- 0:00Today's tech news moves fast, but understanding
- 0:03it shouldn't be hard. That's why Snarfle Solutions
- 0:06Group brings you Connecting the Dots, where we
- 0:09break down what's happening in tech and why it
- 0:11matters to you. Now, let's dive in with your
- 0:14hosts. Before we kick off today's show. We are
- 0:18so thrilled to announce a brand new sponsor to
- 0:21the program. That's right. It's Old Glory, which
- 0:23is this absolutely iconic music and sports fan
- 0:26merch store. If you are looking for, you know,
- 0:29that perfect vintage band tee or some team gear,
- 0:32they really have you covered. And if you use
- 0:34promo code SNARFL at checkout, you can actually
- 0:37get 15 % off your entire purchase. You can find
- 0:40them over oldglory .com. But moving on, welcome
- 0:44to Connecting the Dots. I'm Alex. And I'm Morgan.
- 0:46And we've got a really fascinating show for you
- 0:48today looking at some massive blind spots in
- 0:50global trust. But first, let's get you caught
- 0:53up on what's happening outside your window and
- 0:55in your portfolio. Yeah. So it is Friday, March
- 0:5813th, 2026. And if you're tuning in from our
- 1:01home base here in Sacramento today, you are getting
- 1:03a pretty unusual early season heat wave pushing
- 1:07through the southwest right now. We're looking
- 1:09at mostly sunny skies and a high of 79 degrees.
- 1:12Oh, yeah, it is warm. But meanwhile, the Northeast
- 1:14and Great Lakes are, well, they're still getting
- 1:16battered by heavy snow and high winds. So definitely
- 1:19stay safe out there on the roads. Right. And
- 1:21looking at the financial markets, it is a very
- 1:24green Friday. The Dow Jones closed up 268 .40
- 1:29points, which is a 0 .57 % gain. Nice. Yeah.
- 1:34S &P 500 is up forty three point zero points
- 1:37or zero point six five percent But I mean the
- 1:39real story today is crypto always is right exactly
- 1:42Bitcoin saw a massive jump up two hundred nine
- 1:44hundred and seventy four point five nine points
- 1:46That's a four point two two percent spike bring
- 1:48it to a close at seventy three thousand four
- 1:50hundred and eighty four point five Seven huge
- 1:52moves there, but before we dig into the news
- 1:54We do want to mention another great sponsor of
- 1:56today's edition pins and aces is a premium golf
- 1:58apparel and accessory store That will honestly
- 2:01completely upgrade your game and if you use the
- 2:03promo code code SNARFL at checkout, you get 21
- 2:05% off your entire purchase. Just head over to
- 2:07pinsandaces .com to check them out. All right,
- 2:09let's get into it. Every morning we pull the
- 2:10top three stories from our internal SNARFL Tech
- 2:13article report. The morning star. Right, the
- 2:14morning star. And reading through the stories
- 2:16today, there was a very clear theme that just
- 2:18jumped right out at us. Today's show is really
- 2:19all about trusting the system. Yeah, we're exploring
- 2:22exactly how much trust you put into the technology
- 2:24that just operates in the background of your
- 2:26daily life. I mean, we're talking about trusting
- 2:28artificial intelligence with your actual physical
- 2:31safety on the highway. or trusting massive traditional
- 2:35banks with your digital money. And finally, what
- 2:37happens when global crypto platforms just completely
- 2:40break the world's trust? Right. Let's start with
- 2:43physical safety. Uber just officially partnered
- 2:45with a company called Motional, which is backed
- 2:48by Hyundai, to launch an all -electric, robotaxi
- 2:52service right in the middle of Las Vegas. Yeah,
- 2:55and they're using a fleet of self -driving Hyundai
- 2:57IONI Q5s. And these are not just driving around
- 3:01closed test tracks. No, not at all. If you were
- 3:03in Vegas right now, these vehicles will handle
- 3:06pickups and drop -offs at major spots. We're
- 3:09talking the rideshare zones at Resorts World,
- 3:11the Encore on the Strip, the Westgate, Town Square,
- 3:14and even downtown Las Vegas. And the location
- 3:17here is so crucial to understanding the technology.
- 3:20The Las Vegas Strip is essentially the ultimate
- 3:22boss fight for an autonomous vehicle. Oh, 100%.
- 3:26Just think about what a driver actually faces
- 3:28there. You've got flashing neon lights reflecting
- 3:31off wet pavement, giant digital billboards confusing
- 3:35the sensors, tourists with those yard -long margaritas
- 3:38just stepping right into traffic. Exactly. And
- 3:41cabs cutting across four lanes at once. Hard
- 3:44-coding rules for every single one of those unpredictable
- 3:46scenarios is mathematically impossible Which
- 3:49really explains the massive reset emotional just
- 3:52went through I mean two years ago. They were
- 3:55in real trouble. They really were they were a
- 3:57joint venture between Hyundai and Aptiv and they
- 4:00were falling behind Aptiv actually pulled their
- 4:03funding out completely. Yeah leaving Hyundai
- 4:05holding the bag But Hyundai chose to double down
- 4:08they injected another one billion dollars into
- 4:10the company, but it came with a huge restructuring,
- 4:12right? right they laid off about 40 % of their
- 4:14workforce and Completely pivoted how they were
- 4:17building their tech and they pivoted heavily
- 4:18toward neural networks Exactly instead of engineers
- 4:21writing endless lines of if then code like, you
- 4:24know If a pedestrian steps out then break right
- 4:27which never covers everything exactly. Yeah a
- 4:30neural network learns much more like a human
- 4:33brain It ingests millions of hours of human driving
- 4:36video and essentially builds an intuition. Wow.
- 4:40It learns to recognize the subtle body language
- 4:42of someone who's about to cross the street before
- 4:45they even step off the curb. And emotional CEO
- 4:49Laura Major, she called it a hard decision to
- 4:52pause commercial activities and slow down in
- 4:55the near term just so they could speed up long
- 4:57term. Yeah. And from a user experience, it's
- 4:59pretty interesting. You can't actually go into
- 5:01the Uber app and demand a robot taxi. No, you
- 5:03just enable a setting that says you're open to
- 5:05autonomous vehicle pickups. Yeah. It's honestly
- 5:08like trying to catch a rail Pokemon. Yeah. You
- 5:10just have to hope the algorithm matches you with
- 5:12one. But wait, there is a catch here. They announced
- 5:14that there will still be a human safety driver
- 5:15sitting behind the wheel until the end of 2026.
- 5:18Right. So if there's a guy sitting right there
- 5:20with his hands hovering over the steering wheel,
- 5:23are you really experiencing the autonomous future?
- 5:25Or is this just like a very high tech student
- 5:29driver situation? It definitely feels like a
- 5:32student driver phase for sure. But that human
- 5:35in the loop approach is just the necessary bridge
- 5:38to gather all that real world data those neural
- 5:40networks need to finalize their training. They
- 5:43have to prove to regulators that the AI's intuition
- 5:45is actually safer than a human's. So it's essentially
- 5:48the AI taking its final road test with the proctor
- 5:51in the passenger seat. That is a great way to
- 5:53look at it. And for you, you know, the everyday
- 5:55professional or the family on vacation, this
- 5:58represents the quiet shift of the entire gig
- 6:01economy. Uber isn't just relying on individuals
- 6:04with their personal cars anymore. No, they've
- 6:06spent the last two years signing deals with over
- 6:0925 autonomous companies worldwide. like Wave
- 6:12in Tokyo and Zoox, which is also coming to Vegas
- 6:15later this year. Very soon, instead of hailing
- 6:17a human driver, you'll be trusting fleets managed
- 6:20by tech giants to get your family safely down
- 6:22the strip. So, emotional is trying to build trust
- 6:24in the physical world by keeping a human in the
- 6:27loop for now. But in the digital world, establishing
- 6:30trust is proving to be the exact opposite. Institutions
- 6:34are trying to take the unpredictable human element
- 6:36out entirely. Which brings us to our second story.
- 6:39Hong Kong is making a massive push to become
- 6:42the global digital asset hub. Right. They introduced
- 6:45a stablecoin ordinance last year, and they're
- 6:48expected to issue their very first stablecoin
- 6:50licenses as early as March 24th. But what makes
- 6:52this story so critical is who is getting those
- 6:55licenses. It is not your agile, disruptive crypto
- 6:59startups. No, it's the heavyweights. We are talking
- 7:02about HSBC and Standard Chartered, the Hong Kong
- 7:06Monetary Authority or HKMA. They are prioritizing
- 7:09institutions that are already authorized to issue
- 7:11physical bank notes. They want well -capitalized
- 7:14bank hold issuers to ensure consumer protection
- 7:17and system stability. Standard Chartered even
- 7:20set up a joint venture with Animoca Brands and
- 7:23Hong Kong Telecommunications to participate in
- 7:25a sandbox trial for this. And to understand why
- 7:28this matters, we have to look at the friction
- 7:30in the current system. Oh, it's so slow. It really
- 7:32is. If you want to send money overseas right
- 7:34now using the traditional swift banking system,
- 7:37it can take anywhere from two to five business
- 7:39days. And multiple intermediary banks will take
- 7:41a fee along the way. Exactly. A stable coin,
- 7:45which is a digital cryptocurrency pegged one
- 7:47to one to a real world asset like the Hong Kong
- 7:49dollar, solves that. It settles instantly. Two
- 7:53hundred forty seven for fractions of a penny.
- 7:55OK, I understand the speed of crypto. But why
- 7:59do I need a massive legacy bank to issue the
- 8:02crypto token? That's the big question. I mean,
- 8:05if I bank with HSBC, I already have their app
- 8:08on my phone, I can already send money digitally.
- 8:10What is actually making this different than a
- 8:13standard digital transfer? Well, when you send
- 8:15money on a standard banking app, the money doesn't
- 8:17actually move instantly. The bank just updates
- 8:20a ledger on a screen, but the actual funds settle
- 8:23days later through central clearing houses. A
- 8:26stablecoin moves the actual underlying value
- 8:28instantly across a blockchain. By having HSBC
- 8:31or Standard Chartered issue it, you're getting
- 8:33the frictionless speed of a crypto network with
- 8:35the absolute ironclad legal guarantee of a massive
- 8:38bank fault. So you don't have to worry about
- 8:40the company going bankrupt overnight like we
- 8:41saw with FTX. But having a massive legacy bank
- 8:45issue, a crypto token. kind of feels like playing
- 8:49with digital casino chips, just backed by the
- 8:52actual Federal Reserve. Doesn't bring in the
- 8:55slow traditional banking giants completely defeat
- 8:58the original rebellious purpose of cryptocurrency.
- 9:02I mean, the whole point was to decentralize finance
- 9:04and get away from these exact institutions. Oh,
- 9:07it absolutely defeats the original rebellious
- 9:09ideology. But the reality is mass adoption requires
- 9:13regulated roads. Yeah, that makes sense. The
- 9:15average consumer, the small business owner, the
- 9:17person saving for retirement, they do not want
- 9:19the risk associated with the digital Wild West.
- 9:22They don't want to be their own bank and worry
- 9:23about losing a private key. Exactly. By pegging
- 9:26a digital asset to the Hong Kong dollar through
- 9:28legacy banks, the Wild West is essentially being
- 9:31paved So the goal is to make the underlying blockchain
- 9:34technology completely invisible to the user.
- 9:36That is the ultimate endgame. For the everyday
- 9:39working professional, this means using digital
- 9:41currencies will soon feel as mundane, boring,
- 9:44and safe as swiping your standard debit card
- 9:47at a grocery store. It injects a massive dose
- 9:50of institutional trust into a space that has
- 9:53desperately lacked it. But what happens when
- 9:55that digital Wild West refuses to be paved? When
- 9:58compliance utterly fails and trust is broken
- 10:01on a global scale? That brings us to our final
- 10:04story out of Binance. And it shows exactly why
- 10:07regulators are so terrified of decentralized
- 10:09finance. The implications of this story are staggering.
- 10:13Internal investigators at Binance found that
- 10:15over $1 billion flowed through the exchange to
- 10:18entities linked to Iran. Including the Islamic
- 10:21Revolutionary Guard Corps or IRGC. Yes. And the
- 10:24mechanics of how this money moved are incredibly
- 10:27illuminating. Investigators flagged a VIP account
- 10:29registered to a 79 -year -old Chinese resident.
- 10:32Right. This single elderly man moved $439 million
- 10:36worth of Tether stablecoins on the Tron blockchain.
- 10:39It's just a wild amount of money. And... All
- 10:41of that eventually funneled into a cluster of
- 10:44outside wallets tied to sanctioned Iranian groups.
- 10:46And it wasn't just him. Those same internal investigators
- 10:49found a sort of Chinese nexus. There was another
- 10:53VIP customer, a 38 -year -old Chinese woman,
- 10:56who moved nearly $200 million in tether to the
- 10:59very same network. And here's the detail that
- 11:01just blew my mind. When investigators looked
- 11:04at the device fingerprints and IP logs, the blockchain
- 11:07data showed these two VIP accounts likely accessed
- 11:10Binance from the exact same physical device.
- 11:13A 79 -year -old and a 38 -year -old sharing a
- 11:16single laptop to move over half a billion dollars.
- 11:19It's crazy. And it gets even more tangled. Both
- 11:22of these VIP users were receiving funds from
- 11:24a Hong Kong -based business called Blessed Trust.
- 11:27And Blessed Trust wasn't just some random shell
- 11:29company. They shockingly performed back office
- 11:32tasks like payroll and taxes for Binance itself.
- 11:35Which represents a massive glaring conflict of
- 11:37interest within their own ecosystem. It really
- 11:39does. And we should lay out the political reality
- 11:41and the regulatory backdrop here, just purely
- 11:44looking at the neutral facts of where things
- 11:46currently stand in Washington. Right. So, Binance
- 11:49already agreed to a massive $4 .3 billion plea
- 11:53deal with the U .S. government back in 2023,
- 11:57specifically for failing to establish effective
- 11:59anti -money laundering programs. And then, in
- 12:02October 2025, former Binance CEO Cheng Peng Zhao
- 12:05was pardoned by President Trump. Right. And following
- 12:09that, the White House released a statement citing
- 12:11that there were, quote, no conflicts of interest
- 12:13regarding the pardon. Meanwhile, Senator Richard
- 12:15Blumenthal currently has an ongoing preliminary
- 12:18inquiry demanding more information on Binance's
- 12:21activities. So that is the regulatory weather
- 12:23surrounding this entire platform right now. And
- 12:25amidst all of that scrutiny, it is highly important
- 12:28to note that the internal investigators who originally
- 12:30discovered all of these Iran -linked money flows
- 12:32were fired by Binance. The company claims the
- 12:35departures were due to internal breaches of data
- 12:38protection and confidentiality guidelines. They
- 12:40stated they do not fire employees for raising
- 12:43compliance concerns. Let's look at the tech side
- 12:45of this evasion, because there's a really fascinating
- 12:48detail about two suspected Iranian nationals
- 12:52using Binance to facilitate this. Yeah, one had
- 12:55an ID from Dominica, but was listed in a 2020
- 12:58UN report regarding a gold and cash smuggling
- 13:01network. And the other had an Iraqi ID. And they
- 13:05weren't sending millions of dollars in stable
- 13:07coins. They were sending around $100 each. to
- 13:10this Iranian wallet cluster in a cryptocurrency
- 13:13called TRX. This is where understanding the mechanics
- 13:16of the blockchain is vital. TRX is the native
- 13:19currency of the Tron blockchain. When you want
- 13:21to send a stablecoin like Tether over the Tron
- 13:24network, you have to pay a small transaction
- 13:26fee to the computers processing the math. OK.
- 13:29And you pay that fee in TRX. It's like paying
- 13:31for the gas in a getaway car. The credit card
- 13:33receipt at the pump doesn't show who drove the
- 13:35car or what was stolen, but it definitely shows
- 13:37who funded the trip. Exactly. And because the
- 13:40blockchain is a public ledger, every single one
- 13:42of those $100 gas fee payments is permanently
- 13:45recorded and visible to investigators. Which
- 13:47proves that on the blockchain, small $100 transactions
- 13:51to cover operational fees are just as telling
- 13:54as half a billion dollar stablecoin transfers.
- 13:57The breadcrumbs are always there if you know
- 13:59how to look for them. But wait a second though.
- 14:01Binance has an entire best -in -class compliance
- 14:04program. They employ 600 people whose only job
- 14:07is to watch for this stuff. They just suffered
- 14:10a $4 .3 billion wake -up call in 2023. How does
- 14:14a single elderly man moving half a billion dollars
- 14:17to a known Iranian cluster not instantly lock
- 14:20the account and freeze the system? Is the financial
- 14:24network just processing too much volume to monitor,
- 14:26or are they actively choosing to look the other
- 14:28way? That is the million dollar question compliance
- 14:31experts are asking right now. Amanda Wick, a
- 14:34former federal prosecutor, went on record saying
- 14:36this isn't just a red flag, it is an immediate
- 14:38escalation trigger in any standard financial
- 14:41institution. If a traditional bank saw half a
- 14:43billion dollars moving from a shared laptop to
- 14:45a high -risk jurisdiction, alarms would go off
- 14:48instantly. It really exposes the double -edged
- 14:51sword of decentralized finance. For businesses
- 14:54and everyday investors listening to this, it
- 14:56is a stark reminder of the geopolitical risks
- 14:59deeply embedded in these new financial rails.
- 15:03The very same technology that was designed to
- 15:05democratize money, remove the middlemen, and
- 15:08make cross -border payments frictionless for
- 15:10a family sending remittances home can just as
- 15:13easily be weaponized to bypass global security
- 15:15sanctions. It reveals a massive blind spot in
- 15:18how we govern global platforms that operate outside
- 15:22traditional borders. It really makes you reconsider
- 15:24how bulletproof these digital walls actually
- 15:27are when push comes to shove. Before we wrap
- 15:30things up today, we have one more thing to share.
- 15:33Scony is a premium golf shoe store that is also
- 15:35sponsoring today's show. And if you want footwear
- 15:37that looks great in the office but performs perfectly
- 15:40on the course, you really have to check them
- 15:41out. Use promo code SNARFL at checkout for 15
- 15:44% off your entire purchase. The website is sconauti
- 15:47.com. So, bringing it all together, look at the
- 15:50journey we took today. We looked at the physical
- 15:52frontier in Las Vegas, where we are slowly learning
- 15:54to trust neural networks to drive us around in
- 15:56robotaxis, provided there is still a human safety
- 15:59net. We looked at the regulatory frontier in
- 16:01Hong Kong, where we are trusting giant legacy
- 16:04banks to pave over the Wild West and issue our
- 16:07digital stablecoins. And finally, we looked at
- 16:10the dangerous frontier of compliance failures
- 16:12at Binance, where global trust was shattered
- 16:15by staggering blind spots in shared laptops.
- 16:18Every single one of these stories boils down
- 16:20to how much trust you put in the constantly evolving
- 16:23systems built around you. Whether it's the software
- 16:26steering your car, the bank holding your digital
- 16:28assets, or the crypto exchanges processing global
- 16:31wealth, the human element is still the weakest
- 16:34and most critical link. And that leaves us with
- 16:36one final thought for you to ponder as you go
- 16:39about your day. If a few lines of code and a
- 16:41shared laptop can quietly move a billion dollars
- 16:44across heavily sanctioned borders, without triggering
- 16:47an alarm, are we building a global financial
- 16:49system that has become too fast and too complex
- 16:52for humans to actually police? We're here to
- 16:54help at Snarful, so reach out on our website
- 16:57if you have any more questions. That's a wrap
- 17:02on today's top stories. Remember, tech doesn't
