Speaker 1: Direct from Hollywood with Ryan Seacrest. This month marks the
• 0:04
Speaker 1: anniversary of the classic horror thriller In the Sixth Sense,
• 0:06
Speaker 1: a movie that ended up being the second highest grossing
• 0:08
Speaker 1: film of behind only Star Wars, racked up six OSCAR
• 0:12
Speaker 1: nods and made writer director m Night Shamalan a household
• 0:15
Speaker 1: name that wasn't in all the case when he finished
• 0:17
Speaker 1: his script two years prior. Sure, he had a measure
• 0:20
Speaker 1: of success in Hollywood, having sold a few scripts and
• 0:22
Speaker 1: directed one comedy Wide Awake that earned only two thirty
• 0:25
Speaker 1: thousand dollars, but the way m Night approach selling the
• 0:27
Speaker 1: sixth cents made all the difference in the world, because
• 0:30
Speaker 1: even though he was in a household name, he believed
• 0:32
Speaker 1: in his script and himself, so he made outlandish demands
• 0:35
Speaker 1: to studios. He says to the Hollywood reporter. I told
• 0:38
Speaker 1: him I have to be attached as director. There's a
• 0:40
Speaker 1: one million dollar minimum bid. If they want to read it,
• 0:42
Speaker 1: they have to know that that is where it's going
• 0:44
Speaker 1: to start. I was twenty five when I wrote it.
• 0:47
Speaker 1: I felt sometimes when you're writing something that no one
• 0:49
Speaker 1: asked you to write, you have to decide it's worth
• 0:51
Speaker 1: I told my agent it's fine if no one wants
• 0:53
Speaker 1: to pay that. If they don't want to do it,
• 0:54
Speaker 1: I'll shelve it. You have to not be bluffing when
• 0:57
Speaker 1: you say stuff like that. I wasn't bluffing. Studios were
• 0:59
Speaker 1: obviously willing to read it and pay a million dollars,
• 1:01
Speaker 1: because in the end he sold the script for just
• 1:03
Speaker 1: under three million dollars and it was worth every penny.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: That's direct from Hollywood.
