- 2:06Speaker 1: to live a balanced life. It's time, this young man,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's time. My next guest is a stand up comic,
- 2:13Speaker 1: right there, let's start right there, A stand up comic.
- 2:16Speaker 1: That's what I used to be. But I always it's
- 2:18Speaker 1: hard for him to say that, because I always feel
- 2:21Speaker 1: I'm ill always be a stand up comic. But I
- 2:23Speaker 1: gotta say that's what I used to be because of
- 2:26Speaker 1: the fact that that's what he does. That's what he
- 2:29Speaker 1: does for a living, and he's one of the best. Daddy,
- 2:31Speaker 1: He's an actor and a writer as comedian. As a comedian,
- 2:35Speaker 1: he has performed all over the country and made various
- 2:37Speaker 1: TV appearances. A twenty years stand up veteran who has
- 2:41Speaker 1: made his living performing, acting, writing for TV and film,
- 2:44Speaker 1: and training other comedians. You hear me right there scraining
- 2:47Speaker 1: other comedians. David has performed on Comedy Central to BT.
- 2:51Speaker 1: He has three stand up specials to his credit, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: released his fourth, Fat Ballerina, produced by my man Kevin
- 2:59Speaker 1: Hard Fat Ballerina, Who so Netflix? Right now? That's what
- 3:03Speaker 1: I saw. What I saw. I'm telling you, I was
- 3:06Speaker 1: landing big. I went, you know, because what happens is, hey, brother,
- 3:12Speaker 1: we aren't hoo at the house. Okay, I'm going through
- 3:14Speaker 1: And really really I saw you before the whole pandemic
- 3:18Speaker 1: thing got going. So I saw you. So so I
- 3:21Speaker 1: go to Netflix. I got you know, netflick comes up.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Push my my little AVATARO because my wife got to Avatar.
- 3:28Speaker 1: My daughter got avatar. You know, like like they're looking
- 3:30Speaker 1: at something different than I'm looking at. We all look
- 3:32Speaker 1: at the same Netflix program. So I go, okay, you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I see who's David David Fat looks like David right there. Man,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I just my boy, So I click it. I sat
- 3:47Speaker 1: there the whole time laughing. Then my wife come in
- 3:51Speaker 1: the room. I said, I know him. That's what I said, David,
- 3:55Speaker 1: I know it. I told my wife I know him,
- 4:02Speaker 1: and she went, you know, everybody, okay whatever, when I
- 4:05Speaker 1: know him, man, I tell you absolutely the truth, man.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And then you get to the end, the very end.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Producer Kim whitty Man one of the finest character comedian
- 4:25Speaker 1: actresses in the game today and a stand up I
- 4:29Speaker 1: immediately immediately text Kim Whitman said, I just saw and
- 4:34Speaker 1: you can she she she can screenshot at itself. I
- 4:38Speaker 1: just saw David Special Man. Was he good? I said,
- 4:42Speaker 1: I have to I have to get him on my show.
- 4:45Speaker 1: One of the main conversations David. She went, wasn't he good?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Wasn't he good? I said, girl, he was more than good,
- 4:54Speaker 1: he was fantastic. So David, congratulations, brother. I just had
- 4:59Speaker 1: to tell you how all went down. How how person
- 5:04Speaker 1: Some people say I got a lot of statue in
- 5:06Speaker 1: this business. I like to just say, I'm just a
- 5:08Speaker 1: hard working brother. But to see what you mean, you do,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you've done you. I mean, come on, man, everybody you
- 5:17Speaker 1: know you you have, you have, you have helped guide
- 5:21Speaker 1: one of the people who have been who have become
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know, a staple in the commedy community. You know
- 5:26Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And it takes a lot to do that, man,
- 5:28Speaker 1: It takes a lot to because you know, we're not
- 5:31Speaker 1: easy people, and so it takes a lot to be
- 5:34Speaker 1: able to go on a journey with somebody. And also,
- 5:36Speaker 1: like you said, you did stand up comedy too, So
- 5:39Speaker 1: to be able to you know, adjust your lens and
- 5:43Speaker 1: start helping somebody else to do something is is an
- 5:47Speaker 1: incredible thing within itself. So when I when they called
- 5:51Speaker 1: me and they told me, like, let me give you
- 5:52Speaker 1: our connection. You don't know before. So you you helped
- 6:01Speaker 1: inspire a guy who started me doing, who started me
- 6:05Speaker 1: writing and producing TV. His name is Anthony Hill. That's
- 6:08Speaker 1: my boy. Absolutely I know Anthony is Anthony. Me and
- 6:14Speaker 1: Anthony met doing Tony Rocks. TV showed that I was
- 6:17Speaker 1: I was brought in to do puncher pot. I was.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Actually I wasn't even asked to go. They asked Chris
- 6:23Speaker 1: Spencer to go. Chris Spencer asked if he could bring
- 6:26Speaker 1: his friend to do some punch up. Anthony was wearing
- 6:29Speaker 1: under the room. Long story short, Anthony got rid of
- 6:33Speaker 1: everybody and kept me and me and Anthony became good friends.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Anthony went on to run House of Plain and Nic
- 6:40Speaker 1: the bronspitality period at Lant And the first thing he
- 6:43Speaker 1: did when they put him in charge, which he brought me,
- 6:46Speaker 1: Anthony showed me how to write. Anthony told me that
- 6:49Speaker 1: you showed him and told him and you take this
- 6:53Speaker 1: little play that you wrote and turn it into this
- 6:57Speaker 1: and that is and he credits you for that. So
- 6:59Speaker 1: now when I got the call, you know, hey, you
- 7:02Speaker 1: want to chop it over? Saw I was like, yeah,
- 7:04Speaker 1: because he has no idea that somebody who you helped
- 7:08Speaker 1: also added another another strength in my world, which is
- 7:14Speaker 1: now television writing and producing. So he came back around.
- 7:18Speaker 1: So I just want to say on that thank you.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And then we met one time. We met. We yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 1: we met one time when I was in I think
- 7:30Speaker 1: it was in North Carolina maybe South Carolina, I can't remember.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But I opened up for Steve and I have been
- 7:37Speaker 1: doing stand up all of twenty minutes literally, and you
- 7:41Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's always nice enough to
- 7:43Speaker 1: talk to me in the back and makes me feel
- 7:45Speaker 1: like I was, you know, a person, but it was
- 7:49Speaker 1: I never forget that that was the one encounter that
- 7:53Speaker 1: I had with Steve, which literally had to be twenty
- 7:56Speaker 1: twenty one year, twenty three years ago, because I was
- 7:58Speaker 1: brand new, you know, I mean, I've a stand up
- 8:01Speaker 1: twenty four years somebody. I know, I was within my
- 8:04Speaker 1: first two years of door stand up because I had
- 8:06Speaker 1: about twenty minutes of material. So it was dope then.
- 8:09Speaker 1: So it's great to hear somebody who's um affected your
- 8:14Speaker 1: career indirectly to now see that, oh you saw something
- 8:18Speaker 1: that I did and you thought that it was funny
- 8:21Speaker 1: that makes me feel good. Man. First of all, the callbacks. See,
- 8:25Speaker 1: people don't do callbacks anymore. And a callback, just explain
- 8:29Speaker 1: people with a callback is in a in a funny
- 8:31Speaker 1: comedy routine, is that you're set up a statement and
- 8:35Speaker 1: then you you're indirectly bring it back it laid on
- 8:40Speaker 1: into your show again. He has like three callbacks in
- 8:43Speaker 1: his specially Okay, And I'm not gonna tell you because
- 8:47Speaker 1: if I tell you what the callback is, this won't
- 8:48Speaker 1: be funny when you hear the first time. So I'm
- 8:50Speaker 1: not gonna ruin a joke. But know that. Yeah, but everybody,
- 8:53Speaker 1: But let me just tell it for everybody who's listening
- 8:56Speaker 1: to always tell people that you gotta put in David
- 8:58Speaker 1: a Arnold or you won't find me. If you do
- 9:01Speaker 1: David Arnold, you're gonna find the white guy that produces
- 9:04Speaker 1: all the soundtracks to James Barmer. But if you put
- 9:07Speaker 1: in David a Arnold, you'll find me. Because a lot
- 9:10Speaker 1: of people are searching Netflix and they're searching David Arnold
- 9:13Speaker 1: and sometimes that won't bring it. But if you put
- 9:15Speaker 1: in David a Arnor with stat Ballerina, that's how you
- 9:18Speaker 1: can find me. Especially they're and on social media. So yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 1: but go ahead that that's absolutely the thing, and that
- 9:26Speaker 1: that's really an art form. It's a lost art form,
- 9:29Speaker 1: especially with so many you know, scial media comedians and
- 9:32Speaker 1: YouTube comedians you know, who just just want to say
- 9:35Speaker 1: something for two or three minutes and all of a
- 9:37Speaker 1: sudden they walk off and say and take about But
- 9:40Speaker 1: that's not nothing negative them. They just take advantage of technology.
- 9:43Speaker 1: If I had technology, I may have been a YouTube comedian.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Who knows if I had that ability to chew it up.
- 9:49Speaker 1: The brilliance of Kevin harden Is said he figured out
- 9:51Speaker 1: social media before everybody figuring out as a comedian. That is,
- 9:56Speaker 1: let me tell you something. Was on the phone with
- 9:58Speaker 1: a friend of mine last yesterday and then Desi Banks
- 10:01Speaker 1: as he is a YouTube or a Instagram social media
- 10:06Speaker 1: influencer personality, got like four and a half million followers.
- 10:10Speaker 1: He's now he's been doing stand up about two years,
- 10:12Speaker 1: two or three years, and me and him were talking
- 10:15Speaker 1: about this. I realized about two years ago. With two
- 10:18Speaker 1: years ago, I had sixteen hundred followers, right because I'm
- 10:22Speaker 1: you know, I'm like what I look like yelling in
- 10:24Speaker 1: the camera all day, So I but I realized that
- 10:28Speaker 1: this is the way that the world is being reached now.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So what I didn't want to do with to be
- 10:34Speaker 1: that old school comedian complaining about these young dudes who
- 10:40Speaker 1: are making moves in the way in which the world
- 10:44Speaker 1: is moving. So I started taking my point of view,
- 10:49Speaker 1: my comedy, my voice, and I started posting on Instagram
- 10:52Speaker 1: and Facebook. I got over six hundred thousand followers now
- 10:56Speaker 1: and in eighteen months. Because I've decided this is the
- 11:00Speaker 1: game they're playing, I'm gonna play that game too. I'm
- 11:02Speaker 1: gonna work on my stand up, but I'm gonna play
- 11:04Speaker 1: this social media game as well. So it's been incredible
- 11:09Speaker 1: that six hundred thousand Rashaan gave me the launching pad
- 11:14Speaker 1: when my Netflix special came out a few weeks ago.
- 11:17Speaker 1: That gave me the launching pad to send it out
- 11:19Speaker 1: to six hundred thousand people and let them know it
- 11:21Speaker 1: was up, and that's what sparked it and got it
- 11:24Speaker 1: trending the second day it came out, right, And that's
- 11:27Speaker 1: what people to understand that I just telling my side
- 11:29Speaker 1: story with Steve Harvey is that in two thousand and seven,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I started noticing on CNN and all the sports shows,
- 11:36Speaker 1: Twitter feeds and Twitter. They had the Twitter handles and
- 11:38Speaker 1: I go, wow, what is this because Twitter handles. Twitter
- 11:41Speaker 1: handles Twitter handles And at the time, we had like
- 11:45Speaker 1: seven hundred, eight hundred thousand fan club members and I went, ways,
- 11:49Speaker 1: my time, we got eight hundred thousand fan club members.
- 11:52Speaker 1: And so we sit down, you know something, we don't
- 11:55Speaker 1: want to be left out and so so well Bro
- 11:58Speaker 1: at the time, he had like fifty house and at
- 12:01Speaker 1: that time, and so we brought in the young lady
- 12:03Speaker 1: to be his social media person and avatar, you know,
- 12:06Speaker 1: act like he's posting that he's not posting and so
- 12:09Speaker 1: and move right there. If we did not do that move,
- 12:12Speaker 1: we will not have been able to launch his talk
- 12:15Speaker 1: show in two twelve because I was able to compare
- 12:17Speaker 1: this social media follow with you know, doctor Dr Phil
- 12:22Speaker 1: with ln D General, with his competitors who are coming
- 12:25Speaker 1: along at the same time. And so what you also
- 12:27Speaker 1: tell the people is that if you don't have social
- 12:29Speaker 1: media followers, it can damage your opportunities because a lot
- 12:33Speaker 1: of companies look at you, now go what can you
- 12:35Speaker 1: do for us? We're gonna put your TV? What can
- 12:38Speaker 1: you do for us? That's so true you've got to
- 12:42Speaker 1: have us. I tell all the young comics that I
- 12:44Speaker 1: talked to now and even these older ones, like all
- 12:47Speaker 1: the young comics tell me, or the the young influencers,
- 12:51Speaker 1: They'll tell me you are the first, one of the
- 12:53Speaker 1: first um stand up comedians o g. As they called
- 12:58Speaker 1: me stand up comic to have figured out the social
- 13:01Speaker 1: media game. And I'm like, because I'm not gonna let
- 13:04Speaker 1: this pass me by, especially because I have not yet
- 13:06Speaker 1: gotten my just to do. I have not yet been seen,
- 13:10Speaker 1: like I feel like I need to be seen. So
- 13:13Speaker 1: therefore I started building. Uh, I started building a following,
- 13:17Speaker 1: and I was like, listen, they posted up videos that
- 13:20Speaker 1: are two and a half sixty seconds to three minutes long,
- 13:23Speaker 1: and most of them ain't funny. I'm funny. I know
- 13:28Speaker 1: I'm funny. So I'm like, I could be funny, I
- 13:31Speaker 1: say for the rest of my life. I d I
- 13:42Speaker 1: leave at your I leaned into it and like, I'm
- 13:45Speaker 1: not gonna complain about the game. I'm gonna get with
- 13:48Speaker 1: the game. And now I got these two worlds and
- 13:51Speaker 1: I got to be honest with you, man. I love
- 13:53Speaker 1: being able to talk to my fans on social media
- 13:55Speaker 1: and Facebook and Instagram, I love it. I went live
- 13:58Speaker 1: yesterday on Facebook. People was watching me. That's the most
- 14:03Speaker 1: people I've ever got a chance theater. It's amazing. It's amazing.
- 14:09Speaker 1: It's it's amazing when you realize you have that type
- 14:11Speaker 1: of marketing control. We're gonna be right back from in
- 14:15Speaker 1: this break, come back with my man, David A. Arnold.
- 14:17Speaker 1: He is an amazingly funny specially on Netflix. It's called
- 14:21Speaker 1: fat Ballerina. We will be right back with David. It's

- 16:24Speaker 1: This Rashan McDonald. You're listening to money making conversations on
- 16:27Speaker 1: the phone. Is David A on On. He has a
- 16:29Speaker 1: very very comedy special on Netflix called fat Ballerina is
- 16:34Speaker 1: produced under the banner of Kevin Hart. And we left
- 16:38Speaker 1: last we was talking about social media, the impact of
- 16:41Speaker 1: social media, the importance of social media. With that being said,
- 16:46Speaker 1: I look at Kevin Hart and I remember when I
- 16:48Speaker 1: was well, I remember wad watch him walk around in
- 16:52Speaker 1: the in the in the different clothes. He's always had
- 16:55Speaker 1: somebody walking with him with some camera who's always running
- 16:57Speaker 1: from club to club to club. That's why I remember
- 16:59Speaker 1: by yeah, and then and then then when I when
- 17:03Speaker 1: I when we cast him in the movie, UM thinking
- 17:05Speaker 1: like a man. The very first one UM he had
- 17:09Speaker 1: like about I wanted to say, he had like by
- 17:11Speaker 1: five million, talking about five million Facebook followers at the
- 17:16Speaker 1: time at the time, And I remember right right, you know,
- 17:21Speaker 1: I was just remember I was talking about Facebook because
- 17:22Speaker 1: he had all he had Twitter and Instagram. He had
- 17:24Speaker 1: everything okay, but and you said, Rashan, I picked up
- 17:28Speaker 1: twenty thousand followers on Sunday. Hmm right right, twenty thousands
- 17:34Speaker 1: followers in one day. That's what hard. Right then I
- 17:39Speaker 1: knew he was on to something to pick up twenty
- 17:42Speaker 1: followers in one day. And I say that it means
- 17:45Speaker 1: something and so and that's why he's a power broker
- 17:48Speaker 1: today because he controls his media. And so one of
- 17:52Speaker 1: the things that you know, I managed Steven A. Smith.
- 17:55Speaker 1: When we sat down and Stephen A. Smith was not
- 17:57Speaker 1: on Instagram at all. He was just a Twitter and
- 18:01Speaker 1: a Facebook guy, and I said, hey, man, here we
- 18:03Speaker 1: talk about opening a Twitter Instagram account. He said, he
- 18:06Speaker 1: Isn't that for young people? You think that's my market share?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Were two point eight million Instagram followers later, Yes it is,
- 18:13Speaker 1: Yes it is. And so now he is to following
- 18:16Speaker 1: in Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and so now he controls
- 18:22Speaker 1: his market share. And so when I stopped managing Steve
- 18:25Speaker 1: Harvey in one of the first things that I wanted
- 18:27Speaker 1: to do was because how create my own voice? David?
- 18:32Speaker 1: I wonder the was my voice? And people people always
- 18:34Speaker 1: look at me, go, we'll you're you're successful now I'm
- 18:37Speaker 1: successful with Steve Harvard. That's not my voice. That's not
- 18:41Speaker 1: my voice. I said, what what would make people follow me?
- 18:46Speaker 1: What would make people well? I could bake real good.
- 18:48Speaker 1: So I started baking everything. And every time I post
- 18:51Speaker 1: a bag, I get thousands to thousand likes. I'll go
- 18:55Speaker 1: viral by baking post. But that wasn't me, and so
- 18:58Speaker 1: I had to sit back. That was just a gift
- 19:00Speaker 1: that God gave me. And so I can sit back
- 19:02Speaker 1: and go, you know what I'm saying, that was just
- 19:04Speaker 1: a gift. And so a lot of people understand that
- 19:06Speaker 1: that might not be your in goal. But I always
- 19:09Speaker 1: tell people, if God gives you a window, why it please,
- 19:13Speaker 1: you know, look at it, Please open the please, And
- 19:16Speaker 1: that's what I did. I opened it and I started baking.
- 19:19Speaker 1: So I swear to you, I could be walking at
- 19:21Speaker 1: the mall. I could be walking. I was walking in
- 19:23Speaker 1: the Beverly Hills walking. This lady pulled down her roll
- 19:26Speaker 1: down that window said are you the baking guy? I go, wow,
- 19:32Speaker 1: are you? Yeah? Right? Right right right right, So so
- 19:41Speaker 1: so I was in the deult allowed this lady came
- 19:43Speaker 1: in to me, almost in tears. She was she worked
- 19:46Speaker 1: and she's a worker in the deult allowed she said.
- 19:49Speaker 1: She said, sir, I spoke to you when you when
- 19:51Speaker 1: you when you when you walk by, I go, uh,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I said hi back then she said, yes you did.
- 19:56Speaker 1: But what you didn't know? Are you the to get
- 20:00Speaker 1: who bakes? I go? I follow you, I follow you. Man,
- 20:06Speaker 1: this lady almost broke down the team to hug this lady.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I said, uh, I had to get up out of
- 20:11Speaker 1: my chair. Man. It's all right, you know. She said, Wow,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I can't believe a meeting you and I only bring
- 20:17Speaker 1: up these scenarios to show that that's the power of
- 20:19Speaker 1: controlling your own voice, and that's what you're talking about,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and the power of that translating to the person like me.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Ras Sean McDonald contacting you, saying, hey, man, I can't
- 20:30Speaker 1: believe I'm a fan watching this guy. It's a fan
- 20:35Speaker 1: and I'm telling my wife I know him, and she's
- 20:38Speaker 1: looking at me blowing me off. David, they are you
- 20:42Speaker 1: know Aaron? I know him. You know You're like, like,
- 20:48Speaker 1: what it's so dope for me is to watch everybody
- 20:51Speaker 1: the two worlds meet now because a lot of like
- 20:54Speaker 1: I told you, a lot of my fan base and
- 20:56Speaker 1: built lately dramatically in social media, Facebook and Instagram. So
- 21:00Speaker 1: now when I told them, hen, go watch my Netflix special,
- 21:04Speaker 1: they went watched it and then they were like, oh,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I didn't know you. I mean, I know you funny
- 21:08Speaker 1: on Instagram and Facebook, but I didn't know you're a
- 21:11Speaker 1: real stand up comedian. A lot of people don't know that.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I've been doing stand up for twenty four years and
- 21:16Speaker 1: this is not my first role. This is not my
- 21:18Speaker 1: first rodeo. This is the first national stage that I've
- 21:21Speaker 1: been on, and it's been dope, eat it eat like this.
- 21:24Speaker 1: This Netflix special idea I produced, I put I did
- 21:28Speaker 1: all of this myself. It's an independent project. It's not
- 21:32Speaker 1: a Netflix original. It is an independent project that they
- 21:36Speaker 1: licensed and they put up. And it's great for me
- 21:39Speaker 1: to go that thing on the second day started trending,
- 21:42Speaker 1: and it trended that number one first ten days that
- 21:45Speaker 1: it was out. It beat out the originals that they
- 21:47Speaker 1: are really and it makes me feel good finally get
- 21:54Speaker 1: something and get a moment where people go, this, dude
- 21:59Speaker 1: is good, and man, not only you good, but you
- 22:02Speaker 1: can never do another special in the comedy club. You
- 22:06Speaker 1: are Arenas and that brother, you are venues of three
- 22:08Speaker 1: thousand and more. That's where I need to see your
- 22:11Speaker 1: next special at because because you are, you are a star.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Temptell about stars. Stars can never be seen, can never
- 22:20Speaker 1: be touchable. I can't look down and and being able
- 22:24Speaker 1: to touch on one of my fans. I'm not a
- 22:26Speaker 1: star because see people, that's what people perceive. Security. You know,
- 22:31Speaker 1: way up there, they can you a little bit on
- 22:33Speaker 1: the stage. She stars. You know, that's what stars do.
- 22:37Speaker 1: They motivate people. Even though it's an inconvenience visually, you
- 22:42Speaker 1: still gotta be there to see you. So when you
- 22:44Speaker 1: do these specials, you know your next one, you're gonna
- 22:47Speaker 1: have another one. You gotta be in the vision already,
- 22:50Speaker 1: already the one there you go. You gotta be up
- 22:54Speaker 1: on the phone. Now, come on, come on, you gotta
- 22:57Speaker 1: be up there, look up there and point at somebody.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Look you're looking at around. That's what you gotta do, David,
- 23:02Speaker 1: because you already star. And the reason I say that, man,
- 23:05Speaker 1: because you're doing the comedy the way comedy is supposed
- 23:09Speaker 1: to be done. You know, the way Chris Rock do it,
- 23:13Speaker 1: the way Steve Hard would do it. Why Dave do it?
- 23:17Speaker 1: But when you're throwing those call backs. Brother, When you're
- 23:20Speaker 1: throwing those callbacks, man, I went this, brother can write this,
- 23:25Speaker 1: brother understands and his courageous in his stand up coming.
- 23:28Speaker 1: And I'm talking to David a. Arnold. He's the star
- 23:31Speaker 1: of the new Netflix hit the trended on Netflix called
- 23:34Speaker 1: Fact Ballerina, produced under the banner of Kevin Hart. I'm
- 23:38Speaker 1: throwing out your credits, brother, because you don't know who
- 23:40Speaker 1: might be listening to. Who are he talking to? It
- 23:43Speaker 1: sounds good talking to I'm talking to David An Okay,
- 23:48Speaker 1: so I've been listening to I've been listening to the
- 23:49Speaker 1: radio lot. I go, this sounds good, but who is
- 23:52Speaker 1: he talking to? You gotta up, you gotta kee it
- 23:56Speaker 1: up every five ten minutes to let him know. No, absolutely,
- 24:01Speaker 1: and so and so when I look at the opportunities
- 24:03Speaker 1: that you're bringing to the stage, I wanted to bring
- 24:05Speaker 1: up this whole, this whole moment when I talked to
- 24:07Speaker 1: your credits that you would when I said, you've trained
- 24:10Speaker 1: successful comedians, Yeah, tell us a lot, tell us about
- 24:13Speaker 1: that scenario, that part of your life. Um, okay, So
- 24:17Speaker 1: about ten years ago I started I created a stand
- 24:19Speaker 1: up comedy class. It's called the art of stand up comedy.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You can see you can get information on it if
- 24:25Speaker 1: you go to my website, which is David Ahanold dot
- 24:27Speaker 1: com and you can click on the class and you
- 24:29Speaker 1: can see this. I started doing that about ten years ago.
- 24:32Speaker 1: And I'll tell you why. In the beginning, I love
- 24:35Speaker 1: stand up. I love the art of stand up. And
- 24:38Speaker 1: when I moved here to Los Angeles, I moved here
- 24:40Speaker 1: with two trash bags of clothes, no car, not one
- 24:45Speaker 1: single friend, and two addresses to two comedy clubs, the
- 24:49Speaker 1: Comedy Store and the laugh Factory. And the only thing
- 24:52Speaker 1: I knew if I wanted to be a comedian. I
- 24:55Speaker 1: didn't have nobody to tell me you should go on
- 24:57Speaker 1: this day and you should talk to this person, you
- 24:59Speaker 1: should stay and here I didn't know nothing. So I
- 25:02Speaker 1: meandered and found my way by myself. And when I
- 25:07Speaker 1: got to a place where I felt like I had
- 25:11Speaker 1: some information to share, I decided to teach a class. Now,
- 25:15Speaker 1: in the beginning, I didn't want to teach a class
- 25:18Speaker 1: because they say those who teach teach because they cannot
- 25:21Speaker 1: do and that is that. That was my ego, saying, yeah,
- 25:27Speaker 1: that's true. I'm not teaching the classes he's gonna make
- 25:29Speaker 1: it look like a lot and gave up on trying
- 25:31Speaker 1: to be a comedian. So now I'm gonna teach other people.
- 25:34Speaker 1: But then I realized, no, no, I'm gonna break the mold.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I teach because I do, and I do well, and
- 25:42Speaker 1: I know what I'm doing. So when I changed my
- 25:46Speaker 1: mindset and I started to teach these classes, I don't
- 25:51Speaker 1: know what happened, but I can tell you now I
- 25:53Speaker 1: have the largest stand up comedy class in the country.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I have well over three d and fifty five people
- 25:59Speaker 1: on my waiting list when I opened up my class,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and I only do twenty people, and that sells out
- 26:06Speaker 1: within within the quickest it ever sold, I was thirty
- 26:09Speaker 1: seven minutes. The deceats the most of the Tamil averages
- 26:14Speaker 1: about two and a half hours, but the classes cute.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I can't teach you to be funny, that's in you
- 26:21Speaker 1: or not. But what I can show you is the
- 26:24Speaker 1: process in which I go through that I've been through
- 26:27Speaker 1: and that my friends go through to build an act,
- 26:30Speaker 1: to learn how to take this art of storytelling and
- 26:34Speaker 1: make it work for yourself. So you can do that.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Because most people that are comedians, they have no idea
- 26:40Speaker 1: how to construct a story and tell a story. They
- 26:43Speaker 1: just talking this. That's why you see a lot of
- 26:45Speaker 1: comedians that have great personality and they're very interesting to
- 26:50Speaker 1: look at, but they're not talking about ship and you
- 26:54Speaker 1: can't remember nothing they saying, you know what I mean. So, like,
- 26:58Speaker 1: I just started teaching the class and I wrote a
- 27:01Speaker 1: book called The Artist Stand Up Comedy, which I'm about
- 27:03Speaker 1: to be leave. Um it is it's I love doing it,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and people thought that I would stop doing it when
- 27:09Speaker 1: I started making money. And I ain't gonna be doing
- 27:11Speaker 1: that when you're making money and I still do the class.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I can't. I can't do it as often as I
- 27:16Speaker 1: used to because I'm more busy now, but I still
- 27:19Speaker 1: do it. I opened up and I started teaching people
- 27:21Speaker 1: on line. So I've worked with I worked with people
- 27:24Speaker 1: in England and Holland, in New Jersey, in Minnesota. If
- 27:28Speaker 1: you can get on stage and get online and send
- 27:30Speaker 1: me a set and I can look at it and
- 27:32Speaker 1: we can face time and talk about your work, you
- 27:35Speaker 1: can take my class. So it's been incredibly successful. It
- 27:39Speaker 1: was something that I didn't see coming and because it's
- 27:42Speaker 1: something that I love and I love talking about communito comedians.
- 27:46Speaker 1: We go to comedy clubs and work out, and then
- 27:50Speaker 1: we go to album student, to the diner or to
- 27:52Speaker 1: the restaurant and sit there and talk for another two
- 27:54Speaker 1: hours about stand up you know what I mean. Like
- 27:57Speaker 1: that's just when we knew so like this just lot
- 28:00Speaker 1: of me and gave I said, why don't I share
- 28:02Speaker 1: this information? The reason I charge you is because I'm
- 28:05Speaker 1: giving you twenty plus years of experience and I'm spending
- 28:08Speaker 1: time away from my family to give you something. So
- 28:12Speaker 1: that is what it's the cost of it. But now
- 28:14Speaker 1: with the Netflix special out and the success of my
- 28:17Speaker 1: producing career and people just seeing me perform, it's it's
- 28:22Speaker 1: it's unbelievable how great the class has been received and
- 28:28Speaker 1: the dope stuff that we're doing. I just love it, man,
- 28:31Speaker 1: I love it because it comes from my chest. Well,
- 28:33Speaker 1: the special is a fantastic I'm talking to David eight
- 28:37Speaker 1: On or stand up comic expert, actor writer. That's what
- 28:42Speaker 1: you call the triple threat. You know, I was that,
- 28:44Speaker 1: I was I was shitcome manager comic you know, as
- 28:50Speaker 1: a comedian is performed all over the country, various specials,
- 28:53Speaker 1: and uh, I know we got the pandemic right now
- 28:55Speaker 1: is shutting down a lot of opportunities right now. But
- 28:58Speaker 1: the beauty of it is that I saw you, man,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I saw you, and I just had to show your
- 29:03Speaker 1: love and respect and bring you on my show Conversations
- 29:06Speaker 1: and uh, tell the world you know that, you know,
- 29:11Speaker 1: you know. The amazing thing about this show, David, is
- 29:12Speaker 1: that so many people have told me how indirectly or
- 29:16Speaker 1: directly affected them and that it always catches me off. God,
- 29:19Speaker 1: because I'm always man that just uh, since i was
- 29:23Speaker 1: eighteen years old, I've always been paying it forward, you know.
- 29:26Speaker 1: And what I what I my computer classes or my
- 29:29Speaker 1: degree was in mathematics, helping people, trying to trying to
- 29:31Speaker 1: pull them up, trying to pull them up. And just
- 29:34Speaker 1: see that that that's still that's still part of your
- 29:36Speaker 1: your DNA with your class. Please do not stop your classes. Please,
- 29:40Speaker 1: that is part of your part. I will not stop them.
- 29:46Speaker 1: And if you guys want to, you should follow me
- 29:48Speaker 1: on Instagram and god David a Arnold or David a
- 29:51Speaker 1: Arnold on on Facebook and I'm across the board and
- 29:55Speaker 1: just you know, Twitter, all of it, and just go
- 29:57Speaker 1: for this ride. Man. I'm very excited about some of
- 30:00Speaker 1: the stuff that's coming up. I'm very excited about everything
- 30:04Speaker 1: I'm doing and I'm finally feeling like I'm getting a
- 30:08Speaker 1: little bit of a daylight to get shined on me
- 30:11Speaker 1: for the hard work that I've been doing. That and
- 30:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna take every piece of it. But no that
- 30:16Speaker 1: I got a whole lot of work to do. Still,
- 30:19Speaker 1: look here, a big fan. When you do that next special,
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's got to be in the arena, it gotta be
- 30:25Speaker 1: in front of you. Said that, that's what they told me. Somebody,
- 30:32Speaker 1: the person that called me told me the exact thing.
- 30:35Speaker 1: But it will be just what I do, David, David,
- 30:38Speaker 1: this is what will be. And I would tell you
- 30:41Speaker 1: Netflix is uh is the network he's streaming on. Very
- 30:45Speaker 1: special is produced by under the banner of Kevin Hard.
- 30:48Speaker 1: So you know it's fantastic. Because it's more even more
- 30:50Speaker 1: fantastic is that he's funny. He's a good looking guy.
- 30:54Speaker 1: He's a good looking guy. So that that helps. That
- 30:58Speaker 1: helps help, you know, you know what funny you're saying help.
- 31:03Speaker 1: But I could tell you many a time when it
- 31:05Speaker 1: is hurt. It's been an obstacle. People be like, who
- 31:08Speaker 1: is this light skin curly in Oh my god, David
- 31:17Speaker 1: Man hurt you back there. But brother, okay, the social media,
- 31:24Speaker 1: it's always nice to follow a good looking guy. Okay,
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'm just gonna let you know, my god, thanks for
- 31:31Speaker 1: taking the time to come on my show. I really
- 31:33Speaker 1: appreciate your patients. And uh tell sent me some banners, man,
- 31:36Speaker 1: some little snippets so I can post it on my
- 31:38Speaker 1: social media because I almost got I got eight hundred
- 31:40Speaker 1: thousand on my Facebook and I got my money making conversation.
- 31:44Speaker 1: So brother, look a here I heard. When we get
- 31:47Speaker 1: off the don't hang up what we get on. Let's talk. Okay,
- 31:50Speaker 1: my man, we do that all right, David. They thank
