- 1:35Speaker 1: up but she's married to a doctor. Dr Simone Whitmore
- 1:38Speaker 1: is on my show to talk about a COVID eight
- 1:40Speaker 1: team as civil unrest. That's an erring on the season
- 1:43Speaker 1: that she's experienced personally as well and the upcoming season
- 1:47Speaker 1: of marriage, which is the eighth seeding, the marriage to
- 1:49Speaker 1: medicine and the realities of being a real doctor on
- 1:52Speaker 1: a reality show, Please work on Monday, making a conversation
- 1:55Speaker 1: for the very first time. I'm happy to have her
- 1:56Speaker 1: on the show. Dr Simone Whitmore, how are you doing
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'm doing excellent, and thank you so much for having me.
- 2:04Speaker 1: First of all, thank you for coming on the show.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And uh, you know, the reality shows at one time
- 2:09Speaker 1: would considered I thought it would be a fad. I
- 2:11Speaker 1: thought they wouldn't last. And at one time there was
- 2:14Speaker 1: really out of control. They were physically out of control
- 2:16Speaker 1: and a lot of a lot of noise, like of cussing,
- 2:19Speaker 1: a lot of fussing, a lot of drink throwing. And
- 2:21Speaker 1: you decided to a being a certified doctor into this room.
- 2:26Speaker 1: What what drove you or what was the motivation behind
- 2:29Speaker 1: being a part of Married to Medicine. The reason I
- 2:33Speaker 1: was willing to film reality TV is because I felt
- 2:37Speaker 1: that little black girls in America needed to see somebody
- 2:42Speaker 1: that didn't come from money. I came from an alcoholic dad,
- 2:46Speaker 1: a single mom, and I know how to have a
- 2:52Speaker 1: good time and live my life without the white coat.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And I wanted little brown girls in America to see
- 3:00Speaker 1: that if I did it, she can do it too. Well.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You know you are doing that. It's in this an
- 3:05Speaker 1: eight season and it's all about branding too and always
- 3:08Speaker 1: about what people think of you, and that this is
- 3:11Speaker 1: not a negative interview. These are just basic questions and
- 3:14Speaker 1: that I'm just probing and just trying to get your
- 3:16Speaker 1: story out because I think it's a really great story.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I've watched and I've watched the show offered on over
- 3:22Speaker 1: the years, and my background is casting and producing, so
- 3:25Speaker 1: I'm very familiar with your talents and a lot of
- 3:27Speaker 1: your cast member quite where Up has been on my
- 3:29Speaker 1: show several times. I'm a big fan of hers and so.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But when you're when you're practicing doctor like you are,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and you're on the reality show, does it and you
- 3:37Speaker 1: have a practice, does it ever become an issue with
- 3:40Speaker 1: the people that you are, that you are, that are
- 3:43Speaker 1: your patients. So most of my patients who have been
- 3:47Speaker 1: with me for years, they know who I am. I
- 3:51Speaker 1: may say a little mild cuss word in the office
- 3:55Speaker 1: trying to be funny, and my patients understand me. When
- 3:59Speaker 1: I came to reality TV, I came as my authentic self,
- 4:05Speaker 1: no more, no less, just my authentic self. And what
- 4:10Speaker 1: is your authentic self? I'm just asking. I love medicine,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I love O B G. Y N. But I also
- 4:17Speaker 1: like to have a good time, hang out shop, have
- 4:21Speaker 1: a cocktail hour, and I love the lab. Well, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I think you're thinking, hear what you're saying. You want
- 4:29Speaker 1: to break the stereotype, or if there is a stereotype,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you want to say, this is me, and it's all
- 4:33Speaker 1: right to be me with no with no um. I
- 4:36Speaker 1: guess you know. Standards are are because some people kind
- 4:39Speaker 1: of put people on pedestals. And I think that's what
- 4:41Speaker 1: you're saying that please look at me. I'm Dr Samone
- 4:45Speaker 1: with Moore, I am I am board certified, I am successful,
- 4:48Speaker 1: I'm happily married. I have a son about to go
- 4:50Speaker 1: to college. He's living a good life, and I live
- 4:53Speaker 1: in a beautiful home. Why can't I be me? Why
- 4:56Speaker 1: can't I be Why can't I dress this way and
- 4:59Speaker 1: this fast and fashion savvy? Why can't I eat this way?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Why can't that laugh out lot in public? So in
- 5:04Speaker 1: your sense, you're feeling that there are certain standards that
- 5:07Speaker 1: people hold doctors to that should be pulled down or accepted,
- 5:10Speaker 1: that it's all right to be a human being. Not
- 5:14Speaker 1: to say that any standard that we have or the
- 5:18Speaker 1: way we see our doctors should be pulled down, but
- 5:22Speaker 1: they should be humanized. Man, we are human first, and
- 5:26Speaker 1: I have that doctor before my name. Now I have
- 5:30Speaker 1: that m D after my name, but it's not on
- 5:32Speaker 1: my birth certificate. It does not define who I am.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'm a wife, I'm a mother, I'm a sister, I'm
- 5:40Speaker 1: a girlfriend. And again, life is about being well rounded.
- 5:47Speaker 1: My dad always taught me that be well rounded. Well,
- 5:50Speaker 1: you know the thing I got that impression of you,
- 5:53Speaker 1: uh and the first episode of the eighth season, which
- 5:55Speaker 1: I did get a chance to see because I want
- 5:57Speaker 1: to make sure I was caught up to speed on
- 5:59Speaker 1: where the character's being developed, and first of the first
- 6:02Speaker 1: basically the first episode is your episode. Like I said,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you joked off air and said, you know you start
- 6:06Speaker 1: why not? And so it ended with you and you
- 6:09Speaker 1: and coming down You're Jackie still got issues, heavenly got issues.
- 6:15Speaker 1: You know, You're son about to go off to college.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But I thought that was a real tender moment in there,
- 6:19Speaker 1: your conversation with your son about racism, you know, because
- 6:22Speaker 1: that's a reality that you know. I have a daughter,
- 6:25Speaker 1: she's uh, you know, she's in college, and but even
- 6:28Speaker 1: having a young African American male that has to be
- 6:31Speaker 1: even more stressful knowing he's going to an environment that
- 6:34Speaker 1: may have seeds of racism. Talk about that and we're
- 6:37Speaker 1: just talking about parenting. That's when you or not we're
- 6:39Speaker 1: both parents. But you had a conversation with your son,
- 6:42Speaker 1: how do you feel? And you know, lights on on
- 6:45Speaker 1: and lights like I felt that was a real conversation,
- 6:48Speaker 1: was happing with him. But that still has to be
- 6:50Speaker 1: some hesitation about him walking out that door. And because
- 6:54Speaker 1: you want him to come home. You wanted to when
- 6:55Speaker 1: you when you call that phone, you wanted to answer.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You wanted to be there when he's happy. You want
- 6:59Speaker 1: to be there when you said, but you want to
- 7:01Speaker 1: be there when somebody is doing it wrong because you
- 7:03Speaker 1: didn't put eighteen years of your life into him or
- 7:05Speaker 1: bring him into this world for ignorance to step into,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know, shortening his life or causing difficulty in his life.
- 7:14Speaker 1: We've always taught our sons to respect authority, to not
- 7:19Speaker 1: run your mouth, not to talk back when a police
- 7:24Speaker 1: or a teacher or any of those is talking to you.
- 7:28Speaker 1: But one of the most important things we try to
- 7:31Speaker 1: teach our sons do not have an encounter with the police.
- 7:36Speaker 1: So it means abiding by the law, not speeding when
- 7:40Speaker 1: you're driving down the highway. And we had always thought
- 7:45Speaker 1: if we taught our boys be respectful, follow the rules,
- 7:50Speaker 1: that they would always come home. And George Floyd that
- 7:56Speaker 1: video last year showed us that you don't have to
- 8:00Speaker 1: be doing anything illegal, you don't have to be running,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you don't have to be talking back, and you could
- 8:08Speaker 1: still lose your life based on someone else's perception of
- 8:14Speaker 1: what they think a black man is. And that's you know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: being a black man. And I think then you and
- 8:20Speaker 1: and and at the end of the premier episode of
- 8:22Speaker 1: the eighth season they do the fellas get around talking about,
- 8:26Speaker 1: you know, being pulled over being a black man in America.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The reality is that you are raising a young black
- 8:33Speaker 1: man in America and he's going to a school. Tell
- 8:37Speaker 1: us about the school that he's going to, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 1: not in the environment, and how what makes you feel
- 8:41Speaker 1: comfortable about him going because he has to feel comfortable
- 8:44Speaker 1: he's going, okay, but what also is making you feel
- 8:46Speaker 1: uncomfortable about the environment that he's going to. So the
- 8:50Speaker 1: school is Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. Cleveland, Tennessee is
- 8:56Speaker 1: a small town and tennis See that's near Chattanooga. But
- 9:03Speaker 1: I just remember that during the pandemic the school was closed.
- 9:07Speaker 1: We drove up to Cleveland, Tennessee, just to drive around
- 9:11Speaker 1: the campus to see what it was like, since he
- 9:13Speaker 1: didn't get the traditional tour with school open. And I
- 9:17Speaker 1: just remember as we're driving through this small town of Cleveland,
- 9:22Speaker 1: seeing all of the Confederate flags. So when I saw those,
- 9:29Speaker 1: of course I became concerned. Downtown Cleveland has a Confederate
- 9:34Speaker 1: monument which is walking This is from the school, and
- 9:39Speaker 1: it's a small school, majority white. It's a Christian school.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And the reason we were willing to take the chance
- 9:48Speaker 1: for him to go to the university. Number one, you
- 9:52Speaker 1: just hope, you really hope that people who are claiming
- 9:56Speaker 1: to be Christians somehow that God is touching their minds,
- 10:01Speaker 1: their souls, their bodies to really live a Christian life.
- 10:05Speaker 1: But you know, there were some other basketball players whom
- 10:09Speaker 1: he had spoken with over the summer who had not
- 10:12Speaker 1: had any racial encounters, and we're not having any difficult
- 10:16Speaker 1: time on campus. Is the reason we decided that it
- 10:19Speaker 1: would be okay for him to attend Lee University. You know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: the interesting thing about it is that this is part
- 10:25Speaker 1: of married to medicine. This is a part of the
- 10:27Speaker 1: lessons of life, lesson that are relatable to it because
- 10:30Speaker 1: this that that storyline was relatable to me. My daughter was,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know, um a tennis phenomen at sixteen, and so
- 10:37Speaker 1: she was going out there playing. Then she blew out
- 10:39Speaker 1: her knee in nineteen and now she's in college and
- 10:41Speaker 1: very happy for her. But the reality is that where
- 10:45Speaker 1: can you send your Sunday He won't experience racism indirectly
- 10:49Speaker 1: or directly, you feel me. So, so you're you're basically
- 10:53Speaker 1: and you're and your husband basically saying, yes, we're uncomfortable,
- 10:56Speaker 1: but this is life. You know. We hope we've raised them.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And I'm not putting any words in your mouth. I'm
- 11:01Speaker 1: just talking like a parent that hopefully we raised it
- 11:04Speaker 1: with the values like you told him. You know, if
- 11:06Speaker 1: it's just a thirty or five drive, thirt or five son, okay,
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, a void ignorant for a cop pulls you over,
- 11:11Speaker 1: tend to understand world, say yes or no, sir till
- 11:13Speaker 1: you get out the car. Get out the car. Don't
- 11:15Speaker 1: be playing loud music unnecessarily. So these are the rules
- 11:18Speaker 1: that we lived by because of the color of our skin.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And like you said, all America, all of America, because
- 11:24Speaker 1: it was involved and it was in the uproar, including
- 11:26Speaker 1: white people when they finally saw and that's I think
- 11:28Speaker 1: that we all were happy, finally when you saw that
- 11:31Speaker 1: on top of COVID. Because you are a legitimate doctor,
- 11:34Speaker 1: how does that affect your practice and also your daily
- 11:37Speaker 1: life when COVID came on top of it reality because
- 11:40Speaker 1: we all thought Kobe was gonna be a couple of months,
- 11:42Speaker 1: we were turned to normal. It's not right. Working in
- 11:47Speaker 1: the medical field during a pandemic has been an interesting thing,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you know, continually. I don't work in fear at all,
- 11:56Speaker 1: but just trying to make sure that I stay up
- 12:01Speaker 1: to date and educated on this virus because it felt
- 12:05Speaker 1: like it was changing. Things were changing in the medical
- 12:08Speaker 1: field week by week early on, and just making sure
- 12:12Speaker 1: that I updating my patients and encouraged them to stay safe.
- 12:16Speaker 1: You know, I have pregnantatients during this time, and I
- 12:20Speaker 1: don't want to see them sick. And sometimes the young
- 12:24Speaker 1: people are a little harder to convince that the virus
- 12:28Speaker 1: is real and deadly. It's finally here the season of celebration,
- 12:33Speaker 1: and no matter how you celebrate with family and friends,
- 12:36Speaker 1: whether you're preparing for reys magos or karamu lighting the
- 12:40Speaker 1: Manura are going to Midnight Mass. Coals has just what
- 12:43Speaker 1: you need to make those traditions special. Plus you'll find

- 12:58Speaker 1: shame moisture, or treat them to everyone's favorite active war
- 13:02Speaker 1: from top brands like Nike, Adidas, and under Armour. And
- 13:06Speaker 1: in the spirit of giving, Coals Cares is donating eight
- 13:09Speaker 1: million dollars to local nonprofits nationwide committed to the health
- 13:13Speaker 1: and well being of our communities. No matter how you celebrate,
- 13:17Speaker 1: when you shop at Coals, you're right where you belong.

- 13:23Speaker 1: gifts from Coals or Coals dot com. If I could
- 13:26Speaker 1: be you and you could be me for just one hour,
- 13:30Speaker 1: if you could find a way to get inside each
- 13:32Speaker 1: other's mind, walcome mile in my shoes, wacome mile in
- 13:36Speaker 1: my shoes Shoes. We've all felt left out, and for
- 13:41Speaker 1: some that feeling lasts more than a moment. We can
- 13:45Speaker 1: change that. Learn how it Belonging begins with us dot org.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Brought to you by the ACT Council. Alcome mile and machine.
- 13:56Speaker 1: What grows in the forest trees? Sure you know what else?
- 14:00Speaker 1: Girls in the forest, our imagination, our sense of wonder,
- 14:04Speaker 1: and our family bonds grow too, because when we disconnect
- 14:07Speaker 1: from this and connect with this, we reconnect with each other.
- 14:15Speaker 1: The forest is closer than you think. Find a forest
- 14:18Speaker 1: near you and start exploring. I discover the Forest dot Org,
- 14:22Speaker 1: brought to you by the United States Forest Service and
- 14:24Speaker 1: the AD Council. Well, isn't it what we all immortal
- 14:29Speaker 1: when we were that age? You know? We get safe
- 14:31Speaker 1: and get up. You know, I should tell friends, you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: I should get a flu I go play a game
- 14:35Speaker 1: of basketball, and they say, sweat it out of me,
- 14:37Speaker 1: And so I'm trying to sweat it out of me
- 14:39Speaker 1: now because I'll be laying on the court doc you know.
- 14:44Speaker 1: But the beauty of this show is that you have friends.
- 14:47Speaker 1: You know, one of your friends and this was one
- 14:49Speaker 1: of the lead storylines of the opening season was your
- 14:53Speaker 1: friendship with Jackie twenty three years in And I'll just
- 14:57Speaker 1: let you know that in the in the opening episode,
- 15:00Speaker 1: Jackie was constantly talking about getting back with you, talking
- 15:04Speaker 1: about I just want to reconcile, and then they showed
- 15:07Speaker 1: you constantly, never saying that they well, you know, I
- 15:12Speaker 1: don't know what it is what it is, and you know,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and as a producer and an editor, I know they
- 15:17Speaker 1: could play characters to develop storylines. And so this is
- 15:20Speaker 1: a person you've known betweent three years. She's an original
- 15:22Speaker 1: member of the show, along with yourself. Where do you
- 15:25Speaker 1: go when you see these storylines being developed? And we're
- 15:28Speaker 1: gonna get to Heavenly in a minute. But I want
- 15:30Speaker 1: to talk about the friendship of Jackie and Simone m
- 15:35Speaker 1: So I again, I come to reality TV as my
- 15:39Speaker 1: authentic self. I'm not going to fake a friendship. I
- 15:44Speaker 1: am not going to pretend to make up unless my
- 15:47Speaker 1: heart is really in it, right. And Jackie and I
- 15:51Speaker 1: have known each other a very long time, and of
- 15:54Speaker 1: all the cast on this show, she knows me the best.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I know her the best. And I did not want
- 16:04Speaker 1: to make up for TV's sake. I just wasn't interested
- 16:10Speaker 1: either we were going to have a genuine sit down
- 16:14Speaker 1: conversation or not. But I didn't want to make up
- 16:17Speaker 1: just for TV's sake. And I'm just asking now, I
- 16:20Speaker 1: don't know that I'm just asking, So, what is makeup
- 16:23Speaker 1: for TV sake versus having a genuine sit down? Would
- 16:27Speaker 1: it be on camera or would it be off camera
- 16:30Speaker 1: between you and jack Um? It could be either one
- 16:33Speaker 1: quite frankly, because again I'm going to express my real
- 16:37Speaker 1: thoughts and opinions. And it doesn't matter whether a camera
- 16:41Speaker 1: is rolling or not. When you say true to who
- 16:44Speaker 1: you are, it doesn't matter whether a camera is present
- 16:47Speaker 1: or not. Well, you're showing that. Now, You're shown that.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Now heavenly? How is heavenly? She was a dentist, you know,
- 16:55Speaker 1: y'all y'all joke about that a lot throughout the seasons,
- 16:57Speaker 1: though we just said Dr dan Is. Even Anila came
- 17:01Speaker 1: in cracking jokes. Jo, She's a blogger, Okay, gonna crack
- 17:05Speaker 1: jokes on the dentist. Um, So how does she get
- 17:09Speaker 1: in between the two of you? Guys? Did I miss
- 17:12Speaker 1: that episode? Well? So, in actual in actuality, I don't
- 17:19Speaker 1: think that Heavenly came between me and Jackie. And that
- 17:23Speaker 1: is how I felt last year. But in the pandemic,
- 17:27Speaker 1: I spent more time at home. I was able to
- 17:30Speaker 1: think about things and get my feelings in check, if
- 17:35Speaker 1: you will, and basically, I mean Heavily and I have
- 17:40Speaker 1: gone back and forth, back and forth, getting along not
- 17:43Speaker 1: getting along over the years since she started the show
- 17:46Speaker 1: on season two. As a matter of fact, she hated
- 17:51Speaker 1: me and Jackie when she started, we hated her. The
- 17:54Speaker 1: feeling was mutual, but over the years we had all
- 17:58Speaker 1: grown to be come close friends. But Heaviley and I
- 18:02Speaker 1: would get into it one top for a couple of
- 18:05Speaker 1: months on in our camera, and Jackie always gave me
- 18:10Speaker 1: her thoughts and opinions. She would tell me, I think
- 18:15Speaker 1: you shouldn't even be taking this stuff, Heavily saying too serious,
- 18:19Speaker 1: You shouldn't be doing this, or you should be doing that,
- 18:22Speaker 1: And she always talked to both of us. This time,
- 18:27Speaker 1: my friend of twenty three years decided she didn't have
- 18:31Speaker 1: any words on it because I guess she didn't want
- 18:34Speaker 1: to hurt my feelings. But she knows me. She had
- 18:38Speaker 1: never been her tongue before, and you know that expression,
- 18:43Speaker 1: cat got your tongue, I'll just leave you with the cash. Well,
- 18:47Speaker 1: you know, when y'all didn't have to sit down when
- 18:49Speaker 1: she said that she was gonna be it was on
- 18:52Speaker 1: camera that she didn't want to make a decision. She
- 18:54Speaker 1: want to make it and then you took that very personal.
- 18:57Speaker 1: And so I see, now you know Dr helth A Le,
- 19:00Speaker 1: who is a dentist, by the way, is uh is
- 19:03Speaker 1: reveling in this breakup. I think she's reveling and driving
- 19:06Speaker 1: a wage between the relationship and personally and I persually,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I don't think Jackie sees that. Am I correcting assuming
- 19:13Speaker 1: that I think Jackie is not eve or she's or
- 19:16Speaker 1: she has developed a wall of stubbornness just to say
- 19:21Speaker 1: that she's not gonna be bothered. So I don't think.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I definitely think Jackie is aware of what Heavenly is doing.
- 19:31Speaker 1: But Heavenly is also Jackie's bulldog, right, and so maybe
- 19:38Speaker 1: that is just a strategy that you'd rather have this
- 19:41Speaker 1: bulldog who defends you. Even on the days you're wrong,
- 19:46Speaker 1: She's still defending you with An interesting thing about my
- 19:50Speaker 1: show is called money Making Conversation. You are an entrepreneur
- 19:53Speaker 1: or small business, let's talk about that whole process of
- 19:56Speaker 1: dealing with because people want to hear theyboy show by
- 19:59Speaker 1: that what would you give and old starting to practice?
- 20:02Speaker 1: How would you hire people? I always tell people you
- 20:05Speaker 1: gotta have a great hr person when you gotta have
- 20:08Speaker 1: a great accountant. That's my early notes to anybody is
- 20:10Speaker 1: starting to start, especially accountant. Don't be sitting over there
- 20:12Speaker 1: talking to trying to do books about yourself and you've
- 20:14Speaker 1: never done books before. So as a as a as
- 20:18Speaker 1: an entrepreneur who start up because you represent you know,
- 20:21Speaker 1: the fastest growing population and entrepreneurship or African American females.
- 20:25Speaker 1: And you are an African American female, you are star,
- 20:27Speaker 1: you are brand. Talk about being a small business owner
- 20:31Speaker 1: just when you started, but also now doing COVID nineteen.
- 20:35Speaker 1: What I would talk, what I would recommend for anybody
- 20:39Speaker 1: who is starting a business, do as much research as
- 20:44Speaker 1: you possibly can before you start your business. Know the
- 20:48Speaker 1: industry you're going into. Know some of the pitfalls of
- 20:52Speaker 1: the industry you're going into. And for me, I was
- 20:56Speaker 1: already practicing medicine before I opened up a business. You
- 21:02Speaker 1: can't even imagine how hard it's going to be until
- 21:06Speaker 1: you actually open those doors. But I do agree with
- 21:10Speaker 1: you that you have to have an accountant who gives
- 21:14Speaker 1: you advice regularly. And what I like to say is
- 21:18Speaker 1: count all your pennies, look for your pennies, figure out
- 21:22Speaker 1: ways when you're buying supplies that you could save money
- 21:26Speaker 1: because you may be only buying from this supplier, but
- 21:31Speaker 1: then somebody over here has a cheaper Learn how to
- 21:34Speaker 1: build relationships so that when you need help you can
- 21:38Speaker 1: get help. You need a banking relationship, that relationship with
- 21:43Speaker 1: an accountant. You need relationships with people in the industry
- 21:48Speaker 1: who are doing the exact same thing you're doing, just
- 21:51Speaker 1: to get advice on the pitfalls when they actually happen,
- 21:56Speaker 1: how to get out of those pitfalls, and just know
- 22:00Speaker 1: that no matter what happens, you can always depend on
- 22:04Speaker 1: yourself in business for yourself. There you go. Now, when
- 22:08Speaker 1: one going closing question is about you didn't plan on
- 22:11Speaker 1: because we talked about budget, you said, always count your pinions,
- 22:14Speaker 1: no where every penny is. We did not think, and
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm saying I'm a business owner. I did not see
- 22:18Speaker 1: masking my budget. I didn't see hand sanitizing my budget.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I didn't see working from home and my budget and
- 22:25Speaker 1: telling medicine. I'm sure we'll picked up strongly in your business.
- 22:29Speaker 1: But like I said, you're dealing with with you know
- 22:31Speaker 1: O B. G Ryan profession, So tell the medicine almost
- 22:33Speaker 1: like what is that? So how did that affect your
- 22:37Speaker 1: business model and also your employees. How did you work
- 22:41Speaker 1: through that? Like I was able to do teleconferencing because
- 22:44Speaker 1: I'm just dealing with graphics and a production company, But
- 22:47Speaker 1: you're in medicine. How did you deal with that? And
- 22:49Speaker 1: how did your patients deal with that? So definitely finding
- 22:54Speaker 1: PPE to purchase and purchasing PPE wasn't an additional expan
- 23:00Speaker 1: But what I tell any anybody who's in business for themselves,
- 23:05Speaker 1: always save for a rainy day, because if you have savings,
- 23:09Speaker 1: when you run into these additional expenses, it just shouldn't
- 23:13Speaker 1: be that big of a deal. So you either have
- 23:15Speaker 1: the savings or you have a credit line with the
- 23:18Speaker 1: bank available to help you in a in a financial needs.
- 23:24Speaker 1: But with staff, I tried to stay calm and try
- 23:28Speaker 1: to reassure them. For me, with pregnant patients, I was
- 23:32Speaker 1: not able to do all of the visits using telemedicine.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Surely we did some, but not all. And what I
- 23:41Speaker 1: did was we continue to come to the office. We
- 23:46Speaker 1: shortened the office hours, and I continue to make payroll
- 23:50Speaker 1: for the full forty hours a week. But again, just
- 23:54Speaker 1: looking for resources out there. There were a ton of
- 23:57Speaker 1: resources available to all businesses. I applied for the P
- 24:02Speaker 1: P P loan. My big bank didn't give it to me,
- 24:05Speaker 1: so I went to my small bank. And again I
- 24:09Speaker 1: have two banks. I have the big bank, I have
- 24:12Speaker 1: the small bank. Nobody told me to do it that way.
- 24:16Speaker 1: That is just one of those life lessons that I
- 24:20Speaker 1: learned early on in practice. And I've been in solo
- 24:23Speaker 1: practice since two thousand four. So you learn things, and
- 24:28Speaker 1: there are always gonna be hiccups and speed bumps. You
- 24:31Speaker 1: just have to learn something from every speed bump in
- 24:36Speaker 1: the road. Well, you know, I gotta close, and I
- 24:39Speaker 1: said my last question, but I have to bring this
- 24:40Speaker 1: up because my wife is important in my life. You know,
- 24:44Speaker 1: when those speed bumps. As you're talking about those speed bumps,
- 24:47Speaker 1: you gotta turn to somebody for some truth and sometimes
- 24:50Speaker 1: for some advice. Sometimes that truth is not what you
- 24:52Speaker 1: want to hear, but it also comes with good advice
- 24:55Speaker 1: because you know that person is gonna be honest with you.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So I'm leaving my question to your husband, who plays
- 24:59Speaker 1: on an amazing support the role. I'm gonna just tell you, doctor,
- 25:02Speaker 1: I'm I'm a fan of yours. I've always been a
- 25:05Speaker 1: fan of yours. And when you had that conversation with
- 25:06Speaker 1: your son when he was shooting the basketball. I was
- 25:09Speaker 1: over the roof with you because that was pure. That
- 25:12Speaker 1: was pure, honestly to me, you know, because it was
- 25:14Speaker 1: relatable to me, and uh and it and it and it,
- 25:17Speaker 1: and it was a seed that bore out of your
- 25:19Speaker 1: husband being there, because African American young men need that male,
- 25:23Speaker 1: that male. Look how to treat women, Look how what
- 25:26Speaker 1: you do in all these different situations. To talk about
- 25:29Speaker 1: your strong support group. You know, my man talked about
- 25:33Speaker 1: him right quick before we close it out. So Cecil
- 25:36Speaker 1: and I have been married for twenty five years and
- 25:39Speaker 1: he has definitely been a great sounding board when I've
- 25:43Speaker 1: asked him about business advice and he loves to do research.
- 25:49Speaker 1: But as any marriage goals, we have certainly had our struggles.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Our marriage actually came to the brink of the brink
- 25:59Speaker 1: of a divorce, which I shared on reality TV, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: I was so thankful for this reality TV family who
- 26:08Speaker 1: helped us to realize that we were being stubborn. We
- 26:11Speaker 1: had stopped listening to one another, and we were able
- 26:15Speaker 1: not only to reconcile, but to make some differences in
- 26:20Speaker 1: our marriage so that we could keep on going in
- 26:23Speaker 1: and not just keep going, but keep going strong with
- 26:26Speaker 1: my friend. Thank you for coming on money Making Conversations.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I just want to really lay it on the line
- 26:30Speaker 1: because I know you do a lot of interviews, and
- 26:33Speaker 1: I try not to be fake when I bring people.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I try to do my research, I try to acknowledge
- 26:36Speaker 1: the fact, and I try to give good questions to
- 26:39Speaker 1: allow you to move the conversation forward. But more importantly,
- 26:42Speaker 1: I only want people in my shot. I want to
- 26:43Speaker 1: talk to so and I definitely wanted to having me.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I want to thank you for taking the time to
- 26:48Speaker 1: coming on money Making Conversations, and good luck you all
