- 2:23Speaker 2: is what I do. Okay, this is what I do.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Because when I saw this, because I did it for
- 2:29Speaker 2: a foundation, a shelter in Mississippi, they asked me like, hey,
- 2:35Speaker 2: I shocked, shock flew down there, baked it all in
- 2:38Speaker 2: their kitchen, which I might do down there for y'all might
- 2:40Speaker 2: just come down there and bake it all at your
- 2:42Speaker 2: kitchen and it's all.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's all. It'd be easy for me to do it
- 2:45Speaker 1: that way too. But I'll tell you this.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Before the summer's out, y'all will see my face and
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'll be coming down to Pickings County, South Carolina, and

- 2:56Speaker 1: Fifty to sixty people. Now after I leave, they gonna
- 2:59Speaker 1: be mad because there.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Right right every day.
- 3:05Speaker 2: But I would do that money because when you do,
- 3:08Speaker 2: when you do guard to work and do blessing it
- 3:10Speaker 2: because I do a lot of work you're doing with the.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Homeless experience is not east.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It's like these It's almost seems like a mont you
- 3:19Speaker 2: can't climb. It's a mon you can't climb because you
- 3:23Speaker 2: you We want them to see the opportunity, but they
- 3:26Speaker 2: don't see it. But that's my version of it. Talk
- 3:29Speaker 2: about let's talk about it started with you, sunshine, how
- 3:31Speaker 2: you get in this business? And how did you meet
- 3:34Speaker 2: this handsome guy with this Michael Jordan cap on his
- 3:37Speaker 2: name Tracy.
- 3:39Speaker 3: We met as teenagers. So yeah, we've been together a
- 3:43Speaker 3: long time. But our story started out kind of rocking.
- 3:48Speaker 3: We got married young.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I was eighteen, two weeks before I was about to
- 3:52Speaker 4: turn nineteen.
- 3:52Speaker 3: He was twenty when we got married.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Just a couple of years of our marriage was really rocky,
- 3:59Speaker 4: ed up, splitting up, and we were separated for eight years.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Wow, that's not split job, woul, y'all separate. Now let's
- 4:09Speaker 2: get to you, Tracy. Tracy, you got Michael Jordan's ken.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You play basketball, brother, I asked you.
- 4:18Speaker 5: That's the main part of the store. See, all my
- 4:22Speaker 5: life it was all about basketball. You know, I ain't
- 4:25Speaker 5: my player for just to go to the pros, go
- 4:28Speaker 5: college and go priy. I haven't played against Kevin Gordon
- 4:32Speaker 5: and that's one of my highlights on my life. But
- 4:35Speaker 5: down here that it wasn't no studying, no books, It wasn't.
- 4:39Speaker 5: My focus was on basketball. So my twelfth grade year
- 4:43Speaker 5: I banged my New York and basketball wasn't in a
- 4:47Speaker 5: picture no more. But since I spent all them years
- 4:50Speaker 5: focused on basketball, I had nothing to fall off from.
- 4:53Speaker 6: Fall back home to the streets. That's all I knew
- 4:57Speaker 6: was the streets.
- 4:58Speaker 5: So things things had gotten bad, And I knew she
- 5:02Speaker 5: was the one because first I met her doing like
- 5:05Speaker 5: a shootout. It was a shootout, and I lost my
- 5:07Speaker 5: gold caps and I went back to go found my
- 5:09Speaker 5: gold caps. And I've seen Sunshine walking up the street
- 5:12Speaker 5: and it was like a little at first sight.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Lo, lo, lord, they need to stop. This man just
- 5:19Speaker 2: said it was a shootout, he lost his gold cap.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Then he says, Sunshine just calmly walking up the street. See, wow,
- 5:28Speaker 2: this story ain't adding up now either that there is
- 5:31Speaker 2: a file of the neighbor yours. Y'all in and sit
- 5:33Speaker 2: on my ducking bullets, because I'm gonna let y'all know
- 5:37Speaker 2: such time as an attractive drummer.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell y'all right now. So sometimes walking down.
- 5:42Speaker 2: The street, bullets flying everywhere, he's looking for his gold caps.
- 5:47Speaker 6: Yeah, it was the day after.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I don't there.
- 5:51Speaker 2: After, I don't even go down that street for a more.
- 5:58Speaker 5: I didn't see her first was a first, he did,
- 6:02Speaker 5: you can't know we've been cod block and going on.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Right, right, right, But yeah, I knew she was doing one. Right,
- 6:10Speaker 1: So let's get your story straight.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Because Rachean got out of her line because it was
- 6:13Speaker 2: the next day suns Tinne was walking down the street.
- 6:16Speaker 1: But the way you told that story, though, Tracy, it's
- 6:20Speaker 1: all like, man, I.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Lost my good cap sometimes sometimes walking down the street.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Slide fast bullets that for me for they proof, that's
- 6:35Speaker 1: what I saw. Continue, Tracy, you too much.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Boy, So you know the day for a while and
- 6:44Speaker 5: this I knew what she was doing. One like me
- 6:47Speaker 5: and my homeboy got into it with somebody and we
- 6:50Speaker 5: I think I thought we almost killed the dude.
- 6:52Speaker 6: So we was on a run from.
- 6:53Speaker 5: The police and the other dudes, and I caught Sunshine
- 6:57Speaker 5: and she came and scooped me up and.
- 7:02Speaker 6: In the country, so I knew she was down for that, right.
- 7:07Speaker 2: What i'ma just educate y'all. Now, See, this is our country,
- 7:14Speaker 2: he is see taking county is the country. So I
- 7:18Speaker 2: don't know what part of the country she went that
- 7:22Speaker 2: he calls the country, but I can assure you.
- 7:25Speaker 1: It gets real dark that night. I'm from the country.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I know what country looks like.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You got our house, you got a little thing next
- 7:34Speaker 2: to the bed. That's what he talked about country. I
- 7:37Speaker 2: know he talked about y'all. I think I got to
- 7:38Speaker 2: educate my people because they ain't never.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Had no country people like y'all on my call before now.
- 7:45Speaker 2: But but we having fun here because of the fact that.
- 7:49Speaker 1: That's what you have to have to uplift people. You
- 7:52Speaker 1: have to have a sense of humor because there's so
- 7:55Speaker 1: much darkness in what y'all do.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Now, what motivated your son Shine as well as Tracy
- 8:03Speaker 2: to pursue this path because I see homeless people all
- 8:06Speaker 2: the time.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Well, one thing that I didn't mention earlier.
- 8:09Speaker 4: While we were separated, there was a short time frame
- 8:13Speaker 4: where I was homeless, and but luckily I had my
- 8:16Speaker 4: brother that I could go with and you know, with
- 8:19Speaker 4: him probably for about a year until I got back
- 8:22Speaker 4: on my feet. Then I moved in with my mother, wow,
- 8:25Speaker 4: and then ended up getting you know, my own place back.
- 8:28Speaker 4: So that's pretty much my touch on, you.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Know, being connected with homelessness.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Now, his story is a lot deeper as far as
- 8:37Speaker 4: homelessness is involved.
- 8:40Speaker 5: We moved to Anser and All and moved answer, and
- 8:45Speaker 5: I was doing good. I had got a good job,
- 8:47Speaker 5: were doing good. God bless us with the brand new trailer.
- 8:50Speaker 5: I mean, we were doing well for ourself. And then
- 8:53Speaker 5: my nephew got murdered. There was they were trying to
- 8:57Speaker 5: get I think they were trying to get me. But
- 8:59Speaker 5: since I moved, that got my nephew. Something in me snapped.
- 9:04Speaker 5: And when it snapped, I went back to the streets
- 9:08Speaker 5: and something. The first time I got my job broke
- 9:10Speaker 5: and my wife next time something happened like that.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I'm gone.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Well about a couple months toobout.
- 9:17Speaker 5: A year later, I tried to got shot up, and
- 9:20Speaker 5: that's when Sunshine she left. I did this for a while,
- 9:25Speaker 5: but all y'all men know, man, when that woman leave,
- 9:27Speaker 5: boy ay, everything falls apart. I'm gonna jump all the
- 9:34Speaker 5: way to the park. I was on the run from
- 9:36Speaker 5: the police. I was facing twenty five to life. That
- 9:40Speaker 5: what make me homeless?
- 9:42Speaker 6: When you man, When I was out there doing my thing,
- 9:44Speaker 6: I would help a lot of people, and I had
- 9:46Speaker 6: a lot of homeboys.
- 9:48Speaker 5: But when you on the run, you find out who
- 9:50Speaker 5: really is your friends, You really know who got your back.
- 9:53Speaker 5: And I was only for eight years running from the
- 9:56Speaker 5: police and then one night of God just said, man,
- 9:59Speaker 5: turn yourself in.
- 10:00Speaker 3: So police station turned myself in.
- 10:04Speaker 5: I went to prison, I got out and I went
- 10:07Speaker 5: I went to a homeless shelter.
- 10:10Speaker 6: I went there for.
- 10:11Speaker 5: Two years and it taught me how to turn my
- 10:13Speaker 5: life around instead of being a street person.
- 10:16Speaker 6: Turned my life towards God.
- 10:18Speaker 5: About two weeks for it was a two a two
- 10:22Speaker 5: year program and back to the end, I started reaching
- 10:25Speaker 5: out for Sunshine. I ain't talked to him eight years,
- 10:28Speaker 5: so I couldn't find her. So about two weeks before graduation,
- 10:32Speaker 5: she called me and I'm like, man, as long as
- 10:34Speaker 5: you don't live in Piggins County, man, we can get
- 10:36Speaker 5: back together.
- 10:36Speaker 6: But she lived right in Piggins County. She ain't go nowhere, nowhere,
- 10:43Speaker 6: so now so then, uh, yeah, I am. I know.
- 10:48Speaker 3: God.
- 10:48Speaker 5: God gave me a vision while I was in prison.
- 10:50Speaker 5: He gonna use what I went through to help other people.
- 10:54Speaker 5: But he didn't give me no instruction. So we came
- 10:57Speaker 5: back to Piggins County. We opened up a couple of
- 10:59Speaker 5: thriller stores. Uh, but nobody went and licensed me because
- 11:02Speaker 5: of my background. Nobody church Maacht likened me to preach,
- 11:07Speaker 5: but nobody told me to. This man came to us
- 11:09Speaker 5: sore and he he brought me in. When we went
- 11:13Speaker 5: to his church with four people and we my wife,
- 11:16Speaker 5: his wife, him, oh and our and our child was there.
- 11:19Speaker 6: Uh.
- 11:21Speaker 5: He groomed me for about two years and then he
- 11:24Speaker 5: passed away and gave us the church. When he gave
- 11:27Speaker 5: us the church, my first my first two sermons, we
- 11:30Speaker 5: had this homeless people coming to our shelf. It was
- 11:32Speaker 5: like during the cold season and we rolled around piggs hound,
- 11:36Speaker 5: I mean, with no homelean sheept to know where, so
- 11:39Speaker 5: we allowed them to stay inside of the church. Well,
- 11:41Speaker 5: we our church is old, I'm talking about old Catholic church,
- 11:46Speaker 5: so we have no sprinkling system. So somebody told on
- 11:50Speaker 5: us and they told us we couldn't do it no more.
- 11:52Speaker 5: So God say build it yourself. But this time, you
- 11:56Speaker 5: know how hard it is for a convid to get
- 11:58Speaker 5: a job. I found and dollar tree man, I told you,
- 12:01Speaker 5: and God told me to quit, and I didn't.
- 12:04Speaker 6: I ain't up getting robbed in this day.
- 12:05Speaker 5: So I said, I'm I'm with God all the way.
- 12:09Speaker 6: And that's just part of the story right now.
- 12:13Speaker 2: That's now, that's the word is said. That's a hell
- 12:15Speaker 2: of a story. At this part of the story, you
- 12:20Speaker 2: need to stop. I'm told, Glad, I'm telling something.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Man.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'm told Glad, I ain't rob y'all be laughing. So
- 12:27Speaker 2: if I was around y'all, in fact, when I come
- 12:29Speaker 2: down there, be ready to laugh, be ready to laugh.
- 12:34Speaker 2: You not. I am coming down there, and I am
- 12:38Speaker 2: going to bait. I am going to personally serve my
- 12:42Speaker 2: desserts to your crew.
- 12:45Speaker 3: We would love to have you.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Just you're just you, just to take a gas away.
- 12:51Speaker 2: So like I like, I'm stressing myself out, and like
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'm driving to California. Okay, then I have to think
- 12:57Speaker 2: about it.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Then I don't know. I see y'all.
- 13:01Speaker 2: But with this story that you tell, I won't to
- 13:04Speaker 2: get to you to trace a lot of violence, man,
- 13:06Speaker 2: a lot of violence, and you lose a relative, but
- 13:11Speaker 2: you still got this personality of up left and positivity.
- 13:16Speaker 2: How have you not allowed those setbacks stop you from
- 13:20Speaker 2: being the person you are today?
- 13:23Speaker 5: God shows me every day what he did for me.
- 13:26Speaker 5: He showed me his love is grace and his mercy.
- 13:29Speaker 5: One sect one you don't understand. Oh my angle management
- 13:33Speaker 5: came out. I was in prison, Okay, I mean years
- 13:36Speaker 5: in person, I mean years were you're in prison two years.
- 13:39Speaker 5: They dropped mostly all the charges because I turned myself in,
- 13:44Speaker 5: but I was in probation while I was doing it.
- 13:47Speaker 3: My roommate had nine hundred and ninety nine years.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Straight did jail two years.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Man across from here and damn there a thousand years
- 13:57Speaker 2: because I know you didn't tell that man you was
- 13:59Speaker 2: in there for two years.
- 14:00Speaker 6: No, no.
- 14:03Speaker 5: Said, wait from go to church, go to church every day,
- 14:07Speaker 5: go to school.
- 14:10Speaker 6: I ain't see everyone they do.
- 14:11Speaker 7: Man, Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with
- 14:15Speaker 7: more Money Making Conversations Master Class. Welcome back to the
- 14:24Speaker 7: Money Making Conversations Master Class hosted by Rashaan McDonald.
- 14:29Speaker 2: There was something staying interesting to me about the church
- 14:32Speaker 2: and you was bringing you bring homeless people in the church,
- 14:36Speaker 2: and they say that was against the rule.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Explain that to me, because I thought that's what the church.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Purpose of the church was to share the dity were.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Different, We were very different.
- 14:47Speaker 5: We hain't got this couple in right and downstairs we
- 14:53Speaker 5: had a kitchen area and you know.
- 14:54Speaker 6: What I'm saying, stuff like that.
- 14:55Speaker 5: So we let them, we allowed them to stay down
- 14:57Speaker 5: there and we started getting back on their feet too.
- 15:01Speaker 6: You know, they got their call, they got a nice job,
- 15:03Speaker 6: they got a call.
- 15:04Speaker 5: They were going through the process, and then somebody heard
- 15:07Speaker 5: about it and we reported it because we because the
- 15:11Speaker 5: church wasn't built for that.
- 15:13Speaker 4: And we don't have a sprinkler system. Yeah you know
- 15:17Speaker 4: one of those sprinkler systems and our church.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Doesn't have that.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Okay, okay, cool, So it's like basically co violations.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Then we found the building, and then where the building
- 15:30Speaker 5: was it they said they ain't want that kind of
- 15:32Speaker 5: activity in their neighborhoods where they took.
- 15:34Speaker 6: That building from us. But then we were finding blessed.
- 15:36Speaker 2: For one right, So there, that's really good because I'd
- 15:41Speaker 2: like to break down because people hearing certain things that
- 15:43Speaker 2: make stereotype. But really y'all are doing a good deed,
- 15:46Speaker 2: but y'all violating codes right right.
- 15:51Speaker 6: We didn't know?
- 15:52Speaker 3: Yeah we did.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah, now you you you know, they can't be everywhere
- 16:00Speaker 2: because everybody don't want a shelter. Okay, you can just
- 16:03Speaker 2: open the shelter over here, people go. Those type people
- 16:06Speaker 2: we don't want near our business or near our homes.
- 16:09Speaker 2: So let's go through the process of finding the shelter,
- 16:14Speaker 2: getting the shelter approve, and then gathering funds to keep
- 16:17Speaker 2: it open. Let's let's find that shelter first, Sunshine.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Okay. So, like my husband said, the first building that
- 16:23Speaker 3: we got is exactly what you just described.
- 16:25Speaker 4: It was in the neighborhood and people heard about it
- 16:28Speaker 4: and they were like, no, we don't We don't want
- 16:30Speaker 4: to shelter in our neighborhood. We were still searching for
- 16:34Speaker 4: another building. We had a family friend come to us
- 16:38Speaker 4: and he owned a lot of properties, and so he said,
- 16:40Speaker 4: you know, I think I got a building that wo
- 16:42Speaker 4: worked good, you know, for a homeless shelter for y'all.
- 16:45Speaker 4: So we went and looked at it, and that building
- 16:48Speaker 4: needed a lot of work.
- 16:51Speaker 3: It was really big.
- 16:52Speaker 4: It was about six thousand square feet upstairs got like
- 16:56Speaker 4: two thousand square feet, but it was completely did It
- 17:00Speaker 4: was like just a big open warehouse face, no walls,
- 17:03Speaker 4: no flooring, no ceiling anything.
- 17:06Speaker 3: It needed a lot of work.
- 17:08Speaker 4: So we were sitting there thinking, how in the world
- 17:11Speaker 4: are we going to get this building, you know, up
- 17:13Speaker 4: to code to become my own in a shelter. So
- 17:16Speaker 4: I started reaching.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Out to people. That's one thing I do.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I stayed on the grind, reaching out and especially once
- 17:22Speaker 4: my husband told me his vision on what he wanted
- 17:25Speaker 4: to do as far as opening a shelter. So I
- 17:27Speaker 4: started contacting companies, contractors, CEOs and telling them, you know
- 17:33Speaker 4: what our plans are and that we got this building
- 17:35Speaker 4: that needs a lot of work. Before I knew it,
- 17:38Speaker 4: the project took off. We had all the companies pouring
- 17:41Speaker 4: into us. Lows came in and started building walls on
- 17:45Speaker 4: one side. Home depot came in, started pouring in money,
- 17:49Speaker 4: Churches came together and started putting down flooring, ceiling, and
- 17:53Speaker 4: before we knew it.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Took two years to get done. But before we knew it,
- 17:58Speaker 3: we we did it.
- 18:02Speaker 1: To build a new hours take about six months to
- 18:04Speaker 1: a year.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Now, okay, so do y'all did the wows two years?
- 18:10Speaker 2: That's pretty quick. That's pretty quick.
- 18:13Speaker 8: With no funding, with no fund and reduced some fighting

- 18:25Speaker 8: the picture is they didn't have a problem.
- 18:27Speaker 6: Yeah, yes, and so we had to go up and
- 18:30Speaker 6: getting a lot of people.
- 18:31Speaker 5: But when we finally got the word to open, the
- 18:35Speaker 5: pandemic hit that same day.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yes, wow, it took us two years, It.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Did pant did come along.

- 18:47Speaker 4: occupancy to open.
- 18:48Speaker 2: At least you got that. But God was good to
- 18:50Speaker 2: give you that. Now, if the party a hit and
- 18:53Speaker 2: you didn't get the certificate, even in the summer time
- 18:56Speaker 2: for you looking around for a certificate.
- 18:58Speaker 6: But the people don't get twisted. We're not a big corporation, right.
- 19:02Speaker 5: So when we was building a shelf, it was me
- 19:04Speaker 5: and my wife doing the trips to loads, get the pipes,
- 19:08Speaker 5: to get the flooring, to get it was me and
- 19:12Speaker 5: my wife doing it because thed Blessings with all a
- 19:16Speaker 5: boss truck. So everything that we did, it would just
- 19:19Speaker 5: meet in my own wife and it caused her to
- 19:23Speaker 5: have a lot of health problems, right.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I've got a congestive heart failure.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Now, okay, so but how you what you're doing to

- 20:36Speaker 2: got it, okay, I got it for real presidential lifetime achievement.
- 20:43Speaker 2: The ward okay, sitting on my office on my wall.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Now we down there at Pinkings Pickings, Pickings County, South Carolina.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You know, looking at your life, you know YO came together,
- 20:57Speaker 2: separated Tracy two years and concertrated, sat across the man
- 21:01Speaker 2: with a thousand years.
- 21:05Speaker 1: You know, shootouts, did the wrong things, more wrong things
- 21:10Speaker 1: you did right in your early years. Yes, I can
- 21:13Speaker 1: say that.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I can say that, and such show you don't getting
- 21:16Speaker 2: that with it, hormlest lifestyle.
