In which we find that both the thoughtful Socialist and the earnest Practical Man, though differing in aims and awareness, are driving society towards a new order that tidily regulates the lives of the many without truly unsettling the privilege of the few. Meanwhile, the very people subject to these reforms, the proletariat, bear memories of former freedom and property yet are gradually resigned to a condition where ownership is no longer their aspiration but a distant, fading tradition.
