- 1:09Speaker 1: He's straight out of Beverly Hills today Todd T. J.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Johnson had sorry about that. Good morning, Rashan. How you doing,
- 1:20Speaker 1: my friend? Uh l A, that's when some people doing
- 1:23Speaker 1: the pandemic it's goned to be pandemic, uh hot, pandemic
- 1:27Speaker 1: territory out there. How is living in Los Angeles or
- 1:30Speaker 1: being in Los Angeles which is a part of Beverly
- 1:33Speaker 1: Hills being right now? And it's it's great. I've you know,
- 1:38Speaker 1: I've uh, you know, it's funny you say from Beverly
- 1:40Speaker 1: he knows, and that sounds sounds funny. Introduced me that
- 1:44Speaker 1: way because I'm from South Carolina and Columbia Casey, South Carolina,
- 1:49Speaker 1: low country. That's right, that's right, pokemon, you know. And
- 1:53Speaker 1: uh and so uh and uh and and I've made
- 1:57Speaker 1: my most of my money. And while I was in Washington, DC,
- 2:00Speaker 1: but man, during this pandemic, I decided to come out
- 2:03Speaker 1: to l A and a lot of time out here
- 2:06Speaker 1: in Beverly Hills. And and you know, have a beautiful
- 2:09Speaker 1: place out here, and uh my team works from this place,
- 2:12Speaker 1: so we're able to quarantine with a group of people
- 2:17Speaker 1: I love, like am productive with and so it's made
- 2:21Speaker 1: it a lot more fun. And you know, I'm really
- 2:23Speaker 1: into the car culture, love cars, so it's a it's
- 2:27Speaker 1: a great place to be because you can't get COVID
- 2:29Speaker 1: and you know, driving your cars around. Well, I'm gonna
- 2:32Speaker 1: tell you this, man, I've lived in Los Angeles fifteen years.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I always tell people you can stand on the carner
- 2:39Speaker 1: of Doheny and Wilsha and see every popular car in
- 2:43Speaker 1: the world passed that street light within an hour. So
- 2:49Speaker 1: if you're a car junkie or car foodie or a
- 2:52Speaker 1: car guy who just wants to eat up some great
- 2:54Speaker 1: cars and look at them. Beverly Hills, California, my friend,
- 2:57Speaker 1: it's the place to be because they got the cars. Man,
- 2:59Speaker 1: they got car t J. Absolutely absolutely they do. So
- 3:04Speaker 1: tell us a little bit going uh no, no, we
- 3:08Speaker 1: know you. But you said you're about to go going
- 3:10Speaker 1: you just going somewhere from completely. I was just I
- 3:13Speaker 1: was just no, no, I was just um, I was
- 3:15Speaker 1: just jumping down on what you said. No need to
- 3:17Speaker 1: do that, but yes we can just move forward. But
- 3:20Speaker 1: not no problem. Tell us about your brain, right quick, TJ.
- 3:22Speaker 1: From your words before I get in detail. You know,
- 3:25Speaker 1: I've got my research, but I al would like people
- 3:27Speaker 1: to tell their story a little bit and let's, uh,
- 3:29Speaker 1: let's break it down and build it up and uh
- 3:31Speaker 1: and let everybody know the journey they got you here
- 3:34Speaker 1: to this interview. No, I appreciate that. So here's the deal.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'm up again. I'm from like Casey, South Carolina. Some
- 3:43Speaker 1: of the guys man that's listening to this interview, they'll
- 3:45Speaker 1: know when I say Pokemon, South Carolina. There's a little
- 3:48Speaker 1: area in Casey, South Carolina. I grew up on a
- 3:51Speaker 1: short bus. I grew up stuttering so badly that you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: people made fun of me. And I was on the
- 3:57Speaker 1: short bus, so you know, the teachers and stuff didn't
- 4:00Speaker 1: think I was that smart, right, So I was on
- 4:03Speaker 1: this spot and it took a long time for me
- 4:05Speaker 1: to figure out that I just had a speech impediment
- 4:08Speaker 1: and it wasn't that that I wasn't smart. So I
- 4:11Speaker 1: had to work really hard and and grew up to
- 4:14Speaker 1: like a teenage bomb and you know, poor and all
- 4:17Speaker 1: that sort of stuff where man, I didn't have any
- 4:21Speaker 1: bide that was mentoring or sharing knowledge specifically of how
- 4:25Speaker 1: to um achieve financial success, how to be an entrepreneur,
- 4:29Speaker 1: how to build a business, how to think about things.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So my brand is about taking all the years of
- 4:36Speaker 1: experience that I've had and and a lot of different
- 4:39Speaker 1: ventures and helping other people do startups. How do you
- 4:44Speaker 1: take your business? Uh, take that skill, start your business
- 4:48Speaker 1: and start making money and scaling it so that you
- 4:51Speaker 1: can build financial freedom and have a business that you're
- 4:55Speaker 1: still proud of. You feel successful because you own it
- 4:58Speaker 1: and something for that, you know, other people to look
- 5:01Speaker 1: at you. So, man, this guy's went okay and I'm
- 5:04Speaker 1: proud of. So that's what my friends about. You know.
- 5:09Speaker 1: You know, I'm very familiar with Columbia South Carolina, Charleston,
- 5:12Speaker 1: that whole run uh syndicated radio with Steve Harvey for
- 5:16Speaker 1: sixteen years and when our first market was Columbia South
- 5:19Speaker 1: Carolina and so so I played with that many times,
- 5:22Speaker 1: went down and performed in the town town hall down there,
- 5:26Speaker 1: uh center to seats about three thousands. So I'm very
- 5:29Speaker 1: familiar with Columbia South Carolina and uh great people, great food.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Let's go and put that out there and the great Atmisphere.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So how did you get out of Columbia South Carolina area? Now?
- 5:39Speaker 1: You know, you know, that is an extreme now Todd
- 5:42Speaker 1: Beverly Hills, California and Columbia, South Carolina. Now I know
- 5:46Speaker 1: because I came from fire Forth, which is a which
- 5:48Speaker 1: is the inner city. Six nisters, two brothers, to bedroom,
- 5:51Speaker 1: shotgun house. Father was truck driver. Mom graduated from high school,
- 5:56Speaker 1: didn't pursue college. So I understand an atmosphere that doesn't
- 6:01Speaker 1: uh play well to opportunity. But opportunity does present itself,
- 6:05Speaker 1: and you were able to take it to take advantage of.
- 6:07Speaker 1: You told us about the short bus. You talked us
- 6:09Speaker 1: about the study. How did the evolution come off? Todd?
- 6:12Speaker 1: T J. Johnson, and man, you know? So for me,
- 6:18Speaker 1: I was always uh uh, someone that wanted more than
- 6:22Speaker 1: what my environment had, right, I saw in my environment.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I wasn't happy in my environment. I wasn't satisfied with
- 6:31Speaker 1: my environment. And I think a lot of people are
- 6:33Speaker 1: that way. But I think the difference for people that
- 6:36Speaker 1: leave their environment is that they decide that there's something
- 6:39Speaker 1: more somewhere else, there's something more in a different lifestyle,
- 6:43Speaker 1: even though they haven't experienced at first hand, they haven't
- 6:47Speaker 1: seen it. And so for me, I decided that I
- 6:51Speaker 1: just wanted something different and uh, at a very young age,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and again not knowing what that looks like, you don't know,
- 7:00Speaker 1: not knowing where that would be. Um. I played basketball
- 7:03Speaker 1: in high school and I thought basketball would get me
- 7:06Speaker 1: through college. And I had a very bad car accident
- 7:09Speaker 1: when I was between my senior and junior year of
- 7:14Speaker 1: high school, and I had anesia and had problems with
- 7:19Speaker 1: my balance and had to be taught my class schedule
- 7:21Speaker 1: all over again, my being the first Uh, you know,
- 7:25Speaker 1: there's people I didn't recognize. Ever. Again, a lot of
- 7:28Speaker 1: the stuff came back, but some stuff never came back.
- 7:32Speaker 1: But what what remains said fast was the fact that
- 7:36Speaker 1: that I wanted more, but I couldn't use basketball to
- 7:40Speaker 1: get me out of my situation. So I figured I'd
- 7:45Speaker 1: go off to college and and uh, you know, can
- 7:47Speaker 1: I just be transparent with you here Ray making conversations?
- 7:51Speaker 1: Please do so, man, I'll tell you what you know.
- 7:54Speaker 1: As visited a couple of colleges. I think I went
- 7:57Speaker 1: to William and Mary College and I went to have
- 8:00Speaker 1: to you and to visit and when I went to
- 8:02Speaker 1: Hampton You, I saw so many beautiful sisters that Hampton You.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I was like, oh my god, if I go to
- 8:08Speaker 1: the school. There's no way I'm gonna get out of college.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'm just not gonna get out of Coupe. I'm gonna
- 8:13Speaker 1: be get so distracted and it ain't gonna happen. So
- 8:16Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, I could not go
- 8:17Speaker 1: to Hampton You because I could see myself I had
- 8:20Speaker 1: I would always created this vision for my life. Right.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So when I visited hap Fro you thinking, wait a minute,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I'm not you know, I don't. I don't have everything
- 8:29Speaker 1: together around basketball. So if I'm struggling, I'm gonna be
- 8:33Speaker 1: driving a little I don't know. I have to buy
- 8:35Speaker 1: uh six hundred dollar car, and I gonna have to
- 8:38Speaker 1: work like at my McDonald's and try to go to
- 8:41Speaker 1: college and try not to be distracted by all the
- 8:43Speaker 1: pretty girls. I knew that wasn't gonna work. I didn't
- 8:46Speaker 1: think that I was gonna be successful in that situation.
- 8:49Speaker 1: So I ended up going in the military. And I
- 8:51Speaker 1: went in the military when I was seventeen years old,
- 8:54Speaker 1: and that was the thing that got me away from home.
- 8:57Speaker 1: But what I knew is I had to leave Pokemon Casey,
- 9:02Speaker 1: South Carolina. And if I left Pokemo Casey, South Carolina,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I knew there was gonna be more opportunity outside of
- 9:09Speaker 1: the area then there was inside, So I was willing
- 9:12Speaker 1: to go find something different. I'm gonna can be transparent
- 9:16Speaker 1: with you now, let me just tell your story. But
- 9:19Speaker 1: I graduated from the University Houston. Uh I when I
- 9:23Speaker 1: fifteen years old, I had UH My father was a
- 9:26Speaker 1: truck driver. My first job, he sent me to UH
- 9:29Speaker 1: this truck company and UH I was unloading boxes. So
- 9:32Speaker 1: my mentors were my early mentors of guys who unloaded
- 9:36Speaker 1: boxes and drove forklifts. So despite the high grades, when
- 9:40Speaker 1: I got graduated from high school, I wanted to be
- 9:42Speaker 1: a forklift driver. That's what I wanted to be. And
- 9:44Speaker 1: guess when I graduate high school, I became a forklift driver.
- 9:47Speaker 1: It was happy and then UH then, fortunately for me,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I didn't know what I was doing and I dropped
- 9:54Speaker 1: the box on a young man's hand, broken and they
- 9:56Speaker 1: fired me. And so I went over the University of
- 9:59Speaker 1: Houston where I eventual graduated. And when I eventually attended,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and I saw those same beautiful women that you saw
- 10:05Speaker 1: at the Universe, it was wensday noon time, neon time,
- 10:08Speaker 1: not now out that inspired me dj to enroll in
- 10:14Speaker 1: college that that inspired that that visit to that that
- 10:21Speaker 1: new time on the Wednesday at do you See that's
- 10:24Speaker 1: what they called the University center called it. Do you
- 10:25Speaker 1: see got me enrolled at the University Houston and made
- 10:28Speaker 1: me get my math degree. So we all had levels
- 10:31Speaker 1: of inspiration. So I was not I was not taking
- 10:35Speaker 1: aback by when I saw I was just trying to
- 10:37Speaker 1: see how I can get closer. Uh. And that's how
- 10:44Speaker 1: life is for for for us. You know, we have
- 10:46Speaker 1: these different ventures that we we encounter and they always
- 10:49Speaker 1: affect us different ways. And when I hear your story,
- 10:52Speaker 1: that's why I want to hear the story, because the
- 10:53Speaker 1: story feeds different information when it's when it's uh, when
- 10:57Speaker 1: it's presented to different people, and when you how we
- 11:00Speaker 1: achieved those different levels of success is what builds us
- 11:04Speaker 1: out and makes us successful overall and allows our dreams
- 11:07Speaker 1: to come true. Because like you, I am a dreamer too.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I just I would look at TV T J and
- 11:12Speaker 1: I'll go, wow, could I do that? And I would
- 11:17Speaker 1: tell you this, man, honest, letting I tell people, I
- 11:19Speaker 1: pretty much have done most of the things I've dreamed
- 11:23Speaker 1: of in my life as a kid, and and and
- 11:28Speaker 1: I never when people here that they go, who do
- 11:29Speaker 1: you mean? I said, well, you know, when I saw it,
- 11:32Speaker 1: I didn't know how I was going to get there,
- 11:34Speaker 1: But I knew hard work was involved. I knew not
- 11:37Speaker 1: sitting on the sofa was not an option t J.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I knew that I had to be able to have
- 11:42Speaker 1: people around me, they believed in me, and all those
- 11:46Speaker 1: things that played this self out with me ever since
- 11:48Speaker 1: I've been eighteen years old. What my problem was I
- 11:51Speaker 1: didn't respect the process. In other words, I didn't accept
- 11:55Speaker 1: the responsibility that God gives us these gifts and when
- 11:58Speaker 1: they when these things start, until you don't don't trivialize it,
- 12:02Speaker 1: don't realize to realize that it's happening because you have
- 12:05Speaker 1: a unique talent. And that's and once I accepted the
- 12:08Speaker 1: fact that I have a unique I had a unique talent,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and these things are happening because of what I can
- 12:13Speaker 1: accomplish and who I am, this success came my way
- 12:16Speaker 1: at a very fast rate, and I understood the pattern
- 12:19Speaker 1: that I had to maintain, the consistency I had to
- 12:22Speaker 1: maintain to be successful. And when I did my research
- 12:25Speaker 1: on you, you your life tells a very similar story.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Correct yeah, for sure, for sure, for sure, I think.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But you know, and you talking to me just now
- 12:38Speaker 1: and telling me a little bit more about your story.
- 12:41Speaker 1: One of the things that jumped out of me is
- 12:43Speaker 1: just being self aware. You know, you saw those women
- 12:46Speaker 1: you were like, look, I gotta get blows when I
- 12:50Speaker 1: told I'm too weak, I gotta move away just when
- 12:57Speaker 1: you you know, when you were like, um, you said, look, uh,
- 13:02Speaker 1: chief my thing. But now I want to do something different.
- 13:05Speaker 1: For me, I knew like going in the military, right
- 13:10Speaker 1: was the way to being a different place, to see
- 13:12Speaker 1: some different things. And and you know, I started out
- 13:15Speaker 1: like doing a job that was like like cheap punch operator.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I was like typing in stuff right that that you know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: I thought was uh, just typing in like on these
- 13:26Speaker 1: little cheap punch cards. And then I had the innovator.
- 13:29Speaker 1: But but the other thing that I thought about when
- 13:32Speaker 1: you were talking was was you said, you watch TV
- 13:37Speaker 1: and you'd be inspired and you would do different things,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and you saw that you sort of want to emulate
- 13:43Speaker 1: some of the success. For me, when I saw TV,
- 13:47Speaker 1: what I saw is very successful people that and I
- 13:52Speaker 1: was I was actually someone that wouldn't watch TV because
- 13:56Speaker 1: I would see this success, and I would say, I'm
- 13:59Speaker 1: gonna spend already menace an hour or two hours watching
- 14:04Speaker 1: rich people when I'm poor. And so I was like,
- 14:08Speaker 1: you know what, I'm not gonna do that. I'm not
- 14:09Speaker 1: gonna watch rich people when I'm poor. I'm gonna invest
- 14:13Speaker 1: in myself and do some other things so that I
- 14:16Speaker 1: can not be poor. Right, So to your point is
- 14:20Speaker 1: that the way we deal with these things are are different, right, right.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Way we deal with each circumstances are different. The way
- 14:27Speaker 1: it impacts us are different. And so the two things
- 14:29Speaker 1: in terms of how you dealt with um the inspiration
- 14:35Speaker 1: you saw in the University of Houston and and the
- 14:37Speaker 1: way you dealt with the inspiration you saw in Houston
- 14:41Speaker 1: was very different than the way I dealt with television
- 14:43Speaker 1: and the way I saw the inspiration in h Hampton University.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So you're absolutely right, my brother, in terms of how
- 14:51Speaker 1: it impacts us differently and how we have to apply
- 14:53Speaker 1: to our own life differently. Absolutely, And that's a really
- 14:56Speaker 1: really deep thing to admit because of what I tried
- 14:58Speaker 1: not to do is you know, when you work around talent,
- 15:01Speaker 1: and I consider your talent, I want to hear your
- 15:03Speaker 1: story because I, because I I, we're always annoyed me
- 15:07Speaker 1: and the entertainment business especially, we have super talented people
- 15:10Speaker 1: like just throw our name, like a Martin Lawrence or
- 15:13Speaker 1: Dave Chappelle. Just because they have the title of comedian
- 15:16Speaker 1: don't mean they do the same things. And so sometimes
- 15:19Speaker 1: people try to put them in that same lane or
- 15:21Speaker 1: they're funny, they can do this script maybe not, maybe
- 15:23Speaker 1: not because they approached their thought process of being funny
- 15:28Speaker 1: is different, and so the same thing with you, I
- 15:31Speaker 1: thought press would be I thought process of being successful
- 15:34Speaker 1: is different, and we have to be respected along that
- 15:37Speaker 1: line and realize that our journey to get to the
- 15:40Speaker 1: findesh line. You may be the tortos, I may be
- 15:43Speaker 1: the hair, but it doesn't matter because we're gonna be
- 15:46Speaker 1: successful because we approached with the mindset of pattern of
- 15:50Speaker 1: gold or being goal or in it. We're planned, driven
- 15:53Speaker 1: people and we're not just dreamers. That is what It's
- 15:56Speaker 1: important that I wanted people to take away from your
- 15:59Speaker 1: brand as well, right t J. Yeah, absolutely, and and
- 16:03Speaker 1: and so you're you're right. The the what you do
- 16:07Speaker 1: when you when you're dealing with success or anything that
- 16:10Speaker 1: you study was common. Right. Everybody's gonna have a unique story,
- 16:14Speaker 1: a unique way, inspired differently, motivated differently. But the things
- 16:18Speaker 1: that's common are you know, focus, it's you know, setting goals,
- 16:24Speaker 1: achieving those goals, having a high you know, a high
- 16:28Speaker 1: vision for your life. And I think some people suffer
- 16:31Speaker 1: from not creating a big enough vision for their life.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And I think most of us do, no matter where
- 16:37Speaker 1: we are, uh in terms of our level of success.
- 16:40Speaker 1: A lot of times I look at myself to say, man,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I could have done a lot more if I was
- 16:45Speaker 1: completed hard, if my vision would have been grander, you know,
- 16:49Speaker 1: even though people might look at me and say, hey, man,
- 16:51Speaker 1: you created some su Yeah, but you know I could
- 16:54Speaker 1: have done there's a lot faster. I could have done
- 16:56Speaker 1: this a lot different if I wasn't scared ear year,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I wasn't having a bigger vision, you know. I I wow,
- 17:07Speaker 1: you know that statement you just said. I thought about
- 17:10Speaker 1: that so many times. But I often think about it
- 17:12Speaker 1: because of the fact that was already And that's why
- 17:15Speaker 1: I go back to the fact that I said earlier
- 17:17Speaker 1: in our conversation. Sometimes you don't understand who you are.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Sometimes you don't really respect what you can do, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: so I don't so much. Call it fierce growth, and
- 17:27Speaker 1: so we all grow. That's why I admire when you know,
- 17:30Speaker 1: President Barack Obama ran for presidency of the United States
- 17:34Speaker 1: and he won, but he had to plan on that
- 17:37Speaker 1: when he was in his teens, because he had to
- 17:39Speaker 1: do certain things that they couldn't back and go back
- 17:42Speaker 1: and find. And so people visionaries who get it early.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I always always like, you know, I always get excited
- 17:49Speaker 1: because Wow, they figured it out so young, and that's amazing.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Where I basically accepted who I was in my faulties
- 17:57Speaker 1: despite all the success I had, t J. I, I
- 18:01Speaker 1: didn't really buy into Rashad McDonald until I was in
- 18:04Speaker 1: my authorities. And when I bought in, boar that that wall,
- 18:08Speaker 1: that that door could not stay closed when I bought in.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And so so I'm speaking to Todd t J. Nick Mill,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I just call him t J. Todd Johnson. Here's a
- 18:17Speaker 1: program called in High Pursuit. It helps entrepreneurs accelerate the
- 18:20Speaker 1: growth of their ventures. Tell us about that, Todd. Yeah,
- 18:25Speaker 1: So you know, I have. What I do is I
- 18:28Speaker 1: coach people that are building their businesses, trying to scale
- 18:32Speaker 1: their business, trying to grow their business. Right and uh
- 18:35Speaker 1: a lot of people. Uh, they'll see either getting ready
- 18:40Speaker 1: to start, never starting, waiting waiting for things to be
- 18:43Speaker 1: perfect before they get going, waiting for things to be
- 18:46Speaker 1: perfect before they make an offer to the world. And
- 18:49Speaker 1: you know that's a that's a big problem, right, it's
- 18:51Speaker 1: a big are A lot of other folks they got
- 18:54Speaker 1: their business is going, but they really created sort of
- 18:57Speaker 1: uh uh eliminates hand and they don't know it means
- 19:01Speaker 1: that they have to go in and open the store
- 19:04Speaker 1: every day, be their selling stuff. And if they're not,
- 19:07Speaker 1: they're not gonna make any money. And when they stop
- 19:09Speaker 1: doing it, the money stops doing. So I want to
- 19:12Speaker 1: make sure that people learn how to work on their
- 19:16Speaker 1: business and not just in their business right, so that
- 19:18Speaker 1: they can build financial success for the long haul, that
- 19:22Speaker 1: they can feel they can they can make money while
- 19:26Speaker 1: they sleep, so that they can take their spare equity
- 19:29Speaker 1: and their ingenuity and creativity to create something that's going
- 19:34Speaker 1: to allow them to live the way they want. Because
- 19:37Speaker 1: sometimes people want to build a business and they think,
- 19:40Speaker 1: because I have this business i'm living, I'm gonna build
- 19:43Speaker 1: this lifestyle the we want. Not necessarily, you just don't
- 19:46Speaker 1: eliminated sing. So when they help people scale their business
- 19:49Speaker 1: and so my my, uh, what I do is I
- 19:53Speaker 1: have something called the Success Club. And in the Success
- 19:56Speaker 1: Club is where I meet with folks every couple of weeks,
- 20:00Speaker 1: you know, face to face as a group, and we
- 20:03Speaker 1: have another terry. Terry then helping people with some of
- 20:06Speaker 1: the technical aspects of marketing. And uh, I'm helping with
- 20:11Speaker 1: the strategy stuff and and obviously the technical stuff as well,
- 20:15Speaker 1: you know, talking through stuff and helping people solve their
- 20:17Speaker 1: problems so that they can grow their businesses and scale
- 20:20Speaker 1: it and so and and it's unique because getting access
- 20:23Speaker 1: to people that have built businesses, you know, in different industries.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I mean I've had a uh commercial construction business that
- 20:31Speaker 1: I built from scratch, and all the businesses that I've built,
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'm not gone out and gotten people's money in and
- 20:36Speaker 1: and and and build something. I've built businesses that's been
- 20:39Speaker 1: very successful, and I build businesses that spailled and all
- 20:43Speaker 1: of that experience helps me help other people move things
- 20:46Speaker 1: along a lot faster. So it's called a success club.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And when when you have the word success and and
- 20:54Speaker 1: that that that means a lot to a lot of
- 20:56Speaker 1: different people. You know, there are people who eat who
- 20:59Speaker 1: we need a lot of food that's successful for them
- 21:01Speaker 1: and a buffet, you know. And so you know, athletes,
- 21:05Speaker 1: it could be a forty yard time, you know, lifting weights,
- 21:08Speaker 1: it could be a dunk. Uh. What is your definition
- 21:12Speaker 1: of success in the entrepreneurial or the business or the
- 21:15Speaker 1: business space when you're talking to individuals who are trying
- 21:17Speaker 1: to get a vision for success. Yeah, So there's levels
- 21:23Speaker 1: to it, right in terms of success that you've already mentioned.
- 21:26Speaker 1: And so I think a sort of a quick, sort
- 21:29Speaker 1: of uh version of that for me is that, you know,
- 21:32Speaker 1: having building enough financial freedom where you may have ability
- 21:36Speaker 1: to make choices for your life and your family that
- 21:38Speaker 1: prioritizes your happiness and lifestyle over simply surviving. The degree
- 21:47Speaker 1: that you have the ability to do that, like a
- 21:49Speaker 1: lot of people have to get up and do things
- 21:52Speaker 1: just because they have to do it to pay the
- 21:54Speaker 1: bills and take care of family. Right, So, so because
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know, and so to the degree that you go,
- 22:00Speaker 1: you know what, I can make decisions. I can take
- 22:03Speaker 1: this job, I can move to this location, and and
- 22:06Speaker 1: I have the type of freedom that allows me to
- 22:08Speaker 1: do what makes me happy and takes care of my family,
- 22:11Speaker 1: makes my family happy and as far as that over over,
- 22:17Speaker 1: you know, just simply surviving. Uh, to the degree that
- 22:21Speaker 1: I can do that, I'm successful. And so there's a
- 22:23Speaker 1: few levers when you look at that. There's the happiness level.
- 22:27Speaker 1: How happy am I doing what I do? And what
- 22:30Speaker 1: my life and and and what my life looks like?
- 22:33Speaker 1: How much of an impact am I'm making? You know,
- 22:35Speaker 1: I think that's important because we want to be able
- 22:38Speaker 1: to do that. The other one is how much abundance
- 22:41Speaker 1: do I have? You know, a lot of times people
- 22:42Speaker 1: want to think about success and want to take that
- 22:44Speaker 1: out of it, right, And I'm let no man put
- 22:46Speaker 1: abundance in it because abundance is an important thing and
- 22:49Speaker 1: it's something you know that that is, Uh, having an
- 22:54Speaker 1: abundance versus having lack's really important as well, right, And
- 22:58Speaker 1: so um um, I think those are some of the
- 23:03Speaker 1: levels that are important to move up the skill to
- 23:09Speaker 1: figure out what success is, at least for me and
- 23:12Speaker 1: from a business standpoint, in a business mindset, you know,
- 23:16Speaker 1: when I when I listened to you talk, and first
- 23:18Speaker 1: of all, thank you for calling the show money making
- 23:20Speaker 1: conversation and sharing your story and your inspiration. And I
- 23:24Speaker 1: I've had an amazing life when I look at the
- 23:28Speaker 1: ability to be able to you know, hanging hanging into
- 23:31Speaker 1: a conversation with a with a motivational coach, and you're
- 23:34Speaker 1: a success coach, and that's something I cannot do. That's
- 23:37Speaker 1: something I wouldn't pursue. That's just not my lane of
- 23:40Speaker 1: opportunity for me. And as far as important to say,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I may know your conversation tod that on me, I
- 23:46Speaker 1: can do what you do, Okay? What enables you to
- 23:50Speaker 1: do what you do in that lane of being a
- 23:53Speaker 1: success coach? And what what makes you different? What? What? What? What? What? When?
- 23:57Speaker 1: When when I look at you and I come to you,
- 24:00Speaker 1: and because you have people who come there for stress
- 24:03Speaker 1: coaches and they did athletes who are trying to overcome
- 24:05Speaker 1: depression a lot of times, and but success because a
- 24:08Speaker 1: lot of people fail at it. They fell in life
- 24:11Speaker 1: and they fell in business. How do you how do
- 24:13Speaker 1: you affect people like that and get them going down
- 24:16Speaker 1: the right path? Yeah, So a couple of things. I
- 24:22Speaker 1: focus on the fund of medals. Just like you know,
- 24:24Speaker 1: if you played basketball, you do anything, well, you know
- 24:28Speaker 1: the thing that you have to do at the fund ofmentals. Now,
- 24:30Speaker 1: when you sit there and you tell somebody, here's what
- 24:32Speaker 1: it takes to be successful. They go, wait, where's the
- 24:36Speaker 1: magic where you know? You know? You know no, and
- 24:41Speaker 1: the secrets are? You know. You gotta focus, you gotta
- 24:43Speaker 1: you gotta have a clear vision for your life. You
- 24:46Speaker 1: have to focus. You have to have faith that you
- 24:48Speaker 1: can do this thing beyond measure. You know, you can
- 24:52Speaker 1: get this thing done. I was talking to someone, yes
- 24:54Speaker 1: the other day and uh, you're going through a coaching session,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and I was talking of out how expensive it was
- 25:01Speaker 1: to do what he did and how much uh you
- 25:03Speaker 1: know money he was making, but how little went to
- 25:06Speaker 1: the bottom line. And I said, well, you know, let's
- 25:09Speaker 1: we say, now, let's look at this differently. How can
- 25:11Speaker 1: we do this without spending amount of money. There's no
- 25:14Speaker 1: way to do it. There's no way to do it. Absolutely,
- 25:18Speaker 1: you can't because other people are doing it. Right. So
- 25:20Speaker 1: we talked about it and said, I said, bro, how
- 25:23Speaker 1: about it. How about if you're you know, how about it.
- 25:25Speaker 1: There's a bass drop us, there's some your wife was
- 25:29Speaker 1: kidnapped and you had to gether out of this situation.
- 25:33Speaker 1: The way you can get it out of the situation
- 25:35Speaker 1: to double your business and in sixty days, how would
- 25:39Speaker 1: you do it? What would you do? What changes would
- 25:42Speaker 1: you make? You have to do this, you have no choice.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Life and death depends on it, right, And so sometimes
- 25:48Speaker 1: when we frame things differently, we can then start to
- 25:54Speaker 1: different Yeah, they do this all the time because they
- 25:57Speaker 1: have they have you know, they have to respond and
- 26:00Speaker 1: pressure situations. Our business people respond to pressure situation where
- 26:05Speaker 1: the business is gonna God, U gonna fail. It's covid.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Oh man, I gotta do something different otherwise I'm gonna fail.
- 26:11Speaker 1: But sometimes we have to create the pressure so that
- 26:15Speaker 1: we can come up with the answers that we need
- 26:18Speaker 1: to grow our stuff. But the thing that makes me
- 26:20Speaker 1: different and the things that allows me to to help
- 26:23Speaker 1: people in a different way, is that why I've been
- 26:25Speaker 1: in a lot of different businesses. All of them have
- 26:27Speaker 1: been startups. And because they've been start ups, and it's
- 26:30Speaker 1: been in construction businesses, you know, on the hotel and
- 26:34Speaker 1: restaurant and UH mobile detail and car wash business and
- 26:38Speaker 1: and obviously detect services and stuff UM and and and
- 26:42Speaker 1: retail and online business. So I've done a lot of
- 26:44Speaker 1: different things, and not all of those things have been successful.
- 26:47Speaker 1: But I can leverage all of that experience to help
- 26:51Speaker 1: other people, and I understand what it needs to kind
- 26:55Speaker 1: of half leaving yourself sometimes or not have other people
- 26:59Speaker 1: believe in yourself and to be able to break something
- 27:01Speaker 1: down into the small parts and get people to do
- 27:03Speaker 1: a few things. One that's creative vision for themselves, that
- 27:07Speaker 1: that they can believe that, absolutely believe that, and sometimes
- 27:11Speaker 1: those are baby steps and then move them along the
- 27:14Speaker 1: path and then to help them do uh, focus and
- 27:17Speaker 1: eliminate all that other things. A lot of times, especially
- 27:21Speaker 1: as black people, man, we always want to be mobiles.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Nobody wants to be a millionaire or everybody wants a
- 27:26Speaker 1: good billionaire. It's like, bro, how about we start with
- 27:28Speaker 1: you're making six figures first, and then we should move on,
- 27:34Speaker 1: you know, I want to we start there. And so
- 27:36Speaker 1: everybody wants to be a mobil before they get one
- 27:39Speaker 1: thing going. So people starting three or four different things, right,
- 27:42Speaker 1: So let's start with one and being successful there and
- 27:45Speaker 1: then and so helping people do that and put the
- 27:49Speaker 1: steps in place and having the constant contact with them
- 27:52Speaker 1: to there to say, okay, brother, you're on the right path. Okay, sister,
- 27:56Speaker 1: now that ain't working. I hear you, but that doesn't
- 27:58Speaker 1: make sense to me and keep will will go around
- 28:01Speaker 1: and circles on an idea that that makes sense to
- 28:03Speaker 1: anybody but themselves for a long time talk about this
- 28:07Speaker 1: idea and they can't execute on it because it doesn't
- 28:10Speaker 1: make sense, you know, to to anybody. A lot of
- 28:13Speaker 1: times people trying to sell people things they think they
- 28:16Speaker 1: need as opposed to things that people want right and
- 28:20Speaker 1: already know they need. Don't convince them that they need something.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Tell them stuff that they know they want and that
- 28:26Speaker 1: they need, you know. So So those are some of
- 28:29Speaker 1: the things, man, I know that that was all over
- 28:31Speaker 1: the place, But those are some of the things that
- 28:33Speaker 1: that that I do to help people move along and
- 28:36Speaker 1: stay focused and build their businesses. Awesome, ton, How can
- 28:40Speaker 1: we reach out to your? What social email? Uh? Website?
- 28:44Speaker 1: How can we reach you? How can we find you? Yeah?
- 28:47Speaker 1: On on social media it's uh t J Millionaire mentor
- 28:53Speaker 1: on Instagram, on Facebook, um even on on YouTube? And
- 28:58Speaker 1: uh for email it's Todd kildd at and hot pursuit
- 29:05Speaker 1: dot com. That's, uh, I don't know how you's and
- 29:11Speaker 1: is then Nancy and then hot dot com. That's that's
- 29:14Speaker 1: what I got on my paper small in Hot Pursuit
- 29:17Speaker 1: dot com. This is the website. I'll tell you what, Todd,
- 29:21Speaker 1: can you come back on my show? May I've enjoyed this.
- 29:24Speaker 1: You know. I love talking to you because we you know,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I'm from Houston, you're from South Carolina, where Texas and
- 29:30Speaker 1: Talth Carolina were both from the South. Now we both
- 29:32Speaker 1: have different journeys, but I love the story we tell
- 29:35Speaker 1: because it's very similar, and I approach it just different
- 29:39Speaker 1: decisions we made at different moments that we would ask
- 29:43Speaker 1: to make a decision, and that's what success is all about.
- 29:46Speaker 1: And I also love the fact that you made a
- 29:48Speaker 1: statement about that person who just coln't see a way
- 29:51Speaker 1: to get past the bottom line. This year, I brought
- 29:54Speaker 1: a young lady into my life, Angel Rich. She was
- 29:57Speaker 1: just working on my brand and she said, we you
- 30:00Speaker 1: need to have a YouTube channel for money making conversation.
- 30:02Speaker 1: That's what it's all there. I don't think that makes
- 30:04Speaker 1: any sense at all. She said, you you, you will
- 30:08Speaker 1: really excel at that and your brand will hit a
- 30:12Speaker 1: younger demo. And it was the same story. She just
- 30:16Speaker 1: had to tell it to me different where. I launched
- 30:18Speaker 1: it in February and I have to with thirty seven
- 30:20Speaker 1: thousand subscribers of YouTube and my age demo was eighteen
- 30:24Speaker 1: or forty four of them are in that age range,
- 30:28Speaker 1: so it made my my my age demo just went
- 30:31Speaker 1: way low. Six of my followers on the YouTube channel
- 30:35Speaker 1: or female. So when you made that statement, I found
- 30:38Speaker 1: it very relatable. Sometimes you have to talk to successful
- 30:42Speaker 1: people a different way to let them understand the opportunity.
- 30:46Speaker 1: It's possible. They just have to change the way they think.
- 30:50Speaker 1: That's all you do, and that's what you're doing, and
- 30:52Speaker 1: it makes you such an amazing success as a success coach.
- 30:56Speaker 1: And I just wanted to share that moment and say
- 30:58Speaker 1: I appreciate how you about what you do because it
- 31:01Speaker 1: happened to me and it made a difference in my life.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It made a difference in my brain and made a
- 31:05Speaker 1: difference in my income. I appreciate that. Man. That's awesome,
- 31:10Speaker 1: And let me say this to you. Thank you for
- 31:13Speaker 1: what you've done and what you do. People don't know
- 31:16Speaker 1: about people like you, and not enough people know about
- 31:20Speaker 1: people like you. Right my first name. More people should
- 31:23Speaker 1: know your first name. You know, especially people in terms
- 31:28Speaker 1: of you know you're you're the You're the rainmaker. He's
- 31:31Speaker 1: in the rain maker behind the brand, and people don't
- 31:34Speaker 1: know the strategy and the thought and nuance that goes
- 31:37Speaker 1: into that stuff. So I appreciate what you've done, and
- 31:40Speaker 1: you've done for a long time for for the seeds
- 31:43Speaker 1: of the world and other people. So I appreciate that, man,
- 31:50Speaker 1: And uh and uh. At some point, I'm gonna have
- 31:52Speaker 1: to get your your your restaurant lists for the different
- 31:57Speaker 1: areas of the country. You know your absolute it. Absolutely
- 32:01Speaker 1: we're gonna talk, man. Like I said, I gotta go
- 32:04Speaker 1: out in l A coming up because of doing some
- 32:07Speaker 1: productions out there, some television ideas and concepts are coming
- 32:10Speaker 1: out there, so I may be out there next month,
- 32:12Speaker 1: So I'll definitely connect with you, man while I'm out there,
- 32:14Speaker 1: just to talk. Man. Like I said, I just love
- 32:17Speaker 1: fascinating people. I find you'd be a very fascinating person,
- 32:20Speaker 1: a very articulate person. About what it means to be successful,
- 32:23Speaker 1: I've told people many times sometimes success is not defining dollars,
- 32:27Speaker 1: is what you can accomplish, and that's how I shop.
- 32:29Speaker 1: But people say, I said, I I define my success
- 32:32Speaker 1: when I go in the store. If I go in
- 32:34Speaker 1: there and said I want that, and I can pick
- 32:36Speaker 1: it up and I can walk out of the store
- 32:37Speaker 1: with it. Then guess what that's the success level that
- 32:39Speaker 1: I've achieved to be able to do that, not how
- 32:42Speaker 1: much it costs that I could actually go in there
- 32:44Speaker 1: and say I want that I want with several of
- 32:47Speaker 1: those shoes or that that Taylor shoot or that particular car,
- 32:51Speaker 1: that house. And so you don't define it whether it's
- 32:54Speaker 1: a million or five million, is defined on if you can,
- 32:57Speaker 1: if you can achieve it, and that's what you do
- 32:59Speaker 1: as a success coach, and keep doing what you're doing.
- 33:02Speaker 1: And you have a fan in me talk. Okay, thank you,
- 33:07Speaker 1: thank you so much for Sean and we talked to it. Okay,
- 33:10Speaker 1: you'll be safe out there, and Beverly Hills Man and
- 33:12Speaker 1: stay after and keep watching them cars because I might
- 33:14Speaker 1: be driving by and one open and the g T
- 33:17Speaker 1: and the g T. Alright, we'll be safe now. Thank
- 33:23Speaker 1: you for coming on the Money Making Conversation. If you
- 33:25Speaker 1: want to hear more Money Making Conversation interviews, please go
- 33:27Speaker 1: to money Making Conversation dot com. I am Roshan McDonald.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I am your host.
