deal. And so
- 25:58Speaker 1: because you start cutting off little slices of your success.
- 26:02Speaker 1: So it's important your book talk about that, and it's
- 26:06Speaker 1: important that you understand the value of having people around
- 26:09Speaker 1: you to promote your brand, support your brand, hype your brand.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That part of the book was so important to me.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Thank you, And did you read the part right after that?
- 26:22Speaker 1: This is loyalty a team, but your team has to
- 26:25Speaker 1: be that person has to be loyal to you as well. Absolutely,
- 26:28Speaker 1: it goes both ways. Absolutely absolutely. I got that tip
- 26:32Speaker 1: from Open Went Free. Well you know again, you know
- 26:37Speaker 1: you went to meet her with Fantasia. Okay, and when
- 26:40Speaker 1: you call girl King makes your girl King, I read
- 26:42Speaker 1: your book, young lady. Just let you know. Sure, I'm
- 26:52Speaker 1: gonna drop a nugget on whatever, because see, so you
- 26:54Speaker 1: have to read the book. It's certain things. When you
- 26:56Speaker 1: read the book, you have to pick up a little nuances.
- 26:58Speaker 1: So so Fantasia wanted open, wanted to talk to Fantasia. Fantasia,
- 27:03Speaker 1: Fantasia Colin Sheryl sa Chryl. I want you to come
- 27:05Speaker 1: with you, come with me to meet with Oprah and
- 27:07Speaker 1: over was her idol. So she wasn't gonna pass up
- 27:10Speaker 1: on the chance to But but you didn't want to
- 27:11Speaker 1: go into a meeting if Gail King wasn't gonna be there.
- 27:14Speaker 1: So you reached out to Gail King, and Gail King
- 27:16Speaker 1: said she's gonna be there. You got to go to
- 27:18Speaker 1: the meeting meet your idol because Gail King was there,
- 27:20Speaker 1: because that was a relationship you had built along the way.
- 27:23Speaker 1: And life is a wonderful thing. I read you and
- 27:26Speaker 1: so when I tell people go read your book, okay,
- 27:29Speaker 1: they should read your book. That story we're gonna leave
- 27:32Speaker 1: people to read because it's a great It was. So
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's so inspiring what she taught and what she said.
- 27:39Speaker 1: She heals me with fantage. I just happened to be collateral.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I just have to be there, you know, And so
- 27:45Speaker 1: I was able to take it absorbed. I was in
- 27:48Speaker 1: the meeting, and then I stepped out and let them
- 27:50Speaker 1: have a private meeting. But the but the beginning of
- 27:52Speaker 1: that meeting was so powerful and what she said stuck
- 27:55Speaker 1: with me, and I had to tell that story absolutely.
- 27:58Speaker 1: There another story you're telling the book is body your
- 28:00Speaker 1: relationship with R Kelly or Robert Kelly. You don't need
- 28:03Speaker 1: to Robert Kelly, Okay, And then you say this and
- 28:06Speaker 1: that I took this other book it has been uh,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I've been uh. He never tried to sleep with me
- 28:12Speaker 1: and treated me like a princess. A lot of people
- 28:14Speaker 1: may not like that I'm writing this, but every situation
- 28:17Speaker 1: is different. I only knew that version of R. Kelly
- 28:20Speaker 1: or Robert Kelly. That's what you call it, Robert because
- 28:23Speaker 1: because of the fact that we all know what's going
- 28:24Speaker 1: on in the media right now. But that's but you
- 28:27Speaker 1: can't deny the relationship and the positive impact that that
- 28:31Speaker 1: relationship had in your life. And you mentioned that in
- 28:35Speaker 1: the book, but you still felt it had value to
- 28:37Speaker 1: your story. Correct it was so important, and people warned
- 28:42Speaker 1: me about mentioning it, but I was like, I'm not ashamed.
- 28:45Speaker 1: It's a part of my journey when I worked with him,
- 28:48Speaker 1: And it'll tell you in the book Little Interscope, I
- 28:51Speaker 1: worked with Jimmy, I beante stout were I ran just
- 28:55Speaker 1: recrod label and so I didn't run to the gym
- 28:59Speaker 1: and play basketball. And in liqus private life, so you
- 29:03Speaker 1: can work with somebody and have absolutely no idea about
- 29:08Speaker 1: what they're doing in their private life. So I was
- 29:12Speaker 1: astonished and still am. I'm just hurt beyond measure because
- 29:16Speaker 1: you know, and you know, everybody gets there day in course,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but my journey, my experience was not a bad experience.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So I had to put it in there because it's fair.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And you'll notice in the book I throw myself under
- 29:28Speaker 1: the bus several times because I have to tell the
- 29:31Speaker 1: truth about the journey because no matter who you work with,
- 29:34Speaker 1: good or bad, sometimes you know, I have had clients
- 29:37Speaker 1: to file bankruptcy. I was right there. I had clients
- 29:41Speaker 1: who who's had you know, And I never tell anybody's
- 29:44Speaker 1: private business in the book, I tell my private business absolutely,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and that's and that was that was fine with me,
- 29:49Speaker 1: like I said, but this part of the book I
- 29:51Speaker 1: thought was important because if relationships with hor Makus and
- 29:56Speaker 1: so good are bad, and so I felt it was
- 29:59Speaker 1: very courageous moment for you because you could took it
- 30:01Speaker 1: an easy road out and say, I'm not leaving this
- 30:04Speaker 1: part of it. I'm just gonna talk about this. But
- 30:06Speaker 1: you're talking about dirty little secrets and entertainment industry, and
- 30:09Speaker 1: some of these secrets are about people who you work with,
- 30:13Speaker 1: people who you do business with, and but how do
- 30:16Speaker 1: you act there's no different than I'm not trying to
- 30:18Speaker 1: go into that next level. It's a lot of people
- 30:19Speaker 1: did business with Harvey Wayne Stein Weinstein. So so that's
- 30:23Speaker 1: that's a dirty little secret that now he's in he's
- 30:26Speaker 1: been committed to twenty three years of incarceration based on
- 30:29Speaker 1: that verdict. And so but in your book, it's so
- 30:32Speaker 1: many it's about relationship you talk about, it's about being fired,
- 30:35Speaker 1: It's about the team you put around you. It's about
- 30:36Speaker 1: the people, because the team is the key at that point. Now,
- 30:40Speaker 1: because the fact that you have people around you to
- 30:43Speaker 1: tell you I wouldn't do that, I would, I would,
- 30:45Speaker 1: I would avoid those relationships is not something you should
- 30:50Speaker 1: have on your resume. But those are the things that
- 30:53Speaker 1: we deal in life. But you're telling this story is
- 30:55Speaker 1: a great book. Cheryl, tell us how we get the book, because,
- 30:59Speaker 1: as you can see, and I've enjoyed the book, I've
- 31:02Speaker 1: lived that life as a manager, as a producer. You've
- 31:05Speaker 1: dropped some nuggets on me. But more importantly, the nuggets
- 31:08Speaker 1: that you're dropping in the book are relatable to everyday people. Well,
- 31:13Speaker 1: you can have two things. Let me just say this.
- 31:15Speaker 1: It has been such a pleasure talking to you. It's
- 31:17Speaker 1: like I know you brought my brother, and the honor
- 31:21Speaker 1: of it is that you understanding. You clearly see it
- 31:25Speaker 1: because you had the same experiences. So I love that
- 31:29Speaker 1: and I love talking to you. And when we get
- 31:30Speaker 1: off this line, we're gonna talk to a little bit more.
- 31:34Speaker 1: But you can get the book. It's everywhere, um ten
- 31:38Speaker 1: Dirty Little Secrets dot Com. Go in pitch the buttons

- 32:06Speaker 1: was the reality show that you would do with Shanta
- 32:08Speaker 1: Moore and and oh my god, oh my god, it's
- 32:15Speaker 1: because I've been there. I've been there. You know, they
- 32:17Speaker 1: tell you one thing and they get you out there
- 32:19Speaker 1: and we're gonna that that's not working for us. We
- 32:22Speaker 1: gotta we gotta turn up the volume. We gotta turn
- 32:24Speaker 1: up the drama. This is not gonna be uh, this
- 32:26Speaker 1: little nice story we told you guys were gonna do.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And then you gotta protect your brain, you gotta protect
- 32:30Speaker 1: your people, gotta protect you. And then something and you
- 32:34Speaker 1: do it too quick and blow up in front of
- 32:36Speaker 1: you and you just have to just take it. And
- 32:38Speaker 1: that's how people can manipulate you in this business. And
- 32:41Speaker 1: those are the dirty little secrets that she's talking about
- 32:43Speaker 1: in the book. You know, is that just because you
- 32:45Speaker 1: signed up to do something doesn't mean that's going to
- 32:46Speaker 1: be the final story. Absolutely, and that is that That's
