- 2:26Speaker 1: Lisa is my first time Lisa meeting you are welcome
- 2:28Speaker 1: to the family. All right now, Bobby, last time I
- 2:35Speaker 1: met you, man, we was in the circle of sisters. Um.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I walked by the table with my staff and I
- 2:41Speaker 1: saw this Bobby Q just hot sal This is that
- 2:44Speaker 1: Bobby Brown hot songs and went and see it's Bobby Brown.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Here is body Brown here? Then he was over there.
- 2:51Speaker 1: They had you on a raised platform and just a
- 2:55Speaker 1: huge crowd of people and you was doing I guess
- 2:58Speaker 1: an exhibit a demo and uh a demonstration and uh
- 3:04Speaker 1: I took the hot tos home because I'm telling you something.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm a Southern barbar Houston, Texas. I used it on
- 3:09Speaker 1: my chidlins. I'm just gonna go Southern on you, guys.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I put it on my chid lins and white rice. Okay,
- 3:14Speaker 1: uh fried chicken had to put it on my fried
- 3:17Speaker 1: chicken and so so put it on my eggs. And
- 3:21Speaker 1: I'm gonna just tell you I'm a fan. I'm a fan.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm a fan. I'm a fan. Okay, thank you so much. Um. Yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's been going really good. Um. We have the barbecue sauce,
- 3:33Speaker 1: we have the fried chicken mix. We have um, I'll
- 3:36Speaker 1: season things, the brown Um, I mean the Boston blend
- 3:40Speaker 1: and the everyday seasonings. Uh. We're just we're really just
- 3:46Speaker 1: trying to build the company into into a major major
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know. Um, thanky, Okay, let's talk about that. Let's
- 3:55Speaker 1: talk about that, because I went to the website and
- 3:59Speaker 1: and I can cook. You know, I'm not a Bobby
- 4:02Speaker 1: Brown cook, but I can cook. Okay, I don't have
- 4:05Speaker 1: my season and I don't have my sus Bobby bait,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but I can cook. At least I don't have that either.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. My wife thinks she my
- 4:13Speaker 1: wife thinks she can cook better than me. But that's
- 4:15Speaker 1: another story now in our house. Actually, Bobby, Bobby definitely
- 4:21Speaker 1: hands down can cook. Um. You know, I got some
- 4:25Speaker 1: a few traits up your sleep now. I'll tell you
- 4:29Speaker 1: that this this brand was developed off of Bobby's homemade
- 4:34Speaker 1: sauces and and his you know seasonings how he combines them,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and his perfectly perfectly fried chicken, and so you know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: just with his creation and my business mind, we thought,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know, we got to bottle this up and sell it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: We know what I loved about was the Bobby brown bag.
- 4:51Speaker 1: It in friedns. Yeah, brown bagging it is what we
- 4:54Speaker 1: call it. And it's just like a new school shaking bag.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah you know right. So the crazy thing is watching
- 5:02Speaker 1: Bobby fly some chicken is pretty masterful. He uh just
- 5:06Speaker 1: puts the right amount of mixture with the seasoning. And
- 5:09Speaker 1: I'm telling you he he says, one of his uh,
- 5:13Speaker 1: one of his tricks is you know, making sure that
- 5:15Speaker 1: oil is exactly the right temperature. But when that chicken
- 5:18Speaker 1: it comes out rashwan. It is so light, crispy, the
- 5:24Speaker 1: right crunch, right seasoning, and I mean never greasy. So
- 5:27Speaker 1: I thought, you know what, for someone like me who
- 5:30Speaker 1: does not really know how to fry many things, I
- 5:33Speaker 1: just you know, I don't do a lot of flying. Um.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I wanted to learn and I remembered back in the
- 5:38Speaker 1: day the shaking bake and how was that created? So
- 5:42Speaker 1: that's how the brown bag and it came about how
- 5:45Speaker 1: to show someone like myself and many others how to fry. Um.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Your food's really light and easy and it's it all
- 5:52Speaker 1: comes together. It's the bag. You can drop your your
- 5:55Speaker 1: meat or your choice of fish or whatever, and you
- 5:58Speaker 1: put the seasonings in there. That's our He comes in
- 6:00Speaker 1: the packet, shaking up and drop it. It's as easy
- 6:03Speaker 1: as that. I'm gonna tell you something. When I saw
- 6:05Speaker 1: that on the website, I go, this is brilliant, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: because I'm telling you because if you go to the
- 6:12Speaker 1: website and you see the recipes he has on that,
- 6:14Speaker 1: I kept going, Okay, what else? Because that's what because
- 6:17Speaker 1: that's what really hurts people in cooking, you know. And
- 6:21Speaker 1: and we're the society of now where people are you
- 6:24Speaker 1: know there there there they do it yourself first. And
- 6:26Speaker 1: so so when I saw the chicken recipe, just throw
- 6:30Speaker 1: the chicken in there, and I said, when the chicken
- 6:32Speaker 1: floats to the top, it's done. People don't even know that,
- 6:37Speaker 1: right I read the website. Now your part was doing
- 6:41Speaker 1: this research, not going I didn't know that when to
- 6:45Speaker 1: the top it's done. So Bobby, you do that, huh.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You have to let it float. When it floats, and
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know it's cooked all the way through that. Um,
- 6:56Speaker 1: it's not gonna be greasy because the grease is gone
- 7:00Speaker 1: be out of the chicken by time do you put
- 7:02Speaker 1: it in your mouth? Wow? Wow, Wow, here's here's a
- 7:06Speaker 1: quote on the website that I love. I'm just gonna
- 7:08Speaker 1: say this, Uh, it's on the on the website. We
- 7:11Speaker 1: are committed to serving you seasoning and spices of great
- 7:14Speaker 1: quality and good to your body. All of our products
- 7:17Speaker 1: are gluten free and non gmo, made with all natural
- 7:21Speaker 1: ingredients and no preservatives. No animals are used in making
- 7:25Speaker 1: of our products, so cooking with Bobby Brown Foods is
- 7:27Speaker 1: a great choice for our vegetarian and vegan customers. We're
- 7:32Speaker 1: continuously coming up with new products, so please stay tuned
- 7:35Speaker 1: to see what else comes out this year. Yeah, we're
- 7:38Speaker 1: super excited about that. We have some, um, we we're
- 7:43Speaker 1: just finalizing bottling some of our marinades and dressings which
- 7:47Speaker 1: were super excited about. We have a three and one
- 7:50Speaker 1: sauce that you can use as either a marinade, a dressing,
- 7:53Speaker 1: or a dipping sauce. And you know, we're just just
- 7:57Speaker 1: geared up and we can't wait until you know, we
- 7:59Speaker 1: are just stocked all the shelves with everything that you
- 8:03Speaker 1: know our family likes to eat. We we really are
- 8:06Speaker 1: conscious about putting things in our body that are healthy
- 8:10Speaker 1: obviously for our children and ourselves and um, and still
- 8:14Speaker 1: have a lot of great flavor. You know, that's the
- 8:16Speaker 1: thing that we're trying to blend together. So well, that's
- 8:20Speaker 1: important too because the fact that this is a brand
- 8:23Speaker 1: and the reason I really like it. I always talk
- 8:25Speaker 1: about the power couple because it allows us to understand
- 8:28Speaker 1: that there is you win. You win both ways. You know,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you gotta have the white point of view and the
- 8:34Speaker 1: and the husband point of the male point of view
- 8:36Speaker 1: or the female point of view, and it has to
- 8:37Speaker 1: be a partnership because you can't win with some one
- 8:40Speaker 1: side feeling that this is I should be done and
- 8:43Speaker 1: other side I said, this is I wanted to be done.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You have to win with a joint thought. That's why
- 8:47Speaker 1: when I talked about the Brown and Baggatt, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: both of them was sited about it, both of them. Yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 1: that's that's the way to go. Yeah, we definitely about it.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Our kids love it too, So you got to you
- 9:00Speaker 1: got to, you know, because of the fact that when
- 9:02Speaker 1: when that went to recipe the ship the shrimp, Oh
- 9:08Speaker 1: shrimp all about Tell me about that, Bobby, come on,
- 9:11Speaker 1: tell me about that is something that I came up
- 9:14Speaker 1: with that um, because I don't like I don't like
- 9:18Speaker 1: my kids eating too much fried foods. So I came
- 9:21Speaker 1: up with shrimp all of Bobby, which is which is basically,
- 9:25Speaker 1: uh was like sa shrimp. It's like, um, it's like
- 9:32Speaker 1: a shrimp scamp. It's like a shrimp scamp, but with
- 9:35Speaker 1: peppers and differently ingredient. We get the vegetables in there
- 9:40Speaker 1: with his peppers, a colorful peppers. And of course kids
- 9:43Speaker 1: love rice, but yeah, they're all they're always very picky
- 9:46Speaker 1: about what their soft looks like. So he makes an
- 9:48Speaker 1: amazing sauce. Well, congratulations, because first of all, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I googled you. You know, I'm no stranger than what
- 9:54Speaker 1: you know. I'm over there looking at chicken, but I'm
- 9:58Speaker 1: over there looking at you too. Okay, you know what.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I google her every day. Yeah, it's beauty of our conversation.
- 10:08Speaker 1: First of all, I feel like I'm talking to friends.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I feel like I'm talking to two people who are happy,
- 10:13Speaker 1: and that's important. And then so so when we when
- 10:20Speaker 1: this is the one question I want to get out
- 10:21Speaker 1: the Bobby Brown story, Bobby, I want you to respond,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and then at least as a producer, I want you
- 10:26Speaker 1: to respond, Bobby, why was it important to tell that story? Um?
- 10:31Speaker 1: I think It was important because I don't want anybody
- 10:35Speaker 1: else to be able to tell what I lived. Um,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and I wanted I wanted the story to be told right.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I wanted the story to be the truth, um, and
- 10:49Speaker 1: not something that somebody makes up or something somebody rant
- 10:53Speaker 1: in a in a newspaper. So it came from my
- 10:56Speaker 1: heart too, the screen basically. And um, we had a
- 11:02Speaker 1: great writer with us Abdu and a great executive producer
- 11:10Speaker 1: who is you know, one of my good friends, um,
- 11:14Speaker 1: Jesse Collins. And UM, it was just it was just
- 11:18Speaker 1: important to get out there a Lisa as a producer.
- 11:22Speaker 1: M hm. Was it important to make sure it's stayed
- 11:25Speaker 1: on track, that it didn't get out of hand, and
- 11:27Speaker 1: make sure the story was authentic? Oh? Number one, it
- 11:31Speaker 1: had to be authentic. Um. Obviously it being personal to
- 11:35Speaker 1: my heart because it's my husband's story. But more importantly,
- 11:38Speaker 1: when you put out any story, whoever story you're going
- 11:41Speaker 1: to tell or you're gonna be part of, uh, you know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: putting the story out there, you wanted to be authentic.
- 11:47Speaker 1: That's where people respect you. You know, Um, this is
- 11:52Speaker 1: a real man and his life and and and you know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: it was such a privilege that he's with us because
- 11:59Speaker 1: there's so many wonderful stories that people are fighting over
- 12:02Speaker 1: to tell of people that have already passed. And I think, um,
- 12:05Speaker 1: you know, we had such an advantage that you're going
- 12:07Speaker 1: to hear his voice all the way through it. It's
- 12:10Speaker 1: not someone else who knew him. His voice, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 1: it's his along with again the beautiful team that we
- 12:17Speaker 1: had together that Bobby was speaking. But number one, authenticity
- 12:21Speaker 1: is very important. Well, thank you both for coming on
- 12:23Speaker 1: my show sending a care package. I'm gonna talk to
- 12:26Speaker 1: Shift to know our well so I can give some
- 12:28Speaker 1: videos with a brown and baggatt fried chicken stramp. We're
- 12:33Speaker 1: gonna make it happen. I was looking for a better
- 12:39Speaker 1: way to check in on our house while I was
- 12:41Speaker 1: at work and a friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical,
- 12:44Speaker 1: but decided to give it a shot, and I bought
- 12:46Speaker 1: a Blink camera system. With our last security system, false alarms,
- 12:50Speaker 1: wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get out of
- 12:53Speaker 1: my bad. But our Blink system is different. Their motion
- 12:55Speaker 1: activated cameras that work inside and outside, Their wire free,
- 12:59Speaker 1: easy to set up, and they run on two lithium
- 13:01Speaker 1: batteries that last up to two years total peace of mind,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and Blink camera system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions.
- 13:08Speaker 1: We were on vacation and I gotten to learn on
- 13:09Speaker 1: my smartphone that motion was detected at our front door.
- 13:12Speaker 1: I checked my Blink app and I saw it was
- 13:14Speaker 1: just my cool new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed

- 13:42Speaker 1: thing every burglar did first was knocked on the door,
- 13:45Speaker 1: and if no one answered, they broke in. That's what
- 13:48Speaker 1: sold me on my new Blink x T two cameras.
- 13:50Speaker 1: They detect motion, so if someone gets near my cameras,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I getting to learn on my Blink smartphone app with
- 13:56Speaker 1: a video clap. But even better is the two way

- 15:14Speaker 1: and Disney just to name a few. Please work with
- 15:16Speaker 1: the money making Conversation. The Dynamic producing duo Sonya Armstead
- 15:20Speaker 1: and Rochelle Brown. Hello. Hi. First of all, you're in
- 15:29Speaker 1: the same city, are you? Are you different locations? Good
- 15:36Speaker 1: talking like and as you mentioned earlier, we are we
- 15:39Speaker 1: are grinding and heading to our next production. Okay, what production?
- 15:44Speaker 1: Can you use? It is? It is? Can we talk
- 15:45Speaker 1: about your next the production you're going to. We are, um,
- 15:51Speaker 1: super super excited. This is Rochelle Brown speaking. We have
- 15:55Speaker 1: been selected by Cleo TV, which is a new millennium
- 16:00Speaker 1: work for African American women serving a very undeserved audience
- 16:05Speaker 1: for content on lifestyle programming. And we are the official
- 16:09Speaker 1: production arm launching the network with four new original lifestyle shows.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So we have one show called Jeff eat On Jeff
- 16:19Speaker 1: j J who was one of the hottest young up
- 16:22Speaker 1: and coming down the earth. Ms Brown just had him
- 16:26Speaker 1: on the show, just had him on the show, went
- 16:29Speaker 1: to his restaurant in New York two weeks ago. I
- 16:32Speaker 1: love it. I just want to let you know I'm
- 16:34Speaker 1: helping out your brain. I'm helping out your brain. Continue. Awesome, awesome,
- 16:40Speaker 1: thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. And then um,
- 16:43Speaker 1: our second show is a show called Do So Kitchen.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Was chef Jonnards Wells and Porsha Thomas where we take
- 16:50Speaker 1: a vegan and a really um fine take on new
- 16:54Speaker 1: Southern cooking, mix them together and give people options and
- 16:59Speaker 1: we're really excited about that. And then our third show,
- 17:03Speaker 1: UM will be a travel show where it's designed for
- 17:07Speaker 1: the first time when we're taking Ties and Shomp and
- 17:10Speaker 1: Elton Anderson and putting them together and traveling through an
- 17:13Speaker 1: African American's perspective, UM really fine tuning outlines on culture.
- 17:19Speaker 1: And last but not least is a super super big
- 17:21Speaker 1: excited show called Living My Design with Chicken Jazz, where
- 17:26Speaker 1: we give your house a redsign and you'll love this Raissan,
- 17:29Speaker 1: you get a reveal and the meal oh oh, so
- 17:34Speaker 1: you you better know because you know that's very often,
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know African America people celebrate over food, over everything.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And then we also hear a powerhouse love kind of
- 17:49Speaker 1: gets something new you've never seen a show like on
- 17:52Speaker 1: a food network on an HTV that and give you
- 17:55Speaker 1: the festival World. So we're gonna give you a reveal
- 17:58Speaker 1: in the medal. Well, that's really hot. So that's the
- 18:02Speaker 1: Jeff Gernard. I promote him every Saturday. I've been promoting
- 18:05Speaker 1: the show every Saturday on my Facebook page. So again
- 18:09Speaker 1: another relationship helping. Didn't even know I was helping because
- 18:13Speaker 1: the fact that I just trust the relationships and what
- 18:17Speaker 1: you're trying to do. And then the Travel Show give it,
- 18:19Speaker 1: give us a little bit more detail on that travel show.
- 18:21Speaker 1: That really interests me. Where they traveling. Is it all
- 18:24Speaker 1: state side when I say stateside in the United States?
- 18:27Speaker 1: Or they just where are they going? Well, this is
- 18:30Speaker 1: this is the great thing about the Travel Show. Let's
- 18:31Speaker 1: the sign is speaking of Shan. The great thing about
- 18:34Speaker 1: the Travel Show is that we're gonna take you all over.
- 18:36Speaker 1: We'll take you off the beaten pass on the East coast,
- 18:39Speaker 1: the West coast, but that are culturally authentic to us. Um.
- 18:43Speaker 1: You know, that's the great gallery, the great person that's
- 18:46Speaker 1: out there designing UM. But you can't do a show
- 18:50Speaker 1: and and help and lift through the lens of our
- 18:52Speaker 1: eyes without going to the Motherland. So we are going
- 18:54Speaker 1: to go to Africa. We are going to you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: highlight some of the great things about our people, um
- 19:00Speaker 1: uh museum, just cultural things that make us who we are.
- 19:04Speaker 1: So we are going to head to Africa and we're
- 19:06Speaker 1: also going to tap into the Caribbean because when you
- 19:08Speaker 1: start looking at thanks full circle, it just seems like
- 19:10Speaker 1: the Caribbean and Africa are natural places to go, but
- 19:13Speaker 1: everybody can't just hop a plane and go there. So
- 19:14Speaker 1: we're gonna also places and the continent the US that
- 19:18Speaker 1: you need to go to people, you need to see people.
- 19:20Speaker 1: But what you're doing people that you need to support
- 19:22Speaker 1: and you know, just help uplift each other, you know,
- 19:25Speaker 1: And so that's that's very important. And so it's called
- 19:27Speaker 1: lens of culture, and you will be getting a bird's
- 19:29Speaker 1: eye view of our culture through the lens of these
- 19:31Speaker 1: two awesome posts that are gonna take you two places
- 19:35Speaker 1: off the beaten path. Now some places will be on
- 19:37Speaker 1: the beaten path, but things that you didn't know you
- 19:39Speaker 1: didn't know. Maybe perhaps that UM a gallery that you
- 19:43Speaker 1: know we hear about all the time, was founded and
- 19:45Speaker 1: owned and operated by the African American. So we're diving
- 19:47Speaker 1: deep into the backgrounds of these travel locations just to
- 19:50Speaker 1: make sure when you do hit the road with your
- 19:53Speaker 1: family on that family union or hit the road on
- 19:55Speaker 1: a business trip, take to take two minutes out to
- 19:58Speaker 1: go out and um learn a little bit about yourself
- 20:00Speaker 1: and support that person that's out there grinding as we are.
- 20:04Speaker 1: See they can pitch. That's the key. They can they
- 20:08Speaker 1: can pitch. You know, one get tired up and just
- 20:11Speaker 1: pick up to start talking. That's what you know what
- 20:14Speaker 1: we were joking. We don't weays say we're the ying
- 20:15Speaker 1: and the Yang because sometimes you know, when when Rochelle's
- 20:18Speaker 1: going hard and I'm like, oh lord, Rochelle, I don't
- 20:20Speaker 1: know if I can talk, and no good one I can.
- 20:22Speaker 1: But and then she she can pick up, and you know,
- 20:24Speaker 1: we sort of we kind of know when to go
- 20:26Speaker 1: and when the stop when to go and you know,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but you know what, we've been in business for sixteen
- 20:31Speaker 1: seventeen years together, so and we've been we were friends
- 20:33Speaker 1: before that. So I think one of the things that
- 20:35Speaker 1: make us unique as they have black owned company, is
- 20:38Speaker 1: that we kind of get each other. You know, we
- 20:40Speaker 1: spend more time with each other than we sometimes spend
- 20:42Speaker 1: with our husbands and our family. So we are we
- 20:45Speaker 1: are the Yang and the Yang. That's the beautiest relationship.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Relationship work for a reason, and because you have different
- 20:50Speaker 1: personalities and you trust each other, the ideas just flow.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I know for a fact, because I sat down with them,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I sat down with him and was just in awe
- 20:59Speaker 1: of them because I know how difficult it is to
- 21:01Speaker 1: pitch a TV show. It is. It is difficult. It's
- 21:05Speaker 1: difficult to convince a network that your idea is original,
- 21:08Speaker 1: it's gonna stay on for more than one episode because
- 21:11Speaker 1: they're about to invest money into you. And the fact
- 21:14Speaker 1: that they are the production company for TV wants new network, Cleo,
- 21:19Speaker 1: come on, Brown Girls, Black Girl Magic, you know it?
- 21:23Speaker 1: You know it, hey, because it's because it's really, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: one of the crazy one of the crazy things is
- 21:32Speaker 1: and you know, we talked about the pitching, but let's
- 21:34Speaker 1: let's be honest. It's all about relationships as well. You know.
- 21:36Speaker 1: So if we didn't have a good relationship when TV
- 21:38Speaker 1: one kicked off sixteen seventeen years ago, we wouldn't be
- 21:43Speaker 1: the the production team that was canceled. So it's all
- 21:47Speaker 1: about the stopped there, stop there, Richean, I know Afford
- 21:51Speaker 1: Legan's okay, I know Mama Leggans, Cath Hughes. Okay, y'all
- 21:57Speaker 1: are talented. Okay, Rishan been pitching since two thousand and
- 22:01Speaker 1: one to Afric likings. I've got one TV show on
- 22:04Speaker 1: this network. Okay, you two are super talented. I'm just
- 22:09Speaker 1: letting you know. It's about relationships, it's about power, is
- 22:13Speaker 1: about knowing each other. But you too, a gifted and
- 22:16Speaker 1: now I can't. I can't take that. I can't through it.
- 22:19Speaker 1: I can I know what you said, and you're absolutely true.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It's about relationship. Iou just leting you know. This re
- 22:23Speaker 1: shot on mcdonth I got brand, I got brand, I
- 22:27Speaker 1: got all that, but I do not have what you have.
- 22:29Speaker 1: That gift to be able to shape a story and
- 22:32Speaker 1: to be able to manipulate the tone, the ups and
- 22:36Speaker 1: the value, and to be able to say this show
- 22:38Speaker 1: will win on your network. That's a gift, young ladies.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm not gonna that's a gift, all right, what's we'll
- 22:44Speaker 1: take that too. You'd be better you be here, you
- 22:46Speaker 1: got you got fo TVs and production right now for
- 22:49Speaker 1: the Cleo network just launched, and just told you you're
- 22:51Speaker 1: the one that's gonna make it successful. Please don't take it.
- 22:54Speaker 1: It's been handed to you. And that's why you're on
- 22:58Speaker 1: my show because I want to tell people about how
- 23:00Speaker 1: gifted you guys are, how how talent you Because one
- 23:03Speaker 1: thing I'm not gonna do on this show is let
- 23:06Speaker 1: people think that the chief success is easy. To achieve
- 23:11Speaker 1: consistency in business, it's hard. And the fact that you
- 23:15Speaker 1: guys have know how you know, there's a lot of
- 23:18Speaker 1: people you know that the small lets they work with them.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You know they just said ge Garment, Dr Steve Perry.
- 23:24Speaker 1: They've worked with a lot of people out there in
- 23:26Speaker 1: this business. That lets me know that even if I
- 23:30Speaker 1: said down one time with what nephew tom me, it
- 23:32Speaker 1: didn't work out, not because it just didn't work out,
- 23:35Speaker 1: but that didn't stop them. They just went on. They
- 23:37Speaker 1: went on. The little whisper went on someplace. That whispering
- 23:40Speaker 1: is somebody else's there. But that's what they don't The
- 23:46Speaker 1: word no does not stop their brand. And so so
- 23:50Speaker 1: you got two TV shows you got you got the
- 23:52Speaker 1: one with my Man Chef you know that's on right now,
- 23:55Speaker 1: correct on the Cleo Chap And then you have and
- 23:58Speaker 1: Chef JJ that shows on right now as well, correct
- 24:02Speaker 1: correct okay. And then you have the travel show when
- 24:05Speaker 1: does that premiere that's kind of the men August in August,
- 24:10Speaker 1: and then the the the Remodeling and Food show in
- 24:14Speaker 1: May in Living by Design correct okay now now, Roshan
- 24:19Speaker 1: McDonald wants to pitch your show to you? How do
- 24:22Speaker 1: I pitch your show to the Pilehouse ladies? Now you
- 24:26Speaker 1: know you got us on speed Out. It ain't nothing
- 24:28Speaker 1: but because all I'm gonna do with your throw ideas
- 24:34Speaker 1: and what you think like, it's really funny because it's
- 24:37Speaker 1: because I'm confident. I'm confident in myself, but I'm so
- 24:40Speaker 1: humbled by their gifts that it's incredible because of the
- 24:43Speaker 1: fact that I know I've been there. I pitched, Uh,
- 24:46Speaker 1: I pitched. I've gotten about about six shows on TV pitching.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Never one on MTV. That was the Shop Bobyshop show.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Uh This Big Time on w B. Uh it was
- 24:58Speaker 1: uh Mobile Home this Aster that was on w B
- 25:02Speaker 1: as well as CMT and then it pulled over. That
- 25:05Speaker 1: was another show that was on v H one, and
- 25:08Speaker 1: then of course, uh Steve Harvey Talk Show, and it
- 25:11Speaker 1: was two more shows. So so I know the difficult
- 25:15Speaker 1: nature of it, and I just want to say congratulations
- 25:17Speaker 1: and and know that I'm fans and I want to
- 25:21Speaker 1: keep telling people how special YouTube ladies are. And you
- 25:24Speaker 1: keep winning. Okay, okay, we appreciate that, and that means
- 25:28Speaker 1: a lot coming from you, and you could picture at anytime,
- 25:31Speaker 1: because I understand you're an amazing, amazing bakers. Yes, already
- 25:37Speaker 1: already be doing my homework because I already got to
- 25:39Speaker 1: show on on my order. Chief whisper chee whispering already
- 25:42Speaker 1: you need to stop, so I just stop. Stop. But
- 25:45Speaker 1: I love both of you. We talked to it. I
- 25:47Speaker 1: got another idea. I want to pitch to you guys
- 25:48Speaker 1: about a very talented show. But I will be contacting
- 25:52Speaker 1: you this week. Blah blah. I was looking for a
- 25:54Speaker 1: better way to check in on our house while I
- 25:56Speaker 1: was at work, and a friend recommended Blank. I was skeptical,
- 26:00Speaker 1: but decided to give it a shot, and I bought
- 26:01Speaker 1: a Blink camera system. With our last security system, false alarms,
- 26:05Speaker 1: wires everywhere, and monthly fees, we couldn't get out of
- 26:08Speaker 1: my bad But our Blink system is different. Their motion
- 26:11Speaker 1: activated cameras that work inside and outside their wire, free,
- 26:14Speaker 1: easy to set up, and they run on two lithium
- 26:16Speaker 1: batteries that last up to two years. Total peace of mind.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And Blink camera system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions.
- 26:23Speaker 1: We were on vacation and I gotten to learn of
- 26:25Speaker 1: my smartphone that motion was detected at our front door.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I checked my Blink app and I saw it was
- 26:30Speaker 1: just my cool new device being delivered. Hey, we agreed
- 26:33Speaker 1: no new devices except Blink. Just kidding, not kidding. With
- 26:36Speaker 1: Blink camera systems starting under eighty bucks, home security just

- 26:56Speaker 1: asked how they broke into homes and the one thing
- 26:58Speaker 1: every burglar did was knocked on the door, and if
- 27:01Speaker 1: no one answered, they broke in. That's what sold me
- 27:04Speaker 1: on my new Blink x T two cameras. They detect motion,
- 27:07Speaker 1: so if someone gets near my cameras, I getting to
- 27:10Speaker 1: learn on my Blink smartphone app with a video clap.
- 27:13Speaker 1: But even better is the two way talk feature that
- 27:15Speaker 1: lets me talk to whoever is they're using my phone,
- 27:18Speaker 1: from telling the delivery guy where to leave the package
- 27:21Speaker 1: to saying hi to the kids at the door. With
- 27:23Speaker 1: Blink cameras, it's like I'm always home. Blink cameras or

- 28:23Speaker 1: his business and celebrity relationships to empower small businesses with
- 28:26Speaker 1: information to succeed. My next guest. He's on the phone
- 28:38Speaker 1: and you can currently see him on four different television
- 28:41Speaker 1: show that's how busy he isn't You can catch him
- 28:44Speaker 1: on as Charlie on ABC is very popular Black age. Well,
- 28:48Speaker 1: he was an n double a cp Image Award nominee
- 28:51Speaker 1: for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and on
- 28:54Speaker 1: ABC Family Grown Ish ABBS Detective Daniel E. J. Tanner,
- 29:01Speaker 1: on the TPS comedy Angie Tribecker, and the host of
- 29:05Speaker 1: bt S Game Shows Face Value Opsite Tiffany Hass. He's
- 29:09Speaker 1: also a writer. I didn't know that until I started
- 29:13Speaker 1: doing my research, which means we share a lot in comment.
- 29:15Speaker 1: He's an Emmy nominated writer, actor, very funny, stand up
- 29:19Speaker 1: comedian and entrepreneur. Please work on the money making conversations
- 29:23Speaker 1: comedian Dean Cole, Hey, how you doing, bro? How are you?
- 29:28Speaker 1: How are you selling? I feel really good? Dean A
- 29:30Speaker 1: big fan. Literally, get that out the way first, because, uh,
- 29:34Speaker 1: in the business where you get to see talent and
- 29:36Speaker 1: you get to see people grow. Over the last twenty years, uh,
- 29:39Speaker 1: I've been able to watch your talent and one of
- 29:41Speaker 1: the funny backstories about how you got started because you're
- 29:44Speaker 1: you're from Chicago, right, yes, okay, and you got started
- 29:48Speaker 1: like a fifty dollar joke if I remember correctly, right, yeah, bad,
- 29:52Speaker 1: there was a fifty dollar bad that it was and
- 29:58Speaker 1: never looked back from. Now. Now here's the funny part
- 30:01Speaker 1: about it is that you know my background. Uh, everybody
- 30:04Speaker 1: knows from management producing TV shows and and I was
- 30:09Speaker 1: I would say, I'm I'm still a stand up comic.
- 30:12Speaker 1: How can you take that title away from me? Is that? Uh?
- 30:15Speaker 1: Is that I was a writer. I was a sitcom writer.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Now early on were you were you doing stand up
- 30:20Speaker 1: and you was a writer because you were doing the
- 30:21Speaker 1: Tonight Show Conan O'Brien. Correct, Yeah, I was doing the
- 30:26Speaker 1: Uh used to write for Conan O'Brien for about seven years. Uh,
- 30:31Speaker 1: I was always stand up, started off and stand up.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Still a stand up um. And then that led to
- 30:38Speaker 1: me performing on the Tonight Show as a guest, and
- 30:43Speaker 1: from there Conan picked me up to be a writer
- 30:48Speaker 1: on his staff. And then I what's with him for? Like,
- 30:51Speaker 1: like I said, about seven years, that's all and I'm
- 30:54Speaker 1: still I still rock with him to this day. Like, uh,
- 30:57Speaker 1: have the new show coming on TBS. I was his
- 31:01Speaker 1: last guest on his other format of show that was
- 31:04Speaker 1: on TVs and he's revamping this new show was like
- 31:08Speaker 1: a thirty minute show instead of an hour show. H.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'll be on there as well. So yeah, still rock
- 31:16Speaker 1: with Connor. We toured this year, just some stand up shows.
- 31:19Speaker 1: And so yeah, it's a very good friend of myne
- 31:23Speaker 1: uh Man guy who changed my life and always em
- 31:27Speaker 1: bettter to him. That's important because you know, uh, Steve Harvey,
- 31:31Speaker 1: it was an important asset in my life. Gave me
- 31:33Speaker 1: my first writing job and sitcom. Yeah, you know. And
- 31:36Speaker 1: so I know what you. I know what relationships can
- 31:38Speaker 1: do for you, you know, because they can open absolutely,
- 31:41Speaker 1: absolutely the beauty I like about your careers. There somebody
- 31:44Speaker 1: opened the door, but you didn't let it close. H
- 31:48Speaker 1: nah nah and and and and are you bringing up
- 31:52Speaker 1: Steve Harvey? He was another inffluential person in my life
- 31:56Speaker 1: as far as where I'm at today. Steve and I
- 32:00Speaker 1: go way back from him performing in Chicago and started
- 32:05Speaker 1: his radio career in Chicago. We used to perform at
- 32:09Speaker 1: all jokes aside in Chicago. He used to do the
- 32:13Speaker 1: radio in order to promo his show. That's how he started.
- 32:16Speaker 1: He would do the radio for free. Well, while he
- 32:19Speaker 1: would be doing his show the club, We're trying to
- 32:23Speaker 1: find new talent to do five minutes in front of
- 32:26Speaker 1: him every night, and out of everybody, they chose me.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And I used to do five minutes in front of him,
- 32:31Speaker 1: and then me and him would go out and my
- 32:33Speaker 1: mother's car later night and hang out around the city
- 32:37Speaker 1: or whatever. After that, we had plenty conversations about just uh,
- 32:44Speaker 1: stand up and how to and how to be and
- 32:47Speaker 1: and and what to do. And then that that to
- 32:50Speaker 1: him getting several jobs, which he had this philosophy which
- 32:57Speaker 1: was abc always to be closed. And I've seen him.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I've seen him one time on a lot while I
- 33:04Speaker 1: was at Coned. I hadn't seen him in a while.
- 33:06Speaker 1: And when I've seen him over and he knew I
- 33:08Speaker 1: was like for Coned and he was about to I
- 33:11Speaker 1: think he was about to start family feud. I think
- 33:14Speaker 1: he was out I having like, uh, yeah he was.
- 33:17Speaker 1: He's having meetings and stuff, and um, I told him
- 33:22Speaker 1: what I was doing. We have another conversation in the
- 33:25Speaker 1: parking lot. And he influenced me to never marvel when
- 33:32Speaker 1: your success, you know. He influenced me to be like,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you know, just you know, when you do something, you
- 33:39Speaker 1: do that and let that catapult another thing. Don't marvel
- 33:43Speaker 1: and the thing that you're in. And I was very
- 33:46Speaker 1: influential to me, which let me to be where I
- 33:49Speaker 1: am now. You know, so exactly EXAC and that's very important.
- 33:58Speaker 1: So let's talk about But I think like about the
- 34:00Speaker 1: shows that they're all are different. They are they all
- 34:04Speaker 1: bring out a different talent of yours. They allow you
- 34:06Speaker 1: to be a different personalities. That by is that you know,
- 34:10Speaker 1: we're all just trying to work, but unfortunately, fortunately for
- 34:13Speaker 1: you it's worked out that way. Tell me about the
- 34:16Speaker 1: you know, grown Ish your role on that and because
- 34:19Speaker 1: I don't ever assume that everybody knows everybody, so let's
- 34:22Speaker 1: talk about the ABC show where you are nominated for
- 34:28Speaker 1: Outstanding Supporting Actor in the Comedy Series. Yeah. Absolutely black.
- 34:32Speaker 1: This is a a show that was very necessary. Um uh.
- 34:38Speaker 1: It catapulted this movement which is going on right now
- 34:42Speaker 1: with a lot of black actors actresses on television right now,
- 34:47Speaker 1: where there wasn't a lot of black shows on the
- 34:50Speaker 1: air at the time. And then when when Black Is
- 34:53Speaker 1: came out and people see how well it did, I
- 34:57Speaker 1: think it's like help catapults of the networks to be like, man,
- 35:01Speaker 1: we need a black show. But the difference of the
- 35:03Speaker 1: shows now, you know, it's no, it's no longer like
- 35:08Speaker 1: just a black face on a show or black faces
- 35:12Speaker 1: to make up a black show. What we did was
- 35:15Speaker 1: we became a black voice, which is way more important.
- 35:19Speaker 1: And so as we became that open doors for other
- 35:23Speaker 1: black voices, shows that had black voices that spoke to
- 35:28Speaker 1: how we feel in America, what we're going through whatever.
- 35:31Speaker 1: And then it was very and it was like we
- 35:34Speaker 1: didn't know the magnitude of what was gonna go on.
- 35:37Speaker 1: We just we had something special, but we didn't know
- 35:40Speaker 1: the magnitude. And when when it resonated with the people,
- 35:44Speaker 1: we were so excited to uphold the torch and keep
- 35:48Speaker 1: going with it. You know, Black It's very important show, uh,
- 35:52Speaker 1: to this day, I think it's relevant to all races
- 35:56Speaker 1: to be a blueprint to what's going on right now.
- 36:00Speaker 1: So being a part of that movement has been life changing,
- 36:06Speaker 1: um and always would be indebted to you know, Kenya Barris,
- 36:10Speaker 1: Anthony Anderson as well. You know. So uh, it's a
- 36:15Speaker 1: great show. Grown She's a spin off of that whether
- 36:17Speaker 1: teenage girl Yarra. She goes out to go to college
- 36:22Speaker 1: and lives her life of virus being Grown. You know,
- 36:26Speaker 1: I played Charlie Telfy on both shows, which is a
- 36:30Speaker 1: co worker Anthony's in the office, and and then on Grownish,
- 36:36Speaker 1: I became dean a students over there and being an
- 36:40Speaker 1: adjunct professor. But you know, it all works out. One
- 36:44Speaker 1: thing about my career, anything I ever auditioned for, I
- 36:49Speaker 1: never got nothing, nothing at all, anything that you Blackish Conan.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Conan hired me just out of the clear blue. I
- 37:00Speaker 1: thought I got off stage. He hired me Blackish. I
- 37:03Speaker 1: was a woman by the name of Timer, Goins told
- 37:07Speaker 1: Kenya innovative artist. Yeah, Timer, my girl. She told Kenya.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Kenya was looking for a writer. So Kenya, hey, we
- 37:16Speaker 1: should you should try to get Dione Cole and I
- 37:19Speaker 1: went over there to interview with Kenyan to be a writer.
- 37:22Speaker 1: And the person I was supposed to show up to
- 37:25Speaker 1: play the character that I played, Charlie, didn't show up,
- 37:28Speaker 1: and so he asked me to play that character. Anything
- 37:32Speaker 1: I ever got I never auditioned for. Because the things
- 37:36Speaker 1: that people look at when they're like writing stuff and
- 37:39Speaker 1: putting stuff together, they look at a certain type. If
- 37:44Speaker 1: you're a different kind of person, they can't they can't.
- 37:47Speaker 1: They can't think of you and put you in there
- 37:50Speaker 1: just something that they didn't think of. So therefore, why
- 37:53Speaker 1: would they choose you for the product project? You get
- 37:56Speaker 1: what I'm saying, because you don't fit what they thought
- 38:00Speaker 1: definitely though your voice, you know you're the exactly exactly.
- 38:03Speaker 1: So so if if I'm if I'm never gonna be
- 38:07Speaker 1: what anybody intends for me to be, then they're not
- 38:10Speaker 1: gonna pick me. But some people are going to be
- 38:13Speaker 1: smart enough to go. You know, I've never seen the
- 38:16Speaker 1: likes of such of this person. I'm gonna take a
- 38:20Speaker 1: chance on them because this person is talented, unique and
- 38:23Speaker 1: those that have done that, we have done magic together,
- 38:26Speaker 1: which is like Conan and Steve Correll and can your
- 38:29Speaker 1: Barriss like you, you can find them, Yo, I want this.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's the way people the way people
- 38:36Speaker 1: like cast people and stuff like that. I think they
- 38:39Speaker 1: just it's kind of like shopping in a sense. You
- 38:42Speaker 1: might you have a brown suit and you're looking for
- 38:46Speaker 1: some brown shoes. That's you're in the mall looking for
- 38:49Speaker 1: some brown shoes and you can't find them. But you
- 38:51Speaker 1: see these green shoes that amazing, but they don't go
- 38:55Speaker 1: with your brown suit. But you see them, and you're like,
- 38:59Speaker 1: why you're gonna go Still, You're still gonna go get
- 39:02Speaker 1: them brown shoes with the green shoes gonna be on
- 39:04Speaker 1: your mind. You might even come back and get them
- 39:07Speaker 1: green shoes and then get an outfit to go at
- 39:09Speaker 1: them green shoes. That don't mean them green shoes ain't amazing.
- 39:13Speaker 1: They just didn't go with that outfit. And so that's
- 39:16Speaker 1: how that's that's how I always look at how I
- 39:19Speaker 1: am when they're coming a bit come to the business,
- 39:22Speaker 1: and how I've always been like schosen to do things
- 39:25Speaker 1: like And that's how a lot of people should look
- 39:27Speaker 1: at it. Don't ever look at it like you're not
- 39:29Speaker 1: worthy enough. You just didn't go at that outfit. But
- 39:32Speaker 1: they're gonna come back for you if they if they
- 39:34Speaker 1: want you, they're gonna come back for you. And they
- 39:37Speaker 1: did that with me several times. So I've never got
- 39:40Speaker 1: nothing out to audition for nothing. Well, my man, I'm
- 39:44Speaker 1: just gonna tell you, I've been seeing you. I admire
- 39:47Speaker 1: your your personality and your style. It's unique. You're not
- 39:50Speaker 1: a Root, You're not a Kevin or You're not a
- 39:52Speaker 1: Steve Harv You're not you're not a Nick Canny. You're
- 39:55Speaker 1: Cole and that's special. Never makes that That's what I'm
- 39:58Speaker 1: excited to have had you on my show. Not that
- 40:00Speaker 1: I'm a friend of yours and a fan of yours,
- 40:02Speaker 1: and you know a lot of names that I know.
- 40:05Speaker 1: And keep mastering that multiple streams of income. Okay, just
- 40:10Speaker 1: keep mastering. All right. We'll be back with more and
- 40:14Speaker 1: thank you for coming on my show. The money making
- 40:16Speaker 1: conversation is to show for the people because I gave
- 40:19Speaker 1: me information they want to know about from John McDonald

- 41:35Speaker 1: That's what sold me on my new Blink x T
- 41:37Speaker 1: two cameras. They detect motion, so if someone gets near

- 43:14Speaker 1: can take please gonna money making conversation. Felicia D. Henderson,
- 43:22Speaker 1: you are truly a fool, my brother. Well, well, first
- 43:26Speaker 1: of all, first of all, you know it, you know,
- 43:29Speaker 1: to be this point place in my life to be
- 43:31Speaker 1: interviewing a family member that is uh, that has been
- 43:34Speaker 1: so important to my life personally professionally. Um. You know,
- 43:39Speaker 1: we cried together, we laughed together, we shared our success stories,
- 43:42Speaker 1: and we've shared our frustrations in this business over the years. Yes,
- 43:46Speaker 1: Felicia D. Henderson, you're Georgia grad right, University of Georgia
- 43:50Speaker 1: right University or u c l A undergrad u ci A,
- 43:54Speaker 1: n s A pH d. But University of Georgia bulldogs
- 43:57Speaker 1: in b A, my brother. See it's I'm saying so
- 44:00Speaker 1: you can forget all that you see, let it talk
- 44:02Speaker 1: you and you you would did Atlanta true about u
- 44:06Speaker 1: c l A. Look, get to the point that's right,
- 44:10Speaker 1: bull done, that's about I gotta go friend on that
- 44:17Speaker 1: and all that stuff. So I never forget to signal
- 44:21Speaker 1: stay to Sorority Incorporated to see what I'm saying. That
- 44:24Speaker 1: that's how that's the people, that's the person who branded
- 44:26Speaker 1: me in the industry with I was just your little
- 44:29Speaker 1: background before we get started interviewing this disgusted, incredible career,
- 44:33Speaker 1: there would not be uh tooth breaks is not enough.
- 44:36Speaker 1: But you know, here's what Sean mcgonne. You know, I'm
- 44:39Speaker 1: gonna know it at all and she knows that. Okay,
- 44:41Speaker 1: I'm anna do it at all. And I come over
- 44:43Speaker 1: it sister sister. You know she's supervising producio. Sister sister
- 44:46Speaker 1: that's tied the star Ti and to Marramari and uh
- 44:50Speaker 1: and I'm a type person, you know, I think I
- 44:52Speaker 1: could write your boy and she come right, I'm gonna
- 44:55Speaker 1: come writing phenomenon. That's right until I got the up. Okay,
- 45:02Speaker 1: see it through so many scripts back into me, said
- 45:05Speaker 1: rache Ch Actually to more Day Roane, you can't write.
- 45:07Speaker 1: And she actually told me, I don't think you're gonna
- 45:09Speaker 1: make it in this business. I don't. I don't think
- 45:12Speaker 1: this is for you. I don't think this is because
- 45:14Speaker 1: because the thing about this is that what you have
- 45:17Speaker 1: one thing you learned when you come up against somebody
- 45:19Speaker 1: who's talented. You know, it's like just like anything. You
- 45:22Speaker 1: think you can play basketball, go play Michael Jordan's you
- 45:24Speaker 1: think you can play basketball, go play Lebron James. You
- 45:26Speaker 1: think you can write sit in a room with relicious,
- 45:33Speaker 1: Well that's good company. But the thing is it's not.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Sometimes people really can't write. But then there's sometimes people
- 45:40Speaker 1: just need a little direction and if they you know,
- 45:43Speaker 1: especially once you care about them and get invested in them.
- 45:46Speaker 1: And you and I were ticket Steve from day one.
- 45:49Speaker 1: People always tell me Richard, you have reinvented yourself so
- 45:54Speaker 1: many times, and sometimes I just do it automatically, and
- 45:57Speaker 1: I don't like, I'm reinvented myself right now, hold inn
- 46:00Speaker 1: just right. It's like it's time to it's time for
- 46:05Speaker 1: something new. And you can't be afraid of change. That's
- 46:07Speaker 1: what you and I know that. People say, what is
- 46:10Speaker 1: your secret? I'm like, you can't be afraid of change,
- 46:13Speaker 1: or you can be afraid, but you must act despite
- 46:16Speaker 1: your fear. You always have a feel, you know, like,
- 46:20Speaker 1: oh God, this is probably time for a change, and
- 46:22Speaker 1: you'll just sit and wait past the moment that you
- 46:24Speaker 1: should have made a change. This is this is There
- 46:27Speaker 1: is always laugh at me. There's always laughing because I
- 46:29Speaker 1: would be I'm writing. I can write, Okay, I can write,
- 46:33Speaker 1: but but but but I always had something else going on, yeah,
- 46:37Speaker 1: well you always have the side hustle. You always have
- 46:40Speaker 1: to side. So yes, you know, I come back from
- 46:45Speaker 1: launch late. Ye, Like, where are you doing? Oh? Oh,
- 46:49Speaker 1: don't make you better be happy? Sarah Penny Johnson isn't
- 46:52Speaker 1: on this call to talk about the time you came
- 46:54Speaker 1: back late from Launchester Parker's because at meetings, y'all at
- 46:58Speaker 1: meetings to go me ain't something? Else said he was
- 47:01Speaker 1: at the bank and the bank got held up, and
- 47:03Speaker 1: so that's why he came. Oh my god, like I
- 47:10Speaker 1: was coming back to the park and that started Monique
- 47:13Speaker 1: at the time, and Dorian Wilson and and I was
- 47:16Speaker 1: like four hours later on four and and and we
- 47:19Speaker 1: was deadline to this, said Sarah said, where you been?
- 47:22Speaker 1: I said, in my mind, go, I can't say I've
- 47:25Speaker 1: been hit up me And she gave me this opportunity.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Banker bank, I was a banking bank got robbed and
- 47:35Speaker 1: U said, she said, I said it said bank I
- 47:39Speaker 1: rob wish where I said in Baby Hills. I went
- 47:41Speaker 1: in there and the guy said everybody down, and we
- 47:45Speaker 1: got that. You come back to work a calmly with
- 47:49Speaker 1: the story. And that's a testament how much Sarah loves
- 47:52Speaker 1: you because she went okay and immediately called me like,
- 47:56Speaker 1: let me tell you that the Libra shot that told me.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Even today she asked me about that bank robbers to
- 48:05Speaker 1: Rishan the bank robbers story, and let's just explain. Sarah
- 48:10Speaker 1: friend of Jahnson, Creative Mosia, Creative, the Parkers, an incredible writer,
- 48:15Speaker 1: amazing family matters. That's what you met Sara on Family Matters. Correct.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I met Sarah on Family Matters. I met Sarah and
- 48:23Speaker 1: be the Spirits who were they were writing partners at
- 48:25Speaker 1: the time. But Sarah mentored me my whole comedy career.
- 48:30Speaker 1: And even when I transitioned to drama. You know, um,
- 48:33Speaker 1: she continued to mentor me because she's the normal one
- 48:37Speaker 1: and I'm the hothead. So she's always been able to
- 48:39Speaker 1: talk to me off the ledgend when I got the opportunity,
- 48:42Speaker 1: because she always wanted to transition to drama. So when
- 48:45Speaker 1: I did a single Ladies for b E t I,
- 48:48Speaker 1: I called her and it's like, hey, you're ready to
- 48:50Speaker 1: do drama. It was such a pleasure. You know, when
- 48:53Speaker 1: you can work with your friends, Rashan, as you know,
- 48:55Speaker 1: there's no more joy than working with your friends, and
- 48:58Speaker 1: so we did that together. Then she did the Quad
- 49:01Speaker 1: with me as well. She's doing another show, another drama
- 49:05Speaker 1: right now at b T so she um, she's a
- 49:08Speaker 1: drama writer now. But without that woman, I don't know
- 49:12Speaker 1: where I'll be because she really taught me calm your
- 49:15Speaker 1: grass down. But mar Brocker kill Okay, yes, yes, Kenya
- 49:22Speaker 1: Burrows come on now. Felicia Henderson Okay, Felicia, Ye, don't
- 49:29Speaker 1: ever get don't get to twist Rashean McDonald. You know
- 49:32Speaker 1: what I'm saying, That young lady has has really uh
- 49:36Speaker 1: made an impact because she she cares so much about everything.
- 49:40Speaker 1: But the thing about it, when I talked to Felicia,
- 49:42Speaker 1: like she she's the one. She's just sliding right past J. J.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Abrams though, Yeah, just slid right past. Yeah, you know
- 49:49Speaker 1: that moment working on Fox. You know what I'm saying,
- 49:53Speaker 1: all the networks. So when you when you look at
- 49:55Speaker 1: your resume and your body of work, you know, and
- 49:58Speaker 1: like I said, the reason I have you on the
- 50:01Speaker 1: show because you are because you know, people are so
- 50:03Speaker 1: aware of social media has made so many people wear
- 50:05Speaker 1: and black people watch TV anyway, So as your role
- 50:09Speaker 1: of expokesperson change because you to just write your show.
- 50:13Speaker 1: And but now people know so much about you, like
- 50:17Speaker 1: I just google your name, picture of you pops up,
- 50:20Speaker 1: you know. Information. Yes, it's different, isn't it? And you know,
- 50:24Speaker 1: I just came back. I did a panel at Comic
- 50:27Speaker 1: Con and several interviews down the Comic Con and San Diego,
- 50:30Speaker 1: you know, for The Punisher. But it's it's so interesting
- 50:34Speaker 1: now everything is so different. And every interview I did,
- 50:37Speaker 1: and even as I started the panel, they said, first, okay,
- 50:40Speaker 1: let everyone know your handles. Like that's where they start, like,
- 50:43Speaker 1: tell everyone where they can find you on social media, which,
- 50:47Speaker 1: by the way, and follow Felicia d follow Felicia Duh,
- 50:51Speaker 1: Instagram and Twitter. So as I'm trying to learn resh
- 50:54Speaker 1: and so I'm such a private person and as you know,
- 50:57Speaker 1: I'm better one on one. I'm not a big party person,
- 51:00Speaker 1: and I'd like to look at people, you know, one
- 51:02Speaker 1: on one and in your eyes. That's when I'm happy.
- 51:05Speaker 1: It's but it has changed, and they're like, okay, you
- 51:07Speaker 1: have to get out there. You go, I go, But
- 51:09Speaker 1: I'm a writer. My writing will speak for it. So
- 51:11Speaker 1: they're like, no, everybody knows what a showrunner is now.
- 51:14Speaker 1: You can't just hide behind the work. So it's like
- 51:18Speaker 1: you've become more of a public figure and people do
- 51:21Speaker 1: know like stuff about you. You're like, where did you
- 51:24Speaker 1: even know that? Well? You know that interviews you did
- 51:26Speaker 1: add it was it was recorded and put up on YouTube.
- 51:29Speaker 1: I'm like, really, because I'm also a very frank person,
- 51:33Speaker 1: and I'm used to being very frank and being very honest,
- 51:36Speaker 1: and and you have a moment now where you're like, Okay,
- 51:40Speaker 1: I have to edit myself with it because I don't,
- 51:42Speaker 1: you know, know where this is going to air or
- 51:46Speaker 1: where this is gonna be seen. And as you also know,
- 51:49Speaker 1: is that I'm also a professor at the University of
- 51:52Speaker 1: Texas Austin, so I'm also a longhorn now. And you know,
- 51:57Speaker 1: so I'm like, I get there, it's only my second
- 51:59Speaker 1: year there. I get there and they're like, hey, so
- 52:01Speaker 1: you did this this. I'm like, whoa were just that?
- 52:03Speaker 1: But you haven't testing that? Because they everybody in the studio,
- 52:07Speaker 1: they're just shaking their head now, they just we just
- 52:09Speaker 1: can't believe her. They all just they don't they don't
- 52:13Speaker 1: know what raised me in this business. Now, you know,
- 52:15Speaker 1: when I'm sitting down and not even know why I
- 52:17Speaker 1: had to tell people I was at the bank robbery.
- 52:19Speaker 1: When I came back, they would not have leave anything else.
- 52:23Speaker 1: The funny brought about the bank You just still trying
- 52:26Speaker 1: to justify. I have to justify that because when everybody
- 52:30Speaker 1: looked at me, they looked at me. You could see
- 52:32Speaker 1: I was such a good story. I'm a good story
- 52:34Speaker 1: teller anyway. And I told him and I said, when
- 52:37Speaker 1: the guy said everybody down, I got damn. I was down.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Four hours I was down. I was down. I said,
- 52:46Speaker 1: I'm happy on me here. And I was rubbing my
- 52:48Speaker 1: shirt like you know, like you wrinkled. I never had
- 52:54Speaker 1: a wrinkle shirt on your life. You would ask for
- 52:59Speaker 1: leave said, this has been my best interview ever. Can
- 53:03Speaker 1: you come back when Empire starts taping in the fall,
- 53:06Speaker 1: can you come back on the Absolutely it would be
- 53:08Speaker 1: my pleasure. It's a pleasure to be part of that
- 53:10Speaker 1: as well. And I would like to you know, you
- 53:12Speaker 1: and me, we we do what we do to be
- 53:15Speaker 1: where we have to be at all times. So you
- 53:18Speaker 1: call in our come running. I love you, But this
- 53:20Speaker 1: time I'm gonna bring you and Sarah together. Both of
- 53:22Speaker 1: y'all gotta be able to phone at the same time.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I love you, Okay, keep winning everybody that's placed Henderson
- 53:30Speaker 1: the Empire. I was looking for a better way to
- 53:33Speaker 1: check in on our house while I was at work,
- 53:35Speaker 1: and a friend recommended Blink. I was skeptical, but decided
- 53:38Speaker 1: to give it a shot, and I bought a Blink
- 53:40Speaker 1: camera system. With our last security system, false alarms, wires everywhere,
- 53:44Speaker 1: and monthly fees, we couldn't get out of my bad.
- 53:47Speaker 1: But our Blink system is different. Their motion activated cameras
- 53:50Speaker 1: that work inside and outside, their wire free, easy to
- 53:52Speaker 1: set up, and they run on two lithium batteries that
- 53:55Speaker 1: last up to two years. Total peace of mind and
- 53:57Speaker 1: Blink camera system started under eighty bucks with no subscriptions.
- 54:01Speaker 1: We were on vacation and I gotten to learn on
- 54:03Speaker 1: my smartphone that motion was detected at our front door.
- 54:06Speaker 1: I checked my Blink app and I saw it was
