- 0:15better way to start a new year than to journal to write down,
- 0:20what is it that you are envisioning for this year to
- 0:23come or for this year, that will be different.

- 0:32So this episode is dedicated to journaling.
- 0:36Pause the journal came out almost a year ago and it is such
- 0:41a powerful tool. That's why I created this
- 0:43episode really aligned and designed for corporate people,
- 0:47all of our peeps in the corporate world.
- 0:50We don't talk about journaling too much but believe it or not,
- 0:52I actually made this journal. There's a whole section in here
- 0:55and how to use it for teams. How you can use it to really
- 1:00Have a unified field so to speak where we're all working on the
- 1:04same goal or project, let's say. And you can actually all process
- 1:09it through journaling, whether its individual.
- 1:12And then you come together to talk about what that process is
- 1:15like. It's actually a really cool
- 1:16concept and I'm excited to hear if any of you are up for trying
- 1:18it. Well, let me know because I
- 1:21actually haven't heard of anyone using it in reporting back in
- 1:25the work world and I would love to find out.
- 1:27So, and with that, go ahead. Head and check out this episode,
- 1:32which is all about using journaling as a power tool.

- 2:37can. All learn.
- 2:38And that's what the paws cast is all about.
- 2:46Well, I again, Rachel here, and today, I am excited to talk
- 2:51about why journaling is a power tool for leaders.
- 2:55It's a power tool for everyone but really for corporate world.
- 2:59Leaders Executives. My sense is it gives you an edge
- 3:03that will help you be more strategic, be more, productive
- 3:07be more, clear and confident everything you do no joke.
- 3:11So let's jump into why journaling is a power tool for
- 3:13you as a leader in the world of corporate.
- 3:17And if you don't know this, I have a journal called pause the
- 3:21journal. I have it right here.
- 3:23In front of me, it's called pause the journal.
- 3:26It came out this February and it's about how to use
- 3:30intentional writing to create your dreams.
- 3:32It's 90 days of journaling and prompts and blank pages, so that
- 3:38you can maximize this as a power tool.
- 3:41So, if you're who's Journal Journal fan these days, who here
- 3:45is a fan, just let me no, give yourself a high five in the air
- 3:49or pat on the back. If you are Journal, are right
- 3:51now, maybe you're more like me. Like, literally, I am
- 3:54intermittent journal or some people are intermittent.
- 3:56Fasters, I'm an intimate and journal or meaning.
- 3:59I'll go journal for, like, 10 days and I won't journal for
- 4:02like a little while, and then I'll go back in, and I'll do
- 4:04like four days. And then I want you at all, or
- 4:05maybe I'll do a couple days, but I really just depends on my
- 4:08needs, and I know, I sense when I need it.
- 4:12So whether you're a intermittent journal or like me, or Journal
- 4:15fan, Fnatic are you just kind of like nope, journaling is not my
- 4:19thing. It's all good.
- 4:21And and if you actually on that side of the spectrum where
- 4:25you're saying, yeah you know what if it's just not for me,
- 4:28cool, like I love that you're here.
- 4:29Even to be open to possibilities of what's different.
- 4:32Because what I'm going to share with you, my just tempt you to
- 4:35try it again. Okay.
- 4:37So here's what's going on with journaling and I think this stat
- 4:41speaks for itself, but overall when you Journal your well-being
- 4:45and your mute mood can Can improve.
- 4:47And what that means is we've, we've actually had research done
- 4:53where if you journal for, as little as two minutes a day for
- 4:59even two consecutive days then in actually has to be
- 5:04emotionally significant for you, right?
- 5:06So it's not like, I went to the store, I bought bread, I came
- 5:09home and went to bed, like, that's a little dry, right?
- 5:13So it's literally like timer for 2 minutes.
- 5:16Did you experience today and how did it emotionally significant?
- 5:20How was it emotionally significant for you research
- 5:23tells us that it improves your mood and well-being.
- 5:26I think that's pretty amazing eyesight that all the time and
- 5:30it's true, right? So we're actually allowing our
- 5:33brains to design our future which is actually the next
- 5:37reason why it's a power tool. When you write about what you've
- 5:40done in the day or your experience is, or even imagining
- 5:44how you want to feel or be in your day, and that's what the
- 5:47world of positive journals. All about, then you are creating
- 5:51a terrific way and I'm actually a little conduit in the past to
- 5:56be intentional with yourself so that you're set up for success.
- 5:59And I think about this like visioning, right, we all know
- 6:01this from the athletic World athletes Vision there, a race,
- 6:05their game, their pregame race right when they're back.
- 6:08Back on the floor, doing nothing other than visualizing, they see
- 6:11themselves out there in the field, doing their race winning,
- 6:16doing what they need to do going through those motions.
- 6:18And that's exactly what the journaling provides for you,
- 6:21right? You can design your future, I
- 6:23think that's awesome. When you Journal, you can
- 6:27literally drop in and be more present.
- 6:30You can notice using your five senses and write that down,
- 6:33right? So what do you experience about
- 6:35your day? It actually allows you to be
- 6:37more creative as well. And you cannot, you cannot only
- 6:41have to describe what happened but you get to share.
- 6:43What happened? Maybe you felt more excited and
- 6:45you say that maybe you felt nervous, maybe maybe you were
- 6:49hungry, right? It's just about how did it make
- 6:51you feel and giving yourself that?
- 6:54That platform for literally free form drawing or writing and see
- 7:00what appears there might be Visions.
- 7:03You have or like you let yourself doodle and you could
- 7:06just come into that space, the really excellent ways to just
- 7:11prime your your creativity as well as be present when you
- 7:15Journal another reason it's a power tool.
- 7:18Is it activates new neural circuitry.
- 7:20I think that's really really awesome and you may know or
- 7:23heard of the author. Henriette and clauser, she wrote
- 7:27a book called, write it down, make it happen.
- 7:30And what she says is that when we write it stimulates a bunch
- 7:34of cells in the brain called the res, the rectangular activating
- 7:38system. And what that does is it
- 7:40actually signals to to our cerebral cortex in the brain to
- 7:44wake up and pay attention. So literally, when you are
- 7:47writing your telling your brain, hey, wake up.
- 7:50Wake up, wake up, wake up. This is important and that's the
- 7:53process of writing. That's why.
- 7:54It's important when people think about well, should I write this
- 7:56in a Google doc? Or should I put it on paper?
- 7:59I always say put it on paper because you're telling your
- 8:03brain, it's important. So when you have your to-do
- 8:04list, you're going to pay more attention to it when it's
- 8:07literally in a notebook versus on a Google doc because your
- 8:10brain is signifying. Oh, this matters and then you're
- 8:12going to retain it. You're going to remember it more
- 8:15and that's the same for your Journal.
- 8:18You're going to carve these new Pathways.
- 8:19Isn't that cool? I love that.
- 8:22When you Journal, another reason and this pathway is that it
- 8:26increases by one. Well it didn't increase, but I
- 8:29would say just accesses your innate gifts.
- 8:33And I love this because again, I'm going to cite someone here.
- 8:37I her name is Judith. Blackstone who wrote belonging
- 8:40here a guide for the spiritually sensitive person.
- 8:44She talks, she talks about the realization process, and this is
- 8:47what journaling facilitates what she says is that this process
- 8:52leverages an individual's innate physical and spiritual gifts.
- 8:57She also says that when we use these gifts as entryways into
- 9:02both, A human connection and with ourselves in our innermost
- 9:06selves, our physical presence and engagement with others
- 9:09deepens. Isn't that cool?
- 9:11So, when you're actually journaling, you're paying it
- 9:14forward in a way where you're going to be more present and
- 9:18accessing, these gifts that are going to be more apparent for
- 9:20others as you're with them, not just for you, but for others.
- 9:23Oh my gosh. I'm getting excited.
- 9:25I'm getting more excited. I just want to journal as I'm
- 9:26saying all this. So what are you thinking?
- 9:29Actually right now is your shit. As you're hearing me, this is
- 9:32you kind of like it. 14. Well, what will this mean for
- 9:34me? What if I do try this?
- 9:35What if I want to do it now? I hope you're getting as excited
- 9:37as I am. Okay, another awesome.
- 9:41Power tool is a journaling, helps you develop more
- 9:44self-compassion. Awesome.
- 9:46I love that. Right.
- 9:47So knowing that you're with yourself in this moment, any
- 9:51given moment and you can still Journal a little bit on
- 9:54autopilot, but the idea is like, when you're fully present for
- 9:56it, instead of having that day to day to do list or something,
- 10:01You can be here now. Oh boy, and be here.
- 10:04Now, anyone know this, this phrase be here.
- 10:08Now it was a book title. Anyone anyone book title from
- 10:14the late Ram, Dass he wrote a book, titled be here now and it
- 10:19was bad. It was back in 1971.
- 10:23And I want to just read this to you because I find it very
- 10:26inspiring for myself just be here.
- 10:29Now, this is what does rights just be here?
- 10:31Now, reflect on the thought that if you are truly here and now a
- 10:37it is enough and be, you will have Optimum power and
- 10:42understanding to do the best thing at the given moment.
- 10:45Thus, when then meaning the future becomes.
- 10:50Now, if you have learned this discipline, You will then be in
- 10:54an ideal position to do the best thing.
- 10:57So you need not spend your time worrying about then right?
- 11:04Meaning the past. So that's from Ram Dass.
- 11:06That's a quote. It's in pause the journal and
- 11:08reading it to you right now on page 3, if you've got it handy
- 11:12and self-compassion to me is a window into so much depth that
- 11:18you can access where we can build and bring in more self
- 11:22care for ourselves. Selves and things like that.
- 11:25You can make more of your subconscious conscious and who
- 11:28doesn't want to do that. So according to research, we
- 11:31have 50 trillion cells in our body, OK, 50 trillion and your
- 11:37unconscious mind is, uh, is actually meaning your
- 11:42subconscious mind. Really whether you call it,
- 11:44subconscious unconscious, it's 95%.
- 11:49It's 95% of the time on meaning, you're only conscious five
- 11:53percent of the time. So that's what we're working.
- 11:55From the ground up, okay. So know that you're already
- 11:58mostly subconscious. And this unconscious mind is a
- 12:02million times more powerful than your conscious mind, which is
- 12:05why it's so present and available in.
- 12:09That's how we work in the routines, the patterns, the
- 12:12things we don't even think about 95% of the time.
- 12:15You're conscious Minds, prefrontal cortex alone,
- 12:18processes 40 nerve, impulses per second.
- 12:21Well, 90% of your unconscious brain processes. 40 million
- 12:26nerves in pulses per second. Whoa.
- 12:28So that's 40 nerve. Pulses on the frontal lobe
- 12:32versus 40 million nerve, impulses per second.
- 12:35It's basically, I don't even know, like 10 million times
- 12:39faster, basically, and your unconscious brain.
- 12:41This means obviously that were ruled by our subconscious
- 12:43behaviors unless we do something about it.
- 12:46Your journaling takes that into account, so that it takes
- 12:50inventory. When you're writing in, what's
- 12:51going on in your head, but surfaces insights, to your
- 12:54subconscious. Spray and you otherwise wouldn't
- 12:56have well like news flash. What amazing information is
- 13:00that. So there you go.
- 13:02Those are some amazing reasons why it's a power tool and
- 13:04remember my friends you are Limitless.
- 13:08You can use your Journal as a power tool at any time at any
- 13:11day for you. You can dig deep and use
- 13:16journaling as a way to access that, right?
- 13:19And then I love this thought to know as and write as if your
- 13:23dreams depended on it, right? As if your dreams depended on
- 13:26it. So what?
- 13:27If your transformation depended on you writing down?
- 13:29What's going on for you now so that you can process it move in
- 13:33a new place. Mmm.
- 13:35So so good. Are you a journal or was this
- 13:37helpful? I would love to know.
- 13:39Leave me a message here. You can audio message me.
- 13:42Just your thoughts or Journal about it, maybe Journal about
- 13:45this episode, hey, what a great idea and have fun with
- 13:49journaling. It really is a way to
- 13:50intentionally right to create your dreams and that's what I
- 13:53truly believe is that all of us can reach our dreams, but we're
- 13:56blocking ourselves and that's why none of us are really living
- 13:59our dreams. Probably probably have some
- 14:00dreams that you would write down that aren't happening right now.
- 14:04I know I do and it's because of my unconscious beliefs in the
- 14:07blocks that I'm always working on.
- 14:09So thanks everyone. Hope you have a great day and
