- 2:16Speaker 1: Radio chart history just scored three consecutive number ones from
- 2:20Speaker 1: an album. This string of hits included take Me to
- 2:22Speaker 1: the King. I can only imagine at this place. Please
- 2:26Speaker 1: welcome the money making conversation, this dynamic duel known as
- 2:30Speaker 1: David and Tamila man good this morning. You know what
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'm saying, Tabla, I gotta give you love. You know, David,
- 2:41Speaker 1: o't that you know? Give us a little couple of
- 2:43Speaker 1: credits out there? I got it. Hit everybody though, who
- 2:45Speaker 1: Tabla is ain't doing? Ain't doing? We are excellent. I
- 3:00Speaker 1: appreciate well. You're you're You're fantastic. And you guys have
- 3:05Speaker 1: always been there for me, uh with Steve and I
- 3:08Speaker 1: was doing the Neighborhood Awards. Anytime we called to do anything,
- 3:11Speaker 1: you guys have been there rescuing it with a strong
- 3:13Speaker 1: faith and commitment and uh and you and you value
- 3:17Speaker 1: your fans. And that's what I really liked about it
- 3:19Speaker 1: about your career and what you've done. And I've known
- 3:22Speaker 1: you guys, you know a long time now over twenty
- 3:24Speaker 1: years and so and you guys have been consistent and
- 3:28Speaker 1: I've seen you grown. But one of the things I
- 3:30Speaker 1: wanted to talk about, and you know, not jokingly, only
- 3:32Speaker 1: I can, you know, I can jokingly talk about David
- 3:35Speaker 1: and Tamil's career because both of them have phenomenal careers
- 3:38Speaker 1: as singers and actors. And David, he decided one day
- 3:41Speaker 1: he gonna do stand up that's how talented he is.
- 3:44Speaker 1: He's just gonna decide on his reality show, I'm gonna
- 3:49Speaker 1: do stand up right anything, and but no, no, no,
- 3:54Speaker 1: no no. But then he gonna go on tour. Though
- 3:59Speaker 1: you do it, do it, do it, and not afraid
- 4:04Speaker 1: to do it. You gotta make it do to do.
- 4:06Speaker 1: You got a lot of keys. And but here's the
- 4:10Speaker 1: thing about what I wanted to talk about on this
- 4:12Speaker 1: show because I was talking to my show is about
- 4:13Speaker 1: the entrepreneurship Tomline, David, and you know, in this business,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you come you come in based on your talent, okay,
- 4:21Speaker 1: and and God that have given both of you, individual
- 4:24Speaker 1: to individual, tremendous amount of talent. But I see over
- 4:27Speaker 1: the years you're starting to control your own destiny, okay,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and if you can talk to us a little bit
- 4:33Speaker 1: about that, and when did it really making you realize that,
- 4:36Speaker 1: you know that you can actually book yourself, you can
- 4:39Speaker 1: actually create your own music production company. When did all
- 4:43Speaker 1: that started to fall in place? You know, we kind
- 4:47Speaker 1: of started back in I think we did our first
- 4:49Speaker 1: album in two thousand four right there somewhere and there,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and because we've seen how the labels were treating artists,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and it was like, you know, I know how to
- 5:01Speaker 1: do music. I know that Tamila has one of those
- 5:04Speaker 1: going with the voices. So it was just like, let's
- 5:07Speaker 1: do our own. You know. At first, now, I'm gonna
- 5:10Speaker 1: tell you, at first, dam was like I ain't having that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: She was like, I'm not gonna be no solo album
- 5:18Speaker 1: by myself and go out there by herself. But I
- 5:21Speaker 1: just believed in so much in what we had. I
- 5:24Speaker 1: just said, let's put the music together and put it
- 5:27Speaker 1: out there, and it's such good people will buy it. People,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, we love it. So we just decided to
- 5:32Speaker 1: create our own and I just believe in ownership. And
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know, seeing you guys, guys like you who started
- 5:40Speaker 1: to control their own narrative in this business and not
- 5:44Speaker 1: allow people to tell you that you can do this,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you can't do that, And that's you know, having good
- 5:49Speaker 1: examples like that helped as well. Well, you know, it's important.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And thank you for that compliment, because I always tell
- 5:55Speaker 1: people I didn't. I didn't there was no blueprint. And
- 5:58Speaker 1: then and I guess what was our afraid? Was Steve
- 6:01Speaker 1: Harveer afraid? Yeah, because unknown makes you're afraid, But you
- 6:05Speaker 1: have to walk past it. What you say. I was
- 6:09Speaker 1: just about to say, you have to do it afraid,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and that's what That's what you guys did, and that's
- 6:14Speaker 1: what I I've just seen that develop over the years
- 6:18Speaker 1: with with this and I look at the month of
- 6:19Speaker 1: November and you guys, uh, that's a Thanksgiving month for
- 6:23Speaker 1: the Man family. And the month of November. You have
- 6:25Speaker 1: two big projects coming out of November. You have the
- 6:29Speaker 1: about the US Against the World, Secrets to our Married Love,
- 6:33Speaker 1: Marriage and Family. What would be a book available November
- 6:36Speaker 1: that would be on Harper Colums. Correct, that's the one
- 6:40Speaker 1: I want to get a copy of so I can
- 6:41Speaker 1: give it to my fans. And then your first album
- 6:44Speaker 1: drops Us Against the World. The Love Project drops November night. First,
- 6:48Speaker 1: let's talk about the album, because last time he was
- 6:51Speaker 1: on my show earlier in the year, we talked about that.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Now we were it's October, November next month is about
- 6:57Speaker 1: to happen and any hiccups? Is it where you wanted
- 7:00Speaker 1: to be? Is everything timing out like you wanted to
- 7:03Speaker 1: want it to happen. What's happening is it's a lot.
- 7:08Speaker 1: We put so much at one time where the body
- 7:10Speaker 1: can't keep up with the work. But I mean we've
- 7:16Speaker 1: I've really enjoyed it to be in the studio with
- 7:19Speaker 1: David again after over fifteen years, because it's like about
- 7:25Speaker 1: I've been pulling teeth with him to sing with me
- 7:27Speaker 1: on my records, and he was like, every time it's
- 7:30Speaker 1: time for him to do it. The studio sessions, we
- 7:33Speaker 1: find something to do, hold on, hold on, hold up.
- 7:37Speaker 1: That I would be you know, David can sing. David,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I know I would joke around about his singing. He
- 7:42Speaker 1: could sing that. But you know, Tamla, you can sing.
- 7:47Speaker 1: And that's why it was so difficult for me to go.
- 7:50Speaker 1: So I thought she was gonna be on my very
- 7:53Speaker 1: It's very intimidating to sing with Tamela Man, I know
- 7:59Speaker 1: how to it's not for you. It's not for you
- 8:03Speaker 1: because it's you. The team that we put together, the
- 8:09Speaker 1: writing team that my frint David J. Put together for
- 8:11Speaker 1: this whole project. They Taylor made the song and the
- 8:16Speaker 1: lyrics everything just for me. So it made it comfortable.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I mean, they made it very comfortable for us to
- 8:23Speaker 1: get go in and do the music. So that's what
- 8:26Speaker 1: made it easy for me because at first I was
- 8:29Speaker 1: I was shaking in my boost that first I've seen
- 8:34Speaker 1: an acapella. I've seen her acapella. Okay, bring down the house.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Two people, just throw hard mike on the front row.
- 8:42Speaker 1: She get up like you know, know that you don't
- 8:44Speaker 1: even do the me me me me, Oh children, do
- 8:47Speaker 1: the scales. She'll do nothing. David, do this, do this everybody,
- 8:55Speaker 1: just our challenge you go, oh just Steve. I would
- 8:57Speaker 1: just give her the mike right just saying she don't like,
- 9:01Speaker 1: oh me, oh it's too late at night. Oh it's
- 9:05Speaker 1: too She don't do that. She don't do that. She
- 9:08Speaker 1: just starts singing, just singing. So I understand you've being intimidated.
- 9:12Speaker 1: After all those credits I just read and you know
- 9:16Speaker 1: you got a lot more credit. But you know, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: be a boy thing going, thank God. But but the
- 9:23Speaker 1: album is good love music, love Musicolo Hollo, Hello, gospel,
- 9:30Speaker 1: It's just gospel is just a okay, Hello. We're gonna
- 9:34Speaker 1: be right back with more money and make conversation because
- 9:36Speaker 1: see this conversation turn different here all that many years
- 9:40Speaker 1: of marriage and all the kids and everything money is
- 9:43Speaker 1: making comp can be right back with David Tamila Man.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I just Reashan McDonald. I'm back there on the air
- 9:50Speaker 1: with me, my my favorite couple in Hollywood. Their dynamic duel.
- 9:54Speaker 1: They've taken a career as an individual talented people and
- 9:58Speaker 1: turning into a more contain enterprise. They travel around this
- 10:02Speaker 1: this country, travel on the world, not only entertaining but
- 10:05Speaker 1: blessing people with their God given talents as David and
- 10:08Speaker 1: Tamila Man now David and Tamilo Man. This album, now,
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm just gonna tell you, I immediately thought it would
- 10:15Speaker 1: be a gospel based album, so educated Sean McDonald and
- 10:18Speaker 1: my fans and what this album is all about. Album
- 10:24Speaker 1: is all about love, grown folk love music. Right. I
- 10:29Speaker 1: think if it's one thing that we need is grown
- 10:32Speaker 1: folk love people that are married and love grown folk
- 10:36Speaker 1: love music, not this stuff. I mean, everybody do their thing,
- 10:39Speaker 1: not this stuff. Let me slap it topic and all
- 10:42Speaker 1: of that, but we need some music that speaks about
- 10:45Speaker 1: genuine love between a couple. That's somebody that genuinely love
- 10:50Speaker 1: each other. So Tamble and I when in the studio
- 10:53Speaker 1: and did an album of straight love music. So what
- 10:57Speaker 1: makes you think about when you go when you go back,
- 11:00Speaker 1: you go back back in the day, the love music,
- 11:02Speaker 1: Secret Lover. That's so we got some stuff like that,
- 11:07Speaker 1: and we're just talking about each other, talk about some
- 11:10Speaker 1: of the situations that we've that we're celebrating thirty years
- 11:13Speaker 1: of marriage. So we're we put this album together with
- 11:18Speaker 1: the book to have like a combo where you can
- 11:21Speaker 1: kind of here hear us talk about our stories and
- 11:24Speaker 1: our with our family, about our family and in our marriage,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and also the love that we have for each other.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The album comes out in November ninth. Okay, it's Us
- 11:34Speaker 1: against the World the Love. That's the love project. It
- 11:37Speaker 1: drops over the knife and then the the that's the
- 11:40Speaker 1: album and the book comes out in November November. And
- 11:45Speaker 1: that's all that be released by hyper by Hpper College
- 11:48Speaker 1: and you're in Atlanta Apper College and October twenty six,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you'd be a Coca Cola Roxy. I got everything, man, y'all,
- 11:55Speaker 1: y'all know, y'all with Rashaan, you know, I know how
- 11:56Speaker 1: to market come on that. Well, I'm so glad, you
- 12:00Speaker 1: know you really, you know, when you ain't around somebody along,
- 12:03Speaker 1: you kind of forget their skills set, you know what
- 12:05Speaker 1: I'm saying, forget what they really do. Yes, you know
- 12:09Speaker 1: what all I need to do is give me that
- 12:11Speaker 1: single and I'm gonna start playing that sucker on a
- 12:13Speaker 1: high level. But the thing I wanted to make sure
- 12:15Speaker 1: that this is what I want to get out for sure,
- 12:17Speaker 1: because you know, when you branded in the lane of success,
- 12:20Speaker 1: like like, for instance, gospel, you're such a great legendary
- 12:24Speaker 1: gospel off you put out, then I actually naturally thought
- 12:27Speaker 1: this would be a gospel based album. So what are
- 12:30Speaker 1: you gonna do to get the word out that it's
- 12:33Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's more of a secular album. Correct. Okay,
- 12:37Speaker 1: So you know, just let me kind of give you
- 12:39Speaker 1: a little backstory. Once we did that book. We wrote
- 12:42Speaker 1: the book, and the book is at a journey thirty
- 12:45Speaker 1: years and you know, this celebrates our thirty years with
- 12:49Speaker 1: the book. And so as we wrote the books and
- 12:52Speaker 1: start digging into the stories in the book, we were like,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and this needs to be a sound track. It needs
- 12:57Speaker 1: to be a soundtrack to go with the book. And
- 13:00Speaker 1: so we put together this team and we sit down
- 13:03Speaker 1: with the team for hours and poured out our hearts,
- 13:06Speaker 1: our stories, the good, the bad, the ugly stories, and said,
- 13:11Speaker 1: we need you guys to come up with something that
- 13:13Speaker 1: captures our hearts and our voice. And that's where we
- 13:15Speaker 1: came up with the Love Project. And it just takes
- 13:19Speaker 1: you on a journey from Um, some of the songs
- 13:23Speaker 1: like still Do that you know reiterates my love for
- 13:27Speaker 1: you after thirty years, I still do good. Love just
- 13:31Speaker 1: simply talks about communicating between our husband and wife. Um.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, there's another song called making Up, and it
- 13:38Speaker 1: just it simply talks about that making ups. It's just
- 13:42Speaker 1: don't let the Sun go down. So it's it's still
- 13:46Speaker 1: captures our base as Christians, but it's wrapping the beating
- 13:50Speaker 1: these bolts that you know, people can relate to, and
- 13:54Speaker 1: before you know it, you're getting a subliminal message like
- 13:57Speaker 1: it's not worth giving up us Still do still do
- 14:03Speaker 1: good love making up, letting up you we have some
- 14:08Speaker 1: one call you uh signs when you can tell when
- 14:11Speaker 1: your woman throwing them signs. You know they give us
- 14:14Speaker 1: a little sleep with signs when they won't. You're so funny.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It gotta be like a little comedic speed when you
- 14:22Speaker 1: guys alive right when you're performing live. I think it
- 14:25Speaker 1: gotta be entertaining from a standford of emotional from just
- 14:29Speaker 1: a brilliantly talented couple on stage. But I know your
- 14:32Speaker 1: comedic steals Pop Eye, doesn't it? Oh yeah, I mean
- 14:39Speaker 1: even even do even you know with the tour that's
- 14:42Speaker 1: coming to Atlanta at the at the Roxy, at the
- 14:46Speaker 1: Coca Cola Roxy, we're actually performing some of these songs,
- 14:50Speaker 1: so you'll get to hear these songs. Were incorporating I
- 14:53Speaker 1: love portion as well as they've been doing this comedy.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Our kids are a part of it, our sign of
- 15:00Speaker 1: our daughter. And then I'm I'm still doing my gospel
- 15:04Speaker 1: of course, because Jesus is our foundation. Thank you. It's
- 15:07Speaker 1: not we're not leaving our faith. We're just encouraging families.
- 15:11Speaker 1: The idea for this record is encouraged couple to stay together,
- 15:15Speaker 1: not to give up on each other. That's what it's
- 15:17Speaker 1: all about. It's not about trying to cross over per se.
- 15:22Speaker 1: We're just trying to encourage everybody that we can do it,
- 15:24Speaker 1: that we can make it. Okay, here's the deal, everybody.
- 15:27Speaker 1: The US Against the World Tour. The Man Family will
- 15:31Speaker 1: be in Atlanta, Georgia, October twenty six at the Coca
- 15:34Speaker 1: Cola Roxy. That that's a brand new theater that's right
- 15:37Speaker 1: next to the Atlanta Braves Baseball Stadium, a stone throw right.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I walked Pride every day. Is an amazing facility, and
- 15:45Speaker 1: and I see their picture on the big screen every day.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I remember I told my staff, I went, okay, do
- 15:50Speaker 1: you know the Man's are coming to time? They go,
- 15:51Speaker 1: how are you do? Because I see him every day?
- 15:55Speaker 1: What's that means? They're not seeing the sign anybody's see?
- 16:01Speaker 1: I get there early. Understand me. I'm the guy who
- 16:04Speaker 1: writes to check. So the guy who writes to check
- 16:05Speaker 1: to get there early. So I get there when it's
- 16:07Speaker 1: still night, even though it's morning. So you know, people
- 16:10Speaker 1: I employed the start work at eight, they're not gonna
- 16:12Speaker 1: get there at seven thirty. They're gonna get that eight. Okay,
- 16:14Speaker 1: I get to work at six o'clock. So at six
- 16:16Speaker 1: o'clock it's still dark outside. So when I'm walking by,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I get the real experience of seeing David and Tamila
- 16:21Speaker 1: Man blinking blinking at night in the dark. So y'all
- 16:25Speaker 1: take all my attention because I got a long walk
- 16:28Speaker 1: and I got to see that picture. And I'm proud,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you know, because I know how hard you guys have
- 16:32Speaker 1: worked to be exposed like this at that level. Because
- 16:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell you something. It's a lot of
- 16:38Speaker 1: names on that for they have a whole coulendar in
- 16:40Speaker 1: October and every one of those dates a field with
- 16:43Speaker 1: some act I'm just telling everybody what's going on with
- 16:45Speaker 1: David and Townler Man. They are important enough to say
- 16:49Speaker 1: we're gonna put them on this big screen. And that's
- 16:54Speaker 1: how that's the talent, you got it. That's that's why
- 16:56Speaker 1: you gotta go see this show. You gotta go see
- 16:57Speaker 1: this show because they're very special. Tell us exact actually
- 17:00Speaker 1: how the show starts, what's all happening in the show
- 17:03Speaker 1: and had ends? Because you David tilause you tell me
- 17:06Speaker 1: how that works. Than it starts with the whole family
- 17:12Speaker 1: on stage and we do this big number. This number
- 17:14Speaker 1: called Us Against the World. Is that you know there's
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's the title song to the album. It's called Us
- 17:20Speaker 1: Against the World. So the whole family does the US
- 17:22Speaker 1: against the World stones, and then David comes out, David Jr.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Comes out and has this big, huge party. We were
- 17:30Speaker 1: in rehearsal last night and I just heard is DJ
- 17:33Speaker 1: foot y'all this board is rocking the plays party having
- 17:38Speaker 1: to play going. Then my daughter Tia is doing a tribute.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I don't know if I want to give away her tribute.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm anyway, He's doing this really good tribute to Aretha Franklin.
- 17:51Speaker 1: It's a queen and it's a it's a really heartfelt
- 17:54Speaker 1: tribute that she's doing. And then I come out and
- 17:57Speaker 1: do stand up. Then Tabla comes out after in the
- 18:00Speaker 1: mission and just thanks us the church for a second,
- 18:03Speaker 1: and we interrupt the whole show to encourage families, encouraged
- 18:07Speaker 1: couples with the love set. And then in the middle
- 18:11Speaker 1: of that, I'm gonna tell you what happened to me
