- 1:47Speaker 2: Please welcome to the Money Making Conversation Masterclass. Donald Lamar,
- 1:51Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 1:51Speaker 1: Donald?
- 1:52Speaker 4: Hey Rushan Man, how you doing?
- 1:54Speaker 3: Man?
- 1:54Speaker 4: Glad to be here and thank you for the invitation.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Well, the invitation was there because you know something that
- 2:00Speaker 2: I need to be telling the general public. Tell us
- 2:02Speaker 2: a little background about you before we getting into the questions.
- 2:05Speaker 4: All right, no problem. Actually born in Texas, Man. I
- 2:09Speaker 4: was born up in Emerald, Texas, where it wasn't that
- 2:11Speaker 4: many African American you know people there, But I had
- 2:15Speaker 4: the opportunity to learn a little bit about my African
- 2:19Speaker 4: American community in Houston. So I went to Prairie View
- 2:23Speaker 4: and in university down in the Swagen got a chance
- 2:26Speaker 4: to get my engineering degree and start investigating what this
- 2:30Speaker 4: whole world has to offer as far as entrepreneurial experiences
- 2:34Speaker 4: is concerned. So I traveled out to California. I was
- 2:38Speaker 4: able to work for McDonald Douglas Aircraft company out there
- 2:41Speaker 4: to do some simulations and code writing, code development, and
- 2:46Speaker 4: you know, just kind of learning to get into my
- 2:48Speaker 4: passion for what I wanted to do with my life,
- 2:51Speaker 4: and eventually wound up back in Texas again working for
- 2:55Speaker 4: General Dynamics, another aerospace company that's really putting that bug
- 2:59Speaker 4: on me to get up and going. But finally I
- 3:02Speaker 4: did go ahead and start my own business with a
- 3:04Speaker 4: gentleman of mine out in Augusta, Georgia, and got into
- 3:07Speaker 4: federal government contracting. Just started developing my passion from that point,
- 3:13Speaker 4: helping businesses grow in scale, eventually landing a role where
- 3:18Speaker 4: I am today over here at Morehouse College helping businesses
- 3:20Speaker 4: do the same. So it's been a whirlwind, but man,
- 3:23Speaker 4: I have been blessed well.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Thank you. First of all, I am from Houston, Texas
- 3:28Speaker 2: and so born and raise, so preview and m right
- 3:30Speaker 2: down the road. I'm very familiar with the Panthers and
- 3:33Speaker 2: the Baby Dome down there. So congratulations on graduating for
- 3:37Speaker 2: that fantastic HBCU as you are working with at Morehouse,
- 3:41Speaker 2: which is another HBCU. Now, he was talking about that passion,
- 3:44Speaker 2: and we always hear that a lot of passion gifts
- 3:47Speaker 2: all these days. What is your passion? Donald Man?
- 3:51Speaker 4: My passion, to be honest with you, is to live
- 3:54Speaker 4: in my life the best way I can every day.
- 3:56Speaker 4: But most importantly is this impacting these people with the
- 4:01Speaker 4: gifts that I have been given, which is and they're
- 4:04Speaker 4: sharing with these businesses what they need to do to
- 4:07Speaker 4: kind of scale and learn how to change. I want
- 4:10Speaker 4: to say, the atmosphere based based on the wealth that
- 4:14Speaker 4: they're creating, and so there's no better way to do
- 4:16Speaker 4: it other than trying to show people how to gain
- 4:19Speaker 4: and attain wealth through entrepreneurship. So that's my passion in
- 4:23Speaker 4: a nutshell.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Well, thank you. One of the things I the reason
- 4:26Speaker 2: I invite you on the show because you do combine
- 4:28Speaker 2: passion with information and government contracts. You hear them all
- 4:31Speaker 2: the time they're out there. You hear about these big deals.
- 4:35Speaker 2: What is the truth if I might say that the
- 4:38Speaker 2: truth and the information that people need to understand on
- 4:42Speaker 2: getting or being in line for an opportunity to get
- 4:46Speaker 2: government contracts.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Well, man, I listen, I actually be honest with you,
- 4:51Speaker 4: and I'll share a little bit more about you know,
- 4:54Speaker 4: some things that are happening here on the more House
- 4:56Speaker 4: campus that are directly tied in the federal government contracting.
- 5:00Speaker 4: But one of the things you have to know that
- 5:02Speaker 4: you can't believe a lot of the myths and unrealities
- 5:05Speaker 4: about federal government contracting. Is like on your aline to say,
- 5:08Speaker 4: you've got to do your work. And if you do
- 5:11Speaker 4: your work, meaning the research that's needed to understand how
- 5:14Speaker 4: you can be more accessible to the federal government, then
- 5:17Speaker 4: you know that is going to be a big plus
- 5:19Speaker 4: and get yourself in a position where you understand the
- 5:22Speaker 4: strategy that's needed in order to be successful in winning.
- 5:26Speaker 4: And there's several strategies that a lot of people just
- 5:28Speaker 4: don't know or tend not to gravitate too in terms
- 5:32Speaker 4: of their ability to perform in an industry like that.
- 5:35Speaker 4: But education on the systems and the processes and how
- 5:39Speaker 4: the federal government spends its money you know where they're
- 5:42Speaker 4: targeting the money. How you can align your relationship building
- 5:46Speaker 4: practices with the right people will yield a lot of
- 5:49Speaker 4: results if you just do that homework for that knowledge
- 5:52Speaker 4: is power, That understanding and that strategy is paramount to
- 5:56Speaker 4: success in government contracting.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 2: The reason I'll bring that up because there's a lot
- 5:59Speaker 2: of people out there, or you pay a feed, they
- 6:02Speaker 2: send you contracts or supposedly contracts. They are available for bids.
- 6:07Speaker 2: They'll tell you how much money that's available in the
- 6:11Speaker 2: government contracts. They'll lead you down the line with those
- 6:14Speaker 2: carriage stick opportunities. But again, if you don't have your
- 6:18Speaker 2: company presented correctly, you know, registering for SAM, register for
- 6:23Speaker 2: all these things that you need to do because these
- 6:26Speaker 2: are the things that are asked for in order for
- 6:28Speaker 2: you to qualify for these different government contracts. And that's
- 6:32Speaker 2: where I see so many people missing the boat, Donald,
- 6:36Speaker 2: is that they really think it's like they just like
- 6:39Speaker 2: one application they fell out. An application is done when
- 6:42Speaker 2: you know, like you said, it's attention to detail. You
- 6:45Speaker 2: have to feel out all these different documents and you
- 6:48Speaker 2: have to be annually participating in these processes of maintaining
- 6:53Speaker 2: their certification of these documents, which means that you can't
- 6:56Speaker 2: walk away once you did it one time.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Correct, absolutely, man, And I'm gonna drop a few little
- 7:03Speaker 4: gems on you right now with the with the audience
- 7:05Speaker 4: to listen audience, and if you really are student of
- 7:08Speaker 4: government contracting, you know, write these these things down because
- 7:11Speaker 4: this is gonna be very helpful on the research side,
- 7:14Speaker 4: and it kind of bolts very well in what you're
- 7:16Speaker 4: saying about being prepared and understanding the links and the
- 7:20Speaker 4: term and the determination and the effort you need to
- 7:23Speaker 4: put into it. But things and go into sites like this,
- 7:27Speaker 4: and I'll give you some of these acronyms so that
- 7:30Speaker 4: your listeners will see ft d S dot gov. That's
- 7:35Speaker 4: a site you can go to to get contract information
- 7:38Speaker 4: that's very valuable. You can get that information US spending
- 7:41Speaker 4: dot gov where you go and get federal spending information
- 7:45Speaker 4: on how the federal government actually purchases this products and services.
- 7:49Speaker 4: The Dynamic Small Business Search Web gives you the ability
- 7:54Speaker 4: to identify small business that you can partner with. SBI,
- 7:58Speaker 4: I mean SBA sub dot net is a prime contractor
- 8:01Speaker 4: registration because they have to sub to a lot of
- 8:03Speaker 4: these businesses. And of course we all know, Sam, and
- 8:06Speaker 4: I cannot go without saying, you need to understand the
- 8:11Speaker 4: far which is the federal acquisition regulations. And last, but
- 8:15Speaker 4: not least, is understanding how and when they're going to
- 8:19Speaker 4: buy in a forecast way. Go over to acquisitions dot gov.
- 8:23Speaker 4: So just in that last twenty to fifteen seconds, man,
- 8:27Speaker 4: you know there's enough information for you do the proper
- 8:29Speaker 4: research so that you don't have to spend five thousand
- 8:33Speaker 4: dollars with someone who's going to charge you to do
- 8:35Speaker 4: something you can do for yourself.
- 8:37Speaker 2: That's exactly why he's on the show, Ladies and gentlemen,
- 8:41Speaker 2: because I'm not saying what they're doing is scams. What
- 8:43Speaker 2: I'm saying is that but it's a process. You got
- 8:46Speaker 2: to do your homework, you got to do your research,
- 8:48Speaker 2: and it's a never ending game of understanding certification, attending
- 8:53Speaker 2: different seminars that are made available that are free, but
- 8:57Speaker 2: you got to be able to understand that the relationships
- 9:01Speaker 2: if you know somebody in the business, not trying to
- 9:05Speaker 2: get their knowledge, but understanding how they're doing it. And
- 9:08Speaker 2: that's how I met Donald. I went to a seminar
- 9:11Speaker 2: and on a zoom call, he blew me away. And
- 9:15Speaker 2: I'm a person that my show is money Making Compensations Masterclass,
- 9:19Speaker 2: and he allowed me to see Rashan. You know a lot,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but you don't know a lot, and that's important why
- 9:27Speaker 2: you're on the show today. Donald, and I want this
- 9:30Speaker 2: to not be a one time thing because the information
- 9:32Speaker 2: that you're dropping just in that small segment before I
- 9:35Speaker 2: started talking is incredible. So tell us what is your
- 9:39Speaker 2: current role with Morehouse College?
- 9:43Speaker 4: Well, currently right now with more House College. Man, I
- 9:45Speaker 4: absolutely have to be kind of a two face role
- 9:48Speaker 4: because if you don't know anything about the Small Business
- 9:50Speaker 4: Development Center really, which is really a grand funded by
- 9:53Speaker 4: SBA and in in the state of Georgia. Usually every
- 9:56Speaker 4: state may have an s BUTDC, but we have a
- 9:59Speaker 4: very robust one here in the State of Georgia. And
- 10:02Speaker 4: so I act as the area director for the Small
- 10:06Speaker 4: Business Development Center here on the campus of Morehouse College,
- 10:09Speaker 4: which in itself is almost like treating three other campuses.
- 10:12Speaker 4: And you know this, Rashwan, because Spelman is across the street,
- 10:15Speaker 4: Clark is down the street, Morris Brown is around the corner,
- 10:18Speaker 4: and all the other ecosystems that are available. But I
- 10:21Speaker 4: act as the area director for SBC and the Director
- 10:25Speaker 4: of Entrepreneurial Services at Morehouse College, where I'm able to
- 10:29Speaker 4: kind of support a lot of the programs that they
- 10:32Speaker 4: have here that are based on the entrepreneurial side of
- 10:35Speaker 4: the scale. So when I say that, in my EC
- 10:39Speaker 4: which really is the Morehouse Innovation Entrepreneurial Center, is housed
- 10:44Speaker 4: within the Business School here at Morehouse College, So I
- 10:47Speaker 4: kind of direct the pathway on the business facing side
- 10:50Speaker 4: and kind of assist on the student facing side.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Which is important. Now you're the word used a lot
- 10:55Speaker 2: scaling a scale, Yes, what exactly is that?
- 11:01Speaker 4: Well? Scaling in our case, you have to look at
- 11:03Speaker 4: how how are you going to show impact with the
- 11:06Speaker 4: people that you touched, And there's many ways that we
- 11:09Speaker 4: measure that, and a few of the ones we do
- 11:11Speaker 4: it a SBC is kind of based on are you
- 11:14Speaker 4: scaling because you're employing more people? In other words, are
- 11:18Speaker 4: they W two employees? Not necessarily independent contractors, but are
- 11:22Speaker 4: you adding W two employees you know to your business?
- 11:26Speaker 4: And you can measure that obviously by the number that
- 11:29Speaker 4: you happen to increase. On the same with what about loans?
- 11:33Speaker 4: Are we able to get loans that you can be
- 11:36Speaker 4: qualified for and used to kind of scale your business
- 11:38Speaker 4: because you know how difficult it is for any African
- 11:41Speaker 4: American business to get a loan, let alone be able
- 11:44Speaker 4: to work with one. Right, So scaling means helping you
- 11:47Speaker 4: to get access to capital so that you can scale,
- 11:50Speaker 4: mean that you can grow and then you know, finally,
- 11:54Speaker 4: the way I look at it is are you actively
- 11:57Speaker 4: involved economically in this state? Since I focus on the
- 12:01Speaker 4: state of Georgia, Then scaling means that are are you
- 12:04Speaker 4: putting together products and services that it is helping even
- 12:08Speaker 4: the other businesses expand as you are expanding. So you know,
- 12:12Speaker 4: scaling has some multiple definitions. But I'm telling you right
- 12:14Speaker 4: now or you got to come strong, and.
- 12:18Speaker 2: These coming strong today with information and enthusiasm. That is
- 12:22Speaker 2: why you know, like I said, you know in this game,
- 12:25Speaker 2: you can never assume you know it all. If you
- 12:28Speaker 2: assume you know it all, that's when the mistakes are
- 12:30Speaker 2: gonna come. And on this show, I'm asking questions that
- 12:34Speaker 2: even though I may have a sense of what the
- 12:36Speaker 2: answer is, I'm thoroughly being educated. And that's why I
- 12:39Speaker 2: have to ask you about scaling because you know, a
- 12:41Speaker 2: lot of things become like like cool statements to say
- 12:45Speaker 2: when people are talking about brand need. People talk about
- 12:48Speaker 2: that a lot. You know, scaling is that popular term
- 12:51Speaker 2: that people use in small business development. If you don't
- 12:54Speaker 2: know what you're doing with it, then also it could
- 12:56Speaker 2: leave you down the street that doesn't get you to
- 12:59Speaker 2: the path of the success story you want to make. Now,
- 13:01Speaker 2: we all have journeys. Donald as an entrepreneur, you talked about,
- 13:06Speaker 2: you know, going. You started in a small town in Texas,
- 13:09Speaker 2: then went to Prayer youw then went to California, and
- 13:11Speaker 2: then he came back to Texas. Now, what is your
- 13:14Speaker 2: entrepreneurial journey and how you overcame obstacles in your pathway?
- 13:19Speaker 4: Boy? You boy, you mess around, pulled up the wrong thing.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Because I'm I'm gonna answer this a two quick quos.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I mean, people gonna understand what I'm saying about. I'm
- 13:29Speaker 4: very spiritual guy, but I'm gonna tell you right now,
- 13:32Speaker 4: I overcame obstacles and continue to do this every day
- 13:35Speaker 4: based on what I saw and what I call this
- 13:37Speaker 4: concept of explosive favor. So I'm gonnall, I'm gonna tell
- 13:41Speaker 4: you what I mean that real quickly. Sitting in church
- 13:43Speaker 4: one day, my pastor had this serious cause explosive favor.
- 13:46Speaker 4: And so we we kind of know what favor means,
- 13:49Speaker 4: but we don't ever review it in the context of
- 13:52Speaker 4: a business. Really and so really explosive favor, if you
- 13:55Speaker 4: look at it in the definition, is you know, God
- 13:57Speaker 4: raising up someone with real sources to give them to
- 14:01Speaker 4: you to carry out your vision. Right, and so that's
- 14:05Speaker 4: explosive favor. So what that means is to set yourself up.
- 14:09Speaker 4: You've got to plow that field. You got to put
- 14:11Speaker 4: yourself in the position to receive explosive favor. So you
- 14:14Speaker 4: got to be networking so people understand what your vision
- 14:18Speaker 4: is and they can pick it up and run with it.
- 14:20Speaker 4: That explosive favor. So when I am faced with obstacles
- 14:23Speaker 4: that have been in my way, man, I'm always lining
- 14:26Speaker 4: up in networking because somebody else is going to take
- 14:28Speaker 4: care of that problem for me. Somebody is going to
- 14:30Speaker 4: overcome that obstacle for me. It's not going to be
- 14:33Speaker 4: on my back. That's one thing. The other thing I'm
- 14:36Speaker 4: telling you right now, how I overcame obstacle was based
- 14:40Speaker 4: on execution and the pursuit of knowledge. It's just not knowledge.
- 14:44Speaker 4: You got to execute what you learn. If you understand
- 14:48Speaker 4: exactly what it's all about. Boy, you can throw the
- 14:50Speaker 4: execution in that. I always tell people all the time
- 14:53Speaker 4: when I come up with them and I say, listen,
- 14:55Speaker 4: you can have dedication, you get to have you can
- 14:58Speaker 4: have understanding, you could have all of those things. But
- 15:00Speaker 4: if you don't have knowledge and you can't ascute what
- 15:03Speaker 4: you learned, oh man, you got a let's sad face
- 15:06Speaker 4: on you and you got all the potential in the
- 15:08Speaker 4: world and can't make it happen.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Wow. We're speaking to Donald Lamar. His mission is to
- 15:13Speaker 2: drive impact and sustainable resources to small businesses, entrepreneurs and
- 15:18Speaker 2: business owners, one business at a time. When we come
- 15:21Speaker 2: back speaking with Donald, we're going to talk about and
- 15:23Speaker 2: find out about a small business entertainment Summit. Don't go nowhere.
- 15:27Speaker 2: You listen to Rushan McDonald and the show is Money
- 15:30Speaker 2: Making Conversation Masterclass.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Please don't go anywhere. We'll be right back with more
- 15:36Speaker 3: Money Making Conversations Masterclass. Welcome back to the Money Making
- 15:46Speaker 3: Conversations Masterclass hosted by Rushaan McDonald.
- 15:51Speaker 2: My show is based on the HBCU campus Clark Atlanta University.
- 15:57Speaker 2: I'm speaking to Donald Lamar. He's at more, which I
- 16:00Speaker 2: means I can just walk right across the street and
- 16:02Speaker 2: have a cup of coffee with him. His titles his
- 16:05Speaker 2: too Entrepreneurial, Entrepreneurial Service Services Director and Small Business Center
- 16:11Speaker 2: Area Director. But more importantly, he's going to bring something
- 16:15Speaker 2: that's never been done on an HBCU campus small business
- 16:20Speaker 2: entertainment summit. What did that idea come from and why
- 16:23Speaker 2: do you feel as important? Donald?
- 16:27Speaker 4: Well, this is why it is important. Man. A lot
- 16:29Speaker 4: of people might not really understand what I'm trying to
- 16:32Speaker 4: accomplish here. And I'll talk about the other summit later
- 16:35Speaker 4: because it is directly related to federal government contractor, but
- 16:38Speaker 4: this one is going to be unique for me, and
- 16:40Speaker 4: I'm really looking for the success of this one down
- 16:43Speaker 4: here in Atlanta, you know as well as I know that.
- 16:46Speaker 4: You know, you think about the landscape here and you
- 16:49Speaker 4: see that the film and TV and the sports and
- 16:51Speaker 4: the music, all that stuff is happening right in our backyard.
- 16:55Speaker 4: But a lot of that stuff, you know, is being
- 16:57Speaker 4: managed in other areas of the country when it all
- 17:01Speaker 4: is here. And so my idea is not to so
- 17:05Speaker 4: much spend time based on the creative side, but how
- 17:08Speaker 4: do we actually equip our small businesses that support the
- 17:13Speaker 4: entertainment industry. So my focus is going to be about
- 17:16Speaker 4: how can I get these businesses in such a light
- 17:20Speaker 4: where they're educated with systems and where they're educated with
- 17:24Speaker 4: the processes and they understand whether procurement opportunities so that
- 17:27Speaker 4: you're every day Let's just take for example, the Famine
- 17:30Speaker 4: TV that may be supported by people who are building sets, electricians, restaurants.
- 17:36Speaker 4: How do we get them information so they are booked
- 17:40Speaker 4: and busy, right, And that's the name of this entertainment summing.
- 17:43Speaker 4: So what we want you to learn is how to
- 17:44Speaker 4: connect with procurement opportunities and entertainment sector, how to protect
- 17:48Speaker 4: maybe your intellectual property and navigate advances in AI. What
- 17:52Speaker 4: are some of the best practices for marketing your business
- 17:55Speaker 4: to industry leaders in this space? And I want you
- 17:58Speaker 4: all to walk away with the actionable plans to enhance
- 18:01Speaker 4: your business operations and achieved sustainable success in this field.
- 18:06Speaker 4: So that's kind of what that small business is the
- 18:08Speaker 4: same as Summit.
- 18:08Speaker 2: It's all about, well, we know it's important that to say
- 18:11Speaker 2: that like I'm from Houston, and Houston again is trying
- 18:13Speaker 2: to do the same thing. Not from a summer standpoint,
- 18:15Speaker 2: but build out there their entertainment branch. You know, North Carolina.
- 18:20Speaker 2: You know, we all know that Los Angeles, Chicago, New York,
- 18:24Speaker 2: those areas are dominated production companies. But you know, it
- 18:27Speaker 2: used to be you know, people shotting their ladies shot
- 18:30Speaker 2: in New York. Now people shooting all over the country
- 18:32Speaker 2: because of tax incentives allow them to produce shows. And
- 18:36Speaker 2: now the state of Charge has really become one of
- 18:39Speaker 2: the great hubs for entertainment production. But when you think
- 18:43Speaker 2: about your role, and it's a can lead to frustration.
- 18:47Speaker 2: And I want you to tell my audience because you
- 18:50Speaker 2: out there, I can hear the passion in your voyage. Donald.
- 18:53Speaker 2: What frustrates use the most about entrepreneurs and small business owners.
- 18:58Speaker 4: What first makes me the most is that they don't
- 19:01Speaker 4: have and make preparation and they don't even believe in
- 19:05Speaker 4: themselves enough to be able to speak. And I used
- 19:08Speaker 4: to sit across and I sit across, you know, on
- 19:10Speaker 4: an annual basis, some one hundred and fifty fifty companies personally,
- 19:14Speaker 4: you know that as a part of what my day
- 19:17Speaker 4: to day is. And sometimes I want their business more
- 19:21Speaker 4: than they want their business, and I try to explain
- 19:24Speaker 4: to them I can't want your business more than you
- 19:26Speaker 4: want your business. So you got to adjust your attitude
- 19:30Speaker 4: right there, and then you got to just make the
- 19:32Speaker 4: decision that I'm going to seek the knowledge, the information
- 19:36Speaker 4: and take the time to get this thing done. It
- 19:39Speaker 4: goes back to that old nursery rhyme. What you know,
- 19:42Speaker 4: the tortoise in the hair. If you just keep the
- 19:45Speaker 4: process going, man, you can finish first place. You just
- 19:48Speaker 4: got a roll.
- 19:50Speaker 2: What do you I called that?
- 19:51Speaker 4: Like?
- 19:51Speaker 2: You know, I'm a drive. My wife always say you
- 19:53Speaker 2: don't ever speed, And I was till people calls or
- 19:56Speaker 2: pass me up and get your red light. I'm right
- 19:58Speaker 2: behind them. That's the tortoise and hair he's talking about.
- 20:02Speaker 2: There are people out there just flying down the freeway,
- 20:05Speaker 2: but basically they burning more gas, they're more stressful, and
- 20:10Speaker 2: guess what, they're in dangering other people because other people
- 20:13Speaker 2: worry about how they're driving. And so I always tell people,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I wake up so when I get behind the wheel
- 20:20Speaker 2: of my car, I actually know why I'm getting behind
- 20:22Speaker 2: the wheel of my car. A lot of people don't
- 20:23Speaker 2: know that. They just think they may be going to work.
- 20:25Speaker 2: But I know why I'm going to work. I know
- 20:28Speaker 2: what I'm gonna do when I arrive at work, I
- 20:30Speaker 2: know what I'm gonna have it. Luck, all these things
- 20:32Speaker 2: are thought out, and that's all he's saying. I'm that hair,
- 20:36Speaker 2: you know, I'm that tortoise. Excuse me. I'm just plowing
- 20:40Speaker 2: through the whole process. I'm not in a hurry. But
- 20:43Speaker 2: when I get to the finish line, I've completed all
- 20:46Speaker 2: my tasks. And that is what we're talking about. People
- 20:49Speaker 2: who want to skip line and skip relationships and don't
- 20:56Speaker 2: want to cross the t's adopt the eyes. Am I
- 20:59Speaker 2: right down?
- 21:00Speaker 4: Man? You're absolutely right man, because there is no shortcut. Now,
- 21:05Speaker 4: you might be able to get to something quicker than
- 21:07Speaker 4: someone else, but let's see how long it's sustainable. And
- 21:10Speaker 4: those are the kind of things that you need to
- 21:12Speaker 4: take in consideration. You need to think strategy and not tactically.
- 21:16Speaker 4: You know, tactical means that you're fighting the little small
- 21:18Speaker 4: battles that you are are going to need to have
- 21:22Speaker 4: to address. But if you start looking at things from
- 21:24Speaker 4: a strategic way, then you talk about longevity, you talk
- 21:27Speaker 4: about wealth building, you talking about the next generation. It's
- 21:31Speaker 4: definitely a strategic thought process that must be employed along
- 21:35Speaker 4: the way. And you might as well get it from
- 21:37Speaker 4: the gate. Now.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Were talking about the Small Business Entertainment Summit, and then
- 21:41Speaker 2: you said something about another summit. Can we discuss that
- 21:45Speaker 2: now that you're referencing Donald.
- 21:48Speaker 4: Absolutely man more. I'm just really excited because my background
- 21:51Speaker 4: is in feral gooment contract and you know, I've had one,
- 21:54Speaker 4: you know, for over twenty eight years, have been through
- 21:56Speaker 4: the eighty eight programs for those people who may be
- 21:58Speaker 4: familiar with that term, and the most of the mental protege,
- 22:01Speaker 4: so I know the art of having to get into
- 22:04Speaker 4: federal government contract. So about two years ago I put
- 22:06Speaker 4: together More Houses Federal Government Contracting Summit a FDSBBC, and
- 22:12Speaker 4: it was a smash success because I broke it down
- 22:15Speaker 4: into what you need to do to get a federal
- 22:18Speaker 4: government contract, whether it be certifications, understanding the methodology behind it,
- 22:22Speaker 4: whether it be on the capture management side, how do
- 22:24Speaker 4: you position your company to win a federal government contract,
- 22:27Speaker 4: how do you execute one? And I brought an expert
- 22:30Speaker 4: even from DC to come in and teach these classes
- 22:33Speaker 4: to show people how to get into federal government contracting
- 22:35Speaker 4: the right way. So it was called at that point.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Last year it was called get the Win, the same
- 22:42Speaker 4: what the conference was called, Get the Win, but I'm
- 22:44Speaker 4: going one step further. So on September thirteenth of this
- 22:48Speaker 4: coming calendar year, I got another one coming called Partner
- 22:53Speaker 4: to Win. Not enough people look at the subcontract opportunity.
- 22:57Speaker 4: It's a simple acquisition strategies that they can use to
- 23:00Speaker 4: get in the federal government. When you can be paying
- 23:02Speaker 4: attention on building joint ventures, you can be paying attention
- 23:06Speaker 4: on building alliances and partnerships. So I'm going to have
- 23:09Speaker 4: Partner to Win on September thirteenth, and I'm going to
- 23:12Speaker 4: lead by example because I'm gonna be partnering with your
- 23:15Speaker 4: folks up there in DC with the Howard It's Small
- 23:19Speaker 4: Business Development Center, who's coming down here to help me
- 23:22Speaker 4: pull this thing off and lead by example and show
- 23:24Speaker 4: people what you need to do from a subcontracting standpoint.
- 23:28Speaker 3: Tom.
- 23:28Speaker 4: You know I'm doing my thing. Boy, I'm just trying
- 23:31Speaker 4: to tell.
- 23:31Speaker 2: You, Hey, hey, Lamar, listen, here's the funny thing. Back
- 23:34Speaker 2: when I met Lamar, I asked him to come on
- 23:36Speaker 2: with the show. He said, what I'm gonna talk about Rachond?
- 23:38Speaker 2: I said, Lamar, you need to stop. You need to
- 23:41Speaker 2: stop we need to hear about you, not only in
- 23:44Speaker 2: a local level, but a national level. Is are there
- 23:47Speaker 2: ways we can reach out to touch you the email
- 23:50Speaker 2: addresses or their social media handles? How can we reach
- 23:53Speaker 2: out and touch you?
- 23:54Speaker 4: Donald Man, I'm really low key, you know, I don't
- 23:57Speaker 4: get into all that social media stuff. But I do
- 24:00Speaker 4: have my LinkedIn so you can definitely catch me on
- 24:03Speaker 4: LinkedIn with love for people to connect because I'm always
- 24:05Speaker 4: having something I like to say. Don't post that often
- 24:08Speaker 4: because I'm about my business here. But you know the
- 24:10Speaker 4: office here. You can reach out to our office or
- 24:14Speaker 4: at least send information that way and I can give
- 24:17Speaker 4: you the information you know related to that. And here's
- 24:21Speaker 4: the contact information you know here at our office. Or
- 24:26Speaker 4: you can go on the site of the Georgia SBDC
- 24:29Speaker 4: dot gov I mean, excuse me, dot org and you
- 24:33Speaker 4: can navigate down to all the offices at SBDC. But
- 24:37Speaker 4: our office has its own page and you can get
- 24:39Speaker 4: to it that way. We do have an office number.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Our general office number is four seven zero six three
- 24:47Speaker 4: nine to six two, and you can reach it by email.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Of course. Our email is more house at Georgia SBDC
- 24:56Speaker 4: dot org. Or you can reach me even at I
- 25:00Speaker 4: email address with we simply Donald dot Lamar at Morehouse
- 25:03Speaker 4: dot e edu.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Cool.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Now, before we go, as we wrap up this interview, Donald,
- 25:08Speaker 2: the wealth gap in our community, Yes, sir, it's it's
- 25:12Speaker 2: screams racial, it's screams gender orient it, it's screams educational deficiencies.
- 25:19Speaker 2: How can we close that? From your perspective? Is it possible?
- 25:24Speaker 4: Man, let me run through my letting me real quick.
- 25:28Speaker 4: I'm I'm gonna be real quick because I know this
- 25:29Speaker 4: is we got a couple of minutes left. You know.
- 25:32Speaker 4: The biggest opticle got out there is access to capital.
- 25:34Speaker 4: So we got to increase access to African Americans. It's just,
- 25:37Speaker 4: you know, this is just deplorable to think about how
- 25:40Speaker 4: we can't access our capital. Other things that we can't
- 25:44Speaker 4: do is through education and training. You know, invest into
- 25:47Speaker 4: programs like I'm doing to kind of get people an
- 25:50Speaker 4: understanding on how they can address so they can grow
- 25:52Speaker 4: these businesses in the federal government arena and and and
- 25:56Speaker 4: and hire people. You know, supplier diversity initiatives you know
- 26:00Speaker 4: that are going on out there with these corporations. You
- 26:02Speaker 4: know we need to check them. Okay, Now you say
- 26:04Speaker 4: you won't supply the verse, but how many black businesses
- 26:07Speaker 4: are you actually doing work with, or any business for
- 26:10Speaker 4: that matter, you know, informing or reforming the policy that
- 26:14Speaker 4: can't keep the structural boundaries in place for inequality. We
- 26:17Speaker 4: need to make sure that we deal with that. We
- 26:19Speaker 4: got to invest in our community, and I'm telling you
- 26:21Speaker 4: right now one of the biggest things we can do
- 26:24Speaker 4: is reach out in this tech and innovation. We got
- 26:26Speaker 4: this AI going on. How are we using this to
- 26:28Speaker 4: our benefit that we can bring some economic relief not
- 26:33Speaker 4: only to our areas, but you know, to build a
- 26:35Speaker 4: wealth for those who have an idea and can really
- 26:38Speaker 4: make that work.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Donald, this is our first time talking. You have a
- 26:43Speaker 2: summit that's coming up first, that's the Small Business Entertainment Summit.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Then you have another summit coming in September. The first
- 26:49Speaker 2: summit is July eleventh. You've invited me to be a
- 26:53Speaker 2: part of that as a panelist and maybe participating a
- 26:56Speaker 2: couple of the sessions. I'm deeply honored that you considering me,
- 27:00Speaker 2: and I'm deeply quick to say I do. I'll be
- 27:05Speaker 2: a part of it. My friend. Again, the information you
- 27:07Speaker 2: dropped on my show today was amazing. Continue to be
- 27:12Speaker 2: who you are. We'll talk soon because the fact that
- 27:15Speaker 2: if you have the time, please know I value you
- 27:19Speaker 2: to come on this show more than every once in
- 27:21Speaker 2: a while because the nuggets you're dropping and that government contracting,
- 27:26Speaker 2: the slowing down, the well gapped through information, and also
- 27:30Speaker 2: I just think people need to be pounded over and
- 27:32Speaker 2: over again with the story or how you can win,
- 27:36Speaker 2: and it's tied to partnerships, relationships and hard work.
- 27:40Speaker 4: Thank you, Donald, I appreciate it. Thank you for the invitation. Man.
- 27:44Speaker 4: I tell you that old and over again.
