- 0:00Speaker 1: Let me introduce everybody who I'm talking to. Uh, he's
- 0:02Speaker 1: a little brother. He's a friend fraternity, the brother. He's
- 0:05Speaker 1: my next guest on Money Making Conversation Masterclass. He's Terence Jay.
- 0:09Speaker 1: To give a little background on him, he's three times
- 0:12Speaker 1: Emmy nominated and there's no stranger to the entertainment world.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Was seventeen years in the industry, from hosting to acting
- 0:18Speaker 1: in worldwide box office hit films like Think Like a Man,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Think Like a Man to The Perfect Match Star You
- 0:24Speaker 1: know the floor. On BT he has hosted from everything
- 0:28Speaker 1: from the Oscars, Grammys, Gloden Globe. He's been on the
- 0:33Speaker 1: sidelines of BT Awards. He just finished. If you hadn't
- 0:35Speaker 1: saw him on Power Confidential, you know that took him
- 0:38Speaker 1: do another level. Here's a Power Confidential, but I can't
- 0:41Speaker 1: get too excited because we're doing our NPR. You gotta
- 0:43Speaker 1: say at the third level. But more important, he's a
- 0:45Speaker 1: graduate level HBCU and more importantly, he's a person who
- 0:49Speaker 1: was a brand ambassador for the third Good Marshall College Front.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Please walking to Money Making Conversation Masterclass. The one and
- 0:56Speaker 1: only Terence Jay. Always a pleasure. Brother. How are you
- 1:00Speaker 1: doing I'm doing because I'm very excited to get you
- 1:02Speaker 1: on the show, Terrence one. Just watching you grow as
- 1:05Speaker 1: a as an individual, just watching you your career. You
- 1:09Speaker 1: know we've had times and set aside, uh what we
- 1:12Speaker 1: talked about how you got here and one of the
- 1:14Speaker 1: things that I do on Money Making Conversation Masterclass, I
- 1:17Speaker 1: always like to people to hear stories about overcoming the
- 1:20Speaker 1: arts and persevering. And you will host to one of
- 1:23Speaker 1: the longest running countdown shows in BT history, one of
- 1:26Speaker 1: those six in Park. And if you have time, I
- 1:29Speaker 1: love for people for you to share with my viewers
- 1:31Speaker 1: and my listeners in this case my listeners, how that
- 1:35Speaker 1: came about, how you went against the odds it was
- 1:38Speaker 1: able to land the opportunity to be the host of
- 1:40Speaker 1: that show. Oh man, I appreciate it, and it's it's
- 1:44Speaker 1: always a pleasure, uh talk with one of my personal mentors.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Um you so uh so? Yeah. So, I graduated um
- 1:53Speaker 1: from college and I was working at a job that
- 1:56Speaker 1: I didn't love and everybody told me that, you know,
- 1:59Speaker 1: I needed to just work someplace where I can have
- 2:01Speaker 1: a you know, four O one K and have my
- 2:04Speaker 1: bills paid on time. But I wasn't really following what
- 2:07Speaker 1: I was passionate about. So my friend told me that
- 2:10Speaker 1: there was an audition happening in New York for b ET,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and I took all the money in my savings and
- 2:17Speaker 1: I just flew up there and went to the audition.
- 2:20Speaker 1: But on the first rounds of the auditions, I was
- 2:23Speaker 1: super nervous, uh, and I fumbled it. You know, I
- 2:26Speaker 1: went in there, I kind of stuttered through the scripts,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and they handed everybody um papers with either a green
- 2:34Speaker 1: check or a red X. And I got a red
- 2:37Speaker 1: X on my paper, and you know that means I
- 2:40Speaker 1: didn't make it to the next round. But the guy
- 2:42Speaker 1: that was in front of me in line got a
- 2:45Speaker 1: green check on his paper. And I said to myself, Man,
- 2:49Speaker 1: if the guy right there can make it to the
- 2:51Speaker 1: next line, I had to the next part of it.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I at least got to try to get over the
- 2:58Speaker 1: first you know, the first dound. And so I drove
- 3:02Speaker 1: from New York down to Atlanta and I tried it again,
- 3:06Speaker 1: but this time I knew what to expect. I knew
- 3:09Speaker 1: what they were gonna ask me um, and all I
- 3:11Speaker 1: was trying to do, I wasn't trying to get on
- 3:13Speaker 1: the show. I was just like, I just want to
- 3:15Speaker 1: make it to the next round, and just going that
- 3:18Speaker 1: extra step. I made it from that round to the
- 3:21Speaker 1: next round, to the next round to the next round,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and then eventually, um, you know, I got the show
- 3:26Speaker 1: and my life changed. But I always tell people, don't
- 3:29Speaker 1: try to build a wall, just try to individually lay
- 3:33Speaker 1: down each brick day by day. And and you know,
- 3:36Speaker 1: my life changed from there after I got that that
- 3:39Speaker 1: that one gig. Well, your life changed also because you
- 3:42Speaker 1: went to an HBCU. And before we respond to that,
- 3:45Speaker 1: when I see the explosion of media about HBCUs and
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know, you've always bragged about coming from an hbc
- 3:54Speaker 1: ever since I've known you. That's that's been at the time,
- 3:57Speaker 1: you know, And so now you see it come out
- 4:00Speaker 1: and then you see the like this recently this weekend
- 4:03Speaker 1: they had, Uh HBCU gained during the All Star weekend.
- 4:07Speaker 1: So what are you talking when you here HBCUs being
- 4:10Speaker 1: promoted and being being being finally getting this academic place
- 4:15Speaker 1: in the conversation of education. Oh, I love it, man,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you know, better late than never, right, Uh, these institutions,
- 4:24Speaker 1: you know, for over a hundred years, Uh, in some
- 4:27Speaker 1: cases have been doing amazing work, uh with African Americans
- 4:32Speaker 1: in in the community, UM, providing opportunities. You know, I
- 4:37Speaker 1: didn't get I applied when I was in North Carolina.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I applied to NC State and North Carolina UNC, and
- 4:44Speaker 1: I didn't get accepted into either school because I wasn't
- 4:47Speaker 1: academically where I needed to be. But a T took
- 4:50Speaker 1: a chance on me. And because in HBCU took that
- 4:54Speaker 1: chance on me, you know, it led to all the
- 4:57Speaker 1: things that came after it in my life and in
- 4:59Speaker 1: my career rear. And so I love that, you know,
- 5:02Speaker 1: the national spotlight is finally kind of on HBCUs right now.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I love every time I see somebody like j R.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Smith who started going to a T or you know,
- 5:12Speaker 1: Chris Paul, you know, wearing HBCU stuff at games. I
- 5:17Speaker 1: love seeing the explosion that's taking place now. And I
- 5:20Speaker 1: just hope, you know, more and more good students go
- 5:23Speaker 1: so that we can get more and more sponsorship and
- 5:26Speaker 1: funding and endowments, and uh, you know, our schools could
- 5:29Speaker 1: just continue to thrive. I know, you know, if as
- 5:32Speaker 1: long as I know your first you remember a mega
- 5:34Speaker 1: sci fi fraternity incorporated, we know what that's based on
- 5:36Speaker 1: it for card No principles in the cord. One of
- 5:39Speaker 1: the one of the basis of this community, one of
- 5:41Speaker 1: the basis of this uplift and so Thurg and Marshall
- 5:45Speaker 1: was about uplifting young students academically and giving them so
- 5:49Speaker 1: they won't leave school with college debt. What brought you
- 5:52Speaker 1: into that relationship with the Third and Marshall College front,
- 5:55Speaker 1: Terence ja so Sean. So, when I was a freshman
- 5:59Speaker 1: at A and T, I, like I said, my school
- 6:03Speaker 1: work wasn't where I needed to be. I was so
- 6:05Speaker 1: interested in you know, other things and party and hanging
- 6:08Speaker 1: out that I wasn't where I needed to be academically. Um. So,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I was on academic probation and I had a professor
- 6:17Speaker 1: who you know, I was gonna get kicked out in school.
- 6:20Speaker 1: And I had a professor that said, listen, there's something
- 6:23Speaker 1: special about you. You know I was. I was already
- 6:26Speaker 1: interning at the on campus radio station, and she said,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I need you to focus on your school work. I'm
- 6:32Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna uh set you. I'm gonna write your
- 6:36Speaker 1: letter to get this internship, but you gotta promise me
- 6:38Speaker 1: to turn your grades around. And so I was a
- 6:41Speaker 1: member of the third Goood Marshall College from I received
- 6:44Speaker 1: an actual scholarship that kept me in school, and that
- 6:48Speaker 1: next semester um I met some you know, some really
- 6:52Speaker 1: interesting people and started my grade started changing around. By
- 6:56Speaker 1: the time I graduated college, I had a three point
- 6:59Speaker 1: a g P, I was student body president, and then
- 7:02Speaker 1: like the Omega Stipe five, you know, the scholarship and
- 7:05Speaker 1: changed my life. I got some really smart lawn brothers
- 7:09Speaker 1: that really helped, you know, me change my life. And
- 7:12Speaker 1: so the Third Marshall College Fund is what kept me
- 7:16Speaker 1: in school. And so I always said, the moment I
- 7:19Speaker 1: get on, the moment I you know, got got my
- 7:21Speaker 1: foot in the door, I wanted to continue to get back.
- 7:24Speaker 1: And so now it's just it's a privilege to work
- 7:26Speaker 1: with Andrea and the whole organization um UH and and
- 7:30Speaker 1: you know I love giving back and and doing programs
- 7:34Speaker 1: with them. Every year. We'll be right back with more
- 7:37Speaker 1: Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald. Now let's return
- 7:45Speaker 1: to Money Making Conversations Master Class with Rashan McDonald. Let's
- 7:49Speaker 1: bring in Andrew Horton. How are you doing Miss Horton? Hi,
- 7:54Speaker 1: good after Now great to be here. Well great, First
- 7:57Speaker 1: of all, welcome back. You know you on you on
- 8:00Speaker 1: the phone with uh you know with two omega mean uh,
- 8:04Speaker 1: Terence J a young Omega man and an old old
- 8:08Speaker 1: Maga man and ra Sean McDonald. How are you doing.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I'm doing fantastic. Well, your your graduate spellman tell us
- 8:17Speaker 1: about that the experience of Ms Horton Common from the
- 8:20Speaker 1: expellman already Terence and already told us he's a graduate
- 8:23Speaker 1: of North Carolina, North Carolina and t talk about that
- 8:26Speaker 1: whole world of being in the HBCU and an importance
- 8:30Speaker 1: of just black seeking a higher education and achieving black excellence. Oh. Absolutely, so,
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's fun, It's ironic. I just returned from Cleveland from
- 8:39Speaker 1: the All Star Game, and I'm from the Cleveland area,
- 8:42Speaker 1: small town called Aleria, and I had a chance to
- 8:46Speaker 1: go home and visit my high school and just had
- 8:49Speaker 1: a really great experience in my hometown. But the fact
- 8:52Speaker 1: of the matter is I went to a predominantly white
- 8:55Speaker 1: high school, lived in a predominantly white town, and I
- 8:58Speaker 1: did very well and my upbringing, but as I advanced
- 9:03Speaker 1: academically and um socially, I really wanted to I learn
- 9:09Speaker 1: more about my culture as I will continue to challenge
- 9:12Speaker 1: myself academically. So for me, the only choice was Spellman
- 9:17Speaker 1: and that's the only institution I applied to early decisions,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and I was fortunate enough to be accepted, uh and
- 9:26Speaker 1: was able to join the ranks of other Spellman women
- 9:29Speaker 1: speaking the same thing. Now, now, Terrias, you're you're from
- 9:32Speaker 1: New York right? Uh? Yeah, yeah, I was born in
- 9:35Speaker 1: New York. Okay, were you living in New York? Were
- 9:37Speaker 1: you applied for North Carolina ANTI? I know, so I
- 9:41Speaker 1: moved down to North Carolina when I turned a teenager.
- 9:45Speaker 1: When I was a teenager, so I was already in state,
- 9:48Speaker 1: UM when I applied for ANTI. Okay, was that your
- 9:51Speaker 1: only option that you you like? Like? Miss Horton just
- 9:54Speaker 1: said chief you know, let me just let everybody know.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Miss Horton is the chief marketing Officer for the third
- 10:00Speaker 1: Good Marshall College Fund, and she's on the show because
- 10:03Speaker 1: the fact we're trying to get the word out we
- 10:05Speaker 1: have deadlines coming up for scholarship applications, and we're also
- 10:09Speaker 1: just letting everybody with the Third Good Marshall College Fund
- 10:11Speaker 1: is doing. But more important, we try to bring on
- 10:13Speaker 1: relatable people, people that have recognizable names and doing recognizable causes,
- 10:19Speaker 1: and we need to let everybody know that these causes
- 10:21Speaker 1: that they that they represent can benefit your child and
- 10:24Speaker 1: actually can benefit you depending on your age. And so
- 10:27Speaker 1: when you had the opportunity to go to North Carolina ANTI,
- 10:29Speaker 1: where you looking at other schools like like she said, Spellman,
- 10:32Speaker 1: was that what was what was your point of view?
- 10:35Speaker 1: We'll see. Ms. Horton is way much more buttoned up
- 10:37Speaker 1: than I am. She's a very impressive person. When you
- 10:48Speaker 1: very impressive. I was just hanging on by a my mom,
- 10:55Speaker 1: my mom who's also you know, very impressive. She wanted
- 10:59Speaker 1: me to go to college and I, you know, I
- 11:02Speaker 1: didn't and so I applied to a bunch of schools,
- 11:05Speaker 1: but you know, I didn't get accepted. And so yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 1: A and T took a chance on me. And that's
- 11:10Speaker 1: why I love HPCU so much because if it wasn't
- 11:14Speaker 1: for them, I never would have had the experience in
- 11:16Speaker 1: turn of my life around. Well, I you know, so
- 11:19Speaker 1: I know her. I met her at the on the
- 11:21Speaker 1: campus of who was doing an event, uh HBCU College
- 11:24Speaker 1: Day that we were producing and what's the Salem what's
- 11:27Speaker 1: the Salem State? And That's where I met her, and
- 11:30Speaker 1: she impressed me so much that we've been friends. You know,
- 11:33Speaker 1: she might not consider me a friend, but she my friend.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Though she's my friend because my friend. Because I drug
- 11:39Speaker 1: her on the radio, just the second time I drug.
- 11:41Speaker 1: She can't say no to me because I believe so
- 11:43Speaker 1: much and what we're trying to do. Because in the
- 11:46Speaker 1: end we all know, like I said, I was that
- 11:49Speaker 1: same guy. You know, I didn't go to HBCU, but
- 11:51Speaker 1: I'm very much aware of the brand association with and
- 11:54Speaker 1: what they're creating at a Black Excellent I always tell people,
- 11:56Speaker 1: you know, fifth percent of the high school teachers are
- 11:59Speaker 1: from hbc USE, eight percent of the doctors from HBCUs,
- 12:02Speaker 1: eight percent of the dentists from HBCU, sent percent of
- 12:05Speaker 1: the lawyers you know, hbcentercent members of Congress from HBCUs.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Those numbers don't lie the stem graduates from HBCUs. Those
- 12:15Speaker 1: numbers of my is my mission. Those numbers are my
- 12:18Speaker 1: goal because the fact that if people don't know that,
- 12:21Speaker 1: then they don't think. All they think of when the
- 12:23Speaker 1: hbc is the marching bands, They think of the football,
- 12:26Speaker 1: they think of the revelry, when it's really the academics.
- 12:30Speaker 1: That's the key here because of the fact that you
- 12:32Speaker 1: said that you you graduated with honors. That was a
- 12:35Speaker 1: turnaround from you because somebody saw something in you. Correct,
- 12:39Speaker 1: Terrence JA correct. Yeah, that's that's it. You know, somebody
- 12:43Speaker 1: like Miss Harton honestly who saw the potential um and
- 12:47Speaker 1: and gave me the opportunity. And then once you have
- 12:50Speaker 1: that opportunity, it's up to you to take it. You know.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Now it's at the basis of the core why the
- 12:55Speaker 1: third orld Barshaw College Fund exists, Miss Horton. So, um,
- 13:02Speaker 1: yes it is, and we have other other you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: other parts of our mission that we strive for as well.
- 13:10Speaker 1: But I do want to go back and share something
- 13:12Speaker 1: about HBCUs in general. The magic of HBCUs is that,
- 13:18Speaker 1: as Terrence Jay said, um, HBCUs can take the student
- 13:23Speaker 1: who is academically advanced, to an average student, to a
- 13:28Speaker 1: below average student and really help them find themselves and
- 13:33Speaker 1: really come into their own identity. One of the big
- 13:37Speaker 1: things that I love about HBCUs is that they take
- 13:41Speaker 1: students from all backgrounds and really help them become their
- 13:45Speaker 1: best outs. HBCU students are fifty one more likely to
- 13:52Speaker 1: end up in higher income quince house upon graduation. So
- 13:56Speaker 1: no matter where you start, whether you start from UM
- 13:59Speaker 1: an average income family and below average income family are not.
- 14:03Speaker 1: HBCUs have that holistic education that really help you academically, socially,
- 14:09Speaker 1: professionally and really position you to be successful after graduation.
- 14:14Speaker 1: And that's the magic of HBCUs. As far as the
- 14:17Speaker 1: third Good Marshall College Funds, our goal is really one
- 14:21Speaker 1: to support the institutions HBCU institutions and make sure that
- 14:26Speaker 1: they are sustainable because they are important, UM highly important
- 14:30Speaker 1: to our community and all those who have a dream
- 14:33Speaker 1: of attending college. And then secondly we want to support
- 14:37Speaker 1: the students and scholarships is a huge way that we
- 14:40Speaker 1: support students who ensure that they can complete their college
- 14:44Speaker 1: degree with minimal studentmone debt. We'll be right back with
- 14:48Speaker 1: more Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan McDonald Now let's
- 14:55Speaker 1: return to Money Making Conversations Masterclass with Rushan mcdonne. Know,
- 15:00Speaker 1: now you talk about scholarship opportunities, where can we go
- 15:03Speaker 1: as a number we can call? Or when I said,
- 15:05Speaker 1: we are talking about myself so I can have access
- 15:07Speaker 1: to it, to put it on my social media, to
- 15:10Speaker 1: put it on my email, on my newsletters and things
- 15:12Speaker 1: like that to promote the opportunities. The worst thing that
- 15:15Speaker 1: the world is to go to college and walk away
- 15:17Speaker 1: with debt, and this is a scholarship will allow you
- 15:20Speaker 1: that opportunity to do that. So help me out a
- 15:22Speaker 1: little bit by giving me information on how these scholarship
- 15:24Speaker 1: opportunities can be reached. Sure, you can go to our
- 15:28Speaker 1: website www dot t MCF dot org and you click
- 15:34Speaker 1: on students slash Alum nine and then click on scholarship
- 15:39Speaker 1: and then that scholarship portal um your listeners can really
- 15:43Speaker 1: see all of the scholarship opportunities that we have available.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Over the last twelve months, we more than double the
- 15:50Speaker 1: amount of scholarship programs that we have available for students
- 15:54Speaker 1: attending HBCUs and we even have a few scholarships for
- 15:57Speaker 1: students who decide to attend other institutions, but the money
- 16:01Speaker 1: follows them where they decided to go. Now, dude, I'm
- 16:04Speaker 1: going to Terence, I want to just ask you one
- 16:06Speaker 1: question as we as we close out this interview, what
- 16:09Speaker 1: what what makes you feel? What's the passion? You know?
- 16:13Speaker 1: Because we you mentioned the fact that, hey, you are
- 16:16Speaker 1: a recipient of a Third Good Marshalls College Funds scholarship.
- 16:20Speaker 1: So what what what what? What? What? What drives that?
- 16:23Speaker 1: And what what encouragement do you give somebody who's listening
- 16:26Speaker 1: to a parent or maybe even a student. Uh. And
- 16:30Speaker 1: the benefits of this type of scholarship outside of just
- 16:34Speaker 1: paying for your classes allowing you to graduate from school
- 16:39Speaker 1: debt free, well, you know, tom's hard. You know, the
- 16:43Speaker 1: economy is in a very difficult place, you know, um,
- 16:47Speaker 1: and every bit helps, and when you have programs, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 1: set up to assist, it's important to take advantage of them.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You know, these student tuitions are really high, these books,
- 16:57Speaker 1: these programs, they're really expensive, and so you know, to
- 17:01Speaker 1: alleviate some of that stress, there's incredible organizations like the
- 17:05Speaker 1: Third Good Marshall College fund that that can can help
- 17:08Speaker 1: and assist. And they don't just have programs that are
- 17:11Speaker 1: just for you know, your your school work. They also
- 17:14Speaker 1: have internship programs, job placement programs. You know, we do
- 17:19Speaker 1: mentors ship programs. I had an intern come from it
- 17:23Speaker 1: came to l A and and and you know, spent
- 17:26Speaker 1: the whole summer with me. You know, like there's a
- 17:28Speaker 1: bunch of different uh, programs if you go to the
- 17:31Speaker 1: third Good Marshall UH College from website the TEMCF dot org.
- 17:36Speaker 1: So I just for me, I made a promise to
- 17:38Speaker 1: myself back then, UH that I would always I would
- 17:41Speaker 1: never forget where I came from, and I would never
- 17:43Speaker 1: forget those that helped me. And this organization has been
- 17:47Speaker 1: a pleasure for me because they always find incredible students
- 17:51Speaker 1: and they always you know, I know all I know
- 17:53Speaker 1: when I do donate, all of the money goes to
- 17:55Speaker 1: the right place. And I think for all of the
- 17:57Speaker 1: parents out there, you know, if you do this, are
- 18:00Speaker 1: are about to go to high school, I mean or
- 18:03Speaker 1: graduating high school and about to go to college, you
- 18:05Speaker 1: should strongly, you know, consider and make sure that TMCF
- 18:10Speaker 1: dot org is on the top of your browser because
- 18:13Speaker 1: they have so many different programs that that you should
- 18:16Speaker 1: take advantage of. I want to share a story before
- 18:19Speaker 1: we go with if you can share it with us,
- 18:21Speaker 1: Miss Horton. We was in Winston Salem State Campus and
- 18:24Speaker 1: were doing my HBCU College Day event. He was talking
- 18:27Speaker 1: about the applications where you guys really take the time
- 18:31Speaker 1: to read the applications and so this is not that
- 18:35Speaker 1: one application you should be doing a cookie cutter or
- 18:37Speaker 1: just grab something you put in another application and put
- 18:40Speaker 1: over there. Talk about the screening process for these applications. Sure,
- 18:44Speaker 1: that's an important piece. And then the first thing I
- 18:46Speaker 1: want to really stress for your listeners is that our scholarships,
- 18:51Speaker 1: and many of them when you go on our website
- 18:53Speaker 1: will say our need based. Some need based scholarships, but
- 18:59Speaker 1: me and mean you have to be in a certain
- 19:01Speaker 1: income bracket. So although I was academically prepared for college,
- 19:06Speaker 1: I was not financially prepared for college. So I needed
- 19:09Speaker 1: financial support. And even though my parents had a pretty
- 19:13Speaker 1: good income, there was still a significant amount of my
- 19:16Speaker 1: cost of attendance that was not covered by scholarships or
- 19:20Speaker 1: any grant funding. So that means a large portion of
- 19:23Speaker 1: my my college educations had to be self paid or
- 19:26Speaker 1: paid by loans. If you're like me, you qualify for
- 19:31Speaker 1: our scholarships you have a need. Even if your parents
- 19:35Speaker 1: make you know, three hundred thousand dollars and you are
- 19:39Speaker 1: self pay you still qualify as having need for scholarship.
- 19:44Speaker 1: So once we've established that and you go to our
- 19:46Speaker 1: portal to apply, please know that every application is read
- 19:51Speaker 1: and scored on a rubric so that means everybody has
- 19:55Speaker 1: a chance. Not about who you know, who you're connected to,
- 19:58Speaker 1: is about the quality of your application. You have too.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Many of our applications now either require an essay, but
- 20:06Speaker 1: most of them require a video response to an essay question,
- 20:10Speaker 1: so you're really verbally responding to a question. Our applications
- 20:15Speaker 1: will ask you for a letter of recommendation and then
- 20:18Speaker 1: we'll give you a score on your academic So what
- 20:22Speaker 1: what your g p A is. Once we sort of
- 20:24Speaker 1: score all those components, the highest scores receive the scholarship.
- 20:30Speaker 1: So again, everybody has an opportunity. And I can't tell
- 20:33Speaker 1: you how many students have come up to me and said,
- 20:35Speaker 1: I started not to apply to the scholarship, but I
- 20:39Speaker 1: decided to take a chance and I got it. And
- 20:43Speaker 1: you can if you take the time to really apply
- 20:46Speaker 1: and think about the answers to your questions, UH and
- 20:50Speaker 1: put your best foot forward, you really can't receive a
- 20:52Speaker 1: scholarship through the third Good Marshall College Funds. Ter J,
- 20:56Speaker 1: thank you for taking the time to come on my show,
- 21:00Speaker 1: one the main Conversation master Class, to tell your story
- 21:03Speaker 1: and motivate. I'm motivated because you know it's interesting when
- 21:05Speaker 1: you talk to people, you think that you know their
- 21:07Speaker 1: story and you learn even more special things about it,
- 21:09Speaker 1: which makes me know why you are very special. You've
- 21:12Speaker 1: overcome the odds. Hey man. Really it's just the sincere
- 21:17Speaker 1: nature why you are successful. Just just screams in this interview.
- 21:21Speaker 1: You don't give up. You know you you, and you
- 21:23Speaker 1: know you. You've been helped along the way, and you
- 21:25Speaker 1: understand that I gotta reach back and extend the hand
- 21:28Speaker 1: to pull somebody maybe even further than I've achieved. And
- 21:32Speaker 1: that's a blessing man, and you will continue to be
- 21:34Speaker 1: blessed with that thought process. And thank you for coming
