When Roger Bannister ran a sub 4-minute mile for the first time in 1954, he did what no one on planet earth had ever done before. No one believed it was possible. And interestingly, as soon as he achieved it, running a sub 4-minute mile became suddenly achievable. His record lasted just 46 days. Today, the world record is 3 minutes 43 seconds.
