- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarful Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Welcome to Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex.
- 0:18And I'm Morgan. Great to be with you today. It
- 0:20is Thursday, September 18th, 2025. And yeah,
- 0:23we've got quite a bit to talk about today. Some
- 0:25really interesting tech developments that connect
- 0:27directly to, well, how we live our digital lives.
- 0:31Absolutely. And just a quick look outside here
- 0:33in Sacramento. It's shaping up to be a nice day.
- 0:36We've got increasing clouds high around 89 degrees.
- 0:40Sounds pretty good. What about nationally? Well,
- 0:42nationally, there's some tropical moisture causing
- 0:44a bit of a headache in the southwest, a slight
- 0:46risk of excessive rainfall through Friday. So
- 0:49flood watches are up there. OK, good heads up
- 0:51for anyone listening out that way. Yeah. And
- 0:53also some strong, maybe even severe thunderstorms
- 0:56possible today across. parts of the plains. Plus,
- 1:00a tropical wave is bringing heavy rain to Puerto
- 1:02Rico and the Virgin Islands, potential for some
- 1:04flooding and landslides. So, yeah, stay safe
- 1:07out there, folks. Definitely. All right. Let's
- 1:09peek at the markets real quick. The Dow Jones
- 1:10closed yesterday down just a tiny bit point one
- 1:13three percent. Still up for the week, though.
- 1:15OK. Holding steady mostly. Yeah. And the S &P
- 1:17500 barely moved up point zero two percent daily.
- 1:21Yeah. Also positive for the week. Good. Good.
- 1:23And Bitcoin. Well, Bitcoin being Bitcoin up.
- 1:260 .85 % yesterday. Still climbing. Still climbing,
- 1:30yeah. Up over one and three -quarter percent
- 1:32for the week. It's always interesting to watch,
- 1:34isn't it? It really is. Never a dull moment there.
- 1:36But you know what was exciting yesterday? Our
- 1:39San Francisco Giants. They absolutely crushed
- 1:42the Diamondbacks five to one. Yes. A fantastic
- 1:45win. Oh, it was great. Joel Peguero got the win.
- 1:48Just solid baseball all around. You just love
- 1:50to see the Giants pull one out like that. Definitely
- 1:52a good day for Giants fans. A very good day.
- 1:55And speaking of good things, we want to give
- 1:57a big thank you to our sponsor, Pins and Aces.
- 1:59Right. If you play golf, or even if you just
- 2:02like looking sharp, you really need to check
- 2:04out their premium golf apparel and accessories.
- 2:07It's top -notch stuff. It really is quality gear.
- 2:09And the best part, use our promo code SNARFL.

- 2:17and you'll get a full 21 % off your entire order.
- 2:21Wow, 21%. That's a great deal. pinsanddances
- 2:25.com code SNARRFiele. Exactly. Go check them
- 2:29out. Alright, let's switch gears. From the green
- 2:33to, well, this... sometimes glitchy world of
- 2:37tech. Yeah, today we're kind of diving into how
- 2:39close we really are to this seamless tech integration
- 2:42we keep hearing about. And maybe more importantly,
- 2:45where are those unexpected bumps in the road
- 2:47popping up? Right, like Meta for instance. They
- 2:49had their big connective van, showed off some
- 2:50cool stuff, but also... had some very public
- 2:53stumbles. Then we'll look at their push to build
- 2:56this VR entertainment universe. Finally, earbuds
- 2:59getting kind of a radical upgrade. It all ties
- 3:02into how we communicate and consume media. Exactly.
- 3:05So let's start with MetaConnect 2025. They unveiled
- 3:08new wearables, the Ray -Ban display glasses,
- 3:11Oakley Vanguard, looked promising. Yeah, but
- 3:13the live demos, oh boy, some pretty noticeable
- 3:16technical glitches kind of stole the spotlight
- 3:19during the livestream. Right, and these aren't
- 3:21just, you know, minor hiccups. They really show
- 3:23the gap between tech that works perfectly in
- 3:25a lab and tech that has to work in the messy
- 3:26real world. Like that cooking catastrophe. Oh,
- 3:29yeah. Food creator Jack Mancuso was trying to
- 3:33make a Korean -inspired steak sauce, right? Using
- 3:36the new meta ray -band display glasses AI to
- 3:39guide him sounds cool in theory in theory But
- 3:43the AI apparently got muddled it started skipping
- 3:46steps like telling him you've already combined
- 3:48the base ingredients So now great the pair oops
- 3:51not quite there yet not quite he blamed the Wi
- 3:53-Fi which okay fair enough Maybe and Zuckerberg
- 3:57even joked about it saying something like The
- 3:59irony, you spend years making technology and
- 4:02then the Wi -Fi catches you. Which is funny,
- 4:05but also kind of highlights a real problem, doesn't
- 4:08it? Is the infrastructure, like basic Wi -Fi,
- 4:11actually ready for these super advanced AI and
- 4:13AR experiences Meta's pushing? That's the million
- 4:16dollar question, isn't it? Are we building tech
- 4:18that relies on perfect conditions that just don't
- 4:20exist most of the time? And it wasn't just the
- 4:22cooking demo. No, it wasn't. Zuckerberg tried
- 4:24to do a live video call with the CTO Andrew Bosworth
- 4:28using those Ray -Ban display glasses paired with
- 4:30the new Metaneural band. Okay, so there's a core
- 4:33function demo. Right, and the glasses just wouldn't
- 4:35connect, even with the hand gestures supposed
- 4:37to control it. Nothing. Ouch. Live demos are
- 4:40brutal. They really are. Bosworth quicked, this
- 4:43Wi -Fi is brutal, and then added You practice
- 4:46these things like a hundred times and then you
- 4:48never know what's going to happen. So true. It
- 4:50just underscores the challenge, right? Taking
- 4:52this cutting edge AI, this augmented reality
- 4:55and making it reliable enough for everyday use,
- 4:58not just a controlled demo. Exactly. How's it
- 5:00going to perform when you're actually walking
- 5:02down the street or in a noisy cafe, not on a
- 5:05stage with optimized conditions? It's that real
- 5:08world reliability gap. Yeah, makes you think.
- 5:11But. Okay, despite the glitches, they did launch
- 5:13some interesting products. Oh, for sure. The
- 5:15tech itself is pretty ambitious. Let's talk about
- 5:18the Meta Ray -Ban display glasses. They're priced
- 5:20at $799, and that includes the neural band. So
- 5:24what exactly are they? A mix of things? Yeah,
- 5:26think of them as blending the existing Ray -Ban
- 5:28AI smart glasses tech with Meta's more advanced
- 5:31Project Orion AR concepts. And that neural band
- 5:35is key. It uses electromyography, EMG. EMG? Mm
- 5:38-hmm. That measures muscle signals, right. For
- 5:41control. Exactly. It measures the electrical
- 5:43activity in your muscles allowing for really
- 5:44subtle, precise control, maybe even eventually
- 5:47through just thinking about a command that we're
- 5:49not quite there yet. Okay, so what do you actually
- 5:51see with these glasses? There's a small display
- 5:53in the bottom right lens. It's 600 by 600 resolution,
- 5:5720 degree field of view, not fully immersive
- 6:00like VR, but enough for info overlays. And bright
- 6:04enough for outside? That's always been a problem.
- 6:06Supposedly, yes. 5 ,000 nits brightness, which
- 6:09is seriously bright, should be visible even in
- 6:11direct sunlight. And it can show visual meta
- 6:14AI responses, texts, handle video calls on WhatsApp
- 6:18or Messenger, do navigation, translation, captions,
- 6:21even act as a live viewfinder for the camera.
- 6:23OK, that's a lot packed in. What are the Oakley
- 6:26ones? Right, the Oakley Vanguard Smart Glasses.
- 6:29These are $499, developed with Essler Lexotica,
- 6:33obviously leveraging Oakley's sports design expertise.
- 6:36So aimed at athletes. Definitely. Center -mounted
- 6:3912 megapixel camera, records 3K video, uses Oakley
- 6:43Sphera curved lens and their three -point fit
- 6:45system for stability. They're IP67 rated, so
- 6:49dust and water resistant. Good for sweating and
- 6:51maybe some rain. Yep. Plus powerful open -ear
- 6:54speakers, a five -mic array designed to cut down
- 6:57wind noise crucial for cycling or running and
- 6:59up to nine hours of battery. And they integrate
- 7:01with Garmin and Strava for sharing activity data.
- 7:04Makes sense. And there was a refresh of the regular
- 7:06Ray -Ban AI glasses too. Yeah, Ray -Ban AI glasses
- 7:09version two. More affordable at $379. They bumped
- 7:13the battery life up to eight hours, improved
- 7:16video to 3K Ultra HD with HDR up to 60 frames
- 7:19per second, fast charging too. New software features.
- 7:22Yep. Live translation, which is huge. conversation
- 7:26-focused, that feature sounds neat, it boosts
- 7:27the volume of the person you're talking to in
- 7:29a loud place. And live AI, letting you talk to
- 7:32the AI in real time for information, comes in
- 7:34some new frame styles too. Wayfair, Skyler, Headliner.
- 7:37Okay, so despite the demo drama, Meta is definitely
- 7:39pushing hard on wearables. Ambitious stuff. No
- 7:42doubt. They're swinging for the fences, even
- 7:44if the Wi -Fi sometimes throws them a curveball.
- 7:46Huh. Well put. Yeah. Okay, so from wearables
- 7:49trying to augment our reality, let's shift to
- 7:52Meta's efforts in virtual reality. They're launching
- 7:55something called the Horizon TV Hub for Quest
- 7:58headsets. Right. This is Meta basically trying
- 8:01to make the Quest headset your go -to entertainment
- 8:03device, not just for gaming or social VR. So
- 8:07like a central place for movies and TV within
- 8:10VR. Exactly, it's an all -in -one streaming hub.
- 8:13The idea is to bring together all the compatible
- 8:15streaming apps you might use into one interface
- 8:17inside the Quest. Which apps are we talking about?
- 8:20Well, right now you get access to Prime Video,
- 8:22Peacock, Twitch, YouTube, and significantly Disney
- 8:26Plus is coming soon, and that includes Hulu and
- 8:28ESPN content too. Okay, that's a pretty solid
- 8:31lineup, so no more jumping between separate VR
- 8:33apps for each service. That's the goal. Reduce
- 8:36the friction make it feel more like well like
- 8:38changing channels or browsing a unified library
- 8:41It'll have recommendations tabs for movies TV
- 8:44immersive stuff sports music your watch list
- 8:47all integrated Why does this matter for you know
- 8:50regular people is watching TV in VR really that
- 8:54much better? Well Meta's betting it can be. It
- 8:57definitely enhances the entertainment potential
- 8:59of Quest headsets, makes them potentially more
- 9:02appealing as a media device for the whole family
- 9:04or just for you escaping the family. Yeah, I
- 9:08can see that appeal. And strategically, it's
- 9:10a direct shot at competitors like Apple Vision
- 9:12Pro, which is also pushing immersive media, though
- 9:16at a much, much higher price point. Meta's trying
- 9:18to own that mainstream VR entertainment space.
- 9:22It also helps consolidate things, right? Instead
- 9:23of just having a bunch of apps floating around
- 9:25your VR library. Precisely. It makes the Quest
- 9:28feel more like a coherent media platform. Plus,
- 9:30they're leaning into the unique aspects of VR.
- 9:33They've partnered with Universal Pictures and
- 9:35Blumhouse to bring 3D movies. Like horror movies
- 9:37in 3D VR. Yeah, imagine watching something like
- 9:40the Black Phone or M3GN in 3D, completely immersed
- 9:43in your own virtual cinema. That's different
- 9:45experience than watching on your couch with distractions.
- 9:48Okay, yeah, that does sound pretty intense. Especially
- 9:50for horror. Maybe not for me, but I see the appeal.
- 9:54And they're backing it up with good audio tech,
- 9:56too. It supports Dolby Atmos surround sound already,
- 9:59and Dolby Vision HDR support is coming later
- 10:02this year. So, high quality picture and sound
- 10:05in your personal VR theater. It's like creating
- 10:07your own little escape pod for movies. Pretty
- 10:10much total immersion, blocking out the real world.
- 10:13For a lot of people, that's a big draw for media
- 10:15consumption. Are there other updates happening
- 10:17in the Horizon ecosystem that support this? Yeah,
- 10:20a few things. They're updating the underlying
- 10:22Horizon engine for better visuals, faster performance,
- 10:26and the ability to build more complex and larger
- 10:29virtual worlds. So making the whole platform
- 10:31better. Right. And for creators, Horizon Studio
- 10:34is getting an upgrade with an agentic AI assistant,
- 10:39basically, an AI helper that can proactively
- 10:41assist you in building virtual spaces. Think
- 10:44of it like an AI co -designer. And there's also
- 10:47Hyperscape Beta for the newer Quest 3 and 3S
- 10:50headsets. It lets you map your actual room, your
- 10:53physical environment, into a virtual space for
- 10:55mixed reality experiences. So blending virtual
- 10:58elements with your real surroundings. OK. So
- 11:00Meta is really trying to build out a comprehensive
- 11:02VR ecosystem with entertainment as a major pillar
- 11:06now. Definitely looks that way. Positioning Quest
- 11:08not just for games, but as a serious media consumption
- 11:11device. All right. So we've got Meta tackling
- 11:13site and immersive experiences. Let's talk. about
- 11:16sound, specifically communication. Our third
- 11:19story is about Nothing and their new Ear 3 earbuds.
- 11:24Yeah, and this one is different. Nothing is known
- 11:27for its unique design, but the Ear 3 introduces
- 11:29a feature focused squarely on function, maybe
- 11:32even at the expense of looking cool. Intriguing.
- 11:34What is it? It's called the SuperMic system.
- 11:37The earbuds themselves are, you know, earbuds,
- 11:39but the charging case has two extra microphones
- 11:42built into it, activated by a big button labeled
- 11:45Talk. Wait, microphone's on the case, how does
- 11:47that work? The idea is, if you're in a really
- 11:49noisy place and need to make a call or record
- 11:51a voice note, you take the charging case, hold
- 11:54it up close to your mouth, like a, well, like
- 11:57a tiny microphone or walkie talkie. Hold on,
- 11:59you hold the case to your mouth. Yep. You hold
- 12:01the case up to your mouth while the earbuds are
- 12:03in your ears. The case mics then take over, providing
- 12:06much clearer audio pickup with up to 95 decibels
- 12:09of noise cancellation focused just on your voice.
- 12:12Wow. Okay. That is... Definitely a unique approach.
- 12:17I'm picturing myself doing that on a busy street.
- 12:20Might get some weird looks. Right. It's kind
- 12:22of hilariously practical. It directly tackles
- 12:24the common complaint that earbuds sound terrible
- 12:26for calls in loud environments. But yeah, the
- 12:29ergonomics are unconventional. It's like they
- 12:32prioritized pure audio clarity over the sleek,
- 12:36discreet look we usually expect from earbuds.
- 12:39Is it awkward or genius? Maybe a bit of both.
- 12:41For someone who makes a lot of important calls
- 12:43on the go, or maybe a creator who needs quick,
- 12:46clean audio without carrying a separate mic,
- 12:48it could be amazing. For others, maybe less so.
- 12:51And compatibility. Does the SuperMic work with
- 12:54everything? There's the catch. It works for regular
- 12:56phone calls and nothing says most major apps
- 12:59like Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, WhatsApp, WeChat.
- 13:02Also some specific apps like Blackmagic Camera
- 13:05for video recording and iOS voice memos. Buck.
- 13:09But it doesn't work with the default camera apps
- 13:12on iOS or Android or many other third -party
- 13:15recording app. So you get this potentially great
- 13:18feature, but you have to remember which apps
- 13:19actually support it. That sounds like a potential
- 13:22headache. A bit fragmented. It is. Classic hardware
- 13:25innovation bumping up against software integration
- 13:27challenges. Still, the core concept solving bad
- 13:30call quality is smart. Okay, so beyond the super
- 13:34mic gimmick. Yeah. or feature. What else is new
- 13:36with the year three? Are the earbuds themselves
- 13:38upgraded? Yes, definitely. They stick with the
- 13:40semi -transparent, nothing design, black or white
- 13:42options, but they've added metal parts to the
- 13:45buds and case for better durability and maybe
- 13:47antenna performance. The bottom half of the case
- 13:49uses recycled aluminum now. Nice touch. How's
- 13:52sound quality? They've upgraded the drivers to
- 13:5512mm from 11mm in the Ear 2. They support spatial
- 13:59audio and L -DIC for high -res wireless audio,
- 14:02which is great for music quality. There's also
- 14:04a personalized EQ feature based on an in -app
- 14:06hearing test. They apparently tweaked the sound
- 14:09profile a bit, more emphasis on the low end this
- 14:11time. Bass boost. Okay, what about battery and
- 14:14noise cancelling on the buds themselves? Battery
- 14:17life is slightly improved, 5 .5 hours with ANC
- 14:20on up from 5 .2. Total with the case is around
- 14:2422 hours of playback from the buds themselves,
- 14:26but the case holds about 36 hours of additional
- 14:29charge. It has a 500 mAh battery, supports wireless
- 14:32charging, and fast -wired charging 10 minutes
- 14:34gets you 10 hours of playback. That fast charging
- 14:37is handy. And the ANC? Also improved. It's adaptive
- 14:40ANC, now up to 45 dB of noise reduction compared
- 14:44to 40 dB on the Ear 2. So they should block out
- 14:46more background noise when you're listening.
- 14:48Connectivity. Bluetooth 5 .4. You'll need Android
- 14:506 .0 or iOS 13 or newer. And the price. You mentioned
- 14:53it earlier, I think. $179, which is the $30 increase
- 14:56from the Ear 2. OK, so a decent set of upgrades
- 14:59overall, plus this very unique super mic feature.
- 15:02but with a price bump and some compatibility
- 15:05quirks. It's certainly a conversation starter.
- 15:08For sure. It shows companies are still trying
- 15:10creative, even slightly weird, solutions to fundamental
- 15:13problems like clear communication. Makes you
- 15:16think about what you actually prioritize in your
- 15:18tech. Absolutely. OK, before we wrap things up,
- 15:20just one more quick thank you to our other sponsor
- 15:22today, Skony. Great golf shoes. Premium golf

- 15:44Alright, so let's quickly recap what we covered
- 15:46today. We kicked off with Meta Connect 2025,
- 15:49saw some really ambitious smart glasses like
- 15:51the Ray -Ban display and Oakley Vanguard, but
- 15:54also saw those memorable live demo glitches.
- 15:57Right. A good reminder that cutting -edge tech
- 15:59still needs real -world reliability, especially
- 16:01solid connectivity. Then we talked about Meta
- 16:04doubling down on VR entertainment with the Horizon
- 16:07TV Hub request, trying to create that all -in
- 16:10-one streaming experience. complete with 3D movies.
- 16:14Making VR potentially more of a mainstream media
- 16:16device, a personal entertainment bubble. And
- 16:18finally, Nothing's Ear 3 earbuds taking a very
- 16:21unique swing at solving poor call quality with
- 16:24that super mic system built into the charging
- 16:27case. Yeah, a really novel, if slightly awkward
- 16:30looking approach. to a common frustration. So
- 16:32these stories really highlight that constant
- 16:35push -pull, don't they? Innovation, pushing boundaries,
- 16:38and how we see, hear, and interact. The bumping
- 16:40up against the practical realities of implementation,
- 16:44connectivity, and maybe even social norms, like
- 16:46holding a case to your face. Exactly. It leaves
- 16:49you wondering, as this tech gets woven deeper
- 16:51into our lives, are we going to become more tolerant
- 16:54of its little quirks? Or will the pressure be
- 16:57on the tech to become absolutely seamless and
- 16:59invisible? That is a great question to chew on.
- 17:02Something to think about until we connect again
- 17:04next time. We're here to help at Snarful, so
