- 2:54Speaker 1: me on your show. Well, you know, first of all,
- 2:58Speaker 1: I'm happy to be uh, you know, first of all,
- 3:00Speaker 1: let me just talk about I gotta get this first
- 3:02Speaker 1: part of our relationship. I've been done and and and uh.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And on the Jamie Fox Show, a young man came
- 3:08Speaker 1: into my life. I was co executive producer to the
- 3:10Speaker 1: Jamie Fox Show and he was the executive producer Jamie
- 3:13Speaker 1: Fox Show at the time. His name is Bennie rich Berg,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and he he changed my life as a writer. And uh,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and he's always said, because you know, uh, you know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: Pam Grid, that's my good best friend. I go, Pam
- 3:24Speaker 1: grew your friend Benny, because Bennie short he's showed, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 1: he needs the sexiest looking dude, Benny Betty. You know
- 3:31Speaker 1: Pam Grid. Yeah, Pam Grid my good friend. He always
- 3:34Speaker 1: would tell me that, And then I'm damn, you know
- 3:36Speaker 1: what I believe? After while then I'm looking at her
- 3:38Speaker 1: own on the Wendy Williams Show and she brings up
- 3:41Speaker 1: Bennie Richberg name because they are good friends. And so
- 3:45Speaker 1: so tell me, how did you and Bennie Richberg? This
- 3:47Speaker 1: this incredible sitcom writer, incredible man become friends. Well, getting
- 3:54Speaker 1: rich for my autobiography and just been published by Grand
- 3:58Speaker 1: Central Publishing and was in a store for one of uh,
- 4:02Speaker 1: the industry bookstore called Samuel French he saw my book.
- 4:06Speaker 1: It was number twenty on the New York Times bestseller list,
- 4:09Speaker 1: and he lost his mind, jumped out of the car,
- 4:12Speaker 1: ran into the store, bought the book, read it, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: optioned it that night. And I said, do you know
- 4:19Speaker 1: you'd be writing like Quentin did from the female side
- 4:21Speaker 1: of your brain? He said, I'm gonna do it, and
- 4:24Speaker 1: thenny It took him two years, but he jumped in
- 4:28Speaker 1: the car with his with his favorite dog, drove up
- 4:31Speaker 1: the California a bluzzard from California to Colorado. Saw a
- 4:35Speaker 1: mountain lion run across the road and said, no, she
- 4:38Speaker 1: don't live out here. And he said, he found out
- 4:41Speaker 1: me as she do. And he lowered the whole camped
- 4:46Speaker 1: down and went through the entire history of my family,
- 4:51Speaker 1: the Black West Underground rail Road, writing that my autobiography,
- 4:55Speaker 1: adapting into a screenplay, and did the most brilliant job.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Took him two years to talk about A professor, a teacher.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I call him Lord of the Pen. He's so good
- 5:07Speaker 1: at what he did, and he was so committed and
- 5:11Speaker 1: came out with one of the best screenplays. And we
- 5:13Speaker 1: not only have we become friends, I have watched him
- 5:16Speaker 1: and heard about your legacy, his legacy, Will Smith legacy, Jazzy, Jeff,
- 5:22Speaker 1: everybody who um you know they kind of grew up together,
- 5:25Speaker 1: were around and so when he brought up the book
- 5:31Speaker 1: with Jazzy and Idris Al was around him, heard interested,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I have to be in a pen Green movie. I
- 5:38Speaker 1: want interest to play my grandfather, Daddy Ray, who was
- 5:41Speaker 1: the first feminist in my life, who taught all of
- 5:43Speaker 1: us girls how to hunt and fish and shoot and
- 5:47Speaker 1: drive and be self sufficient. He said, if a woman
- 5:50Speaker 1: knows how to do something, a man will respect you.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And that has been my mantra motto, my threat of
- 5:58Speaker 1: instant and I want to tell you it was. It
- 6:02Speaker 1: has been such a great partnership because he taught me
- 6:05Speaker 1: a lot. Yes, yes, yes, you know, because I had
- 6:09Speaker 1: wasn't some screenwriting scholarships because I wanted to enhance my
- 6:13Speaker 1: career not only as an actor, better writer and a director,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and I want a couple of grants and scholarships. And
- 6:20Speaker 1: he just made me a better writer. And I hope
- 6:25Speaker 1: you got to meet him. You got to meet him,
- 6:27Speaker 1: You already know him. You've got to talk to him
- 6:29Speaker 1: and find out what he's been doing, because let me
- 6:30Speaker 1: tell you He is just a wealth of knowledge and
- 6:33Speaker 1: will really assist people in writing, not only for blogs
- 6:38Speaker 1: or uh newspapers, magazine screenplays, novels. He went through a
- 6:44Speaker 1: great process and I learned, and I want to tell
- 6:46Speaker 1: you there's nothing better than finding someone who is generous
- 6:49Speaker 1: and sharing their guests. This is Ben Richburg. She's she's
- 6:51Speaker 1: talking about Richburg and Benny Richburg. Just the backup the story,
- 6:55Speaker 1: just in case people just came online. UM talent sitcom writer.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I made him on the Jamie Fox Show. Didn't even
- 7:02Speaker 1: know it. Walked in the writer's room and he welcomed
- 7:05Speaker 1: me with open arm, and he taught me because I
- 7:07Speaker 1: was just one of the confident guys and like like
- 7:09Speaker 1: Mr Greer saying, is that you think you know until
- 7:13Speaker 1: you work with an expert or somebody who understands the levels.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Myra brocka Kill was on that. Yeah, and you know
- 7:21Speaker 1: he started out with Fresh Prince for five years, the
- 7:24Speaker 1: Martin Show for five years, and the Jamie Fox Show
- 7:27Speaker 1: for five years. So I just said, well, I know
- 7:30Speaker 1: you were considering some other writers, but Bennie, I think
- 7:33Speaker 1: you can do it. And when you talk to him,
- 7:36Speaker 1: he will have you Howard, because he said I can't
- 7:38Speaker 1: live pang down. I have to see. Yes, I know
- 7:41Speaker 1: you can do it. I've watched you write the show
- 7:44Speaker 1: for many characters, and out of some drama is humor
- 7:50Speaker 1: and so there's a lot of sad time. There's a
- 7:52Speaker 1: lot of humor in in my life story, there's a
- 7:54Speaker 1: lot of tragedy. But you will, you will have the beats.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I think you can handle the beats of of something
- 8:01Speaker 1: that's tragic and comedic and satirical. I know you can
- 8:05Speaker 1: do it. And he didn't let me down. Let me
- 8:07Speaker 1: tell you people see this. He was so good that
- 8:12Speaker 1: Jay Farrell. When um are you here? Absolutely, I'm here,
- 8:18Speaker 1: Come on Lee Lee Ross of of Caller, who wrote
- 8:22Speaker 1: of some of the show's leg video games or Call
- 8:25Speaker 1: of Duty for Infinity would he designed a video game
- 8:28Speaker 1: for me? And the video game is for a family,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you know it's it's one of those for PlayStation four
- 8:35Speaker 1: and it's called shall Leon Shuffle And I miss this.
- 8:40Speaker 1: This seafood is master of martial arts and I teach
- 8:45Speaker 1: you my disciples to kill zombie rats. I'm hearing this
- 8:52Speaker 1: voice in the studio and it's Jay Sarah and all
- 8:57Speaker 1: of a sudden, like oh, something hit me, his voice,
- 9:02Speaker 1: his manner, his performance. But I think I found my
- 9:06Speaker 1: Richard Pryor. And I ran out the door, stood in
- 9:09Speaker 1: the parking lot screaming the bit a beginning. You gotta
- 9:12Speaker 1: meet Jay Tayl. I think I heard Richard, but I
- 9:14Speaker 1: think we found him. I think I know he's going
- 9:16Speaker 1: to be a great Richard. And they met and they
- 9:18Speaker 1: read the scenes and they worked something, and Jay I said, Jay,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you gotta He says, I gotta do Richard for you.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And so Jay Sayl is gonna play Richard Pryor. He's out,
- 9:28Speaker 1: was gonna play my grandfather. Let me tell you all
- 9:32Speaker 1: because of the Beny. I'll just tell you that Jay Farrell,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you don't know who he is from a star of
- 9:36Speaker 1: Saturday Live, can do anybody voice, especially washing Oh. He
- 9:40Speaker 1: can knock. He's so good. He has over two hundred characterizations.
- 9:47Speaker 1: But when he didn't even do a character therization of Richard,
- 9:51Speaker 1: he basically channeled all everything that I told him about
- 9:56Speaker 1: Richard and what he read about and the screen play
- 10:00Speaker 1: us jumped off. And when he had certain body movements
- 10:04Speaker 1: and and facial expressions, my god, I'm not kidding. He's
- 10:11Speaker 1: gonna be nominated. He's gonna take it. He gonna he
- 10:16Speaker 1: gonna take it. He's gonna And if I can find
- 10:18Speaker 1: then it can help us find our Tamera Dobson, who
- 10:21Speaker 1: played with Cleopatrick Jones and you bring Stop Stop Our
- 10:30Speaker 1: Kareem Dojibar. I think we found him. He was going
- 10:33Speaker 1: to find a Freddie Prince. And then the most exciting
- 10:37Speaker 1: character was the agent John James. He was a very
- 10:41Speaker 1: game of as he was. He was the most powerful
- 10:44Speaker 1: agent at a p A in the industry. He had
- 10:48Speaker 1: me Camera, Richard Roundtree who was Shaft and I was
- 10:51Speaker 1: the case, Dave Martin and John Candy. He had all
- 10:55Speaker 1: of us who were basically being hot, bankable actors at
- 10:59Speaker 1: that time. I would love to have Ryan Reynolds play him.
- 11:03Speaker 1: He gots an extra thing happening here. We talked about
- 11:05Speaker 1: the Brown Sugar app We talked about the biopic of
- 11:08Speaker 1: your life. You got a movie coming out with Diane Keaton,
- 11:10Speaker 1: who's one of my favorite actresses. I love her, Yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and and a series with Fox. Let get to that.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I want to go to them one at a time.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Let's talk about Diane Keaton, and then we're gonna go
- 11:20Speaker 1: bless this Blessed the Mess on Fox in February, talk
- 11:23Speaker 1: about Diane Keaton's movie let me tell you we were
- 11:26Speaker 1: separated at birth. I'm not kidding. We are so funny
- 11:30Speaker 1: and crazy and wearing hats and just you know, but
- 11:34Speaker 1: we're very generous, very giving, and we both to drink
- 11:36Speaker 1: red wine with ice cubes in it. That drives people crazy.
- 11:39Speaker 1: But she's so funny. She gives more than one and
- 11:44Speaker 1: fifty percent. And that's what the actors that we just
- 11:47Speaker 1: give so much until we're exafted. And it was such
- 11:50Speaker 1: a great She always on my bucket list to work with.
- 11:53Speaker 1: She and Meryl Street and I want to I want
- 11:56Speaker 1: to direct Viola Davis. I mean, I've got a list.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Let me tell you're working with her. Sometimes you just
- 12:03Speaker 1: laugh so hard. You hamm a lot to Kidney on
- 12:05Speaker 1: this and she didn't made me laugh all damn day.
- 12:07Speaker 1: But she's so funny and so generous. It was great
- 12:10Speaker 1: to work with her, and Jackie Weaver and Real Pearlman
- 12:13Speaker 1: as well. Now bless the Mess on Fox, and that's
- 12:17Speaker 1: this mess. It takes like it's me and Lake Bell
- 12:22Speaker 1: and Dak Shepherd and Ed Bagley Jr. And Lake and
- 12:27Speaker 1: Dax leading New York broke been to disillusion driving back
- 12:34Speaker 1: to his aunt's farm in Nebraska. And they got to
- 12:38Speaker 1: come and deal with me. And they think they're gonna
- 12:40Speaker 1: bring some slick city mess. Come on now, I bring
- 12:46Speaker 1: my country behind to this character, which a lot of
- 12:51Speaker 1: people haven't seen unless they've come here been he's seen it.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Then he has seen deer fighting on the property, a mountain,
- 12:57Speaker 1: lions horses show up, there's for low turkey. That's all
- 13:01Speaker 1: kinds of He says, Yeah, she really lived out here
- 13:04Speaker 1: because it keeps my instincts shirt to live in a
- 13:07Speaker 1: place that so can be so dangerous. It scares some
- 13:10Speaker 1: of my friends, who are then blancos. I have to
- 13:12Speaker 1: walk them out to their car. But anyway, and I
- 13:19Speaker 1: got a single uncle, I gotta I've got my father
- 13:22Speaker 1: wanted would you learned? You know, maybe y'all want a
- 13:25Speaker 1: date or something like that. And then I met one
- 13:27Speaker 1: uncle at a reception at a book signing, and he said, well,
- 13:32Speaker 1: you know, do you have a lot of guns that
- 13:34Speaker 1: as well? Yeah, Stevens the gulls giving me a gun
- 13:37Speaker 1: at a breath the lawn. I got my gun out
- 13:39Speaker 1: of Miami Vice and you know, everyone giving me a
- 13:42Speaker 1: gun or something from the show. My grandfather gave me
- 13:44Speaker 1: his punting rifles thirty sixes. But I said, but don't
- 13:48Speaker 1: worry about my guns, just worry about my chainsaw. I
- 13:51Speaker 1: love you. Okay, here's you. I own the phone with
- 13:54Speaker 1: Pam Grier, the legendary Pam Grier. She has an app,
- 13:57Speaker 1: uh promoted through Bounce. It's called brown Sugar. She has
- 14:01Speaker 1: a biopick with my boy Binny rich Berg that's coming
- 14:04Speaker 1: out Rotten Tomatoes from Jay Farrell. Jay Farrell was in it. Uh.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Rotten Tomatoes has ranked her as the second greatest female
- 14:12Speaker 1: action hero and hero and film history. Who above you are?
- 14:20Speaker 1: They're saying, above you are? You? You're the greatest as
- 14:22Speaker 1: far as I'm concerned. You were doing a special effects.
- 14:25Speaker 1: You know, you were really fighting, you were really fighting.
- 14:28Speaker 1: The greatest or maybe the first or second is because
- 14:31Speaker 1: I had to do all those stunts of sport. Bra
- 14:36Speaker 1: I know, I know, he Bam. I want to thank
- 14:39Speaker 1: you for I didn't have a stunt woman and also
- 14:43Speaker 1: because of me entering and creating this job, I needed
- 14:47Speaker 1: a stunt person, which helped to create the stunt woman's association.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Because let me tell you, when Yes, I was a
- 14:54Speaker 1: martial artist. Yes I was a gymnast. Yes I rode
- 14:57Speaker 1: horses and gimp horses and a Rescuba diver, and I
- 15:00Speaker 1: had I had a athletic ability. But you really need
- 15:04Speaker 1: this stuff because if you get hurt the first time,
- 15:07Speaker 1: let me the day's over and you will feel it
- 15:09Speaker 1: fifty years later. That's how long two years I've been
- 15:15Speaker 1: watching it. Start feeling it. When it gets cold and
- 15:20Speaker 1: it rains, I go, oh, that was that stuff where
- 15:22Speaker 1: I drove the card through the building. My knees are
- 15:24Speaker 1: killing me. Ram, I want to thank you for calling
- 15:26Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations and Tam, Benny Bridgeberg, you spoke. I'm
- 15:29Speaker 1: gonna tell him and you tell him that we both
- 15:30Speaker 1: spoke on Mighty Making Conversation. I gotta get him on
- 15:32Speaker 1: the show. Okay, thank you, Pam. We'll be right back
- 15:37Speaker 1: from Man McDonald. The Money Making Conversations don't touch that down. Yeah.
- 15:42Speaker 1: We sort of stopped paying attention and racked up a
- 15:44Speaker 1: lot of debt. Yeah, it was stressful. He blamed me
- 15:47Speaker 1: for my credit card debt and I blamed him for
- 15:49Speaker 1: building that man case. It's awesome anyway, we stopped blaming
- 15:53Speaker 1: each other dinner homework and read that a smart way
- 15:55Speaker 1: to consolidate debt is to get a fixed rate loan.
- 15:58Speaker 1: But getting a loan as brutal and a time drain.
- 16:01Speaker 1: So I was in my man cave researching personal loans
- 16:04Speaker 1: and I found best Egg. They have an A plus
- 16:07Speaker 1: rating with the B B B and best Egg handles

- 16:18Speaker 1: one business day. I applied online with no impact my
- 16:21Speaker 1: credit score. She always takes credit from my wins. But
- 16:24Speaker 1: long story short, she got an awesome loan, paid off
- 16:27Speaker 1: our cards and some bills while lowering our monthly payment.

- 19:41Speaker 1: Jeff Pope. How are you doing, sir? I'm doing. What
- 19:45Speaker 1: are you doing today? Pretty good? We're part of the
- 19:47Speaker 1: country and Mrs Pope were part of the country a
- 19:49Speaker 1: year in Philadelphia, Oh Philly, home of the last Super
- 19:54Speaker 1: Bowl champions. He's just like hanging around champions. I'm assuming
- 19:57Speaker 1: that's uh, that's your brand. Huh Yeah. I love I
- 20:01Speaker 1: love well, you know, I I love Taking a seller
- 20:06Speaker 1: from from New York through phill A down to d
- 20:09Speaker 1: C is one of my favorite rides I take. And
- 20:11Speaker 1: now something fairly a lot. And so are you based there?
- 20:15Speaker 1: For your for your entrepreneur, for your back for you
- 20:17Speaker 1: what you're doing in your business life? Where are you
- 20:19Speaker 1: based in Philly now? So? Um, Philly was the last
- 20:24Speaker 1: team I played for, the Eagles, UM, and so when
- 20:27Speaker 1: I got hurt in two thousand and ten, I just
- 20:28Speaker 1: fell in love with the East Coast. I transferred to
- 20:30Speaker 1: Howard University. I played for New York for a while,
- 20:33Speaker 1: and I would always come back to d C to
- 20:35Speaker 1: train in the off season. So, UM being from Detroit
- 20:39Speaker 1: and it being around two thousand and ten when the
- 20:41Speaker 1: craft hit, Um, you know, the economy was hit hard, obviously,
- 20:45Speaker 1: probably harder in the Midwest and a lot of other areas,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I just knew I want to come back out to
- 20:49Speaker 1: the East Coast, right. So I mentioned several things in
- 20:52Speaker 1: your in your credits. First of all, congratulations on making
- 20:55Speaker 1: the transition from what won't consider an athlete until the
- 21:00Speaker 1: entrepreneural world. Because a lot a lot of people don't
- 21:03Speaker 1: see that happening. They don't understand how can that transition happen?
- 21:06Speaker 1: How were you able? Did you start uh as a
- 21:09Speaker 1: high schooler or in college? Did you have the entrepreneurial spirit? Then?
- 21:13Speaker 1: How did it? How did it develop for you? Mr Pope? Uh?
- 21:17Speaker 1: Well for me? Um you know, I grew up in
- 21:19Speaker 1: a single parent house, sold My mom and grandma raised me,
- 21:22Speaker 1: which I know it was similar to a lot of
- 21:24Speaker 1: us out there. And so, you know, growing up in Detroit,
- 21:27Speaker 1: a tough environment, tough community. You know, they did everything
- 21:31Speaker 1: they could right to kind of keep me on the
- 21:33Speaker 1: on the straight in their path. And so, um, I
- 21:35Speaker 1: had an opportunity to go to an all boys Jesuit
- 21:37Speaker 1: high school. UM, that really kind of laid the foundation
- 21:40Speaker 1: as far as like business and finance. And so when
- 21:43Speaker 1: I went to Eastern Mission University in a fourth athletic scholarship,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I really didn't even think about the NFL until I
- 21:50Speaker 1: was able to clock a four to forty in the
- 21:52Speaker 1: forty are dash. Um, and so from their NFL became
- 21:56Speaker 1: a reality. But I always knew, you know, four too far.
- 22:01Speaker 1: You just threw that out there like everybody just sprinting
- 22:03Speaker 1: just out there until I was able that you you
- 22:06Speaker 1: were fast. Now you just suddenly came up and clocked
- 22:09Speaker 1: for too far. Then why did that happen? And so
- 22:13Speaker 1: so I never ran track in high school, and uh, um,
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know I ended up somehow, I ended up talking
- 22:21Speaker 1: too much smack and ended up challenging another football player
- 22:26Speaker 1: who was a senior who happened to be the track star. Right,
- 22:29Speaker 1: he had all the records, right, And I mean I
- 22:33Speaker 1: beat him pretty pretty well in a foot race. This
- 22:35Speaker 1: was probably my sophomore. Here is my sophomore in high school.
- 22:39Speaker 1: And so then it was like, well, look, if he
- 22:41Speaker 1: got all the records and he just lost to you,
- 22:43Speaker 1: you should probably run track. So so I ran track
- 22:48Speaker 1: my last years in college, and I was able to
- 22:50Speaker 1: run some some pretty fast times. We still got a
- 22:53Speaker 1: lot of state and meet records actually dating back to
- 22:56Speaker 1: two thousand two. But from there, um, that's when I
- 22:59Speaker 1: knew I was fast. Didn't hit me that I had
- 23:01Speaker 1: a leape speed until I was able to beat him
- 23:03Speaker 1: and this kid, you know, he had literally every record
- 23:06Speaker 1: in the city in the high school, right, So that
- 23:09Speaker 1: was pretty much the blueprint. Yeah. So so basically you're
- 23:12Speaker 1: a natural athlete. Can we say that it's probably my
- 23:16Speaker 1: Jamaican blood, But yeah, I've always get well, all the
- 23:20Speaker 1: sprinters come from Jamaica. Now all the sprinters come from Jamaica.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So so you know, I know thised near Bio said,
- 23:26Speaker 1: you overcame a lot of diversity, you know, growing up
- 23:29Speaker 1: and to be where you were at today, and we're
- 23:31Speaker 1: gonna have to have too breaks, So we're really getting
- 23:33Speaker 1: detail about what you're doing today. When you say adversity,
- 23:36Speaker 1: what exactly does that mean? Absolutely? So, I mean, you know, one,
- 23:41Speaker 1: I think you know, not enough people give young people
- 23:45Speaker 1: of color coming from tough environments enough credit right for
- 23:48Speaker 1: making it. But too you know, when I got to
- 23:50Speaker 1: Eastern Michigan, you know, I was playing a lot and
- 23:53Speaker 1: I had a devastating injury. I tored my quadra step
- 23:55Speaker 1: off the bone. Um, which is you know the quad
- 23:59Speaker 1: there's four obviously there's four parts of that month, and
- 24:01Speaker 1: that's the biggest muscle in your body, right, And so
- 24:04Speaker 1: you know you often hear about a C l s
- 24:06Speaker 1: and n c s. You don't really hear about quas
- 24:08Speaker 1: and so, um, they was they was prepared. When I
- 24:11Speaker 1: say day, I mean the coaching staff and the medical
- 24:13Speaker 1: staff at Eastern Michigan was pretty much prepared to hang
- 24:16Speaker 1: it up for me. You know what I mean? UM say, look, well,
- 24:19Speaker 1: on your scholarship, you'll never had a speed that you
- 24:22Speaker 1: once had. You probably won't even be able to play
- 24:24Speaker 1: competitive at this Division one level. We're ready to hang
- 24:27Speaker 1: it up for you, and and I wasn't ready to
- 24:29Speaker 1: hang it up. And so I found I finally found
- 24:33Speaker 1: a doctor that would approve my rehab um. And once
- 24:37Speaker 1: I came back, the biggest test for me was to
- 24:39Speaker 1: be able to come back from that injury and still
- 24:42Speaker 1: running four to forty right, And I was able. I
- 24:45Speaker 1: was able to do that. And I'm talking about rehabbing
- 24:47Speaker 1: for ten months, six hours a day, six days a week, right, um.
- 24:52Speaker 1: And so I came back from that injury, um and
- 24:56Speaker 1: still had the speed and despite being a starter, despite
- 24:59Speaker 1: playing as you can imagine, the relationship was just I mean,
- 25:02Speaker 1: it was just torn between me and them. And so
- 25:06Speaker 1: my high school coach said, look, I know a coach
- 25:09Speaker 1: at Howard University and they're actually putting defensive backs in
- 25:12Speaker 1: the NFL. And I had a I had an underclassman
- 25:15Speaker 1: draft grade. But that coach, who was by the name
- 25:18Speaker 1: of Keith Gilmore, I forever be thankful, drove all the
- 25:21Speaker 1: way from d C to Detroit to look at me
- 25:25Speaker 1: and my mom in his face and said, look, I
- 25:27Speaker 1: take care of your kids. If he transferred to Howard,
- 25:29Speaker 1: I take care of your kid. And he did that,
- 25:31Speaker 1: and I transferred the Howard Um. You know it was
- 25:34Speaker 1: ever going to overcome that injury. And even though I
- 25:36Speaker 1: didn't get drafted one, I'm a Howard Bison, So you
- 25:39Speaker 1: can't lose with that, right, you know. I went on
- 25:43Speaker 1: went on to the NFL and played four years and
- 25:44Speaker 1: I got my pension before I got hurt again. So
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm a man. I appreciate you, and uh Gatson is
- 25:50Speaker 1: a is a good uh person to have in my life.
- 25:53Speaker 1: You know. He tells me how great I am and
- 25:56Speaker 1: I sometimes don't understand it. But I just said, thank you.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Uh Now you're part of my family, Mr Pope. That
- 26:02Speaker 1: means I want a quarter. You gotta talk to me
- 26:04Speaker 1: and I want you to be a part of my
- 26:06Speaker 1: influencer campaign. Okay, I appreciate I look forward to I
- 26:09Speaker 1: really do tin nineteen you and me my make conversation
- 26:12Speaker 1: be right back. Yeah, we sort of stopped paying attention
- 26:16Speaker 1: and racked up a lot of debt. Yeah, it was stressful.
- 26:19Speaker 1: He blamed me for my credit card debt and I
- 26:21Speaker 1: blamed him for building that man cave. It's awesome. Anyway,
- 26:24Speaker 1: we stopped blaming each other, did our homework and read
- 26:27Speaker 1: that a smart way to consolidate debt is to get
- 26:29Speaker 1: a fixed rate loan. But getting a loan was brutal
- 26:33Speaker 1: and a time drain. So I was in my man
- 26:35Speaker 1: cave researching personal loans and I found best Egg. They
- 26:38Speaker 1: have an A plus rating with the B B B

- 29:55Speaker 1: Blind Spot which I love Criminal Mind which I love,
- 29:58Speaker 1: Being Mary Jane which I love, Arrow which I love,
- 30:01Speaker 1: Castle Gray's Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries, Bones the Original which
- 30:05Speaker 1: I love. Currently directing c is all American. He has
- 30:09Speaker 1: produced movies like I said, I Think like a Man,

- 30:37Speaker 1: you doing? My friends? I'm doing good, man, I'm doing good.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I appreciate first of all, thank you for coming on
- 30:43Speaker 1: my show. And uh, like I told everybody on the air,
- 30:46Speaker 1: uh you know, I mention one time and I first
- 30:48Speaker 1: screening when we did UH Think Like a Man, which
- 30:51Speaker 1: we went on to a huge success. But you you're
- 30:53Speaker 1: You're interesting. I'm glad they got you on the on
- 30:55Speaker 1: the on the phone, and right now on my show.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And I want you to be a regular in my
- 30:59Speaker 1: life because you're one of those talents that flies on
- 31:02Speaker 1: the radar but just as busy as heck? Am I
- 31:05Speaker 1: saying that wrong? Or are you all everybody know about you?
- 31:08Speaker 1: And I'm just the last one to find out about you?
- 31:11Speaker 1: And now I don't know if everybody knows. But but
- 31:16Speaker 1: you know, I've had a good run so far, so
- 31:18Speaker 1: so I can't complain. I can't complain. Well, just it's
- 31:21Speaker 1: really different because of social media and the way the
- 31:23Speaker 1: digital world works nowadays. Is that you always start It
- 31:27Speaker 1: used to be the day where you know, the talent
- 31:29Speaker 1: was the star. Now executive producers are stars, writers or stars,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and directors or stars because people can follow you. How
- 31:37Speaker 1: is this that? How has that changed? Because you've seen
- 31:39Speaker 1: the change from stuff to yard to now? How has
- 31:42Speaker 1: that changed the way you present yourself? Or are you
- 31:45Speaker 1: all you communicate with your fans? Yeah? You know. I
- 31:49Speaker 1: think social media has played like a really big, you know,
- 31:52Speaker 1: part in in how a lot of directors and producers
- 31:56Speaker 1: are perceived. I think that when when I was coming up,
- 32:00Speaker 1: if you were Spike Lee or Robert Townson or John
- 32:02Speaker 1: Singleton or somebody like that, we knew you because you
- 32:06Speaker 1: were kind of like a celebrity and you did commercials
- 32:09Speaker 1: and people saw your face, but you didn't really see that.
- 32:13Speaker 1: In the TV world, you didn't know who directed your
- 32:15Speaker 1: favorite episode of whatever show it was, you know, Good
- 32:18Speaker 1: Times or Martin or some show. But now, because of
- 32:22Speaker 1: social media, you get a chance to follow people who
- 32:26Speaker 1: get to see behind the scenes. You get to see
- 32:28Speaker 1: the you know, directors, producers, um, you know, posing with
- 32:32Speaker 1: the cast, and it's it's just the most different thing
- 32:34Speaker 1: now because I think now, um, it's all about it's
- 32:39Speaker 1: all about the fact that we are um, you know,
- 32:43Speaker 1: more accessible than we used to be back in the day.
- 32:46Speaker 1: So that's that's really important because that's why I was
- 32:49Speaker 1: excited that you can't you you're you're on my show
- 32:51Speaker 1: because my show is about up entrepreneurship and entertainment, and
- 32:56Speaker 1: my show is about the business side and also in
- 33:00Speaker 1: discovering unique talents like you that just just have a
- 33:03Speaker 1: dominant voice. Because I look at your look at your
- 33:06Speaker 1: resume and you're not an urban director. You know you
- 33:09Speaker 1: you're you're crossing over. How's that nothing negative? I'm just
- 33:13Speaker 1: trying to how people understand how are you able to
- 33:16Speaker 1: do that? What in your resume is allowing you to
- 33:18Speaker 1: do you know, go from a Vampire Diaries to the
- 33:22Speaker 1: flash to Mary being Mary Jane. So how how are
- 33:26Speaker 1: you accomplishing that task? Well, you know, when when I
- 33:29Speaker 1: first started out, me and Will Packer were business partners
- 33:33Speaker 1: and we had our company, ran Force Films. You know,
- 33:36Speaker 1: all the movies that we did were kind of you know,
- 33:39Speaker 1: in the urban space socially, you know, movies movie starring us.
- 33:44Speaker 1: And when I got in the TV, I apprenticed on
- 33:48Speaker 1: E R. The hospital show that was going on. And
- 33:51Speaker 1: when I was doing that and I shadowed on that show,
- 33:54Speaker 1: that was the first television show that I did. And
- 33:58Speaker 1: so when that happened, it opened the door for other
- 34:01Speaker 1: shows like that, and so for all men on big networks,
- 34:07Speaker 1: um that might only have one or two you know,
- 34:10Speaker 1: people of color in the cast. And I was kind
- 34:12Speaker 1: of doing that for a while. And it was funny
- 34:15Speaker 1: because I think the first you know show I did
- 34:18Speaker 1: that actually had a predominantly black cast was The Game.
- 34:23Speaker 1: And when I first did that, some of my friends like, oh,
- 34:26Speaker 1: so you do TV now, and I was like, no, No,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I've been doing TV for like five years. You know.
- 34:33Speaker 1: It was in a different shows. It was Criminal Minds
- 34:36Speaker 1: or you know, another show like that. So I think
- 34:39Speaker 1: because I kind of started TV there, it opened me
- 34:41Speaker 1: up to do a whole lot of different things. You know,
- 34:44Speaker 1: I'm I'm gonna get on you about this, you know
- 34:46Speaker 1: you you say er, you know a little hospital show?
- 34:48Speaker 1: What just one of the biggest hospital shows, drama shows
- 34:52Speaker 1: in the history of television. U creator what Johns Wales
- 34:56Speaker 1: created that show? Correct? He did? He did John Wells
- 35:00Speaker 1: and huge everything from Shameless, Smith West Way, you know, uh,
- 35:07Speaker 1: Third Watch, that's all John Well Nothing like being connected,
- 35:11Speaker 1: Mr Hardy Okay, Okay, man, I'm just hey, I'm just man.
- 35:18Speaker 1: You know, I go, well, you know that that but
- 35:19Speaker 1: but you know that's that's important because when people I
- 35:22Speaker 1: jokingly say that, but you know, that's how it is. Relationships.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Then in this business, what people think of you. And
- 35:29Speaker 1: you know, when you're doing one job, you know you're
- 35:31Speaker 1: actually looking for your next job. You know it sounds crazy,
- 35:34Speaker 1: even though you have Laurel to here. You have to
- 35:36Speaker 1: realize that a plug can be pulled. You know that,
- 35:39Speaker 1: you have to realize that multiple strings of income is
- 35:42Speaker 1: important to your life, and then you have to make
- 35:44Speaker 1: these decisions. So when you're sitting around and looking at
- 35:47Speaker 1: these shows like like the Flash and I look at
- 35:50Speaker 1: which is totally different from Power, tell us how you
- 35:54Speaker 1: how do you? How do you do that? How you
- 35:57Speaker 1: the Flash? Power? How are you as a director? How
- 36:01Speaker 1: do you sit down and then conceptionalized how to move
- 36:04Speaker 1: forward with the way you direct those shows? Those two
- 36:07Speaker 1: different shows, you know, when you look at the Flash
- 36:12Speaker 1: and you know Power, they're actually both two superhero shows.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Like the Flashes. You know, a guy that's looking for
- 36:21Speaker 1: the people that killed his parents or killed his mom
- 36:24Speaker 1: in prison his dad, and he gets these powers, so
- 36:26Speaker 1: he put on the costume and goes out to fight
- 36:29Speaker 1: crime to solve the mystery. Power is a drug dealer
- 36:35Speaker 1: who's trying to go legit, so he wears the mask
- 36:38Speaker 1: of a legit guy while he's a drug dealer by night,
- 36:41Speaker 1: so he can change his stars. So he's trying to
- 36:43Speaker 1: be a superhero for his family, trying to change it up,
- 36:47Speaker 1: and he's fighting the bad guys for him, which is
- 36:50Speaker 1: the people stopping him from doing what he has to do.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And they all have, you know, themes that we can
- 36:55Speaker 1: relate to of wanting to prolong, wanting to be better,
- 36:58Speaker 1: wanting to look out for your family. I think that.
- 37:01Speaker 1: You know, as a storyteller, whenever you get you know,
- 37:04Speaker 1: make things relatable to all of us, you know, whether
- 37:08Speaker 1: you like superheroes or not. Then you win as as
- 37:12Speaker 1: a filmmaker because you make people care about the story.
- 37:15Speaker 1: That is amazing. It's the truth. It's absolutely truth. Like
- 37:24Speaker 1: one of my favorite series on Netflix is called Knockles
- 37:27Speaker 1: His Knuckles, and that show is really about parody. You know,
- 37:31Speaker 1: you have a guy, okay, how horrible he is, He's
- 37:35Speaker 1: still trying to do good for his family, but unfortunately
- 37:38Speaker 1: he does so many bad things to other people to
- 37:41Speaker 1: satisfy his personal gains. And when you look at when
- 37:44Speaker 1: you when you when you carve it down to that,
- 37:46Speaker 1: like you said, a superhero trying to do good in
- 37:49Speaker 1: this situation, drug dealer in other situations. He has powers
- 37:54Speaker 1: that are that outrageously fast, and so those things are
- 37:58Speaker 1: really how you say, you really just go to the
- 38:01Speaker 1: core of something. That's that's that's the parallels both of them,
- 38:04Speaker 1: and that's how you're able to make the transition. That's wow,
- 38:07Speaker 1: that's how my man, I'm gonna get a banner and
- 38:10Speaker 1: gonna post that Rob, I'm gonna get your number. I
- 38:13Speaker 1: like you, man, I like you a lot. I'm a fan.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Could do lunch of dinner, you know, hook up. I
- 38:18Speaker 1: won't promote anything that you're associated with from now on.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I really am impressed with you as a person. I
- 38:24Speaker 1: really thank you for coming on my show, man, and
- 38:26Speaker 1: just keep winning, my friend, just keep winning. I appreciate that. Man.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I pe you having me and listen. I just want
- 38:32Speaker 1: to give you a shout out for inspiring so many people.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I see you, I see your energy. So I'm looking
- 38:38Speaker 1: forward to UH for us to do some amazing things together. Awesome.
- 38:44Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more from mar Sean McDonald
- 38:47Speaker 1: and money making conversations. Don't touch that down. Yeah, we
- 38:51Speaker 1: sort of stopped paying attention and wracked up a lot
- 38:53Speaker 1: of debt. Yeah, it was stressful. He blamed me for
- 38:56Speaker 1: my credit card debt, and I blamed him for building
- 38:59Speaker 1: that man cave. It's awesome. Anyway, we stopped blaming each other,
- 39:02Speaker 1: did our homework and read that a smart way to
- 39:04Speaker 1: consolidate debt is to get a fixed rate loan. But
- 39:07Speaker 1: getting a loan was brutal and a time drain. So
- 39:10Speaker 1: I was in my man cave researching personal loans and
- 39:13Speaker 1: I found best Egg. They have an A plus rating
- 39:16Speaker 1: with the B B B and best egg handles everything online,
- 39:19Speaker 1: start to finish and Consumer Affairs gave best Egg five
- 39:22Speaker 1: stars for their easy online loan app. And we could
- 39:25Speaker 1: be approved and funded and as little as one business day.
- 39:27Speaker 1: I applied online with no impact my credit score. She
- 39:30Speaker 1: always takes credit for my wins. But long story short,
- 39:33Speaker 1: she got an awesome loan, paid off our cards and
- 39:36Speaker 1: some bills while lowering our monthly payment. The best egg

- 39:51Speaker 1: This online bank was for closing on us. They even
- 39:54Speaker 1: had documents that I signed for a home equity loan.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Only I didn't want a nightmare. She's the victim of
- 40:01Speaker 1: a devastating crime called mortgage fraud. Your home's title and
- 40:05Speaker 1: mortgage are kept online where thieves for an end domestic
- 40:09Speaker 1: hack them. It's simple. They forge your title and borrow
- 40:12Speaker 1: every penny of equity you have in your home. Like
- 40:14Speaker 1: this police officer, I know about title fraud, so our
- 40:18Speaker 1: registered with Home Title Lock and discovered some thief had
- 40:21Speaker 1: already taken over title. Thank god I found out in time.

- 40:53Speaker 1: guy surprises you. Who with a bucket of hot wings
- 40:55Speaker 1: and a couple of microbrews. Yeah, that's the feeling women
- 40:58Speaker 1: get when they receive flowers for absolutely no reason. So
- 41:02Speaker 1: when's the last time you send her flowers just because
- 41:04Speaker 1: you were thinking of her? And if she got your
- 41:06Speaker 1: flowers tomorrow, what do you think her reaction might be? Well,
- 41:09Speaker 1: you can times tend that when you send flowers from
- 41:12Speaker 1: the books. You know, the books were the flower folks
- 41:15Speaker 1: with farms located on the side of a volcano that
- 41:18Speaker 1: grow flowers as spectacular as she is. Books are cut
- 41:22Speaker 1: from farms and delivered fresh to her. So they last.
- 41:25Speaker 1: And you know every day she admires your flowers is
- 41:27Speaker 1: another day your rock star. So send her just because
- 41:31Speaker 1: flowers from the books next day. Delivery yep, next day,

- 42:44Speaker 1: Dr Felicia Phillips, Thank you so much. Excited to be
- 42:48Speaker 1: here with you this morning. Thank you, first of all,
- 42:50Speaker 1: your articulate you got your hair right all right, now,
- 42:53Speaker 1: this is Atlanta. You are an entrepreneur. You you top
- 42:58Speaker 1: dogs serial like that. I like that and that's the
- 43:02Speaker 1: compliment coming from you. Thank you so much. First of all,
- 43:04Speaker 1: thank you for coming. Let's talk about this event that's
- 43:07Speaker 1: coming up, to talk about it twice because I really
- 43:09Speaker 1: want to get the word out, and they're gonna talk
- 43:11Speaker 1: about you and just talk about being an entrepreneur, being
- 43:14Speaker 1: a female, being a female in the house. You know,
- 43:16Speaker 1: it's really interesting being a female and today. You know,
- 43:19Speaker 1: when if you just flashed back twenty years ago, you know,
- 43:22Speaker 1: trying to do what you're trying to do today, you
- 43:25Speaker 1: had to ask for permission in a way. I'm gonna
- 43:27Speaker 1: say that, let's just say, because the social media wasn't there,
- 43:30Speaker 1: so well, let's permission you had. Maybe a radio station
- 43:32Speaker 1: might be permission there. Can you do mere favor over here? Oh? Yes,
- 43:36Speaker 1: social media hasn'tmpowered the female voice. Correct, you're correct, and
- 43:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. This
- 43:43Speaker 1: is my eight year So when you talk about no internet,
- 43:48Speaker 1: no social media, that was me when I started my
- 43:50Speaker 1: first business, and so a lot of that was knocking
- 43:54Speaker 1: on doors, making phone calls, showing up prepared right, doing,
- 43:59Speaker 1: like say, what most people won't do in order to
- 44:02Speaker 1: be successful. What happened once social media was introduced. I'll
- 44:08Speaker 1: tell you how I really feel about that. I think
- 44:10Speaker 1: it's great. But I think what people forget about having
- 44:13Speaker 1: a website and having social media is that you have
- 44:17Speaker 1: the opportunity to promote yourself around the world, because they
- 44:22Speaker 1: tend to only promote where they are locally, right geographically
- 44:26Speaker 1: to their area w w W worldwide, you said it,
- 44:29Speaker 1: and people forget that so much. There is so much
- 44:33Speaker 1: opportunity right at our fingertips that we don't take advantage of.
- 44:37Speaker 1: And that's because we've gotten a little relaxed. Right. Um,
- 44:42Speaker 1: technology is somewhat dumbed us down, right, Okay, I remember
- 44:47Speaker 1: when I first started my businesses, all my numbers were
- 44:49Speaker 1: right here and right. I didn't have to look at
- 44:52Speaker 1: my phone. And that's the point. We don't try to
- 44:57Speaker 1: do things because we depend on techn knowledge so much. Now,
- 45:01Speaker 1: how that relates the entrepreneurship is we try to google everything.
- 45:06Speaker 1: We try to look at okay, um, I'm gonna look
- 45:09Speaker 1: at what this person is doing online, and then we
- 45:11Speaker 1: try to apply that to our own business. That can
- 45:14Speaker 1: be reckless sometimes because the vision that you have for
- 45:17Speaker 1: your business is for you, the vision that that person
- 45:21Speaker 1: online has is for them. And what happens is sometimes
- 45:25Speaker 1: you lose the clarity in your vision and purpose because
- 45:30Speaker 1: you're watching what somebody else is doing. And so what
- 45:35Speaker 1: we have to realize is that we need to hire people,
- 45:38Speaker 1: We need to go to events like a mobil kN
- 45:40Speaker 1: that help us to concentrate on what we're doing and
- 45:45Speaker 1: what we're assigned to do specifically in our businesses, to
- 45:48Speaker 1: get those tools, those relationships and resources. And that's important.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And the reason I say that because of the fact
- 45:54Speaker 1: that when I look at you first of all, focused
- 45:59Speaker 1: was almost three kg here just not I didn't just
- 46:02Speaker 1: think of this last night, absolutely okay, because it's not
- 46:05Speaker 1: it's not just a passion for you, this is a mission.
- 46:09Speaker 1: It is passion doesn't pay the bill. The fashion doesn't
- 46:11Speaker 1: pay the bills, and norther passion convince people to consistently
- 46:15Speaker 1: pay the bills. People jump overboard and um and they
- 46:18Speaker 1: want to be a part of But who you trying
- 46:21Speaker 1: to read through? Those those those those bandwagon people. And
- 46:24Speaker 1: then you have a core people that consistently understand this
- 46:27Speaker 1: is what I'm doing and this is how I want
- 46:28Speaker 1: to work absolutely, So tell us about Mogol Khan. So
- 46:32Speaker 1: Mobile Khan. I've been doing conferences for the last ten
- 46:35Speaker 1: years to women, but in Atlanta, and I wanted to
- 46:39Speaker 1: do something specifically in the fourth quarter because people get
- 46:43Speaker 1: excited when it comes to the holidays, they lose focus
- 46:47Speaker 1: a little bit. The next thing they know, it's the
- 46:49Speaker 1: first of the year. It's January, right, and they're scrambling,
- 46:52Speaker 1: and by the time they get a real plan in place,
- 46:55Speaker 1: it's March. We've already lost three months in the year.
- 46:59Speaker 1: What Mogol Khan designed to do is to give you
- 47:02Speaker 1: that plan now so that you can get your campaigns together,
- 47:06Speaker 1: you can get your marketing together, and really understand who
- 47:09Speaker 1: your target audience is, because we talk about that a lot.
- 47:12Speaker 1: But what happens is when you first start your business
- 47:15Speaker 1: and then where you may be three to five years later,
- 47:17Speaker 1: maybe a totally different audience, and never stopped right there.
- 47:21Speaker 1: And what disappoints me is that people I don't want
- 47:24Speaker 1: to change because sometimes when your audience changed, there's traditional
- 47:27Speaker 1: work and some people don't see that one part of
- 47:30Speaker 1: the plan that's right, and so that's key. One of
- 47:33Speaker 1: the things that people have always I want to say
- 47:35Speaker 1: admired about me is that I'm willing to change gears.
- 47:39Speaker 1: And you know how to reinvent yourself? You don't, You
- 47:42Speaker 1: don't important, I don't. I don't. You show me a
- 47:46Speaker 1: direction where money can be made. I'm reinventing myself in
- 47:49Speaker 1: that direction. And I think that and I and I'm fearless.
- 47:52Speaker 1: And so let's talk about fearlessness and fear because you're fearless,
- 47:58Speaker 1: but fear stops so many people. Great point, So let's
- 48:02Speaker 1: talk about it because especially I see this with women.
- 48:06Speaker 1: So I'll tell you the difference in what I see
- 48:07Speaker 1: with a man and what I see what the want.
- 48:10Speaker 1: If there's a job and a man looks at all
- 48:13Speaker 1: of the qualification, if he has thirty percent of those
- 48:16Speaker 1: qualifications and he has the confidence to go after it,
- 48:19Speaker 1: he's gonna do it. But what a woman will do
- 48:22Speaker 1: is she'll look at it and she'll say, well, I
- 48:24Speaker 1: only have and she'll walk away, and that job may
- 48:29Speaker 1: have been perfect for her had she had the confidence
- 48:32Speaker 1: to go after. What I tell people is we always
- 48:36Speaker 1: hear that fear is false ever disappearing real, right, But
- 48:40Speaker 1: fear is also fuel because the fear is what wakes
- 48:44Speaker 1: me up every day to do what I do. Fear
- 48:47Speaker 1: makes me fearless because I know if I don't get up,
- 48:51Speaker 1: if I don't show up every day consistently, I'm not
- 48:54Speaker 1: gonna get paid. I'm not gonna be able to get
- 48:58Speaker 1: that revenue, get that profit, increa some clients. I'm not
- 49:01Speaker 1: gonna be able to attract what I need to attract
- 49:04Speaker 1: for myself, my life and my business if I don't
- 49:06Speaker 1: show up. And so what fear does for me is
- 49:09Speaker 1: I turned it into fuel and it makes me go
- 49:12Speaker 1: after those goals. And I think that's what we have
- 49:15Speaker 1: to look at. It's okay a little fear. You may
- 49:17Speaker 1: have a talk and you gotta get on stage and
- 49:19Speaker 1: feel a little fear. You may have a business, mean
- 49:21Speaker 1: you feel a little fear, use that for fuel to
- 49:24Speaker 1: really get you in there to get because your passion
- 49:26Speaker 1: can convince people, but your work is what keeps them right.
- 49:29Speaker 1: You know, it's really funny that you say that about
- 49:32Speaker 1: different There's a difference between men and women when it
- 49:34Speaker 1: comes to you know, as a as a guy that
- 49:38Speaker 1: has been I feel my ability to um, I want
- 49:42Speaker 1: to say b S, but I would say my ability
- 49:44Speaker 1: to be able to talk my way into an opportunity,
- 49:47Speaker 1: even though I know I do. The resume doesn't match.
- 49:50Speaker 1: I don't care. And my wife's Chaire was gets mad
- 49:53Speaker 1: at me because in a good way, because she knows
- 49:56Speaker 1: I don't know I do it. Why Why why are
- 50:01Speaker 1: we waiting around here? Let's go, Let's go what you
- 50:03Speaker 1: have done to Hey, Hey, let's go. Let's go and
- 50:05Speaker 1: I let's go mentality, And I've tried to instill that
- 50:08Speaker 1: my daughter. You know that you know understand that there
- 50:11Speaker 1: are no barriers. They could be self imposed barriers, but
- 50:15Speaker 1: there are no barriers. There should be racial barriers, there
- 50:18Speaker 1: should be no financial barriers, that be no gender barriers.
- 50:21Speaker 1: And we put these barriers in front of us because
- 50:24Speaker 1: of the fact that we feel that there should be
- 50:26Speaker 1: a limited It's somehow in our minds we feel because
- 50:30Speaker 1: because I was remember when I when I go around
- 50:32Speaker 1: successful people, you'll see their kids show up, Okay, their
- 50:36Speaker 1: kids to be on set or athletes. They'll bring their
- 50:38Speaker 1: kids to the baseball park, and it guess what they're
- 50:41Speaker 1: comfortable with being around these environments because guess what they've
- 50:44Speaker 1: been told is all right? When in minority communities, we've
- 50:48Speaker 1: never been told anything. We've been told what we cannot do,
- 50:51Speaker 1: what we should not go, what we cannot say, and
- 50:54Speaker 1: who we should represent, who represents our our beliefs should
- 50:58Speaker 1: be successful. We just athletes and entertainers. Okay, scholars, you
- 51:04Speaker 1: can't even phantom that. Well, that means, that means four
- 51:07Speaker 1: years of education, could be a doctor. That's eight years lawyers,
- 51:10Speaker 1: eight years athlete. Okay, I can just graduated high school.
- 51:12Speaker 1: I can slam dunk. Oh my goodness, you said so much,
- 51:15Speaker 1: so much right there. So imagine when you talk about
- 51:19Speaker 1: in the minority community, also talking about being a female
- 51:25Speaker 1: in the minority community. So now you got that double
- 51:28Speaker 1: whammy going on. And then you couple that with feet. Right,
- 51:32Speaker 1: So if every day somebody is telling you what you
- 51:34Speaker 1: can't be, and I can remember growing up and I'll
- 51:37Speaker 1: tell you I'm a dad is girl. So my dad
- 51:39Speaker 1: was an entrepreneur and he would say, listen, if you
- 51:44Speaker 1: show up and if you do what you're supposed to
- 51:47Speaker 1: do every day, which is keep your word. Keep your word.
- 51:52Speaker 1: That's what's missing. You gotta keep your word. You gotta
- 51:55Speaker 1: do it with integrity. Race, yes, can play a small
- 51:59Speaker 1: fact there, but people don't do business with you because
- 52:04Speaker 1: of race. They do it because of the quality of
- 52:07Speaker 1: work that you bring. And when you bring quality that
- 52:10Speaker 1: cannot be refuted about a racist person will will eat
- 52:14Speaker 1: at your restaurant if the food is good. Yes, yes
- 52:17Speaker 1: they will. But you know the thing about it is
- 52:21Speaker 1: that I know it is this and I and I
- 52:24Speaker 1: know that I know them African American male. I know
- 52:27Speaker 1: and I know that there is a salaries that can
- 52:30Speaker 1: be tamed different. I know their opportunity, but I never
- 52:33Speaker 1: allowed it to stop me. I never I I would
- 52:37Speaker 1: never give it power. I would never give it power
- 52:41Speaker 1: to say that I'm not going to be who I
- 52:43Speaker 1: can be because I'm an African American. You know, I'm
- 52:47Speaker 1: I came from in the city. Uh. I never wanted
- 52:50Speaker 1: to empower that and give it the tool to win
- 52:54Speaker 1: over me. And so so when you go to an
- 52:56Speaker 1: event like Mogo Calm, I know we we've got another
- 52:59Speaker 1: break and I don't want to push you to that break.
- 53:01Speaker 1: But just just just what, just what just the experience
- 53:04Speaker 1: and why did you start it? So the experience is this.
- 53:08Speaker 1: We talked about this being a time for women, and
- 53:12Speaker 1: right now it is, and especially women of color, because
- 53:14Speaker 1: we have grown in the last five years six d
- 53:19Speaker 1: in entrepreneurship, in creating businesses. Here's the thing you talked
- 53:23Speaker 1: about the disparity in our community, which means we haven't
- 53:27Speaker 1: been exposed to having a business coach. We haven't been
- 53:30Speaker 1: exposed to having platforms like this right. So what Mobile
- 53:34Speaker 1: Khan does over the three days is help you to
- 53:37Speaker 1: understand what you don't know. Thank you for coming in,
- 53:40Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. I don't know. She's so
- 53:42Speaker 1: loud because I can't do anything for you know. I'm
- 53:45Speaker 1: gonna see if I can call my wife when I
- 53:46Speaker 1: hang up to focus see if she happen. She she
- 53:48Speaker 1: always had planned in her life anyway. But you should

- 53:55Speaker 1: is something I feel that every woman, everyone should be
- 53:59Speaker 1: a part of. And you you a thank you in
- 54:02Speaker 1: a very good way. They want to know right now. Yeah,
- 54:08Speaker 1: we sort of stopped paying attention and racked up a
- 54:10Speaker 1: lot of debt. Yeah, it was stressful. He blamed me
- 54:13Speaker 1: for my credit card debt and I blamed him for
- 54:15Speaker 1: building that man cave. It's awesome anyway, we stopped blaming
- 54:19Speaker 1: each other, did our homework and read that a smart
- 54:21Speaker 1: way to consolidate debt is to get a fixed rate loan.
- 54:24Speaker 1: But getting a loan was brutal and a time drain.
- 54:27Speaker 1: So I was in my man cave researching personal loans
- 54:30Speaker 1: and I found best Egg. They have an A plus
- 54:33Speaker 1: rating with the B B B and best Egg handles
- 54:35Speaker 1: everything online start to finish, and Consumer Affairs gave best

- 54:44Speaker 1: one business day. I applied online with no impact to
- 54:47Speaker 1: my credit score. She always takes credit from my wins.
- 54:49Speaker 1: But long story short, she got an awesome loan, paid
- 54:52Speaker 1: off our cards and some bills while lowering our monthly payment.
