- 0:00Speaker 1: Trump has extraordinary courage. He has a solid steel backbone,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and we're used to Republicans who are scared of their
- 0:09Speaker 1: own shadow. And so that's what I like best about
- 0:12Speaker 1: President Trump. I suspect that's what you like best about
- 0:15Speaker 1: President Trump is his courage and fearless.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Now you're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with
- 0:21Speaker 2: Ben ferguson.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Good Monday morning. Nice have you with us on the
- 0:24Speaker 3: forty seven Morning Update, and we've got two big stories
- 0:26Speaker 3: for you. First up, Spirit Airlines died and the question
- 0:30Speaker 3: is who's to blame for this and should the government
- 0:34Speaker 3: have stepped in to stop it? We have that for you. Also,
- 0:38Speaker 3: you may remember a couple of years ago its Spirit
- 0:40Speaker 3: Airlines was wanting to be sold to another carrier called
- 0:44Speaker 3: Jet Blue. Well, guess what socialist crusader Elizabeth Warren and
- 0:48Speaker 3: the Biden administration stopped it. Will they be held accountable
- 0:52Speaker 3: for the destruction of Spirit Airlines? We break it all
- 0:55Speaker 3: down for you. It's a forty seven Morning Update and
- 0:58Speaker 3: it starts right now. Number one, I want to start
- 1:01Speaker 3: off by just being really honest about what we've just
- 1:06Speaker 3: witnessed with the Spirit Airlines shut down. It is a
- 1:11Speaker 3: super low cost airline. Elizabeth Warren, and I'm going to
- 1:15Speaker 3: take you back in time. Put this out on Twitter
- 1:18Speaker 3: on March the fifth of twenty twenty four. It has
- 1:21Speaker 3: now gone viral yet again. Elizabeth Warren and her socialist
- 1:26Speaker 3: wackos decided to stop a merger that could have saved
- 1:31Speaker 3: Spirit Airlines. Her exact words were this, I warned for
- 1:35Speaker 3: months that a Jet Blue Spirit Airlines merger would have
- 1:39Speaker 3: led to fewer flights and higher fares. Well, we know
- 1:43Speaker 3: that she's either incredibly stupid or a pathological liar, because
- 1:47Speaker 3: the thing that she warned would happen because she stopped
- 1:51Speaker 3: that merger has actually happened. Today, fewer Americans have choices
- 1:57Speaker 3: over flights, and all Americans now have higher fares. She
- 2:02Speaker 3: then went on to say that the Justice and the
- 2:06Speaker 3: Antitrust Division at Justice, as well as the United States
- 2:10Speaker 3: Department of Transportation back and again, this is back in
- 2:14Speaker 3: twenty twenty four. We're right to stand up, she says,
- 2:18Speaker 3: for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation. She then said,
- 2:25Speaker 3: this is a Biden win for flyers. You're gonna say
- 2:29Speaker 3: that again, Elizabeth Warren, this is a Biden win for flyers.
- 2:35Speaker 3: So let's look at where we are now. Spirit Airlines
- 2:39Speaker 3: died this weekend, and it died at the hands of
- 2:44Speaker 3: the socialist crusader Elizabeth Warren. She must be so proud
- 2:48Speaker 3: to add another casket to her achievements, is what one
- 2:52Speaker 3: person wrote online. At three am. Spirit turned off the
- 2:55Speaker 3: lights directly. More than fourteen thousand jobs gone, thirty plus
- 3:01Speaker 3: smaller airports lost service. Now that's all because of the
- 3:04Speaker 3: Biden DOJ, because of the Department Transportation, mayor Pete and
- 3:09Speaker 3: Elizabeth Warren. Jet Blue. By the way, this matters in life,
- 3:13Speaker 3: like the facts and history. At the time, JetBlue offered
- 3:18Speaker 3: three point eight billion dollars in cash to buy Spirit
- 3:22Speaker 3: Airlines in twenty twenty two. What's even more interesting about
- 3:26Speaker 3: that offer was who all agreed? Shareholders agreed, flight attendance
- 3:32Speaker 3: unions agreed. Literally everyone voted yes. Why because they knew
- 3:36Speaker 3: this was the only way to save the airline. Now,
- 3:40Speaker 3: the combined company of Jet Blue and Spirit would have
- 3:44Speaker 3: held only nine percent of the US market against a
- 3:48Speaker 3: big four that already owned eighty percent. Now, for anyone
- 3:52Speaker 3: that understands numbers, nine percent isn't a monopoly against eighty percent.
- 3:58Speaker 3: But Elizabeth Warren and her communist friends at the DOJ
- 4:02Speaker 3: and the Biden administration said no. Now, this wasn't an
- 4:06Speaker 3: afterthought for Elizabeth Warren. I want to be clear. She
- 4:09Speaker 3: was obsessed with this merger. She wrote letters, she pressured
- 4:13Speaker 3: Mayor Pete, who was a transportation secretary. Biden's DOJ got
- 4:17Speaker 3: involved and then sued. A federal judge finally killed the
- 4:22Speaker 3: deal in January of twenty twenty four, and that is
- 4:25Speaker 3: when spirit died, even though it took a little more time. Now,
- 4:30Speaker 3: Elizabeth Warren in the communist argument, was very clear they
- 4:34Speaker 3: lied and said the merger would cost consumers one billion
- 4:36Speaker 3: a year. Well, let's just look at the collateral damage
- 4:40Speaker 3: that she dusts under the rug like it never happened,
- 4:43Speaker 3: and so many other Democrats. You have more than five
- 4:46Speaker 3: hundred pilots gone in the months after January twenty twenty four.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You had eighteen hundred flight attendants that were furloughed in December.
- 4:55Speaker 3: You had then another fourteen thousand jobs that were lost
- 4:58Speaker 3: in twenty twenty five three, and then last week another
- 5:02Speaker 3: seven thousand, five hundred. How many people do they employ now,
- 5:06Speaker 3: zero And that's just the people that were actually wearing
- 5:10Speaker 3: Spirit Airlines uniforms. There's other jobs that are gone as well.
- 5:15Speaker 3: And you need to understand this. And by the way,
- 5:17Speaker 3: all this that I'm saying to you right now, I
- 5:18Speaker 3: have put out this retweet on x You can see
- 5:21Speaker 3: it and you can use this. It's important, all right.
- 5:24Speaker 3: You had catering that is not direct job of Spirit.
- 5:27Speaker 3: It's an indirect job. Because of the industry, those catering
- 5:31Speaker 3: jobs gone. The fuel guys they're gone, The baggage crews
- 5:36Speaker 3: not Spirit employees gone. The gate agent's gone, The airport
- 5:41Speaker 3: coffee shops that service those where they were going, you
- 5:44Speaker 3: know where Spirit Airlines flowing it out of they're now hurting,
- 5:47Speaker 3: are gone. Then you had all the hotels and all
- 5:50Speaker 3: the rental cars and the seventy cities that Spirit flew to.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Every airline job. And this is using the Biden by
- 5:58Speaker 3: the way, their own numbers, the government numbers right now,
- 6:01Speaker 3: every airline job carries three more on its back, meaning
- 6:05Speaker 3: that if you got ten thousand, there's another thirty thousand jobs.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Because of the ten thousand direct airline jobs, you now
- 6:12Speaker 3: have forty thousand people out of work. Because of the
- 6:16Speaker 3: socialist communists and Marxist morons and their crusade against the
- 6:22Speaker 3: markets doing what they need to do in the private sector. Spirit,
- 6:26Speaker 3: by the way, you have another fallout from all this.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Spirit has now abandoned ninety routes during the death spiral.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Fairs on those routes are costing you, the American people.
- 6:37Speaker 3: And remember, if I remember correctly, Democrats say over and
- 6:40Speaker 3: over again what they stand up for poor people, little people, right,
- 6:43Speaker 3: they stand up for the people that live in paytriock
- 6:45Speaker 3: perry check. Who do you think Spirit Airlines was serving?
- 6:48Speaker 3: They were an ultralow carrier, cost carrier, That's who they were.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Some people call them the Greyhound of the skies. By
- 6:56Speaker 3: the way, I did everything I could to avoid Spirit Airlines.
- 6:58Speaker 3: We've all seen the video that have gone viral of
- 7:01Speaker 3: the fighting on airplanes, the fighting at the ticket counters,
- 7:03Speaker 3: and the fighting at the bag check in. Like we've
- 7:05Speaker 3: all seen it, right I will. I've flown Spirit in
- 7:08Speaker 3: my whole life, I think twice. And it was because
- 7:11Speaker 3: it was the only flight that worked that day after
- 7:13Speaker 3: there was another flight that was canceled scenario. But for
- 7:16Speaker 3: many Americans, this was the difference between going on a
- 7:19Speaker 3: trip and not going on a trip. Going on a vacation,
- 7:21Speaker 3: not going on a vacation, going on a trip that
- 7:24Speaker 3: they had to go for because of a family member
- 7:27Speaker 3: that was sick or a funeral, and not going spirit
- 7:30Speaker 3: not only abandoned is now ninety routes during the death spiral,
- 7:34Speaker 3: but fares on those routes. Remember this is what Elizabeth
- 7:36Speaker 3: Warren said, we can't have this murder because the affairs
- 7:38Speaker 3: are going to go up. Well, guess what's happened now?
- 7:40Speaker 3: The fares are on up average of fourteen percent. Let
- 7:43Speaker 3: me give you some real numbers. Oakland and New York
- 7:46Speaker 3: has skyrocketed from one hundred and thirty five dollars of
- 7:48Speaker 3: two eighty eight. Fort Myers of San Juan has skyrocketed
- 7:52Speaker 3: from ninety two dollars to two nineteen, and now it's
- 7:54Speaker 3: probably going to go even higher. Kansas City, for example,
- 7:57Speaker 3: in Newark, is up sixty six percent. All right, that's
- 8:01Speaker 3: not by the way, I want to be clear, this
- 8:04Speaker 3: is reality. This isn't some bs made up number from
- 8:07Speaker 3: some random study. This is really the life consequences of
- 8:11Speaker 3: when the government got involved in some they should have
- 8:13Speaker 3: never been involved in stopping this merger center. Warren is
- 8:18Speaker 3: an individual who will look you in the eyes and
- 8:20Speaker 3: tell you she's doing you a favor while destroying a
- 8:23Speaker 3: company and seventeen eighteen, nineteen, twenty thirty forty fifty thousand
- 8:28Speaker 3: jobs and then is held accountable apparently by no one
- 8:32Speaker 3: for doing this. Here's something else that's interesting. Cheap carriers
- 8:36Speaker 3: in a market drop fares on average twenty one percent
- 8:39Speaker 3: across the board. Southwest, by the way, when they used
- 8:42Speaker 3: to be in a low cost carrier, they're no longer right,
- 8:44Speaker 3: they're one of the big four now in my opinion.
- 8:46Speaker 3: All right, Southwest did this in the nineteen nineties. Do
- 8:49Speaker 3: you know how much money? They say that Southwest Airlines
- 8:52Speaker 3: being in their markets were the other airlines the Uniteds,
- 8:55Speaker 3: the Continentals, the Americans, the Deltas flew into Do you
- 8:59Speaker 3: know how much money they say that? The American people
- 9:01Speaker 3: say because Southwest Airlines went into these cities. They because
- 9:06Speaker 3: they pushed fares down, not up. There was more options,
- 9:09Speaker 3: more choice, and the other airlines had to match to
- 9:13Speaker 3: stay competitive. Southwest Airlines, they say, in the nineteen nineties,
- 9:16Speaker 3: saved American sixty eight billion dollars over twenty years. I'm
- 9:20Speaker 3: gonna say that again. Studies say that Southwest Airlines when
- 9:23Speaker 3: they were a cheap carrier, saved American sixty eight billion
- 9:27Speaker 3: over twenty years. And so what in Elizabeth Warren do
- 9:30Speaker 3: She killed the next Southwest Airlines? She killed it and
- 9:33Speaker 3: what was a moronic political play led by socialism the
- 9:38Speaker 3: socialist ideals is what costs Spirit Airlines the ability to
- 9:43Speaker 3: be able to merge with Jet Blue. And then with
- 9:47Speaker 3: her own blind arrogance, she actually tweeted that the Spirit
- 9:52Speaker 3: collapse is a Biden win for flyers, a win. Yes,
- 9:57Speaker 3: fourteen thousand jobs terminated, Yeah, she says that's a good thing.
- 10:01Speaker 3: She also wants you to believe that Spirit loss because
- 10:04Speaker 3: of the Warren Iran. That's her new talking point. She
- 10:07Speaker 3: wants you to believe that Spirit Airlines was somehow totally
- 10:11Speaker 3: fine and not in bankruptcy before the Warren Iran, and
- 10:14Speaker 3: that this is all Donald Trump's fault. And if you
- 10:17Speaker 3: believe that, you're a special kind of stupid. This is
- 10:20Speaker 3: a senator, by the way, And this is the problem
- 10:23Speaker 3: with Washington. They don't understand the private sector. They don't
- 10:27Speaker 3: understand what it means to run a business. Elizabeth Warren's
- 10:30Speaker 3: never made payroll in her life, right, she thinks she
- 10:34Speaker 3: knows how to run a market in a business better
- 10:36Speaker 3: than the people who actually own and work in the company,
- 10:39Speaker 3: because she's never actually held a real job or employed
- 10:43Speaker 3: a significant number of people in the private sector. So
- 10:48Speaker 3: she's gonna sit there and she's gonna say, hey, I
- 10:49Speaker 3: saved you a billion dollars on imaginary paper, when in
- 10:52Speaker 3: fact she costs ten times that in real life. She
- 10:56Speaker 3: didn't protect consumers from anything. You've got forty thousand jobs.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And by the way, where are they gonna go. They're
- 11:03Speaker 3: gonna go ask for government help, many of them. Some
- 11:05Speaker 3: of them are gonna end up on welfare. And then
- 11:07Speaker 3: she says, well, you know you should blame oh, the
- 11:09Speaker 3: evil billionaires in America, the millionaires and the billionaires. That's
- 11:14Speaker 3: who you need to blame. And by the way, she
- 11:17Speaker 3: now has power over people that are desperate for government aid.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Maybe that was her plan all along.
- 11:24Speaker 4: It makes you.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Think, now, story number two.
- 11:27Speaker 3: I also just want to go back and remind you
- 11:29Speaker 3: of the arrogance of the Biden administration. And I'm going
- 11:33Speaker 3: to go back to March seventh of twenty twenty three.
- 11:35Speaker 3: The Attorney General Merrick Garland decided to get involved in
- 11:39Speaker 3: the private sector in a way. You should have never
- 11:41Speaker 3: got involved, because this is what socialists and communists and
- 11:45Speaker 3: Marxists do. This was carried live on CBS News. It
- 11:50Speaker 3: was such a big deal, and Merrick Garland came out saying,
- 11:55Speaker 3: let me explain to you our complaint that alleges there
- 12:00Speaker 3: they're attacking the private sector, Jet Blue and the three
- 12:03Speaker 3: point eight billion in cash they were willing to offer
- 12:06Speaker 3: for Spirit Airlines to save that airline. And do you
- 12:10Speaker 3: want to know what the Biden administration sounded like. Do
- 12:12Speaker 3: you want to know when government comes down on you,
- 12:15Speaker 3: This is what it sounds like, folks.
- 12:18Speaker 5: Today, the Department of Justice file a civil anti trust
- 12:21Speaker 5: lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of
- 12:23Speaker 5: Massachusetts to stop the merger of Jet Blue and Spirit Airlines.
- 12:28Speaker 5: We are joined in that lawsuit by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,
- 12:31Speaker 5: the State of New York, and the District of Columbia.
- 12:34Speaker 5: I'm here with Associate Attorney General of Vinita Gupta and
- 12:38Speaker 5: Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Doha Mecki. Our complaint alleges
- 12:43Speaker 5: that Jet blues proposed three point eight billion dollar acquisition
- 12:46Speaker 5: of Spirit violates Section seven of the Clayton Act.
- 12:51Speaker 4: We allege that, if allowed.
- 12:52Speaker 5: To proceed, this merger will limit choices and drive up
- 12:55Speaker 5: ticket prices for passengers across the country.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Their alleged that the impact of.
- 13:01Speaker 5: This merger will be particularly harmful for travelers who rely
- 13:05Speaker 5: on what are known as ultra low cost carriers in
- 13:09Speaker 5: order to fly. Those include working and middle class Americans
- 13:13Speaker 5: who travel for personal as opposed to business reasons.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And who must pay their own way.
- 13:19Speaker 5: By acquiring Spirit, JetBlue will eliminate the largest ultra low
- 13:24Speaker 5: cost carrier in the United States.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Literally, exactly what they said they were trying to stop
- 13:30Speaker 3: is exactly what they created. They said, if we allow
- 13:34Speaker 3: this to proceed, this mergeral limitoriest. Well, do we have
- 13:37Speaker 3: more or less choice today? After the shutting down of
- 13:41Speaker 3: Spirit Airlines?
- 13:42Speaker 4: We have less.
- 13:44Speaker 3: They said. It will drive up ticket prices, all right, Well,
- 13:46Speaker 3: ticket prices up or down with the failing of Spirit
- 13:49Speaker 3: Airlines and shutting down ticket price of Skyrocket for passengers
- 13:53Speaker 3: across the country. They further allege right this grand conspiracy,
- 13:57Speaker 3: that the impact of this merger will be particularly harmful
- 13:59Speaker 3: for TI travelers who rely on what's done as ultra
- 14:02Speaker 3: low cost carriers in order to fly. Do they have
- 14:05Speaker 3: a ultra low cost carrier to fly now that Spirit
- 14:07Speaker 3: to shut down? The answer is no. They didn't say
- 14:09Speaker 3: we were doing this stopping this merger because we got
- 14:13Speaker 3: to protect working and middle class Americans who travel for
- 14:16Speaker 3: personal as opposed to business reasons and who must pay
- 14:19Speaker 3: their own way. Well, do they have the ability to
- 14:22Speaker 3: do that now?
- 14:23Speaker 4: No?
- 14:24Speaker 3: And then they say, well, by acquiring Spirit, jet Blue
- 14:26Speaker 3: will eliminate the largest ultralow cost carrier in the United
- 14:29Speaker 3: States of America. Well, apparently Jet Blue didn't have the
- 14:31Speaker 3: right to do that. No, No, Instead, the government will do it.
- 14:36Speaker 3: The Biden administration is the one who eliminated Spirit Airlines.
- 14:40Speaker 3: You now have higher fees, fewer jobs, everything just got
- 14:45Speaker 3: more expensive. They say, well, we got to, you know,
- 14:49Speaker 3: just all to blame billionaires and millionaires. No, hardworking taxpayers,
- 14:53Speaker 3: hardworking Americans and those that need ultralow cost carrier got
- 14:57Speaker 3: screwed by Elizabeth Warren, by Joe Biden, by the man
- 15:01Speaker 3: you just heard there. And by the way, Mayor Pete,
- 15:03Speaker 3: let me let me remind you of Mayor Pete. Right,
- 15:06Speaker 3: this is the guy in charge, the same guy that
- 15:08Speaker 3: that you know didn't have like act like he needed
- 15:11Speaker 3: two months maternityle for however long he was gone two
- 15:13Speaker 3: three months when he adopted a child, didn't have a kid,
- 15:17Speaker 3: like he didn't birth the baby, but he But when
- 15:19Speaker 3: when there was actual crisis in the sky he was
- 15:22Speaker 3: on maternity leave. That same guy announcing the Biden administration's
- 15:27Speaker 3: decision decision to fight jet balloon spirit they didn't have
- 15:29Speaker 3: to like they jumped in And what did Pete say?
- 15:33Speaker 6: Listen, our department of the Department of Transportation has generally
- 15:37Speaker 6: not gotten involved in these merger cases, but that's changing today.
- 15:42Speaker 6: It is so important to make sure that passengers have choices,
- 15:47Speaker 6: that they have access to low fares, that they have
- 15:49Speaker 6: access to competition, and yet we've seen less and less
- 15:53Speaker 6: and less of that competition over the years. We are
- 15:56Speaker 6: taking a step that, again is unusual in terms of
- 15:59Speaker 6: recent years, but we think is the right thing to do,
- 16:02Speaker 6: supporting the DOJ's lawsuit and independently using our own authorities,
- 16:07Speaker 6: which are a little bit different from the DJ, starting
- 16:10Speaker 6: our own investigation and taking other actions.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Our own investigations and taking other actions. These people have
- 16:19Speaker 3: no clue how the private sector works. And Elizabeth Warren,
- 16:23Speaker 3: if you want to know who to blame. You start
- 16:24Speaker 3: with her. You have a socialist crusader that doesn't understand
- 16:27Speaker 3: the private sector, and they just did. They are so
- 16:31Speaker 3: proud to say, Yep, we just killed another forty thousand
- 16:35Speaker 3: American jobs. We just cost the American taxpayer literally billions
- 16:39Speaker 3: of dollars. That's what we're going to cost them, and
- 16:44Speaker 3: they're proud of it. Folks. They think that they somehow
- 16:47Speaker 3: accomplished it and that you're too stupid to realize what
- 16:49Speaker 3: they just did. They truly believe that you are too
- 16:54Speaker 3: stupid to understand that they just created this scenario. Never forget.
