- 0:00Welcome to Connecting the Dots, everyone.
- 0:01We are the team at Snarfle Solution Group
- 0:03who breaks down the top tech news of the day.
- 0:05It's all about making sure you understand
- 0:07what's happening in the tech world,
- 0:09you know, like what it means for you,
- 0:10whether you're a big tech person
- 0:12or just trying to, you know, stay in the loop.
- 0:14Exactly.
- 0:15So today is March 7th, 2025,
- 0:18and wow, the tech world is really buzzing today.
- 0:21Yeah, for sure.
- 0:21A lot going on.
- 0:22We've got news about AI, like big developments there.
- 0:26Cryptocurrency, well, that's always making ways, right?
- 0:29And even some interesting tech stuff
- 0:32happening in an industry, I bet you know pretty well.
- 0:34Ooh, keep me in suspense.
- 0:36Yeah.
- 0:37Okay, well, let's jump right in.
- 0:38First up, Microsoft's kind of shaking things up
- 0:40in the world of AI, right?
- 0:42Yeah, they're going beyond just using AI.
- 0:44Now they're building their own models.
- 0:45Really?
- 0:46Yeah, they're calling them MAI.
- 0:48And here's the kicker.
- 0:49They're thinking about replacing, you know,
- 0:51the open AI tech in their co-pilot product
- 0:54with this new stuff.
- 0:56Oh, wow.
- 0:57That's interesting, because they have a huge partnership
- 1:00with open AI.
- 1:02What does this mean for like the average person
- 1:05who uses co-pilot?
- 1:06Well, you can think of it like this.
- 1:08When you've got competition in the AI market,
- 1:11that can be a really good thing.
- 1:13You might get better features, prices might go down.
- 1:16I like the sound of that.
- 1:17And even, you know, maybe we'll see some completely new
- 1:20AI applications, stuff we haven't even thought of yet.
- 1:23It's like deciding between Coke and Pepsi.
- 1:25The more choices, the better.
- 1:27Right, exactly.
- 1:28And remember, co-pilot, it's designed to help people code.
- 1:31So if you're a developer or even just learning,
- 1:34this could be a game changer.
- 1:36Absolutely.
- 1:37OK, next up, we have a story about investors.
- 1:40And they're, well, they're kind of shifting their focus.
- 1:42They're moving away from LLMs
- 1:45towards something called AI wrappers.
- 1:47I got to say, that sounds like something straight out
- 1:49of a sci-fi movie.
- 1:50I know, right?
- 1:51Sounds futuristic, but it's happening right now.
- 1:53Wow.
- 1:54So these AI wrappers, they're basically startups
- 1:57that are taking those large language models, the LLMs,
- 2:00we hear about all the time.
- 2:01And using them to make tools for specific professions.
- 2:06So instead of having like one general AI that
- 2:08does a bit of everything, we're going to have AI specifically
- 2:11for doctors, lawyers, coders, everything.
- 2:13You got it.
- 2:14And venture capitalists are putting a lot of money
- 2:17into these AI wrappers.
- 2:18What's really interesting is this shows
- 2:20that we're moving towards making AI more practical,
- 2:23more focused on specific things.
- 2:25So how does this apply to our listener out there?
- 2:28Yeah.
- 2:28They might be thinking, I'm not a doctor or a lawyer.
- 2:31How does this affect me?
- 2:32That's a great question.
- 2:34Think about what you do every day at work, whatever it is.
- 2:37These AI tools, they could help you automate those boring tasks,
- 2:41give you expert advice.
- 2:42So it's like having an assistant.
- 2:43Yeah, kind of.
- 2:44And in the end, it could make you way more efficient,
- 2:47better at what you do.
- 2:49So AI isn't about replacing jobs.
- 2:51It's about changing how we work.
- 2:52Exactly.
- 2:53It's like AI is giving us superpowers,
- 2:55not taking over completely.
- 2:56I like that.
- 2:57OK, now for a story that's been everywhere.
- 2:59The Trump-Tom P. Meme Coin.
- 3:01Oh, yeah.
- 3:02This one's got people talking.
- 3:03That's for sure.
- 3:04This meme coin, well, it's connected to former President
- 3:07Trump, and it raised a massive $314 million
- 3:10from token sales.
- 3:11And don't forget about the fees.
- 3:13Oh, right.
- 3:14Yeah.
- 3:14A cool $36 million in fees, all in just three weeks.
- 3:18It's incredible how much money is moving around there.
- 3:20It is.
- 3:21And it really shows how volatile the cryptocurrency market is.
- 3:24Oh, yeah.
- 3:25I mean, on one hand, you can make a ton of money.
- 3:27But on the other, it's super risky.
- 3:29Definitely.
- 3:30And this story, it kind of makes you
- 3:32think about conflicts of interest,
- 3:33with a political figure involved and all.
- 3:35Yeah, that's true.
- 3:36So for our listener, this is a story
- 3:38about how things in the financial tech world
- 3:41can really affect their wallets.
- 3:43Yeah, it's smart to stay informed,
- 3:46know the risks and the potential rewards,
- 3:48especially with crypto, because it's so unpredictable.
- 3:51OK, moving on from mean coins, we've
- 3:53got some news from the world of semiconductors.
- 3:55TSMC, the biggest contract chip maker in the world,
- 3:59just announced a massive, like $165 billion investment
- 4:05to make more chips in the US.
- 4:06Wow, that's a lot of money.
- 4:08And it's not just one factory.
- 4:09They're building three new fabrication plants.
- 4:12Wow.
- 4:13Two advanced packaging facilities, even an R&D center,
- 4:17all in Phoenix, Arizona.
- 4:19That's huge.
- 4:20But what does it mean for the everyday person?
- 4:22Someone who just wants to buy a new phone or laptop?
- 4:25Well, remember the global chip shortage?
- 4:27This could really help with that.
- 4:29Oh, yeah.
- 4:29We might see more chips available, maybe even
- 4:32lower prices for electronics.
- 4:34So this is a story to keep an eye on,
- 4:35because it could change how much we pay for our gadgets.
- 4:38For sure.
- 4:39Plus, it's a sign that we might be moving towards making
- 4:41more things locally, which could have a big impact
- 4:44on the economy in the long run.
- 4:45Makes sense.
- 4:46Yeah.
- 4:47OK, our last story takes us to a place
- 4:50you might not expect to see, cutting edge technology,
- 4:53McDonald's.
- 4:54Yeah, it's not the first place you think of, right?
- 4:57But they're doing some cool things
- 4:58to make their restaurants run better.
- 5:00They're using edge computing and computer vision.
- 5:03OK, hold on.
- 5:04For those of us who aren't tech experts,
- 5:05could you explain what those are?
- 5:06Sure.
- 5:07Imagine your local McDonald's knows
- 5:09when a fryer is about to break down,
- 5:11like before it actually happens.
- 5:13Really?
- 5:13That's edge computing in action.
- 5:15So no more waiting forever for fries,
- 5:17because the fryer's out of commission.
- 5:18Exactly.
- 5:19Less downtime, cheaper maintenance,
- 5:21and it's better for everyone, customers, and employees.
- 5:24I like it.
- 5:25But what about this computer vision thing?
- 5:27Are they using robots to make the burgers now?
- 5:30Not robots, but they are using smart cameras
- 5:33to make sure orders are right.
- 5:34Oh, cool.
- 5:35Like another set of eyes checking everything
- 5:37before you get your food.
- 5:39So less mistakes, less waste, and everyone
- 5:42gets what they ordered.
- 5:43Sounds like a win-win.
- 5:44It is.
- 5:45And for the average person, it means a quicker and more
- 5:48accurate McDonald's experience.
- 5:50All right, so we've talked about AI, crypto, chips,
- 5:53and even fast food.
- 5:55What are some key things you think
- 5:56our listeners should remember from all this?
- 5:59Well, the tech world is always changing, that's for sure.
- 6:01We see big companies like Microsoft doing big things in AI
- 6:04and startups are finding really creative ways to use it too.
- 6:07Right.
- 6:08And we can't forget about the cryptocurrency market.
- 6:10It's like a roller coaster, as we saw with that Trumpy and meme
- 6:13coin story.
- 6:15Yeah.
- 6:15But like any investment, you got to be careful, know the risks.
- 6:19Absolutely.
- 6:19And then we have industries like fast food,
- 6:22using high tech stuff like edge computing and computer vision
- 6:26to improve how they do things.
- 6:28It's really interesting to follow all this tech stuff,
- 6:30isn't it?
- 6:30Oh, definitely.
- 6:31And it's clear that all this isn't just
- 6:32happening in Silicon Valley.
- 6:34It's changing every part of our lives,
- 6:35from how we work to how we relax,
- 6:38even how we get our burgers.
- 6:39That's a really good point.
- 6:40Technology is everywhere now.
- 6:42It's not just for the tech industry anymore.
- 6:44And that brings up a big question.
- 6:45How do we keep up?
- 6:47What skills do we need to do well in this world that's
- 6:50constantly changing because of technology?
- 6:53That is the million dollar question.
- 6:55And we are going to get into that in the next part of our deep dive.
- 6:57Stay tuned.
- 6:58So we've seen how tech's changing a lot of things,
- 7:01like how we write code, even how we get a burger.
- 7:04Yeah.
- 7:04But let's go back to that question from before,
- 7:06like how do we stay ahead of all this?
- 7:09What do we need to know to do well in this new world?
- 7:12That's the big question, right?
- 7:14It's a lot to keep up with.
- 7:16Tech's always changing so fast.
- 7:18It is.
- 7:18But I don't think you have to become like a tech genius
- 7:20overnight.
- 7:21Right.
- 7:21It's more about being ready to adapt and learn new things.
- 7:26So it's not about knowing every single line of code,
- 7:29but more about understanding how things are changing.
- 7:32Exactly.
- 7:33And one really important skill is critical thinking.
- 7:36We're hit with so much information every day.
- 7:38Being able to filter through it all,
- 7:40figure out what's biased and what's not,
- 7:42that's super valuable.
- 7:43Like having a special filter for your brain, right?
- 7:45Right.
- 7:45With all the information overload and everything.
- 7:48That's it.
- 7:48And then there's creativity.
- 7:49We talked about AI making content.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:51But real creativity, the kind that comes from people,
- 7:53that's still really important.
- 7:55So brainstorming, coming up with new ideas,
- 7:57that's not going away.
- 7:59Absolutely.
- 7:59I think those skills will become even more important
- 8:02as AI takes over the more routine stuff.
- 8:04Hmm.
- 8:05Makes sense.
- 8:06What about problem solving?
- 8:08Can't AI do that for us?
- 8:09AI can definitely help us solve problems.
- 8:12Yeah.
- 8:12But it's still people who decide what the problems are,
- 8:15you know, seeing the bigger picture,
- 8:17coming up with solutions.
- 8:18Right.
- 8:19Especially when something unexpected happens.
- 8:21Because, let's be honest, tech isn't perfect.
- 8:25Sometimes the fryer does break, the app crashes,
- 8:28the AI gives you a crazy answer.
- 8:30It happens.
- 8:31And that's when we need people who can think quickly,
- 8:34figure things out.
- 8:35Adapt.
- 8:35Yeah.
- 8:36Exactly.
- 8:37Those skills will be really valuable.
- 8:39So it sounds like we need a mix of things.
- 8:40Yeah.
- 8:40Technical skills, but also those human skills,
- 8:43like thinking creatively and solving problems.
- 8:45You got it.
- 8:46And we can't forget communication
- 8:48as tech gets more complicated.
- 8:50Being able to explain it clearly,
- 8:52whether you're talking to tech people or not,
- 8:54that's super important.
- 8:55So it's not just about writing code,
- 8:57it's about writing reports, giving presentations,
- 9:00even helping your grandma figure out her new smart TV.
- 9:03Exactly.
- 9:04You've got to be able to bridge that gap between the tech
- 9:06world and the everyday world.
- 9:08OK, I'm feeling a little better about all this.
- 9:10It's not just about robots replacing us.
- 9:12There's still a place for people.
- 9:13For sure.
- 9:14The people who will do well are the ones who keep learning,
- 9:17who are curious and can adapt.
- 9:19Now that you mentioned doing well,
- 9:21let's talk about some of the good ways tech's being used.
- 9:24We've seen AI helping coders and even fast food places.
- 9:28What about, like, health care?
- 9:30Oh, health care is a really exciting area for AI.
- 9:33Yeah.
- 9:34Imagine AI helping doctors diagnose diseases earlier,
- 9:38making treatment plans just for you,
- 9:40maybe even finding new curers.
- 9:42Like in those medical shows where the computer figures
- 9:44everything out?
- 9:45It might sound like that, but it's getting closer to reality.
- 9:48Wow.
- 9:49We're already seeing AI being used
- 9:51to look at medical images, predict
- 9:53what will happen to patients, even help with surgeries.
- 9:56So AI isn't replacing doctors.
- 9:58It's giving them better tools.
- 10:00That's the idea.
- 10:01Yeah.
- 10:01And for the everyday person, this
- 10:03could mean catching diseases earlier,
- 10:05getting better treatments.
- 10:06That's great.
- 10:06Yeah, and maybe even living longer, healthier lives.
- 10:09Definitely something to be hopeful about.
- 10:11What about sustainability?
- 10:13With climate change and all, can tech help there?
- 10:15For sure.
- 10:16Renewable energy and sustainable tech,
- 10:18that's one of the most exciting things
- 10:19happening right now.
- 10:20Solar power, wind energy, electric cars, even smart grids
- 10:25that help us use energy better.
- 10:26So it's not just about those fancy electric cars,
- 10:29only rich people can afford.
- 10:30Right.
- 10:30It's about making clean energy affordable and accessible
- 10:34for everyone.
- 10:35That's the goal.
- 10:36And as this tech gets better, we
- 10:38could really reduce pollution and fight climate change.
- 10:42So it sounds like there's a lot to be excited about,
- 10:44but also some big challenges.
- 10:46That's always true with technology.
- 10:48Yeah.
- 10:48There are two sides to it.
- 10:49We have to think about the bad things that could happen,
- 10:52the ethics, the unintended consequences.
- 10:54Right.
- 10:55But we also have to see the amazing things it can do,
- 10:57like making our lives better, solving problems,
- 11:00creating a better future.
- 11:01And it all comes back to what we were saying before
- 11:03about the human element.
- 11:05Right.
- 11:05We have to make sure we're using tech the right way for good
- 11:09and that everyone benefits.
- 11:10Absolutely.
- 11:11And with that in mind, I think it's
- 11:13time for another question.
- 11:14OK, great.
- 11:15This one goes from John in Chicago.
- 11:17He asks, with all this talk about AI taking over jobs,
- 11:20I'm worried about what will happen.
- 11:22What can I do to make sure I don't get left behind?
- 11:25John, that's a question a lot of people have these days.
- 11:27It is.
- 11:28And while I can't promise anything, I can say this.
- 11:31The best thing you can do is to keep
- 11:33learning throughout your life.
- 11:35So it's not about choosing the right career now,
- 11:38but about always being ready to learn something new.
- 11:41Exactly.
- 11:41Focus on those human skills we talked about.
- 11:44Critical thinking, being creative, solving problems,
- 11:47communicating well.
- 11:48Right.
- 11:49And don't be afraid to try new things.
- 11:51Learn about new tech.
- 11:52Embrace the changes that are coming.
- 11:55So being OK with things changing,
- 11:57that's going to be important in the future.
- 11:58I think so.
- 11:59The world is changing faster than ever.
- 12:01And the only way to keep up is to change with it.
- 12:04Learn as you go.
- 12:05OK, we covered a lot in this part.
- 12:06From what skills we need for the future
- 12:08to how tech can have a positive impact on health care
- 12:11and sustainability.
- 12:12That's been a good discussion.
- 12:13It has.
- 12:14But before we finish, I want to touch on one more thing
- 12:16that I think will be a big deal very soon.
- 12:19Augmented reality.
- 12:20AR, like those filters people use on social media?
- 12:23Yeah, like that.
- 12:24But AR can be so much more.
- 12:27Oh, yeah.
- 12:27Imagine walking down the street, and your AR glasses
- 12:30are giving you directions, showing you interesting places,
- 12:33maybe even reviews of that restaurant you're passing.
- 12:36Like a super GPS that works with the real world.
- 12:39Exactly.
- 12:40But it goes beyond just directions.
- 12:42Imagine using AR to try on clothes online before you buy them,
- 12:46or getting repair instructions right
- 12:48on top of your broken appliance.
- 12:50So you don't have to read those confusing manuals.
- 12:52Exactly.
- 12:53And think about how cool it would be for education.
- 12:56Students could see ancient Rome right in their classroom,
- 12:59or dissect a frog without, well, the mess.
- 13:02It would be amazing.
- 13:03So this isn't sci-fi anymore.
- 13:04This is tech that's about to be everywhere.
- 13:06It is.
- 13:07And with companies like Apple and Google
- 13:08putting so much money into AR, it'll
- 13:11be as common as smartphones pretty soon.
- 13:12Wow.
- 13:13Makes you wonder what things will be like in a few years.
- 13:16I know.
- 13:16It's exciting and a little scary at the same time.
- 13:19It is.
- 13:19But like we've been saying, the important thing
- 13:21is to stay informed, stay curious, and be ready to adapt.
- 13:26That's good advice.
- 13:27And speaking of staying informed, that's all for this part.
- 13:30But don't worry, we'll be back soon to talk about even more cool
- 13:33tech stuff and answer more of your questions.
- 13:37Stick around.
- 13:38We are back for the last part of our deep dive
- 13:41into today's top tech news.
- 13:43We saved some really interesting stuff for last.
- 13:46We've been talking about how technology is changing the world,
- 13:48but what about us?
- 13:49Like, how is tech changing the way we think and learn,
- 13:53even how we talk to each other?
- 13:55That's a really big question and one
- 13:57I've been thinking about a lot lately.
- 13:58It's like we're always connected, plugged into our devices,
- 14:02just bombarded with information.
- 14:04Yeah, that's true.
- 14:04It's like we live in this age of digital overload.
- 14:07And that makes you think about our attention spans,
- 14:09what it's doing to our brains, even our mental health.
- 14:12Right, it sounds like our brains are being rewired
- 14:14by all these notifications and social media news alerts.
- 14:18There's a term for that.
- 14:19Digital cognitive overload.
- 14:21Researchers are really looking into that.
- 14:22Wow.
- 14:24So is this the end of deep thinking?
- 14:26Are we all going to turn into distracted zombies
- 14:29just glued to our screens?
- 14:31I don't think it's that bad, but it's
- 14:32good to be aware of what all this digital stuff might
- 14:35be doing to us.
- 14:36OK, so what can we do about it?
- 14:37Should we all throw away our smartphones
- 14:40and go live in a cabin in the woods?
- 14:42Well, you could, but for most of us,
- 14:44that's not really an option.
- 14:45It's more about finding a balance,
- 14:48setting some limits with tech and using it
- 14:50in a way that works for us.
- 14:51So like putting the phone down during dinner,
- 14:54taking breaks from social media,
- 14:56maybe reading a book sometimes.
- 14:57Exactly.
- 14:57It's about taking back control of our attention
- 14:59and making sure tech is helping us, not the other way around.
- 15:03OK, so we talked about some of the downsides.
- 15:05But are there any good ways that tech is changing
- 15:08how we think and learn?
- 15:09Oh, for sure.
- 15:10One thing that's really interesting is personalized learning.
- 15:13You know, with AI and machine learning,
- 15:15we can create ways of learning that
- 15:17fit each person, like their own needs and how they learn best.
- 15:21So no more classrooms where everyone's learning the same
- 15:23thing at the same pace.
- 15:24Yeah, exactly.
- 15:25I'm at an every student having their own learning plan,
- 15:28going at their own speed, and learning in a way
- 15:31that makes sense to them.
- 15:32That would be amazing.
- 15:34And that's just for kids, right?
- 15:35This could be great for adults, too.
- 15:37You're totally right.
- 15:38Like if you want to learn a new language or a new skill
- 15:41or just keep up with things in your job,
- 15:44personalized learning can make it easier and more effective
- 15:47for everyone.
- 15:48So even though tech might be changing our brains in some ways,
