- 1:40Speaker 1: can hear you. Now introduce you man, you just sat
- 1:42Speaker 1: down with girlis I don't know. I don't know if
- 1:44Speaker 1: I put the pup up screen on it and I see,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I see the picture in the background, all that good stuff, Curtis,
- 1:51Speaker 1: How you doing that? Sir, Mr HBCU, Mr b Et,
- 1:55Speaker 1: Mr Producer, A great weekend. I gotta tell you what,
- 1:58Speaker 1: shot is honored to be on your show. That I've
- 2:00Speaker 1: heard a lot about the show, and I know you
- 2:02Speaker 1: very well man, and I'm looking forward to diving into conversations.
- 2:06Speaker 1: See we come up with the day. Well, you know
- 2:08Speaker 1: the thing about it is that we've talked previously when
- 2:11Speaker 1: you we we sat down and talked about the brand
- 2:13Speaker 1: of HBCU and how I can come into you know,
- 2:16Speaker 1: help grow this brand. And it excites me because HBCUs.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I didn't go to then HBCU school. I graduated from
- 2:23Speaker 1: University of Houston right down the street from Texas Southern
- 2:26Speaker 1: University and Third War Texas. So I appreciate that. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: appreciate because my passion and what I'm trying to do
- 2:33Speaker 1: and what I want to use the skills that God
- 2:35Speaker 1: gave me is when I'm bringing to the table and
- 2:38Speaker 1: that's marketing in branding, that's something I do very naturally.
- 2:41Speaker 1: When I look at a brand like HBCU, which for
- 2:44Speaker 1: some reason and has exploded on the landscape, why do
- 2:49Speaker 1: you feel that you know it's been struggling that funding
- 2:53Speaker 1: every year? Compress do you want to fund it? Then?
- 2:55Speaker 1: And then you know President Donald Trumps is taking claim
- 2:58Speaker 1: for like resurrect in hbc USED. If it went to
- 3:02Speaker 1: him in twenty eighteen in September, it wouldn't be an
- 3:04Speaker 1: HBC You find the program happening right now, hbc US
- 3:09Speaker 1: being so popularized in well, I think that you know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: with all the un wrestled we've had in this current time,
- 3:17Speaker 1: looking at where there should be some growth and where
- 3:20Speaker 1: there should be some responsible But I think it peels
- 3:23Speaker 1: back to the HBC circle. And I think when people
- 3:27Speaker 1: really dive in and really look at what HBC schools
- 3:31Speaker 1: have done over the years and creating some of the
- 3:33Speaker 1: great educational folks, political folks, and attain us UH sports athletes,
- 3:39Speaker 1: the hold nine yards has now become a better appreciation
- 3:43Speaker 1: across the board for what these schools have met. And
- 3:45Speaker 1: now you know, more people are looking at it. You know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: not one sided that it had been looked at for
- 3:50Speaker 1: a while because when you look at the great thing
- 3:53Speaker 1: about the HBC US in the sixties and seventies, that's
- 3:56Speaker 1: only where African Americans could go to PW. But many
- 4:00Speaker 1: white institutions got very smart and said, look appeally on
- 4:03Speaker 1: the athletics side, you know, we got to start incorporating
- 4:05Speaker 1: more of the African Americans into our schools. And because
- 4:09Speaker 1: they could provide the visibility that African American schools could not,
- 4:13Speaker 1: a lot of athletes jumped aboard. But now what's happening is,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know people are understanding, look it ain't all about
- 4:19Speaker 1: the money, It's more about the experience. And then we
- 4:22Speaker 1: can start really you know, pushing more of the experience
- 4:25Speaker 1: of HBCUs and really show people who have come out
- 4:29Speaker 1: of there, who who have survived. You know, that I
- 4:32Speaker 1: think is really gonna be icing on the cake. And
- 4:35Speaker 1: I think now that it's become very apparent that these
- 4:39Speaker 1: schools are playing prominent role in educational African American kids.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You know, more more people now starting to pay attention
- 4:46Speaker 1: to saying we've got to have more HBCU stuff, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: we've got to spend more time in driving the value
- 4:51Speaker 1: and exposure of these schools. That's one of the things
- 4:53Speaker 1: that I'm trying to do. HBC You Go TV. Now
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know the vision leading Media, eliminating divorced and the
- 5:00Speaker 1: experience of the hundred and seven is hundred and four
- 5:03Speaker 1: that accredited hbc US. And then the mission is to
- 5:06Speaker 1: increase brand awareness and support the sustainability of hbc USE
- 5:10Speaker 1: by making a meaningful financial contributions to the population of
- 5:13Speaker 1: these American institutions of higher learning. There are two days
- 5:16Speaker 1: of vision and the mission h HPC you Go TV.
- 5:20Speaker 1: How did they start though? Talk about your career, what
- 5:23Speaker 1: gives you credibility. You just hopped on the machine. First
- 5:25Speaker 1: of all, I know you with HC and I think
- 5:27Speaker 1: one of the one of the things that helped me
- 5:29Speaker 1: tremendously the shines. I grew up on the campus of
- 5:32Speaker 1: Subchial State University. My mother taught there before the year.
- 5:36Speaker 1: The father worked in for fifty years in the maintenance department,
- 5:39Speaker 1: So I had an opportunity to be in the bloodline.
- 5:42Speaker 1: I ended up my mother graduated from such a state
- 5:44Speaker 1: and I ended up graduating from such a state, and
- 5:46Speaker 1: also my sister graduated the Cuil State. So I had
- 5:49Speaker 1: the experience of you know, coming and living and being
- 5:52Speaker 1: part of that blood line of HBCUs. But then when
- 5:55Speaker 1: I got into the marketing side of the media business
- 5:59Speaker 1: and were for a cable system for for many years,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and I worked for ESPN, and then I got into
- 6:05Speaker 1: b T right, one of the biggest things I saw
- 6:09Speaker 1: was the lack of exposure for these universities because no
- 6:13Speaker 1: one really was really trying to help. In my old
- 6:15Speaker 1: days of BAT, when I came on the we really
- 6:19Speaker 1: were the anchors behind black college sports, and we did
- 6:22Speaker 1: that for almost ten years. But then, you know, we
- 6:24Speaker 1: were ahead of our time, and our guys didn't know
- 6:27Speaker 1: really how to sell it. And coming out of ESPN,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know, and being a sports nutter, I was really
- 6:32Speaker 1: pushing black college sports like there was no no tomorrow.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Because when I first came on board and BT we
- 6:37Speaker 1: were we were doing a week long tip take de
- 6:39Speaker 1: lay on the game, and I found it for Bob
- 6:41Speaker 1: to do live gates, you know. And then finally we
- 6:44Speaker 1: just got out there where the advertising world couldn't really
- 6:48Speaker 1: understand black college sports and they didn't want to put money,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and so it didn't enable us to continue with it,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but we knew there was a value there and that's
- 6:56Speaker 1: where other services started to the devonnant and now ESPN
- 7:01Speaker 1: has jumped in it. But what ABC you Go is
- 7:03Speaker 1: gonna do is that we're gonna be a part of
- 7:05Speaker 1: that because you know, as I've told the HBC schools
- 7:09Speaker 1: is like, you know, why are you letting just one
- 7:11Speaker 1: network control your visibility when you look at the Power
- 7:16Speaker 1: fives and you look at you know, other conferences they
- 7:19Speaker 1: got two and three media partners. Absolutely, you know. Now
- 7:22Speaker 1: you know, the the commissioners are getting smarter. They're looking
- 7:25Speaker 1: at ways in which they can drive expose you're looking
- 7:27Speaker 1: at way more they ways they can you know, bring
- 7:30Speaker 1: revenue to the universities, to their presidents. And so the
- 7:33Speaker 1: doors starting to crack. And now with HBC, you starting
- 7:38Speaker 1: to pick up some top name recruits like Howard picked
- 7:42Speaker 1: up making the basketball players seven footer. Uh, there's others.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Other players have gone on different places that have been
- 7:48Speaker 1: top recruis. And now the doors starting to slide open,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and which is gonna make you know, these schools become
- 7:55Speaker 1: very very attractive now on the agency go, but to
- 7:58Speaker 1: other people because as they want to see these young
- 8:01Speaker 1: this young challenge, and they're also gonna get a chance
- 8:04Speaker 1: to really expose themselves to some great challenge. At the
- 8:07Speaker 1: end of the day, let's talk about this stay in
- 8:09Speaker 1: the sports lane because we talked about SEC Conference and
- 8:13Speaker 1: Power five. I'm a software swack guy, you know Texas
- 8:18Speaker 1: Southern Preview, Grammar's Southern or the whole area over there.
- 8:22Speaker 1: That's me. Then I find out that but Thune Cookman
- 8:27Speaker 1: is coming to the swap. Then I find out fair
- 8:30Speaker 1: Mute is coming to the swag. See that's that feels
- 8:33Speaker 1: like the Black SEC to me, and that's what you're
- 8:37Speaker 1: talking about. Then you know, I was just talking to
- 8:39Speaker 1: Charlom Cullen, who is the commissioner of the SWAG, and
- 8:42Speaker 1: I think you're right on point. I mean, I try
- 8:44Speaker 1: to convince the conferences almost eight years ago because I
- 8:50Speaker 1: was really the one that brought up black college sports
- 8:53Speaker 1: to ESPN because I was consulting with him at the time,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and I was the one behind the SWAG of the
- 8:59Speaker 1: me act. Charlote ended up in Florida. But one of
- 9:02Speaker 1: the things I was trying to convince the AFC schools
- 9:06Speaker 1: early on was to make a power conference, but they
- 9:09Speaker 1: just couldn't get it. But now you're right, I think
- 9:12Speaker 1: that SWACK is on something, man, And then I think
- 9:15Speaker 1: they're building something that's gonna make it very, very track.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And I think what's gonna happen is SWACK is gonna
- 9:20Speaker 1: be decoference that everybody's gonna look at it, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: as far as really doing sports with and see if
- 9:27Speaker 1: they become one of the power you know, it's within
- 9:30Speaker 1: black houge sports. And I think they will. I'm thin
- 9:32Speaker 1: because they picked up, like you just said, the film
- 9:34Speaker 1: come with Fami, you you know, and I think there's
- 9:36Speaker 1: gonna be others that's gonna sprinkle over with powerhouse, even
- 9:39Speaker 1: in in in the middle level compass who are doing well,
- 9:42Speaker 1: who're gonna try to sneak in and really try to
- 9:44Speaker 1: make it a strong conference before it's all over. We're
- 9:46Speaker 1: talking about I think it. I think that's that's opportunity there.
- 9:49Speaker 1: We're talking about legacy football program, athletic program, band program,
- 9:55Speaker 1: were talking about band Bam, Mute what I'm saying. We're
- 9:58Speaker 1: already knowing the Squack is always had the gramblin Southern game.
- 10:03Speaker 1: There has been broadcast for years on NBC. So that's
- 10:06Speaker 1: what happened. That's always been like the Notre Dame game
- 10:09Speaker 1: on NBC for black sports. And so there's already media heritage,
- 10:15Speaker 1: media media lineage for the Squack program. And I look
- 10:19Speaker 1: like it because we have to start being smart and
- 10:22Speaker 1: realize we have economic dollars. If you want to get
- 10:24Speaker 1: the recruits, then you have to generate energy. If you're saying, man,
- 10:27Speaker 1: the Swack is the best place to come or you're
- 10:30Speaker 1: gonna be the best athletes, that's what's happening right now,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Jackson State. That's come on. Now, that's all I'm saying.
- 10:39Speaker 1: That's swack. That's that's spark ability right there. I mean
- 10:43Speaker 1: that spark ability. So you can talk to both Champ
- 10:46Speaker 1: coaching his son, his same his son, his son who
- 10:53Speaker 1: was a four star recruit was just d D A
- 10:57Speaker 1: D committed from the Florida school not going to act
- 11:00Speaker 1: in state exactly, and he was incredible and that and
- 11:03Speaker 1: I think that's the train you're gonna see on on
- 11:05Speaker 1: that astronomy. I think that you know, they're gonna be
- 11:08Speaker 1: it's gonna be many more like that. They're gonna start,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you know, drifting into because look, the bottom line is, man,
- 11:16Speaker 1: these young folks in football and basketball, they want to
- 11:19Speaker 1: get to the next level right right right now, that's
- 11:22Speaker 1: the whole thing. And and if we're able to begin
- 11:26Speaker 1: to start showing them through HBCU that you can get there,
- 11:31Speaker 1: right I think that's gonna be the doing. And I
- 11:33Speaker 1: think now the where the direction is moving, you know,
- 11:37Speaker 1: more and more kids will realized. And look, you know,
- 11:39Speaker 1: I asked the question too, Jalen Rose years ago when
- 11:43Speaker 1: when the Fat five you know, uh tape came out,
- 11:46Speaker 1: when they did the Fat five taket, and I said, Jayden,
- 11:49Speaker 1: if you would have took the Fat five to an HBCU,
- 11:52Speaker 1: do you think there have been different to taken it
- 11:54Speaker 1: to Michigan. He said, mancurse, I never thought about it
- 11:57Speaker 1: like that. I said, yeah, because all you wanna do
- 11:59Speaker 1: is it to the next level. And I want before
- 12:01Speaker 1: what it does that was before one and does. So
- 12:05Speaker 1: now you take that same model and move that into
- 12:08Speaker 1: an HBCU, everybody would want to come televise them, right,
- 12:12Speaker 1: everybody would follow them, right, and they would they would
- 12:15Speaker 1: become the team and the HBCUs and everybody w jumped
- 12:18Speaker 1: on right, you know the new question. So with the
- 12:22Speaker 1: the the the rays of awareness of Jackson State with
- 12:25Speaker 1: with a dion for example, right, only opens up more
- 12:29Speaker 1: doors to HBCUs and and that and that's what we
- 12:32Speaker 1: gotta start taking advantage of it. The biggest thing that
- 12:35Speaker 1: we've got to take advantage of, Sean is Dad, We've
- 12:38Speaker 1: got to move HBCUs schools into thinking business and not
- 12:42Speaker 1: just education. Right. That's one of the biggest things that
- 12:46Speaker 1: I'm trying to work come into hbc goach. I'm trying
- 12:49Speaker 1: to constantly bring them ideas of how to grow their
- 12:54Speaker 1: enrollment through bringing in some businesses that will support them
- 12:58Speaker 1: in order to grow the enrollment, because that's not the
- 13:01Speaker 1: way they think going in the door. Well his appears
- 13:04Speaker 1: and you're absolutely right, Uh, Notre Dame football is what
- 13:08Speaker 1: drives there, Rollman, Penn State, Alabama, University of Texas, these
- 13:14Speaker 1: are usc all, these are prominent programs. The drive enrollment
- 13:20Speaker 1: and it's it's really it's interesting because the academic success
- 13:23Speaker 1: of HBCUs is unquestionably an amazing story in itself, that
- 13:29Speaker 1: they're not even recognized because what because the athletic program,
- 13:32Speaker 1: which were the dominant voice in the sixties before integration happened.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And you know that, Kurt, you know that the way
- 13:39Speaker 1: they are black athletes and hall of fame. I think
- 13:41Speaker 1: it's over thirty two hbc U UH players who are
- 13:46Speaker 1: in the Professional Football Hall of Fame and so so
- 13:50Speaker 1: now let's look at that. Now. That's why I think
- 13:52Speaker 1: it's important that the Dion Sanders is at Jackson State
- 13:55Speaker 1: because then he's gonna he's gonna bring in athletes, which
- 13:59Speaker 1: means that a fan base and the alumni base will
- 14:02Speaker 1: get re e generally re energized. And that's what we're
- 14:07Speaker 1: which is needed, which is needed because right now, let's
- 14:09Speaker 1: talk about let's talk about a spc U s they
- 14:11Speaker 1: known for the band and if they got a good
- 14:14Speaker 1: football team, and then the academics is third. And I
- 14:17Speaker 1: think what happens is as black people, we always fight
- 14:22Speaker 1: that monica that we're more than just athletes, were just
- 14:25Speaker 1: more than physical objects. And so that's the fight that
- 14:29Speaker 1: you were talking about right now, is exactly we want
- 14:32Speaker 1: to be able to recognize for our intellect and not
- 14:35Speaker 1: because we can entertained and not because we can perform
- 14:39Speaker 1: on an athletic platform. And so that's the dream, that's
- 14:43Speaker 1: the right on point. Yea, that's that's what yours right
- 14:46Speaker 1: with my my personal myself. You know, I've been trying
- 14:49Speaker 1: to show young man and young ladies like listen, I
- 14:52Speaker 1: came out of the state with a physical education major,
- 14:56Speaker 1: PE major. Right, I've been the marketing guy since I've
- 14:59Speaker 1: been in the busines US thirty some plus years. You know,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'm going into the biggest hall of fame of the
- 15:06Speaker 1: media industry, broadcasting and cable next years, going into a
- 15:11Speaker 1: Hall of fame major. Let me bring that up. Don't
- 15:14Speaker 1: be just just throwing out that information. That's valuable information.
- 15:17Speaker 1: They're one of my questions. Let me set that up.
- 15:20Speaker 1: You're just jumping out there just casually throwing it out. Now,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I stand interview with people that know more information and
- 15:27Speaker 1: just be putting it out ahead of time. We're stealing
- 15:30Speaker 1: eight PCU. Now you have jumped into this legendary honor
- 15:33Speaker 1: that you're getting in twenty twenty one. Well since year,
- 15:36Speaker 1: open your mouth, Curtis, tell us about this honor that
- 15:39Speaker 1: you're getting in twenty twenty one. That's one of the
- 15:41Speaker 1: biggest the opportunities you can get in media. Talk about
- 15:44Speaker 1: that broadcasting. You know, I appreciate that. I mean, you know,
- 15:49Speaker 1: it's you know, it's it's always an honor when you
- 15:53Speaker 1: have your colleagues, you know, nominates you as one of
- 15:57Speaker 1: the best in the business. And I really of a
- 16:00Speaker 1: one of the things that has been my my real
- 16:02Speaker 1: headache over my years is that I never really taken
- 16:06Speaker 1: advantage of my network like I should have. I've had
- 16:09Speaker 1: more people always say to me, hey man, I don't
- 16:11Speaker 1: think you realize how much you bring to the table,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and you undervalue yourself a lot. Well, this honor Rashane
- 16:19Speaker 1: next year is one that I've been seeking for like
- 16:22Speaker 1: the last twenty years because I thought that I gave
- 16:25Speaker 1: a lot to the industry. And one of the things
- 16:27Speaker 1: that I wrote a part of a book I wrote
- 16:30Speaker 1: a while a couple of years back called as a
- 16:34Speaker 1: Gamble and a HBCUs are shure back within that I
- 16:38Speaker 1: talked a lot about during that time, Rashan. One of
- 16:41Speaker 1: the things that I think we all get, we all
- 16:44Speaker 1: have overside us is not recognizing and dealing with our
- 16:48Speaker 1: family the way it is because your family is all
- 16:51Speaker 1: you have. Man, at the end of the day, somebody have, man,
- 16:53Speaker 1: and my family went and fought with me thinking thin.
- 16:57Speaker 1: You know, I put my family at times, and it's
- 16:58Speaker 1: a rough box because I'm working night and day, traveling
- 17:01Speaker 1: all the time, missing things, you know, And you know
- 17:06Speaker 1: that's a big thing now to me. And so to
- 17:09Speaker 1: be honored and see all the sacrifice of my family
- 17:12Speaker 1: went through in order for me to obtain hon't like
- 17:15Speaker 1: this next year. It's big for me, man, It's very
- 17:18Speaker 1: big for me. And also too, you know, have many
- 17:22Speaker 1: of my peers who have now called me and saying, man,
- 17:24Speaker 1: this is over to man, you should have got this
- 17:26Speaker 1: thing a long time ago. Man. You know, I'm just
- 17:29Speaker 1: shocked that it's taking this long. Begin And I give
- 17:32Speaker 1: him you know, the I forgot it was uh in
- 17:37Speaker 1: the NFL who it took him a long time. You know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I just said, listen, you know, the whole thing is
- 17:42Speaker 1: I taught I was talking to be patients. You know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: patients is the world of life. You know, if you
- 17:48Speaker 1: know you've done something right, somebody would reward you down
- 17:51Speaker 1: the road. And so you know, this reward is you know,
- 17:56Speaker 1: the tip of the iceberg in the industry, you know.
- 17:59Speaker 1: And I didn't realize how big it was until I
- 18:01Speaker 1: saw all the people who got honored in front of
- 18:03Speaker 1: the African American like Oprah, Bob Johnson, you know, and
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm and I'm like the third within all of BT
- 18:10Speaker 1: to get on it, you know. So it's a big stuff, man,

- 20:12Speaker 1: E R. Dot ai. Now it takes a big of
- 20:17Speaker 1: the knowledge because I want to slide back to getting
- 20:20Speaker 1: on the real Ku platform. Yep, getting the streaming because
- 20:25Speaker 1: let's look at BT. BT is a traditional cable network,
- 20:28Speaker 1: which means they have to have twenty four hours of programming,
- 20:32Speaker 1: seven days a week. And that's why sometimes you look
- 20:34Speaker 1: at the network like a BT and they got paid
- 20:36Speaker 1: program and it has nothing to do with BT coming
- 20:39Speaker 1: around in early out. What advantages is it streaming and
- 20:43Speaker 1: expenses of money financially versus doing a cable network launch
- 20:49Speaker 1: versus doing extreaming network launch. Well, one of the things
- 20:53Speaker 1: that everyone's finding out is that the world of media
- 20:57Speaker 1: is changing. Shine as we all know, you know, one
- 21:00Speaker 1: is really watching and you know our kids are not
- 21:02Speaker 1: watching television anymore. Our kids are watching their phones. The
- 21:04Speaker 1: iPads and the computers and the digital world really allows
- 21:09Speaker 1: them to get a faster hit than just watching line
- 21:12Speaker 1: your TV. Right, And so the digital over the OLDT
- 21:17Speaker 1: T platforms that we're on over what they called over
- 21:19Speaker 1: the top digital platforms, which is faster. And the fact
- 21:23Speaker 1: that you can get information, you know, more Bible information
- 21:26Speaker 1: at a timely basis is just the way of the world, man,
- 21:29Speaker 1: and the way that you know, in my audience that
- 21:31Speaker 1: I'm trying to reach out to, which is the HBC
- 21:33Speaker 1: students and alumni, and we're trying to get the you know,
- 21:37Speaker 1: must coutural audiences to be involved with it. You know,
- 21:40Speaker 1: a lot of this world is watching everything on the computer,
- 21:44Speaker 1: the phone and the iPad. So less cost. You know,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I don't have to buy Big dishan to get my
- 21:50Speaker 1: network up. You know, I could just do it technology.
- 21:53Speaker 1: But it was a lot less cost. And that's really
- 21:55Speaker 1: what it boils down to you. I mean, today's to
- 21:58Speaker 1: build a linear network like a BT, it's cost you
- 22:02Speaker 1: millions and millions of dollars. Where to do a digital network.
- 22:06Speaker 1: You know, I don't need a million dollars like to
- 22:09Speaker 1: have it, but I can get it up without having
- 22:11Speaker 1: to spend a ton of money to get it up
- 22:13Speaker 1: and going and keep and keep productive. So and that's
- 22:16Speaker 1: really what it's all about, you know. And so if
- 22:18Speaker 1: you can make your program, you can grow your content
- 22:22Speaker 1: as you're building it. That's really kind of the theme
- 22:24Speaker 1: where you want to go with. So what is your
- 22:27Speaker 1: content or is it categorize? How is it? Because it's
- 22:31Speaker 1: gonna be honest. You know, HPCUS recognized for the athleticism,
- 22:35Speaker 1: that sports program, recognized for those bands, those marching bands
- 22:40Speaker 1: at halftime, dominant the landscape. And then academics. So what
- 22:44Speaker 1: is consist of educational program And we're doing that. We're
- 22:50Speaker 1: doing a masterclass program with UH Tennessee State. UH. That's
- 22:56Speaker 1: that's been one of our charter schools that we've been
- 22:58Speaker 1: working very closely with because really the programming that we're
- 23:01Speaker 1: trying to create is they have the students create programming
- 23:03Speaker 1: for the network and then we're doing some lifestyle programming.
- 23:07Speaker 1: We've created a show with Charlotte Neil called What's Next
- 23:10Speaker 1: with Charlie Neil and doing very similar things you're doing
- 23:13Speaker 1: here with your podcast of interviewing people in the ABC circle,
- 23:16Speaker 1: around the HBC circle or you know, graduated from an
- 23:20Speaker 1: HBCU who are doing things in the community or in
- 23:23Speaker 1: business who can help enlighten us on how to move forward.
- 23:27Speaker 1: And of course, like you said, you know, we're doing
- 23:29Speaker 1: we're doing HBC Sports right now. We're doing it on
- 23:32Speaker 1: a lot of tape stuff material that we're getting. We
- 23:35Speaker 1: hope to try to have some large sports in one
- 23:37Speaker 1: and we'll see what what comes about, you know, in
- 23:40Speaker 1: regards to that. And then we're trying to create other
- 23:44Speaker 1: programming around um, you know HBCUs that people would really
- 23:50Speaker 1: relate to, Like we have a black quiz show, uh
- 23:52Speaker 1: that we got from Don Jackson and the Chicogogmy. He
- 23:54Speaker 1: gave us twenty six episodes, uh that we're working with
- 23:57Speaker 1: uh that I think it's all around HBC is good.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So but the questions are really tough. You know. I'm
- 24:01Speaker 1: about shut a couple of times, and I'm trying to
- 24:03Speaker 1: figure out the answers to some of these questions. Is
- 24:05Speaker 1: that the version hosted by Nephew Tommy, Yes, yes, exactly
- 24:09Speaker 1: exactly a nephew times, you know, and they're doing well
- 24:13Speaker 1: for us. And then we have another another show that
- 24:15Speaker 1: we picked up with Zenni Garrison and uh Jannon Rubin,
- 24:20Speaker 1: which is really all about social justice, but it's it's
- 24:22Speaker 1: UH game set shot is what it's called. And they
- 24:25Speaker 1: talked to a lot of tennis professionals about the whole
- 24:29Speaker 1: thing about injustice and dealing in the black and white world.
- 24:33Speaker 1: You know. So it's slowly but surely picking up program
- 24:36Speaker 1: Our goal in one is the least be able to
- 24:40Speaker 1: do two hours of original programming, and then we'll start
- 24:44Speaker 1: adding more as we go. Okay, cool, So here's another program,
- 24:49Speaker 1: money Making Conversations. You know, we want that you want
- 24:53Speaker 1: You're on the docketing, You're on the doc top show
- 24:57Speaker 1: because he's right now. He's the thing that I love
- 24:59Speaker 1: about what's happening with money Making Conversation and the interviews.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I got an interview Kenny Lord, you know, at the
- 25:05Speaker 1: top of Lifestyles out of using texts, Heath from Tennessee
- 25:08Speaker 1: State University just interview the UH last week. The people
- 25:11Speaker 1: who created Christmas Clause, Clarence Clause. You know, young black couple,
- 25:17Speaker 1: black couple, you know, both of them graduate from HBCUs.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And so it's really interesting how granular the relationship has
- 25:25Speaker 1: been so me being able to provide content and so
- 25:28Speaker 1: now I built I bought my new office building in Atlanta.
- 25:32Speaker 1: So and so, now now I'm doing video like I
- 25:35Speaker 1: told you I would, and so this is this, this
- 25:37Speaker 1: is the program, and I'll be able to bring I'm
- 25:39Speaker 1: building out a video wall to the right of me
- 25:42Speaker 1: and so, which means that I'll be able to get
- 25:44Speaker 1: even bigger talent, even bigger relationships, but more important, exposing
- 25:48Speaker 1: the entrepreneurial value of HBCUs and also being able to
- 25:53Speaker 1: give you quality programming because that's what sales. Even though
- 25:56Speaker 1: if I can get to celebrity HBCU people on my
- 25:59Speaker 1: show and get them on your network, then guess what
- 26:02Speaker 1: you be able to marketing brand. They become the face.
- 26:05Speaker 1: And that's what we're gonna do. That's how that's well.
- 26:08Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm for anyone listening to the Sean Show
- 26:12Speaker 1: right now, let me just say this, I am very,
- 26:14Speaker 1: very very excited to have building relationship with one of
- 26:17Speaker 1: the great brand masters in the business, with Sean McDonald.
- 26:20Speaker 1: I think that having him part of HBCU goal is
- 26:24Speaker 1: going to be explosion for us one and I'm looking
- 26:27Speaker 1: forward to marketing, building the brand and really working side
- 26:31Speaker 1: by side with him to really grow you know, his
- 26:34Speaker 1: show and really grow our partnership to show number one,
- 26:38Speaker 1: to show people we can work together. Number two, to
- 26:41Speaker 1: take advantage of this networking, the building of all the
- 26:44Speaker 1: people in the ABCY circle so that, as the earlier mentioned,
- 26:48Speaker 1: we can build something that everybody can be proud of
- 26:50Speaker 1: down the road. That's really the goal, right, that's really
- 26:52Speaker 1: the goal, and that's really what we're trying to do,
- 26:54Speaker 1: you know, and it's it's amazing. We gotta you know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: our president and vice president elect, which is a amazing
- 27:00Speaker 1: how Howard University a k A member question. You know,
- 27:04Speaker 1: people go where she really black with the Howard She
- 27:07Speaker 1: got enough black going on in our life. He's ad
- 27:10Speaker 1: a k for Gerardi. She went to Howard University, she
- 27:14Speaker 1: grew up in Oakland. We just stopped. We just stopped
- 27:17Speaker 1: right there. That's that's that's enough. That's three black powerful
- 27:20Speaker 1: relationships that we can stop talking about. You got you
- 27:22Speaker 1: got that right, You got that right, And that's that's
- 27:24Speaker 1: gonna be very powerful. And I think that you know,
- 27:27Speaker 1: she's gonna jump on. We're gonna get her one day
- 27:29Speaker 1: on your show because she's gonna understand how powerful you
- 27:32Speaker 1: are in the market. And when she bring to the
- 27:34Speaker 1: table and she going on, everybody, let's to your message.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Some Moore we go, I can see you grabbing her.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Very show when we have an earball, we're talking about Powell,
- 27:43Speaker 1: you know, Walter Payton, you know, rest is so greatest
- 27:46Speaker 1: running back in the history of football, professional football, Steve McNair,
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know, Jared right, the greatest wide receiver all the time, Qualifiber,
- 27:54Speaker 1: Michael stray Hand, you know, it's Oprah Winfrey to Roger P. Hanson,
- 27:59Speaker 1: Anthony Annas and Stephen A. Smith. The list goes on
- 28:02Speaker 1: and on common you knows, tremendous, house, tremendous. And I
- 28:08Speaker 1: said that, and that's the kind of thing the Sean
- 28:10Speaker 1: that you're talking about that are young people are totally
- 28:13Speaker 1: unaware of, totally unaware of. I was of a group
- 28:16Speaker 1: of young folks will back right before about a year ago,
- 28:20Speaker 1: right for the virus hip, and was talking to them
- 28:22Speaker 1: about black media and mentioned Earl Graves's name, right, and
- 28:27Speaker 1: no one in the room knew who Earl Graves was.
- 28:30Speaker 1: No one, And I said, how can you be in
- 28:33Speaker 1: a communication journalism department and not know who Earl Graves is?
- 28:38Speaker 1: But that's because and this is one of the things
- 28:40Speaker 1: that I'm getting on a lot of the communications partners
- 28:44Speaker 1: in the HBC circles saying, listen, you gotta quit preachings
- 28:48Speaker 1: from the book and start educating these people on the history,
- 28:50Speaker 1: right so they understand when they stepped by the door,
- 28:53Speaker 1: who they are and who created the landscape for them, right. Well,
- 28:57Speaker 1: you know that even who really created it is sad
- 29:00Speaker 1: to see how the Johnson publication Brandy without Jet. You know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: you and I both know we grew up with Jet,
- 29:09Speaker 1: No question, j Beauty, JEF Beauty was a black man's dream,
- 29:13Speaker 1: come on now, you know. But you know what's what
- 29:15Speaker 1: what's saving behind that that was shown is that I
- 29:18Speaker 1: said it a lot of Bob meetings, Bob and I
- 29:20Speaker 1: had to get Bob piece of credit that back in
- 29:24Speaker 1: the early days and BT Bob went through a lot
- 29:27Speaker 1: of those folks like the john Agents of the world.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I was in those meetings and asked them to partner
- 29:32Speaker 1: with him so that we could create a conglomerate, right,
- 29:35Speaker 1: And everybody was caught up in their own silos. Man,
- 29:37Speaker 1: they were like, oh no, I don't need you. It's like,
- 29:40Speaker 1: are you serious? You know, But that's the thing that
- 29:44Speaker 1: we have to un uncapped. I mean, we gotta start
- 29:47Speaker 1: showing how we can work together, how we can drive
- 29:50Speaker 1: business and get more people involved in the circle so
- 29:54Speaker 1: that we can have a conglomerate that can grow and
- 29:58Speaker 1: people say, oh wow, they're doing something out there that
- 30:00Speaker 1: that's powerful out there. So the message out there, right,
- 30:04Speaker 1: and they're working together to make that happen. And so
- 30:06Speaker 1: let's let's go back to why we got on this call.
- 30:09Speaker 1: HBC you go dot tv is the website, ABC, you
- 30:13Speaker 1: go on Real Coup Now, Now you gotta have real
- 30:16Speaker 1: Coup to get to it, right, Yes, yes, but we
- 30:20Speaker 1: will have it. We will have a new app out
- 30:22Speaker 1: very soon, within the next three weeks that you'll be
- 30:25Speaker 1: able to pick us up right on your phone and
- 30:28Speaker 1: the app will be mainly connected to our website, right,
- 30:32Speaker 1: so you're really be able to follow us closer. Well,
- 30:34Speaker 1: that's the key because you if you start downloading and
- 30:37Speaker 1: then if people start rating your app on your download
- 30:39Speaker 1: the experience, then that's when you win. And that's what
- 30:42Speaker 1: I'm talking about right now. Now, let's go to the
- 30:44Speaker 1: target audience for we wrap up their primary at the
- 30:47Speaker 1: millennials eighteen to twenty four. The secondary is the alumni
- 30:51Speaker 1: which is forty nine and right. So the alumni is
- 30:56Speaker 1: what we're talking about because I was there. The influencers
- 30:59Speaker 1: for the young people, because of course we build a
- 31:02Speaker 1: brand of agents. I'm gonna say it the word week
- 31:04Speaker 1: because I can't get into the conversation, act like I'm
- 31:06Speaker 1: outside if right, you're directed it right, because we're influencers.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Because influencers are key. That's what that twenty five for
- 31:14Speaker 1: the night, and it really is for the nine to
- 31:17Speaker 1: seventy and beyond because the grandparents and the legacy influencers.
- 31:22Speaker 1: That that's the part of it, man. I mean, we
- 31:24Speaker 1: put together a football game years ago in the Bahamas,
- 31:27Speaker 1: were the first ever to do it. We put together
- 31:29Speaker 1: Bahama HBCU Go Bahama Football Classy. We bought Tennessee State,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I mean Texas Southern in the play Central State. And
- 31:38Speaker 1: what was amazing was we put ten thousand people in
- 31:42Speaker 1: the fourteen Arena within the within two weeks. Because they
- 31:46Speaker 1: wouldn't they wouldn't give us the rent TI a week before.
- 31:48Speaker 1: It was unbelievable. But anyway, my point is to your point.
- 31:53Speaker 1: When we started interviewing some of the people who attended
- 31:56Speaker 1: the generations that were tied together, was amazing. I mean
- 31:59Speaker 1: people say, when my grandfather went to my grandmother went
- 32:02Speaker 1: there to my father. I mean, the generations was unbelievable.
- 32:06Speaker 1: And that's what makes hbc so strong. But a lot
- 32:10Speaker 1: of people don't know that right then. That's why I'm
- 32:13Speaker 1: excited about. I'm excited about when we got the call
- 32:15Speaker 1: and talked about what you're trying to do because I
- 32:18Speaker 1: see it. And I'm not saying a visionary, but I
- 32:21Speaker 1: know that when I see what's happening with the squack
- 32:24Speaker 1: becoming my my my field, the football version of the SEC.
- 32:29Speaker 1: When I'm when I see Adon Sanders his brand going
- 32:33Speaker 1: down to Jackson State, when I see young recruits, when
- 32:36Speaker 1: I see the Vice president elect being an HBCU grad
- 32:42Speaker 1: of Howard University, which we have to consider to be
- 32:45Speaker 1: the Ivy League level of a black HBCU schools, And
- 32:50Speaker 1: that's where we're at now. We're at a We're at
- 32:52Speaker 1: an interesting point right now in life where the funding
- 32:55Speaker 1: should come through. You know, we should also stay on
- 32:58Speaker 1: the top of corporate of mayor A. She's continue you
- 33:01Speaker 1: to contribute like they contributed in one twenty and twenty
- 33:06Speaker 1: one and move forward. Let's don't make this to be
- 33:08Speaker 1: a guilt donation. Let's make this an annual donation. And
- 33:11Speaker 1: that's what should you should The magic word that needs
- 33:15Speaker 1: to be appreciated on a regular basis not a guilt situation.
- 33:19Speaker 1: This way, it should be at the end of the day.
- 33:22Speaker 1: But curse you got me brother. Like I said, I'm
- 33:23Speaker 1: on video. Now I'm on video. Appreciated, man, I appreciate
- 33:27Speaker 1: Sean blad to Appy man and thank you very much,
- 33:29Speaker 1: you and Samantha and the crew man. Thank you very
- 33:32Speaker 1: much for having me today. Well again, you know when
- 33:34Speaker 1: the app drops, you gotta let us know. So we're
- 33:36Speaker 1: putting letter, putting on social media. It's it's momentum again.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Congratulations for your one honor that you're gonna be for
- 33:45Speaker 1: business and cable or broadcasting cable award that you so
- 33:48Speaker 1: deeply deserved. A legacy is tied to experience and tied
- 33:51Speaker 1: to relationships, man. And to be on the car with
- 33:53Speaker 1: you knowing that we've crossed past that our journey is
- 33:56Speaker 1: gonna be united in a partnership. That's gonna, that's gonna.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Royal brand has been underserved for so many years, but
- 34:02Speaker 1: have served this country so well, and it's in the
- 34:05Speaker 1: in the quality people that is educated, taxpaying people, people
- 34:09Speaker 1: who are educating our children and their children, that are
- 34:13Speaker 1: running corporation, that are running members of Congress, denis doctors,
- 34:17Speaker 1: you know, lawyers, judges. That's what hbc us bring to
- 34:21Speaker 1: the table with everybody. I'm probably be a part of you.
- 34:25Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to it. Man, it's gonna be.
- 34:27Speaker 1: It's gonna be a beautiful marriage next year. Man, between
- 34:30Speaker 1: your showing our network, looking forward to it. We're gonna
- 34:32Speaker 1: cut it out and get it done. Thank you for
- 34:34Speaker 1: coming on money making and be careful man. You gotta
- 34:37Speaker 1: be safe out there, all of you. I appreciate your brother.
- 34:39Speaker 1: If we're getting more money making conversations and ifews, please
- 34:42Speaker 1: go to money Making Conversations dot com. Rashan McDonald I
