- 0:00And once freaking again, we see another Florida
- 0:03team, number one in the Cup Finals, and number
- 0:07two lifts Florida's family to keep it in the
- 0:10Sunshine State. Down here stateside, where it
- 0:14fucking belongs! Fourth time in the past six
- 0:18years, a Florida team has won the Stanley Cup.
- 0:21Because we just get so many different, like,
- 0:23I know, I'm happy to keep it stateside, but that's
- 0:27true to anybody else other than the state of
- 0:29Florida. Please. Let's get a break from a little
- 0:32bit. From Florida, from Edmonton, from Vegas
- 0:36always making the Final Four, Dallas always making
- 0:39the Final Four. Was it the last seven Cups eight
- 0:43Atlantic Division teams have represented in the
- 0:46Stanley Cup? You're like, wait a second. Where'd
- 0:49the eighth team come from? Yeah, we know. Tampa
- 0:51Bay, Montreal. Can't forget that one. Still the
- 0:55weirdest format of... Yeah, it was just so weird.
- 1:00I mean, just to hold that whole North division,
- 1:01making the Canadian division a whole separate
- 1:04from everybody else was what screwed everything
- 1:06up and made it weird. Like, it's understandable
- 1:09because Canada is their own separate entity from
- 1:11the States. So, like, obviously with the whole
- 1:13pandemic, you know, everybody's going to treat
- 1:16it differently. But honestly, at the time, it
- 1:18was definitely entertaining and interesting.
- 1:20But it's just looking at it. Just how it was,
- 1:24we could have seen. You could have seen Winnipeg
- 1:26taking on Dallas, because both of them are at
- 1:28the Central. We could have seen... I mean, I
- 1:31guess the only way it could not have happened
- 1:32would have been probably the Metro. I think that's
- 1:35the only way you would have seen, stereotypically,
- 1:37the same division playing against each other.
- 1:42I guess you could have had maybe Pittsburgh -Carolina.
- 1:45I think Carolina might have been in the Central
- 1:46that year. Yeah, they were. So you could have
- 1:48possibly seen Pittsburgh -Carolina, Philly -Carolina.
- 1:51I know Philly, I think, was Rob Robin. I think
- 1:52they were top four in the league that year. Yeah,
- 1:54they... They were top four in the East at the
- 1:58time. Either way, those are dark times. Those
- 2:03are dark times. So maybe in the West you may
- 2:06not have been able to see two from the same?
- 2:07Well, Pacific, you could have done Vancouver.
- 2:11Yeah, Vancouver and any of the California teams
- 2:13or Vancouver. Vegas, you know. Any of those guys.
- 2:18Yeah, it's very possible. Any division could
- 2:21have seen two from the same. Same division playing.
- 2:24Yeah. Yeah, it's their typical same division
- 2:25in that Cup final. Yeah, I mean, the last six
- 2:31years we've seen, what, Tampa, Tampa, Colorado,
- 2:34Vegas, now Florida, Florida. Yep. I mean, each
- 2:37of the last six years, Florida has represented
- 2:39the Stanley Cup. So, I mean, yeah, but Florida
- 2:44did the opposite of Tampa Bay, though. Tampa
- 2:46Bay went back -to -back and then lost their third.
- 2:47Yep. Florida lost their first and now have gone
- 2:50back -to -back, so. I wonder how they're going
- 2:52to end up doing next year. I think it all depends
- 2:53on how many of these guys they're able to bring
- 2:55back, how many guys re -sign, how many guys are
- 2:58gone. So, no, they have a couple. I know Aaron
- 3:00Eckblad's going to be an unrestricted free agent.
- 3:03Also, Stan Bennett's going to be an unrestricted
- 3:04free agent. Brad Marchand. I'm not too sure about
- 3:07Seth Jones. I know he came over in the trade.
- 3:09I'm not too sure how much slipped on his contract.
- 3:12I believe there's one more. I don't think Barkov
- 3:15is yet. But no, I'm pretty sure there's at least
- 3:18one more on that team. supposed to possibly be
- 3:21gone here. Seth Jones is good until the 29 -30
- 3:25season. Oh, he's good until the 29 -30 season?
- 3:35Yeah. Oh, damn. Okay. I think you should file
- 3:39a sign and really get an eight -year deal. Same
- 3:41thing with Kachuk through the 29 -30 season.
- 3:46I knew Kachuk wasn't close. I knew Kachuk just
- 3:48signed. Brian Harden, I'm pretty sure, isn't
- 3:54good until like 29. I think Verheyen is. Verheyen
- 3:59might be the one that's close. I think he has
- 4:01like two or three more years or somewhat. If
- 4:07I'm guessing. I know we already discussed this,
- 4:14but Ekblad. Sasha Barkov is on... Oh, he's under
- 4:19contract with Panthers to the 2030 -2031 season.
- 4:23Yeah, he must have just signed like last year
- 4:25then or two years ago. Like an eight -year deal
- 4:27or something. Actually, maybe. He's starting
- 4:31to get older. He's what, 29, 30 years old? I'm
- 4:34sorry, no, I'm wrong. Yeah, through the 2029
- 4:37season. Okay. Excuse me. Sam Bennett, I think
- 4:42they're probably going to do whatever they can
- 4:43to try to re -sign him. I think Bennett's going
- 4:45to try to... If not... I don't think we discussed
- 4:48this on recording last time, but I think we discussed
- 4:50this when we got together and watched what was
- 4:52it, Game 4? When we came here and watched Game
- 4:544? I think Boston would be a good place for Sam
- 4:57Bennett. Just that, their type of play style,
- 5:00just the whole, the way they play the game, I
- 5:02think his style of play would fit in with Boston
- 5:04very, very well. And they're obviously going
- 5:07to have the room to fit him with all these guys
- 5:09that they lost at the deadline. You know who's
- 5:11going to be a UFA this year? Sergey Roborovsky.
- 5:17That's okay, that is the other one. That's the
- 5:18other big name. Sergey Bobrovsky is... Obviously,
- 5:22you've got Vitek Vanacek as the number two right
- 5:24now. But, again, he's no Bob. He's no Bob. You've
- 5:28got to re -sign him after the way he played this
- 5:30season's playoffs, man. In my opinion, I still
- 5:33think he deserves a consummate on Sam Bennett.
- 5:35Not only this year, but the past three years,
- 5:38the Panthers... Not in the regular season, postseason,
- 5:42cup finals, whatever. He has played... Out of
- 5:45his fucking mind. I think he might have been
- 5:49out the first year against Vegas. I think that
- 5:52might have been why they lost. I could be wrong.
- 5:55I think that's why. I thought he was in there.
- 5:59Was he in there? I'm pretty sure that's why they're
- 6:01out of struggles. I'm pretty sure he was in there
- 6:04at one point. I knew he was hurt that year. At
- 6:09some point in the playoffs. I want to say that's
- 6:11when they had Spencer Knight in it. I want to
- 6:15say. I want to say Brokowski played. The 22 -23
- 6:22postseason, Brokowski played in 19 games, started
- 6:2818 of them, and went 12 -6. Maybe he did, sir.
- 6:33Majority of them. I mean. Maybe he played that
- 6:37first. Maybe he was out for that final is what
- 6:39I'm talking about. He only played 12 games. Just
- 6:47trying to do a little bit of research here. They
- 6:49did, well, 7, 12, 16, 21 games that postseason
- 7:02for the Florida Panthers. Because they had 7
- 7:04against Boston in that big upset, 5 against Tampa,
- 7:07or not Tampa, Toronto, the sweep against Carolina,
- 7:10and then game 5 against... So, like I said, 20...
- 7:15I forgot that already. Who played the other couple?
- 7:18I just forgot there wasn't Spencer Knight. Who
- 7:21else did they have had that year? Obviously Bobby
- 7:24Lee would have been long gone. He's been long
- 7:27gone. Oh, man. I can't remember who they're up
- 7:31to. I know they had one. Vinichuk wasn't there
- 7:33yet. I think he might have been still in Washington.
- 7:38Damn, yeah. Who did they have over there? I'm
- 7:43trying to think, but nothing's coming to mind.
- 7:46Someone else I think of is Bob and Knight. I
- 7:50think that's another one of those years where
- 7:51I think Vegas had six goalies on the ice for
- 7:54celebration that year. Just ridiculous, because
- 7:57they would have had Quick, and they would have
- 7:59had Hill, Samson, I think they had Samson, Thompson.
- 8:05Sergei, Spencer Knight was the backup. Because
- 8:09that was the year... They also had Eric Stahl,
- 8:12Rocco Gutis, Ryan Lomberg, Mark Stahl, Patrick
- 8:17Hornquist, Chris Tierney, Alex Lyon was that
- 8:21other goaltender that was in there. Lyon, okay,
- 8:23Lyon. That makes sense then. Yeah, the Florida
- 8:28Panthers this year, man, were just kind of new
- 8:30to when he was getting past them. After that
- 8:32third round, how they just absolutely manhandled
- 8:35Carolina and how good Carolina looked through
- 8:37the first two series. and they just did not have
- 8:41a single problem with him. I mean, I thought
- 8:43that everything was going to put up a little
- 8:45bit more of a fight. I really thought we might
- 8:46have seen a seven -game series there. Unfortunately,
- 8:50we didn't. They just did not show up. Just did
- 8:52not show up. Conor McDavid kind of very much
- 8:55did not show up in the finals this year. Yeah,
- 8:59so it was Alex Lyon who was in number two, so
- 9:02that's probably why. In that playoff run, Bobrovsky...
- 9:07All I'm getting is the same percentage, so Brobowski
- 9:10was a 9 .15 and Mayan was an 8 .88. Oof, yeah.
- 9:15So, very well, very well might have. Yeah. That's
- 9:21very, very upsetting now that the hockey season
- 9:23is officially over. Literally nothing to watch.
- 9:25No hockey whatsoever. No OHL, no minor leagues,
- 9:28no college hockey, even the PWHL obviously landed
- 9:32about a month ago. We got nothing to watch right
- 9:35now, man. The only thing we got excited for is
- 9:37the draft this upcoming weekend. And then free
- 9:40agency the following Monday, following Tuesday.
- 9:44That's about all we got for hockey content for
- 9:46a while. Which also means this is the last episode,
- 9:51officially, of Season 5 of the Buckbuster Podcast.
- 9:55Which is crazy to say. It literally feels like
- 9:58yesterday we recorded the last episode of Season
- 10:011. And now here we are, you know, four seasons
- 10:04later, you know, planning for season six to come
- 10:07up here, probably October time. And that's just
- 10:10the same thing. It's funny to think, like, how
- 10:12much we've all grown over it. Yeah, man, we say
- 10:17it every year. I think we say it in every season
- 10:18finale, but just, I wouldn't say professionalism.
- 10:22We're still very unprofessional. But when it
- 10:24comes to the way we speak and act around each
- 10:27other, it's definitely unprofessional. I think
- 10:29the way we handle things, the way we go into
- 10:31each week trying to plan things is definitely
- 10:33more planned out than it was. Nine out of ten
- 10:36times, at least, we still have at least an idea
- 10:38of what we want to talk about going into an episode.
- 10:40Back then, we literally just would show up that
- 10:42night, wing it, do research an hour before we
- 10:45hit record, bullshit for an hour with the testing
- 10:49on, and then we'd finally start recording. It
- 10:51would take us, all together, it would take us
- 10:53probably three and a half to four hours to record
- 10:55an hour and ten minute episode. Now here we are.
- 10:58We hit record and maybe these days hit pause
- 11:02once or twice during an episode and get an hour
- 11:05and a half done in an hour and 45 minutes. Which
- 11:07is crazy. Colin's got another blind ranking for
- 11:13us here. Bring that back from what we did a couple
- 11:15months ago. I was just trying to do a little
- 11:20research on our conversation earlier. Mayan did
- 11:24see some ice time in the cup final when Bob got
- 11:28pulled in game two in a 7 -2 loss. Okay. So that's
- 11:32the only time Lyon got some action. So Bob was
- 11:36in for that 9 -3 final loss? Oh, wow. Damn. They
- 11:40were like, yeah, we're just going to keep you
- 11:41in, Bob. I know. Salvage whatever little confidence
- 11:43you have left. Actually, there was one more thing
- 11:45I wanted to talk about about the finals. So I
- 11:48saw something with, like, comparing Pittsburgh's
- 11:53back -to -back in 16 -17, Tampa's... 20 and 21,
- 11:58and then obviously now Florida's 24, 25. Who
- 12:04do you think was overall the better dynasty of
- 12:07those three? Not Tampa because of the bubble.
- 12:16That Stanley Cup doesn't count. Their team in
- 12:2021 was really good, though. I have to say Florida
- 12:23because... They were unstoppable all season of
- 12:28these two years. They were just nobody. It feels
- 12:31like that's a team you did not want to play.
- 12:33If you were trying to play for a playoff spot,
- 12:35you did not want to go and have to play that
- 12:36because you're not going to win. You're going
- 12:37to end up missing the playoff spot. They beat
- 12:40the shit out of every team they played pretty
- 12:41much in the first three rounds. I mean, last
- 12:42year I think the first round when they were kind
- 12:44of the – I think they were the wild card last
- 12:46year when they barely beat Boston. No, that was
- 12:49– Or was that the first round? Oh, yeah, that
- 12:51was the 22 -23 when they lost. Last year and
- 12:56this year, they've just been unstoppable. There's
- 12:58never been a time where you think, oh, they might
- 13:01lose this. You do not want to count them out.
- 13:04Here's the thing. I feel like I can make a pretty
- 13:07good counter -argument with the Penguins. Because,
- 13:10like, granted, at the beginning of the 15 -16
- 13:13season, after, you know, we had the coaching
- 13:15changeover to Mike Sullivan. That's what I'm
- 13:17saying. Just because we were not that good. I
- 13:20think we were the 7th or 8th place team in the
- 13:22first half of that season. They got hot at the
- 13:24right time, just like they did in 08 -09. They
- 13:27got hot at the right time. They picked up the
- 13:29right piece. Schultz, Hagman, Bonino came in.
- 13:32All the things you need to do to be good is fire
- 13:34coach midseason. And then they have the same
- 13:38pieces. They have the same team. Well, pretty
- 13:42much the same team carrying over from their 16
- 13:45Cup win to the 17 Cup win. Obviously, they already
- 13:49signed Matt Calder one year. The best team out
- 13:51of all six of those years might be the 2016 -2017
- 13:55Penguins. That would be the best team on paper,
- 13:58statistically, out of all those six. But if we're
- 14:00going with Dynasty as a whole, the two years
- 14:03as a whole, I might have to give it to Florida.
- 14:06I would just love to do, like, a mashup between,
- 14:10like, the prime team of the Penguins in 16 -17
- 14:14and the prime team of the Panthers in 23 -24,
- 14:18or 24 -25. Yeah. That second cup, the second
- 14:21of the back. I think they're, this year, they
- 14:23were so good. I know, just the deadline that
- 14:27they had, too, man. Like, they were already a
- 14:28good team, and at the deadline, they brought
- 14:30in Seth Jones, they brought in Brad Marchand,
- 14:33and there's one other one I think they brought
- 14:34in at the deadline, too. You just knew that they
- 14:38were saying, hey, we're going to go back to back.
- 14:40We're not fucking around here. That's exactly
- 14:42what they did. And if you want to fuck that around,
- 14:44you'll find out. We're just a far better team
- 14:46here. Easily. And the other question going into,
- 14:49I guess we'll find out here in the upcoming weeks,
- 14:51what's going to go on with Conor McDavid here?
- 14:53Because he's going into this. Coming up, this
- 14:55is going to be his final year of his contract.
- 14:56This 25 -26 season is the final year of his contract.
- 15:00What's going to be happening with him here? Are
- 15:02they going to... I don't know. Is he getting
- 15:04sick of it? Is he... You know, getting tired
- 15:06of carrying the team? I know in his conference...
- 15:10I mean, personally, I think Dreisaitl did more
- 15:12of the carrying in these playoffs than he did.
- 15:13I think so, too. Because I know he said in his
- 15:17conference interview after the finals, they were
- 15:20asking, are you... Because Edmonton can extend
- 15:23him on July 1st. He said he's going to wait to
- 15:29see what Edmonton is up, what they decide to
- 15:32do this offseason. beginning of the season, and
- 15:34I'll determine what he's going to do. I said
- 15:37they desperately need help on the defense, but...
- 15:39Go Tending! Go Tending! Go Tending on defense.
- 15:44You have two fucking pylons in the net, or two
- 15:46pieces of Swiss cheese in the net. You have three
- 15:48pylons on the back end, three or four pylons
- 15:51on the back end, and your number one defenseman
- 15:54is a number four defenseman at best. Brett Kulak
- 15:58and Darnell Nurse are your number one and two
- 16:00defensemen. That's a problem. That's a problem.
- 16:03See, the thing is, like, if they want to try
- 16:05to bring in some help on the back end or between
- 16:08the pipes, you can't really afford to give McDavid
- 16:10that much more money. Like, more than he's already
- 16:13making money. He's making $10 .5 million, $11
- 16:15million right now. $10 .5 million. Can you afford
- 16:17to make him, to give him that much more if you
- 16:19need help? Yeah. Well, he's got to realize, like,
- 16:22he's going to have to take a major pay cut if
- 16:24he wants, number one, if he wants to stay in
- 16:25Montana, and number two, if he wants to bring
- 16:28people in to help. Yeah. I mean, you've got the
- 16:31same situation over in Toronto with the... Well,
- 16:34what was the core four? Now that's going to change.
- 16:37But, like, you're spending a bunch of your money
- 16:39on your core people, your core four for your
- 16:42respective franchise. Imagine McDavid went to
- 16:43Toronto. Imagine Millander, Matthews, and McDavid.
- 16:48But let's stay on topic here for a second. When
- 16:50you have two of these big franchises spending
- 16:52a good chunk of your money on your respective
- 16:56core fours... You're going to run into these
- 17:00issues, and obviously it's a consistent thing
- 17:03now. Not consistent goaltending, defense that
- 17:07is lackluster in Hyotis, defense that is lackluster,
- 17:11and you fall short in probably some of the biggest
- 17:15stages, the highest pressure you're going to
- 17:19get in your respective markets. Toronto's fucking
- 17:22nuts. Their market's nuts. Their fans are nuts.
- 17:25Their Royals, fuck. Don't get me wrong. They're
- 17:28loyal as fuck. Steve Dangle, whatever he does,
- 17:31however long he's been around, he's been loyal.
- 17:34Empton, same kind of thing. But, like, they're
- 17:37so stupid when it comes to spending their money.
- 17:42I said they were stupid that they didn't go get
- 17:46a goaltender at the deadline. They were even
- 17:47asked, are you going to go get a goaltender?
- 17:50They're like, no, we're going to stick with what
- 17:52we got. And that's honestly what... I mean, I
- 17:55don't think Stolarz was the problem there in
- 17:57the playoffs. I think it's just the Maple Leafs
- 18:00being the Maple Leafs. In fact, if they honestly
- 18:02played anybody else other than Florida, I think
- 18:05they might have very easily went to the conference.
- 18:07It was four. I mean, the fact that they brought
- 18:10four in seven games, after losing five and being
- 18:13down three to two going into game six, they still
- 18:15had that confidence and enough push to survive
- 18:17that game six. Yeah, you can tell that Toronto
- 18:20was a different team this year. They really were.
- 18:25They were more confident going into these playoffs.
- 18:28They were like, hey, we know we have the team.
- 18:30This is our year. Let's go for it. My God, I
- 18:33hate using that phrase. This is our year. Like,
- 18:36no, okay, you're wrong. But that's a whole different
- 18:40rant. And, yeah, the biggest problem was Mitch
- 18:42Marner just, again, not showing up for the playoffs.
- 18:45Not only Mitch. I think Matthews did better than
- 18:48he has in years past. But he's still in the show.
- 18:50Nylander, I think, was one of the bigger carriers
- 18:52of this playoff. Only Nylander was your number
- 18:56one guy this postseason. I think so. Hands down,
- 18:59without debate. I know Matthew Nice was another
- 19:02one that was somewhat contributor -ish. Is he
- 19:07even going to be staying? Is somebody going to
- 19:08try to... I know there's rumors going around
- 19:10about possible offer sheets. That's right. He's
- 19:13on his last year of his rookie contract. That's
- 19:16the issue. They can have to sign him now or anybody
- 19:18else can swoop on and offer sheet him. I'll do
- 19:20this. I'd love it, but I don't think it's going
- 19:24to happen. I don't think they want to be focusing
- 19:26on defense here in this frame. They need to.
- 19:30Especially if LeTang might be... LeTang may or
- 19:33may not be back next year with his injury. With
- 19:35his surgery, I mean, who knows? It depends on
- 19:38his health. It depends on, you know, what we
- 19:40do with Eric Carlson. You know, if we end up
- 19:43dumping him off and even a good chunk of his
- 19:45contracts. I know there's some speculations.
- 19:48Regardless of what happens, we trade him. We're
- 19:50going to have to retain him. We are going to
- 19:54have to retain probably at least 25%. It's probably
- 19:59going to be 50%, but it's going to be a minimum
- 20:01of retaining 25 % of that salary. I mean, it's
- 20:04what? 10 and a half mil. Make it as much as a
- 20:06big date, which is fucking ridiculous. For a
- 20:0930, what, 36 -year -old? Four or five years ago,
- 20:11I'd have said, hell yeah, he deserves that, but
- 20:13the last two years, you know, wouldn't spend
- 20:15with Pittsburgh, you know. Any time between the
- 20:1715 -16 season, and I want to say the 22 -23 season.
- 20:22It's like his first one or two years with San
- 20:24Jose, yeah. Like, yeah, sure, pay him the money
- 20:27that he deserves, but now he doesn't deserve
- 20:28it. And, again, prove me wrong, Carlson. Like,
- 20:32go off and have a friggin' amazing year. Prove
- 20:35me wrong. I'm going to keep using this, like,
- 20:38in all, like, most sports, you know, that I consistently
- 20:41watch. Prove me wrong. I challenge you. Make
- 20:46me look like a jackass. I'm open to it. Knock
- 20:49my ego down a couple pegs, because right now
- 20:51it's at an all -time high. All right? It's going
- 20:56to be a very interesting free agency to say this
- 20:59year, especially. Florida's going to be one of
- 21:00those teams to look at. Boston's going to be
- 21:02one of those teams you want to watch. Pittsburgh,
- 21:04honestly, is going to be a team that's going
- 21:05to be in talks about who we can afford. Do you
- 21:08not agree? I'm sorry. Yeah, what do you have
- 21:10to say? Come here. Do you not agree with what
- 21:12I'm saying? What do you got to say? Who do you
- 21:14think needs to help out this year? Cheer for
- 21:15your cats, Otis. Yeah, we won. You're a Panthers
- 21:20fan now, aren't you? Who do you think needs some
- 21:22help in free agency, Otis? Oh, now you're fucking
- 21:25quiet. Now he doesn't know. Now he's put on the
- 21:27spot. He doesn't know. Your ego needs to be knocked
- 21:31out a couple pegs, huh? Who's yes? You want me
- 21:34to talk? I haven't been proved wrong yet, so
- 21:39thank you. Very much right, honestly. It's going
- 21:43to be interesting. Once trades open up here,
- 21:46I think that honestly might be a little crazier
- 21:49to start than the deadline for the agency might
- 21:51be. I think we're going to see a lot of big unexpected
- 21:54trades to happen. I mean, we've already seen
- 21:57a few trades go down. A couple of smaller ones
- 21:59I know. Andre Bercossi going over to Chicago
- 22:03is one of them. Mason Marshman going to Seattle.
- 22:06Seattle. Was that part of that trade? No. Yeah,
- 22:10it was that. Dallas and Seattle. I was going
- 22:13to say that. Chicago, Seattle. One going to Seattle
- 22:15is Joe Frino. Eric Hall going to Nashville, I
- 22:17believe, was the one I saw. Marshman, hold on,
- 22:23it's the Marshman trade. Yeah, Eric Holla going
- 22:24to Nashville. Yeah, so Nashville gets Eric Holla,
- 22:28Jersey receives Jeremy Hanzel, and a fourth rounder
- 22:32in 25. Hanzel is one of them. He's like a 29
- 22:36-year -old guy. He's been pretty much spent his
- 22:39whole career in the AHL and hasn't really shown
- 22:41many signs of making it up, so Nashville really
- 22:45did not give up that much to bring in Eric Holla,
- 22:47who's, what, 34, 35 now? I mean, honestly, didn't
- 22:50give up that much for, you know, a 35 -year -old
- 22:52veteran to help out that forward core that really
- 22:55struggled this past year, which we really thought
- 22:57Nashville was going to be a team to watch. I
- 23:00mean, what were the three names they brought
- 23:01in? Stevenson, Marcheseau, and Stamkos, right?
- 23:05Big disappointment. That's definitely one of
- 23:08the biggest flops this year with Nashville. Just
- 23:13watch. The one flop that I don't want to happen,
- 23:17but I can kind of see it happening, is the Johnny
- 23:20Tate signing in fucking Winnipeg. That's going
- 23:24to be insane once that officially goes through.
- 23:25I know it's one year, $2 million. Rumors are
- 23:29one year between one and two mil. Nothing's been
- 23:34announced yet. I'm guessing upwards of $5 .5
- 23:36to $6 million worth of bonuses, depending on
- 23:38personal performance, overall Jets team performance.
- 23:43And depending on how postseason goes as well.
- 23:47So, like, that could be big for someone like
- 23:49your veteran experience in Jonathan Tays from,
- 23:54you know, one dynasty in that Chicago team in
- 23:57the early 2010s. I think if he plays at least
- 23:5930 games, he gets, like, $550 ,000. And then
- 24:02every 10 games that he plays up to 60, I think,
- 24:05at least, then another $550 ,000. And then playoffs,
- 24:08I think if they win the first round and he plays
- 24:11at least 50 % of the games, it's another 550%.
- 24:13Same for second round and all the way to the
- 24:15finals. If he plays at least 50 % of all those
- 24:17games, they make it all the way to the cup final,
- 24:19and they win the cup final, I think he wins another
- 24:21million. It's something along those lines. I
- 24:23thought I had it here somewhere. But either way,
- 24:27once it's officially... Like, said and done.
- 24:31You know, dots the I's, crosses the T's. I almost
- 24:36said dots the T's and crosses the I's. Dots the
- 24:40I's, crosses the T's. Pacers hometown team, which
- 24:43would be nice. Maybe they'll get over the hump.
- 24:45Maybe Connor will actually, you know, do good
- 24:48in the playoffs. All the playoffs. But, you know,
- 24:52he's almost as big of a joker as Austin Matthews.
- 24:55But prove me wrong! Connor? Austin Matthews.
- 24:59No, Connor Hellebuck. Oh, okay. I thought you
- 25:02were talking about McDavid. I'm like, we're talking
- 25:03about Winnipeg. No, no, no, no, no. Yeah, you
- 25:05heard Connor. It's just Hellebuck versus McDavid.
- 25:09I'm just used to hearing, like, Helle, you're
- 25:11Hellebuck. I'm like, I'm not really used to hearing
- 25:12just his first name. I thought you said Connor
- 25:15Hellebuck. I was like, Kyle Connor did really
- 25:17well. No, he did. It's just goaltending half.
- 25:21That seems like it's a pretty big... Like, a
- 25:25pretty consistent storyline this postseason is
- 25:27your goaltending... Is your number one factor.
- 25:31Okay, now you disagree again? How much playoffs
- 25:35have you seriously watched? That's what I thought.
- 25:38Yeah, exactly. Not as much as us. Like, obviously
- 25:43goaltending, you know, screwed Edmonton over.
- 25:46Goaltending screwed Winnipeg over. That's going
- 25:51to be a question if he's going to be the number
- 25:53one when the Olympics come around. That's a story
- 25:56for January. Golden was inconsistent for Carolina
- 26:00there in the third round. We had one good game
- 26:03from Anderson, but other than that. Oh, yeah.
- 26:05In the first two rounds, he was pretty good.
- 26:07I think he had one rough game in the second round,
- 26:08but other than that, they went right through.
- 26:10Who did they play in the second round? Washington.
- 26:12Yeah, they lost game two. Which was pretty rough
- 26:16from Anderson. Yeah, but otherwise, it was like,
- 26:18you know, a little blemish on an otherwise perfect
- 26:21series for him. And again, they ran into the
- 26:24Florida Panthers. If they didn't run into Florida,
- 26:26who knows what could have happened there. That
- 26:29just shows how good the team Florida Panthers
- 26:31were. I mean, Skinner really did look pretty
- 26:35solid throughout the entirety of the playoffs
- 26:37until Florida came in. With the exception of
- 26:39games 1 and 2 versus LA. Yeah. Because then he
- 26:42really tanked. But after that, he was... Once
- 26:45he regained the net after the second round. Yeah.
- 26:49Because I think Picard finished the rest of the
- 26:52first round against LA. And then they were back
- 26:55and forth. Back and forth in the second round.
- 26:59Whew. Yeah, that's pretty much a thing about
- 27:01every team that ran into, every goalie that ran
- 27:03into Florida. Just did not do well. Vasilevsky
- 27:07might have been some of the worst hockey we've
- 27:08seen him play. Who did he play? Florida. Toronto.
- 27:13I mean, it's Toronto, but who did they play?
- 27:16That's a very low bar for Toronto goaltending,
- 27:18I hope you know. Very low. The Stars looked very,
- 27:21very solid in the first round. They took care
- 27:23of Ottawa pretty easily. I think they lost one
- 27:25game. No, two, because they went to six. Did
- 27:28Toronto go to six? I thought they went to six.
- 27:31They might have, okay. Hold on. Let me double
- 27:33check that. But he looked pretty solid in that
- 27:36series. And then second round, he looked pretty
- 27:39solid those first two games, and then... Toronto
- 27:41decided to pull Toronto. I think they lost the
- 27:44next three, and then Toronto forced seven with
- 27:46a game six win. I think Stoller's still pretty
- 27:49damn good in game seven. Yeah, they lost in six.
- 27:54Okay. Toronto's defense just stopped showing
- 28:00up there in game seven. I remember I think they
- 28:01scored, what was it, three goals in a matter
- 28:02of like four minutes or something like that.
- 28:04And just all downhill from there. Yeah, Toronto
- 28:09got outscored 12 -4 in the final three games.
- 28:15Two of which being in fucking Toronto. Out of
- 28:18places. We're kind of doing like a seasonally
- 28:23review here. What were some other teams that
- 28:25did not live up to what you thought they were
- 28:27going to be this year? Like some disappointing.
- 28:28I know as we kind of briefly mentioned, Nashville
- 28:31was big. The other one was Boston for me. Boston
- 28:34was bad. They just collapsed. They just collapsed,
- 28:39like, what, February, March, and they're like,
- 28:41time to sell, and they got rid of, what was it,
- 28:43Carlo, Marchand, I think it was one other guy
- 28:47they got rid of. Was it Trent, not Trent, February.
- 28:49Coyle. Charlie Coyle, that was the other one,
- 28:51yeah. And then the injury to McAvoy during formations
- 28:54definitely didn't help their cause. Makes me
- 28:56think, I know they're not talking about possibly
- 28:58shopping Swayman now, like, just talk about just
- 29:03that downfall, man. Like, just... That one was
- 29:06more just out of nowhere. Like, Nashville, I
- 29:08think, from the beginning of the year, they just
- 29:09did not have it. No. But Austin started off decent
- 29:12and just fell off, man. Just horrible. I mean,
- 29:16Nashville, you know, started like crap. And they
- 29:20did kind of level out a little bit after, like,
- 29:22the holiday break that turned the calendar year.
- 29:25But, like, they just weren't Nashville. Even
- 29:31their veterans, the people that have been on
- 29:34the team for a couple years now, weren't themselves.
- 29:39Take away O 'Reilly and Stammer and Marcheseau
- 29:44or whatever. They just weren't Nashville. One
- 29:48team that did surprise me, though, and I'm really
- 29:50happy for. is the Columbus Blue Jackets. Yeah,
- 29:53I mean, they did what? A couple points out of
- 29:56the playoffs? It came down to the second to last
- 29:58day or third to last day. The last couple days,
- 30:00regardless. But, like, they did exceptionally
- 30:03well for the amount of stuff they were put through
- 30:07at the beginning of the season, even before camp
- 30:09started. You know, all the way back to, you know,
- 30:11the loss of Jonathan Goudreau, you know, and
- 30:14then be like, okay, you get an exception. We
- 30:16know you're going to well below the base strength,
- 30:18the salary minimum. Your excuse. They were just
- 30:24playing a lot. A lot together. You could tell
- 30:27just watching that team. Each and every game
- 30:29they were playing for something. Obviously you
- 30:31know what it was. But you could tell they were
- 30:33playing for something. And they were fighting
- 30:36tooth and nail. Even their very last game. They
- 30:39were there. They were competing. We know we're
- 30:42not competing for a playoff spot. could be for
- 30:45ourselves, our fan base, and the city. I think
- 30:48American hockey as a whole was playing. I think
- 30:50the World Juniors, they had a jersey out for
- 30:52them. Four Nations, they had the jersey out and
- 30:54had a stall for them. The whole, just, USA hockey
- 30:58as a whole was playing for Johnny Pedro. I'll
- 31:01say the Columbus Blue Jackets even more so. Other
- 31:04two teams that came to mind that surprised me
- 31:07were the other two right in the bubble there
- 31:09battling with Columbus being Montreal and Ottawa.
- 31:12Yeah. Watch how, like, finally it's shown, like,
- 31:16they're starting to get competitive. Those younger
- 31:19guys are starting to come in clutch. You know,
- 31:21obviously, Lane Hudson being in addition was
- 31:22being a major help for them. And this is only
- 31:26the beginning. I think he was the Calder winner,
- 31:27wasn't he, Lane Hudson? I think he had won the
- 31:30Calder, didn't he? He did. Yeah, okay, he had
- 31:33won the Calder. That's why I thought it. Obviously,
- 31:34the younger guy, Cole Caulfield, had an outstanding
- 31:37year. We're at number 13 honoring Johnny. And,
- 31:40like, it just shows that, like, Montreal's in
- 31:44this for the long haul. Like, if they keep playing
- 31:47the way that they're playing, keep building the
- 31:49way that they're building, keep performing the
- 31:51way they want to perform, Martin St. Louis and
- 31:54that Montreal team, man, they're going to be
- 31:57a force to reckon with here. The fact that, sure,
- 32:02they made the playoffs again, like, just this
- 32:05past year, sure, they got cut. pretty much got
- 32:10screwed around by Washington, but that was just
- 32:12because with Washington getting into the young
- 32:16Canadians, like, they were just getting underneath
- 32:19the capsules and getting underneath their skin,
- 32:21but you could just tell that they're finally...
- 32:23Wow. I'm sorry. I'm just laughing at the fucking
- 32:28Tom Wilson picture that was photographed for
- 32:31a couple weeks there. Oh, my God. I still love
- 32:33it. One of the teams going out west, the only
- 32:36west team that I think that surprised me that
- 32:39they did, as well as they did with St. Louis.
- 32:42St. Louis did very, very well. I mean, obviously,
- 32:44that first round exit, but you brought the President's
- 32:46Trophy champions to seven games, a double overtime.
- 32:50In game seven. In seven games, I mean, yeah,
- 32:51you blew a two -goal lead with a minute and a
- 32:53half left. But, I mean, again, you brought the
- 32:55President Trophy winners to seven games. Like,
- 32:57I didn't expect St. Louis to be able to push
- 33:00seven. Which I think they would be the last team
- 33:03to make it in, I believe. So, if you make it
- 33:06in, like, last day, you win your last game, then
- 33:08squeeze into the playoffs. You're like, fuck,
- 33:10now we've got to play the President of the Strophy
- 33:11Champions. What did we just do to ourselves?
- 33:13But you're still pushing the seven games. Oh,
- 33:15that game seven between those two might have
- 33:17been the best game of the playoffs, man. Initially,
- 33:19I wasn't that excited. That was probably one
- 33:21of the few series I wasn't that excited for,
- 33:24but it ended up... Turned out to be one of the
- 33:26better ones. Jordan Bennington definitely had
- 33:28a resurgence, if you can say that, from his rookie
- 33:32season. Ever since Four Nations was definitely
- 33:35that huge kick in the ass that I... confidence
- 33:38booster that he really needed. Like, yo, I think
- 33:43I'm good now. He played extremely, extremely
- 33:47well. He's part of the reason that they made
- 33:50it that far. I think, honestly, that's where
- 33:53the turning point was for St. Louis. That's where
- 33:57the turning point for Jordan Binnington was.
- 33:59Because right before that, they were just...
- 34:02Yeah, mid lane. And the first thing that comes
- 34:05to mind are those two saves he made in the overtime
- 34:07in the Four Nations final. Yeah. Back -to -back
- 34:10shots. I think one was from Eichel in the next
- 34:13one. I think it was a slapper from the blue line,
- 34:15so I don't remember who it would have been, but
- 34:17maybe like Adam Fox or something. But just back
- 34:20-to -back saves, covered it, blew the whistle,
- 34:23off the faceoff, took a slapper, made another
- 34:25sprawling glove save. I don't know, I think it
- 34:28was like, what, three minutes later is when McDavid
- 34:30scored the winner. Yeah, St. Louis is definitely
- 34:35the other one for me. I think it's going to future
- 34:37me break for them next season for sure. If they
- 34:40can play as well as they did the second half
- 34:43of last season all year, they have a chance to
- 34:46maybe take that division, honestly. It's going
- 34:48to be tough with teams like Dallas in there.
- 34:50You've got Dallas, Colorado, Winnipeg, all that
- 34:53you've got to run through. I mean, that's also
- 34:57a tough division. I mean, obviously not as tough
- 34:59as the Atlantic, but that's – well, no, the Atlantic
- 35:02is starting to get weaker now. I would honestly
- 35:06say the Central might be up there for one of
- 35:08the Metro now. Yeah, it's just... I don't know.
- 35:11You can make that argument, which one's stronger,
- 35:13Central or Atlantic. Because it was there for
- 35:17the longest time, it was the Metro. The Atlantic,
- 35:20the last few years, kind of took that away, and
- 35:24then now, obviously, as we mentioned, the Central's
- 35:26kind of been, I think, the most competitive.
- 35:34Sorry, the cat's on one right now. Am I going
- 35:37to have to hang that jersey a little bit higher?
- 35:39I might have to hang three jerseys up a little
- 35:41bit higher if he's going to be in here. Actually,
- 35:43no, they're probably just souls, Joe. Do you
- 35:44guys happen to have your season predictions from
- 35:47the beginning of your stills saved? Oh, holy
- 35:49crap. I want to put these up and see just about
- 35:54how off we were. The only divisional line that
- 35:58was decent -ish was the central. Other than that,
- 36:04I guess my Pacific was decent. Actually, my Pacific
- 36:08was really pretty good, actually. I actually
- 36:11still have it. You still have yours? Yep. I'm
- 36:23guessing, like we always did, the West and then
- 36:27go over to the Atlantic. Who did you have Pacific
- 36:30in order from 1 -8? I had the Sharks in Glass,
- 36:34the Ducks 7th, the Flames 6th, the Kraken 5th,
- 36:38the Kings 4th, the Canucks 3rd, Vegas in 2nd,
- 36:43and then the Oilers in 1st. You and I were the
- 36:45exact same, but I had Edmonton Vegas switch.
- 36:47I don't know. I might not have it. You don't
- 36:51have yours? If not, that's fine. We'll go back
- 36:58and look at actual. The Pacific was actually
- 37:04from 8 -1 with San Jose, Kraken, Anaheim, Vancouver,
- 37:10Calgary, Edmonton, LA, Vegas. So, I mean, my
- 37:14top four were pretty good, and then bottom four
- 37:16were pretty good, just a little bit swapped around.
- 37:19Central, who did you have from 8 -1? I had Chicago,
- 37:23the Blues in seventh, Wilds sixth, Utah fifth,
- 37:27the Predators fourth, the Jets third. They asked
- 37:32second and the Stars first. That one, you and
- 37:34I were exactly the same. So, yeah, it just showed,
- 37:38man, how much little faith we had in St. Louis.
- 37:40And they were, what, ended up fourth, I think?
- 37:43Fifth. Yeah, that's right. Five teams from the
- 37:45Central Mates this year. The real was Chicago,
- 37:48Nashville, Utah, St. Louis, Minnesota, Colorado,
- 37:52Dallas, Winnipeg. So, again, top four, bottom
- 37:56four were getting pretty close, but just a little
- 37:58bit rearranged besides St. Louis being in seventh.
- 38:01The Atlantic, what did you have? I had the Canadiens
- 38:05in eighth, the Senators seventh, the Sabres sixth,
- 38:08the Rangers fifth, the Lightning fourth, the
- 38:11Leafs third, the Bruins second, and the Panthers
- 38:14one. I had Buffalo, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay,
- 38:19Toronto, Detroit, Boston, Florida. I had too
- 38:23much faith in Florida this year, man. I'm honest.
- 38:25They were only five points out of the playoffs
- 38:28this year. I'm honest. Even though I had... Montreal
- 38:318th. I'm kind of glad they proved me. Again,
- 38:35that's another one. They proved us wrong. I had
- 38:36them 7th. The real was Boston, Buffalo, Detroit,
- 38:41Montreal, Ottawa, Florida, Tampa, Toronto. Which
- 38:46is crazy to think Boston of all teams got to
- 38:50be at the bottom there. And then Metro, who did
- 38:53we have? Metro, I had Columbus on the 8th, DeCaps
- 38:57on the 7th. I don't know what else to think of
- 38:59DeCaps. Because we were going to make stuff up
- 39:02last. Yeah. We're not very good. The Penguins
- 39:06sixth, the Islanders fifth, the Flyers fourth,
- 39:09the Devils third, the Hurricanes second, and
- 39:12the Rangers won. Yeah. That's another one because
- 39:16it was a disappointing team was the Rangers.
- 39:18Oh, yeah. I'm happy they played like shit. I'm
- 39:20glad they did. But they were just a disappointing
- 39:23team. I had Columbus, Philly, New Jersey, Pittsburgh.
- 39:28Washington. So I guess I had a little more faith
- 39:30in Washington. Islanders, Rangers, Hurricanes.
- 39:35Which, again, top four, bottom four weren't horrible,
- 39:38but except me having the Rangers up in second.
- 39:43Yeah, the real was... We said the real? No, we
- 39:46didn't. Philly, Pittsburgh, Islanders, Rangers,
- 39:49Blue Jackets, Devils, Hurricanes, Capitals. Which,
- 39:54I mean, the Hurricanes were only... Sorry, the
- 39:56Columbus was only what? at one game out of the
- 39:59playoffs yeah they came down that final day they
- 40:02would have won one more game and they would have
- 40:03had 91 points and might have seen some sort of
- 40:07tiebreaker there yeah man crazy crazy season
- 40:11it feels like a hockey every year just gets crazier
- 40:15and crazier every single year it gets more and
- 40:19more exciting every single year so much fun it's
- 40:22one that i always look why i love like how it's
- 40:25why it's getting longer it's just Like, he gets
- 40:28through almost the entire year. It's the best
- 40:31sport. It really is. There's no argument for
- 40:35it. You can't change my mind. Nothing will. I
- 40:39tell you, that's going to be hard to beat on
- 40:41all six. Like, that's not going to change my
- 40:44mind. Like, Clocky is by far the best. Colin,
- 40:49finally, let's do your blind ranking here. About
- 40:52fucking time. Jesus Christ. I've been waiting
- 40:54over here for, like, 30 minutes now. All right.
- 41:00It's not really blind rankings because we're
- 41:03ranking the last 10 Stanley Cup champions. So
- 41:09we're going to go back in time. We're going to
- 41:13go the 25 Panthers team. All right. And they're
- 41:17up there. We kind of already touched up on it.
- 41:22They were one of the best. One of the best dynasties.
- 41:28I mean, honestly, do you mind? We were just talking
- 41:30about the Dynasties, but you still got... You
- 41:33got the 23 Avalanche in there. You got the 22
- 41:37Avalanche. You got the 22 Avalanche in there.
- 41:40You got the 18 Capitals in there. 19 Blues. 19
- 41:44Blues. I mean, they were more than wild. There
- 41:46were a lot of cartoons that year, by the way.
- 41:47But still, I mean... Then you got the... Obviously,
- 41:51the Kings is 12 and 15. Well, this would only
- 41:54go back to 15. Oh, 15. The Penguins or the Blackhawks?
- 41:5716. Penguins? Okay. Yeah. So, first of the two
- 42:04packed back. So, 25 Panthers, I'll put... I'd
- 42:09say they're... They're definitely top two, I
- 42:12would say. I'd say at least top two, top three,
- 42:16of course. I'd say probably three. Stop freaking
- 42:19throwing the curtain, dummy. I'd say probably
- 42:21three. Three? Yeah. I'll top throw them. There
- 42:27it is. Alright, obviously then the 24 Panthers.
- 42:35The 4 Panthers again. That's another one. They
- 42:37were just as good. I think this team was way
- 42:39better though. I think the 25 team was much better.
- 42:44Yeah. I'd probably put this one maybe down 6
- 42:51or 7. What do you think we have? I'd say seven.
- 42:59Seven? Okay. All right, then we got the 23 injured
- 43:09reserve. That's a really good team, though, man.
- 43:12That's a really good team, too. Again, because
- 43:15of that, I mean, they kind of cheated, like,
- 43:18legally cheating this system. which is a very
- 43:22cheap way to do it, but they kind of found a
- 43:24loophole and ran with it, and it worked. They
- 43:26made it work, and they kind of... I mean, it
- 43:28doesn't take away from the fact that they were
- 43:30a really good team, though. But were they better
- 43:33than those 25 Panthers, or maybe, instead of
- 43:35the 23 Avalanche, the 17 Penguins, the 18 Capitals?
- 43:40I'd say put them at 5. Wait, did we say seven
- 43:51for 24 Panthers? Yeah. Oh, sorry. Yeah, so that's
- 43:53it. Wait a second. All right, the 22 Avalanche.
- 44:13Yeah, that's one of them that's either one or
- 44:15two. Were they the best? They might have been,
- 44:21man. They were a good team. They took the back
- 44:24-to -back Stanley Cup champions and beat them
- 44:26in what? Was it five? Or was it six? It was in
- 44:29six. Still, man, you take down the back -to -back
- 44:33winners with not much difficulty. They might
- 44:39be the best, though. Yeah, it was in six games.
- 44:45Six. I don't think they did it in Tampa. Yep.
- 44:50I would think that for a second. Are they the
- 44:53best? I'd say they might be. I'd say no worse
- 44:59than four, but I would definitely say at least
- 45:02top two for sure. Alright, then he got the two
- 45:07back -to -backs, the 2020 and 2021 Lightning.
- 45:10The 2021 Lightning were definitely way better
- 45:13than the 2020. The 2020, I think, is 10. Just
- 45:17based off of, I mean, it counts, but for what
- 45:21measures? I mean, that could have been anybody's
- 45:24year. They just kind of have to be the ones that
- 45:26got lucky and took it all. 21. Did we put them
- 45:32at six or did we put them at eight? That's where
- 45:35I was going back and forth on six. We still got
- 45:38the two Penguins team. I think they were better
- 45:39than the 16 Penguins. I think the 17 Penguins
- 45:44might be the number two spot. Are you really
- 45:48putting the 18 caps below that? I think yeah,
- 45:52I think they'd be a good four spot. But, oh man.
- 45:59Cause I'm trying to think who it is. Or miss.
- 46:04So Blues, Caps, Penguins. Man, this is tougher
- 46:15than I thought. So the 21 bullets, I think put
- 46:21them at 8? Yeah. Then obviously you got the 19
- 46:31blues. I'd put those probably at about... That'd
- 46:36be the 6? I'd be 26 and 9. Let's see, how many
- 46:47more of the... 16 Penguins is that bad to be
- 46:499? That's why I said I'm trying to... Because
- 46:54obviously... That team as a whole, I mean, that's
- 46:57one, they didn't really start picking it up until
- 46:59the second half of the season. That's why I'm
- 47:06bad before doing one put. We're going to get
- 47:09called biased for putting Penguins in the top
- 47:10two, but... I'd say put the Blues 6, and then
- 47:22the Penguins is 6. So the 18 caps would be 4
- 47:31then? Yeah. And the 17 pens too? I think that's
- 47:37pretty fair. And yeah, there was no beating for
- 47:4018 caps. Oh, sorry. There was no beating that
- 47:4517 -pence team. I mean, we were just unstoppable
- 47:48out here. Malkin played some of the best hockey
- 47:52he'd ever played. Rookie Gensel playing, you
- 47:54know, like a young guy. He's still playing just
- 47:57as good, but Gensel was on fire. Crosby did really
- 48:01well the first three rounds. We love Crosby,
- 48:04but he never shuts up in the finals. You can't
- 48:08say he does. I mean, goaltending tandem. prime
- 48:12Matt Murray and obviously prime Marc -Andre Fleury.
- 48:15Well, obviously Fleury didn't really get the
- 48:17chance to play in the 16 Cup run, but he was
- 48:21the reason why they made it. He played the first
- 48:23two rounds and then the first couple games of
- 48:25the third round. He started to struggle and then
- 48:28Murray came in and carried him the rest of the
- 48:29way. He played well in games one and two at home
- 48:32and games three in Ottawa, but then game four,
- 48:35Murray stepped in. And then Murray just took
- 48:38over from there. Obviously, the Penguins wouldn't
- 48:42be there. I mean, granted, they were down, you
- 48:44know, 2 -1 in the series against Ottawa in 17.
- 48:49But, you wouldn't be down 2 -1 in the series
- 48:51against Ottawa in the third conference finals
- 48:54without a Mark Roderick Fleury. Yeah. That angle,
- 48:58that goal -tending tandem alone, I think, took
- 49:01the Penguins in second. Oh, yeah. It was one
- 49:03of those, like, Fleury went down, you're like,
- 49:05ah, we don't have much to worry, we have Murray,
- 49:07you know. Not many teams, not many teams, well,
- 49:17not just good, but any team, period, can say,
- 49:20oh, you have a 1A, 1B goaltender. You can play
- 49:24anyone, any given night. You know you have a
- 49:27solid goaltender. Just like back in the day when
- 49:29you had Prime Crosby, Brian Malkin, you were
- 49:31a 1A, 1B centerman. Oh, no. You know, one of
- 49:34us matched up against, you know, their top defensive
- 49:36pair, and that's it? Like, the other team only
- 49:39has one good defensive pair? Your other center
- 49:41might just take it up and be like, okay, I am
- 49:43your leader now, Damon. I will lead the way.
- 49:46You scared the shit out of me. Come here, Bubba.
- 49:49I mean, Marc -Andre Fleury, I mean, from the
- 49:51time I was 12, 13, 14 years old, I was defending
- 49:53him just constantly. You know, my dad was one
- 49:55of those, you know, when Fleury had that kind
- 49:57of rough strife where he wasn't... The best from,
- 49:59what, like, 2011 to 2014? Yeah, yeah. He wasn't
- 50:03his best. He definitely wasn't as good as he
- 50:05was in his early days, and then, you know, 15
- 50:08to 20, you know. The dark ages, as I like to
- 50:11call them. You got the injury years between Crosby
- 50:13and Malkin. You got the routine cast of characters,
- 50:16the bottom six, you know. You were kind of in
- 50:19between the two identities of, you got the prime
- 50:21Bilesma days, and then you got the prime Sullivan
- 50:24days. Those two through. When I was that age,
- 50:28my dad was one of those big, oh, Fleury sucks
- 50:30now, he sucks now, we've got to get rid of him,
- 50:31his time's down, it's time to get rid of him.
- 50:33I was like, we suck, our team sucks. Give him
- 50:37time, he's going to come back around. He's the
- 50:38best goalie we've ever seen in our franchise,
- 50:41for a reason. Since Tom Brasso. Three years later,
- 50:46he goes back to back. I mean, for reasons. I
- 50:48mean, and almost went three in a row with a different
- 50:51team for the third year. But, you know, fell
- 50:53short, too. You know, that fourth at 18 caps,
- 50:56you know. Should have been a part of that 23
- 50:59Knights team, but that's how it happened. You
- 51:03know, they decided to say, fuck you. Let's not
- 51:06talk about that right now, okay? I'm still a
- 51:09little bit salty for good reasons. That's how
- 51:11they treated him, yeah. Hey, we know you're the
- 51:15face of the franchise for a couple years. Minnesota
- 51:17made up for them. Minnesota treated him very,
- 51:20very well. You can't really say that they treated
- 51:23him well or not. He was there long enough. You're
- 51:26like, hey, you're a great locker room presence.
- 51:27Hey, you can be a great leader, but we're not
- 51:29going to use you for that long. Minnesota was
- 51:33like, come here, we will treat you like king.
- 51:36They did. His whole farewell tour this season
- 51:40was just... So emotional. It's tough to say,
- 51:45man. I don't know hockey without Marc -Andre
- 51:49Fleury playing. No matter what team he plays
- 51:52for, I don't remember hockey without Marc -Andre
- 51:54Fleury being on the bench or on the ice. Because
- 51:58as of recording Sunday, June 22nd, the Penguins
- 52:03did a rewind on the 21st. They did a rewind that...
- 52:09Like back 22 years ago, yet on the 21st, it was
- 52:13when they officially drafted Marc -Andre Fleury.
- 52:15I would have been three years old when he was
- 52:17drafted by the time he started seeing real good
- 52:21ice time. It would have been, what, 2005, 2006
- 52:22when Crosby came in? Keep in mind, nine more
- 52:27days, you will be under NHL contracts. Nine more
- 52:31days, you'd be considered a professional. Sign
- 52:37with the Pittsburgh Penguins. One day, officially
- 52:40retire as a Pittsburgh Penguin. Join our front
- 52:45office. Be an assistant goaltenders coach. I
- 52:47know I think we signed one, but I don't care.
- 52:50Be an assistant goalies coach. Just be that locker
- 52:55room presence. Every locker room needs one. I
- 52:59don't care who the frick it is. Like, who it
- 53:01is and he has a locker room. Be the Zamboni driver
- 53:04and maybe you can come in and be the emergency
- 53:07goaltender at some point. No, just watch. It's
- 53:12going to be a game against Philadelphia and Pittsburgh
- 53:16and he's going to have to suit up in that fucking
- 53:18ugly ass orange and black. Go be the Zamboni
- 53:21driver for the Wilkes -Barre Scranton Penguins.
- 53:28He could be the 42 -year -old Zamboni driver.
- 53:32Number 29. They already have a jersey for him.
- 53:36They wouldn't even need to make another jersey.
- 53:39Again. If Kyle Dubas is smart, he would do this.
- 53:45He would do it. I hope he fucking hears me down
- 53:49in Pittsburgh, wherever he lives. He would do
- 53:53this. For the goodness of Pittsburgh's soul.
- 53:57For every sports franchise in Pittsburgh, as
- 54:03good or as shit as they are. If that happens,
- 54:07I honestly don't fucking care what happens to
- 54:09the Penguins next season. I honestly don't know
- 54:11if I would care. I'd be like, I'm happy he...
- 54:13If he were to officially say, hey, I'm retiring
- 54:17as a Pittsburgh Penguin, just full circle, I
- 54:22can die happy. I could die that day and I'd be
- 54:25happy. Yeah, the whole season, just for the last
- 54:32game in Pittsburgh, they did something for him.
- 54:34I think his last game in Vegas, they did something
- 54:35for him. His last game in Montreal, they did
- 54:37something for him. His last regular season game
- 54:40for the Wild, they did something. I think he
- 54:42came in for overtime and ended up winning the
- 54:45game for him. Yeah. And then his last game of
- 54:48the playoff run, too. I think that when they
- 54:50lost to Vegas, I think, wasn't it? They did something
- 54:55for him there, too, man. His last game against
- 54:58Washington. Yeah, I was going to say. From the
- 55:00bench. No, get your asses back out here. I don't
- 55:03care if I have to drag you back out by your manhood.
- 55:05You're coming out here and you're shaking this
- 55:07guy's hair. I know they've had that love -hate
- 55:09relationship with each other. I mean, it's more,
- 55:11I definitely think it's more like a respectful
- 55:13hate, if that makes sense. Like, you know, I
- 55:16just, I hate playing against you because you
- 55:18always fucking score on me. It was how floor
- 55:19you felt for him, you know? I think he was like,
- 55:23I'm just so happy you didn't score 895 on me.
- 55:25I think that's what he had said. Something like
- 55:28that. He was like, what's your opinions on Gretzky
- 55:32finally breaking the goal record? He goes, well,
- 55:33I know I had a good fair share to do with that.
- 55:36So I think he was the OB's number one goalie
- 55:39that he scored on. Yeah, his top three were Price
- 55:41and Lundqvist. Lundqvist was two and Price was
- 55:44number three. Obviously the two in your division
- 55:47that you played in your division for your entire
- 55:49career. Imagine if Flyer probably would have
- 55:53been a lot higher if he would have stayed with
- 55:54the Penguins the whole time. He would have been
- 55:57probably well over 100 and scored on Fleury.
- 55:59I think it was like 80 -something or 70 -something,
- 56:0280 -something he scored against Fleury. I don't
- 56:04remember. It was quite a few. It's tough. It's
- 56:09going to be tough next year knowing that, wow,
- 56:12Fleury's not backing somebody up tonight or Fleury's
- 56:14not going to be on the bench that way. Maybe
- 56:16he changes his mind and does one more. Who knows?
- 56:19We've seen. seen tom brady do it but i said it
- 56:22was just like watching flurry like just highlights
- 56:26and just watching it's just i could always put
- 56:30a smile on my face like seeing like just i mean
- 56:33i still get chills from that 2009 last second
- 56:37sprawling saving and nick lindstrom of all people
- 56:40that's to this day is probably my favorite um
- 56:42flurry saving that to this day still It's my
- 56:47favorite flurry save. He even said that he had
- 56:50a big old bruise the size of a puck on his chest.
- 56:55Like, right, right, like, I don't know. For a
- 56:57while after that, yeah? Yeah. It didn't glitz
- 57:01or not. It was probably a good 90 -something
- 57:03mile an hour slap shot from the point there.
- 57:04Going from one side of the crease to the other,
- 57:07just doing that. That's still, to this day, that
- 57:09call from Doc. Doc ever calling it, too? Just...
- 57:13chills, man. Just unbelievable. And everybody
- 57:16on the bench was like, oh god, Flower, please
- 57:17fucking get over it. Just keep going over it.
- 57:19Bill, Bill, Bill Gator is like, oh god, it's
- 57:21that strong. Shit. Yeah, I remember just watching
- 57:26that DVD documentary of that. They're just watching
- 57:29every second. Every second felt like hours ticking
- 57:34off of that clock. And you have the final face
- 57:37-off with eight seconds left. Six and a half.
- 57:40Six and a half. I think Rafalski might have,
- 57:44you know, Rafalski gets it over to Lidstrom,
- 57:47and then you're like, oh, fuck, it's Lidstrom.
- 57:51I mean, that could have been, who knows? Again,
- 57:53who knows what happens if he scores that goal?
- 57:56Who knows? Obviously, that goes to overtime.
- 57:59Does Detroit go back -to -back again and win
- 58:02that year? Is Marc -Andre Fleury considered one
- 58:07of the greats if he lets that goal in? It's crazy
- 58:10to think. I think I told this story once before,
- 58:26but I just remember because I was, you know,
- 58:298, 9 years old, you know, games start at 8 o
- 58:31'clock, so I was probably pushing midnight by
- 58:34the time that's happening. But it was in the
- 58:36summer, we were done with school, but I still
- 58:38wasn't allowed to stay up that late. But where
- 58:41we lived at the time, where my parents live now,
- 58:46where my mom lives now, my bedroom was at the
- 58:49end of the hallway, and I could sit at the end
- 58:51of the hallway with a perfect clear shot of the
- 58:53TV. So if I wanted to watch the game, I'd just
- 58:56sit at the end of the hallway, just stay very,
- 58:58very quiet, and I could get a perfect shot of
- 59:00the TV and watch it happen. And that's exactly
- 59:02what happened. I could just sit at the end of
- 59:04the hallway and just watch it happen. Just try
- 59:07to silently cheer. I think I let out a little
- 59:08bit too loud of a cheer. My dad looks around
- 59:10the corner, and I'm sitting at the end of the
- 59:12hallway like, yeah! I actually remember I was
- 59:15just sitting in the middle of where I was living
- 59:20at the time with my mom. Sitting in the middle
- 59:22because... middle of the floor like watching
- 59:26him like just like this I'm like come on come
- 59:29on come on like after I'm like I jump I'm like
- 59:34yes yes yes we had like just moved into that
- 59:37into that you know this house where we were at
- 59:40so we were at the Steelers Super Bowl a couple
- 59:41months prior you know we were at a different
- 59:44place and I wasn't able to do that but I was
- 59:45allowed to stay for that one because the Super
- 59:47Bowl would end by like 10 o 'clock I was allowed
- 59:49to stay for that one Another funny story about
- 59:52that one. This is going off topic because it's
- 59:54not hockey, but it's the last episode of the
- 59:55season. It was just bullshit. This is Super Bowl,
- 59:58you know, Super Bowl 43, Steelers -Cardinals,
- 1:00:00obviously. Still incredible. Larry Fitzgerald
- 1:00:02takes that touchdown to the house with like two
- 1:00:04and a half minutes left. I remember my dad, I
- 1:00:05think he almost fractured his wrist because he
- 1:00:07punched the couch so fucking hard when that happened,
- 1:00:10thinking the game was over. Obviously, Ben Roethlisberger
- 1:00:13does, you know, final last two -minute drive
- 1:00:17of the game, Ben Roethlisberger things. goes
- 1:00:19down and wins it for us. I was going to say,
- 1:00:22I think mine was, my almost, like, got kicked
- 1:00:26out of the house was the 2017 double OT winner.
- 1:00:30Cooney scored. Probably out of your, like, how
- 1:00:33out of your meaning for it? Yeah, I see that
- 1:00:36knuckler going. It's, like, 11, 30, 12, maybe
- 1:00:39nights. Well, it's double overtime, so it's probably
- 1:00:42closer to 12, 31. Yeah, and, like, watching it
- 1:00:44down on the bedroom of my parents' place, like,
- 1:00:46their ceiling's high, so, like, Talk like this,
- 1:00:51and echoes. But, you know, everybody was in bed.
- 1:00:55I see that puck going. I get up and I'm like,
- 1:00:57LET'S FUCKING GO! And my one brother walks out,
- 1:01:02my dad walks out, and they're like, what? I'm
- 1:01:05just like, THEY FUCKING WON! Like, I was going
- 1:01:08nuts. I was laying on the couch watching him,
- 1:01:12and I fucking fell asleep, so I fucking missed
- 1:01:14it. I just woke up and it was the post -game,
- 1:01:18like, them, you know, sitting at the table just
- 1:01:21talking about it. I was like, bitch. It was kind
- 1:01:23of funny. It was similar to what Collins, because
- 1:01:27where I'm living at now, like, my house is not
- 1:01:29soundproof. I can hear anything. Like, I can
- 1:01:31hear the neighbors, like, TV or the hallways,
- 1:01:35like, when the door opens or whatever. I'm alone
- 1:01:39with the bed. I'm like, it was late at night,
- 1:01:43too. I'm like... And I screamed to him. I'm like,
- 1:01:48she's like, what? It's like, it's quiet. I'm
- 1:01:53like, sorry. I was like, sorry. I remember screaming
- 1:02:01pretty loudly with Horny's go -ahead goal in
- 1:02:06game six of the finals that same year. Got pretty
- 1:02:11loud for that one, I remember, too. It was like,
- 1:02:14holy fuck, that went in. Like, he just, like,
- 1:02:16everybody was shocked. Like, nobody knew it went
- 1:02:18in. Like, off the backside. Marty was the only
- 1:02:21one that knew it went in. Off the backside of
- 1:02:23Rene. You know. Off the post, off his back. And
- 1:02:28he just kind of, like, backed it into the net.
- 1:02:31I don't know if it's controversial because then
- 1:02:33I think, but I think it was, like, a minute into
- 1:02:35the second period, the one that. Ref lost sight
- 1:02:38of it right behind Murray, but it was still free.
- 1:02:40Yeah, and they were able to poke it in, but he
- 1:02:41blew the whistle just before them. Yeah, because
- 1:02:43he lost sight of it. I mean, that's the rule,
- 1:02:44though. I mean, you lose sight of the puck, you
- 1:02:46blow the whistle. That's the rule. I think the
- 1:02:48unfortunate thing was the ref was still in the
- 1:02:50corner versus, like, he should have been behind
- 1:02:53the net. He should have been following the puck,
- 1:02:56yeah, yeah. Yeah, he should have been, like,
- 1:02:57directly behind the net watching. I 100 % understand
- 1:03:00why Predators fans to this day are still pissed
- 1:03:02off about it. Rightfully so. I get it. It would
- 1:03:05have pissed me off too. If I was in their shoes.
- 1:03:08I'm not taking that away from you. Sorry. Mistakes
- 1:03:14happen. That's just how it is. Let's do our final
- 1:03:19Puck Doku of the season. I'm totally on the wrong
- 1:03:22profile here. I'm on my personal versus the professional.
- 1:03:27Alright. Well, what do we have? Just about an
- 1:03:32hour. All right. Easy peasy. Puck, don't go.
- 1:03:36So going across through the columns, we have
- 1:03:38the Ducks, the Golden Knights, and 30 plus points
- 1:03:41in a season. And for the Rose, we have CBJ, Detroit,
- 1:03:47and Buffalo. So we got either Tuck or Eichel.
- 1:03:52We got... Well... We're off the bat. We're just
- 1:03:58talking about him. Got to put Johnny Gaudreau.
- 1:04:00Call him his 30 -plus points. There we go. All
- 1:04:13right. Let's see. Tuck or Eichel. Well, we can
- 1:04:20do Eichel for the 30 -plus and then Tuck for...
- 1:04:22Yeah, true. Or either or. It doesn't matter.
- 1:04:26Either or. 1%. David Perron for Red Wings Vegas.
- 1:04:40Yeah. Obviously for 30 -point season for Detroit,
- 1:04:51you could put just about anyone. Zetterberg,
- 1:04:55Raymond, Datsouk, Gordie Howe. Columbus Vegas,
- 1:05:00that's going to be a difficult one. Jonathan
- 1:05:08Quick, no. Technically, he would have never played
- 1:05:12a game for a lot of minutes. Points for credit.
- 1:05:16Blue Jackets legend. He's getting his banner
- 1:05:17next year, man. Returning his jersey next year.
- 1:05:26Not Gary McCauley. I think he's an LA to me.
- 1:05:28Yeah, I was going to say. That's why I haven't
- 1:05:30said him because I was trying to save him until
- 1:05:33we got the other ones. Obviously, Buffalo A &I,
- 1:05:37Ryan Miller. Billy Huso for Anaheim, Detroit?
- 1:05:41Didn't Billy Huso play in Anaheim? No. St. Louis?
- 1:05:49I know he played for St. Louis. Okay. I thought
- 1:05:51he played for Anaheim as well. Possibly, but
- 1:05:53I'm not confident enough to put it yet. Oh! Oh!
- 1:06:01Oh! Oh -oh! Oh -oh! William Carlson, Columbus,
- 1:06:09Vegas. Drafted by Columbus and was in the expansion
- 1:06:12draft for Vegas. His bet's still there, isn't
- 1:06:15he? Yeah. He's one of the original misfits. I'm
- 1:06:19sorry, I just see Otis' fat ass marching down
- 1:06:21back there. Yeah, I'm talking about a heel. Detroit,
- 1:06:26Anaheim. Columbus, Anaheim. I'm mixing Anderson
- 1:06:41and Bob Roski. Bob was Columbus, Philly, Florida,
- 1:06:47whereas Anderson was Anaheim, Toronto, Carolina.
- 1:06:53I know, I was trying to think there too. No.
- 1:07:01I think Boone Jenner has been in Columbus his
- 1:07:05whole career. Yep. I'm trying to think of some
- 1:07:09of those guys that have bounced around. Like
- 1:07:10Atkinson, I don't think he played for Anaheim.
- 1:07:13Atkinson was Columbus Philly. That's it. No,
- 1:07:16he's Tampa. Oh, yeah, this past year at the deadline.
- 1:07:26Oh, Detroit, Anaheim. I feel like that was one
- 1:07:29that we should know. I should text Ethan, hey,
- 1:07:32Detroit, Anaheim, go. That's what I was thinking,
- 1:07:39like, Ethan would know. Damn it, Ethan! Did Brad
- 1:07:42Cogutis ever play for Columbus? No. No? Okay.
- 1:07:54I'm gonna text Ethan right now. I'm gonna do
- 1:07:59you one better. Did he answer this late? It's
- 1:08:06only 9 .30. He's usually up to save him. Maybe.
- 1:08:19I don't think he's going to pick up. Damn. And
- 1:08:28hang up. Don't leak his number or something.
- 1:08:30Thank you for calling. Watch. As soon as we're
- 1:08:35done here, he's going to call me back. Oh, Philly,
- 1:08:38at least it was possible. Like, I don't remember
- 1:08:40if he played Anaheim or not. Like, early, like,
- 1:08:43before St. Louis. What about Gots to be here?
- 1:08:51Gots is there. No, I think he was Philly. Philly,
- 1:08:59Detroit, Carolina, I believe. And then Kevin
- 1:09:03Shitmister. I'm sorry. I can only think of even
- 1:09:07think names now. Was he ever on Columbus? Oh,
- 1:09:11I was thinking Detroit. Oh, man. We've got to
- 1:09:23go out the bay here, man, on this. We're going
- 1:09:26to go 9 for 9 here. Damn. Rick Nash will never
- 1:09:31play for Anaheim. I think there's a goalie here
- 1:09:41somewhere. Who did Oso play for? Damn. You got
- 1:09:49other players like Alex... I don't know who Alex
- 1:09:51Ion. Peter Morazic. I don't think Terrence Halbin
- 1:09:57ever played for... Gene Reimer's been around.
- 1:10:00Been a journeyman. Reimer's definitely Detroit,
- 1:10:04but I can't remember. Oh, was he Anaheim? Yes,
- 1:10:07he was. Oh. Because I know he's been out less.
- 1:10:15That might be. I don't know, though. I'm trying
- 1:10:23to picture James Reimer in a Ducks uniform. Jack
- 1:10:26Campbell's Toronto, Edmonton, I haven't played
- 1:10:31a game in Detroit yet, but he's in their system.
- 1:10:41I like Reimer better than... I mean, Reimer and
- 1:10:44Huso are two possibilities that Reimer and I
- 1:10:47were for. But we'll get both for Detroit -Anaheim.
- 1:10:53Oh, um... Alex Glorn was only at Tampa -Anaheim.
- 1:11:00Corey Perry has never played for Columbus and
- 1:11:04Detroit. I'm trying to think like that 15, 16,
- 1:11:0817 Columbus team where the Penguins would have
- 1:11:10played them a lot. Like, Brandon Dubinsky comes
- 1:11:12to mind. Brandon Saad comes to mind. Has Saad
- 1:11:17done Anaheim? I know he's played out West quite
- 1:11:22a bit, but has he done Anaheim specifically?
- 1:11:25I don't know. I feel like Matt Duchesne or Anthony
- 1:11:32DeClaire I know have all bounced around. What
- 1:11:37would DeClaire be? Detroit Anaheim. I don't think
- 1:11:44he'd play. I'm not confident. Oh, man. I'm thinking
- 1:11:53like a Riley Shahan. I know he jumped around.
- 1:11:58He's definitely done Detroit. I'm not sure. Again,
- 1:12:01I'm not sure about Anaheim. That's my best guess
- 1:12:18I can come up with right now is Raleigh -Shahan.
- 1:12:25Steve Mason. Columbus. Maybe Anaheim. Maybe.
- 1:12:35I'm just trying to spit bald hands at this point.
- 1:12:37That's tough. Eric Branson's jumped around. That
- 1:12:42could be Columbus -Anaheim. So we're going to
- 1:12:48go Good Branson for Columbus and Huso for Detroit?
- 1:12:53We'll do Good Branson first for Columbus -Anaheim.
- 1:13:00Yeah, okay, okay, alright, alright, alright.
- 1:13:02Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 1:13:05So we're between, what, Huso and Riley Shahan?
- 1:13:09Can we flip a coin? Heads is Shahan, tails is
- 1:13:16Huso? Flip a coin. We didn't even decide who's
- 1:13:24who. I said heads is two hands. Alright, that's
- 1:13:27two out of three. It's tails, so flip again.
- 1:13:33Heads. Okay. Flip it again. Tails. Alright, so
- 1:13:41Philly Husso's the lock -in. Drumroll, please.
- 1:13:52Good guess. We were both right, though, wasn't
- 1:13:54we? Shahan, too. Bernier, Huso. David Perron
- 1:14:01can fit there, too. James Reimer. We were right
- 1:14:03on Reimer, too. Steve Thomas, Max Olney, Dennis
- 1:14:06Sprung. Brad May. Good thing we won't, though.
- 1:14:12Okay, I am not seeing... Carter Rowney. Zach
- 1:14:15Est... What? What did the Estonians play for
- 1:14:18Detroit? What? Steve, why? I'm just going to
- 1:14:22blame Stevie Y on this one. Alright? Why did
- 1:14:25Czar play for Detroit? Wait, what were some other
- 1:14:31ones for Columbus? And I'm too. Simon, Sillinger,
- 1:14:38Lone Carlson, which we got. Jared Bull, Curtis
- 1:14:42Macklin is Czar. That one I knew, but I didn't
- 1:14:45know he played for Detroit. Jamiro Pronger, Scott
- 1:14:49Harrington. Rene Bork. Brian Gibbitt. When the
- 1:14:55fuck did Czar play for Detroit? Did we want to
- 1:15:02try the pyramid or not? He played three games
- 1:15:06for Detroit in the 23 -24 season. Detroit legend.
- 1:15:10Three games where he put up zero points, two
- 1:15:15penalty minutes, and had five minutes of ice
- 1:15:17time in three games. Detroit legend. Wow. All
- 1:15:23right. Anybody that's ever been drafted. We're
- 1:15:27going to say Sam Reinhardt for the very, very
- 1:15:29top. Did he play in the W? Did he play in the
- 1:15:33W? I thought he came from the L. Bennett did.
- 1:15:39What? No. Well, did Bennett get drafted in the
- 1:15:42first round? That's the thing. Bennett didn't
- 1:15:45play for Detroit. Or for Buffalo, sorry. Oh,
- 1:15:49yeah. Any first round ever. Let's just go Mario
- 1:15:58Lui. Father gets played. Younger. 30 will see
- 1:16:10them. Crosby. That's just about to start tapping
- 1:16:15that in. All right, so we'll be here. First round,
- 1:16:18500 games played, 30 goals, plus goal seasons.
- 1:16:22We could just do Jack Eichel. Has he played 500
- 1:16:24games yet? He's drafted number two in McDavid.
- 1:16:28He's drafted second overall. If McDavid paid...
- 1:16:31Yeah, true, true. As we say. David almost had
- 1:16:33a foul game. Eichel hasn't had that many injuries.
- 1:16:37Okay. Who would this last one be? Where did Reinhardt
- 1:16:41play? Is he from the W? The thing about it is
- 1:16:47I have a feeling he played for London. Ryan Hurd,
- 1:16:51I don't think he played for London. Oh, fuck.
- 1:16:53I want to say he was in the O. You can always
- 1:16:59do the lifeline. Someone tells me he played for
- 1:17:02Plymouth or something. I don't know. Yeah, let's
- 1:17:05do the lifeline for the WHL here. Speaking of.
- 1:17:12Too late now. Hi there, buddy. How you doing?
- 1:17:18Good, what's up? Hey. No, no, you're good. I
- 1:17:22guess, either number one, it's late and you're
- 1:17:25probably in bed, or number two, you're busy and
- 1:17:27hands full. We get it. I understand. So, we're
- 1:17:30actually, funny story, we're actually, right
- 1:17:34now, currently in the middle of recording the
- 1:17:37season finale for season five. Detroit and Anaheim?
- 1:18:12Was he one of them? He was one of them, yeah.
- 1:18:14So yeah, you're currently on speakerphone with
- 1:18:17the rest of the gentlemen here in the studio,
- 1:18:18so. We ended up going with Huso, right? Yeah,
- 1:18:21we went with Billy Huso, which was correct. But
- 1:18:26Fab Reader was also correct, so. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:18:31we were struggling. We were like, I know who
- 1:18:32to call! Our Detroit pro, man. we appreciate
- 1:18:43it man you got anything else to say before the
- 1:18:49season before we wrap it up here on this call
- 1:19:11Oh, thank you, buddy. I appreciate you calling
- 1:19:13me back, dude. Yep, not a problem. All right.
- 1:19:16See you, everybody. See ya. Hell yeah, man. Hell
- 1:19:21yeah. At least he called before we ended recording.
- 1:19:25Yeah. This is the lifeline here for the Debbie
- 1:19:29Luchel. Do 50 -50 or film a blade? Let's do 50
- 1:19:33-50. Make it difficult. Let us earn it here.
- 1:19:37Skinner or... Oh, yeah. It might be Skinner.
- 1:19:39Oh, because they both played. But which one's
- 1:19:42for all? No, Cain. Because Vander Cain played
- 1:19:44for London, didn't he? You're thinking of Patrick
- 1:19:47Cain. Oh, yeah. Oh. Jeffy, which one of those
- 1:19:52played in the O? Oh, Skinner did play in the
- 1:19:58O. Skinner played in the O? Yeah. So this one
- 1:20:00would be Vander Cain? Yep. And then top one would
- 1:20:03be Sam Reinhardt, right? It doesn't have to be
- 1:20:07then. I can't think of anybody else. I think
- 1:20:13it has to be Sam Reinhardt. Yeah, okay. Easy
- 1:20:21peasy. And Stu Barnes. Stu Barnes, that's a name
- 1:20:24I haven't heard in about 11 years. Michael Reinhardt,
- 1:20:29Pierre Lafontaine, Dave Andrew Chuck. Lafontaine,
- 1:20:33Pierre Hall. Thomas Vanek. Taylor Hall. Brad
- 1:20:38Boyce. Alex Tuck, Skinner. Alright. Hell yeah.
- 1:20:43And for the last time this season, Hurdle. Sure,
- 1:20:47let's do it. We're on a high. One of these times
- 1:21:04I'm just going to fucking pull it out of my ass.
- 1:21:06Bring it up again. So he is in the West and he
- 1:21:10is Canadian. I was thinking maybe like a Mark
- 1:21:17Scheifele? I was thinking Drew Dowdy. Oh, could
- 1:21:23be. Could be. I was thinking because he is longer.
- 1:21:27We know he's in the Pacific. So Dowdy. Dowdy's
- 1:21:31in the Pacific. I didn't pay attention to that
- 1:21:35at first. Okay. Canadian defenseman. His number
- 1:21:42is... Like five or below, so that's massive.
- 1:21:45No, no, no. Five, six, or seven. First number.
- 1:21:49Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:51So give me five, six, or seven. Plays in the
- 1:21:55West, not L .A. He's Canadian. Okay. Let's try
- 1:22:03to eliminate some of these Cali teams, maybe.
- 1:22:07Oh, could we get a Shea Theodore? I know he's
- 1:22:09number five. Where is he, though? Oh, Vegas.
- 1:22:16We have a couple shots, so... Vegas! Vegas! I
- 1:22:25was 27. I was a little off. Either way, we're
- 1:22:27in Vegas. There's a defenseman on Vegas who wears
- 1:22:295, 6, or 7. Ivan Barberchev's Russian. I think
- 1:22:34he's 4 or 2. Okay. I'm trying to think of all
- 1:22:38their defensemen. I'm just chatting out players
- 1:22:42with low numbers. Eichel's 9. Kessel's the last
- 1:22:48one to wear number 8. I'm trying to think of...
- 1:22:55Petriangelo? 27. No, it's Estinor's 27. I think
- 1:23:02Peter Gill is 7. But how old is he? How old is
- 1:23:06he? That's really the key factor. We can try
- 1:23:10it. I think he's like 30, 31. He'd be right on
- 1:23:12that. Oh, I guess it would take 29 and older.
- 1:23:14Well, we can try. I don't think it is, but it's
- 1:23:20P -I -E. Okay, he's 35 then. So, his number's
- 1:23:285 or 6. 5 or 6. It's not like Keaton Colesaw,
- 1:23:34right? He's a forward. Yeah, he's a forward.
- 1:23:37His number's 55. It's not like Nick Waugh. I
- 1:23:40think he's a forward, and I think he's like number
- 1:23:4110. Yeah. Damn it, my Vegas jersey isn't out
- 1:23:47to date. What about Nicholas Hagg? I think he's
- 1:23:50from Vegas. What is... Dang. We're going to get
- 1:23:57this fucking wrong. I'm going to be so mad. It's
- 1:24:00Canadian defenseman on Vegas. Like, we have that
- 1:24:03much in three. His number is either five or six.
- 1:24:20man like maybe somebody that might have been
- 1:24:22out which hasn't played in a little bit or even
- 1:24:24a third parent defenseman fifth sixth seventh
- 1:24:26defenseman that's what I'm trying to think Odie
- 1:24:36do you have anything to say no okay cool thanks
- 1:24:41brother I can't think of defensemen on Vegas.
- 1:24:54Peter Jello and Peter were the only two that
- 1:24:57I had in mind. Nick Waugh and Nick Hagg. I want
- 1:25:03to say Nick Hagg's his name, but I don't know
- 1:25:05what he... H -A -G -U -E. I was right. He is
- 1:25:12a defenseman. Okay. So he's either 23, 24, or
- 1:25:1625 years of age. I think he's only two years,
- 1:25:19so it's 24 or 25. 24 or 25. And his number is
- 1:25:235 or 6. Oh my god. He's younger. I sound like
- 1:25:41Matt Amodio. I'm pretty sure he's a forward.
- 1:25:46Do I see him? I don't think it's Nicholas Waugh.
- 1:25:52Or Nicholas Roy, I think that's how you say it.
- 1:25:56I'm pretty sure he's a forward. Oh, hold on.
- 1:26:07He's a forward, okay. He's Canadian, though.
- 1:26:09I was right on his number when I said 10 earlier.
- 1:26:13Oh, my God. I'm like 90 % sure Keaton Colstar
- 1:26:20is a forward. Yeah, and his number is 55, so
- 1:26:22he's out. You're right with the forward part,
- 1:26:25so. Number five or six on Vegas. I want to say
- 1:26:32it's five, but who is it? Paul Cotter? Oh, he's
- 1:26:46on Vegas. Jersey now? And he's American. So he's
- 1:26:5224 years of age. No, he's 24. 24 -year -old defenseman.
- 1:26:57Is this our last guest? It's our last guest,
- 1:26:59too. Oh, my God, dude. We're going to get this
- 1:27:02wrong. I'm going to be so fucking mad. Big stretch,
- 1:27:06Eddie. Big stretch. We're going to end the season
- 1:27:11like this, too. We can't do this. I think of
- 1:27:20guys maybe that have just came in or like trades.
- 1:27:24Was it a trade deadline accusation? Remember,
- 1:27:27this one doesn't really update that often. As
- 1:27:29often as... I think it's gotten better. Because
- 1:27:34I can just wonder if Carter played for Vegas
- 1:27:36this year. I can look that up because we already
- 1:27:38guessed them. I want to say Carter played this
- 1:27:41year. I guess he would have got traded. End of
- 1:27:49last season, okay. But I wasn't wrong. He did
- 1:27:53play for Vegas. I wasn't wrong. Oh, my God. They
- 1:27:57already said Nick Hagrid. They said Nick Hag.
- 1:27:59They said Nick Waugh. Peter Joe Theodore. Dude.
- 1:28:06Dude. Trevor VanDreamstack isn't over there.
- 1:28:09I think the part that's hard for me is... Any
- 1:28:12one of the VanDreamstack brothers would be too
- 1:28:14old. Way too old, yeah. I don't think it's Matt
- 1:28:34again. I don't think it's Matt Amodio. I'm pretty
- 1:28:36sure he's a forward. He's a 24, 21, something
- 1:28:40like that. Remember? It's not Matt Dumba. He
- 1:28:55doesn't play for Vegas. No, it's not Matt. His
- 1:28:58number is like 24, 26, something like that. Not
- 1:29:01Matt, dumbass. It's not Mark Giordano. He's one
- 1:29:07way too fucking old. And he's not even in Vegas.
- 1:29:11Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. He's number
- 1:29:13five for the majority of his career, wasn't he?
- 1:29:15That's the only thing I can think of. No, because
- 1:29:25Pavel Dobriyev would be probably Russian. Yeah.
- 1:29:32I'm trying to think maybe... I'm trying to think
- 1:29:35of four nations. Team. If he had been on that
- 1:29:41team, would he be too young to have made that
- 1:29:43roster? So it was in the Canadian defense on
- 1:29:49that team. I don't remember. Because I was always
- 1:29:53rooting against them. I'm going to give him number
- 1:30:04five, but who is it? Oh, man. I don't know. That's
- 1:30:11so depressing. We're such a good start. How do
- 1:30:17you spell that, madam? M -A -M -A -D -I -O? Try
- 1:30:28that again. I'm sorry. A -M -A -D -I -O? And
- 1:30:34a Michael Lodeo right there. Who? Caden Korczak.
- 1:30:44Okay. What's the number five? Fucking who? I
- 1:30:50think he's one of those. He's like their bottom
- 1:30:52pairing defenseman, like you said. Fucking who?
- 1:30:57You were right. Like you said, the seventh defenseman.
- 1:31:01Let's see number five. Yeah, he's not even listed
- 1:31:05as their top six in their roster. That's why.
- 1:31:12Who?! We were doing so good, too. Man. Who the
- 1:31:24hell's gonna guess that? No offense, dude, but
- 1:31:27who the fuck's gonna guess that? Is he listed
- 1:31:31on their roster? He is listed on the roster on
- 1:31:35the app. Oh, he only played 13 games? No, this
- 1:31:41is us. Oh, okay. He played 40 games and only
- 1:31:46had 10 assists. Did he even play in the playoffs?
- 1:31:50He played one game in the playoffs, that's why.
- 1:31:53I wouldn't have guessed it. Even if I would have
- 1:31:56thought of that name, I don't think I would have
- 1:31:57guessed him to be Canadian. Nope. Who? God, that's
- 1:32:02honestly really frustrating. That's not how you
- 1:32:04want to end the season, man. Oh well, no. And
- 1:32:07we had a pretty good, pretty good Pukudoku, though,
- 1:32:09so. And Pyramid. Perfected the Pyramid and perfected
- 1:32:12the actual Pukudoku. Two for three. Well, can't
- 1:32:15really be too upset about it. Not bad. We'll
- 1:32:17take that. We'll take that. Not bad, not bad,
- 1:32:19not bad. But yeah, that about does it for Season
- 1:32:255. While you guys say whatever remarks you need
- 1:32:27to say, I'll be back in one second. So let's
- 1:32:29keep our own, right? Let Cone sneak his way out
- 1:32:33of here. My juicy self out of here. We have like
- 1:32:37five seasons of this, man. It's just... It's
- 1:32:41hard to believe. We're now at almost 4 ,000 total
- 1:32:45downloads and listeners, whatever. I don't know
- 1:32:50exactly how it all works. I can't bring up the
- 1:32:52exact number here. What do you got to say, Jeffy?
- 1:32:59Let's see. Been another great season, which is
- 1:33:05hard to believe, like, what costs a five -season
- 1:33:08into it all. Like, it feels like just yesterday
- 1:33:11we were just starting season one. But that tells
- 1:33:17you how time flies. All -time, we're at 38 -57.
- 1:33:24That's just down, though. I have no idea what
- 1:33:26we'd be for, like, all -time listens. But that
- 1:33:29is just... downloads, 38 .57%. Which that is
- 1:33:34up 130 % in the last 30 days. We've seen 177
- 1:33:38in the last 30 days. Apple Podcasts, ever since
- 1:33:43going to Apple Podcasts and expanding. Chromo,
- 1:33:46we've had 62%. Amazon and Apple Podcasts, each
- 1:33:496%. Expanding is probably the best thing we did
- 1:33:53there. We're getting a lot more listeners on
- 1:33:56those platforms. It's crazy. It feels like yesterday
- 1:34:03we were wrapping up season one. I'm going to
- 1:34:06miss this. I do miss it. It's nice to have that
- 1:34:08off time. Much as you love hockey, I'll still
- 1:34:12talk about hockey day in, day out, every single
- 1:34:14day, 24 hours a day. I can't tell how often I'm
- 1:34:18talking to co -workers. I'm always talking. I
- 1:34:22don't have many co -workers that like hockey.
- 1:34:24My work is more football. Do you have anything
- 1:34:26to say, Otis? No. Come on, one final time. This
- 1:34:32might be your last time to be vocal on here.
- 1:34:35Well, that's a bad thing to say, no. I don't
- 1:34:39know. This is going to be your last time for
- 1:34:40a while. Got anything to say? No. It's coming
- 1:34:45until at least September, October. Yeah. As I
- 1:34:49know, we've got a lot of exciting things coming
- 1:34:52up here very soon. Obviously, excited for Season
- 1:34:566. Season 6, we've got the draft coming up. We've
- 1:34:59got free agency coming up. But again, we might
- 1:35:01do an episode, like a very short 20 -minute,
- 1:35:0530 -minute episode. You know, mid -July to recap
- 1:35:07any, if there's a lot of big trades. Again, it
- 1:35:09all depends on how much signings, how many signings
- 1:35:12there are, how many trades there are to discuss.
- 1:35:14I know I think we did it in Season 2 and 3. I
- 1:35:17don't think we did it after Season 4. So I guess
- 1:35:20we'll wait and see if we do it after Season 5
- 1:35:23here. Again, it all depends on how much does
- 1:35:26go on. in this off -season. Maybe even wait to
- 1:35:31give it a full month. Maybe wait until the end
- 1:35:32of July and then we'll come together and see
- 1:35:34what we want to do. So then, first episode of
- 1:35:36season six isn't three and a half hours long.
- 1:35:42Yeah. I think that wraps up season five. Oh,
- 1:35:53yeah. Very long. This one felt longer. I think
- 1:35:58it's the latest we've ever ended the season.
- 1:36:01No, last year. I think season two, I think we
- 1:36:04were going into July. Yeah, we were like, we
- 1:36:07posted and a couple days later it was Independence
- 1:36:09Day. So, we're a week earlier than last year.
- 1:36:14So, thank Christ. It's time for a break, boys.
- 1:36:18As much as I love talking hockey, as much as
- 1:36:20I love doing this, not every week, but you know,
- 1:36:22bi -weekly or as much as we do it. A break is
- 1:36:26good. Everybody needs that break. It's going
- 1:36:29to be nice to have it. A lot of discussions to
- 1:36:32be had. Thank you guys so much. Like I said,
- 1:36:35almost 4 ,000 total all -time downloads across
- 1:36:38all platforms. Again, expanding to posting on
- 1:36:42YouTube now, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts. Probably
- 1:36:47the best thing we've done because we have, I
- 1:36:49think, gone up almost well over 1 ,000 this season
- 1:36:51alone, which is insane. Thank you guys very much.
- 1:36:56Can't wait to see you guys for Season 6. I would
- 1:37:00say keep an eye on our social medias, but again,
- 1:37:01like I said, this is probably going to be the
- 1:37:04one offseason we are not going to promise anything.
- 1:37:06It's probably going to be a very, very quiet
- 1:37:08offseason for us. Quietest offseason we're going
- 1:37:11to have since between Seasons 1 and 2. Probably.
- 1:37:15Maybe end of July we'll recap everything that
- 1:37:18happened. Again, we'll come together. We'll see
- 1:37:20what happens. with that. Maybe we'll post something
- 1:37:23whether we are going to or not with that. But,
- 1:37:26yeah, that about does it. And, uh, thank you
- 1:37:30guys. We will call it there. Yeah, thank you
- 1:37:35guys. See ya! Yeah, I'm done. Okay.
