- 0:19It's good that we've been going this long and
- 0:23haven't really started yet, because I've been
- 0:26capturing it all. Oh, it's fucking fantastic
- 0:30conversation. All right, let's fucking do this.
- 0:33Boxing B -sides meets boxing before dark. All
- 0:37the boxing peeps are in the same place. Shanada.
- 0:42It's a crossover. Yeah, you are the crossover
- 0:45elite right now. How's it going over there in
- 0:48JP? I am so fucking tired. I got home at 7 a
- 0:53.m. And it is now 11 a .m. So. Japan. And then
- 0:59we also got Saul, the one and only. Taul. Probox
- 1:06good. Probox good. All right. Lester Martinez.
- 1:12Gave a good account of himself. Good account.
- 1:15I have thoughts about that fight. All right.
- 1:17So do we just want to jump into the... Canelo
- 1:21Crawford card, we'll just work our way to the
- 1:23bottom. First, honorable mention to the shitty
- 1:26matchroom card earlier that day. Molly McCann
- 1:29switching over from MMA to boxing and still getting
- 1:32kicked. That was really funny. Referee, out of
- 1:37his mind, not there at all. Blatantly front kicked.
- 1:41Fucking hand up his ass, I guess. I cannot believe
- 1:46that's not a DQ for someone to throw a front
- 1:49kick. That's fucking ridiculous. Molly McCann
- 1:53didn't care. Of course she didn't care. She can
- 1:56handle it. She just kept beating the shit out
- 1:58of her. Yep. Yep. Normal day in the beautiful
- 2:04UK, I guess. Alright. Oh, it was a UK card. It
- 2:11was. Nick Ball kicks people too, so it must be
- 2:16a UK thing. Anyways, no one cares about that
- 2:20card. I care about it. Can you give me admin
- 2:25terms? We'll get back to it the next time we
- 2:29sit down. So, I wanted to start on the Canelo
- 2:34Crawford card, Marco Verde. Man, what's his name?
- 2:39I wrote down the wrong one. Akale. Akale. I forgot
- 2:46his name. So, he was pretty upset that the fight
- 2:52was stopped. Oh, this stoppage was horrific.
- 2:55You think so? I agree. I'm not one of those boxing
- 3:00fans where the fighters have to die every time
- 3:04for it to be a stoppage. like it's not it's not
- 3:08the amateurs like you don't like you don't stop
- 3:10it at the slightest wobble you see if he's actually
- 3:13hurt judging by how he's defending himself and
- 3:16then you step in you don't just watch him barely
- 3:19wobble after getting hit like slightly through
- 3:22your guard like this stoppage was really bad
- 3:26granted it was going in that direction but this
- 3:29stoppage is really bad i agree i think that um
- 3:34I wouldn't say it's probably one of the worst
- 3:35ones I've seen. Obviously, I think it still goes
- 3:37to Milt Taylor and Chavez. Really? Yeah. You
- 3:43guys don't agree with that? Continue with this
- 3:45one. Continue with this one before we get sidetracked.
- 3:48Yeah, you're right. We'll talk about that another
- 3:50day. But either way, it was a bad stoppage, I
- 3:53feel. That was way too early. Again, he was getting
- 3:56hurt. There's no doubt about it. He was going
- 3:58to lose the fight. But they just stopped it.
- 4:00I believe they stopped it just to keep padding
- 4:02the record of Marco Verde. Which I understand,
- 4:06but, you know. I thought that it was going in
- 4:10that direction, and it wasn't necessarily that
- 4:13he was hurt in that moment, but it was just that
- 4:16he was not adequately defending himself over
- 4:21the course of, what, four rounds? Three and a
- 4:26half rounds? He wasn't adequately defending himself,
- 4:30is what my thinking is what the ref was thinking.
- 4:37I know we've done the devil's advocate. It was
- 4:40just a bad stoppage, but there's not much else
- 4:43to it. Yeah, it was a little early. I don't want
- 4:48to scream corruption or whatever. It's just one
- 4:52of those value judgments because the ref is there
- 4:56and you're not. Whatever. It is what it is, unfortunately.
- 5:02Like for the case of Akali. It was a shutout
- 5:05to that point. Akali was never going to win that
- 5:08shit. Save him from a little bit of extra punishment.
- 5:12As much as he's not going to like it. Of course
- 5:14he's not going to like it. He's a professional
- 5:16fucking boxer. He's not going to like it. But
- 5:19that's what you're there for, ref. One thing
- 5:23I will say is that Akali kind of did give him
- 5:25a good fight. He did. Yeah, I got to give him
- 5:29props. He He was duking it out. Yeah, it was
- 5:33a good scrap. He made it scrappy. Yeah, he made
- 5:38it scrappy. It was fun. It was a good fight,
- 5:40but ended in a horrible card. Yes. Oh, moving
- 5:46up. Sultan Al -Muhammad versus Martin Caraballo.
- 5:52Sorry, they apparently don't do double L's in
- 5:56Miami. Yeah, it was a one -way beating. Like,
- 6:02pretty much from the onset. It was not very interesting.
- 6:07No. I found this more interesting than the Muhammad
- 6:11Al -Aqal. Oh, yeah. Like, I would have rather
- 6:16had this. I would rather have, if you're going
- 6:19to give me a Saudi plant, I would have taken
- 6:21Sultan Al -Muhammad over Muhammad Al -Aqal. No,
- 6:27I will say that was a really good fight to open
- 6:30the card. It's funny, though. A lot of the openers
- 6:33were better than some of the main fights on the
- 6:36card. I'm not naming names. Callum Walsh should
- 6:44not have been so high up. Callum Walsh should
- 6:47have... I got words to say once we get there.
- 6:51But they should be pushing this kid, Sultan,
- 6:53a lot more than Alakel. Alakel is... We'll get
- 6:56to it right now. He was boring as fuck. Pill
- 6:59-fisted. But we'll get to it right now. Stolten
- 7:02is fun, at least. He was a fun fighter. Yeah.
- 7:08Moving up, Reito Tsutsumi gets the stoppage and
- 7:12won over Javier Martinez. Is there a lot to take
- 7:20away from a one -round stoppage? Reito's the
- 7:25better brother, for sure. I've been saying it
- 7:28the whole time, but he's definitely the better
- 7:30brother. That was a pretty fucking... That was
- 7:35a pretty good knockout. Another Saudi plant.
- 7:40Sutsumi. To an extent, yeah. He's a step removed
- 7:45from Sultan Al -Muhammad or Al -Aqal. He's like
- 7:50a step cousin. Yeah, he's still a plant though.
- 7:55Yeah. Not like Caleb though. It makes me want
- 7:59to... It makes my opinion of you start in a negative
- 8:02place. Whereas it would be neutral any other
- 8:07way. Raico Santana stopped Steven Nelson. This
- 8:14felt like a bad stoppage. Another one that happened
- 8:20a little bit too soon. I don't know. What do
- 8:24you guys think? I don't know why they stopped
- 8:26it that early, dude. He wasn't hurt. He wasn't
- 8:31damaged at all. He was caught in a bad position.
- 8:34That's really what it was. I mean, I've seen
- 8:37rescue fighters that are fucking out on their
- 8:41knees, out on their feet. That's what I mean.
- 8:43I don't know. Just a weird night. Just a very
- 8:50weird couple stoppages. Yeah, this one felt like
- 8:54it should have been an eight count. and even
- 8:57then like like you have to i get i get the whole
- 9:00like you have to protect them from themselves
- 9:01but also like it's professional boxing on like
- 9:05like you need to you need to give them a little
- 9:09bit of leeway to bounce back and recover because
- 9:12some some fight some fighters can get like shattered
- 9:15easy and recover like it's nothing like They
- 9:21look like they're on skates the entire fucking
- 9:23fight, but they keep recovering quickly, so you
- 9:26can't, like, you can't judge it by a first look.
- 9:30Especially in a ten -rounder. A four -rounder,
- 9:33whatever. Right? Ten -rounder? No. No. Unacceptable.
- 9:39Yeah. I was gonna say, like, for a ten -round
- 9:41guy, you're not giving him a ten -round guy's,
- 9:45like, giving him enough rope. for him to hit.
- 9:49He should be hanging himself with it. You shouldn't
- 9:53be stringing him up. Honestly, like, Steven Nelson's
- 9:58off the butt Pacheco, you know? Obviously, Pacheco's
- 10:00not the greatest, but he's taking harder shots.
- 10:04You know? He didn't look hurt. He was just buzzed
- 10:08a little bit, you know? Bad stoppage. This was
- 10:14the Cuban that had Team Mexico on his hat. I
- 10:19thought that was funny. Yeah. Ironic. Yeah, I'm
- 10:25sure he's a... He's a Reynoso guy. That's probably
- 10:29what it is, but... Because, like, Stephen Nelson
- 10:32is a BOMAC guy, right? BOMAC guy, yeah. So they
- 10:36have their guys, like, up and down the bill.
- 10:40Except for the Saudi plants. But moving up, Jermaine
- 10:47Franklin, UD over Ivan Ditchko. Which of you
- 10:53two was it that was really going hard for Jermaine
- 10:57Franklin? Me? I'm 100 % right. I was wrong. Ditchko
- 11:03was not ready, and Jermaine Franklin, again,
- 11:07he showed up ready for the occasion. And voila,
- 11:11he actually... Did it. He just did it. Franklin
- 11:16is always ready. Like, he stays in shape. Like,
- 11:21Franklin... Shape is a broad term. He stays in
- 11:26his version of shape. He's a professional who's
- 11:31ready to get off the couch to fight. And you
- 11:33know what? Like, Ditchco, 35, never really fought.
- 11:37Danny won with a winning record. Or, like, with
- 11:40a good record. and like it wasn't he wasn't gonna
- 11:44be the guy to step up at 35 to beat jermaine
- 11:49franklin like have you ever seen it's this it's
- 11:56it's a meme but it's like about amazon reviews
- 11:59it says like uh 5 .0 on 35 reviews It's the Drake
- 12:06one. Or, like, a 4 .5 with, like, 30 ,000 reviews.
- 12:11Yeah. Exactly. Like, that's what Drake Franklin
- 12:13is. He's that 4 .5. Yeah. Well, that's crazy.
- 12:17No, no, he's not 4 .5, guys. He's, like, 3. And
- 12:20heavyweight? Like, he's, like, again, like, I'm
- 12:27not saying, like, there's guys who don't beat
- 12:31him at heavyweight, and he's, like, only beatable
- 12:33by the top, but I'm saying, like, you have to
- 12:36be a special guy to not be given problems. Like,
- 12:39I think there's like... Yeah, no. You're right.
- 12:41Like, he does give guys issues consistently.
- 12:44He's a quality veteran. He's a good... Good gatekeeper.
- 12:49Like, he tests you. He's a very... You know what?
- 12:54I might want to see him fight Atalma. I think
- 12:57Fabio... I think him... I think him... I think
- 13:00Jermaine Franklin and Fabio Wardley is a much...
- 13:04more fun little encounter instead of the potential
- 13:07spoiler that he might be for Atama. I would love
- 13:11to see Franklin beat Atama. That would be crazy.
- 13:17That's what I mean. Dude, I just put an article
- 13:20in the publish thing. Am I getting hyped for
- 13:24Heavyweight? For Atama. Yeah, but I was right.
- 13:28It's my point here. Daichiko was not good. And
- 13:34Franklin is. Yeah, exactly what you just said.
- 13:38Albeit, not the most exciting fight until near
- 13:42the end. It's just because Franklin doesn't really
- 13:45have power. He's a very volume guy. Yeah, he
- 13:49was just loading up. He was just loading up.
- 13:52He's a very solid boxer. It's just like, if he
- 13:56just had a little more power... He would be a
- 14:00problem. He would be such an issue. Because,
- 14:03like, the success, though, like, he boxes great.
- 14:07It's just the power that, like, why didn't AJ
- 14:10had their success when they didn't respect him?
- 14:14Yeah. Because otherwise, he pieces you up pretty
- 14:19good. It's just the power on Franklin that really
- 14:22costs him, which is why he's a great, like, solid
- 14:26veteran for a lot of prospects. Because, like.
- 14:30It's basically an IQ test. Like on risk... Yeah,
- 14:37because Jermaine Franklin isn't a power threat.
- 14:39He's an IQ threat. Yeah, like he's very much
- 14:44tested your risk tolerance because if you're
- 14:46a prospect who's bound to get knocked out, then
- 14:50you're going to respect Jermaine Franklin. But,
- 14:53like, it's a big IQ and risk tolerance test,
- 14:56which is good. There's not much at heavyweight.
- 14:59At heavyweight, it's either, like, you basically
- 15:02fight, like, fat construction workers until you
- 15:05get to world level where, like, oh, shit, everyone
- 15:07can hit and everyone can box. So having guys
- 15:12like Franklin in the mix are great, especially
- 15:14for a budding prospect. Yeah. Is Franklin the
- 15:19new Chisora? No. The American Chisora? He's much
- 15:23better at boxing than Chizora was. I guess. Chizora
- 15:29was a good test, though. I don't think he'll
- 15:32ever get the chances Chizora did, though. True.
- 15:39Oh, hell no. Absolutely not. Chizora has got
- 15:43to be skill, record, and pain ratio. The only
- 15:50person who beats him is Kambosis. like no because
- 15:54like chisora like chisora has longevity there
- 15:57too like every time every time you're like finally
- 16:00he's gone he's lost so many times you're like
- 16:03what the is he doing winning again like when
- 16:05he knocked out takum and came back i'm like oh
- 16:08my god another like another eight years of this
- 16:11the same literally he'll like he'll win he'll
- 16:17win like one or two and then he'll lose four
- 16:20in a row and then like but it's just been it's
- 16:24a cycle but you know what he's still around and
- 16:27somehow he's the ibf mandatory which is hilarious
- 16:29he's sniffing a title shot with that ibf again
- 16:33yeah which is crazy put this guy out of his misery
- 16:38holy fuck have you heard um you've heard maybe
- 16:43you have maybe you haven't but it's a cheeky
- 16:45nando's with the lads oh fuck cheeky cheeky mandos
- 16:52with Eddie Hearn and the IBF. Oh, my God. Maybe
- 16:55we're not doing Eddie Hearn because Chisora's...
- 16:59I don't even blame Eddie Hearn for that. The
- 17:03IBF has a clear set of rules. If you play their
- 17:06game, you're going to get the title shot. It
- 17:09doesn't... Cheeky Mando. It doesn't matter how
- 17:14good or bad you are. If you play the game, you
- 17:18get in line, you beat the guy in front of you,
- 17:20you're there. A lot of A -side talent doesn't
- 17:25want to go through that, so you end up with a
- 17:28lot of not A -listers that end up getting their
- 17:32titles out by following the rules. God damn it,
- 17:34do they not grind their teeth just the same?
- 17:42Just thought I'd throw that out there. They grind
- 17:46just like everyone else. Just, just, ugh. Oh,
- 17:53well. Who's next? Can we please talk about Mbili?
- 17:57We're close. We're almost there. Brandon Adams,
- 18:02UD over Sergei Bohachov. Oh, yes. Oh. Special
- 18:06guest. Brandon Adams is the fucking, he's the
- 18:12foil. He's Bohachov's kryptonite. For the record,
- 18:15I got this one right as well. I said that this
- 18:18was an easy way to get rid of Boa Chuck because
- 18:21Brandon Adams is a lot more beatable for all
- 18:24of the talent that Turkey has in his sphere of
- 18:27influence at 154. I said this. I said I called
- 18:32it. I said that Boa Chuck is better than Brandon
- 18:36Adams. Brandon Adams is just that, like, has
- 18:39his number. So the thing is that with this loss,
- 18:44you go, oh. here's the guy who's better than
- 18:46boa chuck and then basically only virgil gets
- 18:49over with the like bad looking win here and like
- 18:54you're gonna ever everyone at 154 basically gets
- 18:57the feast on brandon adams and be like look this
- 19:00is a better this win is better than virgil's
- 19:02against boa chuck Oh, shit. Yeah, Brandon Adams
- 19:06versus Madrimov. Sign it. Yeah, like, that's
- 19:09what I mean. Like, for sure, Boots is going to
- 19:13fight Brandon Adams next year. And it's going
- 19:16to be, and half the marketing after Boots wipes
- 19:18the floor with him is, look at this. This is
- 19:21the guy who beat Boa Chuck, who gave Virgil hell.
- 19:25I would say that me and Isaac can go to hell
- 19:28right now. We're going to go to bad shit. Dude,
- 19:30I was right there too. I thought that Boho Chuck
- 19:32was going to get his back and he was going to
- 19:35get his back just emphatically. No. No. Sometimes
- 19:42a guy just has your number. The issue is when
- 19:47the promoter knows that a guy has your number.
- 19:51There's no problem with a guy having your number.
- 19:54that's just how sports are like you could fight
- 19:5820 times against brandon adams and you could
- 20:01maybe win one it's just how yeah the issue how
- 20:04it is he's just the issue he got you yeah the
- 20:08issue is your promoter knows that and it's now
- 20:11gonna you and case in point do not like the boa
- 20:15chuck has got the boa chuck's pro you're probably
- 20:17the next time you'll see boa chuck if uh like
- 20:21is either if A guy at 154 actively calls him
- 20:25out or is an IBF mandatory? Oh, no. He might
- 20:30be gone for a while now. He might be a cheeky
- 20:32Mando in a few years. That's the whole play.
- 20:38Boa Chuck is probably pro -box bound. Boa Chuck
- 20:43would do well on pro -box, actually. Oh, absolutely.
- 20:46Going up the IBF route on pro -box is perfect.
- 20:52Like, you can see, like, it worked out perfectly.
- 20:55They now have a perfect B -side opponent at 154
- 20:59that everyone has now watched, who is ostensibly
- 21:03worse than Boachuk, but looks better for promotion.
- 21:10So, there we go. I was two for two on these.
- 21:14Yeah. I just noticed. Nathan, how you doing?
- 21:22What up, fellas? Welcome to the pod, buddy. Welcome.
- 21:27It goes good. We saw the good guys win on Saturday,
- 21:31despite all the odds. The good guys being Inouye,
- 21:40right? Yeah. Inouye and Crawford, 100%. Yeah,
- 21:46Inouye. Yeah, that's it. And Jermaine Franklin.
- 21:55And Jermaine Franklin. And Brandon Adams. Brandon
- 21:58Adams is not the good guy here. Oh, no, he's
- 22:01not. I thought he was going to be a good feeder.
- 22:04I'm pro Boa Chucks thing in the mix. I'm actually,
- 22:08like, the prediction was a cynical one. I respect
- 22:12that. That was a cynical prediction, but I ride
- 22:15for Boa Chuck here because he's fun as fuck to
- 22:19watch and he's good. He's an actual good boxer.
- 22:22He's tough as hell. Those body shots looked painful.
- 22:26That's what I mean. I am the biggest Boots Glazer
- 22:32alive because I think Boots, when he faces a
- 22:38quality opponent... who, like, actually requires
- 22:41him to use his defense and, like, box like a
- 22:45normal human being, oh, my God. You're going
- 22:47to see what makes him great. And I think Boa
- 22:51Chuck would have been perfect. I think Boa Chuck
- 22:54would have been perfect to get that out of Boots.
- 22:57Well, basically, what happened with Stannionis
- 22:59was what happened to Boots, what happened with
- 23:01Boa Chuck. Yeah, I was about to say, like, Stannionis
- 23:04is the blueprint for what would happen to Boa
- 23:06Chuck. Oh, yeah. that's what I mean like boots
- 23:10like boots performances are so inconsistent just
- 23:13cuz like Like he knows he the bad part about
- 23:16him having a chin as he so knows it So he doesn't
- 23:19give a fuck about like guys who are not even
- 23:21close to his level or aren't a threat to him
- 23:24That's why I'm saying nobody seriously like dude
- 23:28like who cares. He knows you can't get hit or
- 23:31just like dude Well, it's boxing you go to get
- 23:33here, but the team belong to say you're gonna
- 23:36get hit Well, Berlanga's going to get hit by
- 23:39anyone, dude. Like, come on. They're scoring
- 23:42points. They're scoring points. I know. No matter
- 23:45how tippy -tap it is. Like, the reason why I
- 23:50prop up Boots Crawford as anywhere near competitive
- 23:55is because it's not because I'm trying to downplay
- 23:59Crawford. It's because I believe in Boots that
- 24:01much. We're like, oh, my God. They will give
- 24:03us fireworks down the stretch. i think that would
- 24:07be a purist sort of wet dream like they both
- 24:11like they both have that mean streak and that
- 24:14dog and the dynamicism to really just like it's
- 24:19not it's not so much crawford hate as it is like
- 24:22boots i have belief in boots and like i hope
- 24:28i hope i hope the god that like even though he
- 24:31signed with matchroom like we get some fun food
- 24:34stuff Yeah, it's, like, it's really not even
- 24:41his fault, but, like, he is extremely avoided
- 24:43as a fighter and for, like, obvious reasons,
- 24:46right? The reason that he and Crawford can even
- 24:48be in the same sentence is his skills are legit.
- 24:50So, like, he had to fight. I can't even remember
- 24:53the guy's name. He had to fight some dude that,
- 24:55like, he 12 -0'd in his first fight. He had to
- 24:57rematch him right away because there was literally
- 24:59no one else for him to fight. Oh, he had to grind
- 25:02his teeth on Showbox to even get a spot on a
- 25:05Showtime undercard. It was the Karen Chakudzian
- 25:11bat guy. Yeah. I've talked about this before.
- 25:16Karen is such a negative fighter. It puts Boots
- 25:19in a bad light. But also, I don't think there
- 25:22was a single moment where Boots wasn't in complete
- 25:25control. But it was a matter of... there being
- 25:30whispers that maybe Boots didn't do as good as
- 25:34you think he did. Yeah, styles make fights is
- 25:37all. Yeah, that's exactly what it comes down
- 25:40to. Let's move up. Mohamed Alakel versus Travis
- 25:44Crawford. Alakel gets a UD. Don't have a whole
- 25:48lot to say on this one. This was boring as shit.
- 25:52I feel like they chose that opponent on purpose
- 25:54just because of the name. I thought that had
- 25:59something to do with it. It's got to have something
- 26:02to do with it. That's fucking too much. Travis
- 26:05Crawford, Terrence Crawford. Like, come on. But
- 26:11something that was worth watching. Christian
- 26:14and Bealy split draw with Lester Martinez. This
- 26:20is the first time I have seen nobody complain
- 26:24about a draw. Nobody in SP was mad. My complaint
- 26:28about the draw was not about the scoring itself.
- 26:32It was about Mbili's performance. What was your
- 26:36complaint with his performance? Mbili does not
- 26:39have more than the single gear that he fights
- 26:42in. No, Mbili's not that good. No, I know. Like,
- 26:46really. No, the thing is that the way he's coached,
- 26:52like... I live in Canada. I'm somewhat in the
- 26:57know for Canadian boxing and everything. The
- 27:00coaches he has are not bad coaches. It is not
- 27:03his trainer. Fuck, you saw the corner work. The
- 27:07translation wasn't great, but those who speak
- 27:10French, they're trying to get him to set traps
- 27:14and set up his attacks instead of just going
- 27:18right into his chest and smothering his work.
- 27:22If Mbili fought that fight not with a jab and
- 27:26fought it maybe even 5 % smarter, it's probably
- 27:3010 -0 Mbili. And credit to Lester Martinez for
- 27:33hanging in there and fighting his fight. But
- 27:36god, Mbili really fights like an idiot. Because
- 27:39it isn't that he doesn't have more than the one
- 27:42gear. He just fights in the one gear for whatever
- 27:44reason. He's comfortable there. He doesn't like
- 27:47leaving his comfort zone. Like, he gets, like,
- 27:52mincemeat made out of him by, like, top guys
- 27:55at 168. Because, like, even, like, Caleb Plant,
- 27:58before Caleb Plant was washed up, like, yeah,
- 28:00Caleb Plant gasses in the later rounds, but that's
- 28:03only when you force him to fight out of his comfort
- 28:05area. Caleb Plant could stay in, probably, second
- 28:09gear in the whole fight with a guy like Imbili.
- 28:13Benavidez beats the fuck out of him. Even guys
- 28:16like, like you say, Pacheco. Pacheco? It's not
- 28:21his coaching. It's not his fitness. He chooses
- 28:24to fight with a very low IQ. And you can see
- 28:29just by the draw. And it was perfect, though.
- 28:34This was fight of the year for me so far. Really?
- 28:38Yeah, it was fucking great. Did you not like
- 28:41it? It was a great fight. Fight of the year so
- 28:44far? Yeah, who beats it? I don't know. I personally
- 28:51think that fucking... I don't know. Was Virgil
- 28:57Boach up this year? No. No, it was last year.
- 29:00Okay. I didn't know he got there last, too, on
- 29:04my short list. This was more fun. I know. This
- 29:09was more fun. It was a lot of fun. My thing is,
- 29:12it's only because it was a 10 -round fight, too,
- 29:14which I would have loved. two more rounds. That's
- 29:18true. That was a weird marketing thing they did
- 29:22for Netflix. Netflix demanded that the main event
- 29:26was the only 12 round fight is what I heard.
- 29:28To make it special. But they didn't fucking make
- 29:32sense. They should have made the main 15 rounds
- 29:36so we could have seen Canelo cry even more. It's
- 29:40fucked up. All right. So our fight of the year.
- 29:44Crawford could have done another 12, dog. Our
- 29:47fight of the year. Our fight of the year of the
- 29:48week. We'll talk about it right now. I had, let's
- 29:53see here. Fight of the year. B -Bowl better be
- 29:58if. Isak Cruz versus Angel Fierro. Really? You
- 30:03had Eubank Ben. Taraji versus Akui. That's a
- 30:07good show. You know, Paul, that's a good show.
- 30:14Saul, you had Inouye Cardenas and Benavidez Morel.
- 30:19Yeah, that. And recently, I also wanted to put
- 30:22in there Boyo Matias. That's a good one. That
- 30:27was a good one. That's a good show. And then
- 30:29Morel Katiev on the same card. That's crazy,
- 30:33but those two had to be added. Josh, you got
- 30:35Cruz Fierro as well and Smith Boazzi. I think
- 30:41this was better than all of those. Yeah. The
- 30:45thing is, if it went two rounds, I think I just
- 30:47would have give it to it. I would give it to
- 30:49it. Because, like, seeing the championship rounds
- 30:52of that fight would have been fire. Yeah, there's
- 30:55something different about, like, having championship
- 30:56rounds. You know? That's why I'm like, I know,
- 30:59it is one of my top fights of the year. That's
- 31:02why, it's like on the same level as Katya Morel.
- 31:04Because, again, they're both 10 rounds. If they
- 31:07went two more rounds, both of them, you know.
- 31:09Who knows what could happen. Different ending,
- 31:11perhaps. Yeah. I think we need a rematch on this
- 31:15one, though. I would watch that again. Listen,
- 31:18man. If Billy ever listened to his damn fucking
- 31:23coaches, like, this is, like, the rematch is
- 31:26uninteresting. But also, Lester Martinez... He's
- 31:29not going to. He's not going to, and Lester Martinez
- 31:31got better throughout the fight at timing in
- 31:35Billy and setting traps. Which is very interesting.
- 31:39Someone did listen to their coach and it wasn't
- 31:42Mbili. Lester's been looking really good on Probox.
- 31:47Like, I was excited for this one. Like I said,
- 31:51like I said, don't sleep. Like we were talking
- 31:52about not sleeping on Lester Martinez last week.
- 31:56But, like, the way he improved through the fight,
- 32:01because, like, I saw a comment on SP that was
- 32:04really funny, calling him, like, the Latin American
- 32:07Dave Allen with the fuck -ass Philly shell that
- 32:11he uses. Because that Philly shell, that is a
- 32:14street beef scrapyard Philly shell. That's not
- 32:20good. It's not good. But his offense, the way
- 32:24it flourished through the fight is he listened
- 32:26to his coach and got more confidence. I like
- 32:31it. I like it. Basically, if they pick up where
- 32:37they left off, but Martinez has some more gas
- 32:40from not wearing all those shots for the prior
- 32:4310 rounds, I think Martinez can actually win
- 32:46pretty handily. I got a question for y 'all.
- 32:50What would you guys rate Lester Martinez's performance
- 32:52compared to Mbili? Just rate both their performances
- 32:55for this fight. What do you guys think? On a
- 32:59scale of 10? Yeah. I would say Mbili 6 or 7.
- 33:07Martinez 7 or 8. Mbili gets like a 5 or 6 and
- 33:14then Martinez a nice 8. Like, I just... Like,
- 33:18it's not, like, the IQ issue, whatever. Fighters
- 33:22can have bad IQs, but, like, at least listen
- 33:24to the guy screaming in your face day in, day
- 33:26out when he tells you, please use your jab before
- 33:29you wing hooks at him. Being coachable is a huge
- 33:35thing. Like, when he's screaming at you in French,
- 33:38your fucking language, because his coach is an
- 33:40Anglophone. And he learned French just to scream
- 33:45at you. Yeah, like, some of these Canadian coaches,
- 33:48like, yeah, they're based in Quebec. They're
- 33:50fucking Anglophones. Like, when you see them
- 33:53at the amateur events, they're Anglophones. You
- 33:56can just tell. And they're screaming at you,
- 33:58and, like, please, please, like, you don't even
- 34:01have to do the more complicated things, where,
- 34:03like, yeah, step to the side, wing, like, no.
- 34:06They're telling you, jab your way in, which is,
- 34:09like, a basic fundamental of this damn sport.
- 34:14Don't smother your work. It's a fundamental of
- 34:17this sport. So, like, do it. Just do it. It's
- 34:21also because, I mean, Lester's also with BOMAC.
- 34:23We all know how we feel about BOMAC, you know?
- 34:28BOMAC didn't even fit in the ring. That was between
- 34:32rounds. We'll put BOMAC in there with Rick Lazor
- 34:38and fucking old school Mike Collinger and Dan
- 34:42Raphael. Collapses the ring, bro. We'll take
- 34:46him to heart attack, bro. Now that's the fight
- 34:51of the century. Who finishes an octuple bypass?
- 34:56Butterbean. So I got a question for you guys.
- 34:59Because we were talking about this being a 10
- 35:02rounder instead of a 12. I thought, and this
- 35:06is what I, just me being too a little optimistic,
- 35:11I was thinking, It got moved down to a 10 -rounder
- 35:15because the interim title is not a real title.
- 35:18This doesn't get championship rounds. Oh, that's
- 35:22a base take. That's pretty basic. They have 12
- 35:29-round fights for bullshit titles all the time.
- 35:32That's what I was thinking. As I was formulating
- 35:36that thought, I was thinking, what they do 12
- 35:38-rounders for garbage all the time. The fucking
- 35:42Oriental Pacific was always 12 rounds until people
- 35:45started dying. Yeah. I think I had a take at
- 35:52one point about how it's just the sparring culture
- 35:54more than the fighting culture. Yes. I think
- 35:58the JBC doesn't do very good medicals or take
- 36:02it serious. But that in conjunction with how
- 36:07macho the sparring culture is? Yeah. It's a bad
- 36:12combination. It's the recipe. Because the thing
- 36:15is that negligent commissions, like the UK's
- 36:18commission, doesn't give a fuck about anything
- 36:20half the time. But the sparring culture is relaxed
- 36:23enough where you don't see the consequences.
- 36:27Yeah. And that ends up being my take on the JBC's
- 36:33issues. Shall we continue? I want to see one
- 36:39more thing. about this fight I think that from
- 36:44watching this fight I know when we were on the
- 36:47pod last time I talked about how Christian and
- 36:50Billy and Les Martinez both fucking hell of a
- 36:55fucking hit you know I think this fight kind
- 36:58of proved to me that they both also have pretty
- 37:01strong chins I was watching I was like damn how
- 37:05are these guys how are these guys still standing
- 37:07you know part of that is smothering each other's
- 37:11work but also like the one the one thing i don't
- 37:16give him really much credit for this because
- 37:18he smothered a lot of both of their work but
- 37:21the thing that less the thing that lester give
- 37:23credit to lester's philly show is that he sees
- 37:28every shot coming yeah sure he's gonna get clocked
- 37:31by it but again most of the shots that like really
- 37:35get you and you're gonna see in the main Like,
- 37:38the shots that really shook Canelo are the ones
- 37:40that, like, he had no idea were even coming.
- 37:43It came out from fucking Texas, from Miami. They
- 37:46came from nowhere. So the way, like, Lester,
- 37:48yeah, Lester's open to getting hit by anything,
- 37:50but it means he can see anything. Which is, like,
- 37:55that. Relying on your chin is not a good plan.
- 37:59Oh, absolutely not. I fucking love it. Lester's
- 38:06performance. Was just beautiful, man. That kid's
- 38:10special, man. That kid's special. By the end
- 38:13of the fight, he was getting hit way less. Like,
- 38:16that's the thing. I saw this kid improve throughout
- 38:18the fight. And I think that's the thing that
- 38:20a lot of people are going to miss. A lot of people
- 38:22are going to harp on, oh, Mbili won too many
- 38:24of the early rounds and he shaded this one. So
- 38:27Mbili can totally just come back and win it.
- 38:29But, like, Lester improved so much throughout
- 38:32the fight that I think giving him a fresh gas
- 38:36tank and the... rather obvious assumption that
- 38:39Mbili is just not going to make any tactical
- 38:40improvements. Like, it's there. It's there to
- 38:44be won. Well, I'll tell you this. The reason
- 38:47why I'm saying that Lester's special is exactly
- 38:49why, for the reason you said, is that he is able
- 38:52to adjust. The ability to adjust is so... It's
- 38:55not talked about enough with fighters, you know?
- 38:59The fact that Lester Martinez was able to adjust
- 39:02and, you know... Oh, absolutely. It's shit out
- 39:06of Mbili. And you know what? Yes, his trainer
- 39:09is Bomax, but as we just saw, it's coachability.
- 39:12As Shanada just said, it's coachability that
- 39:15makes all the difference here. Because it's not
- 39:17like... That's why Pacquiao was great. He listened
- 39:21to every fucking word that he was told. Oh, absolutely.
- 39:29I don't know. It's like, that is my opinion.
- 39:32Truly my opinion. But we are... So far in the
- 39:37weeds, we need to get back. I was about to say,
- 39:40that opinion is going to end up quite a bit on
- 39:43Patreon. This is why we don't pair me and Josh.
- 39:50It's good. It's good content. All right, let's
- 39:54move up. Callum Walsh for Fernando Vargas. UD
- 39:59for Walsh in what was a very unexciting co -main
- 40:03event. This was ass. This was the perfect time
- 40:07to go get a new refresher drink, get some food,
- 40:11go to the bathroom. Whatever the case was, this
- 40:16was the time to do it. This fight was ass. I
- 40:21went to go make myself food and eat, and I fucking
- 40:27went back. I was like, who's winning? This fight
- 40:29was so bad, I'm not going to talk about it. I'm
- 40:31going to talk about how Max Kellerman needs to
- 40:35be, like, taken out back like old Yeller. I fucking
- 40:40hate Max Kellerman. Like, this is brutal. This
- 40:42card was terrible. Yeah, it's hard to watch because,
- 40:45I mean, we wanted him back and he became a Saudi
- 40:47player, you know? Nobody wanted him back. He's
- 40:51always been shit. What? What are you talking
- 40:56about? See, the thing is, I used to like Max
- 41:00Kellerman. The metaphor I'd use to describe him,
- 41:04he's like a bell. It depends on who's next to
- 41:07him, who's ringing him, what comes out as good
- 41:09or garbage noise. So if he's paired with good
- 41:13commentators in the past on Showtime or HBO,
- 41:17I never liked him. if he was like when he when
- 41:20he was on showbox with like adner mares it's
- 41:23terrible that's the thing like it really depends
- 41:26on who he's paired with but nowadays like in
- 41:29the post like in the tur in this era where like
- 41:32you can tell he basically just needs a job and
- 41:36will do whatever it takes to keep it and he's
- 41:39just gonna keep his mouth out of like around
- 41:41whoever pays him dick it's not like you know
- 41:46I think, again, I posted in the Hall of Fame
- 41:49because it took me out with how abrupt it was.
- 41:54Someone on the SP Discord said, Butler killed
- 41:59the wrong brother. Oh, my God. With how bad he
- 42:03was. did you read it it was so it took it was
- 42:12out of my field that i remember seeing that and
- 42:15i thought oh my god that is oh my god for all
- 42:23for all intents and purposes i do not condone
- 42:25that i don't condone the comment but it's like
- 42:28that's the that's the level of frustration that
- 42:30i'm only displaying the comment To illustrate
- 42:34the frustration that having commentary this bad
- 42:38on a fight this bad on an event this big really
- 42:42does to, like, the whole presentation. One thing
- 42:46I will say about the commentary itself is just,
- 42:49it was even Max Kellerman, dude. It was, like,
- 42:51John Anik does not fucking belong in this. Yeah.
- 42:54Like, he belongs in UFC. Andre Ward is trying.
- 42:57It's like, it's like, it's like, you know what
- 42:59Johnny Anik reminded me of? Is the fucking people
- 43:02in the chat. okay oh with it laying a job like
- 43:05bro it's not that serious has there been any
- 43:10reasonable has there been any reasonable explanation
- 43:14as to why like the ufc's top brass was so involved
- 43:18with this like whole card like why is anarchy
- 43:20turkey on tab because turkey likes him like is
- 43:25that literally it it's part of it they're trying
- 43:28to take over the sport and like basically I like,
- 43:32I see, I see the, not the vision in that I support
- 43:36it, but I see the vision of like, you make it
- 43:39a real, Oh, you can go to TKO or Riaj season.
- 43:42And it's like the illusion of choice, basically
- 43:44the way they're trying to take over the sport
- 43:46because like, it's the same shit. It's the same
- 43:50shit, but all you and all by, by introducing
- 43:53a new promoter that you bankroll, you just, the
- 43:56whole point is that you take updates. you take
- 43:58updates and you really just try and take away
- 44:00the market from other promoters and take out
- 44:03fighters too sometimes yeah like that's the whole
- 44:06thing because like if a guy like uh like like
- 44:10oh he can't really get dates with top rank but
- 44:12like he doesn't he doesn't want to jump ship
- 44:14to uh tko and like oh riyadh season is there
- 44:17or vice versa like it's very much talking about
- 44:21another tv deal Like, there's people in this
- 44:25world who still sign with Don King in 2025. Which
- 44:29is fucking crazy. It's not unreasonable to think
- 44:34that people will fall for this. Yeah. Because,
- 44:38again, there are people who sign with Don King
- 44:40in the year of our Lord 2025 so he can keep putting
- 44:43on shows in Baltimore rec halls. One thing I
- 44:48will say about fucking the whole production itself
- 44:50is ass. Besides the arena, the arena looked nice,
- 44:53but just the commentary, the fucking camera work.
- 44:59Sometimes even the camera quality. I was like,
- 45:01damn, is this how it's really going to be? They
- 45:03called it the fight of the century. This is how
- 45:04they're treating it. It feels like it was thrown
- 45:07together in a couple of days. I've seen better
- 45:10shit on Probox. Way better shit on Probox. This
- 45:12is sort of the Canelo classic. I don't know if
- 45:16there's been a single card of his that's felt.
- 45:18big outside of him, right? Like it almost feels
- 45:21like the UFC equivalent of watching a McGregor
- 45:23card where everything else is kind of just like,
- 45:25meh. Canelo Golovkin 2 was a fantastic card.
- 45:33That it was. That was a good card. But it's also
- 45:36been like eight years. Generally speaking, his
- 45:39cards are like, you're better off going to sleep.
- 45:43Right? Like, genuinely, you could watch paint
- 45:45dry, and that would be more entertaining than
- 45:47whatever the hell is happening on the undercard.
- 45:49Well, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. This
- 45:51card had some good fights. This card did have
- 45:54some good fights. The Billy fight was good. I'm
- 45:56not trying to tell so much shit, but generally,
- 45:59the co -mains are... You know, they're not worth
- 46:02writing home about, right? No one can outshine
- 46:04Canelo, guys, right? We got to make sure he's
- 46:07the main focus. That's true, actually. I will
- 46:10say. Billy and Martinez got to move down the
- 46:12bill to be completely honest. Yeah, exactly.
- 46:16Also, because they're trying to promote the UFC
- 46:18guy. That's their fucking point, you know? That's
- 46:21the whole thing. No, I do think they moved Billy
- 46:26down because it would make the main look bad.
- 46:29To be compared directly afterwards. And honestly,
- 46:33I think it would have been better. Yeah, exactly.
- 46:37Let's prop him up. I think, honestly, it would
- 46:40have made the whole event feel better if they
- 46:42put it as a co -main. In hindsight, it's like,
- 46:45damn. I'm going to get into it right now, but
- 46:46it was like, those two fights were good as fuck,
- 46:49dude. Good as fuck. Well, is that enough for
- 46:54Callum Walsh and Fernando Vargas? Not a whole
- 46:57lot. Callum Walsh. The fight was... Callum Walsh,
- 47:00retire now, please. What's the statement? Two
- 47:04bums? Two bums. Two bums. The new IBF champion?
- 47:08No W. Two bums. Two bums. All right. Now, the
- 47:17reason that we're here. Terrence Crawford beats
- 47:23Saul Canelo Alvarez. In 12. Let me start by preparing
- 47:32my healthy serving of crow with a lot of humble
- 47:38pie on the side because I picked Canelo. It was
- 47:45a coin flip, but I still went with it. I stand
- 47:48by what I went with. Crawford pitched the perfect
- 47:55game. Canelo was... We were talking about, before
- 48:00we started, talking about Canelo being good on
- 48:03the inside. Who was that that was... Yeah. That
- 48:09was me. I thought Canelo was winning the exchanges
- 48:12on the inside, but his feet are so fucking retarded.
- 48:16Canelo can't catch anyone anymore. No, and it's
- 48:20like his... It's not even... It's just the cutting
- 48:24off the ring. too that just like even if his
- 48:28feet weren't there it's just the fact that like
- 48:30he just doesn't I don't know if it's the attention
- 48:33span or like the wear and tear but like ADHD
- 48:37in the middle of the ring like I'm fucking serious
- 48:40like like like I'm serious like he just cannot
- 48:43get the like the ring cutting going and it's
- 48:48that's Like, it's probably the most frustrating
- 48:51part, because you know what? You cut off the
- 48:53ring, you get to him, Crawford outmans you there,
- 48:55whatever. But, like, if you let Crawford stay
- 48:59in second gear for 80 % of the fight, and just,
- 49:03like, hate you? It's not... It's on you. I think
- 49:09one of the issues with Canelo is he, if you look
- 49:12at, you know... 10 000 foot view of his career
- 49:15the fighters that have given us him the most
- 49:17trouble are the ones that are able to fight in
- 49:19both directions right the ones that are constantly
- 49:21switching up like when he doesn't have like one
- 49:25area where he's dominant he really really struggles
- 49:28and you could see him getting progressively more
- 49:30frustrated over the course of the fight he wasn't
- 49:33even getting like like distressed he was just
- 49:36like pissed like why the can't i catch this guy
- 49:38and it was because Crawford was very, very intelligently
- 49:43mixing what range he was going to fight. He's
- 49:45like, I'll fight in the pocket, counter -punching
- 49:48at times, and then as soon as it gets a little
- 49:50too sketchy, I'm out. I'm back on my bike. I'm
- 49:54boxing you from long range. And he could not
- 49:56cope with that, that style change mid -fight.
- 49:59He kept telling me to reset the whole fight.
- 50:01He would start kind of getting into a groove,
- 50:03and boom, Crawford moves. There were times that
- 50:06Crawford would get in the corner, move. Kano
- 50:09would start trying to load up a punch, and Crawford
- 50:11would already be on the other side of the ring.
- 50:13He would be inching towards him, and then he's
- 50:15already moving laterally out of position. It's
- 50:18not like a skull where he keeps backpedaling
- 50:21out of it. Genuinely, the lateral movement and
- 50:24ring craft is just... Holy shit. I don't want
- 50:28to hear anybody say Crawford was running. That
- 50:30was not running at all. That's the comparison
- 50:34I'm saying. In my personal opinion, I think that
- 50:38this is probably the best performance against
- 50:40Canelo anybody's ever had. Better than Bivol.
- 50:43Even better than Mayweather, in my opinion. I
- 50:46mean, this was a masterclass. I don't know about
- 50:49that. Canelo didn't even land on Mayweather.
- 50:55Look, look, look. Well, hold up. Mayweather,
- 50:57look at the times it happened, okay? Mayweather,
- 51:00it was when it was early in his career. If you're
- 51:04looking at it that way, Canelo's over the hill
- 51:06right now, too. Well, it depends. It's half glass
- 51:09full, half glass empty. I think he's the most
- 51:11seasoned he's been in his whole career. Season
- 51:13doesn't matter if your legs don't get going.
- 51:15Horrible. Well, the thing is that, let me tell
- 51:18you this. Wait, wait, wait, hold on. Like, B
- 51:19-Hop against Joe Smith Jr., that was the most
- 51:22seasoned Bernard Hopkins ever. He was also 52
- 51:25and had no legs left. I will say this, too. It's
- 51:30not like Canelo didn't train. And it's also like
- 51:33Canelo did not try to fight. Okay. He had a game
- 51:36plan. I mean, we all saw he was trying to go
- 51:38for the body first. You know, he tried doing
- 51:41what he does with all the big fighters. Goes
- 51:43to the body, fucking jab, jab over him, right?
- 51:46You know, it didn't work. He had a plan and he
- 51:50looked, he probably looked, in my opinion, he
- 51:53looked the slimmest he's been in years. So it's
- 51:56not like he didn't train. He put in the effort
- 51:59to win. And it just wasn't enough. And I don't
- 52:06think we should just look at this as a Canelo
- 52:08fail, because in order for Crawford to win this
- 52:11fight, he had to bring an all time performance.
- 52:14And that's what he brought. And, you know, over
- 52:16on the casuals, when we were talking about this
- 52:19fight, I talked about the one scenario I could
- 52:22see Crawford winning. And it was what we sort
- 52:26of saw here. It was similar to the Spence fight
- 52:28where. canelo wants to come forward crawford
- 52:31wants accepts that and wants to punch second
- 52:33and that's basically how this fight came out
- 52:36in those exchanges crawford was just better every
- 52:39single time like and i mean especially like i
- 52:42think it was round eight or nine they got into
- 52:44some seriously like dangerous exchanges and in
- 52:47the last couple fights granted against inferior
- 52:50competition canelo was like you know knocking
- 52:53munguia or belonger out or not out, but he completely
- 52:56shut them down with one dynamic punch. And in
- 53:01this fight, he wasn't able to find that punch
- 53:04on Crawford because Crawford, in those exchanges,
- 53:07was able to keep his defense and his offense
- 53:09at the same level. He never let himself get out
- 53:12of position, and whatever Canelo hit him with,
- 53:15he hit him back like three or four times more.
- 53:18Yeah, I mean, I think that, like, I think what
- 53:22made me realize that Crawford won the fight was
- 53:24when they would get into the pocket and Crawford
- 53:27would beat the shit out of him in the pocket
- 53:28and just move out the way. I was like, dude,
- 53:30there's no way he's winning the fight. Because
- 53:32if Canelo can't even win in the pocket and get
- 53:34a shot in, how the fuck can you reach him any
- 53:37time in the fight, you know? He beat him at his
- 53:40own game. And there was times, I believe, I think
- 53:42it was, like, the 10th round, where it looked
- 53:44like vintage Canelo was coming out, like, vintage,
- 53:46like, when he was, like, triple G. type canelo
- 53:49where he was just throwing throwing throwing
- 53:51just you know trying to land a punch and oh my
- 53:53god he couldn't get in you know crawford it was
- 53:58it was a master class you know it was beautiful
- 54:01crawford took the punches better than i expected
- 54:04as well i thought canelo was gonna hurt him Like,
- 54:08really hurt him. And Crawford was hurt a couple
- 54:10times. I don't care what people say. He was hurt
- 54:13a couple times. Yeah. He has his dog. He has
- 54:17that dog in him. Yeah. I was impressed with Crawford's
- 54:21ability to take a punch. I didn't think he would
- 54:24handle it that well, and that's why I was thinking
- 54:27Canelo would win. I lean towards that same mentality.
- 54:32A very, very good... smaller guy is going to
- 54:37lose to the very good bigger guy. That's kind
- 54:42of what I went with. Unfortunately, Canelo's
- 54:44just not very good anymore. Yeah, he's not very
- 54:46good. He was never good, actually. He was my
- 54:49hater. Two bums. Two bums. Two bums. I think
- 54:58there are parallels here, though, between you
- 55:01know Crawford and Usyk right both guys jumping
- 55:04up like an absurd amount of weight from you know
- 55:06where they've been standing and like yet they're
- 55:09able to overcome that sort of odds just like
- 55:13purely from boxing IQ yeah they just they succeed
- 55:16in different ways though like Crawford very much
- 55:19it's uh it's a very lateral like he definitely
- 55:24uses a ring of generalship To overcome whatever
- 55:29shortcomings the size may give him. Whereas Usyk
- 55:32flat out. His offensive craft. And like forward
- 55:36footwork. Were his highlight traits. In the weight
- 55:41jumps. Right. Like stylistically they couldn't
- 55:44be more different. But I think the core of it
- 55:46is. Like. They are just masters of their craft.
- 55:50They know. If you put the right kind of style.
- 55:53Especially like I think. In hindsight. the kind
- 55:56of style that canelo brought out that's exactly
- 55:58what crawford wants he wants someone that will
- 56:01come to him don't make me chase you down like
- 56:04you know madrimov did or you know madrimov the
- 56:07way he i think we were there i think i know we
- 56:11were there live for that fight uh me and leo
- 56:13um and that fight was cut which is frustrating
- 56:16because madrimov would not stay still he wouldn't
- 56:19really press forward and range or ever commit
- 56:21but moving from the opening bell canelo is Loading
- 56:26up power shots immediately. He's wading into
- 56:28Crawford's territory. And once he's there. There's
- 56:32no one better than him. Clearly. There's no one
- 56:36that can touch him. When you step into that world.
- 56:38I will say. This is where I. I fully agree. In
- 56:44the realm of possibility. At those lower weight
- 56:47classes. Again. I say that's where U6 is the
- 56:50strongest. In those deep waters. But I guess.
- 56:53Part of it is how much dog, not to interrupt,
- 56:57but like the most standout trait isn't even a
- 57:00skill one from Crawford and Usyk, like tangentially.
- 57:04They have this like intangible freak athleticism
- 57:08and even more intangible determination that really
- 57:12like they assert their will, even if they're
- 57:16not necessarily in a good spot. Yeah, I could
- 57:22totally see that, because every time that Crawford
- 57:24got bothered, he made it a point to pay Canelo
- 57:27back. Even if he didn't get him back as good,
- 57:29the next round he poured it on. Yeah, and same
- 57:32with Usyk. You see his highlight moments at heavyweight
- 57:35are always when this huge Goliath rushes him,
- 57:40gives him some adversity, and he takes a breath,
- 57:43sits down, comes back, and just pillared a post.
- 57:49And it's like, Like, it's only happened with
- 57:52AJ and Fury because those have been, like, they're
- 57:54not these most skilled opponents, but they're
- 57:56definitely his hardest opponents. And even with
- 57:59Bratis and Michael Hunter, you saw it there,
- 58:02too, where, like, they give him some adversity,
- 58:04and instead of, like, backing up at it, he just
- 58:09has that dog to be able to, and that's something
- 58:12that, like, I... I appreciate a lot from Crawford
- 58:17in that fight because very easily he could have
- 58:19just backed up, moved laterally, and watched
- 58:22Canelo. No, just not even because Charlo only
- 58:27went backwards. Crawford could have made a sort
- 58:30of backward lateral move and kept Canelo floundering.
- 58:34But no, when faced with adversity, he showed
- 58:37that intangible. He's always had it, but here
- 58:43he can actually, again, in a truly necessary
- 58:47great moment, he really gets to show those intangibles.
- 58:54Crawford proved that he was a great fighter and
- 58:57that Canelo was just a very good fighter. It's
- 59:01crazy to me because I was just thinking over
- 59:03yesterday, it's like Canelo's whole career has
- 59:06been building up towards losing to Crawford.
- 59:08This is Crawford's legacy, you know? He'd be
- 59:11killed. Who fought Mayweather? Who fought Bevo?
- 59:14Who fought all these guys? I think it's hyperbolic.
- 59:17I think it's hyperbolic to say Crawford is top
- 59:2110, top 15, all -time greatest. Because his legacy
- 59:28is going to boil. As much as the eye test can
- 59:32carry, he just needed more fights against truly
- 59:38good opposition. to be because yes he has the
- 59:44because the thing is that like like excluding
- 59:47whatever excuses haters like myself can make
- 59:50about spence and canelo where is the good fights
- 59:54his entire legacy is predicated on two wins where
- 59:57he showed his greatness but for the rest of his
- 1:00:00career it's honestly like the fact that his hardest
- 1:00:04fight is against mean machine is not great because
- 1:00:09like In every great fighters, like all -time
- 1:00:13great fighters, they have good wins. They have
- 1:00:16good wins, they have great wins. Like, you're
- 1:00:20not going to... Yeah, beating Hagler... I was
- 1:00:22going to say mediocre wins against very mediocre
- 1:00:26guys. Beating guys, like Sugar Ray Leonard is
- 1:00:29a comparison point here. Because, yes, he beat
- 1:00:33Hagler, earns Duran. But he also has a lot of
- 1:00:37very good wins at his weight classes that he
- 1:00:42fought at. Let's take a peek. Yeah, Donny Lalonde
- 1:00:49at super middleweight. That was a good win. Not
- 1:00:52an all -time great opponent win, but that's a
- 1:00:54good win. That's a good win. It's similar to
- 1:00:56this fight where he went up and beat a bigger
- 1:00:58guy. Not a great guy, but... Wilfred Benitez
- 1:01:02is an underrated great win. And he dominated
- 1:01:07that man. Yeah. But at the same time, like, yeah,
- 1:01:12you're right. Trigger Leonard's resume is definitely
- 1:01:14one of the greatest of all time. And the thing
- 1:01:17is, he's considered one of the greatest of all
- 1:01:19time. Yeah, but that's the company Crawford is
- 1:01:22entering. But I don't, like, I think he can be,
- 1:01:26like, this is being, like, extremely down on
- 1:01:30it and saying, like, top 30 all time. And that
- 1:01:34will just be on... That's still great. Great,
- 1:01:38great, great. Yeah, 100%. But it's purely...
- 1:01:40It's purely like... Again, I've already made
- 1:01:45my case for why I dislike him outside of the
- 1:01:47ring for that top rank extension. But the thing
- 1:01:50is that in the world where he goes to PVC, he
- 1:01:54has those good wins. He has those good wins.
- 1:01:57He has Thurman and Porter. He moves up to 154.
- 1:02:03He'd probably get Danny Garcia at 54 instead
- 1:02:06of Madrimov, who's somebody that will probably
- 1:02:09not be considered a good win considering how
- 1:02:12strong the division is. He probably hangs with
- 1:02:14Boots at some point. So he has a bunch of...
- 1:02:22I use Ray Leonard as the example because outside
- 1:02:25of the standout wins, he has a pretty thin resume.
- 1:02:28He was a bit of a diva. Ugas too. But even then,
- 1:02:33you're right. Ugas. Pacquiao. He would have had
- 1:02:36Pacquiao. Yeah, he would have had Pacquiao. He
- 1:02:40would have had Barrios. He would have had a better
- 1:02:43Spence. Yeah. And a better Canelo. And the thing
- 1:02:47is that if he's at 168 at the time Canelo becomes
- 1:02:49undisputed, you're not... There's... Benavidez
- 1:02:53and Morella right there. And the thing is...
- 1:02:56That's assuming he... Mikey Garcia. That's assuming
- 1:02:59he fights... More than once a year, though. No,
- 1:03:03but even with the once a year... I think with
- 1:03:04quality opponents like that, I think he would
- 1:03:06fight more than once a year. Yeah, but instead
- 1:03:08of Amir Khan and Kell Brook, even if you swap
- 1:03:11out the top -ranked extension fights with all
- 1:03:15good contenders, now you have a resume that is
- 1:03:19like, you can crack top 20, top 15 conversations.
- 1:03:23Because... I mean, I think him doing this in
- 1:03:27general puts him in the top 15. My opinion probably
- 1:03:31top, yeah, definitely top 50. The reason, the
- 1:03:34thing is that, like, if you look at fighters
- 1:03:37before weight classes became so common, like,
- 1:03:41again, Leonard moving up to 168 to fight Donny
- 1:03:45Lalonde, that was one of the first, like, major
- 1:03:49168 clashes. The weight class was very new. Like,
- 1:03:53the weight jumps, weight jumps were scarier,
- 1:03:56like... there because you had because like again
- 1:03:59leonard on a three -year layoff went from 147
- 1:04:03to 160 which is the same jump to fight hagler
- 1:04:07who is a infinitely like i will at that stage
- 1:04:12in the career yeah hagler was probably on the
- 1:04:15downside but it's not like he was anywhere near
- 1:04:18over the hill this was marvin hagler no i mean
- 1:04:25That itself is legendary. They were great comparisons
- 1:04:29to that fight with this fight. But that's the
- 1:04:32point of it's great. It's absolutely a testament
- 1:04:37to Crawford's greatness. And I say this as a
- 1:04:40complete this guy is detestable outside of the
- 1:04:43ring. I don't think a bigger loser could be an
- 1:04:46all -time great. This guy's going to waste all
- 1:04:50his money with his seven kids and be back fighting
- 1:04:52Jake Paul in 12 years. We pushed it out a few
- 1:04:57years, but we're still back on Jake Paul. I think
- 1:05:01he's done. I think Crawford's done after this.
- 1:05:03I'm surprised if he goes and fights another fight.
- 1:05:06There's nothing better than this, honestly. The
- 1:05:08thing is, you have to consider the way his life...
- 1:05:11Yeah, he lives incredibly frugal, but this guy
- 1:05:14will not stop having kids. He's got enough money
- 1:05:18to feed a million kids. Go to Africa. No, but
- 1:05:22the thing is, Crawford strikes me as somebody
- 1:05:28who, again, he's always believed he's a bigger
- 1:05:31star than he actually has been. I'm not saying
- 1:05:37he's going to gamble the money away like Michael
- 1:05:40Jordan does. I'm saying he's going to make some
- 1:05:43bad business investments with putting his name
- 1:05:45on it. Maybe a chain of restaurants, a car dealership,
- 1:05:48something that doesn't work out. and he'll be
- 1:05:54back which is unfortunate but so i think with
- 1:05:57that threat and the threat of seven kids you're
- 1:06:02going to you're going to run into turkey especially
- 1:06:05because like turkey's going to offer him a fight
- 1:06:09like a check he cannot refuse a check especially
- 1:06:13because crawford can be buttered up real easy
- 1:06:17He's going to butter Crawford up. Be like, listen,
- 1:06:19man, you will be the greatest of all time. I'm
- 1:06:21going to give you like $300 million if you face
- 1:06:24my guy here, David Benavidez or something like
- 1:06:27that. I do want to give someone time that they
- 1:06:30are. Oh, absolutely. For a while. Yeah, he's
- 1:06:34been here for a while. He's going to go to bed
- 1:06:35soon. We got to get his piece in. We've all been
- 1:06:38talking. This guy just barely joined. We got
- 1:06:41to hear what he's got to say. Welcome in, Isaac.
- 1:06:44So I'm the resident Canelo fan. Yeah, go ahead
- 1:06:48and get your booze in. I was cheering for him,
- 1:06:52hoping he would win this fight. I did know that
- 1:06:56he could possibly lose. I even told all of my
- 1:07:00family. I mean, they didn't believe me again,
- 1:07:02even though I told them that in the bubble fight.
- 1:07:03But I told them there's real chances that Canelo
- 1:07:06could lose. And man, dude, bud. Bud is an all
- 1:07:12-time great boxer, not just in this era. He is
- 1:07:16an all -time great boxer. He's a very special
- 1:07:20fighter. I said the same thing whenever we saw
- 1:07:23Usyk do his thing with Fury and Dubois. And I'm
- 1:07:29going to say it again with Bud. This is a very
- 1:07:31special fighter. And this is in our era. We're
- 1:07:37seeing a spectacle, man. It's one of those things
- 1:07:41that's humbling to see. And, I mean, bro, not
- 1:07:45every generation gets a fighter like this. I
- 1:07:49mean, this is amazing to see. Bud is just incredibly
- 1:07:54talented as a boxer. I mean, he was in fighting
- 1:07:58with Canelo multiple times throughout the fight.
- 1:08:01And, you know, landing pretty well. I mean, you
- 1:08:03compare their faces in the post -fight press
- 1:08:06conference. Bud was barely touched. I mean, Canelo
- 1:08:10landed some, but not... There was at no point
- 1:08:13in the fight where I was like, oh, Bud is hurt.
- 1:08:15You know, Canelo landed a few times, but there
- 1:08:17was nothing really substantial. And man, his
- 1:08:21defense was on point. His offense was on point.
- 1:08:24Book work, his feints. I mean, his counters.
- 1:08:28It was like from bottom to top, he was just...
- 1:08:34a near perfect fighter like it's pretty much
- 1:08:36as perfect as you can get and it was just an
- 1:08:39incredible to see man uh i had a feeling you
- 1:08:42know anyone that's saying robbery by the way
- 1:08:46is just completely wrong you can i i didn't even
- 1:08:50say robbery and i hate bud crawford more than
- 1:08:52most people love their mothers there's zero zero
- 1:08:56world where canelo wins that fight like you you
- 1:08:58cannot like canelo is my boy You can barely argue
- 1:09:03for a draw. Barely. There's no world where Canelo
- 1:09:08wins. Bud deserved that win. And, you know, for
- 1:09:11people saying, like, oh, Canelo's, he's more
- 1:09:14washed. I mean, like, yes, but Bud came up in
- 1:09:18weight. So that cancels each other out. I mean,
- 1:09:21it's, give him his flowers. Give Bud his flowers.
- 1:09:24Like, this is an all -time great win, and his
- 1:09:27name just shot up. an all -time great list. I
- 1:09:30mean, three -time Undisputed. He went from, like,
- 1:09:34fourth or fifth in this era, in my estimation,
- 1:09:37to, like, okay, one or two interchangeably. And,
- 1:09:42like, he's in the conversation. Absolutely. He's
- 1:09:46at the table. Yeah. Yeah. It's a special fighter,
- 1:09:49man. It's nice to see, man. This is... I mean,
- 1:09:55I said this with Nathan and Leo after... Usyk
- 1:09:59completely dismantled Dubois. We don't get to
- 1:10:05see these type of fighters often. So whenever
- 1:10:08they do come around, I mean, it's must watch
- 1:10:12and just enjoy. Like, take it in. Because these
- 1:10:16fighters really, it's a rarity. It's a rarity.
- 1:10:20So just, like, really enjoy it. Like, you know,
- 1:10:23he's not going to be, he's going to turn 38 here
- 1:10:26soon. He's not going to be around long. We'll
- 1:10:30see what he does next, but whatever he does coming
- 1:10:34up, I mean, just enjoy the time we have left
- 1:10:36with him because it's going to be a while before
- 1:10:39we see a fighter on his level again. I wouldn't
- 1:10:44be surprised if he retires. I hope he does. I
- 1:10:49was expecting him. I'm stating the case for how
- 1:10:53Al -Ashid gets him back. I mean, it's easy money.
- 1:11:00I mean, I could see him coming back for one more.
- 1:11:03Just because after this win... He wants to revel
- 1:11:07in it. Yeah, his stock has gone up. His next
- 1:11:10paycheck, if he does come back, has got to be
- 1:11:13way more. And it's going to be... Crawford has
- 1:11:17enough of ego, per se, that it'll make it actually...
- 1:11:22It'll validate him and every choice he's made,
- 1:11:25almost. like he can he can be buttered up and
- 1:11:30he can be validated into taking the next like
- 1:11:33doesn't matter who it's with turkey could be
- 1:11:35like all right bro i have cloned mike tyson from
- 1:11:39the year 1986 and you're gonna fight him and
- 1:11:44you know what if the check is big enough and
- 1:11:46the stage is big enough crawford will do one
- 1:11:48more and retire you know he was saying 160. They
- 1:11:56asked him whenever he was at the analyst table.
- 1:11:59He said, you know, potentially 160, because he's
- 1:12:02not going back to 154, but potentially 160 he
- 1:12:04could do. It'd be really disappointing. Four
- 1:12:07time undisputed. But I mean, he'd go from Canelo
- 1:12:13to someone like Janabek, which is like really...
- 1:12:15Like Janabek is more likely to be like... retired
- 1:12:23than fighting crawford if we're looking at the
- 1:12:25scaling event i think like yes it would be nice
- 1:12:28for crawford to win another title in another
- 1:12:30weight class but i think more than anything he
- 1:12:33wants an event that is his because his two biggest
- 1:12:36fights up to date has been him has been spence
- 1:12:39and him and canelo and him he needs that validation
- 1:12:45is something that like you know it's a little
- 1:12:48parasocial for me to surmise but the way he has
- 1:12:52gotten on top rank and like the way he carried
- 1:12:54himself around the build up to the spence fight
- 1:12:57basically like he needs he wants to be the show
- 1:13:01and you know what good for it good for him he
- 1:13:08deserves it if like as a hater and as as a hater
- 1:13:11and a fan i would like benavidez That'd be such
- 1:13:15a nice fight. I don't even have Benavidez winning
- 1:13:22that. That's a toss -up. I think another one
- 1:13:27that... This is a clear... This other one that
- 1:13:33I'm thinking of is Crawford would be favored
- 1:13:36by a lot. But you could put him against Jermel
- 1:13:38at 160. Because that's a grudge match. These
- 1:13:41guys hate each other. And that would absolutely
- 1:13:43be a profit to them. I would love to see that.
- 1:13:48It's either Charlo or another guy. Boots. Boots.
- 1:13:54I don't think he's interested in fighting Boots.
- 1:13:58I don't know. That would be a fun fight. as much
- 1:14:01again I've stated my love for boots and my love
- 1:14:03to see that fight I don't think it's smart for
- 1:14:05Crawford to come down to 154 and I don't think
- 1:14:08it's smart for boots to go up to 160 I think
- 1:14:13there's also whatever fight he gets sold next
- 1:14:16it I think there can't just be money there has
- 1:14:19to be legacy attached to it because right now
- 1:14:21I mean y 'all might disagree with me but I think
- 1:14:24this is the single best win of any boxer I've
- 1:14:27watched in my lifetime. Like, I can't think of
- 1:14:29another single win taken standalone that's better,
- 1:14:32considering all the circumstances. In this era?
- 1:14:36No, I think Usyk Fury is pretty high up there.
- 1:14:40It's the closest one, I think. I don't deny that
- 1:14:43at all, but I mean, if you look at the circumstances,
- 1:14:47like Nakatani Inoue is going to be, that's going
- 1:14:52to be the one I point at. That's more for the
- 1:14:55Japanese. That's more for the hardcore. That's
- 1:14:58for the hardcore. Not a lot of people from our
- 1:15:01side of the world were going to tune into that,
- 1:15:03unfortunately. Just that, like, you're going
- 1:15:08to have to have a fight that has serious legacy
- 1:15:10ramifications, right? Because when he took that
- 1:15:12Spence fight, that wasn't just, I'm finally getting
- 1:15:14paid. That's, I'm beating my generational rival,
- 1:15:17right? And when he took this Canelo fight, he's
- 1:15:20like, I'm beating a guy who's been a pound for
- 1:15:22pound fighter for the last decade right challenging
- 1:15:26the generation yes he needs something along those
- 1:15:31lines and yeah but i mean like just evaluating
- 1:15:34this one win like there's very few fights i think
- 1:15:37that that rise to the level like once you think
- 1:15:39of like like like i just said canelo has been
- 1:15:42on the pound for pound list for the basically
- 1:15:45over a decade at this point And, you know, we
- 1:15:48can say all we want about how he's regressed.
- 1:15:50But I mean, the fact that he jumped practically
- 1:15:53three weight classes, like I don't even count
- 1:15:55154 that much. He spent years and years as a
- 1:15:59welterweight. He jumps up for one fight, then
- 1:16:01moves to 168 and does that like he wins convincingly.
- 1:16:06I mean, it's it defies all the logic you should
- 1:16:09see because he's doing that on the wrong side
- 1:16:11of 35 to like that doesn't happen. It never happens.
- 1:16:15Right. And like you start piling up all these
- 1:16:19things that it defies conventional wisdom that
- 1:16:22he should have won this fight in the way he did.
- 1:16:24And yet he did. And so like, right. The only
- 1:16:28other one that makes sense is you. Right. Where
- 1:16:31he's fighting a guy. He jumps up 30 pounds and
- 1:16:35he's still at a 30 pound weight disadvantage.
- 1:16:37Like that's a crazy jump up there. But I mean,
- 1:16:41I just had a crazy. What else? I just had a great
- 1:16:45thought. You know, years ago after the loss to
- 1:16:50Bavole, Bavole was saying that he dropped down
- 1:16:52to 168 to challenge for the Undisputed Super
- 1:16:56Metalweight title. Holy shit. Is there any world
- 1:16:59where he drops down to 168 to challenge Bud or
- 1:17:04the Undisputed 168? No. That's not happening.
- 1:17:09That's like Chad Rawson going back down to fight
- 1:17:11Andre Ward. hell hell no, but also like I don't
- 1:17:16I don't think it that I just like like as much
- 1:17:19as people is like Well as legacy as below might
- 1:17:24be like again I think more than like it needs
- 1:17:27to be a good blend of legacy and spectacle Crawford
- 1:17:31needs to be the a -side in an event To validate
- 1:17:35his entire career after himself. It's not like
- 1:17:38It's not yeah he would be the a side but i'm
- 1:17:43saying i'm saying it wouldn't be as much of an
- 1:17:45event you'd be like oh it's bibble but i'll say
- 1:17:49if you thought benavidez that would probably
- 1:17:51be the closest that's what i mean benavidez benavidez
- 1:17:53is a similar on a similar like say what you have
- 1:17:57a legacy benavidez is similar it's a bigger profile
- 1:18:01than b of old right now and he doesn't need to
- 1:18:07they could do it at a catch weight even like
- 1:18:09170. The thing is that also, this fight, like
- 1:18:12we were saying last time, was the grand finale
- 1:18:15of boxing. There was no passing of the torch.
- 1:18:17You know? There's no young fighter that's going
- 1:18:20to live on it. Pack it up, guys. No, seriously.
- 1:18:22Because, I mean, after this, I mean, are there
- 1:18:24really going to be a lot of Cinco de Mayo fights?
- 1:18:27Fucking... In the Mexican Independence Day fights
- 1:18:29for a while? I mean, that was Canelo's day. That
- 1:18:33is Canelo's day. I will say that... When's that
- 1:18:36next time it's going to happen? You know? I will
- 1:18:38say that... Turkey Alashik's involvement in the
- 1:18:42sport and everything has destroyed the prospect
- 1:18:44pipeline. So, like, yeah, once this generation
- 1:18:48is done, it's, we're gonna, like, yeah, this
- 1:18:51basically, like, if we're gonna treat it that
- 1:18:53way, this basically was the series finale. I
- 1:18:58do agree with that take. Because, honestly, like,
- 1:19:00it's kind of sad to say, but if Benavidez does
- 1:19:02fight Crawford, that can be a passing of the
- 1:19:05torch. A new start for another Mexican star to
- 1:19:08at least carry on For these days. At least fight
- 1:19:11twice a year, you know. On the days that Canelo
- 1:19:14fight, you know. It's just sad to think that.
- 1:19:19Like, it's bittersweet, actually, to me. I was
- 1:19:22thinking about it. I mean, I was so happy that
- 1:19:25Crawford won. I was literally, like, jumping
- 1:19:28up and down. And yelling, fuck yeah, beat his
- 1:19:33ass, type of thing, you know. At the end of the
- 1:19:36fight, I felt sad because I realized I was like,
- 1:19:38dude, I've been watching Canelo for the majority
- 1:19:42of my life. And it's sad to see him go out like
- 1:19:46that. I saw his rise, his peak, and his eventual
- 1:19:51decline. And it's sad to see that he's probably
- 1:19:56going to retire. Boxing is dead has been a cliche
- 1:20:00since they started letting black people box.
- 1:20:03But the way the prospect pipeline is so irreparably
- 1:20:10damaged at this point, because your options are
- 1:20:15either you have your amateur background, which
- 1:20:18is getting chipped away at by the year, just
- 1:20:21by society, and you hope that you become one
- 1:20:27of Turkey's darlings. or you fight on your regional
- 1:20:31circuit or pro box or wherever and you grind
- 1:20:35your way up only to be put against one of turkey's
- 1:20:38darlings on two weeks notice like we're gonna
- 1:20:43hit a prospect crisis not soon but it is on the
- 1:20:48horizon and it's something that doubles that
- 1:20:51kind of exacerbates the feeling of this feeling
- 1:20:53like a series finale almost I mean, right now,
- 1:20:58besides Canelo and, I guess, Tank, Tank's also
- 1:21:03gone, but, like, what other pay -per -view star
- 1:21:05is there? Virgil and Benavidez. Benavidez is
- 1:21:13the closest we have to someone who has, like,
- 1:21:16in a way, is known by casuals, but the issue
- 1:21:22is that, like, top -ranked sucks at putting his
- 1:21:24fights on in the United States. so him being
- 1:21:28on facebook is a hate crime i don't care what
- 1:21:31else to say like bro i've seen like beer league
- 1:21:34lacrosse with more viewers on facebook bro like
- 1:21:38this is it's criminal i think your your next
- 1:21:41other star besides the ones you listed genuinely
- 1:21:45i think it's moses aitama true like he's got
- 1:21:49a lot of potential but i i totally agree with
- 1:21:51what you're saying like there is there's not
- 1:21:53a whole lot of guys that we know about at this
- 1:21:55moment that who's ready to take the mantle right
- 1:21:58it feels like he got the last helicopter out
- 1:22:01of saigon though like very much like he's the
- 1:22:06like he's done like the way like he got the last
- 1:22:09helicopter out of saigon with how like he's being
- 1:22:13developed like a normal prospect instead of like
- 1:22:15what's going to happen which is that there are
- 1:22:20no prospects so we're just gonna See what works.
- 1:22:26In the lightweight classes, it'll be fine. Because
- 1:22:29he doesn't care. Yeah, like, the regional circuits
- 1:22:34in the lighter weight classes should remain fine,
- 1:22:37but, like, once you get to welterweight and above,
- 1:22:40like, you're already seeing it at middleweight
- 1:22:42and at heavyweight. Heavyweight is as talented
- 1:22:47as it's ever been, but, like, it's very top -heavy.
- 1:22:51These weight classes are really top heavy. And
- 1:22:54it's just going to erode with time if you don't
- 1:22:58have a spot. Because guys are going to stay amateur
- 1:23:00if they can't do anything in the pros. We'll
- 1:23:05get more Lomachenkos. And that's not great. You
- 1:23:10get guys who are too old. You get guys who just
- 1:23:13beat up on kids for the last 10 years and then
- 1:23:16can't cut it in the pros to their full potential
- 1:23:18because they didn't turn pro soon enough. Like,
- 1:23:24Lomachenko had a good career, but he could have,
- 1:23:26he could have all, like, it's something to say
- 1:23:29that he could have been so much more if he had
- 1:23:31just turned pro eight years earlier and actually
- 1:23:35became a pro. And we're going to, we're going
- 1:23:39to get a lot of disappointing prospects or prospects
- 1:23:41that never turned pro that you'd want them to
- 1:23:43turn pro. It's just, it's bleak. We're going
- 1:23:47to get a bunch of Demetrius Andres. It's bleak.
- 1:23:50And the thing is that everyone's going to still
- 1:23:54want to stay turkeys, darling. So you're going
- 1:23:57to get a bunch of androids. This is the same
- 1:24:00as the Mayweather sweepstakes, wasn't it? Where
- 1:24:03everybody just doesn't want to do anything because
- 1:24:05they want to remain pristine enough. But that
- 1:24:10was at the top. At the prospect level, you had
- 1:24:13guys like Thurman and Spence camp. Again, you
- 1:24:17had prospects campaigning. in search of the sweepstakes
- 1:24:22it's that's what it like when the sweepstakes
- 1:24:24is a fighter yeah it affects the top but the
- 1:24:28prospects really get moving to make it to the
- 1:24:31top level so they can get that shot when it's
- 1:24:35a promoter sweepstakes where you just you just
- 1:24:38sit on your ass there's no one there's no like
- 1:24:41there's no one to fight to get that or to no
- 1:24:44way to earn it you just it's rent it's chance
- 1:24:46almost Well, then that's when you sign up with
- 1:24:49the IBF. It's a bleak prospect pipeline is what
- 1:24:57I mean in terms of like how we traditionally
- 1:24:59consider prospect development, which is like
- 1:25:03it's going to be guys never reaching their full
- 1:25:06potential or turning pro too late or just getting
- 1:25:11like washed over because there's no opportunity
- 1:25:13to get built up. It's like, again, it's very
- 1:25:21much like a series finale of boxing. But again,
- 1:25:26I'm still going to stick around to see how bad
- 1:25:29it gets. And you know what? If nothing else,
- 1:25:33I have Inoue Nakatani to look forward to as one
- 1:25:37last super fight. You're so pessimistic. Boxing
- 1:25:42will be fine. Boxing's always fine. It's always
- 1:25:45fine, but the thing is that it's on a decline.
- 1:25:49It can be better, but it's on a decline right
- 1:25:51now. Yeah, it'll come back. I'm pessimistic because
- 1:25:55I like having the upper weight classes healthy.
- 1:26:01I do not... Nobody cares. Well, I don't care.
- 1:26:06Everybody cares except me. Everybody cares. That's
- 1:26:08the thing. Like, we're the hardcores. But, like,
- 1:26:11when I go to work and I talk to a guy, it's like,
- 1:26:15oh, did you see the Benavidez highlight clip
- 1:26:17on Instagram? It's never, like, did you see Bam
- 1:26:20Rodriguez fight last week? It should be. It should
- 1:26:24be. We are the hardcores, ostensibly. And I'm
- 1:26:30thinking more about, like, again, a kid, an absolute,
- 1:26:36like, a complete child. does not sign up for
- 1:26:39boxing because uh he watched um in a way cardenas
- 1:26:44as good as that fight was it's because he watched
- 1:26:48a really cool heavyweight fight where two fat
- 1:26:51dudes beat the out of each other no no i disagree
- 1:26:55boring no like that's how it was back in the
- 1:27:00day they would watch the heavyweight fights with
- 1:27:01george foreman and muhammad ali even in the 90s
- 1:27:05No, but you see the British boom in boxing was
- 1:27:09Audley Harrison. Yeah, that's true. A heavyweight.
- 1:27:14You're not wrong. You're not wrong. You're not
- 1:27:15wrong. But that's the British boom. And then
- 1:27:17it was David Price. You had AJ. And then AJ's
- 1:27:21era really, like, that's what I mean. It's always,
- 1:27:24like, an inspiring, like, in Europe. Like, Klitschko's
- 1:27:29being in Germany. kind of correlates to Germany
- 1:27:32having a really nice amateur scene right now.
- 1:27:36But you get small guys that do the same thing.
- 1:27:39Oh, absolutely. Not on the same scale, though.
- 1:27:42But the thing is that the upper... So many people
- 1:27:44started boxing because of Pacquiao. Heavyweight?
- 1:27:48Heavyweight? Yeah, you're right. But they built
- 1:27:51him up properly, promotionally. And that's the
- 1:27:56point we're trying to make. So many people are
- 1:27:59going to start boxing because of Bam and Inoue.
- 1:28:02I think a lot of people are going to start boxing
- 1:28:04because of this fight. When I look at Pacquiao's
- 1:28:09career here, the thing is that this is when Friday
- 1:28:15Night Fight cards existed and everything that
- 1:28:17he could be on. And there were so many dates
- 1:28:20that were filled. By a pile of promoters. That
- 1:28:23all had TV dates. They turn on their TV. Who
- 1:28:26is this Filipino dude? I can't pronounce his
- 1:28:28name. And he's beating the fuck out of this champion.
- 1:28:32Nowadays that doesn't exist. You can't flick
- 1:28:34on your TV. The culture is not there anymore.
- 1:28:37Because there are no TV deals. There's no room
- 1:28:41for a kid. To turn on his TV. On a Thursday night.
- 1:28:45And see this kid Pacquiao. Who had to put fucking
- 1:28:48rocks in his shorts. beating the fuck out of
- 1:28:51the world champion that story doesn't exist anymore
- 1:28:55and that's why i think the prospect pipeline
- 1:28:57is a little bleak i'm not saying the sport's
- 1:28:59gonna die out but i'm saying at the up by upper
- 1:29:02weight like upper weight classes is lightweight
- 1:29:04and above if you go at it mathematically and
- 1:29:07they're gonna dry up a little bit interest wise
- 1:29:10because there's like the like there's no there's
- 1:29:15no way it's not accessible And it gets less accessible
- 1:29:18to access the prospects. Because before they're
- 1:29:21stars, they're always prospects. And you need
- 1:29:24to be able to build them, not just as fighters,
- 1:29:27but promotionally at the prospect stage for free
- 1:29:30in an accessible way. Like ProBot. ProBot, exactly.
- 1:29:35But again, no TV deal. Just speaking of prospects,
- 1:29:40I have prospects for sleep tonight, so I'm going
- 1:29:42to dip. We've gone way off topic. We've gone
- 1:29:51way over. Appreciate you having us. Have a good
- 1:29:58one, fellas. Thank you for coming. We should
- 1:30:01wrap up. What were you going to say, Sol? I was
- 1:30:08going to say, I just want to say one last thing
- 1:30:10about the fight. Man. It was a spectacle, dude.
- 1:30:15I haven't felt like... Yeah, I haven't felt like
- 1:30:18that in forever, man. I remember... I would talk
- 1:30:23to people, just random people, about the fight
- 1:30:24on the street. I was surprised that actually
- 1:30:27people started talking about it, you know? It
- 1:30:29was actually... Yeah, exactly. But it was like
