- 1:18Speaker 1: we all have to be successful and a lot of
- 1:21Speaker 1: moments that we I want them to share because every

- 1:26Speaker 1: final product. The Money Making Conversation interviews provide relatable information
- 1:30Speaker 1: to the listener about career and financial planning, entrepreneurship, motivation, leadership,
- 1:34Speaker 1: overcoming the arts, and how to live a balanced life.

- 1:48Speaker 1: talk show, co host on The Real, comedian, entrepreneur, and actress.
- 1:52Speaker 1: She's on the show to talk about how very very
- 1:54Speaker 1: funny memoir I tried to change so you don't have
- 1:58Speaker 1: to please. Welcome to Money Making Converse again, Loney, Love time, Loney,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I'm telling you something. Let me just read this little
- 2:07Speaker 1: just what I took from the book, because I want
- 2:09Speaker 1: to such a stage before we started writing talking about
- 2:11Speaker 1: this very funny book and very funny book memoir and
- 2:15Speaker 1: reading this book just came from you. And reading this book,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you should remember that I am a comedian. I'm also
- 2:21Speaker 1: a television host and an actress and electrical engineer. This
- 2:24Speaker 1: is my memoir and tells you about my life, but
- 2:27Speaker 1: it's a tale told from a comedian perspective for comic perspective,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and I believe that this entitles me to a good
- 2:33Speaker 1: number of liberties. I reordered and combined events and people.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I changed a whole lot of names and identified details,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and I've exaggerated and made some things up. Altogether, I
- 2:44Speaker 1: hope make your smile or even laugh when I have
- 2:47Speaker 1: not changed the reality of my life, where I came
- 2:50Speaker 1: from and how I've got here today. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 2:54Speaker 1: loney love that's beautiful lot of you know. You know
- 3:05Speaker 1: you've been on this show before and I'm a big
- 3:07Speaker 1: fan of yours, and uh you know it always you know,
- 3:10Speaker 1: like I always call you a text you just to
- 3:14Speaker 1: let you know I love you and you're just a
- 3:16Speaker 1: gifted young lady, and never be down on yourself. And
- 3:19Speaker 1: I read this book is a journey from Detroit to Houston,
- 3:22Speaker 1: Texas to Elsa Gondo to Los Angeles. I guess it
- 3:30Speaker 1: all started in Detroit. Tell us about that the start,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and then I want to break down some of my
- 3:34Speaker 1: favorite chapters, like chapter eight when you were thrown in jail.
- 3:37Speaker 1: That's that has to be the funniest, the funniest chapter.
- 3:43Speaker 1: You know, I read a lot of books. Now just
- 3:45Speaker 1: tell I'm just telling. I'm talking to Loney Love. Now,
- 3:47Speaker 1: this is a book. Now, this is something more I
- 3:49Speaker 1: tried to change, so you don't have to. I'm telling you.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I just think everybody should tell their journey, and especially
- 3:58Speaker 1: people of color. People don't understand how hard it is
- 4:01Speaker 1: for us to make it. That's why I want everybody,
- 4:04Speaker 1: especially during the pandemic, to share their story, you know.
- 4:07Speaker 1: And so this is my story. I grew up in
- 4:09Speaker 1: Detroit and the Brewster Projects, and it just takes you
- 4:12Speaker 1: through that whole life thing. Because you know, some people
- 4:15Speaker 1: only know me from real or from Chelsea Lady, or
- 4:18Speaker 1: you know the shows that Rashan will put me on.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Um so, but you know, it's a whole journey, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: I just wanted the people to understand, you know, my
- 4:30Speaker 1: journey and why I appreciate where I am, why I'm
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm vulnerable at times, why I'm sensitive at times while
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm strong at times, Because the fact is that it
- 4:39Speaker 1: hasn't been an easy a road, and um, I also
- 4:43Speaker 1: wanted to inspire and give people some hopes. So that's
- 4:46Speaker 1: that's what you're reading. And it's it's just a love
- 4:48Speaker 1: letter to my fans, That's what it is. It's a
- 4:50Speaker 1: it's an honest letter. And the thing about it is
- 4:52Speaker 1: that I've read a lot of memoirs doing the show
- 4:54Speaker 1: money making conversations. But I love George because it was
- 4:58Speaker 1: just funny, but it's all so truthful. It was also painful.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It was also I was like, you know, I had
- 5:05Speaker 1: a reason to cry. I had a reason to feel
- 5:07Speaker 1: sorry for you. I had to read it's a root
- 5:08Speaker 1: for you. I had a reason to call you a fool.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You know, girl, that's stupid. Why do you do that?
- 5:14Speaker 1: And but one of the things that came out that
- 5:16Speaker 1: stood out for me, it was like you said, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 1: it was a point of your life where you were
- 5:19Speaker 1: surrounded by blackness. That's why I called in your book,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you mentioned it yourself surrounded by blackness protected you the
- 5:26Speaker 1: HBCU experienced a pre view and m the Black Sisters
- 5:31Speaker 1: of your soary dealt to say the THETA. It defined
- 5:34Speaker 1: the importance to me right now or why black lives
- 5:37Speaker 1: matter that little. When I got to that part of
- 5:39Speaker 1: the book, it just it just felt so current to
- 5:42Speaker 1: me and why it was important that you you you
- 5:45Speaker 1: you you experienced that HBCU experienced and being surrounded by
- 5:48Speaker 1: the sisterhood who built you out of jail, uh the
- 5:51Speaker 1: second day than they had you know, they had some
- 5:58Speaker 1: credit cards they to do that, and they you know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and I had to lean way on the shield that
- 6:04Speaker 1: that night almost that hard, which hunt. But it's just, um,
- 6:10Speaker 1: it's a wonderful story of how you know, at nineteen
- 6:14Speaker 1: years old, even though growing up in the projects, I
- 6:16Speaker 1: knew nothing about, um, the police because my mom always
- 6:20Speaker 1: protected me from that. You know, the police never came
- 6:22Speaker 1: into projects unless you know, somebody got shot. So I
- 6:26Speaker 1: didn't I didn't have this experience that I was in
- 6:29Speaker 1: college and I didn't realize, you know, I didn't have
- 6:31Speaker 1: to talk. I didn't know nothing about you know, uh,
- 6:35Speaker 1: racist cops and you know, I've never I've never experienced that.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So when I experienced it, and the story is so interesting.
- 6:43Speaker 1: It goes through the whole process of being arrested, you know,
- 6:46Speaker 1: going to the booking center. Um, because I was it
- 6:49Speaker 1: was a felony for trespasses walking in the kitchen. I
- 6:53Speaker 1: was putting us, you know, in a sale with you know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: murderers and felons and stuff like that. At nineteen years no,
- 7:00Speaker 1: with no experience. So it's it's it's and it's I'm
- 7:02Speaker 1: able to come out of it. But it really does
- 7:05Speaker 1: relate to what's happening today Rashan, Well, what's happening with
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know, um, the over police and of people, the
- 7:12Speaker 1: inequalities that police have against black people. And it's a
- 7:16Speaker 1: story that's relatable. It's finally here the season of celebration,
- 7:20Speaker 1: and no matter how you celebrate with family and friends,

- 9:13Speaker 1: dot ai. You know, the reason I liked the book
- 9:16Speaker 1: is that I kind of understand you're a lot more,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, because you really outspoken, and you, first of all,
- 9:22Speaker 1: you're coming from you know, when you're talking about prison
- 9:24Speaker 1: or jail or wrong flew incarcerated, or talk about being
- 9:29Speaker 1: called out by your name, racial statements thrown you away,
- 9:33Speaker 1: you know, and people don't really understand. That's why I
- 9:35Speaker 1: really when I look at the white people protesting of
- 9:39Speaker 1: watching it really makes me feel good. Maybe they're starting
- 9:41Speaker 1: to understand that this is not something we're making up,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you know, this is this is something that I know,
- 9:47Speaker 1: you can't ever relate to it because being a black
- 9:49Speaker 1: is an everyday challenge. I don't care what flag they
- 9:52Speaker 1: take down the NASCAR, what flag they take down in
- 9:55Speaker 1: message Mississippi, We're still gonna be challenged by our darkness,
- 10:00Speaker 1: color tone. And the thing about it in your book
- 10:03Speaker 1: when I would is the churches, and the church plays
- 10:06Speaker 1: a role Miss Evil jehovah witness, you know how she
- 10:09Speaker 1: built those Just talk about some of the ladies besides
- 10:12Speaker 1: your mom who played an import defining role in your
- 10:14Speaker 1: personnelt there, how you look at life, how you look
- 10:17Speaker 1: at love, how you look at relationships and all that stuff.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Talk about the other women that were important in your
- 10:21Speaker 1: life in this book. Well, the love that I developed
- 10:24Speaker 1: a black women came from my foundation. You know, I
- 10:27Speaker 1: had a baby because of her name was Miss Brooke.
- 10:29Speaker 1: She was Jehovah's witness who I spent a lot of
- 10:32Speaker 1: my time with. That's where I got my religious backing
- 10:35Speaker 1: from um. I had Miss Eva ice Cream Evil. Yeah,
- 10:41Speaker 1: even because she was a Bible sudden lady. You know.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I had my girl Scout troop leader. And these are
- 10:47Speaker 1: women that impacted me so much that they cared for
- 10:51Speaker 1: me and they could care me. And this was the
- 10:54Speaker 1: foundation that And I think that it's important when they
- 10:56Speaker 1: say a village it takes a village to raise the child,
- 11:00Speaker 1: It really really does. But then also is my relationship,
- 11:05Speaker 1: you know with um men in general was was actually
- 11:09Speaker 1: defined in that era as well. And you know, the
- 11:13Speaker 1: caring of black brothers and sisters, you know, was also
- 11:17Speaker 1: defined to that. So it's like when I meet people
- 11:21Speaker 1: like the fabulous Rashean McDonald, um, we're able to connect
- 11:25Speaker 1: because we're down home people, you know what I mean.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And so that's so all of this you can, you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: read about it in the book and you could really
- 11:33Speaker 1: see and feel the foundation. But I mean, the thing
- 11:37Speaker 1: if anybody I want them to take away from is
- 11:40Speaker 1: that if you feel hopeless, um, if you need some inspiration, UM,
- 11:45Speaker 1: understand that you are from a strong stock of people.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And we constantly prove it all the time. And I'm
- 11:52Speaker 1: just waiting on yr book. Rashan, Well, it's coming to
- 11:58Speaker 1: in this book. I'm telling that Bons and Noble. You
- 12:00Speaker 1: can get online right now. The book is on sale
- 12:02Speaker 1: right now. Please go out and buy. And the thing
- 12:04Speaker 1: that because it's it's some relatable things to me and
- 12:07Speaker 1: that I'm a male, but it's fairy relatable because this
- 12:09Speaker 1: book is by motivation, is by the inspired, it's overcoming
- 12:12Speaker 1: the arts. And one of the things was when she
- 12:14Speaker 1: came out of high school, you know, bright calling nerd.
- 12:17Speaker 1: My degree was in mathematics, so and her skill was mathematics.
- 12:20Speaker 1: She got a degree in electrical engineering and she just
- 12:23Speaker 1: went to work for you know, it was the gym gym,
- 12:27Speaker 1: or was one of the general motors, went on the line,
- 12:30Speaker 1: just just putting carpet, blewing carpet down. When I graduated
- 12:34Speaker 1: from high school, I became a funk clift driver, and
- 12:37Speaker 1: I thought that was my level. I thought that that's
- 12:39Speaker 1: it had it had a nice hourly check tie to it.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I thought that was my level. But somebody saw more,
- 12:45Speaker 1: more in me, more in me that I saw myself.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And that's really where mentoring comes in. That's why it's important.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I see the role that you play out there. I
- 12:55Speaker 1: see registering people to vote. I've seen how you realize
- 12:59Speaker 1: that look in your book. And then it talks about
- 13:02Speaker 1: accepting who you are when you're trying to lose all
- 13:06Speaker 1: that weight, trying to be something that you're not. And
- 13:08Speaker 1: that's really and I want to let people know that
- 13:11Speaker 1: this book is so relatable because it talks about issues
- 13:15Speaker 1: and trusting yourself and not listening to other people who
- 13:19Speaker 1: say you should be doing this. Trust to your it's
- 13:21Speaker 1: it's it's really an amazing story, very funny, but very
- 13:27Speaker 1: but very telling us to what we need to read
- 13:29Speaker 1: today to be motivated to be successful. Great job on
- 13:33Speaker 1: this book, great, great job. Appreciate it. I appreciate everybody
- 13:37Speaker 1: that's that's we're discovering it and reading about it. It's
- 13:40Speaker 1: great reviews. Amazon is the number one and Memoirs is
- 13:45Speaker 1: number one in comedy for new releases. So um, and again,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I can't wait to get your book. But we are
- 13:51Speaker 1: just parallel, and uh, you know when it comes to
- 13:54Speaker 1: being like that manual and how somebody came and helped us,
- 13:58Speaker 1: it's just it's a story, and I'm just thankful that
- 14:01Speaker 1: I'm able to live to still telling. And then we
- 14:04Speaker 1: and then and then we did something else. We were
- 14:06Speaker 1: musically inclined and we love classic music. See I was
- 14:10Speaker 1: a B flat claring that that was me, So you
- 14:13Speaker 1: you couldn't have that. You went over to the french horn.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And I'm gonna tell you something. I'm gonna tell anybody
- 14:17Speaker 1: that's about the french horn. That is the most difficult
- 14:20Speaker 1: instrument to play, because if you don't put your hands
- 14:23Speaker 1: in that right and more right, not a sound, because
- 14:26Speaker 1: you can just keep blowing on that thing forever. So
- 14:29Speaker 1: for you to go for you the walk pads be flat,
- 14:32Speaker 1: clearing that and go over to a French horn girl,
- 14:36Speaker 1: hands down, you are bad, sister, okay, And you could
- 14:41Speaker 1: also use it as a weapon. It's just beautiful. It's
- 14:46Speaker 1: just beautiful with the journey as we as we go
- 14:49Speaker 1: through this book, you know it was it was. Let
- 14:51Speaker 1: me just tell everybody about the book and it since
- 14:53Speaker 1: high breaks that it talks about the early years in
- 14:55Speaker 1: the projects and then they talked that's part of her life.
- 14:59Speaker 1: That's important, that first eighteen years, and then it talks
- 15:03Speaker 1: specifically about her college life, her friends, how she got
- 15:07Speaker 1: to college, how that played an important role, and each
- 15:10Speaker 1: look which one of those layers is defining for her
- 15:13Speaker 1: because you know, she didn't want to leave home when
- 15:15Speaker 1: she was asked to leave home, and then she wasn't
- 15:18Speaker 1: really ready to go to college, but she saw an
- 15:20Speaker 1: opportunity to go. She went. She learned how to pivot.
- 15:23Speaker 1: That this book is about pivoting too, because in this book,
- 15:26Speaker 1: Lennie is a great pivot. She's an opportunity. She going.
- 15:31Speaker 1: It's gonna give a lot of people pivot and it
- 15:34Speaker 1: kind of ease over that liney, you don't do that,
- 15:36Speaker 1: do you know. I really like telling the story, telling
- 15:44Speaker 1: the truth, but bringing levity at the end of every
- 15:47Speaker 1: chapter is a list of jokes because some stories in
- 15:51Speaker 1: the books are dark, some stories are sad, some stories
- 15:55Speaker 1: are really happy. But I want people to know that
- 15:57Speaker 1: after every chapter there's levity. And I think that that's
- 16:01Speaker 1: important because it shaped your your your frame of mind differently,
- 16:06Speaker 1: so to know that you can get out of anything,
- 16:08Speaker 1: even though it seems impossible, you could get out of anything.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And this is a story for men, women, young old.
- 16:16Speaker 1: If you're at a point in your life where you're
- 16:18Speaker 1: trying to reach and you kind of like you need
- 16:20Speaker 1: some motivations, you read this book, you know. I mean
- 16:23Speaker 1: if you're trying to find love, you know, I talk
- 16:26Speaker 1: about that where you need to you know, you get
- 16:30Speaker 1: in situations where you know things ain't working out or
- 16:34Speaker 1: you know, it's that's the part where really Rashwan, I
- 16:37Speaker 1: have to say, we were the chapter in Real Talk
- 16:40Speaker 1: where I really need on Rashawn to give me advice
- 16:44Speaker 1: and it really helped me to get through the situation
- 16:46Speaker 1: I was in my TV show and you know, understanding
- 16:50Speaker 1: the studio system, all of that is explained because you know,
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's real easy for people to see the front side
- 16:58Speaker 1: of certain things of television, show and things. They don't
- 17:01Speaker 1: understand the behind the scenes. Even way back, my first movie,
- 17:05Speaker 1: people don't you know, a lot of people don't know
- 17:08Speaker 1: that I was. My first movie was so playing and
- 17:11Speaker 1: definitely all thought it was gonna make us all a star,
- 17:14Speaker 1: Kevin Hart, Monique, all of them. You know, it tells
- 17:20Speaker 1: the whole The whole story is explained, but it's all
- 17:23Speaker 1: And I have so many more stories. But you know,
- 17:26Speaker 1: because I keep a diary, and I tell anybody you
- 17:29Speaker 1: know right now we're living in historic times, keep a
- 17:32Speaker 1: diary or a journal, and you know, so that you
- 17:35Speaker 1: can look back in five years and see where you
- 17:37Speaker 1: come from and what you were dealing with. So these
- 17:40Speaker 1: are like just a few stories that I put together
- 17:43Speaker 1: and it kind of tells the stories, the beginning story,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and it's just something that I'm just I'm just amazed
- 17:49Speaker 1: at people, and I'm grateful that people see it and
