- 2:21Speaker 1: my man, James Burner. All right, thank you for having
- 2:25Speaker 1: me on, Rashaan glad to be here with you. First
- 2:27Speaker 1: of all, you know, we all know when the middle
- 2:29Speaker 1: of a pandemic, and let's be consist to have a
- 2:31Speaker 1: serious conversation. I have a brother who has three barbershops
- 2:36Speaker 1: and one beauty salon in the DC Maryland area, and
- 2:39Speaker 1: so of course you know when the pandemic hit impacted
- 2:43Speaker 1: and still he's made many many adjustments to try to reopen,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and of course he's nowhere near where the business uh
- 2:51Speaker 1: was prior to the pandemic. You are you, You are
- 2:54Speaker 1: a voice. You are a brand that uh that is
- 2:57Speaker 1: uh kind of like a voice of this industry. Tell
- 3:00Speaker 1: us about the overall impact of what COVID has had
- 3:03Speaker 1: on the beauty in barber industry for African Americans. It's
- 3:08Speaker 1: had a very heavy impact as you can imagine. Um.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I talked with one barber not too long ago, and
- 3:17Speaker 1: he was saying that he's had a shop for over
- 3:19Speaker 1: thirty years and it was just demoralizing to him because
- 3:23Speaker 1: he said, he's always worked, he has a strong work
- 3:26Speaker 1: after he's always gotten up early in the morning and
- 3:28Speaker 1: worked until late in the evening. And this is the
- 3:31Speaker 1: first time since he's been a teenager that he was
- 3:34Speaker 1: not able to use his god given craft and it
- 3:38Speaker 1: just he just said, this was I mean, it just
- 3:40Speaker 1: had him literally in tears. He didn't know how to function.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And he said, you know, even he had clients cash
- 3:45Speaker 1: apping the money just to stay afloat, but he said
- 3:48Speaker 1: even that that it just wasn't the same because he
- 3:50Speaker 1: wasn't able to do anything. So it's it's really been
- 3:53Speaker 1: hard and it's going to be a long term impact
- 3:57Speaker 1: because estimating at least twenty or cent of these shops
- 4:01Speaker 1: will not be opening back up. So it is a
- 4:05Speaker 1: very difficult situation for a lot of industries, but especially
- 4:09Speaker 1: our industry. And it's the other unique thing about it
- 4:12Speaker 1: is is you're not able to actually work six ft apart,
- 4:18Speaker 1: so you know, restaurants, you can keep your distance a
- 4:20Speaker 1: little bit. But if you're doing someone's hair, whether it's
- 4:23Speaker 1: barbering or cosmetology, you know you have to be hands
- 4:26Speaker 1: on with that. But we did produce videos to show
- 4:29Speaker 1: them how to do that in the safest manner. The
- 4:33Speaker 1: good thing is that they did release a report last week.
- 4:37Speaker 1: They had a two stylists working together that both tested positive.
- 4:43Speaker 1: They had a hundred and thirty something clients that they
- 4:45Speaker 1: had done during that time when they were positive. But
- 4:48Speaker 1: because they followed all of their precautions on both sides
- 4:52Speaker 1: where their mask, uh, they were not one of those
- 4:55Speaker 1: hundred and thirty something clients that actually got the virus.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So that was good. Knew that it relieved the industry
- 5:03Speaker 1: a little bit. Uh seeing that case study, well you
- 5:05Speaker 1: know it's really important that you say that. So it
- 5:07Speaker 1: means that I'm assuming that they were masked and the
- 5:11Speaker 1: and the customer wore a mask. Okay, And then like
- 5:15Speaker 1: my brother he's like, put, like this is just him
- 5:17Speaker 1: what he's done in d C. He's put like, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: clear shower curtains in between each station to try to
- 5:24Speaker 1: get some symbols of isolation, so you in conversation or whatever,
- 5:29Speaker 1: you wouldn't pass Uh, he's done things on a reservation
- 5:32Speaker 1: only basis, Uh, not allowing multiple people in the studio
- 5:38Speaker 1: at one time. And the reason we were saying that
- 5:39Speaker 1: because according to the CDC, African Americans have been dis
- 5:42Speaker 1: supportingly impacted by COVID nirteen and black barbers and styles
- 5:48Speaker 1: and make up a continent of your show and which
- 5:51Speaker 1: is generally about thirty people attend your show. So that
- 5:55Speaker 1: being said, what was when you when you start, when
- 5:58Speaker 1: you start as a business person, I'm just you know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: you're talking about the business because we all had to pivot,
- 6:02Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, James, We all have to
- 6:04Speaker 1: things go walk an't do it like that or you
- 6:06Speaker 1: try to hold in and hope and pray that the
- 6:08Speaker 1: situation gets better. When you started not to get better?
- 6:13Speaker 1: What went through your team minding? When did you start
- 6:16Speaker 1: making the change? We have to go virtual team. We
- 6:19Speaker 1: can't do this live. But first of all, we were
- 6:23Speaker 1: highly blessed to make it through our last shelf, which
- 6:26Speaker 1: was in February. We were in februwhere and we actually
- 6:34Speaker 1: had about fifteen vendors that Don had already paid that
- 6:38Speaker 1: could not exhibit because they were coming from China. So
- 6:42Speaker 1: that that was when the travel had just gotten blocked.
- 6:45Speaker 1: And then we had others that were worried about being
- 6:48Speaker 1: among them, so we were able to calm them down
- 6:50Speaker 1: and say, hey, the Chinese are not able to come
- 6:52Speaker 1: in because of the travel band, but they felt more
- 6:55Speaker 1: comfortable coming in. So had it had it been two
- 6:58Speaker 1: or three weeks later, it would have really impacted us then.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So from there we we kind of just looked at
- 7:05Speaker 1: the data from week to week, and when we we
- 7:10Speaker 1: saw it kind of going even through the hotter weeks,
- 7:15Speaker 1: we were really worried that it wouldn't go away, like
- 7:20Speaker 1: the President said when the heat came. So we we
- 7:23Speaker 1: looked at the data and and and we we knew
- 7:26Speaker 1: people had to make travel arrangements, so we said we
- 7:30Speaker 1: would rather be on the front end of this thing.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And if we go virtual, it's not something that we
- 7:35Speaker 1: have done before. It's gonna take time to make that pivot,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and we had to renegotiate hotel contracts and the conference center,
- 7:43Speaker 1: so that a lot of moving pieces involved. We have
- 7:46Speaker 1: a lot of partners who set up booze and do
- 7:49Speaker 1: a v and all of that for us, so it
- 7:51Speaker 1: wasn't just us, but it was a lot of partners,
- 7:54Speaker 1: a lot of jobs on the line, So we we
- 7:57Speaker 1: looked at it and then we knew we were being
- 8:00Speaker 1: disproportionately affected. So we didn't want to be a guinea pig,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, for how large conventions and gatherings handle this pandemic.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So we made the decision for the long term that
- 8:15Speaker 1: we want to keep our people safe, and we went
- 8:18Speaker 1: ahead as as early as possible and made that decision
- 8:22Speaker 1: to go over the virtual So we've been working on
- 8:24Speaker 1: that now, uh for probably six weeks, and we will
- 8:30Speaker 1: will be open line for registration within the next week.
- 8:34Speaker 1: When you get that that that registration, please give me
- 8:36Speaker 1: a banner so I can post it for you, because
- 8:38Speaker 1: that's how that's how we're gonna win here, James. We
- 8:40Speaker 1: have to win together, you know, we have to be
- 8:43Speaker 1: able to network, we have to have understand that as
- 8:46Speaker 1: a community. This is a community interview because of the
- 8:49Speaker 1: fact that I know I have a brother who's involved.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I'm African Americans. I know the African American I know
- 8:54Speaker 1: I have to mask up. I'm not listening to these
- 8:56Speaker 1: people out here talking about not wearing a mask. You know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: we are being vertly affected when the when the CDC
- 9:02Speaker 1: came out in April. Eight out of ten people who
- 9:04Speaker 1: had coronavirus in Atlanta were African Americans. That's right, that's right,
- 9:09Speaker 1: and that information is not being put out there, and
- 9:11Speaker 1: so you have to deal with that, juggle with with
- 9:14Speaker 1: with an audience that's being suffering financially and then being misinformed.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And then I love this quote that you I got
- 9:22Speaker 1: I pulled off your website, James. I want to say
- 9:24Speaker 1: that you Barber's and Stylus do more than cut and
- 9:27Speaker 1: style our hair. They are trusted advisors, friends and entrepreneurs,
- 9:31Speaker 1: our extended family. Their shops also offer a safe haven
- 9:35Speaker 1: and a hub for our community in the midst of
- 9:37Speaker 1: this unpredictable feminine They deserve our support. Wow. Yeah yeah.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And along with that, we started a beauty UH and
- 9:47Speaker 1: barber release funds and we did get with some of
- 9:50Speaker 1: our partners and raise money for them, and those checks
- 9:53Speaker 1: are gone out now, so we had a lot of
- 9:55Speaker 1: people to apply that would give them five hundred to
- 9:58Speaker 1: a thousand dollars of extra stimulus. So that's another thing
- 10:01Speaker 1: that we did beside the training video, and we also
- 10:05Speaker 1: began to try to help them source of this ppe
- 10:08Speaker 1: material because that's that was another thing like when the
- 10:12Speaker 1: hand sanitizer ran out, you know, how are you gonna
- 10:16Speaker 1: help your clients when you can't even sanitize your hands
- 10:19Speaker 1: and sanitize their hands coming in. So we actually when
- 10:23Speaker 1: this thing first hit, the other pivot we had to do.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You know a lot of the beautyum and barber stores
- 10:29Speaker 1: were closed, so our products sales dropped in half as
- 10:32Speaker 1: a company. So you know, we hire, we employed over
- 10:36Speaker 1: a hundred people are pretty much all African Americans, so
- 10:39Speaker 1: that was another internal impact for the community. So in
- 10:43Speaker 1: order to keep those jobs going. Yeah, we we looked
- 10:46Speaker 1: at what we had and what we could do, and
- 10:48Speaker 1: we did have alcohol from some of our products like
- 10:51Speaker 1: Pump it Up, So we began to take those alcohol
- 10:54Speaker 1: tanks and went in the lab and and created hand
- 10:57Speaker 1: sanitizer that was moisturizing and again to send that out
- 11:01Speaker 1: to the stylusts and the barber's as well. You're selling online,
- 11:05Speaker 1: James said, yes, yeah, you can get that at Brunner
- 11:09Speaker 1: Brothers dot com as well as the virtual show as well,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and that the product is called Journalists. So we yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 1: we have two versions. We've got a jail and then
- 11:19Speaker 1: we also have a four rex formula that has four functions.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So because in the shops they have to spray down
- 11:26Speaker 1: not only clean their hands, but they have to clean
- 11:29Speaker 1: the equipment and the chairs and the door handles, so
- 11:32Speaker 1: they can spray their equipment and the mirrors and the chairs.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So that's a spray formula. So that we've got we've
- 11:38Speaker 1: got two versions there. Wow. Well you know you gotta
- 11:41Speaker 1: went to Georgia Tech. You know, scholarship you know, and
- 11:45Speaker 1: degreed engineer. My degree is in mathematics, so so you
- 11:48Speaker 1: ain a path now beauty and barbera. But you then
- 11:51Speaker 1: you just spilled all that chemical chemistry information in front
- 11:54Speaker 1: of just you know, just let me know, I'm talking
- 11:56Speaker 1: to an engineer here. Did you you know that knowledge?
- 11:59Speaker 1: You know? I always tell people, man, you know that
- 12:02Speaker 1: you know you could always be on the journey. It
- 12:03Speaker 1: iss not saying that you know, we just do one
- 12:06Speaker 1: on any opportunity that's given to you. That's what that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: that's a firm belief in my DNA. And when I
- 12:12Speaker 1: when I looked through your resume, it was throughout the
- 12:15Speaker 1: whole thing that you basically have been a serial entrepreneurs
- 12:17Speaker 1: as a young kid and then to go to college
- 12:20Speaker 1: and we all know Georgia Tech. You you best be
- 12:23Speaker 1: on your on your best academic behavior up at Georgia Tech.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Talk about that journey and then then coming into the business,
- 12:33Speaker 1: the brother brother business which has been aroused is what
- 12:35Speaker 1: in eighteen four seven? That's correct? Okay, So my father
- 12:40Speaker 1: he vision father, Okay, yeah, yeah. So so he had
- 12:46Speaker 1: he had kind of a three pronged priority system that
- 12:50Speaker 1: he ran his life by and that was God first,
- 12:52Speaker 1: family second, and business third. And that was very instrumental
- 12:56Speaker 1: in our organization because he put his family above the business.
- 13:01Speaker 1: And that made a difference in the longevity. When I
- 13:04Speaker 1: counsel entrepreneurs sometimes and they asked me about, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: how we did you know, seventy something years, and you know,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I would tell him, if you want to have a
- 13:12Speaker 1: successful business for you know, ten, the twenty years, and
- 13:16Speaker 1: you need to have a great product of service, But
- 13:19Speaker 1: if you want to go fifty, seventy a hundred years,
- 13:21Speaker 1: you need a great and strong family because you're only
- 13:25Speaker 1: going to be able worker for so long. So if
- 13:27Speaker 1: you want multigenerational you you do have to focus on
- 13:31Speaker 1: that next generation and train them. And that was the
- 13:34Speaker 1: mindset that my father was in. I remember another entrepreneur
- 13:38Speaker 1: asked him when he was approaching eighty. He was like,
- 13:42Speaker 1: you know, what, what would happen to Brunner brothers if
- 13:45Speaker 1: you die one day? And he thought about it, he said,
- 13:47Speaker 1: what do you mean if he's I'm gonna die one day?
- 13:50Speaker 1: So he understood that. He began to train us from
- 13:53Speaker 1: an early age, and uh, we started in business. Actually
- 13:59Speaker 1: I started that five years old with the paper rock.
- 14:01Speaker 1: So he wanted us. He didn't want us to just
- 14:04Speaker 1: start in the office and skip a lot of the steps.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Started at five or the paper rot. Before I knew
- 14:10Speaker 1: how to ride a bicycle, I had to walk it
- 14:12Speaker 1: before school in the morning. Then when we started in
- 14:15Speaker 1: the company, he started us on the lowest levels, sweeping
- 14:18Speaker 1: the floors, to putting stick us on the cap, to
- 14:21Speaker 1: the selling jars. And he worked us all the way through.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So I worked in the counting one summer, the lab
- 14:27Speaker 1: one summer, shipping one summer, with the salesman one summer.
- 14:32Speaker 1: So he gave us a range of experience throughout the
- 14:35Speaker 1: business so we would understand each department. We would appreciate
- 14:39Speaker 1: the employees and and really know what they're doing. So
- 14:43Speaker 1: that was kind of our upbringing. He never gave us
- 14:46Speaker 1: an allowance, so we had to earn everything. So so
- 14:49Speaker 1: that gave us an appreciation for money. UM he would
- 14:53Speaker 1: teach us to invest that money to help it grow.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So so that's that was kind of our upbringing. And
- 14:59Speaker 1: that's so that gave me a good work ethic in school.
- 15:03Speaker 1: I went to Benjamin Elijah Maize Middle School, I mean
- 15:07Speaker 1: high school rather UM, which is all black school here
- 15:11Speaker 1: in Atlanta. That work ethic from the business helped me
- 15:14Speaker 1: to graduate as the top black mail in my class.
- 15:17Speaker 1: And that helps with a scholarship at Georgia Tech and UM,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I was able to use that UM that degree within
- 15:24Speaker 1: computer engineering, so I brought that into the business. Computer
- 15:28Speaker 1: You're gonna brag even more. You know you're gonna work
- 15:31Speaker 1: not just engineering though, Jan computer engineer. See see my
- 15:35Speaker 1: degree in mathematics. I was in that engineering course. I'm
- 15:39Speaker 1: gonna Jane, but physics took me out. Physics took me.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So if you ever see me, you always say, my boy,
- 15:47Speaker 1: you couldn't have that physics. So I have to tell
- 15:49Speaker 1: you it's finally here the season of celebration, and no

- 17:46Speaker 1: E R dot ai. All right, James, you know you
- 17:49Speaker 1: told about several weeks ago, about six weeks ago, you
- 17:52Speaker 1: guys say, hey, we're gonna pivot, We're gonna go virtual.
- 17:55Speaker 1: What was the early planning stages? Because virtual sounds simple.
- 18:00Speaker 1: You still had exhibitors, right, and you know it's a
- 18:04Speaker 1: lot going on for for for for this event to
- 18:08Speaker 1: go online. So the team, let's talk about that team chemistry.
- 18:12Speaker 1: You just have to pull together because it's a difference
- 18:14Speaker 1: in having a physical event. You go where the booth
- 18:16Speaker 1: go there, the boot go there, people come through this door.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You've about the ticket, so now you have to sell
- 18:21Speaker 1: it a different way. That's right, that's right. So it's
- 18:24Speaker 1: definitely been a learning experience and a shifting experience for
- 18:28Speaker 1: the entire team because because computers and technology was my
- 18:33Speaker 1: native field, that actually worked to my advantage. So we're
- 18:37Speaker 1: about the only show out that that had a director
- 18:41Speaker 1: that actless field was in computer So I worked that
- 18:44Speaker 1: out even though that know, you know who I was
- 18:46Speaker 1: going to need it, and the feutres beautiful, I didn't
- 18:48Speaker 1: know such a time as this was comment but so
- 18:52Speaker 1: that that came in handy. So the first stage was
- 18:55Speaker 1: really finding the technology platform and partner that would be
- 19:00Speaker 1: to support us in the virtual world to try to
- 19:03Speaker 1: mimic as close to possible the physical world. For the
- 19:06Speaker 1: first thing I had to do was look at all
- 19:09Speaker 1: of the platforms out there and stam technology and you
- 19:13Speaker 1: go all stream y'all. Went through probably the thirty to
- 19:18Speaker 1: forty platforms myself, and then because I had a vision
- 19:22Speaker 1: of what I wanted, I didn't want them to just
- 19:24Speaker 1: have an experience like Zoom, but I actually wanted them
- 19:27Speaker 1: to have something that they hadn't seen before that was
- 19:30Speaker 1: a more three D because we're a visual industry. So actually,
- 19:34Speaker 1: so we're creating something that's gonna look like the sims
- 19:37Speaker 1: or You'll have these avatars and we even paid extra
- 19:41Speaker 1: to have them our skin tones so we could be
- 19:44Speaker 1: reflected accurately and with clothes and everything, so we would
- 19:48Speaker 1: be to make it look like our people. I feel
- 19:50Speaker 1: like our show from our building, we're normally end So
- 19:54Speaker 1: you'll be to walk in with this little avatar, and
- 19:58Speaker 1: then you'll be to choose where you want to go,
- 20:00Speaker 1: whether it be the exhibit hall, classes, competitions, and and
- 20:05Speaker 1: and and once you go in the exhibit home, you'll
- 20:08Speaker 1: have these three D bulls represented from each exhibitor. Let's
- 20:12Speaker 1: let's go down, James, So I want I want to
- 20:14Speaker 1: break it down because you know, you know, you know
- 20:16Speaker 1: what you're doing, you know, And so the first part
- 20:18Speaker 1: is let you tell everybody breaking it all down. So
- 20:22Speaker 1: I can't let you just you know, just slide through
- 20:24Speaker 1: like you're talking to the staff, all of experts. Okay,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I've got a lot of people in this call here, bro,
- 20:28Speaker 1: don't know what you're talking about. Okay, So you know
- 20:33Speaker 1: he is the beauty of you know, because I feel
- 20:35Speaker 1: you know, I've I've come since the money making conversation
- 20:38Speaker 1: that I've become like a pandemic expert. And one of
- 20:41Speaker 1: the blessings out of it for African American has been
- 20:45Speaker 1: the use of technology. Okay, we have had to accept
- 20:48Speaker 1: the responsibility of educating ourselves and learning that this was
- 20:53Speaker 1: a tool we probably should have been doing all along.
- 20:56Speaker 1: And the reason reason I say that is that you know,
- 20:59Speaker 1: you've had two physical events annually ever since I've been
- 21:03Speaker 1: knowing you. Now you got this virtual event. This almost
- 21:07Speaker 1: feels like it's gonna be two plus a virtual every
- 21:10Speaker 1: year moving forward. Correct. That's that's where we got to see.
- 21:15Speaker 1: So we because we've never done it, We're gonna see
- 21:17Speaker 1: how this turns out. If it turns out really well
- 21:20Speaker 1: and people want it, yeah, we will add a virtue. Yeah,
- 21:23Speaker 1: because you know, because now you know that could be
- 21:24Speaker 1: like because in that shop. Reason to say that is
- 21:27Speaker 1: that it may not be as massive as this, but
- 21:30Speaker 1: you know that heavy shopping and that November December time
- 21:33Speaker 1: frame could be a beautiful thing. If this works out
- 21:36Speaker 1: the way you're gonna do it, because once the pandemic
- 21:39Speaker 1: comes down, we're gonna go back to the physical exhibits.
- 21:42Speaker 1: That's the beauty of the car. If you've never been
- 21:44Speaker 1: to a Brother Brothers, that's the beauty of going to
- 21:46Speaker 1: a Brother Brothers, just going up and down the aisle
- 21:48Speaker 1: and sending this activity and that big old stage and
- 21:51Speaker 1: all this stuff that's going on. But now we're going virtual.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I went to the website and at the at the
- 21:57Speaker 1: on the front of the US a slider and I
- 22:00Speaker 1: wrote down each one of the sliders I want to
- 22:02Speaker 1: talk about, and he's one of these sliders, said this
- 22:04Speaker 1: is what's going to happen at this year's event, and
- 22:07Speaker 1: the first lid I said, multistate c EU credits, educate skills,
- 22:13Speaker 1: and build your business. Tell us what that's all about. So,
- 22:17Speaker 1: once you get a cosmetology license, you are required to
- 22:21Speaker 1: get these continuing education hours in order to keep your
- 22:25Speaker 1: license active on different states have different regulations, so you'll
- 22:29Speaker 1: be able to with the virtual show take those classes
- 22:32Speaker 1: that will give you credit to be able to keep
- 22:35Speaker 1: your license active. So that's what those CEU classes are. Yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 1: my wife she goes and she's an optometrist, and so
- 22:42Speaker 1: she has to go to these she has to I'm
- 22:44Speaker 1: assuming this is exactly what in order to keep our license,
- 22:47Speaker 1: she has to go through these different seminars. And if
- 22:49Speaker 1: you and you have to get credit for or they're
- 22:52Speaker 1: taking all your life is or suspend your your use.
- 22:56Speaker 1: And so now it's just something that you've always done
- 22:58Speaker 1: at the event, or it's just something that you're looking
- 23:01Speaker 1: at it now it's something you may offer in a
- 23:03Speaker 1: virtual format in the future. Yeah, we do have those
- 23:08Speaker 1: classes at the physical shows. So we always have a
- 23:11Speaker 1: certain selection because we don't want people to have to
- 23:13Speaker 1: look and go somewhere else to try to find a
- 23:16Speaker 1: college or something to go take them. So we make
- 23:18Speaker 1: it convenient where you can get you continuing education credit
- 23:22Speaker 1: classes there. We know there was it was something I
- 23:24Speaker 1: learned about it, but I didn't know really the the
- 23:30Speaker 1: average Brother Brothers shows, like what is it three days? Correct? Okay,
- 23:35Speaker 1: the first day is like education, right, it focuses on it. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 1: and and that that was something I didn't know. So really,
- 23:43Speaker 1: when I think that's that's important that people understand that
- 23:47Speaker 1: the event is about education, is also about the everybody
- 23:50Speaker 1: the headlines, get the hair show, the products and all that,
- 23:53Speaker 1: but there's a day that's dedicated right there to educate people,
- 23:57Speaker 1: especially African Americans and the beauty and in bar re feels,
- 24:00Speaker 1: I think, do you think a moment to expound on that?
- 24:02Speaker 1: Because I didn't know about that, and when I found
- 24:05Speaker 1: out about it, I just took a deeper and go, wow,
- 24:08Speaker 1: that's powerful and and that's something that we want people to,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you know, stay refreshing the skills, and that's true. We're
- 24:15Speaker 1: almost with any fields. So if you don't continually learn,
- 24:18Speaker 1: your fall behind. So we focus on education so that um,
- 24:23Speaker 1: the stylusts can take their careers to another level and
- 24:27Speaker 1: then take their clients to another level. And we do
- 24:30Speaker 1: it holistically because sometimes our community, you know, they don't
- 24:34Speaker 1: get the money training, the health training, the relationship training.
- 24:37Speaker 1: So we don't just do hair, skin and nail classes,
- 24:43Speaker 1: but we also you know, teach you how to improve
- 24:46Speaker 1: your credit and you know how to save and invest
- 24:49Speaker 1: your money because we've seen so many throughout the years
- 24:52Speaker 1: style is making you know, six figures, but yet retiring
- 24:55Speaker 1: without any savings, right, and that just breaks our heart.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So we so we do bring in financial teachers. We
- 25:02Speaker 1: do teach them, uh legal things, we do teach them
- 25:06Speaker 1: health things. Actually did Gregor. He used to come every
- 25:09Speaker 1: year and teach our health class. So so we wanted
- 25:13Speaker 1: to be holistic to just uplift the community. And also
- 25:17Speaker 1: because you know, they are the advisors to the community.
- 25:21Speaker 1: So people come in and talk about health wives, what
- 25:23Speaker 1: all they have going on, They talk about their relationships
- 25:26Speaker 1: in the chair. One time I did a message called
- 25:28Speaker 1: one Swiveling Pew and I talked about they might not
- 25:31Speaker 1: have a big church, but they got one pew with
- 25:33Speaker 1: one person at the times at swevel So so so
- 25:37Speaker 1: we want to educate them so they can go back
- 25:39Speaker 1: and educate the community. And we have over a hundred
- 25:42Speaker 1: classes per Shaw. Now it was something that really caught
- 25:45Speaker 1: by You said three hundred companies was up to three
- 25:49Speaker 1: hund company will still exhibit doing the virtual show? Is
- 25:54Speaker 1: that correct? Yes, and we're still working on those numbers,
- 25:58Speaker 1: so it'll be nfre from one fifty to three hundred.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And first of all, still amazing. How does that work?
- 26:06Speaker 1: I wanted to bring it up, how does that work
- 26:08Speaker 1: if a person listened to my show because it's gonna
- 26:11Speaker 1: air prior to September twenty seven, twenty eight. How could
- 26:15Speaker 1: they be a part of and how would this show virtually?
- 26:20Speaker 1: So everything will be at Brunner Brothers dot com and
- 26:23Speaker 1: it'll show basically you will have this this three D
- 26:26Speaker 1: looking booth where you'll be able to customize it with
- 26:28Speaker 1: your company's graphics. And then you will be able to
- 26:32Speaker 1: have my online store built in. So we already have
- 26:35Speaker 1: the credit card process and built into your booth, and
- 26:38Speaker 1: you'll be the loads of products and put your show deals,
- 26:41Speaker 1: and you'll be to load your your videos, your handouts
- 26:44Speaker 1: and PDF. So people that have these virtual swag bags,
- 26:48Speaker 1: they can come by click on your implication, see your video,
- 26:52Speaker 1: see your your your handouts, see your show deals, purchase
- 26:55Speaker 1: them right there and you get the money on your bank. Now.
- 26:58Speaker 1: They want to talk to you then, and they will
- 27:00Speaker 1: be to click one of three things that you're booth.
- 27:02Speaker 1: There will be to click and do a video chat
- 27:04Speaker 1: with you and be right there at your home office
- 27:07Speaker 1: or and there will be at the video talk with
- 27:10Speaker 1: your salespeople, or they'll be able to do audio or text.
- 27:13Speaker 1: So those are the three ways you'll be to communicate
- 27:17Speaker 1: from exhibitor to consumer. That's beautiful Now I gotta go
- 27:20Speaker 1: to the big the big show stopper here, the world
- 27:23Speaker 1: famous hair battles always had the biggest crowds. I always
- 27:28Speaker 1: had the biggest crowds. Now I knew if you go virtual,
- 27:33Speaker 1: you had to come with the hair battle. Tell everybody
- 27:35Speaker 1: it's gonna be live. It's gonna be live. Tell everybody.
- 27:38Speaker 1: How you breaking that down? James, Come on, now, get
- 27:40Speaker 1: it's excited, all right? So the hair about it, it
- 27:42Speaker 1: involves a lot of props and a lot of things.
- 27:44Speaker 1: So we're actually not gonna be able to do what
- 27:47Speaker 1: we normally do. So what we're gonna do is go
- 27:50Speaker 1: back through the last ten years and of hair battles
- 27:54Speaker 1: and we're gonna pull out those most eye inspiring presentations
- 27:58Speaker 1: and we're gonna put all of those together. That's like
- 28:00Speaker 1: the best of the best. So you might have missed
- 28:03Speaker 1: years and you'll be able that we're gonna go back
- 28:05Speaker 1: and put those in the one streaming hair Battle, the
- 28:08Speaker 1: best of the best theories you're gonna host. Um, well,
- 28:13Speaker 1: they had a lot of them, had built in the
- 28:15Speaker 1: host so we'll we'll use those hosts, uh like. Tamar
- 28:19Speaker 1: Braxton hosted one of the labs one so if they
- 28:21Speaker 1: had different hosts, So we'll incorporate some of that in
- 28:23Speaker 1: the East. Come you gotta you gotta have a host. Though,
- 28:25Speaker 1: it's like it's like just a just an energized person
- 28:29Speaker 1: right there, just talking about if you miss this half
- 28:32Speaker 1: ta tell them what they missed. Come on table, tell
- 28:35Speaker 1: them what you gotta have that because let's just tell
- 28:38Speaker 1: you so, man, the hair battle, your half battle is
- 28:41Speaker 1: the is the bomb of the show. You know. Okay,
- 28:44Speaker 1: So but I know what you you just said A
- 28:47Speaker 1: technical guy just spoke there, Okay, Jane, Now this is
- 28:52Speaker 1: an energize creative guy talking to you. Everything you said,
- 28:57Speaker 1: everything you said, go work. But you gotta have that
- 29:00Speaker 1: that that that one little spark plug. They're gonna bring
- 29:03Speaker 1: them all the name. Are y'all ready? Come on, come on,
- 29:05Speaker 1: are y'all ready for the show? Are y'all ready for
- 29:07Speaker 1: the show. We're gonna take you to the north. We're
- 29:09Speaker 1: gonna take you to the We're gonna take you to
- 29:11Speaker 1: the South. We take get everything. But right here, that's
- 29:14Speaker 1: all I'm asking. Everything you said is beautiful. Just put
- 29:18Speaker 1: a host, put a fantastic host, just to just can
- 29:21Speaker 1: keep everybody energized and give those little nuggets. When they
- 29:24Speaker 1: come back to him, he's gonna throw them to the
- 29:27Speaker 1: she will throw them to the next location. Now I
- 29:30Speaker 1: got excited because I gotta go to the next category
- 29:33Speaker 1: be entertained with comedy and music. Yeah, so we're gonna
- 29:39Speaker 1: have live g d J. And that's for you. Also,
- 29:43Speaker 1: your comedic host come in. We're a little safe. Don't
- 29:48Speaker 1: make it like that's on the same page. It's on
- 29:51Speaker 1: the same page. We don't. You don't think about it.
- 29:58Speaker 1: You don't think about it. You know, I love your brand.
- 30:01Speaker 1: You know I love your brother. You know we do.
- 30:03Speaker 1: We always run into Vegas somewhere we're gonna run into
- 30:06Speaker 1: each other. And uh, and we've always wanted to say
- 30:09Speaker 1: we're gonna do business one day together. And we and
- 30:12Speaker 1: and I want to just say I'm I'm launching a
- 30:14Speaker 1: new platform called HBC Awards, recognizing that the HBC used
- 30:20Speaker 1: for the academics, but I'm also recognizing what I can
- 30:23Speaker 1: tell the community, pillars, churches, barbers and beauty salons and
- 30:30Speaker 1: and because like as you stay, That's why I was
- 30:33Speaker 1: so moved by your statement, because you and people ask me,
- 30:35Speaker 1: why are you doing that? Rest I said, because people
- 30:37Speaker 1: don't really understand the value appreciate the values for black
- 30:41Speaker 1: barber and beauty salons due to the community and how
- 30:44Speaker 1: they affect the community and how they will always be
- 30:47Speaker 1: staples of the community. I don't care if they move,
- 30:49Speaker 1: if they're in a white neighborhood and Black people in
- 30:51Speaker 1: that neighborhood and the barbershop talking and communicating. And so
- 30:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep you. Once I finished my web somethe,
- 30:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna send it to you, and somehow I want
- 31:01Speaker 1: us to start uh shaking sha shaking each other's hands,
- 31:05Speaker 1: because what you do and what I've done with the
- 31:07Speaker 1: Neighborhood Awards and what I'm about to do with the
- 31:09Speaker 1: HBCU Awards, I feel go hand in hand and with
- 31:12Speaker 1: this pandemic, we're gonna win working together. I'm just talking
- 31:16Speaker 1: about your mom, I'm talking about black people in general.
- 31:18Speaker 1: We have to learn to be able to work together.
- 31:23Speaker 1: And technology is that key. Technology is that key. But James,
- 31:26Speaker 1: I just wanted to bring you on the show. Man.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I'll be at a good time man talking about this man.
- 31:30Speaker 1: You know, because I'm a big fan. I'm a big
- 31:33Speaker 1: fan of your brand, and everybody is September twenty seven
- 31:36Speaker 1: September twenty eight Virtual. You know you gotta give me
- 31:39Speaker 1: some banners. You gotta give me some videos so I
- 31:41Speaker 1: can start from holding your brand James. Okay, all right,
- 31:45Speaker 1: I hear your saws addresser to the man. So we're
- 31:46Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna miss to see them outfit. Don't don't.
- 31:49Speaker 1: We don't worry. But now if you need a host, now,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I got you now, all right, I got I got
- 31:54Speaker 1: you safe, be safe now. I appreciate you, my friend
