0:07
Speaker 1: has the secrets of success experience firsthand by marketing and
0:10
Speaker 1: Brandon expert Rashaan McDonald. I will know he's giving me
0:13
Speaker 1: advice to many occasions. In occasion and notice, I'm not broke.
0:17
Speaker 1: You know, he'll be interviewing celebrity CEOs and entrepreneurs and
0:20
Speaker 1: industry decision makers. It's what he likes to do, it's
0:22
Speaker 1: what he likes to share. Now it's time to hear
0:25
Speaker 1: from my man, Rashaan McDonald money Making Conversations. Here we go.
0:29
Speaker 1: Welcome to Money Making Conversation Masterclass. I'm your host, Rashaan McDonald.
0:33
Speaker 1: I want to hear from you today. I recognize that
0:36
Speaker 1: we all have different definitions of success. For you, it
0:39
Speaker 1: may be the size of your paycheck. Mine has inspired
0:42
Speaker 1: you to accomplish your goals and live your very best life.
0:45
Speaker 1: It's time to stop reading other people's success stories and
0:48
Speaker 1: start writing your own. People always talk about that purpose
0:51
Speaker 1: or gift. If you have a gift, lead with your
0:53
Speaker 1: gifts and don't let your friends, family, or co workers
0:55
Speaker 1: stop you from planning or living your dreams. We will
0:58
Speaker 1: be discussing how to overcome the in life. My guests
1:01
Speaker 1: on the show today represent people who did not let
1:03
Speaker 1: stereotypes stopped them from pursuing their dreams. One is a
1:07
Speaker 1: rising Hollywood actress on the hit comedy series Harlem. The
1:10
Speaker 1: show streams on the Amazon Prime network. And my other
1:13
Speaker 1: guests went from directing rap videos to now becoming a
1:17
Speaker 1: university professor. They're making a difference in Black Hollywood. Our
1:21
Speaker 1: theme today is that there is no perfect time to
1:23
Speaker 1: start following your dreams. We found him. He's here and
1:27
Speaker 1: this is an old friend, Greg Carter. I'm gonna start
1:30
Speaker 1: throw his name out now because this show also aris
1:33
Speaker 1: in Houston, Texas. Okay, so I say Greg cart in Houston, Texas.
1:36
Speaker 1: A lot of people are gonna come close to the radio. Oh,
1:39
Speaker 1: gred He's a native of Houston, a graduate of Texas
1:42
Speaker 1: and m So. He born in Bread which is school
1:44
Speaker 1: born there, went to college there. It also produces a
1:47
Speaker 1: very popular TV series in the city of Houston called
1:51
Speaker 1: Fifth Ward. The airs on the Urban Movie Channel. When
1:54
Speaker 1: I first met Gregg, he was one of the rising
1:56
Speaker 1: rap directors in the city of Houston, Texas. I mean,
1:58
Speaker 1: that's that's the early stage of rapper to get old
2:00
Speaker 1: boars out there, my mind playing tricks on you. You
2:03
Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Bushwick Bill that was back in
2:04
Speaker 1: the day part. But life is about the justin and
2:07
Speaker 1: growing your brand. He is still directing movies and television
2:10
Speaker 1: series in Hollywood, but he's also teaching students at the
2:13
Speaker 1: University of Houston. Please working to Money Making Conversations Masterclass.
2:17
Speaker 1: Greg Carter, Greg, what's happening? Rich? Thank you for that introduction.
2:22
Speaker 1: I'm so excited to be part of the show and
2:25
Speaker 1: to be back again. And I just enjoy whenever we
2:28
Speaker 1: have a time to sit down and talk about what
2:30
Speaker 1: I'm doing and what's going on in the industry. So
2:33
Speaker 1: so glad to be on this car. Hey, Greg, I
2:35
Speaker 1: want to I want to. I knew we got to
2:36
Speaker 1: go to break in the minute, but before we go
2:37
Speaker 1: to break, I want to talk about the because we
2:40
Speaker 1: know when you and I met, I had a comedy club.
2:42
Speaker 1: I was a rising comedian back in the time this did.
2:46
Speaker 1: I just performed on Deaf Comedy Jam with Dave Chappelle
2:49
Speaker 1: and Martin Lawrence and all that stuff, and you was
2:51
Speaker 1: doing rap videos. That's all I remember. Greg Carter, Greg Carter,
2:54
Speaker 1: Greg Carter, but today, man, I'm looking at you know,
2:58
Speaker 1: take Off. He was just recently murdered in the city
3:01
Speaker 1: of Houston. Nipsey Nipsey Hustle. You know. The person who
3:05
Speaker 1: killed him, I think got sentenced to sixty years. And
3:08
Speaker 1: we can go further back in the Tupac and go
3:10
Speaker 1: back to a Biggie Small. But there has been a
3:13
Speaker 1: rash of hip hop violence and being a guy who
3:17
Speaker 1: who in the early nineties was right in the footprint
3:21
Speaker 1: of it, you know, out there late at nights seeing
3:23
Speaker 1: this lifestyle, or have you been able to conceptualize what
3:27
Speaker 1: was really going on or just you just you just
3:29
Speaker 1: throw your hands up and go, man, I don't know
3:31
Speaker 1: what's happening. Well, you know, it's funny because the stuff
3:35
Speaker 1: that happened back in the nineties is really about the
3:38
Speaker 1: things that were going down between the labels. I mean,
3:41
Speaker 1: the quote unquote violence black on black violence within the
3:46
Speaker 1: hip hop game was really between the East and West
3:49
Speaker 1: coast or south. You know, it was normally to find
3:52
Speaker 1: our region or record label that had to be for
3:54
Speaker 1: another label. Right. These random acts of violence, as you
3:58
Speaker 1: want to call it, are just really a lot of
4:01
Speaker 1: it is between people who are looking for cloud, because
4:06
Speaker 1: if I can shoot this rapper, if I can hurt
4:08
Speaker 1: this individual, it makes me seem like a bigger person.
4:12
Speaker 1: I have bigger stature. Uh. And there's still some things
4:15
Speaker 1: that happened between different artists are different camps and or defense.
4:19
Speaker 1: But you know, that's the thing. It seems like there
4:22
Speaker 1: has been we have kind of digressed a little bit
4:26
Speaker 1: about you know, when it comes to trying to lift
4:29
Speaker 1: each other up and trying to solve problems without necessarily
4:32
Speaker 1: those problems ending up in debt. I think it's uh.
4:38
Speaker 1: And it's not systemic to just hip hop too it.
4:41
Speaker 1: You know, the young brother at a at Alabama who
4:45
Speaker 1: playing basketball there the fact that he couldn't you know,
4:49
Speaker 1: he can't accept rejection from a young lady. He had
4:52
Speaker 1: to do something that was you know, crazy and commit murders.
4:57
Speaker 1: So these are these are the things that I think
4:59
Speaker 1: that I happen to be because you know, social media
5:02
Speaker 1: has made it so important that you keep an image
5:05
Speaker 1: more so than show character when it comes to being
5:11
Speaker 1: under fire and so uh, and we're all gonna be
5:14
Speaker 1: on the fire one way or another, and some things
5:16
Speaker 1: they're not going to go your way, but you have
5:18
Speaker 1: to be able to have the character to stand in
5:20
Speaker 1: yourself and not try to react with something that the
5:24
Speaker 1: shows shows that you you you you don't have control
5:28
Speaker 1: of your your faculties. And that's the real sad thing.
5:31
Speaker 1: We've lost a generation being in to control their faculties.
5:35
Speaker 1: You know, we would have you know, we'd have those
5:37
Speaker 1: situations where we get into a fight, but we wouldn't
5:40
Speaker 1: go think I got to go get a gun and
5:41
Speaker 1: sell it that way. Right, I'm talking to Great Carter,
5:44
Speaker 1: one of the top directors in Hollywood, Houston native. Like
5:47
Speaker 1: I said, our relationship goes back to the early nineties
5:50
Speaker 1: when he was doing hip hop videos and I was
5:52
Speaker 1: a rising starting the comedy scene. We'll were right back,
5:55
Speaker 1: talk about this filth Forwards series, which has been renewed,
5:58
Speaker 1: talk about his upcoming projects from movie projects. Also, he's
6:01
Speaker 1: a teacher. He's a teacher. He's also doing that at
6:05
Speaker 1: the Universe Houston. Guess who graduated from Universe using idea,
6:08
Speaker 1: Guess who graduated from Texas and m he did be
6:10
Speaker 1: right back when More Money to Make Conversations masterclass, you
6:15
Speaker 1: are now tuned into the money making conversations. Minute of
6:18
Speaker 1: Inspiration with Rashaan McDonald. Hi Rashan McDonald for Money Making Conversations, Masterclass,
6:23
Speaker 1: Weeacher Daily Minute of Inspiration. This week, I sat down
6:26
Speaker 1: with the host of the History Channel series Adams Eat
6:29
Speaker 1: the Eighties, food author and culinary entrepreneur Adam Richmond. He
6:34
Speaker 1: talks about the importance of getting familiar with success, but
6:37
Speaker 1: also getting familiar with the steps necessary to get there.
6:41
Speaker 1: Bill Maher once said, we live in a guitar hero
6:43
Speaker 1: culture where everybody wants to play the solo, but nobody
6:46
Speaker 1: wants to learn the chords. Yes, and I think that
6:50
Speaker 1: these are people that spend time in the trenches and
6:54
Speaker 1: you don't realize how much sweat equity. You know, people
6:57
Speaker 1: hear about the success, but they don't really pay attention
7:00
Speaker 1: to what it to to get there. And I think
7:05
Speaker 1: that that's that's the coolest part. If you want to
7:09
Speaker 1: listen to this full interview with Ada Richmond, it's available
7:11
Speaker 1: on Mortymaking Conversation dot com. Speaking to Greg Carter, a
7:16
Speaker 1: good friend, good friend, UM, knowing him in the business
7:19
Speaker 1: as a director known this the business, a writer, a producer. UM.
7:23
Speaker 1: A lot of your projects don't have the massive budgets
7:26
Speaker 1: tied to them, whether it's a television series or as
7:30
Speaker 1: a movie series. How do you sit down and and
7:33
Speaker 1: and apply budget to the project that you're trying to do?
7:36
Speaker 1: Greg Carter, Well, I think a lot of times what
7:39
Speaker 1: I try to do is coming from the standpoint of
7:43
Speaker 1: where can I get the biggest bang for my buck.
7:45
Speaker 1: I don't try to dial back on what I envisioned
7:49
Speaker 1: as part of the story, but I just try to
7:52
Speaker 1: find a place in people around me who can believe
7:57
Speaker 1: in what I'm trying to do and all the local
8:00
Speaker 1: locations where it works for the context of how much
8:02
Speaker 1: money we have to spend and push through from there.
8:05
Speaker 1: I've been very lucky and blessed that Houston is my hometown,
8:09
Speaker 1: and my hometown represents all the time when I'm looking
8:12
Speaker 1: for people to be in front of the camera, but
8:15
Speaker 1: also looking for people who are going to be behind
8:17
Speaker 1: the camera to help them make the movies and and
8:20
Speaker 1: and that's that's where I draw my put my my
8:25
Speaker 1: flag in the sand, which is, you know, trying to
8:27
Speaker 1: try to find a place where you're going to get
8:30
Speaker 1: the support and not all times you're going to find
8:33
Speaker 1: people who want to see your vision or where you do,
8:35
Speaker 1: but most importantly, if you can if you can find
8:39
Speaker 1: that place, that hometown where they got, where they got
8:42
Speaker 1: supporting love for you. That's a big part of making
8:45
Speaker 1: any budget work. But other than that, you know, you're
8:48
Speaker 1: trying to work within the confines of the of the
8:50
Speaker 1: unions like SAG and whatnot, and trying to figure out
8:53
Speaker 1: things to make it most cost effective. Maybe you you
8:57
Speaker 1: try to make sure your locations. Look, I have a fattist,
9:01
Speaker 1: but the script you want to shoot, you know, don't
9:03
Speaker 1: have a hundred locations in it right right? And also
9:06
Speaker 1: short the production window as well really helps out as well.
9:09
Speaker 1: Exactly when you look at what you're doing, like you
9:12
Speaker 1: have the fifth Ward series and then you have this
9:15
Speaker 1: hip hop Christmas series it comes about, and so that
9:18
Speaker 1: allows you to how has that affected your career? It
9:23
Speaker 1: made you feel take a deep breath because you have
9:26
Speaker 1: upcoming projects that you can count on, or it gives
9:29
Speaker 1: your resume that allows you to go out and get
9:31
Speaker 1: other projects. Well, I would say to any young person
9:37
Speaker 1: I teach. You mentioned that I teach at university. You
9:40
Speaker 1: see you're Alalatta, so I'm a professor there. I would
9:45
Speaker 1: say that the one thing that I try to do
9:48
Speaker 1: take my foot off the gas pedal always can continually
9:52
Speaker 1: feeling like, you know, I've got to be making sure
9:55
Speaker 1: that the job that I'm looking for is not one
9:58
Speaker 1: that I'm just dreaming about. But whatever I go wants
10:00
Speaker 1: to get to it and make it happen. I say
10:03
Speaker 1: to myself, I want to do Marvel movies. I say
10:06
Speaker 1: to myself, I want to you know, win an Oscar.
10:10
Speaker 1: But I also know that that saying it and having
10:13
Speaker 1: a dream is one thing. You have to have goals
10:15
Speaker 1: and try to work toward that. So I've been very
10:17
Speaker 1: blessed and lucky to work with my good friend at
10:20
Speaker 1: Torry Turner and Jamie Foxx movies with Vacom, CBS and
10:26
Speaker 1: to that extent MTV. I've had growing up for partnerships
10:29
Speaker 1: with people like uh Brett Dismuch and All Black, and
10:32
Speaker 1: you know, with my TV series fifth Ward, and you know,
10:35
Speaker 1: as I get ready to maybe move and do and
10:38
Speaker 1: do series do a season three and four that's come
10:42
Speaker 1: to fruition as well as as well as the other
10:45
Speaker 1: stuff I'm developing, I've worked very hard to have the
10:50
Speaker 1: opportunity to have a voice, a seat at the table,
10:54
Speaker 1: and I think that's what you hope to have. You know,
10:57
Speaker 1: nothing is guaranteed and show business. There's always an opportunity,
11:03
Speaker 1: but you have to really go and drill and do
11:05
Speaker 1: the work to make that opportunity to come to fruition.
11:08
Speaker 1: And So another project I've been wanting to do for
11:11
Speaker 1: a long time is people don't realize that slavery was
11:14
Speaker 1: abolished twice in the state of Texas. Abraham Abraham Lincoln
11:20
Speaker 1: aboliship but people don't realize that Texas had slavery abolished
11:25
Speaker 1: first by a black man. Texas was part of Mexico
11:33
Speaker 1: and Mexico Mexican president. He was the first black president
11:37
Speaker 1: in North America before Barack Obama. Limb was Vincenta Guerrero.
11:41
Speaker 1: He was president of Mexico and he was the second
11:45
Speaker 1: president of Mexico, and he basically abolished slavery in Mexico,
11:49
Speaker 1: which included at that time Texas. And that story was
11:52
Speaker 1: passed down to me by my relatives who lived in
11:56
Speaker 1: East Texas Cherokee County, East Texas, of how we had
12:00
Speaker 1: relatives who were made free and then they became slaves again,
12:06
Speaker 1: and then it was free again, uh, some almost forty
12:09
Speaker 1: years later with Lincoln. So these are things and I
12:12
Speaker 1: try that I relate to uh, that that have that
12:17
Speaker 1: speak to me that I want to be involved in
12:19
Speaker 1: and tell. And so for that it means that I've
12:23
Speaker 1: always I never take my foot off the gas pel,
12:28
Speaker 1: you know, before we are wraptors up and I you know,
12:31
Speaker 1: you're one of my favorite guests. And when you come
12:33
Speaker 1: on and you you articulate what I feel my audience
12:37
Speaker 1: needs to hear a degree of honesty because you've been there,
12:39
Speaker 1: done that when you're talking to students, and I think
12:42
Speaker 1: that's really a blessing that you know, you always want
12:44
Speaker 1: to stay relevant, you want to stay topical walking into
12:47
Speaker 1: classroom and then teaching. Does that help you as a producer,
12:51
Speaker 1: as a writer, as a director, being around young people,
12:53
Speaker 1: articulating conversation back and forth movement with these people, It
12:58
Speaker 1: certainly does, I would blessed. I'm one of those guys
13:02
Speaker 1: that started working on My Doctors seventeen years ago and
13:06
Speaker 1: it took me just until last year to finish. But
13:09
Speaker 1: I was working at You of Age starting at the
13:11
Speaker 1: beginning of around the beginning of the pandemic teaching, and
13:15
Speaker 1: so I just for me trying to show my journey
13:20
Speaker 1: has never been just about me. My journey has been
13:23
Speaker 1: about trying to help and up left others, whether it's
13:26
Speaker 1: people who work on my film set or in this case, students,
13:29
Speaker 1: and get them the real information they need to go
13:32
Speaker 1: out there and be successful. I told my students, I'm
13:35
Speaker 1: not going to be satisfied until they can walk into
13:39
Speaker 1: any situation and know that they can handle it. Whether
13:42
Speaker 1: they're going to be a writer, director, or producer, they
13:44
Speaker 1: can have those skill sets. And I want to try
13:46
Speaker 1: to build a film program at the University of Houston
13:49
Speaker 1: that is on par with usc UCLA, a FI and
13:52
Speaker 1: to school back in New York. So these are the
13:55
Speaker 1: things that I you know, you know, what are the
13:58
Speaker 1: things that you do so masterfully, Rushan is that you
14:01
Speaker 1: paint your legacy so that the world can see it
14:03
Speaker 1: with all the things you've done and the brands that
14:05
Speaker 1: you've helped build. And I just hope to be able
14:08
Speaker 1: to do kind of like you to help build my
14:10
Speaker 1: legacy through through education and upliftic young folks. But also
14:14
Speaker 1: but I continue to make movies that and TV shows
14:17
Speaker 1: that enlightened and entertain So yeah, thank you great for calling.
14:22
Speaker 1: The end of day, we got to get you back
14:24
Speaker 1: because of the fact that you have so much to say,
14:26
Speaker 1: Greg Carter before we wrap up real quick, please kill
14:29
Speaker 1: them how they can reach out to you, Great Carter,
14:30
Speaker 1: And as we close out the show, yeah, please find
14:34
Speaker 1: You can find me on my Instagram, Greg Carter Nexus
14:38
Speaker 1: at Greg Carter Nexus and you can find me at
14:41
Speaker 1: the same hand on Facebook as well. Thank you, sir.
14:44
Speaker 1: We talked soon. I want to thank all the fans
14:45
Speaker 1: who call in on a regular basis of the ones
14:47
Speaker 1: who just listened to the show. This is rus Sean McDonald.
14:50
Speaker 1: Every Tuesday, we'll be here on Money Making Conversation, Domestic
14:52
Speaker 1: Lass and Greg Carter. Thank you for participating this week. Man.
14:55
Speaker 1: I always believe in Yeah, and I trust you deliver
14:58
Speaker 1: the information that my audience w to hear every time
15:01
Speaker 1: you call my show. We're talking soon, Okay, appreciate you.
15:06
Speaker 1: She's on the show to date because she's one of
15:08
Speaker 1: the stars of the Amazon series Hallom Shaniqua Sunday. She
15:14
Speaker 1: is a actress, singer, and up and coming fashion icon
15:18
Speaker 1: from the East Coast who has been graciously sweeping entertainment
15:21
Speaker 1: interest since she was three years old. Three years old,
15:24
Speaker 1: that's when she realized you wanted to be there, do
15:26
Speaker 1: this for a living. Shaniqua's character Angie on the show
15:29
Speaker 1: Harlem has a big, sexy personality and a fashion sense
15:32
Speaker 1: to matchup. I've known because I watched the first season
15:35
Speaker 1: and I've called up on this season, So I am
15:37
Speaker 1: a fan of the show Hallom and the show. Shaniqua's
15:39
Speaker 1: character is always worrying about the series of high fashion looks,
15:42
Speaker 1: who she's dating, whether whether it's the right man in
15:45
Speaker 1: her life. But she breaks these serial type because it's
15:48
Speaker 1: about fashion and love. The show hallms you're not familiar
15:51
Speaker 1: with it shines to spotlight on four girlfriends, Angie who
15:55
Speaker 1: all be interviewing an mini minute Camille played by making Good,
15:58
Speaker 1: Quinn played by Race Buyers, and Ty who plays the
16:02
Speaker 1: Who's played by Jerry Johnson, as they managed their careers
16:05
Speaker 1: and loved lives in New York City. Please welcome to
16:09
Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations master Class for the very first time, Shaniqua, Sunday.
16:13
Speaker 1: How you doing this Sunday? Hey? I am wonderful, Thank you?
16:18
Speaker 1: How are you doing? First of all, where are you
16:20
Speaker 1: calling from? Just just get a base to you know,
16:22
Speaker 1: or you in a weather area that's really heavy snow
16:26
Speaker 1: or is it warm world yet? Right? Now, Shaniqua, I
16:29
Speaker 1: am in a bizarre weather area right now. I'm in
16:33
Speaker 1: LA and we are having a bit of a right
16:36
Speaker 1: but from snow I'm hearing in other parties as well.
16:40
Speaker 1: So global warming is real. Well you know that. There's
16:43
Speaker 1: the funny point about that. I lived in LA for
16:45
Speaker 1: fifteen years, so I never saw snow left living there
16:48
Speaker 1: from nineteen ninety to two thousand, two thousand and five,
16:52
Speaker 1: and so so when I heard that it was snowing,
16:54
Speaker 1: and then a friend of mine sent me some photos
16:57
Speaker 1: of actual snow in the valley and the valley it
17:00
Speaker 1: really is the hottest part of LA. I was like
17:03
Speaker 1: taking it back. So you really are experiencing that the
17:06
Speaker 1: temperatures in the twenties and all these days. Give us
17:09
Speaker 1: some give us your I'm in the bottom half of
17:14
Speaker 1: the valley. It literally maybe twenty minutes from me. If now, wow,
17:19
Speaker 1: because yeah, it's happening out here now. Now, where are
17:22
Speaker 1: you originally from? Shaniquam. I was born in New York
17:27
Speaker 1: and Harlan, but I grew up in Virginia. I grew
17:30
Speaker 1: up in Richmond, Virginia in the eight or four. Okay, cool,
17:33
Speaker 1: well I got I got my youngest brother. He's in
17:35
Speaker 1: the DC Virginia area of Maryland, DC area now and then,
17:38
Speaker 1: so so I traveled there a lot. But I want
17:41
Speaker 1: to get into your life, your story. I always like
17:43
Speaker 1: to slow it down. This is not a show where
17:45
Speaker 1: I get to I show where I wanted to try
17:48
Speaker 1: to ambush little Selasius question. That's not what you shows about.
17:51
Speaker 1: This shows about your career. How did you get started?
17:54
Speaker 1: And also if you can, if you can in part
17:56
Speaker 1: them inspiring, you know, tipbits to tips to people who
18:00
Speaker 1: are listening to my show. So I want to go
18:02
Speaker 1: all the way back to you wanting to be in
18:06
Speaker 1: be in this industry because I always admire people who
18:08
Speaker 1: get it at a young age and then pursue it
18:11
Speaker 1: as a dream. And in your bio I read that
18:14
Speaker 1: at the age of three, this is something that you considered.
18:17
Speaker 1: It was something that was inspiring or just motivated that
18:20
Speaker 1: you wanted to do. Is that correct? Absolutely. I grew
18:25
Speaker 1: up in a household with music and arts and my
18:29
Speaker 1: grand my grandmother is a writer, and we would sing
18:34
Speaker 1: home from the Wiz and Little Mermaid of course right
18:41
Speaker 1: all the time, all the time, And by three years old,
18:46
Speaker 1: I have sawlid in Love with the Tina turn of story,
18:50
Speaker 1: which I was too young to have been watching What's
18:53
Speaker 1: Love Got to Do with It? Way too young? But
18:56
Speaker 1: I performed Proud Mary in a Mall talent show at three. Um.
19:02
Speaker 1: So it's always been the artistry has been. It's the
19:06
Speaker 1: way I communicate. I've always been very very clear as
19:10
Speaker 1: to what I wanted. A dreamer. Somebody say, but we
19:14
Speaker 1: live in another streams now and still got someone to reach. Um. Yeah,
19:18
Speaker 1: artistry was always there, my my grandma, rights, my great grandpa.
19:22
Speaker 1: I played the heart of Monica. Um And I always
19:27
Speaker 1: knew there were other ways to express myself even if
19:30
Speaker 1: I didn't have words. Get something else for me to do,
19:34
Speaker 1: to help, to help stories and to say all that
19:36
Speaker 1: I'm feeling. And art became that. Well, you know, I
19:39
Speaker 1: have to smile to hear a three year old doing
19:42
Speaker 1: Proud Mary. You know, did you have the wig and
19:46
Speaker 1: everything back then? I did not. And I wish I
19:51
Speaker 1: had some video because I would love to see me
19:53
Speaker 1: screaming at three year because that's the one. At three
19:56
Speaker 1: it was full. I was screaming right right, right right,
19:58
Speaker 1: we screaming. I was doing this. But you are actually
20:01
Speaker 1: a talented singer. I read that in your body you
20:04
Speaker 1: have a song that you've just released. Talk about because like,
20:07
Speaker 1: let's talk about the fact that I'm trying to balance
20:09
Speaker 1: because obviously when you came into their business, it was
20:12
Speaker 1: based on your acting. And then when you say you
20:15
Speaker 1: want to do something like become a singer, what do
20:18
Speaker 1: people do? What do you management your agents or people
20:21
Speaker 1: around you. Do they question that or do they say
20:25
Speaker 1: go for it? Or I know you come from a
20:27
Speaker 1: family of talented people, but it's also an also world
20:30
Speaker 1: that you have to deal with people who say, stick
20:33
Speaker 1: to what you're doing, put all your efforts in one basket.
20:36
Speaker 1: Talk to me, that is very much what people say.
20:40
Speaker 1: And it's so surprising when we live in this like era,
20:45
Speaker 1: or at least within the industry, there's so much belief
20:48
Speaker 1: and so much and what you can't see. There's so
20:51
Speaker 1: much faith in a project that doesn't have a script
20:54
Speaker 1: yet and all of these things, and where we know
20:56
Speaker 1: everyone's an artists, where yet people want you to stick
21:00
Speaker 1: was working in what the paycheck. They know in the
21:02
Speaker 1: way that they recognize. And so you get a lot
21:05
Speaker 1: of people who are supportive, but also a lot of
21:07
Speaker 1: people are like, well, music won't take off until you're
21:10
Speaker 1: a certain place in acting and focus on what you
21:13
Speaker 1: don't want to be a jack of all trades and
21:14
Speaker 1: a master of none all of these other things. And
21:17
Speaker 1: I was like, well, what would I be if I
21:19
Speaker 1: limited what my belief? I would have stayed in Virginia
21:23
Speaker 1: and did something else. So why would I have as
21:27
Speaker 1: much faith in my music as I have in my
21:29
Speaker 1: acting when people said I wouldn't be able to do that?
21:33
Speaker 1: You know, And honestly, what's so crazy to me is
21:39
Speaker 1: that God wants me to be doing this and I
21:42
Speaker 1: say that, and I don't say that lightness. Literally every
21:47
Speaker 1: role that's taken in my acting career that it's like
21:50
Speaker 1: been pivotal in moving me forward, has been music related.
21:55
Speaker 1: So I can't ignore what is destined down to Harlamam
21:59
Speaker 1: playing us Anger the movie before that Body, I played
22:03
Speaker 1: a battle rapper that was produced by eminem And it's
22:05
Speaker 1: just like all of these things that these cookie crowns
22:10
Speaker 1: that God has been given me a bread crome that
22:12
Speaker 1: leads to so much more. And and what's another thing
22:17
Speaker 1: that's so interesting by people wanting to limit is that
22:20
Speaker 1: I don't know one artist who only does one thing
22:23
Speaker 1: right right now. You can't be an entrepreneur and only
22:26
Speaker 1: do one thing. But specifically with art, I don't know
22:30
Speaker 1: one person who says our own sing or I only right,
22:33
Speaker 1: our only act. Megan Good who directed my music video
22:37
Speaker 1: is also a director, you know, and Beyonce and everybody
22:43
Speaker 1: else or any then alto my friends, I don't know
22:45
Speaker 1: what a single artist who doesn't express themselves in more
22:51
Speaker 1: more than one way of the form. You know, that's important,
22:54
Speaker 1: that that's important that you have those examples. Those are
22:56
Speaker 1: important that you see people who are doing it and
23:00
Speaker 1: they are to in turn until you go forward. But
23:02
Speaker 1: I think because of social media, how does social media
23:05
Speaker 1: player role in your success? Now? The social media has
23:10
Speaker 1: been a very vanished official to me in a personal way. Okay, well,
23:16
Speaker 1: in the business of it all, you have access to
23:18
Speaker 1: people that you don't have access to. There's no gatekeepers.
23:23
Speaker 1: With social media. You can slide in open one free dams.
23:26
Speaker 1: I don't know if she would see them, but you can,
23:29
Speaker 1: you know, And so I love that right now, especially
23:33
Speaker 1: in a place where there's a little bit of eyes.
23:38
Speaker 1: It's kind of a social media allows the removal of gatekeepers.
23:43
Speaker 1: You know, you don't have to have someone's pub of
23:48
Speaker 1: publicist information or the agents information or managers. You can
23:52
Speaker 1: just literally reach out to them or build a rapport
23:56
Speaker 1: through commenting and connect in that aspect. On a personal where,
24:04
Speaker 1: I was blessed by social media because I've been working
24:07
Speaker 1: on taking up more space and I feel that I
24:13
Speaker 1: do that with fashion and I do that with my dreams.
24:16
Speaker 1: But I initially ran to acting because it was a
24:22
Speaker 1: there was a place to hide as and as far
24:25
Speaker 1: as like what I had to say, like my voice
24:28
Speaker 1: wasn't as identifiable when you can put on Shakespeare's writing,
24:34
Speaker 1: you know. And so what I like about social media
24:38
Speaker 1: is it allows for you to take up space digitally
24:43
Speaker 1: and to get into the practice of building the sales
24:49
Speaker 1: aspect of you, which is the share, the tail, the
24:52
Speaker 1: building relationships and those things. I really stretched those muscles
24:56
Speaker 1: with social media because it can be very hard for
24:59
Speaker 1: me to talk about what I've done and all of
25:02
Speaker 1: the things that like the bragging, things that steel like
25:05
Speaker 1: bragging but are influential in uniquing further business connections. You
25:10
Speaker 1: have to talk about it, you know. And I find
25:14
Speaker 1: that I'm strengthening that marketing and sales muscle with posting
25:19
Speaker 1: on Instagram and take our challenging myself to post on
25:22
Speaker 1: Instagram and take talking about I love it. I love
25:24
Speaker 1: it Well. I'm speaking to Shaniqua Shanda. She's one of
25:26
Speaker 1: the stars of the series, the streaming series called Harlem.
25:29
Speaker 1: It's a comedy. It's on Amazon Prime. That's the second season.
25:33
Speaker 1: It's just a new single out call something about you
25:36
Speaker 1: that you can get. But more importantly, it's about her character,
25:39
Speaker 1: her ability to overcome stereotypes. When I watch that character,
25:43
Speaker 1: you know, it's a very high energy character. And when
25:47
Speaker 1: we come back from break, I wanted to talk about that,
25:50
Speaker 1: but I also I wanted to talk about the fact
25:51
Speaker 1: that La Everybody knows that this original character was supposed
25:56
Speaker 1: to do nudity, and we're gonna discuss how Miss Shanday
26:02
Speaker 1: convinced them that that was not the path that she
26:05
Speaker 1: was going to go and obviously she's delivering because she's
26:09
Speaker 1: into the second season Harlem. We'll be right back with
26:11
Speaker 1: more with Miss Shaniqua Sunday and her career and a
26:16
Speaker 1: discussion of how she sees the future beyond television, beyond streaming,
26:21
Speaker 1: beyond music, more of a money making conversation hosted by
26:24
Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald Masterclass. We'll be right back with more Money
26:34
Speaker 1: Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. You are now tuned
26:40
Speaker 1: into the Money Making Conversations Minute of Inspiration with Rashaan McDonald.
26:45
Speaker 1: Hi and Rushan McDonald for Money Making Conversation Masterclass with
26:48
Speaker 1: your daily Minute of Inspiration. This week I sat down
26:50
Speaker 1: with counseling psychologists and sports mental health expert doctor T. M. Moseley.
26:55
Speaker 1: She talks about the importance of changing the conversation around
26:58
Speaker 1: mental health and getting rid of surrounding stigmas. Many of
27:02
Speaker 1: the aspects of mental health have been heavily stigmatized and
27:06
Speaker 1: for us, we want to change the game and change
27:08
Speaker 1: this conversation. We don't get to peak performance if we
27:11
Speaker 1: don't take care of ourselves or if we're going to
27:13
Speaker 1: do things to make sure our bodies are well, we
27:16
Speaker 1: have to do the same things for our minds. So
27:18
Speaker 1: there's a common misconception that when I say mental health,
27:21
Speaker 1: it's completed with mental illness or mental disorder, and that's
27:25
Speaker 1: not the case. Everybody has mental health like they have
27:27
Speaker 1: physical health, and we've got to do things to make
27:30
Speaker 1: sure that we check in. If you want to listen
27:32
Speaker 1: to this full interview with doctor TM Moosley. It's available
27:35
Speaker 1: on Moneymaking Conversation dot com. I'm speaking with Shaniqua Day.
27:39
Speaker 1: It's one of the stars of Harlem, which a strange
27:42
Speaker 1: right now in the second season. Very good, very good.
27:45
Speaker 1: It's about four ladies. Lead character is lead actress is
27:49
Speaker 1: making good in this series. When the opportunity is presented
27:54
Speaker 1: to you, shand to be one of the auditions for
27:59
Speaker 1: this role, NWY was one of the what they do
28:02
Speaker 1: these outsides and they tell you Sometimes these sides, they
28:05
Speaker 1: tell you what type of person they're looking for. They
28:08
Speaker 1: tell you, but they also tell you a certain certain things.
28:10
Speaker 1: They might want you to be athletic. They might ask you,
28:12
Speaker 1: do you know martial arts? He might ask you, or
28:15
Speaker 1: if you know poetry, if you can sing. These type
28:18
Speaker 1: of things come out insides, but also inside sometimes they
28:21
Speaker 1: tell you whether or not close or optional or they
28:24
Speaker 1: would expect new, new new partness. This would happen, this
28:28
Speaker 1: was presented to you. Correct, Yes, yes, there was. Um.
28:34
Speaker 1: I got the notification while I was at them all
28:39
Speaker 1: and we do I like so And because the response
28:43
Speaker 1: was just that quickly, of just that quick I saw,
28:46
Speaker 1: oh it's an Unsie didn't even have a name yet,
28:48
Speaker 1: it was untitled Tracy Oliver Project, and every black actress
28:53
Speaker 1: she just did Girls Trip was ready to work with
28:56
Speaker 1: her right. Um. And then I saw that the role
29:00
Speaker 1: required nudity. It's must do nudity, and immediately, well, um,
29:05
Speaker 1: I already have kind of like an understanding with my
29:08
Speaker 1: representation at the time that I don't even auditions for
29:12
Speaker 1: us type of the world because you fear. Don't tend
29:15
Speaker 1: it to me because I don't want to be tempted
29:17
Speaker 1: like all of those things. Um. And also to because
29:21
Speaker 1: I'm like, you're gonna get so much time. You're gonna
29:24
Speaker 1: get my tears, my vulnerability, you're gonna get my pain
29:29
Speaker 1: and fears. You don't gotta get me naked too, So
29:36
Speaker 1: you gotta get me naked. I'm gonna give you. I'm
29:38
Speaker 1: gonna give your emotion. I'm gonna give you laughter, I'm
29:40
Speaker 1: gonna give you I'm gonna give you my smile, video
29:43
Speaker 1: all day lessons, lead all of it. But we nobody
29:48
Speaker 1: else has to get make it for their job. I'm
29:50
Speaker 1: not doing it for mine. Um. And then so but
29:56
Speaker 1: did you did you did you fear? But did you
29:58
Speaker 1: not fear? Losing the opportunity because it's Tracy Oliver. Tracy Oliver,
30:03
Speaker 1: I know she said go as Girls Trip. There was
30:05
Speaker 1: a YID movie Tiffany had. This really made her career?
30:09
Speaker 1: Was it made her the star she is today? Was
30:11
Speaker 1: that movie that was done with Will Packer Production? Huge?
30:16
Speaker 1: You get this call yeah, Tracy, she makes made a superstar?
30:21
Speaker 1: Mean traite. Tiffany was who she was, but the launching
30:24
Speaker 1: head and the show, the pedestal that was created around
30:28
Speaker 1: her with Girls Trip and just the amazingment of that
30:32
Speaker 1: film and First Wives Clubs and everything else. Until seeing
30:36
Speaker 1: First Wives Club and knowing that she shoots curvy body
30:39
Speaker 1: you see you know very well and loves us itself,
30:43
Speaker 1: it did feel like a big risk. Um. I had
30:46
Speaker 1: literally maybe a couple of months prior, just came across
30:50
Speaker 1: a message from another actress. She spoke at a church
30:54
Speaker 1: and I found a video like a Buena Finley I
30:57
Speaker 1: believe her name is, and she um talked about an
31:01
Speaker 1: opportunity where she booked the gig like actually had it
31:06
Speaker 1: was hers and then had to talk to the director
31:10
Speaker 1: about not wanting to do nudity, and I just believe, Okay,
31:15
Speaker 1: let me get you straight. So so another actress booked
31:20
Speaker 1: in the same role. No, no, No, This is another
31:24
Speaker 1: project she did a few years ago, and I came
31:27
Speaker 1: across the video and she talked about how she had
31:32
Speaker 1: to talk to the director about not wanting to do
31:35
Speaker 1: nudity after she had already booked a role, and I
31:40
Speaker 1: just it helped affirm me and give me permission to
31:44
Speaker 1: stand on my ground even more. And honestly, I feel
31:49
Speaker 1: like anything that is swarming is going to come to me.
31:52
Speaker 1: I don't have to push my moral adjust my morals
31:56
Speaker 1: for it. Um. I definitely don't have to adjust my
32:00
Speaker 1: beliefs for it. It's it's supposed to be mine. It's
32:04
Speaker 1: going to come in the way that I'm able to
32:07
Speaker 1: receive it, um. And if it's not, then bless the
32:12
Speaker 1: woman who gets it. But I'm so grateful to Tracy
32:16
Speaker 1: because literally within ten minutes or so, I was still
32:20
Speaker 1: in the same location, I got a message a call
32:24
Speaker 1: from my agents at the time, and they were saying,
32:27
Speaker 1: you know, she doesn't want you anyone to feel uncomfortable. Um,
32:31
Speaker 1: you don't have to do nudity. And it's like she
32:34
Speaker 1: doesn't even know me. I haven't even auditioned for she
32:37
Speaker 1: hasn't seen my work, she don't know my name from Adam,
32:40
Speaker 1: and would be willing to adjust the integrity of her
32:43
Speaker 1: character for someone she hasn't even seen read for. I
32:46
Speaker 1: was like, well, that's somebody I want to work with.
32:49
Speaker 1: You know, Well, here's the funny point about this character
32:52
Speaker 1: that she plays, because Angie hyper sext all she talks
32:58
Speaker 1: about is in jumping in and ill all the time,
33:01
Speaker 1: all the time, all the time, all the time. And
33:03
Speaker 1: she's the curvy member of the team. And I bring
33:07
Speaker 1: that up because we have so many stereotypes in Hollywood
33:10
Speaker 1: saying that they need to look at a certain place.
33:12
Speaker 1: And then I read this article about this, this quote
33:15
Speaker 1: that out of You're saying being a dark, skinny, curvy
33:19
Speaker 1: woman with a gap teeth kids are heart So I'm
33:22
Speaker 1: assuming as you, as as as a person who grew up,
33:25
Speaker 1: you had to deal with this look and maybe some bullying.
33:28
Speaker 1: Is that correct? Absolutely? Yeah, I was. I was traumatized
33:35
Speaker 1: of um. And it's like, you know, it's being curvy,
33:42
Speaker 1: it's being dark skinned, it's having a guy and also
33:45
Speaker 1: having the audacity to be who I am, which is
33:49
Speaker 1: someone who takes up space and so especially coming from
33:55
Speaker 1: the South, where we are told to be as small
34:00
Speaker 1: as possible, like that those beliefs are still in Virginia.
34:03
Speaker 1: The monuments of slave owners and civil Civil War leaders
34:11
Speaker 1: that we are still celebrated, which was just pulled down
34:15
Speaker 1: a year and a half ago, and that's because black
34:17
Speaker 1: young black activists did it in the city. So the
34:20
Speaker 1: through line of know your place is a big thing
34:24
Speaker 1: in Virginia. And I don't by those kind of rules.
34:31
Speaker 1: So I got tortured because of it constantly now. But
34:35
Speaker 1: that but I said, in knowing who you are, and
34:39
Speaker 1: because we've all I know, I couldn't have examples of
34:42
Speaker 1: me being bullied because when you are different and don't
34:45
Speaker 1: want to comply, people tend to want to personalize that
34:50
Speaker 1: by attacking you or trying to break you down. And
34:52
Speaker 1: when you look at Hollywood, you look at the character
34:54
Speaker 1: you play. Just give us your version of what your
34:57
Speaker 1: character is. Because I'm a viewer, I'm a I'm watching
35:00
Speaker 1: the show. But what do you like about your character
35:03
Speaker 1: Angie on Harlem? And then let's find out about that,
35:06
Speaker 1: and then let's talk about the relationship of the other characters.
35:09
Speaker 1: Did you interact on the show? What I love the
35:13
Speaker 1: mouth about Angie is HER's bravado. How she loves and
35:20
Speaker 1: values herself in spite of her circumstances, like nothing that
35:25
Speaker 1: you could say to her out what we nothing regarding
35:29
Speaker 1: her career, having seemingly nothing, being on her friend's couch,
35:36
Speaker 1: being unemployed, she still knows who she is completely and
35:40
Speaker 1: utterly and requires the world to respond to that level
35:45
Speaker 1: of herself. She's a superstar, whether she got a record
35:50
Speaker 1: deal or whether she's unemployed. And being in a time
35:54
Speaker 1: where we are so obsessed with looking at others, I
35:58
Speaker 1: think it's so beautiful to see a dark skinned, curvy,
36:02
Speaker 1: confident woman who feels her own tank and it does
36:06
Speaker 1: not um, It's not based on how other people see
36:10
Speaker 1: her at all. Okay, now that not explained to me
36:13
Speaker 1: the characters. Now you have your character and I'm just
36:17
Speaker 1: your character straight on the show, correct, Yes, Okay, then
36:21
Speaker 1: you have no, I'm not Actually, I'm like, do I know,
36:24
Speaker 1: I feel like there's been moments of shearing about Angie
36:30
Speaker 1: experimenting with women before, but I haven't seen it, right, right, right,
36:34
Speaker 1: But I'm just talking about from what we've seen on
36:36
Speaker 1: the show, and then you have Yeah, but I'm saying
36:39
Speaker 1: there's been conversations because you you know something, we won't
36:44
Speaker 1: get too detailed. We won't get too detailed because I
36:46
Speaker 1: was about to bring up some other topics on this show.
36:48
Speaker 1: We probably lose our license messing with you on this
36:50
Speaker 1: show to day and then and then Mega's character, a
36:54
Speaker 1: good character is bouncing between two guys. She's confused from
36:59
Speaker 1: a love perspective. And then m and then ties character
37:03
Speaker 1: she just divorced her husband and because she realized who
37:08
Speaker 1: she really is, that that was not the life that
37:11
Speaker 1: she wanted to live. And she's living her life as
37:13
Speaker 1: a queer, and so she's defining that now. The one
37:16
Speaker 1: character really is confused about is cute who is she
37:22
Speaker 1: que Queen's Gimmy Quinn Quinn's character, who is she? You know?
37:27
Speaker 1: Because the last episode that I saw, you know she
37:31
Speaker 1: found this guy? Did she realized that, Hey, I haven't
37:33
Speaker 1: found who I am? And and basically potentially she walked
37:38
Speaker 1: away from from the true love of her life. Where
37:41
Speaker 1: is she seeking love and who is she? And does
37:44
Speaker 1: she have a balance in her mind? Because her mom
37:47
Speaker 1: played by the amazing Jasmine Guy. By the way, Jasmine
37:50
Speaker 1: Guy is amazing, and that Whoopie Goldbert I can't get
37:54
Speaker 1: enough of her on this series. She's just fantastic and
37:58
Speaker 1: everything that she does with mega good, it's gold. If
38:01
Speaker 1: you if you just watched the episode just to see
38:04
Speaker 1: jas mcgoty pop in. She plays Quinn's mother on the show,
38:08
Speaker 1: and she just lets her know that it may be
38:10
Speaker 1: a mental issue because she let her know about her father.
38:13
Speaker 1: So these characters, with all these dynamic emotional threads, where
38:18
Speaker 1: is from an emotional standpoint in relationships, does Quinn stand?
38:24
Speaker 1: I think, like you, I think you said it. I
38:26
Speaker 1: think Quinn is standing to find a relationship with herself.
38:31
Speaker 1: I think so much of who she is has been
38:34
Speaker 1: determined by the boxes that she believes she needs to check.
38:39
Speaker 1: For her mother, it was for her family was being
38:42
Speaker 1: as successful as possible, and she did that enough in
38:44
Speaker 1: a financial industry and wasn't happy, and so she went
38:49
Speaker 1: to artistry and she's like, Okay, well, if I can
38:51
Speaker 1: check this box about love on that will make me happy.
38:55
Speaker 1: So she's been pursuing a partner as the way some
38:59
Speaker 1: people pursue a co rear and realizing and completely neglecting
39:03
Speaker 1: her own mental health and wellness. At the same time,
39:06
Speaker 1: she's the strong friend who is there to support everyone,
39:10
Speaker 1: to be your sounding board and your support system in
39:16
Speaker 1: place of encouragement, but doesn't quite have the voice to
39:19
Speaker 1: say when she needs someone. And I think you really
39:22
Speaker 1: get to see that in her battle with mental health
39:26
Speaker 1: this season and finally having the courage to ask for
39:30
Speaker 1: her friends and say she needs them. Ultimately, yeah, she
39:35
Speaker 1: found someone she loves, but it came at a time
39:38
Speaker 1: where she's really needing to take care of herself, and
39:43
Speaker 1: I don't think she would be it would benefit her
39:47
Speaker 1: as a human being at all, knowing that her cup
39:50
Speaker 1: is empty right now and that she's in such a
39:53
Speaker 1: space where I'm trying to become mentally stable to jump
39:59
Speaker 1: in relationship, and so I think it's actually very brave
40:02
Speaker 1: of her to say, especially since she's been choosing and
40:07
Speaker 1: wanting after men and wanting to be chosen so badly,
40:10
Speaker 1: to finally say, actually, the most important relationship that I
40:15
Speaker 1: have and can have is the one with myself. Well,
40:18
Speaker 1: that's the beauty of this show. Yeah, that's the beauty
40:21
Speaker 1: of this show because of the fact that therefore women,
40:24
Speaker 1: each one of you, each one of the characters, is
40:27
Speaker 1: definitely distinctively different than the other, each character the only
40:30
Speaker 1: emotional baggage or relationship baggage. But their girlfriends and their
40:34
Speaker 1: girlfriends who And I was just thinking back back when
40:37
Speaker 1: I was in college, you know, and I and you
40:39
Speaker 1: know some I had some boys that I ran like that.
40:42
Speaker 1: You know, we went out, we had each other's back,
40:45
Speaker 1: we talked, we had our guide conversation, and we lived
40:49
Speaker 1: that life. And so but this is a lifetime relationship
40:52
Speaker 1: that we see that's being presented out here. And the
40:56
Speaker 1: beauty of this last episode, I can't even reveal the
40:59
Speaker 1: cliffhanger that they put on this last episode. Y'all just
41:01
Speaker 1: gotta watch it. This clear finger they put on this
41:04
Speaker 1: last episode. I will not give that other way, Shaniqua.
41:09
Speaker 1: They just gotta watch this past episode to be prepared
41:12
Speaker 1: for the episode that comes out this week. But again,
41:15
Speaker 1: I'm so excited for you in this series as we leave.
41:18
Speaker 1: What other projects are you working on? I'm working on
41:22
Speaker 1: music right now, dropping from new music. And you know what,
41:27
Speaker 1: I've always been very very bold with my my ask
41:32
Speaker 1: of God. I want an international action comedy rics. I
41:36
Speaker 1: want to be running through Morocco and Malan and laughing
41:41
Speaker 1: and doing press all over this world. I think, Um,
41:45
Speaker 1: I think it was really joyous and being able to
41:48
Speaker 1: experience some of that and this past season with the
41:51
Speaker 1: physicality of Angie, Um, I want to do more of it.
41:55
Speaker 1: I want to ride more bikes, play with helicopters. Faull jumped. Well,
42:03
Speaker 1: I'm gonna be right if you can hold on. Men,
42:04
Speaker 1: I want to ask you one more question for we
42:06
Speaker 1: go after we come back from a break, because you've
42:07
Speaker 1: been a fantastic interview and the whole importance of this
42:11
Speaker 1: series is that I know there are a lot of women,
42:14
Speaker 1: there are a lot of teenagers who watch into my
42:16
Speaker 1: show because there's also airs on twenty one HBCU stations
42:19
Speaker 1: across the country. And I want you to just talk
42:22
Speaker 1: about the empowering when people are negative, when people are
42:26
Speaker 1: hitting you with stereotypes, how you react. So I just
42:28
Speaker 1: want to give you a few moments to just really
42:30
Speaker 1: think about how you'd like to respond, because it's important
42:33
Speaker 1: when people tell you what you can do, and you
42:36
Speaker 1: have to sometimes follow your dreams. I shouldn't say sometimes
42:39
Speaker 1: follow your dreams, but you gotta do it with a
42:41
Speaker 1: support group. Let me tell you about the host of
42:43
