- 0:00Welcome to Five Minute Bible in our journey through the New
- 0:02Testament. In each episode, we take just a
- 0:05few minutes to focus on one chapter of the New Testament,
- 0:08exploring the truths God is teaching us through His Word and
- 0:12expanding our view of who He is. Before you listen, make sure
- 0:16you've gone straight to the source, either by reading
- 0:19today's chapter of the Bible yourself or listening to today's
- 0:22read along episode in this podcast feed.
- 0:25If you haven't done that yet, feel free to pause and do that
- 0:27now. And when you're ready, let's
- 0:30dive into God's Word together. In Acts chapter 4 we find Peter
- 0:46and John being thrown in jail by the religious leaders after the
- 0:49disturbance that's been caused by their healing of the lame
- 0:51beggar. In Acts chapter 3, the religious
- 0:54leaders question them, saying in verse 7, by what power or in
- 0:57what name have you done this? And here's what follows in verse
- 1:008 and beyond. Then Peter, filled with the Holy
- 1:03Spirit, said to them, rulers and elders of the people, if we are
- 1:06on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how
- 1:09this man has been made, well, let it be known to all of you
- 1:12and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus
- 1:16Christ, the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from
- 1:19the dead, by this name, this man stands here before.
- 1:21You in good health? He is the stone which was
- 1:23rejected by you the builders, but which became the chief
- 1:27cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one
- 1:29else, for there is no other name under heaven that has been given
- 1:32among men by which we must be saved.
- 1:35Peter stands and delivers a clear proclamation of the gospel
- 1:38of Jesus. Man has placed him on trial, but
- 1:42God has opened the door for the gospel message to go out.
- 1:45The religious leaders were left without a reply.
- 1:48Notice what it is that strikes the religious leaders.
- 1:50The next verse says, Now as they observed the confidence of Peter
- 1:54and John and understood that they were uneducated and
- 1:57untrained men, they were amazed and began to recognize them as
- 2:01having been with Jesus. These religious leaders noticed
- 2:04the confidence, the boldness of Peter and John, but they also
- 2:07know that these are not educated men.
- 2:09These are not trained rabbis. These are fishermen.
- 2:12This is an amazing display for mere fishermen.
- 2:16But that's not all they notice. They began to recognize Peter
- 2:19and John as having been with Jesus.
- 2:21Unable to recognize the feeling of the Holy Spirit for what it
- 2:24is, the religious leaders can at least remember one thing.
- 2:27These men have been with Jesus. That's the difference.
- 2:31The power that pours forth from them, the confidence that they
- 2:34display even when they're imprisoned and put on trial.
- 2:37This is not from man, but from God.
- 2:40They have been in the presence of Jesus and have been changed.
- 2:44And here's the question for us, brothers and sisters.
- 2:47Have we been with Jesus? Is the presence of Christ what
- 2:51is empowering our life? Is the presence of Christ what
- 2:54is emboldening our witness? Peter and John spent time with
- 2:57the Master and were changed. Have we spent time with the
- 3:00Master and have we come away changed?
- 3:04Live in the reality of John 15, five.
- 3:07I am the vine, you are the branches.
- 3:10He who abides in me, and I in him, He bears much fruit, for
- 3:14apart from me you can do nothing.
