Illinois Rep. Carol Ammons faces eight counts of wire fraud and one of false statement, accused of funneling state tax funds to nonprofits to benefit her and her daughter, who worked for one. Her husband, Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons, is charged with conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of evidence, allegedly trying to mislead investigators. Speaker Emanuel Welch has suspended Ammons from House activities and is reviewing state funds.
