- 0:00Speaker 1: On our trade policies with Biden, we're losing five billion
- 0:04Speaker 1: dollars a day. How many how many groups could lose
- 0:07Speaker 1: five billion a day? If you lose five billion one day,
- 0:09Speaker 1: that's the end of that company. You fired, He says,
- 0:12Speaker 1: you fired, get out of here. So we essentially did that,
- 0:15Speaker 1: and we have it down to a very low number.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're doing really well, really well.
- 0:20Speaker 2: You're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Good Tuesday morning.
- 0:24Speaker 4: Welcome, it is the forty seven Morning Update, Ben Ferguson
- 0:28Speaker 4: with you, and I want to say, first off, for
- 0:30Speaker 4: many of you that may be hearing this show for
- 0:31Speaker 4: the first time, thank you for joining us, and make
- 0:34Speaker 4: sure you hit that subscribe or auto download button so
- 0:37Speaker 4: you do not miss a single episode of the forty
- 0:39Speaker 4: seven Morning Update. Now, we've got three big stories for you,
- 0:42Speaker 4: and the first one deals with your safety, as Donald
- 0:45Speaker 4: Trump has issued a major executive order restricting the funding
- 0:50Speaker 4: for gain of function research. I'll have all the details
- 0:54Speaker 4: on this amazing moment in the Trump presidency on that
- 0:58Speaker 4: in just a second.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Up.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Now, pro immigration advocates losing their mind. Is Donald Trump's
- 1:04Speaker 4: Department of Homeland Security is now offering one thousand dollars
- 1:08Speaker 4: and a free fight for illegal immigrants who self deport
- 1:13Speaker 4: So why are they so against it? We'll have that
- 1:15Speaker 4: for you in just a moment as well. And finally,
- 1:18Speaker 4: Donald Trump has a big week at the White House,
- 1:20Speaker 4: meeting with Canada as well as talking with China on
- 1:24Speaker 4: trade negotiations. It's the forty seven Morning Update and it
- 1:28Speaker 4: starts right now.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Story number one. Common sense is back in the White House.
- 1:33Speaker 4: We all know that, but now we have a president
- 1:35Speaker 4: that's making sure that certain things that changed our world
- 1:39Speaker 4: forever may never happen again. President Donald Trump issuing a
- 1:43Speaker 4: very important executive order restricting federal funding for research that
- 1:49Speaker 4: involves a controversial field of scientific study known as gain
- 1:54Speaker 4: of function research. Now, the research, which is also known
- 1:58Speaker 4: as quote dual use research, involves experimenting with viruses and
- 2:03Speaker 4: other pathogens that have the potential to trigger a pandemic.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Those studies could discover how infectious agents might become more
- 2:11Speaker 4: transmissible or make people even sicker. This field has long
- 2:16Speaker 4: been controversial because of fears that scientists could make a
- 2:20Speaker 4: more dangerous pathogen in their lap that could get out
- 2:23Speaker 4: and cause eight pandemic. Well, those concerns became a reality
- 2:27Speaker 4: with COVID nineteen, and those concerns have led to many
- 2:31Speaker 4: efforts over the years to more tightly monitor and control
- 2:35Speaker 4: this type of gain of function research. Now, many didn't
- 2:39Speaker 4: even know about gain of function research and what it
- 2:42Speaker 4: actually meant until COVID nineteen pandemic hit. One theory for
- 2:46Speaker 4: how the pandemic started says that these stars COVID two
- 2:50Speaker 4: virus which causes COVID nineteen, spilled out of that Chinese
- 2:54Speaker 4: Wuhan Institute of Virology.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Don't worry.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Our government at the time said no, no, no, that
- 2:59Speaker 4: didn't happen, and doctor Fauci was one of those involved.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You may also remember.
- 3:04Speaker 4: That doctor Fauci said that he wasn't funding gain of
- 3:07Speaker 4: function research technology, when in fact he absolutely was. And
- 3:12Speaker 4: when I say he was funding it, it means your
- 3:14Speaker 4: tax dollars were going exactly to that quote. Many people
- 3:18Speaker 4: believe that gain of function research was one of the
- 3:20Speaker 4: key causes of the COVID pandemic that struck us in
- 3:23Speaker 4: the last decade. That's the White House Secretary Will Scarf
- 3:27Speaker 4: set That is exactly what this executive order does. First
- 3:30Speaker 4: of all, it provides powerful new tools to enforce the
- 3:34Speaker 4: ban on federal funding of gain of function research abroad.
- 3:37Speaker 4: It also strengthens other oversight mechanisms related to that issue
- 3:42Speaker 4: and creates an overarching strategy to ensure that biomedical research
- 3:47Speaker 4: in general is being conducted safely. Many scientists have said, well,
- 3:52Speaker 4: hold on a second, we need to weigh the evidence
- 3:56Speaker 4: and understand that pandemics can happen, and that we can
- 3:59Speaker 4: learn from them when they do happen. When the reality
- 4:02Speaker 4: is as well, we know where this started, and it
- 4:05Speaker 4: wasn't in China in the wet market. It was in
- 4:07Speaker 4: the Wuhan Institute of Virology where they were doing gain
- 4:12Speaker 4: of function research. Now, according to the White House, the
- 4:15Speaker 4: executive order would block any US funding of gain of
- 4:19Speaker 4: function research and countries of concern such as China and Iran,
- 4:23Speaker 4: as well as other foreign nations deemed to have insufficient
- 4:27Speaker 4: research oversight. The order also prohibits US tax dollars from
- 4:32Speaker 4: contributing to foreign research likely to cause another pandemic, and
- 4:36Speaker 4: also US dollars in general. The order also quote empowers
- 4:40Speaker 4: American research agencies to identify an in federal funding of
- 4:45Speaker 4: other biological research that could pose a threat to American
- 4:49Speaker 4: public health, public safety, or national security that according to
- 4:53Speaker 4: the White House's own fact sheet on this issue in
- 4:56Speaker 4: executive order, the order will quote increase the safety security
- 5:00Speaker 4: of biological research without impending US innovation. The White House
- 5:05Speaker 4: also issued statements from several top Trump administration officials who
- 5:09Speaker 4: argued the funding restriction is quote necessary. The Health and
- 5:13Speaker 4: Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Junior put it this way, saying, quote,
- 5:17Speaker 4: I commend President Trump for his courage and his vision.
- 5:21Speaker 4: This is a historic day, is what doctor J. Bodicari,
- 5:25Speaker 4: the director of the National Institute of Health, said. The
- 5:28Speaker 4: conduct of this research does not protect us against pandemics,
- 5:31Speaker 4: as some people might say. It doesn't protect us against
- 5:34Speaker 4: other nations. There's always a danger in doing this research.
- 5:38Speaker 4: It might leak out just by accident even and cause
- 5:41Speaker 4: a pandemic. It is crazy to think the entire nightmare
- 5:45Speaker 4: was probably the result of some scientists messing with Mother
- 5:49Speaker 4: Nature and a laboratory with technology, is what the Food
- 5:52Speaker 4: and Drug Administration Commissioner doctor Marty Mcarrey said about Donald
- 5:57Speaker 4: Trump's executive order. At the end of the day, what
- 6:01Speaker 4: you need to know is this, the President knew there
- 6:03Speaker 4: was a problem. He knew the Gang of Function research
- 6:06Speaker 4: was out of control. He knew that your tax dollars
- 6:09Speaker 4: should not be going to adversaries like China and Iran,
- 6:12Speaker 4: and he's stopping it once and for all.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Next story number two.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Media going crazy because they're actually having to cover a
- 6:22Speaker 4: brilliant idea from the Trump administration, the ideas to save
- 6:26Speaker 4: American taxpayer's money while also getting deportations underway in a
- 6:31Speaker 4: very serious way. With a large number of people self deporting.
- 6:35Speaker 4: How does it work? We're going to pay them to
- 6:38Speaker 4: do it. The Trump administration has now come out saying
- 6:41Speaker 4: they are willing to pay one thousand dollars to an
- 6:43Speaker 4: undocumented immigrant who self deports. The Department of Homeland Security
- 6:48Speaker 4: announcement will provide travel assistance and a thousand dollars stipend
- 6:53Speaker 4: to those who use the CBP home app to actually
- 6:56Speaker 4: leave the United States of America. The Department of Home
- 7:00Speaker 4: When Security says, we are intensifying our efforts to persuade
- 7:04Speaker 4: unauthorize immigrants to self deport by offering them the thousand
- 7:09Speaker 4: dollars stipend in the travel assistance. This will save Americans money. Now,
- 7:13Speaker 4: the best part about this story is the fact that
- 7:16Speaker 4: the media is actually having to cover it and they
- 7:19Speaker 4: don't know how to criticize it, but they don't like it.
- 7:22Speaker 4: CBS News putting a big story out there, and here's
- 7:26Speaker 4: how they explained it to their audience.
- 7:29Speaker 3: So, Willie, how would this actually work?
- 7:32Speaker 5: It is, Juliet, good to be with you on this
- 7:34Speaker 5: Monday afternoon.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Well, the Trump.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Administration is looking to deport migrants this way in large
- 7:38Speaker 5: part because it would save the government money. That's part
- 7:42Speaker 5: of the thinking here.
- 7:44Speaker 3: A Department of.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Homeland Security official will explain that it costs about seventeen
- 7:48Speaker 5: thousand dollars to find and apprehend in a migrant who
- 7:52Speaker 5: is undocumented here in the United States and to port them,
- 7:55Speaker 5: so this could potentially save the government one thousands of
- 7:58Speaker 5: dollars per person. And the President spoke about this earlier today.
- 8:02Speaker 6: Listen, but what we thought we'd do is a self
- 8:04Speaker 6: deport where we're going to pay each one a certain
- 8:07Speaker 6: amount of money, and we're going to get them a
- 8:09Speaker 6: beautiful flight back to where they came from, and they
- 8:12Speaker 6: have a period of time and if they make it,
- 8:14Speaker 6: we're going to work with them so that maybe someday,
- 8:17Speaker 6: with little work, they can come back in if they're
- 8:19Speaker 6: good people, if they're the kind of people that we
- 8:21Speaker 6: want in our company, industrious people that could love our country,
- 8:26Speaker 6: and if they're not, they won't.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Now, the way that migrants can sign up for this
- 8:30Speaker 5: program is by using the CBP home app.
- 8:34Speaker 3: That is the.
- 8:34Speaker 5: App that was used under the Biden administration for migrants
- 8:38Speaker 5: to register themselves here who they could be, the government
- 8:43Speaker 5: could have information about them and their status here in
- 8:46Speaker 5: the United States. But the Trump administration is using this
- 8:49Speaker 5: as a way for migrants to not only register themselves,
- 8:52Speaker 5: but to self deport as well. So the government looking
- 8:56Speaker 5: to save some money here, you're looking to collect some
- 8:58Speaker 5: information from those undocumented migrants.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And I'll add that.
- 9:03Speaker 5: The effort to deport migrants has really been slowed by
- 9:06Speaker 5: the courts. We've seen the Trump ministration try to deport
- 9:09Speaker 5: migrants in different ways, using the Alien Enemies Act, for instance,
- 9:12Speaker 5: But this way in particular, quite a novel idea that
- 9:17Speaker 5: the Trump administration is using, but one that they believe
- 9:20Speaker 5: could save the government thousands of dollars per individual.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Julia, by the way, not thousands, tens of thousands of
- 9:27Speaker 4: dollars per immigrant illegal. Let's just call them what it is.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Legal Now, the left is just losing their mind. Pro
- 9:34Speaker 4: immigration advocates are slamming the Department of Home and Security,
- 9:38Speaker 4: the Trump administration offering this money. They are denouncing it,
- 9:42Speaker 4: and they're quote urging illegal migrants to reject President Donald
- 9:46Speaker 4: Trump's offer of one thousand dollars in the free airline
- 9:49Speaker 4: ticket to leave the country. Quote this opinion might be
- 9:52Speaker 4: worse for people who take advantage of it, claimed Aaron Kreshelan,
- 9:56Speaker 4: a pro immigration advocate for the Immigration Council Advocacy group.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Quote for people illegal immigrants in immigration court, it would
- 10:05Speaker 4: likely mean a deportation order. For others not detained for deportation,
- 10:10Speaker 4: it would abandon clear options for staying. So they're saying,
- 10:15Speaker 4: dig in, don't take de bait, don't leave America. Steven
- 10:19Speaker 4: Miller putting out a tweet putting it this way, The
- 10:22Speaker 4: savings are as much as one million per illegal alien family,
- 10:27Speaker 4: given the long term costs of free welfare and public support.
- 10:31Speaker 4: And that is exactly why the Trump administration is now saying,
- 10:35Speaker 4: we are willing to begin paying for the commercial flights
- 10:39Speaker 4: of illegal aliens who self deport from the US. We
- 10:42Speaker 4: will pay these aliens in additional thousand dollars once they
- 10:45Speaker 4: are confirmed have left the country, the Department of Oland
- 10:48Speaker 4: Security telling Fox News it will save American taxpayers seventy
- 10:53Speaker 4: percent as it currently costs DHS on average over seventeen
- 10:57Speaker 4: thousand to arrest, detain, and to port someone from the
- 11:00Speaker 4: US while paying for self removal flights, and the stipend
- 11:04Speaker 4: has protected to cost just four thy five hundred and
- 11:07Speaker 4: also will be safer for ice and preserve their resources.
- 11:11Speaker 4: Illegal aliens here's the rules. Must register on the CBP
- 11:16Speaker 4: home app and file their notice to leave the US
- 11:19Speaker 4: in order to receive the financial assistance, and the stipend
- 11:23Speaker 4: will only be paid once the alien is confirmed to
- 11:25Speaker 4: have left the United States.
- 11:27Speaker 2: And here is story number three.
- 11:28Speaker 4: President Donald Trump is fresh office, hundred days in office,
- 11:32Speaker 4: and now we are getting worried that his administration has
- 11:35Speaker 4: no plan to slow down in the coming weeks, months,
- 11:39Speaker 4: or even years. This week, we're celebrating the most successful
- 11:42Speaker 4: first one hundred days of any presidential administration in the
- 11:45Speaker 4: history of our country. Is what Trump had to say
- 11:48Speaker 4: as he was addressing the University of Alabama on Thursday
- 11:51Speaker 4: at his commencement speech.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Fast forward to week sixteen.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Back in the Oval Office, and we now know what's
- 11:58Speaker 4: happening when it comes to the issue of trade with
- 12:01Speaker 4: The President is meeting with Canada's new leader and having
- 12:05Speaker 4: ongoing talks as well between Russia and Ukraine, and trade
- 12:10Speaker 4: negotiations with foreign nations are also expected to continue heating
- 12:14Speaker 4: up at the White House today. Now the Canadian Prime
- 12:18Speaker 4: Minister to visit the White House and a major point
- 12:21Speaker 4: that they will be speaking about will be how they
- 12:24Speaker 4: can work on their trade deal.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Now.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Carney's Liberal party emerged victorious in the nation's federal elections
- 12:32Speaker 4: last week, and now they will discuss the twenty five
- 12:35Speaker 4: percent tariff imposed on goods from the nation sent to
- 12:38Speaker 4: the US and Trump's repeated urging that the US northern
- 12:42Speaker 4: neighbor become the fifty first state.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Yes, it's still kind of a joke.
- 12:47Speaker 4: We are meeting as heads of our government, Carney said
- 12:50Speaker 4: Friday of the upcoming meeting. And I'm not pretending that
- 12:53Speaker 4: those discussions will be easy, he said.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Now.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Trump added during his cabinet meeting with members on Thursday
- 13:00Speaker 4: that he said it was important that America get a
- 13:02Speaker 4: fair trade deal with Carne after Canada's elections, and predicted
- 13:07Speaker 4: they would have a quote great working relationship, saying he's
- 13:11Speaker 4: going to come to the White House very shortly, within
- 13:13Speaker 4: the next week or less, and everything will be on
- 13:16Speaker 4: the table. We also are finding out there's some movement
- 13:19Speaker 4: with China, as Beijing is evaluating trade negotiation offer as well.
- 13:24Speaker 4: In fact, China's Commerce Ministry is now said publicly that
- 13:28Speaker 4: they are in negotiations with the US and that officials
- 13:31Speaker 4: are quote evaluating an offer from the Trump administration to
- 13:36Speaker 4: hold trade talks on the one hundred and forty five
- 13:39Speaker 4: percent US tariffs on Chinese goods. This is signaling it
- 13:42Speaker 4: could be a very busy week of discussions if China
- 13:45Speaker 4: accepts the offer.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Quote.
- 13:47Speaker 4: The US has recently taken the initiative on many occasions
- 13:50Speaker 4: to convey information in China through relevant parties, saying it
- 13:53Speaker 4: hopes to talk with China. That coming from a new
- 13:57Speaker 4: report from Reuters. So what is the President doing, Well,
- 14:00Speaker 4: it's the art of the deal. He's attempting to use
- 14:02Speaker 4: the talks to get a better deal for American taxpayers
- 14:06Speaker 4: and also so that the world can go back to
- 14:08Speaker 4: more of a normal trading capacity. Back and forth, Trump
- 14:12Speaker 4: and the administration made it clear we're not going to
- 14:15Speaker 4: be taken advantage of, and neither will American workers. But
- 14:18Speaker 4: we're willing to hold trade negotiation with China, including the
- 14:21Speaker 4: President saying on April the eighth that we are waiting
- 14:24Speaker 4: for their call.
- 14:25Speaker 3: It will happen now.
- 14:27Speaker 4: The President said on NBC News Is Meet the Press
- 14:29Speaker 4: on Sunday that he will not drop the tariffs to
- 14:31Speaker 4: bring China to the negotiating table. He said that is
- 14:35Speaker 4: a non starter, so the present still holding firm, but
- 14:39Speaker 4: saying we're more than ready to have a real talk
- 14:41Speaker 4: about changing the way that America has been taken advantage of.
