- 2:12Speaker 1: stark because I got two and I got Marcus and Genes.
- 2:15Speaker 1: So ladies, first, Gene, tell me about how you feel
- 2:18Speaker 1: about this. We feel amazing, we're excited, we're honored, we're
- 2:24Speaker 1: blessed to be a part of the first average Jazz
- 2:29Speaker 1: Music Awards. That's highlighting jazz um and we're just like
- 2:34Speaker 1: thrilled to not only have been considered for three nominations,
- 2:39Speaker 1: but also the part of the live performance. Uh, that's
- 2:43Speaker 1: gonna happen. Oh, she's gonna she's gonna drop it before
- 2:47Speaker 1: you even talk, Marcus. That's how she do, That's how
- 2:50Speaker 1: you do. It's a celebration. We were donna make it
- 2:53Speaker 1: do the Hey, Marcus, you know when you when you
- 2:57Speaker 1: when you when we talked, you know, one of the
- 2:59Speaker 1: beauty of your you were so inspiring because you understood
- 3:03Speaker 1: and not saying Gene didn't. But you know, a lot
- 3:06Speaker 1: of people don't get the fact about amount of hard
- 3:08Speaker 1: work that you have to engage yourself in to pursue
- 3:11Speaker 1: your dream and also sometimes your dream changes, and a
- 3:15Speaker 1: lot of people to understand do you have to sometimes
- 3:17Speaker 1: be fluid and go off track to get back on
- 3:20Speaker 1: your dreams because you didn't start with the Beata project.
- 3:23Speaker 1: You know, you St. Louis doing your own things. So
- 3:26Speaker 1: can you tell us the the significance of a show
- 3:29Speaker 1: like the Jazz Music Awards being a national platform being
- 3:34Speaker 1: hopefully one day our vision that w c OK has
- 3:37Speaker 1: to become our version of the Grammys. Our version of
- 3:40Speaker 1: the Billboard Awards, our version of all these great award
- 3:43Speaker 1: shows out there, and it's based in Atlanta. Tell us
- 3:45Speaker 1: about their emotional take on the Jazz Music Awards, Well,
- 3:49Speaker 1: what's amazing about it is, first of all, I'm gonna
- 3:52Speaker 1: speak that y'all are the first in terms of that
- 3:56Speaker 1: I've seen in my time of doing this on the level,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and you all are leaders in this, and so it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: such an honor to be a part of this, whether
- 4:05Speaker 1: it was the first year, the second, third, or fourth
- 4:07Speaker 1: or fifth year, it's celebrating music that's born in our coach,
- 4:12Speaker 1: that's rooted in our culture and in our history as
- 4:15Speaker 1: a people, as Black people in this country. But of course,
- 4:19Speaker 1: you know, the music stretches abroad and stretches through throughout
- 4:23Speaker 1: the whole entire world, but it was birth in the
- 4:26Speaker 1: black community, and so I'm just excited about that. And
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's given love to all the different sizes of jazz music,
- 4:34Speaker 1: straight ahead smooth jazz, and I'm sure over the years
- 4:38Speaker 1: it's going to continue to keep expanding and just embracing
- 4:43Speaker 1: as like you all are doing and just embracing the
- 4:45Speaker 1: music as a whole. And I and we just love
- 4:48Speaker 1: this because it's on the level and it's bringing in
- 4:50Speaker 1: some of the greatest artists in the world. So I'm
- 4:54Speaker 1: we're honored. We'll be right back with more Money Making
- 4:57Speaker 1: Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now, let's return to Money
- 5:03Speaker 1: Making Conversations Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. Well, you know, the
- 5:08Speaker 1: honor is mine because of the fact that you know,
- 5:11Speaker 1: on this anniversary, I wanted to bring in people who
- 5:14Speaker 1: hit home for me and and and you too. When
- 5:17Speaker 1: you came on my show, it was kind of like family.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I'm I'm one of those guys who know I'm
- 5:22Speaker 1: a jazz I find jazz, you know, and because jass
- 5:26Speaker 1: doesn't always find me because I don't know where to go,
- 5:29Speaker 1: you know, I'll be listening to great music and go, wow,
- 5:31Speaker 1: what is that? And that's why I found your music.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Like black Board that's my song, you know, Blackboards my song?
- 5:37Speaker 1: You know that that that's my song. J That's my
- 5:42Speaker 1: song black Board that's on that's on that Generation's album.
- 5:44Speaker 1: If y'all don't know, like I told y'all when I'm
- 5:47Speaker 1: driving the w C. Okay, every Tuesday, I put on
- 5:51Speaker 1: my song my my Drop, my Pandora generations and I'm good.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I'm good all the way in and so when I
- 5:58Speaker 1: when I look at that, and then we go over
- 6:00Speaker 1: to Gene because you dropped it. Anyway, we might want
- 6:02Speaker 1: to tell the world that opening opening the Jazz Music
- 6:06Speaker 1: Awards will not only be the Bailor Project starring Marcus
- 6:10Speaker 1: and Gene, is gonna also be jaz me a Horn
- 6:14Speaker 1: and Diana reads. Talk to me first, come on, come on,
- 6:22Speaker 1: come on, gee, talk to me. Said you said you
- 6:23Speaker 1: just gonna get out there and throw out a little
- 6:26Speaker 1: nugget before I even talk to Marcus. Tell us about
- 6:29Speaker 1: jumping on that stage because because you know something, Marcus,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I love her, but you know she tried to jump
- 6:35Speaker 1: in front of you and get the last wing on
- 6:36Speaker 1: on fried Chicken. What I'm saying, that's up? No, I'm
- 6:42Speaker 1: looking at that. No, I'm looking at that fried chicken wings.
- 6:44Speaker 1: She go over there, how you doing with Sean and
- 6:46Speaker 1: get reached for it? And Jesus tell us about that
- 6:52Speaker 1: performance being the opening act for the Jazz Music Awards,
- 6:56Speaker 1: which take place at the carb Energy Center October twenty second. Uh,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you know the beauty of being because y'all gonna be
- 7:03Speaker 1: busy nominations. I'm I don't know the score, but I
- 7:08Speaker 1: like to believe, you know, so love gonna be shown
- 7:11Speaker 1: in the nominations too. But y'all, y'all. Stepping on that
- 7:13Speaker 1: stage is hosted by a girl, d Deep Bridgewater. She's
- 7:16Speaker 1: one of the hosts. It's been announced for the Jazz
- 7:19Speaker 1: Music Awards. So but it's all about introducing that first act.
- 7:24Speaker 1: We swing, give us a little people who don't know
- 7:26Speaker 1: about what we see. Why is that it's that beat,
- 7:30Speaker 1: you know, that cotton club to come into hall and
- 7:32Speaker 1: beat that beat, then make it just rock side by
- 7:34Speaker 1: side and snap your fingers, snap your fingers, snap your fingers. Hey,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I'm telling you come with Jane flour Is yours. We swing.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I think you dropped the Obama me because I didn't
- 7:46Speaker 1: know we were opening. So that's so dope, and I
- 7:49Speaker 1: think it's a great way to perfect way to open. Like, Hey,
- 7:52Speaker 1: this is Jazz Awards and we swing. Swing is you know,
- 7:56Speaker 1: the answence of jazz music's foundational It's um one of
- 8:00Speaker 1: them things where you know, sometimes sometimes we we move
- 8:05Speaker 1: in and out of it and away from it, but
- 8:06Speaker 1: we always come back to it. So I'm honored to
- 8:09Speaker 1: have um a legacy artist, UM like Diane Reeves join
- 8:14Speaker 1: us and just Mia who is like our baby sister.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Killing the game Um three
- 8:22Speaker 1: different generations, which really represents the album that it was
- 8:25Speaker 1: featured on generation. So UM, you know, we're just looking
- 8:28Speaker 1: forward to it. We we and UM. I believe or
- 8:30Speaker 1: and Evans is gonna be there. I believe he gonna
- 8:35Speaker 1: he's gonna help us swing it about it there. We
- 8:37Speaker 1: have to throw his name in there because oor and
- 8:40Speaker 1: Evans is the person he's one of the nominees. But
- 8:42Speaker 1: he introduced me to Jane. That's how I met Jane. Okay, okay,
- 8:46Speaker 1: all right now, and I used to get all personal.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Now I gotta slide up to the mic now. You know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: you know St. Louis meet New Jersey. You know St. Louis,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Missouri meet New Jersey. Okay, Mitt west mes East Coast. Yes,
- 9:02Speaker 1: So we're gonna be so on that stage. You know
- 9:05Speaker 1: the interesting thing about it when when we we we
- 9:08Speaker 1: spoke and I'm gonna tell you all something it was
- 9:10Speaker 1: it was it was because you don't know. I gotta
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'm blessed to have a podcast and as uh in
- 9:16Speaker 1: UM real popular and when your interview, I'm gonna just
- 9:20Speaker 1: be honest with you. When your interview aired on my podcast,
- 9:23Speaker 1: it was in the first quarter. It was the top
- 9:26Speaker 1: downloaded interview on my podcast. I kid you, not kid
- 9:34Speaker 1: you not so and so that let me know that
- 9:38Speaker 1: a lot of my fan base or into jazz and so,
- 9:42Speaker 1: because you know, you know, jazz is such a relaxing sound.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And so I told my staff and they said, Richard,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and I said, uh, they said that the Bailor Project
- 9:57Speaker 1: interviews your top download for the quarter. I knew it.
- 9:59Speaker 1: I knew it jumped up when the interview when you dropped,
- 10:02Speaker 1: because what I do is when it airs on w
- 10:05Speaker 1: c Okay, the following week, I aired on my national
- 10:08Speaker 1: podcast and Chid, yeah, I went crazy. Everybody love the
- 10:11Speaker 1: Baby Project. That is crazy. Thank you. That's good. That's
- 10:19Speaker 1: that's awesome. Thank you so much. I gotta speak to truth.
- 10:23Speaker 1: We'll be right back with more Money Making Conversations Masterclass
- 10:26Speaker 1: with Rashan McDonald. Now, let's return to Money Making Conversations
- 10:33Speaker 1: Masterclass with Rashan McDonald. When you when you look at
- 10:36Speaker 1: the you know because then in the interview, Marcus, you
- 10:40Speaker 1: dropped so many nuggets in the second half of that
- 10:43Speaker 1: interview by life by not giving up, by motivation and
- 10:48Speaker 1: and also realizing that, like I said earlier, just because
- 10:52Speaker 1: you have a dream doesn't mean that you when when
- 10:55Speaker 1: you hit a detour that you give up on it.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And if you give up on it, you know, makes
- 11:00Speaker 1: you understand you have people around you that can pull
- 11:02Speaker 1: you back to your dream. And you you spoke like that,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and I've never heard that. And I think a lot
- 11:08Speaker 1: of our listeners, not only World World world fans of
- 11:11Speaker 1: the music and became fans of the Bailor Project, which
- 11:14Speaker 1: stars Marcus and Gene. Of course you know what is
- 11:17Speaker 1: that driving force and keeps you focused and and also
- 11:20Speaker 1: drop some nuggets on what what not only who you
- 11:23Speaker 1: are and but also what you guys represent as a couple. Wow. Well,
- 11:28Speaker 1: I'll start off by saying it's as far as I mean,
- 11:33Speaker 1: first of all, just being you know, really being able
- 11:36Speaker 1: to just really keep your focus and like I'll be
- 11:39Speaker 1: honest with you, like even right now, as as we've
- 11:42Speaker 1: been blessed to be successful in different areas, something is
- 11:46Speaker 1: constantly reminded me, even just living everyday life on social media,
- 11:50Speaker 1: because you can see so many people doing great things
- 11:53Speaker 1: but I even started a mantra that I would say
- 11:55Speaker 1: to myself, focus the Bella project, Focus the bell of project. Jack,
- 12:00Speaker 1: focused the Bella project, because I'll see so many outside
- 12:03Speaker 1: things and you start looking at oh man, I want
- 12:06Speaker 1: to do that. Oh man, I think we should do that. No,
- 12:09Speaker 1: study on your path and on your journey, because I'm
- 12:12Speaker 1: realizing that all these things will come in due time.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And just like even just to throw just even a
- 12:19Speaker 1: crazy plug, like while we're on our I think we
- 12:22Speaker 1: we we spoke to you first quarter and right after
- 12:25Speaker 1: that was the Grammys. We were completely drained. And that's
- 12:28Speaker 1: what you call staying on your path and on your journey.
- 12:31Speaker 1: We get called for this. We got called for this gig,
- 12:35Speaker 1: to a private gig, which is was for three nights,
- 12:39Speaker 1: um three nights. They literally built a jazz club just
- 12:42Speaker 1: for us to play and and I'm thinking to myself, bad,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I'm so tired, And they said, no, we want to
- 12:48Speaker 1: style you guys. We want to do this and do that.
- 12:51Speaker 1: It's a whole another world that we never was exposed to.
- 12:54Speaker 1: We show up to this place and it's the most
- 12:57Speaker 1: amazing jazz club built just for us, to say, only
- 13:00Speaker 1: for them to tear it down when we finish that.
- 13:03Speaker 1: We ever seen something said, you know, you guys need
- 13:06Speaker 1: to record this because you never know. All I have
- 13:09Speaker 1: to tell you is that we recorded this, uh particular
- 13:13Speaker 1: particular three nights and within two or three months flipped
- 13:17Speaker 1: a live album end up coming out, which is just
- 13:21Speaker 1: dropped three weeks ago, called lies at Apparatus, And of
- 13:24Speaker 1: course I'm giving the plug, but I'm just saying all
- 13:26Speaker 1: that to say, when you stay on your path and
- 13:29Speaker 1: on your journey, certain things just come your way that
- 13:33Speaker 1: you just would never think. And there's something else. I mean,
- 13:36Speaker 1: we wanted to talk to you make next year again
- 13:38Speaker 1: because that's something else that we just did it last
- 13:40Speaker 1: week that I can't believe what just happened, but we
- 13:42Speaker 1: can't sar that now. So I'm just saying it's important
- 13:46Speaker 1: to stay focused on your path and on your journey.
- 13:50Speaker 1: That is extremely, extremely important because it keeps you to
- 13:54Speaker 1: half you almost got a half tunnel vision, especially with
- 13:56Speaker 1: so much happening right now in the world social media
- 14:00Speaker 1: and you know, and all these things. And then last thing,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I'll say, get around people. Get around people that are
- 14:08Speaker 1: that that that that that that pushes you like for instance,
- 14:11Speaker 1: one last day out of all this, I don't know
- 14:13Speaker 1: if you heard of the Emmy Award winning Adam Blackstone
- 14:17Speaker 1: just dropped the brand new album called Legacy. Do you
- 14:20Speaker 1: know we literally just recorded that session about three weeks ago.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I don't know how we made it happen. The album
- 14:27Speaker 1: just dropped. A set niece was last night and this
- 14:31Speaker 1: album is like, it is amazing. It's who's Who're on
- 14:35Speaker 1: there all the way from Kurt Franklin to Mary Mary
- 14:38Speaker 1: to Jasmine Sullivan too. I mean, you name it, Who's
- 14:41Speaker 1: who Queen Latifa and we're featured on the track on
- 14:44Speaker 1: this album, the Beila Project. Uh Older, what's his name?
- 14:49Speaker 1: Leslie is a Leslie Older? Yes? So yes, So I
- 14:53Speaker 1: just say that to say and I'm anna transition is
- 14:55Speaker 1: over to the wife because I can go all day
- 14:56Speaker 1: on this on the married couple's baby. What do you
- 14:59Speaker 1: have to say? A question? Question? I'm I'm chasing market.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I gotta go, man, you know, I got I got,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I gotta locked this down. Man again, I want to
- 15:12Speaker 1: bring you all back so Jeane can talk because the
- 15:14Speaker 1: gene I'll talk to you last us I realized you
- 15:17Speaker 1: probably it was prepared to I'll talk her this time,
- 15:20Speaker 1: but again, but again, he's telling the truth to just dropped.
- 15:25Speaker 1: The Evening Live apparatus is out now, you gotta check
- 15:28Speaker 1: it out. But what I want to do is, you know,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I'm just shouting out my celebration. I want to come
- 15:32Speaker 1: back to another forty five minute interview with you guys
- 15:35Speaker 1: next month so we can sit down and talk before
- 15:38Speaker 1: the the the Jazz Music Awards, which just October twenty second.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I do want to congratulate you on the three nominations.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I want to congratulate you and taking the time to
- 15:47Speaker 1: be the opening act for the Jazz Music Awards again
- 15:50Speaker 1: October twenty second. Stay blessed and we're gonna talk soon.
- 15:53Speaker 1: But remember, I want you all to come back on
- 15:56Speaker 1: the air with me. We're gonna do video, and we're
- 15:58Speaker 1: gonna do a video, gonna op everything October next month
- 16:02Speaker 1: for forty five minutes. Is that a deal? Yeah? And
- 16:06Speaker 1: we're coming down there to the Atlanta to eat some
- 16:08Speaker 1: chicken with you. So I'm gonna I'm gonna work out
- 16:10Speaker 1: so we can do that absolutely, and I can still
- 16:13Speaker 1: look good in the outfit for the world of Chicken.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to slutty Vegan, I love you, Thank
- 16:18Speaker 1: you all for coming on the show. The Baylor Project
