Nebraska is ditching its soda and energy drink ban for SNAP benefits, thanks to a federal judge’s June ruling that says the government can’t block sugary drinks and candy from being purchased with food stamps. The state, which had enforced the ban since January, now must update store systems to remove restrictions — a process that won’t happen overnight.
