- 1:28Speaker 1: her forever, that's how special she is to me. The
- 1:32Speaker 1: other one, I've been admiring him forever. So here's a couple.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I call him a power couple. My next the Next
- 1:38Speaker 1: Power Couple. She is an actress, author, talk show host,
- 1:42Speaker 1: activists and philanthropists, and he is an NFL veteran quarterback
- 1:46Speaker 1: and a member of the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame
- 1:49Speaker 1: and the University of Southern California Hall of Fame. They're
- 1:53Speaker 1: on the show to day to talk about their Hallmark
- 1:56Speaker 1: Channel's family docuseries Meet the Peats, which is returning for
- 2:00Speaker 1: a second season, Please work on the money making conversation
- 2:03Speaker 1: Rodney and Holly Robinson Pete. Good wow, that was a
- 2:09Speaker 1: good well. Thank you my friend, Thank you people. Just Holly,
- 2:22Speaker 1: you know our relationship goes way back in this business
- 2:24Speaker 1: and your mom my lover to death. We've we've shared
- 2:27Speaker 1: meals together and uh, but I want to take a
- 2:29Speaker 1: few minutes to talk to your husband, Rodney. This is
- 2:32Speaker 1: my first time speaking to him in person. Uh, Rodney, UM,
- 2:37Speaker 1: we'll just tell you something man, as an African American male,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and then watching what you've done in your collegiate career
- 2:44Speaker 1: at the Universe Southern California, being a black quarterback, Um,
- 2:49Speaker 1: what was was? You know? The thing about it is
- 2:51Speaker 1: that when you when you're trying to be successful in life,
- 2:55Speaker 1: when you're trying to see if you can, if you
- 2:57Speaker 1: can be special, if you can do it, and you
- 2:59Speaker 1: see a talent like you go to a major school
- 3:03Speaker 1: this and then that, then that's what you're seeing. You're
- 3:06Speaker 1: se is a school, it's one of the one of
- 3:10Speaker 1: the gold stars of college football. And see him starting
- 3:14Speaker 1: their quarterback did a lot for me in the black community.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Just let you know that. And then when he went
- 3:22Speaker 1: to the NFA. When I'm telling man, have you I
- 3:26Speaker 1: know you've heard this before, the impact that you made,
- 3:29Speaker 1: come on now, you know it's it's it's um it's
- 3:31Speaker 1: really it's really interesting because we're you know, here we
- 3:34Speaker 1: are in two thousand nineteen, and you know at that
- 3:37Speaker 1: time and and you do see a lot more you know,
- 3:41Speaker 1: black quarterback, especially in college that you said that you've
- 3:44Speaker 1: seen or you saw what I was playing in the
- 3:46Speaker 1: eighties and the late eighties and early nineties. Um, so
- 3:50Speaker 1: when you're doing it, you don't think about it. Well,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I have to say it because of the fact that
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, when you when you see a Warren Moon
- 3:56Speaker 1: got to go to Canada to play, and and then
- 3:58Speaker 1: you see you know, the the you know, I've seen
- 4:02Speaker 1: so many and it becomes a racial thing, and it
- 4:04Speaker 1: has to be stated. You know, at one point, like
- 4:07Speaker 1: I've always said on my show, that that the quarterback
- 4:10Speaker 1: position was a reserve position for the white player, the
- 4:13Speaker 1: center was a reserve position for the white player, and
- 4:16Speaker 1: the middle linebacker position at one time was the reserve
- 4:18Speaker 1: position for a white player. And you broke that barrier.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Now even today, I don't trivialize the you know, the
- 4:25Speaker 1: the Shaun Watson, the Camp Newton's. You know, Kyler Murray
- 4:29Speaker 1: coming out this year, maybe the first pick in the draft,
- 4:33Speaker 1: the young man out of Ohio State. But you, my
- 4:36Speaker 1: friend was there before the combines. She was there before
- 4:40Speaker 1: people even they questioned a lot of things about you
- 4:43Speaker 1: that you had to overcome even when you became a
- 4:46Speaker 1: professional football player. If I'm not trying to put you
- 4:50Speaker 1: on the spot, but i just want to let you
- 4:51Speaker 1: know the role you played and changing people's lives like mine,
- 4:55Speaker 1: let me know that I can be successful. Well, thank
- 4:59Speaker 1: you very much for saying and I really do appreciate that.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And you did you mean you mentioned you mentioned Warren
- 5:04Speaker 1: Moons who had to go to Canada, and just just
- 5:07Speaker 1: think about that for a second. Let that sit in
- 5:09Speaker 1: because you talk about a guy Hall of famer when
- 5:13Speaker 1: he finally got his opportunity in the NFL, did did
- 5:16Speaker 1: amazing things and and but didn't get that a shot initially.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But it was a perseverance. And I think that the
- 5:22Speaker 1: fact that he came before me, Guys like James Harris
- 5:25Speaker 1: came before me, Doug Williams came before me, and those
- 5:28Speaker 1: guys that you know, like you said, those positions of
- 5:31Speaker 1: the quarterbacks, center, middle linebacker are always reserved for white players. Um.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And that perception kept going and kept going even as
- 5:40Speaker 1: times would change in years ago and the success, people
- 5:44Speaker 1: in the back of their mind still had that perception
- 5:47Speaker 1: of a black quarterback. So um, so I appreciate that man,
- 5:51Speaker 1: and and uh and and then to see you know
- 5:53Speaker 1: some of the guys flurs today, that's uh, that's oppressive. Absolutely.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I want to thank you and I want to thank
- 5:58Speaker 1: you humbleness because of that. I just wanted to let
- 6:01Speaker 1: you know. I know why uh, you guys are on
- 6:04Speaker 1: the show, but I feel I'll be remiss not to
- 6:06Speaker 1: let you know the impact you made on me. And
- 6:08Speaker 1: I know if you made an impact on me, you
- 6:10Speaker 1: may I'm back on thousands of young people and young
- 6:14Speaker 1: and grown men now who are probably successful because they
- 6:17Speaker 1: saw you beat the odds. And that's important that when
- 6:20Speaker 1: you beat the odds, you know that lets you know
- 6:22Speaker 1: that's an opportunity because people are telling you what you
- 6:25Speaker 1: cannot do, and that that's that's very special. And I
- 6:27Speaker 1: want to continue that. You have a show on l
- 6:30Speaker 1: A called Lunchtime on Yes, Yes it's uh, we do
- 6:36Speaker 1: a sports talk radio show. I deal it with a
- 6:38Speaker 1: local broadcaster here in l A named Fred Rogan. So
- 6:41Speaker 1: it's a lunchtime with Rogan and Ron. That's a little
- 6:45Speaker 1: you are out there a little bit, a little bit.
- 6:48Speaker 1: We try to keep it light, but but we jack
- 6:50Speaker 1: on the tack on the tough topics as well. But yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: new the three out here in l A. Cool. Well,
- 6:55Speaker 1: let me bring back my favorite lady. Now, enough of
- 6:58Speaker 1: our this, this bromance. Enough is Broman. I can't believe
- 7:03Speaker 1: he's talking like that. You talk like this. Here's the
- 7:08Speaker 1: thing with Sean which you don't know, and Rodney knows
- 7:11Speaker 1: this about me is I'm sitting them here with Duck
- 7:13Speaker 1: Cape on my mouth, trying not to chime in. Because
- 7:16Speaker 1: even when I see like the Kyler Murray's right now,
- 7:19Speaker 1: you know, I'm a big football fan. Important even when
- 7:22Speaker 1: I see this young guy at the combine and people
- 7:26Speaker 1: starting to spread rumors about how he's not this not
- 7:29Speaker 1: that they're even trying to throw Solt in his game today,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I'm very, very very passionate about this topic. I didn't
- 7:35Speaker 1: know Rodney when he was being drafted, but I do
- 7:37Speaker 1: know the stories, and I know what he had to
- 7:39Speaker 1: go through being his wife so I just really appreciate
- 7:43Speaker 1: you giving him love. It's it's a few days away
- 7:45Speaker 1: from his birthday. So we're gonna we're gonna shower right.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Let you get some love. I'm gonna drop some of
- 7:51Speaker 1: my social media for you, brother. I love it and
- 7:55Speaker 1: I'll repost it. I'm just telling you know, it's really great.
- 7:59Speaker 1: You know, I followed your your relationship with over the years,
- 8:02Speaker 1: or the engagement and all that, and the marriage, and
- 8:06Speaker 1: that the thing that I really feel when when you
- 8:09Speaker 1: live the moment, Rodney, you sometimes you just just live
- 8:13Speaker 1: in the moment. You're just doing what God gave you
- 8:16Speaker 1: to do. You you you you you you You're man
- 8:18Speaker 1: enough to not accept the word that the accept rejection.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You say, hey man, it's on me. And I know
- 8:24Speaker 1: that you went to USC brother, Okay, that's no joke.
- 8:28Speaker 1: This is this is just a no joke college. You
- 8:30Speaker 1: know that you know, and and people questioning you. And
- 8:32Speaker 1: then when you went to get into the pros and
- 8:35Speaker 1: to be a starting quarterback, successful starting quarterback, not on
- 8:39Speaker 1: but two very successful opportunities at a high level. That's incredible.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And I think that and I and I used to
- 8:46Speaker 1: I used to owe Sundays man at the end of
- 8:48Speaker 1: the day. I used to always look at your stats. Alright,
- 8:50Speaker 1: oh go through an interception. Oh man, you do it?
- 8:53Speaker 1: You know because I I hinged on your touchdowns, I
- 8:57Speaker 1: hinged on your winds. It was it was just amaz
- 9:00Speaker 1: easy that you have your affectively like that. And I
- 9:02Speaker 1: just want to just take this break because we're gonna
- 9:04Speaker 1: come back in a minute and talk about the show
- 9:06Speaker 1: and the foundation and uh ms. Robinson. Want to let
- 9:11Speaker 1: you know that I have not been getting my UM
- 9:14Speaker 1: invoices my so I can send my donations and we'll
- 9:17Speaker 1: talking about that in the next break. We're gonna have changed,
- 9:22Speaker 1: gotta get some business going on that and then we're
- 9:23Speaker 1: gonna talk about that when we come right back. Um,
- 9:26Speaker 1: my favorite two favorite people in the world. I guess
- 9:28Speaker 1: you have to shower him with love. Rodney and Holly Robinson.
- 9:32Speaker 1: People right back talking about their show, Meet the Pizza
- 9:35Speaker 1: and their incredible foundations. That's um been changing people last
- 9:39Speaker 1: for years. You right back with more money making conversations. Hi,
- 9:44Speaker 1: this was Sean mcdonalmoie. My two guests on the phone
- 9:47Speaker 1: are a power couple like Calma power couple, or they're
- 9:49Speaker 1: on the shore to talk about their Hallmark Channels family
- 9:53Speaker 1: docuseries called Meet the Pizza, which is returning for a
- 9:56Speaker 1: second season. Please welcome back to Money Making Conversation, Rodney,
- 10:00Speaker 1: Holly Robinson, Pete Holly, how you doing, girl, I'm doing,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Jeff fine. Rashan, thank you for having us today. Well,
- 10:07Speaker 1: um the show. I was fortunate to help launch the
- 10:12Speaker 1: show when it first came out. I feel good, like
- 10:15Speaker 1: you know, I have a little influence out there in
- 10:17Speaker 1: the media. I'm taking some frit Yes you do, Yes
- 10:20Speaker 1: you do. I'm getting And you know, seriously, those you've
- 10:25Speaker 1: always been in our corner. You've all you've been one
- 10:27Speaker 1: of those, one of those people along the way in
- 10:29Speaker 1: your journey writing. And I've been at this a long
- 10:31Speaker 1: time before we were married and being a couple, and
- 10:34Speaker 1: there's certain people who are just there for you to
- 10:36Speaker 1: support you, and you know you you have to really
- 10:39Speaker 1: acknowledge that. So I loved what you were saying about Rodney.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It was very nice. But now I wanted just to
- 10:43Speaker 1: say thank you to you, Rashwan, because you've been there
- 10:46Speaker 1: for us and many different times, for many different situations
- 10:50Speaker 1: where we could count on you and you came through
- 10:53Speaker 1: for us. So thank you so much. And yeah, so
- 10:56Speaker 1: when you first launched to help launch the show, it
- 10:59Speaker 1: was on a different net work on under a different name.
- 11:02Speaker 1: We were on the own network. A lot of people
- 11:03Speaker 1: don't know that are a lot of people are just
- 11:05Speaker 1: discovering that we were on the own network gonna show
- 11:08Speaker 1: up for Pete's Fake um be. After two seasons, the
- 11:12Speaker 1: own network decided to let us go and Hallmark I
- 11:15Speaker 1: want to pick us up as free agents and we've
- 11:17Speaker 1: been off and running ever since. We've changed the name
- 11:19Speaker 1: to Meet the Pete the same family, different network, and uh,
- 11:23Speaker 1: really loving it. I think probably the biggest differences the
- 11:26Speaker 1: Hallmark Hallmark Channel really wanted to embrace the philanthropic side
- 11:29Speaker 1: of the family and Holly Rod Foundation. They've been unbelievably
- 11:32Speaker 1: supportive of our mission. So comes on Sunday nights at
- 11:36Speaker 1: nine eight Central and we're really enjoying it. Well, she
- 11:41Speaker 1: just just turned our own. She's like a faucet, just
- 11:43Speaker 1: turn o, she gonna go to She's like a faucet.
- 11:47Speaker 1: She went through the whole thing. So tell us about
- 11:50Speaker 1: the foundation. Well, howd Rod was started about the Moneys
- 11:55Speaker 1: years ago, and we are absolutely thrilled to be able
- 12:00Speaker 1: to turn some situations that have happened in our lives
- 12:03Speaker 1: into something prisitive for others. So many people will know
- 12:07Speaker 1: that my father, Matt Robinson, who was the riginal Gordon
- 12:10Speaker 1: on Cuesson Street, pre iconic TV guy, became ill with
- 12:14Speaker 1: Parkinson's disease when I was just a freshman in college.
- 12:17Speaker 1: It got worse when I met Rodney. He um said,
- 12:20Speaker 1: you know, your dad needs not only our help, but
- 12:23Speaker 1: other families need help too, So let's get in the
- 12:25Speaker 1: business with helping other people. Rodney was the one that
- 12:27Speaker 1: started Holly Lives Donation or forced you need to start it,
- 12:30Speaker 1: really and um, I'm always really thankful to HIMS for that.
- 12:34Speaker 1: And then later on when r J was born and
- 12:36Speaker 1: when he got the arts autism diagnosis, we knew we
- 12:38Speaker 1: had to expand the mission to autism. And so now
- 12:42Speaker 1: we're providing compassiony care for both families impacted by Parkinson's
- 12:45Speaker 1: and autism. And we're about to open our J's Place,
- 12:49Speaker 1: which is our first bricks and mortar flagships UM place
- 12:53Speaker 1: down in l A. And it's going to help young
- 12:55Speaker 1: people uh with autism on the spectrum get a job.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And so last night or the last episode that meets
- 13:04Speaker 1: the Peak. We had a job there. We got a
- 13:06Speaker 1: bunch of young people jobs like r J for Sean
- 13:08Speaker 1: You remember r J. He wasn't gonna be And now
- 13:13Speaker 1: r J is on the third season with the Los
- 13:15Speaker 1: Angeles Dodgers working in the clubhouse. So this is important
- 13:18Speaker 1: to show these stories. And I'm just glad at Hallmark
- 13:21Speaker 1: Channel a lot of us piece the platform. Well, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 1: it's really interested. Uh Riva Martin was a big advocate
- 13:27Speaker 1: of autism. We're working for Project TV projects right now,
- 13:33Speaker 1: developing for artist because of the fact that, uh my,
- 13:38Speaker 1: one of my little nephews, he has autism, invited the
- 13:42Speaker 1: family always down to my home in Atlanta because it's
- 13:46Speaker 1: such a quiet environment. He gets to swim all the
- 13:48Speaker 1: time he's and she always say he's a different child
- 13:51Speaker 1: when he comes to Yeah, that happens, you know. Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 1: So it's because I was I sat down with a
- 13:58Speaker 1: Riva who san has autism, and I would say, this
- 14:02Speaker 1: almost feels like um, especially in the African American community,
- 14:06Speaker 1: you hear more and more cases of autism, and it's
- 14:08Speaker 1: almost like autism is like, okay, what's this like a
- 14:12Speaker 1: little small Now it seems like it's such a talked
- 14:15Speaker 1: about um situation now that we need to understand the
- 14:21Speaker 1: connectivity and that that you can live a normal life.
- 14:24Speaker 1: And so so just to hear you talk about this,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I I just want to let you know that I
- 14:30Speaker 1: want to support you. If you guys taking donations, senment
- 14:33Speaker 1: in voice or some whatever, I'll send you a check today,
- 14:35Speaker 1: fed extra to you for that because I got to.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I got to. I got Yeah, you're all we and
- 14:42Speaker 1: you've been doing this for years for us. You've been
- 14:44Speaker 1: doing this for years for us and so supportive. And
- 14:46Speaker 1: let me just add in the Arriva is one of
- 14:48Speaker 1: our honors at Design Care this year. So if you
- 14:50Speaker 1: can come on out to l A for our event,
- 14:52Speaker 1: we're gonna be honoring her what you've got known her
- 14:54Speaker 1: years And um, you know you're right, you don't you
- 14:57Speaker 1: didn't You can hear about autism or life. And if
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't mind, if you don't mind, I'm a toot
- 15:03Speaker 1: my own more in a little bit conversation. Don't you're
- 15:11Speaker 1: too you know what I like going out with you.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I was only gonna say that one of the reasons
- 15:20Speaker 1: why we wanted to be on people asking all the time,
- 15:22Speaker 1: why do you want to be on a reality program. Like.
- 15:25Speaker 1: One of the reasons why I wanted to do this
- 15:27Speaker 1: is because we need more awareness. You never see people
- 15:31Speaker 1: characters with autism on television anywhere. We had rain Man
- 15:35Speaker 1: for thirty five forty years. That's all we ever saw.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And now you've got The Good Doctor and he's got
- 15:40Speaker 1: another show called a Typical on Netflix. But I wanted
- 15:43Speaker 1: to show an Askan American young man and a family
- 15:46Speaker 1: rallying around him. Uh and what that looked like. So um,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I do think people are talking about it more a
- 15:51Speaker 1: lot because we were able to share our stories about
- 15:54Speaker 1: fifteen years ago. Yeah, yeah, and I can, I can.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I just add to Rajan. I mean you mentioned in
- 16:00Speaker 1: the African American community, and I think that was one
- 16:02Speaker 1: of the biggest reasons why we we took our story
- 16:06Speaker 1: and went public because it was so vital for us
- 16:10Speaker 1: with our son our day to get him early diagnosed
- 16:13Speaker 1: and and and then be able to get him the
- 16:15Speaker 1: help that he needed. And I think sometimes it's still
- 16:18Speaker 1: a stigma in the black community of you know, not
- 16:23Speaker 1: wanting to admit or not wanting to accept um the
- 16:27Speaker 1: fact that there may be something going on and and
- 16:30Speaker 1: and then let's go check it out. Uh. And then
- 16:33Speaker 1: sometimes the kids are nine, ten, eleven, twelve years old
- 16:36Speaker 1: and sometimes even older than that before our family is
- 16:39Speaker 1: willing to go get a true diagnosis. So that is
- 16:42Speaker 1: that is a big reason why we're out too, um
- 16:46Speaker 1: is because we see the success that early diagnosis there
- 16:49Speaker 1: for our j and we want to share that with
- 16:50Speaker 1: other families. And I think that's important and I think
- 16:53Speaker 1: that's important that we we talk comfortably about it because see,
- 16:58Speaker 1: when you when you think there's an issue, there's a problem,
- 17:01Speaker 1: then then people either have a shame tie to it,
- 17:04Speaker 1: and then who loses the child? And sometimes the family loses,
- 17:08Speaker 1: The family loses, and so so that's why it's important
- 17:12Speaker 1: to support and and to be able to communicate. And
- 17:15Speaker 1: that's why I always be there for both of you.
- 17:18Speaker 1: And I just was fortunate the day to be able
