- 2:45Speaker 1: my favorites Man. He was on the show about a
- 2:48Speaker 1: year and a half ago. Molly Music. He's a gospel
- 2:50Speaker 1: artist first and foremost, but who will not be put
- 2:53Speaker 1: in a box. He loves the freedom of creating amazing
- 2:56Speaker 1: music no matter what the genre is, Gospel, R and B,
- 2:59Speaker 1: hip hop or rock, whatever he feels, that's his move.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Molly want to Grammar this year for the song moving
- 3:05Speaker 1: on his hit collaboration with Jonathan mcreynold's. He's nominated for
- 3:09Speaker 1: three Stellar Awards this year. He's got back on the
- 3:12Speaker 1: road because COVID shut everybody down in twenty but he's
- 3:15Speaker 1: getting back out there. Gotta make that check, gotta make
- 3:17Speaker 1: that check. The things that started to open up across
- 3:20Speaker 1: the US and we'll be announcing new music and new
- 3:22Speaker 1: tour dates coming soon and I'll be the first to
- 3:24Speaker 1: put him out there for my man. Please work with
- 3:27Speaker 1: the money making conversation again, Molla music. How you doing,
- 3:29Speaker 1: Molly Wow McDonald has it goaling? What an honor beautiful
- 3:34Speaker 1: introduction to be back again. Hey world, let's get it well.
- 3:38Speaker 1: The think about you that you know when we talked, man,
- 3:40Speaker 1: it was almost because I have a I come from
- 3:42Speaker 1: a big family, Molly, you know, from Houston, Texas. I
- 3:44Speaker 1: have a six sisters, two brothers, and I felt I
- 3:47Speaker 1: was talking to my younger brother here. Man, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: because because you know you, you know you you got
- 3:52Speaker 1: that energy. Man, you you you still have unconquered territories
- 3:56Speaker 1: that you want to, like, want to want to want
- 3:58Speaker 1: to make a difference in. But the more for sure
- 4:00Speaker 1: it is we always can get boxed in, especially we
- 4:04Speaker 1: do R and B. People think, oh, you should be
- 4:06Speaker 1: doing R and B. You do country? What you what black?
- 4:08Speaker 1: What you're doing over in country? You should be over there?
- 4:11Speaker 1: And so we've seen so many walls coming down in
- 4:14Speaker 1: our era in this timeline. Are you feeling that's comfortable
- 4:17Speaker 1: for what you're trying to do as well. I do
- 4:21Speaker 1: feel that it's effective, but comfortable is not the words. Um.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It's good for what we want business to do. It's
- 4:29Speaker 1: good for the spreading of our wings. But it's kind
- 4:33Speaker 1: of like a racial conversation. You open up the doors
- 4:36Speaker 1: to be heard out by a different race, and then
- 4:38Speaker 1: it gets uncomfortable for just because you start bringing out
- 4:41Speaker 1: different issues. I recently traveled to Nashville to do some
- 4:45Speaker 1: songwriting with Chad lead Saying of the rock band Christian
- 4:49Speaker 1: rock band Unspoken, and it was a challenge for me,
- 4:53Speaker 1: especially coming from soul background gospel background, but I had
- 4:57Speaker 1: to remember I have songs out like Gimme, Gimme Ready, impulses,
- 5:01Speaker 1: songs that have rock feels for it. So man, the
- 5:04Speaker 1: spreading and the falling of the genres, it's definitely good.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I've been watching it happen in hip hop and other
- 5:10Speaker 1: genres for a long time, and I'm glad that it's
- 5:12Speaker 1: finally made it to the gospel. Well, you're interesting, But
- 5:15Speaker 1: it's about a beat, isn't it, Because when you're talking
- 5:17Speaker 1: about you know, because it is like a one three
- 5:19Speaker 1: or two four beat when you're talking about music, when
- 5:21Speaker 1: you're talking about R and B beats, and you're talking
- 5:23Speaker 1: about we're talking about rock beats, especially because they can
- 5:26Speaker 1: hang out notes a lot longer. How does that you know?
- 5:29Speaker 1: Because we all know that gospel is driven by emotion
- 5:32Speaker 1: and and so and so you're emotionally driven guy, and
- 5:35Speaker 1: then you're going to rock a lot of times it's
- 5:37Speaker 1: just driven by sound. So how do you blend the
- 5:41Speaker 1: two to get the results that you want? Excellent question. Well,
- 5:46Speaker 1: they bring me in normally as a lyricist, I write
- 5:49Speaker 1: lyrics like you know mean comes only to still killing
- 5:53Speaker 1: and destroyed. Come in with things like that, I said
- 5:56Speaker 1: a Christian rock band. One thing about the genre gospel
- 6:01Speaker 1: is it is sound. It doesn't necessarily have a sound anymore.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Of course, you have the Mahellia Jackson. You know, it
- 6:08Speaker 1: comes up. You know, you have the no you're not,
- 6:13Speaker 1: you know, house of prayer, and that's your house of prayer.
- 6:15Speaker 1: You get what I'm saying. Town, You have Baptist music,
- 6:20Speaker 1: um worship music like hill Song and stuff like that.
- 6:24Speaker 1: If you notice, the music could be anything. Gospel and
- 6:27Speaker 1: Christian has now solely based in genre around the content.
- 6:30Speaker 1: As long as at some point you say that Jesus
- 6:32Speaker 1: Christ's Lord. It could sound like any type of beat,
- 6:36Speaker 1: you get what I mean. So our genre is mostly
- 6:40Speaker 1: about the edification of God, absolute sound. But it is
- 6:44Speaker 1: because we just talk amusing that molly okay, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: because of the fact that when you look at R
- 6:49Speaker 1: and B, you know, like you started naming different artists
- 6:51Speaker 1: that they lie themselves in the whole genre. Because because
- 6:55Speaker 1: when you got the hip hop and rap, it just
- 6:56Speaker 1: like tore it self away from R right, it towards you.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Just this is not even MARB. They don't even sing it,
- 7:02Speaker 1: ok they clearly not saying. And then when you get
- 7:04Speaker 1: into R and B had soul, you know, you had
- 7:08Speaker 1: had the deal. So yeah, all those different genres. So
- 7:12Speaker 1: when when you start talking about gosp, I started realizing, man,
- 7:15Speaker 1: there are many many layers. When you talk about Man Jackson,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you talk about Kurt Franklin, you talk about you, you know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: Donnie McClerkin. John Ki inquired, right, how did that? And
- 7:28Speaker 1: that's from a creative standpoint, that's a challenge. Huh, yeah,
- 7:33Speaker 1: it could be. But what I noticed while coming up
- 7:36Speaker 1: in church is a lot of the creativity came out
- 7:39Speaker 1: of one person um creatively, like you might have had
- 7:43Speaker 1: six people in Ricky dillits quiet, but they were all
- 7:46Speaker 1: a lot doing riggy and everything that would coming out
- 7:48Speaker 1: of their mouth. And the band was something that he
- 7:51Speaker 1: probably heard at the coffee table that a few mornings
- 7:53Speaker 1: before and taught them say what Hezekiah. So being a
- 7:56Speaker 1: praise of worship leader, first, I know that you can
- 7:58Speaker 1: spend time with God in the car, Tell some vocalists
- 8:02Speaker 1: how the part go, tell the band, and before you
- 8:04Speaker 1: know what, you're in a high spirit of praise. So
- 8:06Speaker 1: the big ideas can come out of one person. Of
- 8:09Speaker 1: Beethoven had a whole orchestra, but it was his music
- 8:13Speaker 1: every line. So I think it's just um, you know,
- 8:16Speaker 1: just based on who the idea is coming out of,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and it could be one person, even though many people
- 8:20Speaker 1: of health. You know, when I want to look at you, Mally,
- 8:23Speaker 1: I always said I have to bring this question to
- 8:24Speaker 1: everybody who comes to the show. What did it start
- 8:27Speaker 1: for you? Because I look at myself and I try
- 8:30Speaker 1: to pinpoint. I always tell people I've been doing this
- 8:32Speaker 1: since I was eighteen years old when I really looked
- 8:34Speaker 1: at my life. You know, I've been I've been uplifting,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I've been creative. I've been a person who who thought differently,
- 8:41Speaker 1: just saw I saw a different path to success. I
- 8:43Speaker 1: came from a black neighborhood, but I didn't want to
- 8:45Speaker 1: die in a black neighborhood. I thought there was more
- 8:47Speaker 1: to the world out there, and eighteen years old, I
- 8:49Speaker 1: was committed to seeing more of that world. So that
- 8:52Speaker 1: so I locked that day. That's important when it really
- 8:55Speaker 1: started for me. And then I went to college and
- 8:57Speaker 1: college changed my life. What did start for all of music? Well?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Out bagged my father for pro Tools, which is a
- 9:09Speaker 1: sound or wave recording software that is about maybe five
- 9:14Speaker 1: hundred six hundred dollars. It requires US computer monitor, miles
- 9:21Speaker 1: sound speakers. I was asking my dad for this at
- 9:23Speaker 1: thirteen years old. I would laugh because you said. My
- 9:33Speaker 1: dad was saying, oh, this is not a money making compensations.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I said, you know, I understood. I asked him around
- 9:41Speaker 1: thirteen after going to a studio with a friend. And
- 9:44Speaker 1: that's how I learned. That's how people get their voice
- 9:48Speaker 1: to come out of the radio. As a young boy,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I'm always hearing moms saying, I'm always hearing my sisters saying,
- 9:53Speaker 1: But I'm like, how do we come out of the
- 9:54Speaker 1: radio like Luther Van Drawls, you know, And I didn't
- 9:58Speaker 1: know if it was some type of process and it
- 10:00Speaker 1: was pro tools and like you know, electronic and software
- 10:03Speaker 1: based computers was what it was. After the tape started
- 10:06Speaker 1: going for you laid it on wax, But now you
- 10:08Speaker 1: could do it digitally, I asked my after that thirteen No, no, no,
- 10:16Speaker 1: Dad's sprintly. He got it for me around sixteen. I
- 10:20Speaker 1: was mastering it around seventeen and utilizing it for church
- 10:23Speaker 1: stuff like putting thunder behind my pastor preaching if he
- 10:27Speaker 1: pro spoke about a valley or war. Trying to find
- 10:30Speaker 1: ways to use the technological sound advancement that I was
- 10:35Speaker 1: blessed with by my dad at sixteen to do what
- 10:37Speaker 1: my mom was making me doing. So now you got
- 10:39Speaker 1: this pro tools, but don't talk about no women, don't
- 10:41Speaker 1: talk about no bottles, and you're gonna be talking about God.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I don't want no curse words. And make sure that
- 10:47Speaker 1: you creatively, creatively, don't do that same note stuff. I said, okay, man,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I could do that. So I think that that's what
- 10:53Speaker 1: set my values early. So even though I had a
- 10:56Speaker 1: huge future and I probably wouldn't been doing all types
- 10:58Speaker 1: of music. My values were set based on me getting
- 11:01Speaker 1: music for church, God being put into my heart in
- 11:05Speaker 1: my gift, and me promising the people who gave it
- 11:07Speaker 1: to me that I wouldn't straight from that path. As
- 11:10Speaker 1: I grew older, that got more and more difficult because
- 11:12Speaker 1: I want to be more rebellious. I want to start
- 11:14Speaker 1: echoing sounds that I hear, but holding on to those
- 11:17Speaker 1: values kept the unique and especial anointing on it. It's
- 11:20Speaker 1: finally here, the season of celebration, and no matter how
- 11:24Speaker 1: you celebrate with family and friends, whether you're preparing for
- 11:27Speaker 1: reis magos or Karamu lighting the Manura, are going to

- 12:18Speaker 1: just waiting for the And there they go, almost on time.
- 12:22Speaker 1: This morning. Mom is coming off the front door, strong
- 12:25Speaker 1: with a double arm kid carry. Looks like Dad has
- 12:27Speaker 1: the bags. Daughter is bringing up the rear. Oh, but
- 12:30Speaker 1: the diaper bag wasn't closed. Diapers and toys are everywhere.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Oh but mom has just nailed the perfect car seat
- 12:39Speaker 1: buckle for the toddler. And now the eldest daughter, who
- 12:42Speaker 1: looks to be about nine or ten, has secured herself
- 12:45Speaker 1: in the booster seat. Dad SIPs the bag clothes and
- 12:48Speaker 1: they're off. Ah, but looks like Mom doesn't realize her
- 12:52Speaker 1: coffee cup is still on the roof of the car.
- 12:54Speaker 1: And there it goes. Oh, that's a shame that mug
- 12:58Speaker 1: was a fan favorite. Don't sweat the small stuff, just
- 13:01Speaker 1: nailed the big stuff, like making sure your kids are
- 13:03Speaker 1: buckled correctly in the right seat for their agent's eyes.

- 13:38Speaker 1: you by the AD Council. Welcome out in the sines. Well,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I like the molly. I liked this conversation because of
- 13:49Speaker 1: the fact they talked about you earned it, you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: because at thirteen they knew you were talent it. But
- 13:54Speaker 1: did they know that did you understand the value of
- 13:57Speaker 1: this five dollars or six hundred dollar advice? Because people
- 14:01Speaker 1: if you, if you give somebody a car, let them
- 14:03Speaker 1: loan and then guess what they if they reckon, they
- 14:06Speaker 1: go I'm sorry. But if they were tied to the
- 14:09Speaker 1: damage of direct then they have a different conversation when
- 14:12Speaker 1: they come talk to you. And so Now at that
- 14:14Speaker 1: early age were their friends who started, i know, tied
- 14:19Speaker 1: to the church, and you started seeing people react to
- 14:22Speaker 1: your beach, react to your music because you're the gospel man.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Because you know. The thing about it is, if you're
- 14:27Speaker 1: a rap, if you're an R and B, you know
- 14:29Speaker 1: you yes, you can. You know, if R and B
- 14:31Speaker 1: you're singing for the ladies, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:33Speaker 1: If you're a rap in the street just just doing
- 14:35Speaker 1: rive for your crew, who were you doing it for?
- 14:39Speaker 1: My pastor gave me the opportunity to be minister of
- 14:43Speaker 1: music and start playing at his church when I was eleven. Now,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I said, I asked my dad for pro too that thirteen.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So I've already been singing as a minister of music
- 14:51Speaker 1: and playing learning chords in the church for three years
- 14:54Speaker 1: already on Yamaha d X seven. Now that's as old
- 14:58Speaker 1: the keyboard that you could yeah and be. I'm blowing
- 15:02Speaker 1: contridge is out trying to change in the middle of that.
- 15:05Speaker 1: It's not what I need. So I was a young
- 15:08Speaker 1: musician coming in at the ship of a technological era,
- 15:11Speaker 1: like synthesizers were growing into bigger stuff when the churches
- 15:16Speaker 1: just before I started playing in church, which was very
- 15:18Speaker 1: early were mostly organ all right, so we didn't have
- 15:21Speaker 1: an organ in that church, so the keyboard wasn't enough.
- 15:23Speaker 1: So I wanted strings. I wanted all these different types
- 15:25Speaker 1: of things. So that's what kind of set the tone.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It was to please my pastor. It was to be
- 15:30Speaker 1: able to show that I was ready for the leadership
- 15:32Speaker 1: position that he gave me. Even though I was so young.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I anticipated for people to say I was unauthorized and
- 15:38Speaker 1: should not be associated with such a position light minutes
- 15:40Speaker 1: of music. So I gave my all to it. I
- 15:42Speaker 1: gave my commitment, and it kind of gave me responsibility.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Before I wanted friends, So now even though I had
- 15:49Speaker 1: friends and companions, I was if I wasn't doing chorus,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I was trying to make sure I got back to
- 15:54Speaker 1: learn my pro tools because my dad wasn't from the
- 15:57Speaker 1: boy me software that I didn't know how to use.
- 16:00Speaker 1: So now I have to read user books, manuals, and
- 16:03Speaker 1: I became pretty obsessive and a bit of a nerd
- 16:06Speaker 1: over the technological part. Once I started bringing CDs to school,
- 16:10Speaker 1: it was over. I'm singing for the dances, I'm I'm
- 16:13Speaker 1: doing the national anthem. Prerecorded over the I just was
- 16:17Speaker 1: finding ways to use the pro tools and it became
- 16:19Speaker 1: really awesome. But it didn't hit until the world heard
- 16:22Speaker 1: it on my Space. And that's where social media comes in.
- 16:25Speaker 1: That so my music was right on the curve of
- 16:27Speaker 1: a shift, and once everybody heard it online because black
- 16:31Speaker 1: Planet just died, I was in my Space artist by
- 16:34Speaker 1: the time they found Molly Music. I had my song
- 16:36Speaker 1: I Hate You No music all I have to give
- 16:40Speaker 1: and I think forward on my my Space page and
- 16:42Speaker 1: the rest is history. Well, history is still giving you,
- 16:46Speaker 1: uh love. You know, grammed with yours who have had
- 16:51Speaker 1: on the show. You know, working with artists like that
- 16:54Speaker 1: because he's really creative, he's young, and yeah, talk about
- 16:58Speaker 1: collaboration because that's a key because you know, I've listened
- 17:03Speaker 1: to writers and especial producers because they brought in for
- 17:07Speaker 1: a talent, but they also have to be be true
- 17:09Speaker 1: enough to understand who they're working with, but also strong
- 17:12Speaker 1: enough to be able to get the finished product to
- 17:15Speaker 1: the end in his own So talking about when you
- 17:18Speaker 1: when collaborations, the one you did with Jonathan mcgrillo, which
- 17:21Speaker 1: want to grab me by the way, moving on, thank
- 17:23Speaker 1: you so much? It was such a gift to be
- 17:25Speaker 1: able to hold that coming out of the box, and
- 17:27Speaker 1: it represented what collaboration represents for me, sacrifice. Everybody wants
- 17:33Speaker 1: it to be them alone. Everybody wants to win a
- 17:37Speaker 1: race because of how good they are. But so many
- 17:41Speaker 1: things were going on and I just really wanted to
- 17:43Speaker 1: help so many people. I noticed once I got finished
- 17:47Speaker 1: acting inside of the like movie industry, that the most
- 17:52Speaker 1: important investment was like the last two million dollars that
- 17:57Speaker 1: a movie needs, and people can come on at a
- 18:00Speaker 1: final investor because a movie ran short on a ten
- 18:03Speaker 1: million dollar budget or something, that they give the final
- 18:06Speaker 1: two and then it is the breaking point of it.
- 18:08Speaker 1: That's what I started doing with my music. Jonathan had
- 18:10Speaker 1: a whole album, The People album was killing. He had
- 18:13Speaker 1: a whole campaign, But collaboration was just so we could
- 18:16Speaker 1: bring our jet packs together to get over the edge.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Of course we could do something effective in gospel, but
- 18:22Speaker 1: can we put a dent in the world, And that
- 18:25Speaker 1: was something we weren't planning to do. But the collaboration
- 18:28Speaker 1: goes in depth. It was agreement from me and Jonathan
- 18:30Speaker 1: and Spirit, but then it also was our teams. I'm
- 18:33Speaker 1: with r c Ai and he is with E one,
- 18:37Speaker 1: and those companies also collaborated for us to have the
- 18:39Speaker 1: success that we had based on, you know, working the record,
- 18:43Speaker 1: calling people. It was two labels collaborating. So I'm very
- 18:46Speaker 1: proud of what Gospel Music did because we obtained this
- 18:48Speaker 1: reward or this award by working together. There's a lot
- 18:52Speaker 1: of people who just simply don't do that. In God.
- 18:56Speaker 1: With Phil Thornton, hey don't get me started. On the field,
- 19:04Speaker 1: that guy is awesome and he's been grinding from the beginning.
- 19:08Speaker 1: So I was so excited to see that his promotion
- 19:10Speaker 1: finally came. So it's like Steve Nash, Oh, you have
- 19:14Speaker 1: a team now that you're coaching. Can I play with y'all?
- 19:16Speaker 1: I wasn't necessarily interested in functioning with the system this way,
- 19:21Speaker 1: but if you're over it, I know God has involved,
- 19:23Speaker 1: prayers involved, and I could have success and it worked out.
- 19:26Speaker 1: So I'm happy. You know that the beauty of you,
- 19:29Speaker 1: there's a certain genuine love of conversation because you know
- 19:35Speaker 1: this is this is not insulted. You know a lot
- 19:37Speaker 1: of people they won't they you know their gospel, they
- 19:41Speaker 1: just come there. They're real church. You're you're hallelujah. Praised
- 19:44Speaker 1: the Lord. It's a blessing to be here. I got that.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I got that. But I really think, I really think, Molly,
- 19:52Speaker 1: I can eat some bob que with you. You know
- 19:54Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I really think I could play some
- 19:56Speaker 1: basketball with you. You know what I'm saying. We can
- 19:59Speaker 1: scream by the team, be a little bit. You know
- 20:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. I really do believe that, man, because
- 20:03Speaker 1: that is that's part of your upbringing. You know. The
- 20:06Speaker 1: spiked the fact at eleven years old, you was giving
- 20:09Speaker 1: a leadership role, which is a mature thing and also
- 20:12Speaker 1: can be something that can like pigeon hole a person's personality.
- 20:17Speaker 1: But how did you really maintain your personality? Man, with
- 20:20Speaker 1: all that pressure? But loving you old talking to adults
- 20:24Speaker 1: considered a gifted individual because you just don't slide over there.
- 20:27Speaker 1: But then your parents over they're going, really, boy, take
- 20:30Speaker 1: that trash out there, boy boy, if you don't clean
- 20:33Speaker 1: up your room, because that was happening at the house.
- 20:36Speaker 1: So that really kept you straight correct, yes, And then
- 20:40Speaker 1: coming up in Savannah, Georgia, it was happening outside the house.
- 20:43Speaker 1: You can get whooped by anybody, enjoy. So it was
- 20:47Speaker 1: a blessing because I'll see, I'm thirteen years old and
- 20:51Speaker 1: the power God falls at a at a meeting, um.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And then I get spoken to by one of the
- 20:57Speaker 1: elder women, one of the grandma, and that's all she's
- 21:01Speaker 1: gonna say. She will never get around the same. Good job.
- 21:04Speaker 1: She says, don't forget where you come from. That And
- 21:09Speaker 1: that's not mean that she seen me going play. She
- 21:11Speaker 1: forgot to tell me that, but she let me know
- 21:14Speaker 1: no matter what, that I needed to be humbled. And
- 21:16Speaker 1: I remember those people or they'll say, alright, keep doing
- 21:19Speaker 1: what you're doing. Don't change enough. They're gonna ask you
- 21:21Speaker 1: to do this, do that, don't change nothing. I'm like, yes, ma'am,
- 21:24Speaker 1: you know I'm gonna stay that path. And I just
- 21:26Speaker 1: remember those people who say, remember the little people when
- 21:29Speaker 1: you get there. And it's cool because it's a bit
- 21:33Speaker 1: back and forth because you have some elite people who
- 21:35Speaker 1: want to feel that they're around other pompous people. UM.
- 21:40Speaker 1: But that's just not the way that I'm bringing it.
- 21:41Speaker 1: God brings all success and we're lucky to get whatever
- 21:44Speaker 1: we get in the first place. And it's all about
- 21:46Speaker 1: loving people. So that's the greatest wealth any money that
- 21:49Speaker 1: I ever got came from somebody. You get what I mean. Hey, Molly,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'm talking about the music man three Grammy Grammy win
- 21:57Speaker 1: this year with his collaboration, moving on with John is
- 21:59Speaker 1: the Man Reynolds and then some interview and Phil Thornton
- 22:02Speaker 1: and then I just run through this list though you
- 22:05Speaker 1: know all the artists from the label R C A I,
- 22:08Speaker 1: which is based out of Nashville. And I saw Molly
- 22:11Speaker 1: music three nominations. I said, I got to get it.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And it was just a WEE can have ago. I said,
- 22:18Speaker 1: it was crazy. I've been It's awesome, I said. I said,
- 22:22Speaker 1: I got to get him on the show and talk
- 22:24Speaker 1: about this because you know what I said, because when
- 22:26Speaker 1: you said the Stellar Awards, I see you because because
- 22:28Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about this year. But I want to
- 22:30Speaker 1: go back in because that's when you're gonna really tell
- 22:33Speaker 1: me the story of how this happened for you had
- 22:37Speaker 1: to work through the obstacles of last year. They get
- 22:39Speaker 1: where we got absolutely, and so give the time before
- 22:43Speaker 1: a D and five or internet shame, shame shame, what
- 22:48Speaker 1: did you do love or ran out of Internet data

- 22:54Speaker 1: I feel shame, shame. In the time after a D

- 23:46Speaker 1: Sure no one else grows in the forest. Our imagination,
- 23:49Speaker 1: a sense of wonder, and our family bonds grow too,
- 23:53Speaker 1: because when we disconnect from this and connect with this,
- 23:59Speaker 1: we reconnect with each other. The forest is closer than
- 24:03Speaker 1: you think. Find a forest near you and start exploring
- 24:06Speaker 1: I Discover the Forest dot org, brought to you by
- 24:09Speaker 1: the United States Forest Service and the AD Council. Those
- 24:13Speaker 1: three nominations, how does that make you feel? You know, uh,
- 24:17Speaker 1: just talk about the steps and of that process. Like
- 24:20Speaker 1: you said, the team get the because we don't do
- 24:23Speaker 1: this by ourselves and sometimes get out there we feel
- 24:26Speaker 1: like we buy ourselves. But you at three nominations Stellar
- 24:30Speaker 1: Awards talk about that determination, perseverance, and faith. I can't
- 24:38Speaker 1: necessarily say, like in releasing it, like oh man, this
- 24:41Speaker 1: is locked up. It wasn't like that for me because
- 24:43Speaker 1: there was so many business things that started to happen.
- 24:47Speaker 1: This was my first project as an owner of K approved,
- 24:51Speaker 1: E and T, which is, you know, my company. That's
- 24:53Speaker 1: where I'm going to be releasing other artists so they
- 24:55Speaker 1: don't have to endure the things that I had to
- 24:57Speaker 1: endure to get where I am. So my attempt from
- 25:01Speaker 1: being independent and not being signed anymore than now in
- 25:04Speaker 1: this licensing situation with philth Thor and Ron Hill over
- 25:07Speaker 1: r c A, I I wanted to create a label
- 25:10Speaker 1: to when I saw the next Molley's and when I
- 25:12Speaker 1: saw the next time and I could protected it. You know,
- 25:15Speaker 1: harvested and push it out. So the Book of Molly
- 25:18Speaker 1: was my first project from that licensing thing, and it
- 25:22Speaker 1: was difficult financially paying producers, uh publishing, of getting clearances
- 25:29Speaker 1: on any samples, getting all musicians taken care of. It
- 25:33Speaker 1: was cool because it's it's a blessing on a small level.
- 25:37Speaker 1: But if you play piano on a John Legend song,
- 25:39Speaker 1: how much money are you gonna ask for at the end?
- 25:42Speaker 1: Get You're not gonna say no, it's okay, just give
- 25:44Speaker 1: me a hundred dollars. You're gonna be trying to find
- 25:46Speaker 1: out how to get enough money for the rest of
- 25:49Speaker 1: your life because you played piano on a John Legend.
- 25:56Speaker 1: That was one of the things that had me a
- 25:57Speaker 1: bit discouraged going in, you know, and it's always that
- 26:01Speaker 1: way because of the fact that I would love this
- 26:03Speaker 1: to be a talent, but because then you're sitting over
- 26:06Speaker 1: there just answering to somebody to be able to make
- 26:09Speaker 1: that commitment paying taxes, you know, paying for paying value.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Then you can understand that how this really works, how
- 26:17Speaker 1: a Tyler Perer of real work. I can assure you
- 26:19Speaker 1: tyr Perer knows everybody paying okay, how will Packer how
- 26:23Speaker 1: all these Steve Harger, all these people are able to do, Renee,
- 26:27Speaker 1: Oprah Winfrey. You're just doing what they're doing. And believe me,
- 26:30Speaker 1: they know who they pay and they also know the
- 26:34Speaker 1: the pain infrastruction of being an entrepreneur. So you went
- 26:36Speaker 1: from a talent to an entrepreneur, and that's important because
- 26:40Speaker 1: that allows you to collaborate and know what money you
- 26:44Speaker 1: would do properly or what makes you so much for
- 26:47Speaker 1: noting that, that's so awesome for you to see and
- 26:50Speaker 1: and catch because I can only hope that that is
- 26:53Speaker 1: what happens, because a lot of people still see me
- 26:55Speaker 1: as a talent. But you can only go so far
- 26:58Speaker 1: there without the property. And this is a huge step
- 27:01Speaker 1: for me. So you're right online and you can't really
- 27:04Speaker 1: make too many changes for people, yourself or the world
- 27:08Speaker 1: from this the artist's position. So it's good to like
- 27:11Speaker 1: be in a position that you can make some things happen,
- 27:13Speaker 1: not for yourself but for you, you know the thing
- 27:15Speaker 1: about That's why that's why I created this show so
- 27:17Speaker 1: I can talk to individuals like you, Mala, because because
- 27:20Speaker 1: because as a talent or an individual who buys tickets
- 27:23Speaker 1: or you can get caught up in the show business
- 27:26Speaker 1: other show and it can make you believe that you
- 27:28Speaker 1: can't do that, or they tell you you can't do
- 27:31Speaker 1: that because it's so complicated. And so I could assure
- 27:36Speaker 1: you when you was making this transition, it was a
- 27:38Speaker 1: lot of as they say, trepidation, fear, Yeah, you know,
- 27:42Speaker 1: go uh am, I gonna make a mistake. I don't
- 27:44Speaker 1: want to mess up. And then when you did it,
- 27:46Speaker 1: I remember I did a big my first neighborhood awards
- 27:49Speaker 1: back in Los Angeles by two thousand three. When I
- 27:53Speaker 1: finished it, I realized, I said, I started crying because
- 27:56Speaker 1: of the fact that all along I could have done
- 27:59Speaker 1: this when I had been told I couldn't do it
- 28:02Speaker 1: because it was so hard to do. And so when
- 28:04Speaker 1: I hear you saying, man, it was a lot of stress,
- 28:07Speaker 1: it was like, that's part of the process of walking
- 28:09Speaker 1: through fire. Yeah, and you do it again and again
- 28:14Speaker 1: and again, and guess what, it's not because it's easier
- 28:17Speaker 1: because you trust yourself, right. And that's why we're trying
- 28:21Speaker 1: to get that. When I'm talking to you as a
- 28:23Speaker 1: person who said, look what, I won't be pigeonholed because
- 28:26Speaker 1: I want to know what it feels like to do
- 28:29Speaker 1: R and B music. I want to know what to
- 28:31Speaker 1: feel like do rock music. I wanted to feel hip
- 28:33Speaker 1: hop music because guess what, then I understand my value.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And that's all this conversation about is about your value.
- 28:40Speaker 1: The first time I met you, I always felt I
- 28:42Speaker 1: was talking to a uniquely different individual because you value
- 28:45Speaker 1: things differently. And now you tell me you've been doing
- 28:48Speaker 1: this since you were eleven years old, I appreciate and
- 28:50Speaker 1: respect you even more. Man, I'm grateful for that, all right.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Was blessed to be able to have those responsibilities, and
- 28:58Speaker 1: you just nailed it. I'm know, honor, that you've been
- 29:01Speaker 1: seeing and following what I've been able to do, because
- 29:04Speaker 1: I can only hope that is that a lot of times,
- 29:06Speaker 1: you know, as you said, we think with myself and
- 29:08Speaker 1: that people miss it. So it's really cool to see.
- 29:11Speaker 1: But all of the positions were necessary. The first one
- 29:14Speaker 1: was a servant leader. My mother was doing a lot
- 29:16Speaker 1: of the management with Holly Carter. I was young. I
- 29:20Speaker 1: had confidence in the music, but not necessarily confidence in
- 29:23Speaker 1: the meeting room, so I wouldn't speak much. I was
- 29:26Speaker 1: also directed and told not to speak much. How have
- 29:28Speaker 1: I started noticing that at the end of the day,
- 29:30Speaker 1: I had the final say. So if I had the
- 29:33Speaker 1: final say, I started trying to work my way into
- 29:35Speaker 1: getting the first say, and you know, versus it kind
- 29:38Speaker 1: of going all the way through and it me seeming
- 29:40Speaker 1: like it's not that. But at the end of the day,
- 29:42Speaker 1: that's the only way that I can keep it in
- 29:43Speaker 1: God's hands. That's the only way that I can keep
- 29:45Speaker 1: the integrity of my anointing clear. If I wasn't in
- 29:48Speaker 1: a situation where I can control these things, people will
- 29:50Speaker 1: continue to say, even in churches, Molly, we want you
- 29:53Speaker 1: to sing, but don't sing this song, don't say this,
- 29:56Speaker 1: don't be this, don't act like this. Once I started
- 29:59Speaker 1: recognized sizing and seeing that that's what was going to
- 30:01Speaker 1: happen early in gospel, I knew it was time to
- 30:03Speaker 1: get out because there was no way to be what
- 30:05Speaker 1: I was without the housekeepers of the places I was
- 30:08Speaker 1: going to sing at protecting their people, right, and they
- 30:11Speaker 1: protect their people from me. So I'm like, well, I
- 30:14Speaker 1: just got to get out so I could go ahead
- 30:15Speaker 1: and be everything that God said and then you guys
- 30:17Speaker 1: don't have to worry about what you're telling me not
- 30:20Speaker 1: to do. And it worked out in spite of a
- 30:22Speaker 1: world of people, a whole wave of creative people, and
- 30:25Speaker 1: it's caused me to not be able to stop even
- 30:27Speaker 1: when the world stops. During the pandemic, I was a
- 30:29Speaker 1: visualizing myself as a Joseph, like, Okay, well, everybody may
- 30:35Speaker 1: not be able to get the best of what they
- 30:36Speaker 1: wanted or liked while everything was flowing, but they could
- 30:39Speaker 1: at least get this weak They could at least get something.
- 30:44Speaker 1: And uh, and I have it stored up, so how
- 30:45Speaker 1: can I bring it out? I already have an album out?
- 30:48Speaker 1: How can I release the more? In partner with other people?
- 30:50Speaker 1: And keep saying And it worked, COVID shutdown music, shut
- 30:55Speaker 1: down live, shut down tour dates. Now we got new music.
- 30:59Speaker 1: We got two days coming of tell us how one
- 31:02Speaker 1: is going to play youself out for oh man? It's
- 31:05Speaker 1: so packed and stacked and a lot of my colleagues
- 31:09Speaker 1: are excited because they're saying that this is what they wanted.
- 31:12Speaker 1: But during the pandemic, I recognize that I did not
- 31:16Speaker 1: want to make my money on the road, primarily maybe
- 31:20Speaker 1: when I was younger and all this stuff like that,
- 31:22Speaker 1: And I get opportunities to sing and travel now because
- 31:24Speaker 1: I really want to see my people, and I love
- 31:26Speaker 1: the stage. Um, However, as a soul, you know, commodity
- 31:33Speaker 1: or a stream of income, I don't feel like it's
- 31:35Speaker 1: the ways. Uh, there's so many ways to make a
- 31:38Speaker 1: thousand dollars, ten thousand dollars overnight if you can get
- 31:41Speaker 1: the education and look versus waiting a whole month stressing
- 31:45Speaker 1: your body and banging your body to gain five thousand dollars.
- 31:50Speaker 1: You know here seven thousand dollars there. Sitting down forced
- 31:54Speaker 1: me to say, Okay, this is God's way of taking
- 31:56Speaker 1: everybody's strongestinct from them. So this is a year for
- 32:00Speaker 1: us to adopt and adapt new hobbies. And I used
- 32:04Speaker 1: it to create new strings of income just in case
- 32:07Speaker 1: the ones that closed and never came back. So now
- 32:09Speaker 1: I created five, and then the five I had came back,
- 32:12Speaker 1: and I was ten strings of income, and you know,
- 32:15Speaker 1: it's a really crazy thing, and I wanted to make
- 32:16Speaker 1: sure that the other five had nothing to do with music.
- 32:19Speaker 1: So now when I sing, I primarily used the increase
- 32:23Speaker 1: that I get from singing to tap into another entrepreneur
- 32:26Speaker 1: mine to be able to buy stocks or invest in
- 32:29Speaker 1: juices or milk or something that the stores are buying
- 32:33Speaker 1: so that I'm making money without being great. Get what
- 32:37Speaker 1: I'm saying, Well, you know, I because I'm I look
- 32:41Speaker 1: at the I went back and I told my stockbroker.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I said, no, no, no, don't put me in a fund.
- 32:46Speaker 1: I said, I'm gonna tell you what I want to buy.
- 32:49Speaker 1: I picked our ten stocks that I said, these ones
- 32:51Speaker 1: I want to buy. Oh, you know, I would have
- 32:54Speaker 1: loved been in that. But trust myself, and yeah, I
- 33:00Speaker 1: never trust myself. And so but I want to close
- 33:03Speaker 1: and sing this about you is that you know, we've
- 33:07Speaker 1: seen everybody as we go back live and thinning, and
- 33:11Speaker 1: we've seen an over groundswell of people wanted to see
- 33:14Speaker 1: live events, you know, people concerts selling out the two
- 33:17Speaker 1: or three shows, comedy shows. I think this is going
- 33:20Speaker 1: to be such a unique moment for you, Molly, because
- 33:24Speaker 1: to be able, this is the annointing time I think
- 33:27Speaker 1: for individuals like you to get out there not only
- 33:29Speaker 1: to deliver your music, but to hear people wanted to
- 33:31Speaker 1: receive it. And I just think it's gonna be a
- 33:34Speaker 1: great year for you, man, and I respect so much
- 33:37Speaker 1: what you've accomplished in the past. You got my hands up,
- 33:40Speaker 1: so you got my hands up. I receive it. I
- 33:46Speaker 1: want to walk in it with U grace and UM
- 33:51Speaker 1: heavenly anointing. I just don't want to take any credit
- 33:56Speaker 1: for it because I can mess it up with human frustration,
- 33:59Speaker 1: let me tation all this stuff like that. But I
- 34:02Speaker 1: do feel like it's a last of events, so I
- 34:05Speaker 1: don't want to just keep saying to everybody, this is
- 34:07Speaker 1: the time for stories, plays, short short stuff, conversations like
