- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfle Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Good morning and welcome to another edition
- 0:18of Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex here at Snrful
- 0:20Solutions Group in what I have to say is a beautiful
- 0:23Sacramento. And I'm Morgan. It is so great to
- 0:26have you with us today as we break down some
- 0:28of the tech news that, you know, actually matters
- 0:31to your life. It is officially Thursday, February
- 0:3412th, 2026. And, you know, looking at the weather
- 0:38map this morning, I am feeling very, very happy
- 0:41to be right here in California. Oh, you and me
- 0:43both. If you are tuning in from, say, the Great
- 0:46Lakes region, especially downwind of Lake Erie
- 0:49or Ontario, you probably already know this. Keep
- 0:51those shovels handy? Yeah. The lake effect snow
- 0:54warnings are still in full force. It looks pretty
- 0:56intense. And out west, it's a bit of a mixed
- 0:59bag, really. We've got rain, some high elevation
- 1:01snow through the Great Basin. Right. And a new
- 1:04front is hitting the Pacific Northwest. So if
- 1:06you're in the Cascades, you're probably expecting
- 1:08some fresh powder. But right here in Sacramento,
- 1:10we are looking at a high of 63 degrees and just
- 1:15plenty of sunshine. Perfect. Now. Before we jump
- 1:19into all the tech chaos, let's take a quick look
- 1:22at the money. The markets are, well, they're
- 1:26continuing their upward trend. The Dow Jones
- 1:28closed yesterday at 50 ,303. That's up about
- 1:33a quarter of a percent. The S &P 500 is, it's
- 1:37knocking on the door of 7 ,000, closing at 6
- 1:39,964. And for all you crypto watchers out there,
- 1:43it's a good morning for you too. Bitcoin is trading
- 1:45up about 1 .3 % sitting right around 67 ,931.
- 1:50So yeah, mostly green arrows across the board.
- 1:53Which brings us to something else that'll, you
- 1:54know, keep you in the green. Or at least keep
- 1:57you awake enough to enjoy it. We've got a new
- 1:59partner on the show. And I had to say, I'm genuinely
- 2:01excited about this one. No, absolutely. Let's
- 2:03talk about strong coffee. Now, I will admit,
- 2:05I'm usually complete snob when it comes to my
- 2:07morning brew. If it didn't take me 10 minutes
- 2:09to make with a scale and a grinder, I generally
- 2:12don't want it. But that's the problem, right?
- 2:15Most of us just don't have that 10 minutes. We
- 2:17need the caffeine, but we also need the function.
- 2:20And that's exactly where Strong Coffee is different.
- 2:22It's this premium instant coffee that actually
- 2:25tastes like a traditional brew, but the kicker
- 2:27is what's inside. Yeah, it's packed with 15 grams
- 2:29of protein, MCTs and adaptogens like ashwagandha.
- 2:33Which is huge! Huge for avoiding that mid -morning
- 2:36crash. You get this clean, sustained energy,
- 2:38no jitters, just focus. Exactly. It's instant,
- 2:42it's functional, and it tastes great. If you
- 2:44want to upgrade your morning routine, just head
- 2:45over to strongcoffeecompany .com. And because
- 2:48you listen to us, you can use the promo code
- 2:50SNARFL, that's S -N -A -R -F -U -L, for 20 %
- 2:54off your entire purchase. 20 % is a solid deal.
- 2:58Definitely give it a shot. But right now... I
- 3:00think it's time we open up the Morningstar. absolutely
- 3:05stacked today. We've got a massive shake -up
- 3:08at Elon Musk's empire, a sudden surge in the
- 3:10Chinese AI market that really challenges the
- 3:13U .S. dominance narrative. And finally, a huge
- 3:16win for gamers that might just spell the end
- 3:18of the expensive console era. So let's start
- 3:20with the big one. The dust is still settling
- 3:23from that massive merger between SpaceX and XAI.
- 3:27We're talking about a combined entity valued
- 3:29at 1 .2 $5 trillion. A trillion with a T. It's
- 3:34just staggering. But here's the thing with mergers.
- 3:36That big, they are almost always followed by
- 3:39friction. And right now, XAI is seeing a pretty
- 3:42significant exodus of talent. That's right. Just
- 3:44in the last couple of days, two more co -founders,
- 3:47Yuhai, Tony Wu, and Jimmy Bai, announced they're
- 3:49leaving. And if you're keeping score at home,
- 3:51that means XAI is now down to only half of its
- 3:54original 12 co -founders. That is a lot of brain
- 3:57drain in a really short amount of time. Usually
- 3:59you see people stick around for the vesting after
- 4:01a merger or at least play nice for a year. This
- 4:04feels abrupt. It really does. It suggests a major
- 4:08culture clash or maybe a fundamental disagreement
- 4:10on direction. And it seems to be tied to a massive
- 4:13reorganization that Musk announced. He told the
- 4:15team that XAI is being restructured into four
- 4:18core application areas to, quote, improve speed
- 4:21of execution. Okay, let's run through these four
- 4:23areas, because three of them make perfect sense,
- 4:26and one of them sounds like a trolling attempt
- 4:29that sort of accidentally became a business plan.
- 4:32I know exactly which one you're talking about.
- 4:33So first, you have Grok main and voice. Right,
- 4:36the consumer chat bot. Then you've got coding,
- 4:38which is self -explanatory. Third is imagine,
- 4:41covering all the image and video generation.
- 4:44And the four? Number four is a division called
- 4:46macro hard. Macro hard, I mean... Okay, on the
- 4:51surface, it's as subtle as a brick, that jab
- 4:53at Microsoft, but once you get past the name,
- 4:57the actual mission for this division is, it's
- 5:01wild. It really is. Musk described the goal as
- 5:04creating digital agents capable of, and I'm quoting
- 5:07here, full digital emulation of entire companies.
- 5:10Okay, let's unpack that, because emulating a
- 5:12company is a really heavy phrase. We're not just
- 5:14talking about an LLM writing an email for you.
- 5:16Not at all, or, you know, summarizing a meeting.
- 5:19No. Think about all the workflows in a corporation.
- 5:22You've got accounts receivable talking to sales,
- 5:25logistics talking to inventory. He's describing
- 5:27a system where one agent handles payroll, another
- 5:30one negotiates supply chain contracts. And a
- 5:33third agent is writing code to patch the software
- 5:36that they are all running on. Exactly. If Macroheart
- 5:38actually works, and that is a huge if, you are
- 5:42decoupling business execution from human labor
- 5:44entirely. It's the difference between a tool
- 5:47you use and a machine that just replaces the
- 5:50user. It's the ultimate efficiency play, but
- 5:53it's also a governance nightmare. I mean, if
- 5:55you have agents talking to agents, negotiating
- 5:57contracts with other agents, where's the kill
- 5:59switch? Where's the human oversight? Right. Well,
- 6:01speaking of oversight, or the lack of it, that
- 6:03brings us to the controversy that's been brewing
- 6:05with XAI's current model, Grok. Yeah, this has
- 6:08been all over X the past couple of days. Grok
- 6:10just started giving these unprompted, very controversial
- 6:13responses about... white genocide in South Africa.
- 6:16And users were asking totally unrelated questions,
- 6:19right? Things about baseball or cartoons. And
- 6:22Grok would just pivot to this really politically
- 6:24charged topic. Which is a complete nightmare
- 6:26for any AI company. You want your bot to be helpful,
- 6:29not, you know, start a political debate when
- 6:31you just ask for a kooky recipe. So XAI put out
- 6:34a statement saying it was an unauthorized modification
- 6:37that violated their core values. Basically, someone
- 6:41changed the system prompts without going through
- 6:43the proper channels. That's a huge security red
- 6:46flag. It implies the controls on the model's
- 6:50behavior just weren't as tight as they should
- 6:52have been. So to fix it and to try and regain
- 6:54some trust, XAI says they're going to start publishing
- 6:57their system prompts on GitHub. That's actually
- 7:00a pretty bold move. Transparency is usually the
- 7:02first casualty in these situations. It is. They're
- 7:05basically saying, look, here are the instructions
- 7:07we're giving the AI. You can see them for yourself.
- 7:10It's an attempt to prove they aren't trying to,
- 7:12you know, secretly bias the model. But this all
- 7:14connects back to that macro hard concept, doesn't
- 7:17it? If we are moving toward a world where AI
- 7:19agents run companies, the ability to see the
- 7:23system prompts, the rules they follow, is going
- 7:26to be critical. That's a great point. It's not
- 7:28just about chat bot bias anymore. It's about
- 7:30corporate governance. If an AI is negotiating
- 7:33a contract, you have to know what its hidden
- 7:35instructions are. Right. Transparency isn't just
- 7:38a PR move. It might be the only way we can trust
- 7:41these systems to run the infrastructure of our
- 7:44lives. Exactly. It just highlights how difficult
- 7:46it is to control these massive systems as they
- 7:48scale. When you merge space travel, social media,
- 7:52and advanced AI all under one roof, the complexity
- 7:55of maintaining Seishi protocols is just immense.
- 7:58It really is. And while XAI is busy reorganizing
- 8:02and putting out fires, the competition across
- 8:04the Pacific is not slowing down. In fact, they
- 8:07seem to be hitting the gas. That brings us right
- 8:09to our second story. Thursday, February 12th
- 8:12today was a massive day for Chinese AI stocks.
- 8:15We saw this huge rally driven by some really
- 8:18impressive new model releases. The numbers are
- 8:20just popping. We saw a company called Zipoo AI
- 8:23surge nearly 30 percent. So for listeners who
- 8:25might not follow the Chinese market that closely,
- 8:28what did Zipoo drop to get that kind of reaction?
- 8:30They released a model called GLM5. It's open
- 8:33source, which is key. And they're claiming this
- 8:36model approaches the capabilities of Anthropix
- 8:38Claude Opus 4 .5. Okay. And that it actually
- 8:41beats Google's Gemini 3 Pro in certain benchmarks.
- 8:45Oh, okay. Let's pause there. Holding your own
- 8:49against Claude Opus and beating a Gemini Pro
- 8:51model? That is not minor league stuff. No. That's
- 8:55legitimate global competition. It really challenges
- 8:58the whole narrative we've been hearing for the
- 8:59last two years. The idea that US export controls
- 9:02on high -end GPUs, you know, blocking the sale
- 9:05of the H100s and Blackwell chips, that that would
- 9:08strangle Chinese model development. The compute
- 9:11mode. The idea that if they don't have the hardware,
- 9:13they can't build the software. Exactly. But GLM5
- 9:16suggests they've optimized their architecture.
- 9:18probably through aggressive mixture of experts'
- 9:20techniques to get flagship performance out of
- 9:23restricted hardware. So the moat might just be
- 9:25an illusion, or at least it's a lot shallower
- 9:27than we thought. It looks that way, and it wasn't
- 9:29just Zipoo. Another company, Minimax, saw their
- 9:32stock jump almost 14%. Minimax? Sounds like a
- 9:36comic book villain, but I assume they're doing
- 9:38something productive. They are. They released
- 9:40the M2 .5 model, which is specifically focused
- 9:43on coding and agentic workflows. There's that
- 9:46word again, agents. It really seems to be the
- 9:49theme of 2026. Everyone wants AI that does things,
- 9:53not just talks about things. Precisely. And the
- 9:56market is rewarding companies that are moving
- 9:58from chat bots to problem solvers. We also saw
- 10:01SenseTime up nearly 7%. And Ant Group released
- 10:05a new multimodal model called Ming Flash Omni
- 10:092 .0. And what does that do? It handles speech,
- 10:12music, and visuals all at once. So what does
- 10:14this all mean for the average person listening?
- 10:16Why should they care if Zipoo AI is up 30 %?
- 10:19It matters because we're in a global innovation
- 10:21race. This competition, it just drives the speed
- 10:24of development. If Chinese companies are releasing
- 10:26open source models that rival Google and Anthropic,
- 10:30it forces the US giants to move even faster.
- 10:32It also complicates the whole geopolitical landscape.
- 10:35If the US strategy of hardware containment isn't
- 10:38working, what's the next move? Do we see, like,
- 10:40Tighter software restrictions? That's the big
- 10:42question. It's not just a Silicon Valley game
- 10:44anymore. The playing field is global, and the
- 10:47other players are getting very strong, very fast.
- 10:49And speaking of playing, let's switch gears to
- 10:52something a little more fun. Our third story
- 10:55is about how you play video games in your living
- 10:57room. Yes. Finally, some good news from my wallet.
- 11:01Nvidia and Amazon have teamed up to make high
- 11:04-end gaming a whole lot easier. They have. Nvidia
- 11:07has officially launched a native GeForce Now
- 11:10app for select Amazon Fire TV sticks. Now, for
- 11:14anyone who considers themselves a power user,
- 11:17you might be thinking, wait, couldn't I already
- 11:19do this? And technically, yes. But you had to
- 11:22do something called sideloading. You had to basically
- 11:25trick the Fire Stick into installing an app it
- 11:27wasn't supposed to have. And let's be honest,
- 11:29sideloading is a pain. It's so clunky, the menus
- 11:31don't scale right, and half the time an update
- 11:34just breaks the whole installation. But the real
- 11:36issue with sideloading on a streaming stick is
- 11:38the Bluetooth stack. Right. When you run a non
- 11:41-native app, the input lag from your controller
- 11:43can be just brutal. You press jump, and half
- 11:46a second later your character jumps. In a game
- 11:48like Street Fighter, that's just unplayable.
- 11:50Exactly. A native app means it's optimized for
- 11:53the hardware. It handles the controller inputs
- 11:55directly. So what they're doing is creating a
- 11:58seamless bridge between your PC gaming library
- 12:01and your living room TV. So what are the specs?
- 12:05Are we getting like full 4k 120 frames per second
- 12:09on a $50 stick? Not quite. There are hardware
- 12:12limitations on the stick itself. The app supports
- 12:15up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second.
- 12:18Which, honestly, for most people playing on a
- 12:20TV from the couch is perfectly fine. It is. I
- 12:22think we all get obsessed with 4K or nothing,
- 12:25but a crisp 1080p stream with low latency beats
- 12:28a laggy 4K stream any day of the week. Agreed.
- 12:31And the point is, it just works. You connect
- 12:33a Bluetooth controller and suddenly you're playing
- 12:35Kingdom Come, Deliverance without a console.
- 12:38And they added some new games to the library
- 12:39this week, too, didn't they? They did. You mentioned
- 12:42Kingdom Come, Deliverance, which is a massive
- 12:44RPG. They also added Re -Animal, which looks...
- 12:48terrifyingly cute. Mega Man 11 and the Street
- 12:51Fighter 30th anniversary collection. Mega Man
- 12:5411. Now we're talking. I just love that gaming
- 12:58is becoming. Hardware agnostic. That's the real
- 13:01takeaway here. We are moving away from the era
- 13:04where you need a $500 console or a $2 ,000 PC
- 13:08to play the best games. Now you just need a good
- 13:10internet connection and a fire stick. It really
- 13:13democratizes access. Families can play these
- 13:15top tier games without that huge upfront investment.
- 13:18Although you do still need good internet. True.
- 13:21If your Wi -Fi is spotty, cloud gaming is still
- 13:24just a buffering nightmare. The internet is the
- 13:26console future. only works if the pipes are big
- 13:29enough. But infrastructure is improving every
- 13:31day. This is clearly where the industry is heading.
- 13:34So to recap our morning, Elon Musk is trying
- 13:36to simulate entire companies with macro hard
- 13:38while dealing with a staff exodus. China's AI
- 13:41market is surging with tools that rival the best
- 13:44in the West, proving that hardware mode might
- 13:46be leaking. And NVIDIA is turning your fire stick
- 13:49into a high -end gaming PC. It's a lot to take
- 13:52in. It really feels like the pace of technology
- 13:54is just accelerating every single week. It really
- 13:57does. And keeping up with that pace requires
- 13:59good footing, which is, it's the terrible segue,
- 14:03but I'm going to make it anyway. I want to talk
- 14:05about our other sponsor today, SCONI. That's
- 14:08pronounced S -K -O -N -N -I. If you are a golfer,
- 14:12or even if you just like looking good while walking
- 14:14around on grass, you really need to check them
- 14:16out. I actually have a pair of these. They are
- 14:18incredibly comfortable. Skone is a premium golf
- 14:21shoe store, and they just nail that balance between
- 14:24performance and style. Right. You don't feel
- 14:26like you're wearing clunky equipment. No, you
- 14:28just feel like you're wearing great shoes. Exactly.
- 14:31And we've got a hookup for you. If you go to
- 14:33scony .com slash tae, and I only have to say
- 14:36that website once because it's so easy to remember,
- 14:39you can use the promo code SNARFL at checkout.
- 14:41And that will get you 15 % off your entire purchase.
- 14:44So grab some strong coffee, put on your sconies,
- 14:47and go dominate your day. There it is, the recipe
- 14:49for success. Before we sign off, I just want
- 14:52to circle back to that macro hard idea one last
- 14:55time. It's so easy to laugh at the name, but
- 14:57think about the implications. If we truly are
- 15:00moving toward corporate emulation, the economy
- 15:04is going to look very, very different in five
- 15:06years. It is. We're going to have to completely
- 15:08redefine what work even looks like when the management
- 15:11is just code. It's going to be a wild year. Well,
- 15:15we will be here to track it all with you. Thanks
- 15:17for tuning in to Connecting the Dots. We're here
- 15:19to help at SNARFL, so reach out on our website
- 15:21if you have any more questions. That's a wrap
- 15:27on today's top stories. Remember, tech doesn't
- 15:30have to be complicated, and we're here to help
- 15:32connect the dots. If you've got questions or
- 15:35want to learn more, visit us at snarful .com.
- 15:38Thanks for listening, and we'll catch you next
