- 2:26Speaker 1: her professional career working in education and nonprofits education and nonprofits.
- 2:31Speaker 1: When she started trading stocks nine years ago, she initially
- 2:35Speaker 1: saw this as an opportunity to simply supplement her income
- 2:38Speaker 1: elected world supplement her income. However, she was so successful
- 2:42Speaker 1: with with this side hustle I love by to start
- 2:45Speaker 1: non profit and then it became supplemental income. Then it
- 2:49Speaker 1: became a side hustle. Then in twenty seven team she
- 2:52Speaker 1: decided to queer her job so well beyond the south
- 2:55Speaker 1: hustle now travel the world and begin trading stock full time. Investing.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Invest With Terry provides education and coaching on how to
- 3:03Speaker 1: invest in the stock market. Please work with the Money
- 3:05Speaker 1: Making Conversation Terry, e G. Thank you so much. First
- 3:12Speaker 1: of all, I just got to go back to that intro,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you know, education to know our profit. Then it became,
- 3:18Speaker 1: you know, just a simple way to supplement my income.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Then it became a side hustle, and then you decided
- 3:24Speaker 1: just to quit. Okay, walk us through all those steps,
- 3:27Speaker 1: because that's a journey that allows us to talk about
- 3:31Speaker 1: what you're doing today with invest with Terry, it was
- 3:35Speaker 1: it was a journey, and you know what I would say,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I think it was actually a mindset journey because I
- 3:41Speaker 1: learned about investing in high school and I learned about
- 3:44Speaker 1: it like the year that Google I p o. So
- 3:47Speaker 1: if you can just imagine me learning about stocks and
- 3:50Speaker 1: then Google ipo it eighty three dollars and what it
- 3:53Speaker 1: would have done for me if I had invested back then.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But nobody in my family knew anything about stock, so
- 3:59Speaker 1: we yeah, I knew it was a good thing, but
- 4:01Speaker 1: I didn't know how to do it. And so going
- 4:04Speaker 1: into college, I went to M I T. And studied
- 4:07Speaker 1: on Wall Street because I'm still interested in what is
- 4:09Speaker 1: the called stock thing? So you just blew past in
- 4:14Speaker 1: my tea like that, you know, or junior college I
- 4:17Speaker 1: went to in my tea. Okay, now that's what you're
- 4:20Speaker 1: not gonna do with my show, Terry, it's come on
- 4:22Speaker 1: my show and act like I can't hear success. I
- 4:25Speaker 1: can't hear significant things when they're said to me. You
- 4:28Speaker 1: keep talking, but I'm gonna interrupt you if you say
- 4:30Speaker 1: anything else like that and not slow down. You know
- 4:33Speaker 1: you're supposed to. Went and I went to M I T.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Thank you. Yes I'm kind of smart, but yes. So
- 4:49Speaker 1: I went to M I T. And they kind of
- 4:51Speaker 1: funneled us into two paths. You neither go to Wall
- 4:53Speaker 1: Street or you do consulting, because you know, they think, okay,
- 4:56Speaker 1: use that mind to problem solved. And so I went
- 4:59Speaker 1: to Wall Street and again I was expelled to this
- 5:03Speaker 1: whole world of investing. But this is the mindset part
- 5:07Speaker 1: in my mind because where I had grown up, like
- 5:09Speaker 1: I didn't grow up with money. I had always associated
- 5:13Speaker 1: people on Wall Street with like, you know, arrogantness. Um,
- 5:18Speaker 1: they're just not good this, this is not a good industry.
- 5:21Speaker 1: So even though I had this great opportunity, I was like, no,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna go into consulting.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And then one of my clients with education. So I
- 5:30Speaker 1: went into this whole education route because I felt like, well,
- 5:34Speaker 1: that's where the heroes are. That what I had seen.
- 5:37Speaker 1: The heroes are in education, the heroes are in ministry.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And so I think a lot of our communities, like
- 5:43Speaker 1: we have that mindset. There's like this a version to
- 5:46Speaker 1: big money, but money or not realizing that a lot
- 5:52Speaker 1: of people are living successful lives doing this, you know,
- 5:56Speaker 1: because we we we see the we see, you know,
- 5:59Speaker 1: with a warm buff for the Bill Gates and all
- 6:01Speaker 1: these people out there. They are our new celebrities now
- 6:05Speaker 1: where previously with just athletes and just entertainers, but now
- 6:08Speaker 1: the tech world has created this whole world of just
- 6:11Speaker 1: celebrities in the stock world. And so to me, it
- 6:15Speaker 1: always felt like it was like they were there, but
- 6:18Speaker 1: it seems like they were ghosts. They were unattainable because
- 6:21Speaker 1: of the knowledge, you feel me because of the fact
- 6:24Speaker 1: that that's how that's how we deny ourselves on a
- 6:27Speaker 1: lot of opportunities because we feel I can't do that,
- 6:29Speaker 1: that's not me. I can't live in that neighborhood, or
- 6:31Speaker 1: I never live in that neighborhood, or I'll never be
- 6:33Speaker 1: associated with those type of people. And that's what you
- 6:35Speaker 1: were saying earlier, were talking about the mindset. Yes, yes,
- 6:40Speaker 1: and I don't and we do that so much even
- 6:42Speaker 1: when I think, so I have a school now, um,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and I know we're fast forwarding, jumping, but jump back.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You jump past the quick to your job. You jumped
- 6:51Speaker 1: past the side hustle, you jump you jumped past to
- 6:54Speaker 1: travel the world. I don't know. Are you trying to
- 6:56Speaker 1: take all my interview? You know? Uh? I need I
- 7:00Speaker 1: need to be here. Let's go back to the side. Okay,
- 7:05Speaker 1: so we'll go to Yes, Okay, we have so much
- 7:08Speaker 1: I want to tell you. Oh but so Yes. What
- 7:12Speaker 1: happened was I had this knowledge from Wall Street, but
- 7:15Speaker 1: I went into education around for about ten years. But
- 7:18Speaker 1: because I still knew how to invest, I started using
- 7:21Speaker 1: it as a side hustle to supplement my income. And
- 7:24Speaker 1: the big thing for me was I didn't need a
- 7:27Speaker 1: lot because as an educator, my salary wasn't that big.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So for me to even replace my whole salary was
- 7:34Speaker 1: just three hundred dollars a day. So yeah, So when
- 7:38Speaker 1: I decided that I'm actually gonna I'm not happy here, like,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I got really stressed out. I wasn't having a good
- 7:44Speaker 1: time to my job, and I needed an extra strategy.
- 7:46Speaker 1: When I decided that you know what, I need to leave.
- 7:49Speaker 1: It was really just okay, what is my freedom number? Well,
- 7:52Speaker 1: my freedom numbers just three hundred dollars a day. If
- 7:54Speaker 1: I could just make three hundred dollars a day, I'll
- 7:56Speaker 1: be good. And I started learning how to do that
- 7:59Speaker 1: with stocks and I worked myself up. At first, it
- 8:02Speaker 1: was okay, let me just be positive. Then it was okay,
- 8:05Speaker 1: let me make a hundred dollars a day, two hundred
- 8:07Speaker 1: and then when I started hitting that three hundred dollars,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I'm out of here. You started
- 8:12Speaker 1: walking a little different, Like I went, y'all want to
- 8:15Speaker 1: say something crazy to me today? Because I can leave? Hey, Terry, Terry,
- 8:21Speaker 1: how's that? How's that? How's that? Walking a little different?
- 8:24Speaker 1: Look if the people noticed you were walking different in
- 8:26Speaker 1: the break room with different sets of food and everything
- 8:31Speaker 1: we did, and you thought, what's crazy is? I think
- 8:33Speaker 1: my bosses could tell that I was walking different. I
- 8:36Speaker 1: even had a meeting one time and it was like
- 8:38Speaker 1: four of my bosses. I don't know why I had
- 8:40Speaker 1: so many bosses in education, but it was. It was crazy.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And they even asked me in a meeting, like are
- 8:46Speaker 1: you thinking about leaving and like the whole like their
- 8:49Speaker 1: holds a mean towards me chained. All of a sudden,
- 8:52Speaker 1: they started trying to like hold me down. Crazy how
- 8:56Speaker 1: people will not uplift you when they see you can
- 8:59Speaker 1: do better, you know, but they'll tell you but they're
- 9:02Speaker 1: cool with you as long as they feel that you
- 9:04Speaker 1: they're equal. But when they see you in a position
- 9:07Speaker 1: to do better, then they want to hold you back
- 9:10Speaker 1: or contradict you, a question your motives as to why
- 9:14Speaker 1: you're still at this job, and going to start damping
- 9:17Speaker 1: your start, you know, start damaging your reputation. It's really
- 9:20Speaker 1: sad what people will do. I remember when I quit IBM,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I thought I was the greatest employee ever at IBM.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I really did. I thought. I thought when I left,
- 9:28Speaker 1: IBM was shut down. I thought I was that great.
- 9:32Speaker 1: When I told my supervisor that I was resigning to
- 9:35Speaker 1: go tell do stand up comedy, he said, wait right here.
- 9:40Speaker 1: He when he got security, he when he got scary,
- 9:44Speaker 1: walked me out. Don't go. Don't go near your desk.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Don't go near your desk. We'll we'll send you your stuff.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Because that's how life is. That's why I tell people,
- 9:54Speaker 1: follow your dreams follow you because what you may think
- 9:58Speaker 1: there is and there's nothing negative. All companies do that.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I do that to my company. You gotta protect your secrets.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You You just can't have an employee who doesn't have
- 10:05Speaker 1: respect for what you're doing. Just walk around the office
- 10:08Speaker 1: and just start picking up stuff, because they might pick
- 10:10Speaker 1: up the wrong thing. It might take a take something
- 10:13Speaker 1: with you that you probably need to have to bring
- 10:14Speaker 1: them back in and ask for it. So so I
- 10:17Speaker 1: know exactly what you were talking about. And when I
- 10:19Speaker 1: tell that story, it's just a story I gotta tell
- 10:22Speaker 1: to everybody to know that. You know your value can
- 10:25Speaker 1: be perceived based on what they need from you. That's anybody, yea.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And so you start doing better now these four people
- 10:34Speaker 1: standing that you're talking about m M yep. And I
- 10:38Speaker 1: wanted to actually go take an invest in class like
- 10:41Speaker 1: it during while I was assistant principle. I'm still doing
- 10:44Speaker 1: my job like They couldn't even deny that yet. You're
- 10:47Speaker 1: meeting all the objectives on your resume. But when I
- 10:50Speaker 1: asked them, can I just take off a few days
- 10:52Speaker 1: to go take this investing class? Do you know? One
- 10:54Speaker 1: of the bosses came to my office and he said, look, Terry,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I just need to let you know if you go
- 10:59Speaker 1: and take that class, they will fire you. And I
- 11:02Speaker 1: was like, what because you would think like being able
- 11:05Speaker 1: to advance that problem solving, that's being able to make
- 11:07Speaker 1: quick decisions like these are skill set that I could
- 11:10Speaker 1: be helping my company, but it's building the skill sets.
- 11:13Speaker 1: But no, they were threatened by it, right, which was
- 11:17Speaker 1: really really sad, right because of the fact that you
- 11:21Speaker 1: were engaging in an opportunity that they couldn't participate in.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And what were saying is, believe me, they're good people
- 11:28Speaker 1: that she's talking about, but they're just caught up in
- 11:30Speaker 1: their their dreams. You can't let their dreams become your dreams.
- 11:34Speaker 1: And that's what was happening in your life. You are
- 11:36Speaker 1: you had a mindset that you know you couldn't do
- 11:39Speaker 1: the Wall Street theme, so you settled back. But you
- 11:42Speaker 1: always above them. You are always above them, Terry. And
- 11:45Speaker 1: a lot of people don't understand that that you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: you can walk a lifestyle, but it cannot be your
- 11:51Speaker 1: lifestyle if you're not committed. And after that, but that's
- 11:54Speaker 1: what started to happen. You know you're going you know
- 11:56Speaker 1: somebody could do better. And then when people start seeing
- 11:58Speaker 1: you do better, they start in your commitment. Yes, yes,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'm about to say. Then that's when we had to
- 12:08Speaker 1: exit right there. That's when we started traveling the world,
- 12:11Speaker 1: beginning full time investment, and Terry becomes an education and
- 12:15Speaker 1: coaching on how to invest in the stock markets. I'm
- 12:18Speaker 1: fast forward you now. I'm moving your forward now because
- 12:21Speaker 1: we got the reality of what I needed. The people
- 12:24Speaker 1: on my shoulder here is that you gotta change your mindset.
- 12:28Speaker 1: You gotta believe in yourself. And when you start believing yourself,
- 12:31Speaker 1: people will question you or challenge your motivation for change
- 12:35Speaker 1: personal change. You gotta look past that those challenges and
- 12:40Speaker 1: stick with your plan. And then she went, you know something,
- 12:43Speaker 1: I'm making three hundred dollars a day. That's what I
- 12:45Speaker 1: make here walking around with these four people staring at
- 12:47Speaker 1: me every day. I'm just gonna take my little, my
- 12:50Speaker 1: little three hundred plus because she she's a little bit
- 12:52Speaker 1: above the three hundred days, because she hugging as long
- 12:55Speaker 1: as she could. Just what I did. I told jokes
- 12:58Speaker 1: as long as I could I be. Then I relize,
- 13:00Speaker 1: you know something, I can't do this no more. I
- 13:03Speaker 1: gotta go little my dreams. So where did you go
- 13:05Speaker 1: first when you start traveling the world, Terry, So I'll
- 13:09Speaker 1: quit and then onto South Korea. Then I went to Timeline,
- 13:14Speaker 1: then Vietnam, and I stayed in all these places like
- 13:16Speaker 1: a month at a time, just living my best fight.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, this is wonderful. So so Terry, tell
- 13:25Speaker 1: us what you're involved in right now. So now I have,
- 13:29Speaker 1: of course that teaches people how to trade, and our
- 13:32Speaker 1: goal is to help when thousand people to make a
- 13:34Speaker 1: thousand dollars in a day. So we call it the
- 13:36Speaker 1: million dollars a Day campaign because we're just thinking, if
- 13:40Speaker 1: we teach a thousand people to make a thousand dollars
- 13:42Speaker 1: in a day, that's a million dollars a day, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: then that's in our communities. Like what kind of impact
- 13:48Speaker 1: could we have if we're generating a million dollars a day?
- 13:50Speaker 1: Like we could change so many things, from the school
- 13:54Speaker 1: system to healthcare to mental health, Like so many things
- 13:57Speaker 1: could be impacted by us learning how to generate our
- 14:00Speaker 1: own income. So that's what we're doing right now in
- 14:02Speaker 1: our trade and travel programs. Okay, when you say the
- 14:05Speaker 1: word US, I'm just talking to you. Who is us?
- 14:09Speaker 1: Well me, but I think of all the people that like,
- 14:12Speaker 1: all of my students as my family. So I'm thinking
- 14:16Speaker 1: us like we have or we have over eleven hundred
- 14:20Speaker 1: students down and they're they're everywhere. They're doctor's, lawyer's principle.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And so I'm teaching them how to make a thousand
- 14:28Speaker 1: dollars in a day, and they're doing it like they
- 14:30Speaker 1: are killing the game. Like even right now with the
- 14:33Speaker 1: market following, they're making money. Like literally they're sending me
- 14:37Speaker 1: texting us to do even today. That's like Harry, in
- 14:40Speaker 1: the first thirty minutes of the market, I made my
- 14:41Speaker 1: two thousand, I'm done for the week. I'm like, they're
- 14:45Speaker 1: they are killing the game. So that's what that's what
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'm working on right now, just changing the narrative by
- 14:50Speaker 1: helping us generat income for ourselves. Okay, how do I
- 14:54Speaker 1: reshow my dollars? Because I'm gonna tell you something, I
- 14:56Speaker 1: could never have enough money, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I need I'll just Shan mcdong, oh, somebody like with y'all, Oh,
- 15:03Speaker 1: somebody not like with Shan mcconna get involved with your program,
- 15:06Speaker 1: because it tells me, here, you have four main topics, right, yes,
- 15:12Speaker 1: so be so. In my program is in trade and travel.
- 15:15Speaker 1: There's four big areas. The first one is you gotta
- 15:18Speaker 1: learn how to pick good companies, and like that's crucial.
- 15:21Speaker 1: What I see a lot of people doing is they say, well,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of money, so I'm gonna
- 15:24Speaker 1: go pick up penny stock. That is the worst thing
- 15:27Speaker 1: you can ever do. If you're really wanting to make
- 15:29Speaker 1: good income, you have to pick value companies that are healthy,
- 15:33Speaker 1: that you know will be around for a while. So
- 15:35Speaker 1: like we really really want to go with healthy companies.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Then we go into risk management, like one of one.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I've been trading for a long time now, but in
- 15:43Speaker 1: my first six years I would make a little bit
- 15:46Speaker 1: and then lose a lot and then make a little bit.
- 15:48Speaker 1: So you can't you can't be successful like that. You
- 15:50Speaker 1: have to have some type of racing management planning to
- 15:52Speaker 1: protect yourself from moving. And there's so many ways to
- 15:55Speaker 1: do that. We just don't know. No one's taught us.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like there's order types, stop block orders, and there's ways
- 16:02Speaker 1: to calculate your quantity side. Like sometimes we get so
- 16:05Speaker 1: we think that our our trade is gonna make us
- 16:08Speaker 1: rich tomorrow, so we just buy all the shares and
- 16:11Speaker 1: then it's like, wait, it didn't work out. Now I'm broke.
- 16:14Speaker 1: That's all. That's part of risk management. So we teach
- 16:18Speaker 1: risk management. And then the next thing I teach is
- 16:21Speaker 1: in charting. So in order to figure out the best
- 16:24Speaker 1: time to get in or out of a stock, you
- 16:26Speaker 1: have to learn how to read a chart. That's another
- 16:29Speaker 1: thing that I see. Novice investors like skipping, so they'll
- 16:32Speaker 1: find a company they like and then they'll get in
- 16:35Speaker 1: at any price. But then they realize that, oh man,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I just got in at the highs and now it's
- 16:39Speaker 1: going against me and I'm losing money. Knowing what price
- 16:43Speaker 1: to get into a stock is determined by reading charts.
- 16:46Speaker 1: So I teach people how to read a stock chart,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and then we go into a trading plan, because in
- 16:51Speaker 1: order to have consistency, you need a consistent plan. Like
- 16:54Speaker 1: every time I take a trade, at these seven steps,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and that's what I teach. I teach my seven steps strategy.
- 17:00Speaker 1: If you do those seven steps every time, you can
- 17:02Speaker 1: get consistency. Like that's how I made it three hundred
- 17:05Speaker 1: dollars a day. That's how I've now grown to Oh well,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I've grown over a hundred thousand dollars in a day,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but I grew to a thousand dollars in a day
- 17:12Speaker 1: and then continue. Now, one thing I hear because say
- 17:19Speaker 1: Rushan McDonald wants to jump in, I can't jump in
- 17:23Speaker 1: with a part time mentality. This has to be a commitment.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Correct it does. Now let me let me make one correction.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Though some people feel like I'm just gonna be staring
- 17:34Speaker 1: in front of a screen and it takes all day.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It does not take all day, like you can trade
- 17:38Speaker 1: within two to four hours a day, Like you don't
- 17:41Speaker 1: need all day to make your money. Um. And and
- 17:44Speaker 1: what makes that less time is a chart. When you
- 17:47Speaker 1: learn how to read the charts, it takes less time.
- 17:50Speaker 1: But yes, it should be something that you're committed to.
- 17:52Speaker 1: You don't want to have like one ft in and
- 17:54Speaker 1: one foot out. If you really want to make you
- 17:57Speaker 1: gotta be able. Yeah saying is that? Is that? Okay?
- 18:01Speaker 1: The worst part about a person like me or a
- 18:04Speaker 1: person who here's your story. Oh, I want to make
- 18:07Speaker 1: a thousand dollars a day. Okay, Okay, Now there's homework,
- 18:10Speaker 1: Like you said, there are steps. You gotta learn how
- 18:13Speaker 1: to read your charts so you can't come back screaming
- 18:16Speaker 1: the terror going. It didn't work for me. Okay, what
- 18:18Speaker 1: kind of work did you put in though? Did you
- 18:20Speaker 1: think this was just gonna be Because a lot of
- 18:22Speaker 1: people want to have that lottery mentality. They want to
- 18:25Speaker 1: put their pick their numbers and win. And I always
- 18:28Speaker 1: tell people all the time, people who were in the lottery,
- 18:30Speaker 1: they put in a lottery a lot they were just
- 18:32Speaker 1: walking there on the data numbers high and everybody's standing
- 18:36Speaker 1: in the line to get it. These people play all
- 18:38Speaker 1: the time. And so it's the same thing with stock.
- 18:42Speaker 1: You have to be committed all the time. Now, how
- 18:45Speaker 1: much time you give it is up to you, but
- 18:47Speaker 1: you still have to be consistent with it. And that's
- 18:49Speaker 1: the story you're telling on my show today. Correct. Yes,
- 18:53Speaker 1: it's like learning a new language. You don't just all
- 18:56Speaker 1: of a sudden the confluent like, no, you gotta learn
- 18:58Speaker 1: the alphabet, you have the arn sentences, practice. It takes
- 19:02Speaker 1: time and practice, and then you become fluent. It's just
- 19:05Speaker 1: the same way learning to trade. I compare it to
- 19:07Speaker 1: like learning a new language. And then once you know
- 19:10Speaker 1: the language, you don't have to use it all the time.
- 19:12Speaker 1: You can pick and choose when you decide to trade,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but at least you know the skill set and you
- 19:18Speaker 1: can have that forever, which is nice, Which is really funny.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I really love the fact that when I'm talking to you,
- 19:24Speaker 1: there's an energy in your voice, which means they're you're
- 19:26Speaker 1: still enthusied about providing this information to people and making
- 19:30Speaker 1: them successful. That's really that's It's that the education is
- 19:33Speaker 1: that the education part of you just still hanging in there.
- 19:37Speaker 1: You know, you're right, Like sometimes being an entrepreneur in
- 19:41Speaker 1: general can be kind of training. Like we all know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: like it takes a lot to a lot of effort,
- 19:46Speaker 1: a lot of energy to be able to just provide
- 19:48Speaker 1: any service. But I just get excited by my students,
- 19:51Speaker 1: like waking up today knowing that they can provide for
- 19:54Speaker 1: their families even during layoffs and and coronavirus time because
- 19:59Speaker 1: they have this feel set or they're not worried and
- 20:02Speaker 1: like they don't feel helpless when the market falls because
- 20:05Speaker 1: they don't how to control their bundy. Like knowing that
- 20:08Speaker 1: that kind of life changing like transformations are happening gets
- 20:13Speaker 1: me excited. I still I still love what I do. Well.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I can tell in your voice, and that's important that
- 20:19Speaker 1: I make that translation obvious to everybody who's listeners, that
- 20:23Speaker 1: you really want to be in people who who will
- 20:25Speaker 1: give you information and they have passion tied to it,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and they have love tied to it, and they have enthusiasm.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Because there's a lot of people out that they give
- 20:32Speaker 1: you information, but it's just a job to them, it's
- 20:35Speaker 1: just a job. They just they want you to invest
- 20:37Speaker 1: in their idea and then they want to get that
- 20:39Speaker 1: little money that you used to invest in their idea,
- 20:42Speaker 1: and that's it. And I hear a certain, a certain
- 20:46Speaker 1: youthfulness in being able to say, you know something, you
- 20:49Speaker 1: can be me and that and it's not impossible. See,
- 20:53Speaker 1: I know I can't be warm Buffett. I know I
- 20:55Speaker 1: can't do that person. He's so far ahead of the
- 20:58Speaker 1: food change is ridiculous. But I can be Terry em
- 21:03Speaker 1: If you can, you can. And I want you to
- 21:06Speaker 1: like that's the key, Like I want other people to
- 21:08Speaker 1: be like me. I want you to be able to
- 21:10Speaker 1: have freedom even if you don't want to quit your job,
- 21:12Speaker 1: but at least you have the money on the side
- 21:14Speaker 1: that you know that no one else thinks control. You know,
- 21:17Speaker 1: if you don't want to travel that's cool, but you
- 21:19Speaker 1: know you could if you wanted to, Like you can
- 21:21Speaker 1: pay off your student loans. I've paid off my student loans,
- 21:24Speaker 1: I've paid off my mortgage, like all these things like
- 21:28Speaker 1: that kind of reality and freedom you can get from
- 21:31Speaker 1: trading stocks, and I think that's the key. I want
- 21:33Speaker 1: to just change the narrative. So many people think it's
- 21:36Speaker 1: just like a long term wait till I retired, But no,
- 21:39Speaker 1: you could use the money right now to do whatever
- 21:41Speaker 1: you want to do. Okay, before we I know the
- 21:44Speaker 1: interview is gonna come to the end, I want you
- 21:46Speaker 1: to go over this webinar series called Power one Million,
- 21:50Speaker 1: and you're currently hosting a thousand dollars in the Day
- 21:53Speaker 1: campaign and those four main parts again and also how
- 21:56Speaker 1: they can be a part of it. Sure, So first,
- 22:01Speaker 1: if anybody wants to learn how I make a thousand
- 22:03Speaker 1: dollars in a day, the best website is I Trade
- 22:06Speaker 1: in Travel dot com. So that's I Trade and Travel
- 22:11Speaker 1: dot com and there's free webinar there you can learn
- 22:14Speaker 1: like my four key points that I talked about today,
- 22:17Speaker 1: So go to I Trade and Travel dot com and
- 22:20Speaker 1: check out the webinar. But the campaign, the million dollars
- 22:24Speaker 1: a day. Campaign is we're teaching a thousand people to
- 22:26Speaker 1: make a thousand dollars in a day. And there's three
- 22:28Speaker 1: ways you can get involved. Like one, join my course
- 22:31Speaker 1: and learn for yourself so that you're one of the thousands.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So learn how to make your own money. And and
- 22:37Speaker 1: the key is how much money you make will be
- 22:40Speaker 1: determined to how much you're investing. So I don't want
- 22:43Speaker 1: everyone to think, like, well, I'm gonna start with five
- 22:45Speaker 1: hundred dollars and then just make um a thousand, because
- 22:49Speaker 1: like my goal actually is for you to make one
- 22:51Speaker 1: percent of your cash amount a day. So even if
- 22:53Speaker 1: that you're investing with two thousand dollars and you make
- 22:56Speaker 1: your twention dollars a day, that's still good money. That's
- 22:58Speaker 1: a hundred extra dollars that we four hundred dollars a month.
- 23:02Speaker 1: That's twenty percent in return, which is better than the market. Right,
- 23:05Speaker 1: So we're taking we're doing small, small chunk, small attainable goals.
- 23:11Speaker 1: So like that's our goals. The first you can join
- 23:13Speaker 1: the course, you can learn how to make your money
- 23:15Speaker 1: work for you yourself. The second thing you could do
- 23:17Speaker 1: to be part of a million dollars a day is
- 23:19Speaker 1: tell someone else. So if maybe you don't want to invest,
- 23:22Speaker 1: but you know your son does, or your deshew or
- 23:25Speaker 1: someone that like women, I'm of course I'm a woman,
- 23:28Speaker 1: so I'm always gonna be advocating your your wife, your sister,
- 23:31Speaker 1: your daughter, your aunt, um like, make sure they like
- 23:36Speaker 1: you can also buy the course for them so they
- 23:38Speaker 1: can learn how to trade. And then the last thing
- 23:40Speaker 1: is sponsor a student. So one of the things that
- 23:44Speaker 1: I absolutely love about my course is that any age
- 23:47Speaker 1: group can take it. They'd either like I have people
- 23:49Speaker 1: in retirement getting ready to retire, they're learning to trade
- 23:52Speaker 1: so that they can retire. People in their like thirties
- 23:55Speaker 1: and forties, they're like me with the side of who
- 23:58Speaker 1: just want to do so I'm different they have up
- 24:00Speaker 1: some savings in their account. Or you could go to
- 24:02Speaker 1: the high school and college. Remember I was in high
- 24:05Speaker 1: school when I first learned, and I just I wish
- 24:08Speaker 1: that someone knew how to do it back then, to
- 24:11Speaker 1: sponsor someone. But those are some ways to get involved
- 24:14Speaker 1: with a million dollar a thing. Well, you know the
- 24:16Speaker 1: thing about it is that I, you know, two thousand
- 24:20Speaker 1: I invested into stock. I you know, I was and
- 24:23Speaker 1: I went with the theory of go for your shop.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And I went to home. I shopped at home Depot,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I shopped at I bought Microsoft, I bought Intail. You know,
- 24:33Speaker 1: I bought um, you know, a O L. At the time,
- 24:36Speaker 1: we all know that wasn't a good bye. But but
- 24:40Speaker 1: the good pretty good. You know, I was rocking now,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I was rocking now, you know. But but but that
- 24:47Speaker 1: was that was a good theory because the fact that
- 24:49Speaker 1: a lot of times if you if you're supporting it,
- 24:52Speaker 1: then that's a good idea that you maybe that might
- 24:55Speaker 1: be where you should put your money. So so when
- 24:57Speaker 1: you look at your course, how does your course do
- 25:00Speaker 1: for from other investing courses Terry. So there's yeah, there's
- 25:05Speaker 1: a couple of things. One, so I agree with you
- 25:08Speaker 1: that it's good to invest in companies that are that
- 25:11Speaker 1: you're familiar with. But a lot of times that's called
- 25:13Speaker 1: trend trading. A trend trader will just get into a
- 25:17Speaker 1: stock that they're familiar with and then like kind of
- 25:20Speaker 1: let it go like a buying hole. But I have
- 25:22Speaker 1: found though, if there's some companies that we are part
- 25:25Speaker 1: of that are not good companies to investing. So for example,
- 25:29Speaker 1: like Forward, I had a forward car forever, but the
- 25:32Speaker 1: stock was not a good stock to invest in. So
- 25:35Speaker 1: the difference is like learning how to do that technical
- 25:38Speaker 1: analysis piece, learning how to actually time your trades correctly,
- 25:42Speaker 1: learning that risk management piece. Those are key things that
- 25:46Speaker 1: are different in my course than other courses. Wow and
- 25:50Speaker 1: then yeah now now, so so that's the I'm doing
- 25:54Speaker 1: something you hit me dead on, okay, because of the
- 25:56Speaker 1: fact that I didn't do any education. I'm just going
- 25:59Speaker 1: out there hearing rumors theories. You know, invest on where
- 26:03Speaker 1: you eat, invest on where your shop, invest on where
- 26:06Speaker 1: you work. Those are simple theories that have no relevancy
- 26:09Speaker 1: to the bigger picture. Like you said, I was a
- 26:11Speaker 1: trend investor and I hadn't. I wasn't watching any charts,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you know. I would watch the news and go, oh,
- 26:18Speaker 1: Bam books. Let me go buy Bam books. That's hot
- 26:20Speaker 1: right now? Oh a o l that's the That is
- 26:24Speaker 1: the quickest way to lose money because a lot of
- 26:26Speaker 1: times when we hear about a company, it's already high,
- 26:29Speaker 1: so it's right about the fall by the time we
- 26:31Speaker 1: actually hear about it. And that's gonna worry about the money. See,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I was an investor and you're telling me Rashan, you
- 26:38Speaker 1: cannot be an investor. Come over to you and you
- 26:41Speaker 1: will be an investor that has information, knowledge, a plan
- 26:44Speaker 1: of action, and a plan of action that can help
- 26:46Speaker 1: you win. Terry, You're amazing. Thank you for coming. Did
- 26:54Speaker 1: we get everything in? Because I want to make sure
- 26:56Speaker 1: because because you're in the beginning, you win. I think
- 26:58Speaker 1: I want to talk about and I want to make
- 26:59Speaker 1: sure I got it all in because that's what money
- 27:01Speaker 1: making conversations all about. I want to make sure my
- 27:03Speaker 1: gifts leap happy. We got it all in and if
- 27:09Speaker 1: I think honestly, it's just that changes changing the narrative
- 27:12Speaker 1: be a part of changing the narrative for our community. Awesome,
- 27:16Speaker 1: thank you for coming on money Making Conversation and also

- 29:25Speaker 1: media wise as well, and former American TV personality. It
- 29:30Speaker 1: is her passion for style. You need for comfort. You
- 29:33Speaker 1: hear me, ladies, You hear Matt. Need for comfort that
- 29:37Speaker 1: inspires shoe Gummy, the world's first out of soul pad
- 29:40Speaker 1: and the only out of soul proven to prevent foot discomfort.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Called by high Heels, please work on the money making conversation.
- 29:47Speaker 1: The CEO and founder of shoe Gammy Chantel Jackson. Good morning, Seantel.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Did I leat you out there? I put you at
- 29:56Speaker 1: that pedalst you're supposed to be at for this interview. Well,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm you're doing a lot of women right out there,
- 30:05Speaker 1: but these high heels, because that is a fashion trend
- 30:08Speaker 1: that has been around for ages, for years forever. It's
- 30:12Speaker 1: not going anywhere, and so you are a person that
- 30:16Speaker 1: that that possessed that style. Where are you based at?
- 30:20Speaker 1: I am based in California right now? Okay, so you say,
- 30:24Speaker 1: right now, where were you previously based? Umlass And I
- 30:30Speaker 1: am from Miami. Okay, okay, okay, So you're saying Miami,
- 30:34Speaker 1: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, So you were just making your
- 30:36Speaker 1: way to the West coast. Yeah, okay, cool. Now let's
- 30:41Speaker 1: talk about They sent me a series of questions that
- 30:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask and and some questions I'm gonna add too,
- 30:46Speaker 1: because I'm just a naturally curious person when I talk
- 30:49Speaker 1: about people who are being success. One of the first
- 30:51Speaker 1: questions they sent to me was when did the entrepreneurship
- 30:54Speaker 1: bug bite you? Um? You know what, I was honestly
- 31:00Speaker 1: at a point in my life where, um, certain things
- 31:05Speaker 1: wasn't working out for me. I acting, I was going
- 31:09Speaker 1: to act in class acting school, and I was just
- 31:14Speaker 1: at a certain point and I was like, you know what,
- 31:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna put my all into this product and i
- 31:22Speaker 1: want this to be my a plan and I'm gonna
- 31:25Speaker 1: go with this and I want to give it a
- 31:26Speaker 1: hundred percent. And that's what I did. Now, where were
- 31:29Speaker 1: you at because we mentioned three cities we men to Miami,
- 31:32Speaker 1: Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. When you were becoming frustrated
- 31:35Speaker 1: and you had this idea, what city were you in?
- 31:39Speaker 1: Uh l A, Los Angeles. I'm being a guy who
- 31:43Speaker 1: pursued an acting career. I know the frustrations. You go
- 31:46Speaker 1: to acting classes, you go to auditions, they tell you know,
- 31:49Speaker 1: you don't know why they Why are they telling you know?
- 31:51Speaker 1: You don't know if you deliver the line right? Did
- 31:54Speaker 1: you do the commercial auditions as well as the theatrical
- 31:57Speaker 1: auditions as well? Um? Yeah, I was doing both. But
- 32:02Speaker 1: then I was also at a stage in my life
- 32:05Speaker 1: where honestly just got a got out of a breakup.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I was going through a lot and just acting it.
- 32:14Speaker 1: I wasn't fit with that bug anymore. And I had
- 32:17Speaker 1: this product and I knew how it worked for myself.
- 32:21Speaker 1: So it was just that a ha moment, like you
- 32:24Speaker 1: know what, this is what I need to go with
- 32:26Speaker 1: right now. Now, this is really interesting because of the
- 32:29Speaker 1: fact that you have this all hard moment, you have
- 32:32Speaker 1: this product. This is what's really interesting about our conversation
- 32:36Speaker 1: is that how did the product come about and how
- 32:40Speaker 1: did you realize that it was It's a hard moment,
- 32:43Speaker 1: can be functional and everybody else would want to participate
- 32:47Speaker 1: in this a hard moment idea. So, just to be
- 32:53Speaker 1: really honest, being obsessed with high heels, that is that
- 32:59Speaker 1: was my inspiration behind shoes. Gut me wearing and being
- 33:03Speaker 1: in shoes for over eight nins ten hours in a day. Um, honestly,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I didn't know what a pair of sneakers were or
- 33:10Speaker 1: a pair of flashes into the world unless I was
- 33:13Speaker 1: working out. So high heels was my thing is my thing,
- 33:19Speaker 1: and I just had to come up with the way
- 33:23Speaker 1: for it to be more comfortable and shoot me with
- 33:25Speaker 1: it now. So it was a lifestyle invention, a lifestyle
- 33:29Speaker 1: invention to make your life more comfortable. Now, I'm a guy,
- 33:33Speaker 1: so please explain helping y'all know the women already know
- 33:37Speaker 1: we got these high heels. The ladies look fantastic in
- 33:40Speaker 1: these high heels. What are they? What is the what
- 33:43Speaker 1: is the pain that comes with wearing high heels. So
- 33:48Speaker 1: just with being in high heels, your foot is in
- 33:51Speaker 1: an unnatural position. Um, two, three, four or five inches
- 33:58Speaker 1: If that's that's not a position for your foot, and
- 34:01Speaker 1: then the weight bearing down in that position is what
- 34:06Speaker 1: really kills you on the balls of your feet. Okay,
- 34:09Speaker 1: So I'm in my studio. You know, I'm on my
- 34:11Speaker 1: little tippy toes. I'm trying to I'm trying to feel
- 34:14Speaker 1: your pain here, chan tell Okay, so I'm on my
- 34:18Speaker 1: tippy toes and you're saying, imagine standing like this for
- 34:22Speaker 1: eight hours a day. That's what you're saying, right exactly,
- 34:26Speaker 1: or some women can't even stand the being the pair
- 34:28Speaker 1: of hills an hour or two hours. And just imagine
- 34:34Speaker 1: you're in that position and overt right over. Sevent of
- 34:43Speaker 1: your body weight is on the balls of your feet
- 34:47Speaker 1: for hours. Right now, let imasgine this what stops your
- 34:52Speaker 1: foot from just sliding right on out? Um of the
- 34:59Speaker 1: high yell one. If you have a closed toe shoe,
- 35:03Speaker 1: then your foot's not gonna slide out, but it can
- 35:06Speaker 1: slide and be crunched in the front, right, That's what
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm talking about. Yeah, Um, if you have an open
- 35:13Speaker 1: toes too. You have that little piece of that little
- 35:16Speaker 1: strap in the front that helps. But a lot of
- 35:19Speaker 1: women's feet because of the arch or the steepness in
- 35:23Speaker 1: the shoe, do still slide forward. And shoe got me
- 35:27Speaker 1: helps with that as well, right, so it stops their
- 35:29Speaker 1: toes from going over to the edge on the edge
- 35:32Speaker 1: of the shoe, right that you talk about. Okay, to
- 35:36Speaker 1: have six sisters, so I've watched them do this high
- 35:40Speaker 1: heel walking um dance for many years. Well, but I
- 35:46Speaker 1: gotta play like I don't know to get more information. Okay,
- 35:49Speaker 1: I can sit on this phone act like I know
- 35:51Speaker 1: everything because you won't tell many things because the artists
- 35:53Speaker 1: are walking away. Go. Well, I didn't learn anything for
- 35:56Speaker 1: the interview because of the fact that this you you
- 35:59Speaker 1: invented something and I was on my toes and I'm
- 36:02Speaker 1: just to be honest with you, Rachean McDonald would not
- 36:04Speaker 1: have stood there long. I would have been out of
- 36:06Speaker 1: little shoes a long time ago because that just wasn't so.
- 36:11Speaker 1: So you have let me just help help me out here.
- 36:13Speaker 1: Because I've heard words like high heels, I've heard words
- 36:16Speaker 1: like pumps. Now pumps are lower version of high heels correct. Um, No,
- 36:23Speaker 1: not necessarily like UM, open toe shoe a pump. Those
- 36:29Speaker 1: can be in the range of a two inch, three
- 36:31Speaker 1: inchield four inch five and pump. A pump is a
- 36:36Speaker 1: closed toe shoe, whether it's round at the front or appointed. Wow.
- 36:42Speaker 1: So now we we we we got the experience. So
- 36:45Speaker 1: you're saying that, hey, I'm gonna put this acting thing
- 36:48Speaker 1: is not really doing it for me. I have this idea.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna go all in. This is gonna be my
- 36:54Speaker 1: plan A. How do you go to plan a with
- 36:57Speaker 1: this idea? Because it's still just an idea? Do you
- 37:00Speaker 1: do samples? Did you go to somebody, did you start
- 37:02Speaker 1: telling them at flea markets or pop up boots? How
- 37:06Speaker 1: did you get started? So? Um? Before I figured this
- 37:12Speaker 1: is gonna be my plan a, I have been wearing
- 37:15Speaker 1: my product for years already. Um. One day I was
- 37:21Speaker 1: sitting and I thought, looking at my shoes, honestly, how
- 37:25Speaker 1: can I make this more comfortable? I went to my
- 37:28Speaker 1: shoe repair guy UM at the time, and I asked him,
- 37:34Speaker 1: what is an amount of rubber that I can put
- 37:39Speaker 1: on the bottom of my shoe? Um, and I can
- 37:42Speaker 1: still walk in it safely and comfortable. So, uh, we
- 37:49Speaker 1: came up with in size or an amount of rubber.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I picked up the shoe about a week later, and
- 37:57Speaker 1: I wore that shoe, and I kid you not, I
- 38:00Speaker 1: was taking my shoes twenty and thirty pair at a
- 38:03Speaker 1: time for him to put this extra rubber on the
- 38:06Speaker 1: bottom of my shoe. M m hmm. So it was
- 38:10Speaker 1: just like an idea. It's really it's really amazing that
- 38:13Speaker 1: you were able to not saying that you care, not
- 38:15Speaker 1: incapable of so many women out there probably feeling the
- 38:18Speaker 1: same pain, and then you decided to just to take
- 38:22Speaker 1: action on it. And when you took action on it,
- 38:24Speaker 1: it enabled you to create a business. Now, how do
- 38:28Speaker 1: you get into the business aspect of what you're doing?
- 38:30Speaker 1: That's the that's the that's the key. Now you know
- 38:33Speaker 1: you you went from a person who are wanted to
- 38:36Speaker 1: be an actress. You got this idea, now you're putting
- 38:40Speaker 1: it in action. How do we get into a business
- 38:42Speaker 1: mode with it? So before anything, I thought, you know what,
- 38:49Speaker 1: let me see if this is even a thing anywhere
- 38:53Speaker 1: else or whatnot? What went to your girlfriends or you
- 38:57Speaker 1: just went to your family members? Who did you go to? Um? No?
- 39:02Speaker 1: I immediately went to a patent lawyer. I'm sorry, Richla,
- 39:08Speaker 1: I was a little bit of pro I've been. I'm
- 39:10Speaker 1: past that. I went to a patent lawyer. Okay, Yeah,
- 39:15Speaker 1: so I went to a patent lawyer, and we had
- 39:18Speaker 1: to do what is called a patent research, which searches
- 39:22Speaker 1: the database first to see if there's anything else in
- 39:27Speaker 1: the US patent database. That is what shotgun me is
- 39:34Speaker 1: and we've seen that it was not, and that where
- 39:38Speaker 1: we moved forward. Had to get all the terminology, the
- 39:43Speaker 1: lane going together to start to create my patent application. Wow.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Now on your website said it took two and a
- 39:52Speaker 1: half years for your patent to go through. Okay, now,
- 39:57Speaker 1: were you're afraid that somebody will still your idea? What
- 40:00Speaker 1: was going what was running through your mind in a
- 40:02Speaker 1: two and a half of your period? Let me ask you.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Let me back up. Were you selling your product at
- 40:08Speaker 1: all at that time or you have to shut it
- 40:10Speaker 1: down and just wait for your pattern to come through? No? No, honestly,
- 40:14Speaker 1: at that point I wasn't selling products. I was still
- 40:18Speaker 1: in research development phase, like the start start. So as
- 40:24Speaker 1: soon as I winning got a patent attorney, I went
- 40:28Speaker 1: and found a company that did cat designing and product
- 40:32Speaker 1: development to help me start to get my shoe gummy
- 40:39Speaker 1: uh designed together to make it a consumer product. Okay,
- 40:44Speaker 1: and so so now two and a half years that period,
- 40:47Speaker 1: you just just preparing because you feel very confident that
- 40:50Speaker 1: you're gonna get through. You just don't know when that
- 40:52Speaker 1: date's going to happen. You're still in Los Angeles right now,
- 40:54Speaker 1: are you gathering are you gathering momentum work working on designs?
- 40:58Speaker 1: Because I'm on your website and your use are amazing.
- 41:01Speaker 1: By the way, are those your shoes or these are
- 41:05Speaker 1: your shoes? You can just put the inserts in on
- 41:08Speaker 1: your website. Uh, those are my shoes. Wow, when I
- 41:17Speaker 1: say I'm a shoe set, these shoes are fantastic. Oh
- 41:21Speaker 1: tell you. So these shoes off the chain right here,
- 41:24Speaker 1: I'm looking at this shoot on your home page. These
- 41:26Speaker 1: the red, the yellow, that black. Oh my god. Yeah,
- 41:34Speaker 1: you know what I call it. That's my good bad habit. Well,
- 41:39Speaker 1: we'll keep it up, keep this good habit going because
- 41:41Speaker 1: of the fact that I'm just saying. You know, the
- 41:43Speaker 1: thing about it is, we all know that as you
- 41:46Speaker 1: look through life, as you deal with different situations, you
- 41:49Speaker 1: have to be a believer in yourself. You have to
- 41:51Speaker 1: have the right people around you. The fact that you
- 41:53Speaker 1: came up with an idea basically to find comfort for
- 41:56Speaker 1: your personal lifestyle, and then now you're able to use
- 41:59Speaker 1: it to for financial benefit, it's pretty amazing. Chantel Jackson,
- 42:03Speaker 1: you're the CEO, the founder of shoe got me, shoot,
- 42:05Speaker 1: gut me. Now, let's let's I gotta at least find
- 42:08Speaker 1: out where the title came from the name of the brand.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Gum me. You know what I I I can't honestly
- 42:19Speaker 1: tell you where it came from. It. It was just
- 42:24Speaker 1: like I was writing down name and that one just
- 42:29Speaker 1: came across my mind and it stuck out better than
- 42:35Speaker 1: anything else, and so I kept it. And honestly, I've
- 42:41Speaker 1: been told to change it is not right. Um, it
- 42:45Speaker 1: sounds like something you eat. But I was like, this
- 42:49Speaker 1: is what I want to go with, and that's what
- 42:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna do. What crazy person told you to change it?
- 42:53Speaker 1: What crazy person told you to change that? We won't
- 42:56Speaker 1: say no. Just soon listened to him because the fact
- 42:59Speaker 1: that you know, I don't know what Google means. You
- 43:02Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, I don't know what Google means.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Apple that's a computer company. Apple is fruit. So when
- 43:08Speaker 1: people you have to go with it. What inspires you.
- 43:11Speaker 1: That's a story behind everything that you do. You know.
- 43:13Speaker 1: And when I heard the word names, you got me.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you how I found you. You know,
- 43:17Speaker 1: I'm on Instagram. I'm I'm rolling through and now I
- 43:20Speaker 1: see I come to you. You know, you got over
- 43:23Speaker 1: a million followers. You're a social media influence. I just
- 43:25Speaker 1: got my little, my little thirty seven thousand followers on Instagram.
- 43:30Speaker 1: I'm big on Facebook now, don't don't know shut me
- 43:32Speaker 1: down yet. I'm big on Facebook. But on Instagram, iBook,
- 43:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to build my Facebook up. Well, you know,
- 43:38Speaker 1: it's really hard because your Twitter is like ridiculous. Twitter
- 43:41Speaker 1: is ridiculous. Now, so you're you're you are a queen
- 43:44Speaker 1: baller on Instagram and so and so. I bring this
- 43:49Speaker 1: up because you're an entrepreneur and you're an attractive entrepreneur.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Does that help you or hurt you when you're trying
- 43:55Speaker 1: to get your brand out because as a brand, your
- 43:58Speaker 1: great model for your brand. Just talk about that for
- 44:01Speaker 1: a little bit, because you know, we're in me two
- 44:03Speaker 1: generations where where people could look at an attractive woman
- 44:06Speaker 1: and just have miss misdeed ideas in their head versus
- 44:10Speaker 1: the business aspect of what you're trying to create. Talk
- 44:12Speaker 1: about that balance that you have to create being an
- 44:14Speaker 1: attractive woman in a male dominated business. Well, you know, honestly,
- 44:21Speaker 1: with shoegunning in general, it's dominated by women. Were high
- 44:28Speaker 1: you so, and it doesn't hurt for me to be
- 44:32Speaker 1: attractive and be my own spokeswoman. I am on the
- 44:35Speaker 1: box of my product. You know. Um, this is something
- 44:41Speaker 1: I do day in and day out. I wear heels,
- 44:44Speaker 1: I'm sexy. I want to be in my heels. I
- 44:49Speaker 1: want to be comfortable. I don't want my my my
- 44:54Speaker 1: I don't want to be at an event and I'm thinking, um, oh,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I gotta leave because my eat hurt. Like this is
- 45:01Speaker 1: what I right, right, right, right right, So it comes
- 45:08Speaker 1: naturally and just with this it's generated towards women. So
- 45:16Speaker 1: it's it is easy or easier. Now, tell me do
- 45:20Speaker 1: you go to conventions? Do you go to do you
- 45:23Speaker 1: pop up? How is your brand soul? Is it majority
- 45:27Speaker 1: online that your product is sold? Or do you do
- 45:30Speaker 1: conventions and conferences and women are like essence or you
- 45:34Speaker 1: know the celebration of sisters and uh circular sisters in
- 45:38Speaker 1: New York City large scale female conventions. How do you
- 45:41Speaker 1: promote your brand because you have such a tremendous following.
- 45:45Speaker 1: So as of right now, it's my own online based
- 45:48Speaker 1: sales which have been doing tremendously honestly, because of what's
- 45:57Speaker 1: going on right now in the world, things have ow
- 46:00Speaker 1: down a lot, but I am blessed with still getting
- 46:03Speaker 1: customers here and there. But it's not stopping um my show,
- 46:09Speaker 1: and I still have to continue on. You know, I
- 46:12Speaker 1: have other things too to produce and work on. Still, well,
- 46:17Speaker 1: let's talk about those other things. You know they say
- 46:20Speaker 1: that you have other products, uh that you want to
- 46:22Speaker 1: talk about. Let's talk about some of your future ideas
- 46:24Speaker 1: fancy goods. Uh so fancy goods. Honestly, let me kind
- 46:31Speaker 1: of take it back a little bit. O. Shoe gut
- 46:34Speaker 1: me has been primarily my thing for like five and
- 46:37Speaker 1: a half years now. Congratulations here and a half, thank you,
- 46:42Speaker 1: thank you. It's been a long time coming. And when
- 46:45Speaker 1: I say a long time, just with so much uh
- 46:51Speaker 1: wanting to quit heartache with why can't this just be
- 46:57Speaker 1: something easy? Like have no idea? But WHI shoes got me?
- 47:07Speaker 1: About a year ago. Um, I was like, uh, this
- 47:11Speaker 1: is just stagnant right now, I have to do something.
- 47:14Speaker 1: So I came up with Fancy Goods and I just
- 47:16Speaker 1: went out on a whim and produced an eyelash company. Um,
- 47:22Speaker 1: that's something something else that I'm obsessed, obsessed with. I'm
- 47:27Speaker 1: gonna go to the website. See if I see some applight,
- 47:29Speaker 1: I see the eye lashes, I definitely see that. Okay, cool? Continue? Um,
- 47:34Speaker 1: So which I love you know I love about you
- 47:36Speaker 1: Sean tell you are your brand? Yes, yes, very true.
- 47:42Speaker 1: You know if you got about the shoes, you got them.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Now you said you know some eyelashes. That's me and
- 47:48Speaker 1: so it's nothing phony about what you're saying in this interview.
- 47:51Speaker 1: You you sell the lifestyle that you live, which means
- 47:54Speaker 1: that you're authentic. That's awesome, yes, which honestly makes it
- 48:00Speaker 1: easy Like and just to create content for myself, Like
- 48:05Speaker 1: you know what if I'm getting up, um, getting dressed,
- 48:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna put on my own lashes. I get free
- 48:11Speaker 1: content videos, all that to continue to post and all
- 48:15Speaker 1: that good stuff. It just comes easy. But with starting
- 48:19Speaker 1: Fancy Goods, I was like, you know what I'm gonna
- 48:22Speaker 1: take this amount of money and I'm gonna see I
- 48:25Speaker 1: can flip it. We all know, like, well some people
- 48:30Speaker 1: know eyelashes is a real saturated market. But I was like,
- 48:34Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna take this. I'm gonna see
- 48:36Speaker 1: what it does. And in about three months, I had
- 48:39Speaker 1: this company up and running from getting samples from vendors,
- 48:43Speaker 1: taking pictures, building the website on my own. And honestly,
- 48:48Speaker 1: it's almost coming up on a year of launching fancy
- 48:52Speaker 1: goods and it's doing pretty well. So it so you're
- 48:59Speaker 1: like a little you've becoming a little, a little mogul
- 49:02Speaker 1: over there in the beauty beauty brand business. Correct, because
- 49:06Speaker 1: now you got the shoes, You got the shoe, got
- 49:07Speaker 1: me things happening and shoes, and now you have the
- 49:11Speaker 1: lush lashes. Yes, okay, cool Now you didn't you didn't
- 49:16Speaker 1: have to deal with any patent issues with the lush lashes. Correct? No, No, okay,
- 49:22Speaker 1: cool now issues? Okay, cool. Now we're going to the
- 49:27Speaker 1: skin care products. Now you have naturally beautiful skin, and
- 49:32Speaker 1: just talk about chic with a cheep beaute or chip
- 49:36Speaker 1: beautae beauty cheep beauty Okay. Coop uh So, a former
- 49:44Speaker 1: agent of mind. She came to me with an idea
- 49:50Speaker 1: about a sponge, and she knows how I pride myself
- 49:54Speaker 1: in skincare and all of that stuff, so she brought
- 50:01Speaker 1: this idea to me. She asked about certain types of
- 50:05Speaker 1: phones and things like that, so I pointed her in
- 50:08Speaker 1: the right direction. Uh. She's also a steamstress, so she
- 50:15Speaker 1: had all these industrial machines too, So together the sponges
- 50:21Speaker 1: and all that good stuff. So we got the We
- 50:25Speaker 1: got the right home. We put it together for a year,
- 50:30Speaker 1: a year and a half, tested it out ourselves, and
- 50:35Speaker 1: I just thought it was time to go with it.
- 50:38Speaker 1: And so maybe not even a month ago, we launched that.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I built the website for us, and we are active. Honestly.
- 50:55Speaker 1: It's come at a time where things are so slow
- 50:59Speaker 1: right now. But if you don't put that, if you
- 51:05Speaker 1: don't put that foot forward out there, then you don't
- 51:08Speaker 1: know what's going to happen. Absolutely, we know the thing
- 51:11Speaker 1: about I just we all know why it's slow. We
- 51:14Speaker 1: all understand that people people don't you know, people right
- 51:18Speaker 1: down struggling to find out how to put their foot
- 51:22Speaker 1: forward in anything right now. The thing I like about
- 51:25Speaker 1: you is that you're not letting conditions stop you from
- 51:28Speaker 1: moving forward. Because I tell people, I tell people all
- 51:30Speaker 1: the time, this is a good time to catch up.
- 51:32Speaker 1: It's a good time to plan. You see, right now,
- 51:35Speaker 1: I'm planning for the third and the fourth quarter right now,
- 51:38Speaker 1: because I know right now this country, this country is
- 51:40Speaker 1: gonna get back on his feet. And when it gets
- 51:43Speaker 1: back on his feet, it's not going gonna be walking fat.
- 51:45Speaker 1: It's gonna start running. And what you don't want to
- 51:48Speaker 1: do is sit on your rear, end on your behind,
- 51:51Speaker 1: or mope around and talking about, oh man, what I'm
- 51:54Speaker 1: gonna do. No, you're planning, You're thinking and thought this
- 51:58Speaker 1: whole interview, Chantelle, that's all. That's My biggest takeaway from
- 52:01Speaker 1: you is that you're not a person that sits around
- 52:03Speaker 1: in mopes. You're not a person to go if it's
- 52:06Speaker 1: not happening over here, oh always me, I just is
- 52:09Speaker 1: not gonna happen for me, you go. What's playing a
- 52:11Speaker 1: over here that I can build on? Is that? Is
- 52:13Speaker 1: that something that came from your parents? It's something that
- 52:16Speaker 1: just a natural quality in you. Um. I would definitely
- 52:21Speaker 1: say my parents have helped with that, especially my dad.
- 52:26Speaker 1: My dad owns a pest control service. In Florida. So um,
- 52:32Speaker 1: he's an entrepreneur himself, so I have taken those good
- 52:42Speaker 1: qualities from him. Well, also my mom like he's a
- 52:45Speaker 1: very hard worker, still go to school and she's uh
- 52:51Speaker 1: sixty three years old. I believe I love it, love it,
- 52:55Speaker 1: love it. I would tell people, don't let age determine
- 52:59Speaker 1: your dream. Don't let age tell you can stop being
- 53:02Speaker 1: something that everybody else tells you shouldn't be. I always
- 53:04Speaker 1: look at people at my age. I go you to
- 53:07Speaker 1: my same age, I'm really shocked because I know I
- 53:09Speaker 1: don't look like you. It is when people will decide
- 53:12Speaker 1: that they need to retire in life, is when age
- 53:15Speaker 1: jumps on their back. Chantell, I don't think age is
- 53:18Speaker 1: ever gonna jump on your high heel, Wind Lush Wind
- 53:22Speaker 1: skin tone product self at all. You're gonna be in
- 53:27Speaker 1: front of the curve. You're gonna like it's it's a
- 53:30Speaker 1: whole lot of people. By the time you're making the
- 53:32Speaker 1: A RP. You're gonna have a whole lot of shoes
- 53:35Speaker 1: and gummies and our last is for that group of people.
- 53:39Speaker 1: See that's what I love about you. You are You're
- 53:42Speaker 1: not gonna stop. So Donty could your tone kind of
- 53:44Speaker 1: drop down a little bit. We said, well, it's kind
- 53:46Speaker 1: of slow right now. Don't worry about that. Oh no,
- 53:50Speaker 1: for sure, honestly, like, I still have some like you said,
- 53:53Speaker 1: work to catch up on names that I was pooping
- 53:56Speaker 1: off that now I have more times to do. Um. Um,
- 54:01Speaker 1: it's definitely a blessing that my my manufacturers in Maine

- 57:35Speaker 1: My next guest is the co founder and CEO of
- 57:38Speaker 1: Miss Jesse LLC, the company behind the premium hair care
- 57:42Speaker 1: product line. You know I'm ball headed, so you know
- 57:45Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about hair care, but won't be offended
- 57:47Speaker 1: by they all. Miss Jesse exclusively caters to the diverse
- 57:51Speaker 1: spectrum of all curly hair types. I used to have
- 57:54Speaker 1: curly hair type. I used to be back in the day,
- 57:57Speaker 1: was out in the college. You would you you you
- 57:59Speaker 1: couldn't say tell me nothing at all, Please work on
- 58:02Speaker 1: the money making conversation, Ko Branch Nicole. I'd have no company.
- 58:07Speaker 1: I'd have little comments about you know, you're talking about
- 58:09Speaker 1: curly hand you know, fine looking hair care, and you
- 58:14Speaker 1: know I got some hair, but I don't think I
- 58:17Speaker 1: can find it as quickly as I used to find
- 58:18Speaker 1: the NKO. You know that's okay. We know you have curls.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Good good. I love the respect. I love the respect.
- 58:28Speaker 1: We'll walk up to money making conversation. Nico. How are
- 58:30Speaker 1: you are you are you doing? And said you founded
- 58:31Speaker 1: the company with your sister, right, yeah, just so good
- 58:35Speaker 1: to be here, Rashan, so good to speak to you.
- 58:38Speaker 1: And yes, I started the company with my late great sister,
- 58:41Speaker 1: speaking branch and we started our business and our brownstone
- 58:45Speaker 1: light of our kitchen table. Okay, wow, okay, first of all,
- 58:50Speaker 1: thank you for that, for being happy to be on
- 58:53Speaker 1: my show. Where are you calling from right now? So
- 58:57Speaker 1: right now I'm calling you talk Florida, Miami. I'm what
- 59:02Speaker 1: I was able to get here. Yeah, Miami. The good
- 59:06Speaker 1: food down there. I went to a restaurant called hif
- 59:09Speaker 1: Havannah eighteen fifty seven, very good restaurant. I went down
- 59:12Speaker 1: there when I was down there from January. So I
- 59:15Speaker 1: love with Miami. I love being down there now on
- 59:18Speaker 1: your kitchen table. Now see that that's that's really a
- 59:21Speaker 1: dream to say you started at the at some place
- 59:25Speaker 1: where you would eat breakfast, launcher dinner and that's what
- 59:28Speaker 1: that's that's what the idea of the concept of and
- 59:32Speaker 1: of of what you what you has become a successful
- 59:36Speaker 1: brand and a trusted brand among women of color. Correct. Correct.
- 59:43Speaker 1: I think our humble beginnings UM was really a nice
- 59:47Speaker 1: way to connect with our customers. Luckily were Sister Tip
- 59:51Speaker 1: and our able to make products that really worked. And
- 59:55Speaker 1: when we started sharing the products from Talan Home stay
- 59:59Speaker 1: On really really caught fire. And uh we even marketing
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: and making products for people who had similar here to
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: The interesting thing about it because that's what that's what
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: makes it is authentic because you use it, because you
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: made a product that you use. It's almost like what
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: happened to Madam C. J. Walker, you know, back in
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: the day, and it's your journey is is fast forward.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: There's still no difference. You know, she was an inspirational
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: woman who had an idea, saw a need for African
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: American women and also for so need that can make
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: them look good about themselves. Isn't that the bottom line
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: about your product is about making women feel good about themselves,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Making women feel that that that they're that what they's
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: been given to him them by God. They don't have
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: to straighten it. They don't have to do all these
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: different things. They can actually just live this lifestyle and
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: be comfortable correct cut. That is the bottom line is
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: shown that. But the bottom line is being able to succeed.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Products that are helpful is not you know, just not
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: limited to women. It's for for everyone, including them, including
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: little boys. Um. Anyone who's had texture wants the solution
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: is jesse as really and you know, to make make
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: things that worked and uh and making that work. So
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: now when I was, when I was, when I was
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: doing research on you and you was talking about the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: diverse curly hair types they named you know, you know
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the whole thing is that you named the product after
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: your paternal grandmother, jesse May Branch. So so this whole brand,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: it seems so natural, so authentic, because you go, where
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: do you get that name from? Well, that's my paternal grandmother.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: So what what what was the inspirational instincts that she
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: had that that said, you know something we're gonna put
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: We're gonna put her name on our product. M h.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Our grandmother, jesse Um played such a huge role in
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: our in our family and particularly in the lives of
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: me and my sister teachings. You know, we spent a
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: lot of summaries and a lot of times sitting on
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: there my grandmother is kitching table, and you know, she
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: happened to be a great cook. But if you sat
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: around Jessie me grand you couldn't just sit there. You
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: had to be a very very good helper. So it
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: wasn't uncommon for TP and I to mix the measure
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: to stir the poor a little disney. Know that that
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: experience of being a wonderful helper to our grandmother would
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: be the speed for us to create sus that work.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: But you know, outside of her, you know are seeing
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: great health is and her being a wonderful cook. She
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: was also the first CEO we've ever seen, the first
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: female CEO we've ever seen, and that that woman ruled
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: our family from her kitchen table. So uh, TP and
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: I did not go to business school, so when it
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: came time for us to make decisions in our own business,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: we often tapped into what would yes you do. It's
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: really amazing because you know, we all know the times
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: that we are living in and guess what they're not
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: gonna change. It's because to change the way we wear clothes,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the way we interact, where we where we shake hands
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: or whether we greet people and social distancing. You are
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: in a business where hair salons very intimate environments. How
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: is that affecting right now? You know a lot of
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: a lot of states are on lockdown. We know they're
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: gonna get out of that pretty soon, I believe in
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: the MONTHA made you know, especially with them ordering mask
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: to be worn now and things of that nature, how
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: is that affecting it? Because one of your questions about
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: how you're navigating this whole period that now doing the
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: outbreak and practice and safe social distancing. Talk to us
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: about that. So when they say that God works in
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: amazing ways, you know he truly does. You know, UM
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: over a decade ago and more than a decade ago,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: when Keeping and I first started making products, we really
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: focused on the customer and giving her the information to
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: on her is how to give us here is how
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: to do all these things at home. It was less
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: about arm in the style is, but more about teaching
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: us how to do our own hair. So fast forward
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: to what'll happening now and all of the UM social
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: distancing and everything that's going on, the good believes is
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: that through the natural hair movement. Many of us have
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: had a head to start on how to take products
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: like Miss Jesse, bring them home and to be able
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: to care for our hair. You know. So in times
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: like this I don't worry a lot about us because
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I know that we're very We're very good at what
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: we do. We have the dexterity we have to know
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: how and we've been trained. When I say we, I
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: include myself as a customer. We've been trained on how
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: to do our hair all along. So at this point,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: you know, many people know and love Miss Jesse to
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: know how to use it, so in these times they're
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: actually using it more, you know. So God has just
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: been so good and that he's taught us. He's taught
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: peeping out how to share in the nation. But He's
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: also are many of us that want to do in
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: a case like this, and many of us the self sufficient.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Now I was had social media played the role and
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: some of the things have you done like do it
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: yourself videos and things like that on YouTube? How How
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: how's your presence been? You know, you're the you know,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: the matriarchy, the voice, you the founder, one of the
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: founders of this company. How how has your role changed
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: during this time period and in the future, you know
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: you've done my role. You know, it's it's changed in
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: some ways, but it's also remained the same way. Before
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: social media. There's even a thing teaching. And I spoke
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: to our customer on ours the landslore thank god for
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: the Internet, and that at the time in the chat
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: room when women were talking and thank god you maybe
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: you're making products that work, and each one told one
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: about this job curl Magic. It was clearly putting at
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: the time, and it was groundbreaking because there was nothing
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: like it in the market. And that was express fire.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Jessie was being mixed at the kitchen table Rashaan before
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: they were going Viral was the word, right right, right, yeah,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: way before social media. So now social media is a
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: more interactive way how to get the good world out. Um,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: but social media is just an additional platform. Was being
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: able to connect with our customers and to give her
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: all of the information that you need so she can
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: continue to do all the great things for her here
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: and us the right product. We know, it's really interesting
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: you say that because I know when I was managing
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Steve Harvey, you know, we were remember two thousand seven.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: That's when social media started a peak on every appear
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: on everybody's radar. You look on TV and you see
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: the Twitter, Twitter little tag or the host names and
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: ambulance names and things like that. But we had our
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: little fan club. We had like eight hundred thousand fan
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: club members, and so we knew when we said out
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: a fan club to that they wanted us. They signed
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: up for that. But like you're saying, you use, you're
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: balancing both. You're balancing what you how you built your
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: brand with this new technique, but not leaving the technique
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: that started you. And that's really important because as we
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: all know, it's like you know, it's like if you
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: live and if you live your life and only know
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: how to live your life through electricity, what's gonna happen
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: when you lose electricity? And that's what you're saying here.
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: If you if you built the foundation, and that's what
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: we're talking about right now. We're talking about building the
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: foundation that started at your kitchen table, just started on
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: the internet, that started with fan club, just started with emails,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, this this this social
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: media that has taken over the world. You go, that's
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: just a blessing right there, because we're not gonna stop
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: doing what we're doing. We're just gonna add that to
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: the blessing. The opportunity training that really really betimes inspirational.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing that on my show. Yeah, you know,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: just being able to create that foundation. And the key was,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: you know, making egging conducts truly work. You know during
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: these times there are no tricks, there is no social
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: media marketing. Again, it's it's truly just the foundation um
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: to be able to be built on with social media,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: with people in music, to spread the good word about
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Miss Jess. Now, when we were talking about what role
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: did did your paternal grandmother played in your life? That
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: that sounded like some paternal grandmother information that you just
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: broke off on us on the show before we went
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: to break right, Nicole, Yes, yes, yes, you know what
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: it's called. It's called love and if you're able to
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: spead love, everybody be able to receive it in the
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: right way, no gimmicks, just the real thing. Cool. Now,
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: before I left, I did a little you know, a
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: little tease and everything about what we're about to talk about.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: So let's talk about some of the Miss Jesse's signature
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: product lines educated not only with Sean mcgone, but my
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: listeners because we know it's on the store shelves. You know,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: I going, I going wall rings, the cvs, UH different targets,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: stores and things like that. And you know, mostly in
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: in the CVS and the walk when they have an
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: UH Minority highcare or African American hair care products section,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: that's where your product will be found correct there and
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: and there, and it's kind of other places, yes, ma'am.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: And so let's talk about some of your signature product lines. Well,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I couldn't tell the Miss Jestice's story proper if I
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: didn't even create our first product, which was curly putting.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Curly putting with the ground breaker, the game changer. It
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: was curly. It's the pudding that's purple. It did everything
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: it said it was going to do, returned your fizzy
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: flows into curly cues and people just loved it. And
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: then you know, Miss Jesse's were innovators. So later on
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: we will come out with Pelesft Curl. We were able
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: to marry hairkit technology with fabriage ship technology and it
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: gives such a soft and nice, touchable um curl. But
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: that there's also products like jelly Salt curls. Jelly Soft
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: curls is another innovator, and that it's to jail, but
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: it's so soft for sean. You know, anyone can use it,
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: whether you're a man, if you want to create your waves,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: or whether you want to just you know, do curls.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Anyone's music. And of course we have new products. Now
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: we have our new so free Harmony not you can
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: get it in CVS. It's gonna too um. It's the
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: one is for gentile but so soft, selfish state shampool
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: and everyone is really loving it. Right now. You want
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: me to go on, I'm on the website. I'm on
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: the website, the Miss Jesse website. You know, I'm looking
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: at stylars for wavy hair, products for curly hair, tight
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: curly stylers for kinky hair. Then you come down here
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: you got the you know, the curl collection. See see
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: the wavy, the curly, the kinky, the transitioners or come on,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: now you got something for everybody, the multicultural curls god
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: tag Miss Jesse. I love it. I love it. You
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: are than everybody, everybody, It's true, and we just got
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: the news in today. I'm Kanye West, like Kin Kardashian
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Um was just posted some on the lower magazines by
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: Celebrity here songs on Andrews six centers and he loves
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: miss Jessie and we were just so excited to see
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: if he needs Miss jesse hold me down on kicks
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Dashians baby there. So we truly are coming up something
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: We'll just tell you, you know. You know, that's like
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: that that's like the blessing of the year right there,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: because the Kardashes don't play around what they follow us.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: They follow us are crazy good and loyal. That's like
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: you can't buy that when when you have somebody that
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: for a post, somebody has to pay a half million
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: dollars to post, you know, they brand how how their
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: engagement and when they tell people to go in a
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: certain direction, what that means for your brand? And that's
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: like I said, if you just keep telling your story.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: And like I said, when we when you started talking,
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: you know, I get curious, So I said, let's see
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: what she's talking about. What she's talking about now with
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: just a website, you're not just kidding you. You've done
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: your research. You know. We may have started on the
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: kitchen table, but you're not on the kitchen table no more,
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: not in the two thousand and four when you start
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: in mind, you know you in Miami, you way above
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: the lane. So what what made you believe that you
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: needed all this? And I'm just asking a general question
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: because out of curiosity, you know a lot of people
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: want stand the lane. But you got the wavy hair,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: the curly hair, the tight curly, the kiky hair, which
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: lets you know the research that all curly hair is
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: not alike, so you have to have so you have
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: to have, you know, a hair care for that particular style.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: That's what it is that I am I saying the
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: right things. Well, I'll put this way. You know, whether
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: you curly kick away, there's something for you. You know,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: it's not uncommon Russian for two people, you know, to
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: use the same products. And that's the thing about clearly
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: here is it had a way or dealing with texts here.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Miss Steptin's had a wonderful way of speaking to many
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: different um cultures, many different ethnicities because there was a
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: common ground. And that's what I love so much about
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: what we do. We're not just talking about, you know,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: the little girl. We're not just talking about we're not
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: just talking to women, We're talking to men. Whether you're
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: African American, whether you're Latina, whether you're you know, we
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: we have something for you. And I think we're all
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: looking for solutions and it has no color, you know,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: So I think being helpful as the key. So just
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: as you know, we were stay focused on that and
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: we were able to build our products line based on
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: we're just trying to come up with a solution to
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: be helpful. And you're doing and you do a lot
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: of people. I interview a lot of people on this
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: show and I didn't bless to interview a lot of
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: people in the hair care business. And my number one
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: takeaway is that you provide information. You provide more information
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: about hairstyles than I've ever interviewed anybody on this show.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Because when I go to this one page, well, you
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: get a description. You actually get a description of what
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: a waving hair is. You get a description of what
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: the curly hair is, you get a description of what
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: a kinky hairstyle is. A transitioners whether the what the
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: what type of hairstyle is. In other words, if you
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: don't know, now you know when you come to Miss
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: Jesse and that to me is that that type of
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: detail tells me why you are who you are. You
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: leave no doubt. One thing I've learned is information is
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: what makes people successful. Information and communication is key to success.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: You know, you sat down and not only launched a
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: new product, but you said, I'm gonna educate people about
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: our product and also tell them how our product works
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: for them. You you took out, You took all of
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: the all of the was and what they say, doubt
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: are the questions out of the servant because you're covering
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: every hairstyle here, every hairstyle. So my question to you,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: my question to you is this. And I don't want
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: to talk too much because this is your show, this
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: is your moment, and I'm just excited because I'm being
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: you know, all this great differmat I'm an information guy.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: When I started getting information, I'm being educated because I
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: started off the show with the little jokes about me
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: being bald headed and they ain't got no hair and
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: all that. Now now I'm like, wow, wow, Miss Jesse
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: is the bomb. She's the original, she's the queen, she's
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: the beast, she's the mover in the shape you and
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I am. I am I putting too much up on you. Well,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: you know, I think I think ros Sean, I think less.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: You know, for me, it's just hard for me to
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: not stay focused on our mention and what we're trying
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: to do. And I just nearly stay focused on coming
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: up with those solutions because I know people they want
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: to be their best and I think for many years,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: many of us, particularly the person with the tighter coil curl,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: we have been straightened our hair for so many years.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: So information was the key. She needed to know that
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: her hair is beautiful. She needed to know that her
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: hair is special, and she needed to be lined up
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: with the right products that are gonna make her hair
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: do all the wonderful things that it can do. And
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I think that's why information was so key. You know,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: my sister and I spent a lot of time in
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: our kitchen table mixing, and we're also hairstylus. But we
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: realized that our work was not finished and that we
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: did had to we did have to educate and just
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: take it, you know, rewind and just start from scratch
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: and just kind of let people know or let them
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: know that this is what we were working with and
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: you have this kind of hair and here are the
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: products that work. That's with that. And I think that
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: that communication that you spoke about was really it was
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: it was the foundation for the relationship between Miss Jesse's
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: and our customers. Okay, then you know I'm playing with
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: your website, right, So I'm just going around just clicking
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: the navigation and everything, just reading about your story and
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: just talking about your story to the public and that
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: everybody know. I'm in all of Miko Branch and the
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Miss jesse original brand. Then I came across the curl Bar,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Miss Jesse's curl Bar. What is that? That looks so cool?
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Boot By Appointment down in fourth Lawida there, Florida. See,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: that wasn't on none of my questions. That sounds so
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: that sounds hot right there. Tell me about the Miss
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: jesse curl Bar that's down there. I'm assuming it's the
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: only location is down in fourth Lawida, Florida. Correct, Well,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: ra Sean, Mis Jessy's Curlbar was born out of Miss
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Jesse's Salon and MS Salon was actually created and our
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: brownstone in the best of Cybus and section of Brooklyn,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: which at the time was known as the hood where
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: we built our business. Yes, that is where we built
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: our business and that became our R and D in
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: our testing ground or products that work out here in
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: the market. So part of this Jestine's heritage is the salon.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: It's where we connected with our customer and it's where
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: we figure out what products are necessary to be put
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: out here. We don't. We try our best not to
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: come out with products just to put them on shelves
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: to make money. Although we are in the business to
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: ultimately make money, we use that salon to really really
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: understand what's needed. So, whether we're in brook the New York,
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: whether we're in our soho in New York, or whether
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: we're in Florida, Miss Jessie's always loved having a place
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: for someone can come in if they hear done, if
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: they want you. So now we're in Fort Lauda Dale,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: so it is by appointment only. If you wanted to
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: come and get your hair done, you can. But right
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: now most of the states and now in Steed in Florida,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: due to what's going on, absolutely absolutely a little break. Well.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: I'm just telling you again again that's why you're successful. See,
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you this. If this if rus Sean
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: McDonald sounds like he's bragging on Nicole Branch. I am.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: I am because here she's telling you right now, the
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: salon allows her to find out if what they're delivering
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: is the real deal. Right there. There's a lot of
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: companies out They just put stuff on the shelf. They
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: don't know if it's working. They don't know if if
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: a customers say, oh, that birds my hair, but there's
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: nothing for my hair. They know for a fact, they
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: know they understand their brand. And before we get off
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: the call, I want to know, because you are a
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: brand master, you are a trend setter over the last
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: few years. What have you noticed the beauty hair care
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: industry trends and changes over the last years. Minko, Well,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: you know what, I'm not just saying it because I'm
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: miss Jesse's. But you know now he is preferred. You
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: could brag on my show. You could brag on my show.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: I've already been bragging on you for two breaks. See it.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: You see it on Olfra, you see it on Michelle Obama,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: you see it everywhere Nashville. Here, curly here is preferred.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: It's how people want to express themselves. It's no longer
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: you know, a beauty idea to wear straight. Here we're
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: embracing all that God gave us naturally, and that is
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: the trend, and that trend is here. It's not a trend,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: it's actually here to stay. And people are just really
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: becoming more and more pleased with what God gave them naturally.
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: And Miss Jesse is just so happy to be a
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: part of it all. There you go. See, I knew,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: I knew I could just turn that key jets right
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: and you just start RadCasting the person that you are.
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: I would let you talk like that any time you
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: come on my show. Understand you are a blessing. You
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: are a visionary. You are what we need to hear,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: both men and women in this world, all diverse colors
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: and races that we have about that. You need to
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: understand that through hard work, believing in the dream, committed
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: to information, doing the work, and willing to test your
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: product and make sure the customer really understands your product
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: and be willing to change if they say, can you
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: make it a little adjustment. That's why you have so
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: many different types because you listen to your customer, Miss Jesse.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: I say, Miss Jesse, but I know your name Nicole Branch,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: you come on my show any time. I really appreciate
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: you spending time and allow me to tell your story
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: on money making conversations. Thank you so much for sean

- 1:23:21Speaker 1: My next guest is on the phone. She is an actress.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: You have seen her in the following movies. I'm leaving
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: out a few, but I just want to mention these
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: movies House Party, Skin, Deep, Think, Oil, Sister Acting, Baby Boy.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: She's a TV producer, life coach, fitness guru. I need
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: that conversation, Philanthis. She's an HBCU grad with a psychology
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: and chemistry degree from Spellman College right in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: She is currently appearing on the UMC series Stuck with You,
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: Please work on the moneymaking Conversation. A J. Johnson, Hi,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: Hasan how are you? Thank you for having me? Well?
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Thank you. I knew that bringing you on the show
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: you were gonna come with the energy you know you
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: can't have you can't be a fitness gree and be
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: laid back. You know that that wouldn't work. Well, well,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I'll tell you what you mean. Some people are some
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: people have a very way back approach to fitness. I
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: think I'm just fueled with my passionately just reached from
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: my better self, and every day is another opportunity to
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: do that. So I'm listening. I'm excited with my eyes
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: pop open. And you get me. First thing in the morning,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: you get me fresh good. No, no afternoon energy, no
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: late afternoon energy. The day is beating you up. I'm
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: getting your earl. That's that's great, agent, And let's just
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: go back about you. Like I mentioned in your credits
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: about being an HBCU grant and I'm always promoting HBCUs
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: on my I do a big event in Wilmington, Della
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: in a HBCU week and I'm gonna do a lot
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: of more things and twenty one and bo because I
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: feel the brand of HBCUs are just just not recognized
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: for the contributions that they make incorporate. They get recognized
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: for the athlete, and you get recognized for the mauching bands.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Was the impact of Spellman had on you, has has
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: had on your carein is having on your life. Oh man, listen,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: and you know we've just celebrated our hundred and thirty
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: ninth UH anniversary. Founder's Day was this past weekend, and I,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: you know, I I did an interview with them as
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: part of our virtual celebration, and I even, it's funny
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: you asked me that, because the first thing I said was,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: you know, Spellman actually became the most valuable for me
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: once I left, because I had no you know, I
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: had no idea that what I was embarking on was
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: not only an amazing education, but it was a global,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: lifelong network. Um oh yeah, yeah. I mean I've been
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: blessed to travel the world and I have been no
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: place where there's not been somebody affiliated, an alumni, something
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: wanting to go a future student with Spellman. And it's
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: a built in sisterhood. It's a sorority on its own,
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: so you know, and it's never it's never ending. You know,
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: we've got all the alumni from from all those years ago,
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: but then every year, we know, Spewman takes in at
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: least another plast of five dynamic women. So the sisterhood
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: continues to grow. And you know when you when you
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: get to Spellman freshman year, literally freshman week, um in
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: the freshman welcome, the the advisors and the staff say,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: you know, choosing Spellman is choosing to change the world.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: And so for me that has been a life mantra,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: you know, in terms of what can I do to
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: make it different? And and and that's that's my whole passion.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: It's part of my self purpose and so that comes
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: from Spellman. Now, unfortunately lost my mom my, my literally
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: the first two months of my freshman year, and so
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: Spellman also raised me. You know, I was there the
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: early the early part of my adulthood. So the morals
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: and values of Spellman again, the sisterhood, the appreciation and
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: um and uh and value of education and what it
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: can do for you in society, I mean, all of it.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: I can't speak enough. And that continues to go. It's
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: not just like I went to Spellman and I'm I'm
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: an alumni. I mean I talked about someone all the time.
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: Like I said, I may be doing a motivational speech,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: or working for a corporation or on a movie set
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: or in Ghana, Africa, or philanthromy You know, every walk,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: every lane of my life, I constantly speak about and
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: have a conversation about the amazingness that spellment is well.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: I love that the tone. That's that's the key because
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: whenever I go through our interview, I've been fortunate on
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: this show, the interview over five hundred people since I
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: launched the show, and I know, and I always go
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: through the resumes of the bios and when I see
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: the HPCU, I pull it out because that's a nugget.
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: I gotta live and pull that nugget out. And so
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: so because people write because a lot of schools take
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: credit for your success because they're all Amgatan sing that
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: you might have went to a white institution or a
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: traditional institution that's non HPCU. Because Hollywood is dominant. I know,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I'm I'm based in Hollywood. I've been in Hollywood's namely two.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: I know the amount of executives, amount of writers, the
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: amount of producers, the amount of actors and actresses that
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: are really dominating the landscape, just like you and the
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: entertainment arena. And that goes over into music or your
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: rap or your music producer. It's really amazing what HBCUs
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: are doing. And I always like to point that out
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: and let people know that how inspired and how how
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: just you just just you, I just like I just
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: turned on the waterfalls and you started talking. Boom. I know,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: I'm glad you. I'm glad you mentioned all those different
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: avenues because I think not just Spellman or more House
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: or the a U Center, but any one of the HBCU.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: What I think happens is because all of them are
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: such an intimate environment. Um, I think you get another
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: level of attention and guidance then you would at any
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: other institutional university or even an IVY league. You know,
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: absolutely right, and got accepted to Princeton, Yale, Harvard. But
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: I just you know, I was drawn to the intimacy
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: and the level of special that someone was showing me
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: they weren't and wanted to help me be. You can't
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: beat that, you know, you can't beat that awesome. I'm
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: talking to a J. Johnson TV producers, film Star Life coach,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: fitness guru. Uh, let's talk about that fitness guru because
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, you know, a couple of
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: years I had Morris chest out on the show and yeah,
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: the book of the show, and uh, and he had
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: a fitness book out and weight lost book out, and
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I you know me, I try to invest into my
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: guests if they give a book, I'm gonna read your book.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: Agent when if you ever have a book come out,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: he sent you Rushan McDonald. Rushan will read your book
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: before he interviews you. None of that what is about?
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: None of that vague question stuff. So nine pounds, he said,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: it was the ten pounds and ten days. I lost
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: seven days, I lost nine pounds and in seven days
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: and and so I, um, excuse me, ten days, excuse me,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: I apologize. Ten days I lost nine pounds and I
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: have lost sixteen pounds total since then. And it has
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: changed my life, and it's changed my clothes. You know,
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: my waistline thirty three and a half. I can brag
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: about that now, especially when I talk to my friends.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: I'm bragging. I'm bragg I'm not I'm not not a
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: j I'm just I'm not you. Now, we're gonna get
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: to you in these apps in a minute. Now, I'm
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: not you. But your boy can say he's thirty three
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: and a half waistline. So how important you know? Because
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: we see you what the what the pandemic and how
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: it's impacting you know, the African American community and I
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: die it so you know I died comes up again.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: How we're impacted about when when crisis, especially a medical
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: crisis come out. How what is your role as be
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: of being a fitness gruel when it comes not only
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: just to you, to everybody in general, but also for
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: the African American community. I you know, I believe that
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: the reason why I was given the business because I
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: didn't pursue a business that I didn't pursue creating the
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: aj Zone as a business entity. At first, I believe
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: I was called to to share my knowledge. You know.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: When I first came into the game as an actress,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: um A a degree from an HBCU wasn't part of
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: the qualification, but who I was as a result of
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: my degrees and my science interest was a big part
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: of me. And so when I spoke to going to
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: sleep as I pursued acting, I said, you know, I've
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: got to do something. There's no reason why I have
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: all this knowledge. I'm now living what I've learned. It's
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: caused a major difference in my life. My like you said,
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: my appearance, my life, my energy, my attitude. I've got
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: to you know, I've got to share what I know.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: And so, you know, again after losing parents to one
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: of the big diseases, I feel like it's it's it's
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: my purpose, passion and calling to share information to save
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: other people. You know, my dad said, literally, my dad
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: said before he passed, like you you've got to share
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: what you know. He's like, you know, you may not
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: be able to save me, but there's so many people
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: who will benefit from what you know and who you are,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: and know that you're an example of living in it's
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: not many we had. You have to continue to be
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: an example. And unfortunately I lost him, but after I
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: did Baby Boy in two thousand two, but his words
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: stuck with me and so for me, you know, it
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: needs everything and even now you know the fact that
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: we are we are a quarantine because of this, the
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: COVID nineteen and as an African American culture and African culture,
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: you know, I'm very involved. Yeah, yeah, yeah, this whole
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: high blood pressure, diabetes, um asthma, obesity. You know, it's
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: it's not anything new. You know a lot of people
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: are receiving the high numbers of African Americans suffering and
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: dying because of our health risks. As this is some
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: type of new thing. It's not. This was inevitable because
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: we have not yet taken seriously our health prospective. And
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: that's not a fingerpoint. That just means I have more
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: work to do, you understand. Absolutely. That's why I actual
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: when I hear those all those those news articles coming out,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: it's almost like false hype to me, because because the
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: reality is, we have not changed our diet. We're not
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: making an effort. We all over obeast. You know, cholestero.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: You could throw cholesterol in there too, along with the hyby,
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: the diabetes, the poor eating fried foods, greasy foods, you know,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: just just just just so, when I see that pop
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: on the screen, it's like, Okay, if you just took
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: away this pandemic, we still will be dying on the
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: great Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you said that,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: because I want to be able to say that, and
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: I want to shout until every mountaintop I get take
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: away the pandemic. The pandemic just got added on to
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: letting us know and and re renewing our understanding of
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: the position we're in. Because, like you said, take it away,
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: we still are at a higher risk of illness and
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: death because of all of those pre existing health conditions that,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: mind you, a lot of them can be reversed. Doctors
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: have told many people I I consult um thirty minutes
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: for thirty dollars available at the ajon dot com and
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: our store. So I do consultations across the globe all day,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: every day, and all I'm hearing is, well, the doctor
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: told me to walk a little bit more every day,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: and I may not need this half a pill I'm taking.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: Or the doctor told me to decrease my processed food,
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: or the doctor told me to drink more water, and
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I probably don't even need medication. And I can't tell you, embarrassingly,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: how many people don't even listen to those little changes,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: you know. Scary. I did pastor John Gray on book
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: of John Gray's show on own and he was in
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: the hospital two weeks later. He didn't even need insulin
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: for his diabetes. And all I did was changes food.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: All I did was pumped law suits and vegetables through
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: protein shake smoothie. I've changed a lot of his nutritional
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: lifestyle and in two weeks, not only was he out
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: of the hospital, but he was also insiling. It's doable
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: and people need to believe. People need to believe you
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: can survive these diseases. You can put putt, get less
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: medication for high blood pressure. You can lower your A
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: one C if you're diabetic. It is possible. And if
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: we're going to change our statistics across the world, we
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: have to change how we live. Awesome. You are incredible.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: That is why I built the only show Good Morning.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Like I tell you, you came with the energy a
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: j zone dot com. She's preaching from a j zone
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: dot Com. We'll be back to more. We're gonna talk
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: about Ghana. I gotta talk about two V show on
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: U mc more with incredibly fit, the incredibly passionate, the
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: incredibly amazing A J. Johnson. Hi, Just Rashan McDonald and
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: you're listening to money making conversations. My guest today is
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: A J. Johnson. Um this talented, uh fair passion that
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: she's a TV producer, she's a life coach. You go
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: to a J zone dot com and you can get consultation,
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: thirty mini consultations, fitness, Gurule, philanthropists and uh We talked
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: very heavily about her HBCU background with Spellman College in Atlanta, Georgia,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: but she cannot get away from what she's been known
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: and has brought us international and national and domestic recognition
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: About your abilities acting A J. Johnson, How you know,
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: how did you get into acting? You know, because your
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: degree is psychology and chemistry. Well, I've always been whatever.
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: First of all, there was a long part well because
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: there's so many different directions that I was trying to
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: figure out which what I was going to go in. Uh,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: you know, and we're all the time things. I mean
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: we were in general. I would tell you the whole
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: big but you know the quick, the quick version of it,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: if that. Um, I've always been passionate about performing in
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: the arts. I mean, I grew up performing Arefa Franklin
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: songs at our our Eastern dinners, you know, our Thanksgiving
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: and so that led to my parents putting me in
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: um performing classes, dancing, acting, modeling, and I loved it.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: And even though I grew up in an academic household,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: you know, my parents went to HBCUs. My dad was
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: to Howard, my mom went to Chainey, my brothers went
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: to went to higher education. Institutions. I knew that that
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: was the first thing I knew I was never gonna
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: be able to just go into a career of the arts.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: And I'm so glad my parents didn't allow it because
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: again because of my experience of Spellman, the confidence it
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: built in me. Um, you know, the the other dynamic
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: of my life. I wouldn't have the level of a
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: healthy living business like the AJ Zone had I not
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: gone to school. Um just but not not because of passion,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: but just because it gives me the credibility that a
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: lot of other people in healthy living and fitness do
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: not have. And so I just believe that acting was
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: something I thought I was going to try. Even my
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: dad said, go to l A, get it out of
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: your system, go dance in some music videos, go get shift,
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: and get your butt back to med school. And literally
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: in the first yeah, in the first thirty days of
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: landing in Hollywood, I started working. I was doing bit roles,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: guest starring Jamie Fox um Fresh Prince. At the time
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: I ran into Keena and I VWA and that run
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: in landed me the choreography job for a Living Color
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: as a fly girl, I mean, And then of course
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: that landed me the role and even being considered for
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: house party, So you know, it was something that I
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: was exploring of. You know, don't be afraid check all
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: your options, fuel your passions. As just something that happened
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: to hit and I loved it. So it's really a story.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: I mean, the bottom line is for for anyone listening,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: I feel like the real true story is don't tuck
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: yourself out of what you love, even if it's a
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: completely different lane than what you feel like you've been
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: prepared for. I was supposed to go to med school.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: I studied at an amazing four year institution to go
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: to as premy but I had another passion, and here
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: we are, Yes, you are what My degree is in mathematics.
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: I work for IBM before I decided to pursue a
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: career as a stand up comedian. And so I totally
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: agree because sometimes you can always tell people you know,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: people will point you in the right direction, but that
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: doesn't mean you have to live that point, live that
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: direction they're pointing. You have to wake up one day
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: and say, what is it making me happy? What is
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: motivating me to get out of bed? The reason you
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: enthuseda this morning and talking so strong because you you
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: like your life. You're doing what you want to do
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: in your life, and a lot of people don't do that.
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: A lot of people don't do that. And let me
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: just add this, if you think about it, you know,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: being an entertainment or even just loving that degree of entertainment,
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: but also being armed with my degrees and my passion
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: for science, it helps me create a whole different, perfect
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: for me if I can say that, um perfect for
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: me brand of healthy living. You know, I could be
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: a typical doctor in a white lab coat or a researcher.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: But you know, I decide that that there was a
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: way that I wanted to and possibly could do this
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: this medicine thing. And so my lane is just different
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: than the way somebody else does. But but interestingly enough,
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I still have friends that are at CDC. I have
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: friends that are at the World Health Organization. You know,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: I still have friends in the scientists. So when something
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: like this happens, like this pandemic, I have friends to
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: go to get the real information. I'm not just sitting
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: around watching TELEVI right right, like me, like me, let's
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: get on and even sharing that information. It's like, you know,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: I've been put in position that I think is amazing, right, absolutely,
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: and I respected and I appreciate the Irban Movie Channel
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: the show Stuck with You, the relationship show. First of all,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: the title is stuck with You. I love you know
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: because it has you know, you know it's because we've
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: said that it can like lead you to believe that
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: it's just the best I'm gonna do. Uh, do you
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: have any other options? You're stuck. I'm stuck with you.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: So that title, first of all attracted me to it.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: What attracted you to the series and to get into
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: the characters and have made it. But first of all,
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: it's all about you A. J. Johnson. You know, nobody
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: else stuff with you, chel, it's all about you MC channel.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: Well I was. I was attracted to the same thing, honestly,
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: And you know, going a little bit deeper into what
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: the story is, it's exactly that, like what happens behind
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: the scene and these high profile celebrity relationships that may
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: not be based in foundation and love, honor and cherished
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: for death thy part. And so it may be a
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: career move, it may be what's holding the bank account together?
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: And if so, what are the choices that have to
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: be made in living that lifestyle, and so Stuff with
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: You kind of does a nice romantic comedy perspective and
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: view intimately into a few relationships that are in that position.
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: You know, does it work? How does it work? As
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: you continue in a relationship that seems to be on
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: the outside so avazing and hashtag relationship goals, as we
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: say on social media, but when it's really not that
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: on the inside. What is that about? So their character's
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: name is Stephanie, right, Yes, I love Stephanie. I love
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: and Stephanie Stefanie. Stephanie is the best friend of Candice,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: who was the lead actress who's in the relationships to
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: best friends, as well as the publicist for UM and
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: it's Tammy Townsend does an amazing job with Candice, and uh,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: all the actors are amazing, But Stephanie is the publicist
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: and best friend of the lead couple. UM, so that
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: that wasn't a stretch, you know, publicist, you know you
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: wouldn't that that was a world you live in on
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: a daily basis. Marketing and Brandon, so they really didn't
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: have to think too much about being a publicist. Well
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: that's true, but because I've never actually played one on FELM.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: I actually had a great time using my marketing center.
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: The business savvy, yeah you know, and even just you know,
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: I have a great publicist, you know, um sheth Armstrong
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: of pr work and you know she amazing, And so
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: I patterned Stephanie after a lot of Patrisa's no nonsense.
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: She spells it out. Here's what we're gonna do. I mean,
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Katrinsas we're ever telling me what I don't want to
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: do something, she's saying, no, let me tell you why
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: we're gonna do it. That from the employed, that kind
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: of attitude and energy and expertise in the Stephanie and
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: we had a blast which I which plays out in
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: the in the show on the loan basis. Now, when
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: you when you do a show like this, it's called
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: I would tell I always talking about living a balanced
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: life on this show because I feel that you can
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: focus on your career. Because right now we're talking about
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: we talked about the fitness, we talked about we're talking
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: about the acting, but the philanthropy side of you, which
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: is so strong, and it's called return to Ghana. Tell
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: us about your involvement there, tell us about the importance
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: of your participation and what is the purpose? You know.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: I've got to tell you that I'm really excited about
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: adding philanthropists onto my resume. And it's coming pretty late
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: in my life. But it's not that I've never done
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: Sharon will work. I always have been involved and have
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: been of service. Um Fellman preachers that I'm a member
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: of dult statement data so already incorporated. Come on, just
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: cute talking to you. Come on, Oh my goodness, I mean,
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: you know the life of servants. He was sliding that
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: information in a j UK slide. No information. I'm a
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: member of Death the Statement, thetus. Yeah you know. I
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: mean then you know more than anything, you know. That's
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: so so when I went to Ghana. I went to
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: Ghana just because at first I had never been to
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: the continent. Um Full Circle Festival. A group of Hollywood
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: personality that were Ghani and American were going, and so
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: I said, listen, you know, the best way for me
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: to expore Africa is with people I know, you know,
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: on the level of travel that I love, and let
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: me see what happens. I had no idea that Ghanna
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: was going to embrace me and I would embrace Ghana
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: like it like it happened in two thousand nineteen. It
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: was the Year of Return. And when I realized that
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: returning to Africa in the Year of Return had to
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: mean something special, I started praying and asking God what
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: was the job he would have me do? Because I
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: already live on a on a space of nothing's random,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: nothing's coincident. And so I started working with the Bord
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: of Tourism. I started connecting and doing projects with the
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: President's office. And now excuse me, now I'm connected to
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: and I'm doing projects with the U. S. Embassy and Ghana.
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: A matter of fact, I was all my way to
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: Ghana when this quarantine hit. I can't wait for my
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: work to be to be rescheduled. I'm sitting here staring
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: at my Ghana suitcases right now. I never oh Gaki,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I got two big old suitcases staring at me right
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: now in my living world, but I refused to unpack.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: I was literally days away from my trip, and I
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: know that when this pandemic quarantine is over, I'm getting
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: on a plane that I'm out of here. But you know,
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I also a shot off for Ghana because they're they're
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: doing an amazing job with this whole pandemic. Um, but
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: you know that there's still a third wall country and
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: they need help from their brothers and sisters, you know,
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: across the world. But I love you know, I've got
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: a project that I created car I and my Sister's
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: Keeper where I'm connecting successful women with some of the
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: Astracan female teenagers just to be you know, um mentors
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Global mentors. Mentoring is very important, isn't that a lot
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: of people are just understands that. But it's so important,
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: and I hear it so strong because I'm gonna I'm
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: gonna just stop you all this. You know, you said, Hey, Richard,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: I'm really I got into being a philanthropy late in life.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: But your voice and I know about your background, okay,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: you have in the mentoring to me is another form
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: of being a philanthropist, you know, helping people, reaching back,
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: you know, health wise. See it, don't let that title
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: stop you from being the brand and the machine you've
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: been all your life, a motivator and a life changer,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: giving people advice on how to live the right life,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: the best life, the better life. And so Ghana has
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: just embraced you with a bigger country now. So but
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: you've been you don't just walk into being doing what
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: you're doing in Ghana. That has been inceded in you
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: by your parents and then spell when nurtured it, and
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: when you walked out into the real world, you didn't
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: allow you didn't lose balance, and you maintain that balance.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: And so Ghana's kind of like a part of the
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: legacy that you've always been building on. That's all I
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: gotta say about that. I don't, I can't, I can't
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: I bring you. One of the reasons I brought your
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: own the show was because you do live a three
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: sixty life, and because you live a three secrets and
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: you've always lived a three sixty life. It's important people
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: to understand how and how you've been impacting the them
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: domestically and now the world well that you know, and I,
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: like I said, I feel like it's all on purpose,
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: you know, even so so so okay, So now we
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: add Banna and a whole another continent and country. You know.
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: Even this past holiday, I went to Ivy Coast. I
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: planned to see Senegal before this year's over. So I'm
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: expanding my existence on the continent and learning more and
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: more what what help I can be. But I just
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: think that it's also awesome speaking a three sixty now entrepreneurially,
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: I'm acting again with you step be four. But but
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: the way that I want to do it, you know,
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: now it's no longer the thing. It's a thing in
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: my life and that and that's what I wanted, not
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: even knowing to call it that, I wanted it to
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: be less stressful. I wanted it to be more fun. Um, Hollywood,
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: it's filled with a lot of pressures. People don't People
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: see the light camera action to finished products, products, and
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: they don't realize that we go through to even land
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: the job, do the job, you know, hopefully still you know,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: not get edited out of the job. I mean, it's
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: a lot of stress and pressures. But now it's turned
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: into fund for me as my travel world doing everything
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: else I'm doing. So I like what you said. I've
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: never said that way before. I like a three sixty
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: life that I'm doing back from you and give you
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: credit for j Please please leave this about what you're
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: accomplishing in life, what you have accomplished in life. You know,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I always tell people look back into your team, look
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: back in your early twenties, that life that was being
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: shaped for you. There is the life that you will
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: live and make money with in your forties, fifties and sixties,
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: and that's what you're doing. So we we get so
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: focused on the immediacy that the president, the current what's
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: happening was putting that check in your bank account. But life,
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: it's about how you feel when you wake up. Your
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: energy as a blessing for my show, it's a blessing
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: for my listeners, you know. And I just wanted to
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: share that information on the show. The aj AJ Zone
