- 1:08Speaker 1: just next cast I gotta bring up is a long
- 1:10Speaker 1: time relationship, go all with twenty five years at least.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Let me tell you something about this fellow. I booked
- 1:16Speaker 1: him as one of my headlines at the hip hop
- 1:19Speaker 1: com just stopped back in the day. Now he's a
- 1:21Speaker 1: stand up comedy god man, oh man, oh man. You know.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I like him because he's an entertainer, a businessman, and
- 1:29Speaker 1: he cares about the health and the welfare of his fans.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Please work with the money making conversations. Cedric the entertainer
- 1:37Speaker 1: was uh, hey, Cedric, I love you, man. I I
- 1:41Speaker 1: gotta say that. I love you, dude, I love you too, right, Rich,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I love you too, man. You know that that's true.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I was just thinking about that. You know, you've been
- 1:49Speaker 1: doing business for a long time. Man. Just bring me
- 1:51Speaker 1: down to Houston back in the day, and then you know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: steady progress and from all he shows you produce and everything. Man,
- 1:58Speaker 1: So uh, this is good. It's good to have a
- 2:00Speaker 1: money making conversation with somebody that makes money. Well, you know.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You know the great thing about et Centric is that
- 2:08Speaker 1: that's why that's that's when we all evolved to you know,
- 2:12Speaker 1: we started this business just being funny and then then
- 2:15Speaker 1: we realized we want longevity and that's what that's the
- 2:18Speaker 1: evolution of money making conversations. So when I invite you
- 2:21Speaker 1: guys on the show, it's just talk about what you're
- 2:23Speaker 1: doing now, but also what your careers like, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: what's outside of that umbrella, because people always know that
- 2:28Speaker 1: you're entertaining, but you're doing things. And the thing I
- 2:31Speaker 1: loved about you most man, is that you have a voice. Man,
- 2:35Speaker 1: if something in the community is not right, you react
- 2:37Speaker 1: to it. Why is that? You know, It's just Uh,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I grew up a single parent household man. My mother
- 2:43Speaker 1: was a school teacher, and you know, being that uh
- 2:47Speaker 1: you know that kind of personality that you know, cared
- 2:49Speaker 1: about others. Uh, it just was something that for me,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I guess being the mail of the house, I always
- 2:55Speaker 1: had to feel like I had to kind of stand
- 2:57Speaker 1: up for you, you know, my mom and my sister
- 2:59Speaker 1: and us when there's something that's kind of thing, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: like I say, uh, when things go a little a
- 3:04Speaker 1: little ride, you just have to use your voice to
- 3:06Speaker 1: calvinize people and say, look, man, let's put a light
- 3:09Speaker 1: on this. And so those are the kind of things
- 3:12Speaker 1: that you know, usually inspire me. And when I'm inspired,
- 3:14Speaker 1: I'll just I'll just react, man, I just get involved.
- 3:18Speaker 1: But you know something a lot of people don't, and uh,
- 3:20Speaker 1: because they worried about their career. They worry about ticket sales,
- 3:23Speaker 1: they worry about all these days. I know we all
- 3:25Speaker 1: worry about it. Don't get me wrong. Don't get wrong,
- 3:27Speaker 1: we all worry about that. But yeah, I think it's
- 3:28Speaker 1: important to have a voice and that that's why I
- 3:30Speaker 1: commend you. Man. I really respect you for doing what
- 3:32Speaker 1: you do. You definitely got to look at the greater good.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I mean, of course, you know, everybody can be concerned
- 3:37Speaker 1: in one little false move out in this business, can
- 3:40Speaker 1: you know, put you in the inspiral especially you know, uh,
- 3:43Speaker 1: if you're African American. You know what I'm saying. It's
- 3:45Speaker 1: hard for people that actually understand your your visceral attitude aggressive,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So you know, you know
- 3:53Speaker 1: you can come off too aggressive. You I've always, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: been one of those people that everybody you know, you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: has A. You know that that kind of ideal ideology
- 4:01Speaker 1: that I'm a good guy. So usually you know, I'm
- 4:03Speaker 1: not coming from a bad place. And even if I am,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you know, serious and serious about something, it's not that
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's all all one sided or I hadn't been thought
- 4:12Speaker 1: about it in some kind of subjective manner. You know.
- 4:14Speaker 1: The amazing thing about your career, Cedric and we you
- 4:16Speaker 1: know you let me just kick it out the way
- 4:18Speaker 1: from Mala kills me. You know, Superior Donuts will be
- 4:21Speaker 1: airing tonight, Superior Donuts sitcom. You'll be starting it in
- 4:26Speaker 1: CBS because you know, if I don't say that, Maula
- 4:28Speaker 1: is gonna kill me. So tell us about your role
- 4:29Speaker 1: of Superior Dontors, which airs tonight, which is made first tonight. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 1: Superior Donuts is a hot little sit comments on CBS
- 4:37Speaker 1: right now. Jermaine Filer. Follower is a young comedian who's
- 4:41Speaker 1: the lead on the show. And uh, he's a strange
- 4:44Speaker 1: from his father and I played it. I played his
- 4:46Speaker 1: dad who he's a young guy that is there, wants
- 4:49Speaker 1: to be an artist and one that is more of
- 4:52Speaker 1: the old school, you know, go to go to go
- 4:54Speaker 1: to college, get your work, and so I come on it,
- 4:56Speaker 1: and you know, and you know, I'm trying to you know, uh,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm trying to discourage him from going into
- 5:02Speaker 1: this art world. You know, but he's he's pretty decent,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and so you know, I come to you know, I
- 5:07Speaker 1: understand them a little more. So it was a great episode,
- 5:10Speaker 1: and uh, you know, I'll probably be reoccurring on there.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It's fun. It was fun to do so many great
- 5:13Speaker 1: people on this show. Jud Hirsch. Uh yes, but let
- 5:19Speaker 1: me tell you, this isn't that your life though? Education
- 5:22Speaker 1: and then you went into the entertainment business. Yeah. Yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I was like, he's, like I said, my mother was
- 5:28Speaker 1: a school teacher. I went and I substituted for a while.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I television, but I satituted for a while, and then uh,
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know, and then I got into the corporate world.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I did uh, you know, State Farm insurance and did
- 5:42Speaker 1: Reco corporation, so Factor machines, you know, all the all
- 5:47Speaker 1: the things you gotta do and get your hustle on,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and then you know, and then started doing stand up
- 5:51Speaker 1: around the same time I started doing State Farm. So
- 5:54Speaker 1: I would just do my shows late at night and
- 5:56Speaker 1: I worked the next day. And then you. Then I
- 5:59Speaker 1: fly you out to Houston, you know, on Software's airline ticket,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and you're blowing up and go, wow, this is crazy.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Now you got another another project that you're doing with
- 6:09Speaker 1: Tracy Morgan. It's gonna He's a TBS comedy series. Tell
- 6:12Speaker 1: us about that, because what I want to know is that,
- 6:13Speaker 1: like I said, this is money making conversations, and Centric
- 6:16Speaker 1: gets money making conversations. Tell us about that. Yeah, yeah, man.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Tracy Morgan is uh, you know, he was developing the
- 6:24Speaker 1: show and then uh so I came a part of that,
- 6:27Speaker 1: and uh uh it's gonna be great. It's called The
- 6:30Speaker 1: o G It's gonna be on TVs. Uh you know,
- 6:32Speaker 1: Tracy is is a guy who's you know, wayward in
- 6:36Speaker 1: his earlier life. And he goes and get he does
- 6:38Speaker 1: fifteen years and he gets out. He's trying to sign
- 6:41Speaker 1: his his girl that he loves, Ride and Dot Chick,
- 6:43Speaker 1: and she's changed her life. She's more corporate now married
- 6:47Speaker 1: to a white guy. She's had time that twins that
- 6:51Speaker 1: was that were Tracy's that he never seen. And then
- 6:54Speaker 1: I played the guy that owns the halfway house that
- 6:57Speaker 1: he lives in and we become fast friends. I gotta
- 7:00Speaker 1: them to the Internet and all these other stuff and
- 7:02Speaker 1: so it's, uh, it's a fun world man. Of you
- 7:05Speaker 1: know that Tracy Morgan kind of humoring me as as
- 7:09Speaker 1: as his partner. Right, I was showing your Netflix special
- 7:13Speaker 1: that you air that, Uh that did so well on Netflix.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Where are we're talking on social media? That's a So
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's all kind of things. Technology allows you to do
- 7:20Speaker 1: everything nowadays. Now that Netflick special did fantastic. Man. I remember,
- 7:26Speaker 1: I feel good because you know, I feel I helped
- 7:28Speaker 1: promote it, you know, get some eyeballs on that. So
- 7:30Speaker 1: tell us about that Netflix special. Yeah, man, you know
- 7:34Speaker 1: it was my first special. Uh. I did one for
- 7:37Speaker 1: HBO and two thou ten and so this was the
- 7:40Speaker 1: one that I hadn't done a special in a while. Man,
- 7:42Speaker 1: So it was great to have that experience. Netflix is
- 7:45Speaker 1: that new place where you kind of go, you think
- 7:46Speaker 1: it's crazy, let's get click. Wow, it's it's crazy, isn't
- 7:50Speaker 1: now they're doing it? Man? Yeah, it was. It totally
- 7:53Speaker 1: came you know, you know, it totally came out of nowhere,
- 7:55Speaker 1: you know where uh, you know, their business of people
- 7:58Speaker 1: just clicking on and watching it when they want to
- 8:00Speaker 1: it So what's great about that is that you get
- 8:02Speaker 1: new audience all the time, so you know people have
- 8:04Speaker 1: seen it. It was, it was super popular, and then
- 8:07Speaker 1: you still have an upward click, like I mean it
- 8:09Speaker 1: got hot again right like a month ago. It's like
- 8:12Speaker 1: fired back up. But let's get it hot now. If
- 8:14Speaker 1: you have not seen Cedric's commed especial on Netflix, tune in.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Tune in right now, check it out. Yeah, live from
- 8:22Speaker 1: the Vil, check that out. Though. Definitely it's one of
- 8:25Speaker 1: the hot it really was. And that's what you know, Like,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm a Netflix fan and so and it's one of
- 8:29Speaker 1: the reasons why I got into talking this radio show
- 8:32Speaker 1: because I think it's the next evolution because you're streaming
- 8:35Speaker 1: this show out. It's more important to streaming out of
- 8:37Speaker 1: this show than where I'm where I'm producing this show,
- 8:40Speaker 1: because that's the next set of eyeballs is out there
- 8:42Speaker 1: because now the show was being seen worldwide. And I
- 8:45Speaker 1: think that that's what Netflix that was, that's what they
- 8:47Speaker 1: created with the whole streaming process. And so when I
- 8:51Speaker 1: look at your career and I look at you know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: the little barbershop, would you say, what what you think
- 8:57Speaker 1: did you the biggest the super Bowl commercials on the Barbershop,
- 9:01Speaker 1: which which was more instrumental in that direction, just rocketing
- 9:04Speaker 1: you to superstar him, you know, I mean the combination.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Of course, the Barbershop movie was a surprise, and the
- 9:11Speaker 1: original Kids of Comedy was even more more surprised and
- 9:15Speaker 1: showed up on the box office in a way that
- 9:18Speaker 1: didn't uh, nobody thought like this movie was gonna do well.
- 9:21Speaker 1: This this kind of like four black comedians and so
- 9:25Speaker 1: uh but then Barbershop was big, and you can't really
- 9:28Speaker 1: top the super Bowl commercial. I mean that fact got
- 9:30Speaker 1: over post to a million people watching you on one day.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And then you know, my first one that I did,
- 9:36Speaker 1: it actually won, so it was the number one and brother,
- 9:39Speaker 1: that was a cold one right there. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and which you know, it led to a great relationship.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You know, be coming from St. Louis and An has
- 9:48Speaker 1: a bullsh At the time, it was a big St.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Louis company, and so uh, you know, I did the tour.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I was able to take young comedians out with the
- 9:54Speaker 1: tour and there's several commercials with them. So man, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: that's just that's again a good business and taking advantage
- 10:02Speaker 1: of the opportunities that's in front of you now this
- 10:04Speaker 1: second way to a tour, to get down tour, tell
- 10:08Speaker 1: us about that. Still man, we still out doing Arenas
- 10:12Speaker 1: Man with the stories Arenas ma Arenas. That's crazy man,
- 10:17Speaker 1: when our brothers Charlie Murphy Charlie Man. But it was
- 10:20Speaker 1: a legendary, uh figure man. And but you know, to
- 10:24Speaker 1: do Arenas Man at this stage in your career is
- 10:27Speaker 1: always Man, it's uh, it's just wonderful. Mandl Hughley, George Lopez.
- 10:34Speaker 1: We are there any man doing it, man doing it.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So so when you look at that, and when you
- 10:38Speaker 1: look at that, you're doing the Arenas you know, got
- 10:41Speaker 1: the sitcom coming up with Tracy Morgan. You're appearing tonight
- 10:44Speaker 1: on Superior Nuts and you know the specials Hot again

- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, other big live deals and makes digital deals
- 11:24Speaker 1: go about. You know, all of these things are you
