- 1:45Speaker 1: and if you're an entrepreneur your business, please work with
- 1:48Speaker 1: the money making conversation. She's my friend, Ki Ki care
- 1:51Speaker 1: Shared Kelly. How you doing my friend? I am doing well?
- 1:55Speaker 1: How are you well? I'm excited? You know, I always
- 1:58Speaker 1: get excited talking to because you're in this rational to me.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I have a twenty three year old daughter, and so
- 2:03Speaker 1: whenever you come on the show, I look for You're
- 2:06Speaker 1: the people in her peer group, you know, because you're
- 2:09Speaker 1: she looked to up to you. She follows you. She
- 2:12Speaker 1: she finds uh your unblinding faith, your your ability to
- 2:16Speaker 1: achieve success. And I usually as an example a lot
- 2:19Speaker 1: of times. So whenever you come on the show, I'm
- 2:21Speaker 1: always excited and she gets excited. So her name is
- 2:24Speaker 1: Christiana McDonald's. But thank you. Now let's talk about this book.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Before we talk about book, let's talk about now that
- 2:31Speaker 1: the movie been out. You know, because when I interviewed you,
- 2:34Speaker 1: the movie came out. But now we've had a year
- 2:37Speaker 1: of the movie being out. How has that transformed your life?
- 2:40Speaker 1: The movie I'm talking about is The Clark's Sisters First
- 2:43Speaker 1: Ladies of Gospel. Well, it has changed my life in
- 2:46Speaker 1: so many ways. One way is when I go to
- 2:48Speaker 1: the store, now I seem like more people know who
- 2:51Speaker 1: I am and they're relating to me as Karen or
- 2:54Speaker 1: calling me Karen. So it has changed my life in
- 2:58Speaker 1: that way. But it also stretched me to be honest.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Um trying to portray my mother vocally and just as
- 3:04Speaker 1: a person, because she's so gracious and she's like a
- 3:07Speaker 1: quiet storm who is not intimidated by people. But it
- 3:11Speaker 1: comes off as like an innocence or like a it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: just so soft. I had to kind of pull back
- 3:17Speaker 1: while working on that role. So it's changed my life
- 3:20Speaker 1: as a woman. And I think it prepared me to
- 3:23Speaker 1: not knowing then while I was actually doing the role
- 3:26Speaker 1: as a single woman, that is preparing me to be
- 3:28Speaker 1: a wife and a mother, just to see things differently. Um,
- 3:31Speaker 1: So it really has changed my life in so many ways.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Of course it was a resume builder, but it was
- 3:37Speaker 1: me performing for my mother, and so it was really
- 3:39Speaker 1: special for me. Well, it was special in a lot
- 3:41Speaker 1: of ways because you know, you reveal, you pull back
- 3:44Speaker 1: to the curtain. In other words, you know, they told
- 3:46Speaker 1: a story about your grandmother, told a story about your
- 3:49Speaker 1: mom and her sister's experience in dealing with your grandmother,
- 3:52Speaker 1: someone who was rather sensitive, and which is great because
- 3:55Speaker 1: it was a story by a woman pushing her children
- 3:58Speaker 1: to be the best that they could be. And I
- 3:59Speaker 1: kind take that away and fast forward. I look at
- 4:02Speaker 1: the book Big, Bold, and Beautiful. That book is about
- 4:06Speaker 1: pushing you and your friends pushing you and helping you
- 4:09Speaker 1: and supporting you to be the best key key you
- 4:12Speaker 1: can be? Is that correct? Absolutely? And I'm it's so
- 4:16Speaker 1: important because you know, I'm a woman to face. So
- 4:19Speaker 1: I believe in the scripture when it says that iron
- 4:21Speaker 1: sharping's iron. And I was just talking to my friend
- 4:23Speaker 1: Tasha Covs Leonard, and she brought out a great point.
- 4:26Speaker 1: She said, Keith, when you say iron sharping's iron, it
- 4:29Speaker 1: could be negative iron that's sharpening negative iron ore. It
- 4:33Speaker 1: could be positive versus positive. And so I think it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: so important what I talked about it in the book
- 4:38Speaker 1: Self Care has everything to do with your squad. You know,
- 4:42Speaker 1: how they're pouring into you, how they're pushing you into destiny,
- 4:45Speaker 1: how they're reminding you of the promises of God. You
- 4:47Speaker 1: have people around you who's always picking at you, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: negative Nancy or negative Joe or whoever you want to
- 4:54Speaker 1: call it. It's like it'll drain you and will cause
- 4:56Speaker 1: you to believe the complete opposite of what you've been dreaming.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So think it's so important to be very particular what
- 5:02Speaker 1: who's in your space, because you can ask somebody that's
- 5:05Speaker 1: against you and they can cover themselves up. It's like
- 5:08Speaker 1: a what do they say, a wolve in sheep's clothing.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So it's so important that we are selective in that area. Yes, well,
- 5:14Speaker 1: you know it's important we talk about this. I'm a
- 5:16Speaker 1: slow everything down because I want everybody to understand the
- 5:19Speaker 1: value of this book. And it's not a value that
- 5:23Speaker 1: just a female gender can can take. Nugget to wait,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'm a successful in person in this business. I'm a male.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And when I started reading the book, I went, Okay,
- 5:34Speaker 1: relatable because one of the chapters where you talk about
- 5:38Speaker 1: I always have a phrase, you know, you can't save everyone.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You know, you only have one life jacket. You gotta
- 5:43Speaker 1: let them go. You talk about it, and one of
- 5:44Speaker 1: your chapters about that about people around you and not
- 5:47Speaker 1: understanding that you know, you can't worry sometimes about other
- 5:50Speaker 1: people's rent or the food on their table if they're
- 5:54Speaker 1: not if they don't worry about it, and there's a
- 5:56Speaker 1: chapter about that, and it was really from a business
- 6:00Speaker 1: from a life perspective. I was floored at the relatability
- 6:05Speaker 1: because I go, wow, this is how I think. And
- 6:07Speaker 1: so when some people do memoirs and you're such a
- 6:10Speaker 1: young person, I'm gonna I'm gonna remind you that you're
- 6:12Speaker 1: a young person. And but you also say I've lived
- 6:14Speaker 1: an adults life, you know, and so and We're gonna
- 6:17Speaker 1: get into that in the book, because but let's talk
- 6:19Speaker 1: about that the whole chapter where you wrote about people
- 6:22Speaker 1: around you and then you're taking it personal how you
- 6:24Speaker 1: should treat them. You over worry about them what they
- 6:27Speaker 1: think about you, because it does as an entrepreneur, beyond
- 6:31Speaker 1: a relationship can be damaging. Correct, absolutely. And one thing
- 6:36Speaker 1: that I've learned, and I talked about it in the book,
- 6:38Speaker 1: is that when dealing with people, you have to understand
- 6:40Speaker 1: you're not just dealing with what you have on the surface,
- 6:43Speaker 1: but you're also dealing with the culture that they've come from,
- 6:46Speaker 1: the trauma that they've experienced. So you're not just responding
- 6:49Speaker 1: in that moment to the comment they made. It's a
- 6:51Speaker 1: lot of things that are behind that statement. You know,
- 6:55Speaker 1: when we communicate with each other or sometimes and I
- 6:58Speaker 1: know where in the culture now where everybody is living
- 7:00Speaker 1: for the read ready to let somebody have it. I'm
- 7:02Speaker 1: about to show this person lives sleep while they sleep.
- 7:04Speaker 1: But I guess for me, the way I have been
- 7:07Speaker 1: moving through life, what has changed my perspective is to
- 7:10Speaker 1: simply understand you're not just responding to the person, You're
- 7:13Speaker 1: responding to their life. Circumstances that have molded them into
- 7:17Speaker 1: who they are today. And some people do things and
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's not everything should not be taken personally. So I
- 7:22Speaker 1: absolutely agree with you. And if we don't have that understanding,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and if we're always taking things personally, will always be
- 7:28Speaker 1: responding to any and everything to where it will take
- 7:32Speaker 1: so much energy. It will shift our focus off of
- 7:34Speaker 1: what we really should be focused on onto that person
- 7:38Speaker 1: and just that scenario. And so I have had to
- 7:41Speaker 1: learn that the picture is bigger than me. It's it's
- 7:44Speaker 1: so far beyond one moment, like be a student at
- 7:47Speaker 1: every opportunity you get. But even in the book I
- 7:50Speaker 1: talk about, it's a chapter called making the most of
- 7:53Speaker 1: Every Opportunity, And I just had to learn that after
- 7:57Speaker 1: chapter four. It is the chapter where Shimika, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and y'all went to West Africa, you know. And because
- 8:04Speaker 1: y'all read your book now, I read your book. Now,
- 8:08Speaker 1: it's the beauty of this book. Okay, uh, we're talking
- 8:11Speaker 1: about I'm talking to Keiki or kre She or Kelly.
- 8:15Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about Jordan in a minute, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: because she had to she had to figure out how
- 8:19Speaker 1: to find him, and she talks about that journey because
- 8:22Speaker 1: sometimes you know, at one point in life. Let me
- 8:24Speaker 1: get ahead of the story, because I want to go
- 8:26Speaker 1: back a little bit about This is why I really
- 8:28Speaker 1: loved the book, because you're You're beautiful, your your your faith.
- 8:34Speaker 1: You come from a legacy family or gospel, and sometimes
- 8:38Speaker 1: people can see a certain degree of perfection. And we
- 8:42Speaker 1: talk about that a little bit in your book, you know,
- 8:44Speaker 1: the silver Spoon chapter and finding yourself. And in the
- 8:49Speaker 1: process of that, when you talk about the bad relationship,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I went, wow, you know, because people don't think you
- 8:54Speaker 1: have a bad relationship. People don't think that you have
- 8:57Speaker 1: bad days. And I felt to me and it's written
- 9:01Speaker 1: early on in the book, because I thought that was
- 9:03Speaker 1: important because any young reader, especially young women readers, I
- 9:07Speaker 1: thought that was important that you allowed yourself to show
- 9:11Speaker 1: us the side of you that we didn't see. We see.
- 9:13Speaker 1: We see success, we see awards, we see a happy marriage,
- 9:17Speaker 1: we see photo ops in essence and magazines and online.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But that was important that you wrote the truth to
- 9:24Speaker 1: a degree of showing people that I am just like you.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I have bad days, I make mistakes in the men
- 9:31Speaker 1: that I select, I am not perfect. Tell us about
- 9:34Speaker 1: the importance of that. Well, first, it's important. At one
- 9:38Speaker 1: scenario that I remember when I started to understand the
- 9:42Speaker 1: significance in the process of healing is when I fell
- 9:45Speaker 1: off of a bike. And I think I talked about
- 9:48Speaker 1: this in the book, but I fell off of a
- 9:49Speaker 1: bike and my mom, of course, she told me, you
- 9:52Speaker 1: know what to do, go ahead and put on the
- 9:54Speaker 1: band aid. But she noticed that I kept getting in
- 9:56Speaker 1: the tub and taking showers with the same band aid,
- 9:59Speaker 1: not cleaning it, and just the sore or the scalp
- 10:01Speaker 1: began to get soggy, so it wasn't healing properly, so
- 10:05Speaker 1: it was becoming something more than what it actually was
- 10:08Speaker 1: in that moment. So speaking of transparency and letting these
- 10:11Speaker 1: things out, it's a part of healing. You have to
- 10:14Speaker 1: let oxygen into your wound so that they can heal properly.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And that's what I'm doing through my life and through
- 10:20Speaker 1: me speaking about it, through me talking about it, but
- 10:22Speaker 1: not only that this form appealing which as a woman
- 10:25Speaker 1: of faith, there's a scripture that says confess your thoughts
- 10:28Speaker 1: one to another that you may receive healing. Therapy did
- 10:31Speaker 1: not come from culture. Therapy came from God. He says,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna give you people that you can talk to.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But the latter part of that scripture says, the prayers
- 10:40Speaker 1: of the righteous avail. If much, it's just all in
- 10:43Speaker 1: who I talk to. If I'm talking to the right person,
- 10:46Speaker 1: a righteous individual, I can trust that then they can
- 10:49Speaker 1: carry my secrets, carry my issues, and then take them
- 10:52Speaker 1: to God, because I need someone to take me to
- 10:54Speaker 1: God or carry me to God when I can't get
- 10:57Speaker 1: myself to them. And so that even speaks to the
- 10:59Speaker 1: self squad piece of it. But that's why I wanted
- 11:02Speaker 1: to be transparent here, because I want you to know
- 11:05Speaker 1: that I can relate. And I think the connectivity again,
- 11:08Speaker 1: like we've mentioned, it's all in providing a solution for
- 11:12Speaker 1: someone who may feel like they're alone. Very often will
- 11:15Speaker 1: soak in it, will get into depression, will become anxious,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and it's because we feel like we're alone. And so
- 11:21Speaker 1: with this conversational approach and me hoping that the reader
- 11:24Speaker 1: will be like, you know what, this is my girl,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I can relate, I connect I'm hoping that they will
- 11:29Speaker 1: become free from listening and reading to that so reading
- 11:32Speaker 1: the book, So that was my whole intent transparency is
- 11:35Speaker 1: healing me, but it's in return healing the reader as well.
- 11:39Speaker 1: It's finally here, the season of celebration, and no matter
- 11:42Speaker 1: how you celebrate with family and friends, whether you're preparing

- 13:37Speaker 1: attitude in this book to first with that do and
- 13:39Speaker 1: do he gonna call you unattractive and mess with your weight?
- 13:43Speaker 1: And you could, Hey, maybe my bigness is just too
- 13:46Speaker 1: enough for your smallness. I went, hey, and you know
- 13:51Speaker 1: what it's so many of us who allow people to
- 13:54Speaker 1: speak to us in and sometimes it comes from places
- 13:57Speaker 1: we don't expect and just answer your question and there
- 14:01Speaker 1: because I know I went a far left field, but
- 14:03Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about it because I had to
- 14:05Speaker 1: get it wrong for me to understand what was right.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And that's what led me to my husband. Now this
- 14:11Speaker 1: healthy relationship. Like before, I was like, Hey, I want
- 14:14Speaker 1: to pray in my relationships, or I want you to
- 14:17Speaker 1: call me a little bit more often, send me a
- 14:19Speaker 1: text check on me. In another relationship that was too
- 14:22Speaker 1: much for them. But now that I'm with my husband,
- 14:25Speaker 1: and just in the first dating steps of you know,
- 14:27Speaker 1: with Jordan's, he showed me that I wasn't too much.
- 14:31Speaker 1: It was just that I was asking someone who only
- 14:34Speaker 1: had a pint um to pour into this gallon size
- 14:38Speaker 1: of Now I'm with Jordan's, he can give me a gallant,
- 14:41Speaker 1: I can give him a gallant with filling each other up.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And so that's why I wanted to tell young women
- 14:47Speaker 1: that to the other problem was speaking of young people.
- 14:50Speaker 1: My father told me the rue word of dating is data.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Talk about money making conversations we put up ourselves for
- 14:57Speaker 1: discount Louis Batton, don't go on discount. Why do you
- 15:00Speaker 1: think you need to put yourself up on discount. So
- 15:03Speaker 1: make sure you understand that you don't have to play
- 15:06Speaker 1: white to someone that's only making themselves available as boyfriend.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Play the game, and as Steve Harvey said, think act
- 15:14Speaker 1: like a woman, but think like a man. And so
- 15:16Speaker 1: that's why I had to play the game and I
- 15:18Speaker 1: had to learn Listen, I may not be your comp
- 15:20Speaker 1: of tea, but I'm for show a hot, spicy compan tea.
- 15:25Speaker 1: It's some it's some ginger in there. Okay, I'm telling you,
- 15:29Speaker 1: this is the book. This is the book. I'll tell you.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm tells I am so excited. You know this,
- 15:37Speaker 1: this whole book, the Big Bowl and Beautiful owning the
- 15:40Speaker 1: woman God made you to be. And that's just a
- 15:44Speaker 1: sample size of what came out and just hit me
- 15:46Speaker 1: in my face in a positive way because this is
- 15:51Speaker 1: we're in an interesting life because, like you said, when
- 15:53Speaker 1: you was eighteen, in the period when you hit the record,
- 15:56Speaker 1: labels the only one to take pictures of your face
- 15:58Speaker 1: and profiles. They didn't really want to take a picture
- 16:01Speaker 1: of your full body. That was before you know, the
- 16:04Speaker 1: curved Dove came out with those curvy ads and the
- 16:07Speaker 1: curvy full figure models were hitting the runways and all that.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Talk about that period because I have a lot of
- 16:12Speaker 1: parents listening to the show, and I may have some
- 16:16Speaker 1: young adults, especially women, and this is about the section.
- 16:18Speaker 1: I really want to focus on the women conversation because
- 16:21Speaker 1: men in journal don't have the physical size issues that
- 16:24Speaker 1: women have to deal with. Because commercials tell you should
- 16:27Speaker 1: look like this, commercial print asks tell you should wear
- 16:30Speaker 1: this size and things like that, and then we're gonna
- 16:33Speaker 1: get into you being launching that that that what someone
- 16:35Speaker 1: would consider a negative experience into a successful business eleven sixty.
- 16:40Speaker 1: But talk about when you was eighteen at the record label. Yeah,
- 16:44Speaker 1: I'm so excited that you wed, But I have to say, um,
- 16:51Speaker 1: that was an interesting experience. And I think I mentioned
- 16:55Speaker 1: before while we were talking. Sometimes you have this pushback
- 16:59Speaker 1: from years that you didn't expect it, and it can
- 17:02Speaker 1: be from places that you trusted, hoping that it will
- 17:04Speaker 1: be a place to that would build you up. But
- 17:07Speaker 1: that's the moment where you figure out, oh, you're there
- 17:10Speaker 1: to tear me down. It was just you had to
- 17:12Speaker 1: get in good with me and so I definitely had
- 17:15Speaker 1: that that experience where, um, you know, I just dealt
- 17:18Speaker 1: with industry pressure and um it's simple as I am.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I often still have to tell people, you know, listen,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I love God. I'm a simple girl. I don't want
- 17:28Speaker 1: to always put on And I think this, uh, the
- 17:31Speaker 1: new culture and even the listeners and the demo, they're
- 17:35Speaker 1: learning that I don't got to do all of that,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you know anymore. And if I don't, there is an
- 17:41Speaker 1: audience that is waiting to hear from me. And of course,
- 17:45Speaker 1: now I'm not saying don't change your position in heart,
- 17:48Speaker 1: because I think it's so important that we remain students
- 17:51Speaker 1: at heart, because that's what makes you timeless. But I think, uh,
- 17:55Speaker 1: the other piece that young women should know is to
- 17:58Speaker 1: not compare yourselves. Uh. I think Theodore Roosevelt said before
- 18:02Speaker 1: that comparison is the thief of joy. You'll find yourself
- 18:05Speaker 1: trying to catch up with culture saying is the pretty
- 18:08Speaker 1: thing to do or the thing to do, and find
- 18:10Speaker 1: that it's unobtainable for you because that was never for you,
- 18:14Speaker 1: that wasn't assigned to you. And so speaking of the
- 18:16Speaker 1: word big in this this book, uh, it was it
- 18:20Speaker 1: was an insecurity for me once upon a time. But
- 18:22Speaker 1: I had to stop asking people what they thought about
- 18:25Speaker 1: me in my life, and I had to ask God,
- 18:27Speaker 1: what do you think? Let me ask the inventor about
- 18:30Speaker 1: his invention rather than going with people. That's just trying
- 18:33Speaker 1: to figure out how do I stay in touch with you?
- 18:35Speaker 1: But I have those chapters in the book, and one
- 18:37Speaker 1: chapter chapter eight, and says stop comparing you. I'm gonna
- 18:42Speaker 1: mad at you. You stole my thought because I'm about
- 18:44Speaker 1: to say that chapter eight, I'm about to say, stop
- 18:45Speaker 1: comparing yourself. It's chapter eight. You're making me mad. Now,
- 18:49Speaker 1: I gotta let you know I love this book, girl,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I love the book. That's chapter eight. You were just
- 18:55Speaker 1: recited chapter eight, Yes, sir, And I was gonna throw
- 18:58Speaker 1: out there chapter um chapter fourteen to where I say,
- 19:03Speaker 1: stop looking at the other woman because you've got the
- 19:06Speaker 1: Jews sometimes. The court I love out of chapter eight
- 19:09Speaker 1: is no one had the power to be me. Yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: that's and that's the quote I wrote down out of
- 19:15Speaker 1: chapter eight. That's why I still with me, because you know,
- 19:19Speaker 1: you know, I'm having a great conversation and with you,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and I just want to just let you know that
- 19:24Speaker 1: it resonated with me because in the end, you know,
- 19:29Speaker 1: writing the book, you know, I've been fortunate to be
- 19:31Speaker 1: around individuals who have written a successful books. And as
- 19:33Speaker 1: you start to write, you have a story, but then
- 19:35Speaker 1: you start taking layers off and you go, wow, I
- 19:38Speaker 1: forgot about that. I forgot about that. And then I
- 19:42Speaker 1: know in writing this book, layers are starting to get
- 19:45Speaker 1: peel back. And it's also is a relief, Like like
- 19:49Speaker 1: you said, to be able to tell your story was
- 19:50Speaker 1: a blessing for the reader, but also a blessing from
- 19:54Speaker 1: you for you because of the fact that you would
- 19:57Speaker 1: able to get these layers out of realize how much
- 19:59Speaker 1: you've grown as a person, because at one point in
- 20:02Speaker 1: your life you just want to get married. You just
- 20:04Speaker 1: felt that was a need to get married. And I
- 20:06Speaker 1: want to bring that up because sometimes a man in
- 20:10Speaker 1: this case, because you're a woman, a man would walk
- 20:12Speaker 1: into your life. That doesn't mean that's the man. And
- 20:16Speaker 1: and and that's what this book talks about. Because the
- 20:19Speaker 1: man that she eventually got with, who had that gallon
- 20:22Speaker 1: of water because she needed a gallon of water, she
- 20:25Speaker 1: had known him all her life. He had been walking
- 20:29Speaker 1: around all his and he didn't even know it either,
- 20:32Speaker 1: So it wasn't on her. It wasn't just on her
- 20:34Speaker 1: not seeing that that that they both were walking into
- 20:37Speaker 1: church or walking through life half field, they had eventually
- 20:41Speaker 1: slowed down and realized we've been looking at the wrong
- 20:45Speaker 1: opportunity when the opportunity was sitting right across the aisle
- 20:48Speaker 1: in this case church. Talk about that. Come on, I
- 20:51Speaker 1: know I'm preaching a little bit for your miss I
- 20:53Speaker 1: kick you know what I'm saying. You are dropping jazz
- 20:59Speaker 1: and I loving it. Um, I can only agree with you,
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think to a part of that evolution for me
- 21:06Speaker 1: was me having the time of being single. So there's
- 21:10Speaker 1: also a chapter in the book where I talk about
- 21:12Speaker 1: being successfully single because you have to find yourself because,
- 21:17Speaker 1: like you said, every person that comes in your life
- 21:20Speaker 1: that ain't always the one. And I think it goes
- 21:23Speaker 1: back a point to the again to the point that
- 21:26Speaker 1: Dad mentioned, which was date the person, collect the information
- 21:30Speaker 1: so you can draw the conclusion or the final result.
- 21:35Speaker 1: So I definitely agree. I think you said it all.
- 21:38Speaker 1: But again my husband showed me that no, you're not complicated.
- 21:42Speaker 1: It's just you were asking the wrong person to love
- 21:44Speaker 1: on you and they weren't equipped to give you what
- 21:47Speaker 1: you needed. And so I definitely agree with that. An't
- 21:51Speaker 1: and I think too if we're not careful because we
- 21:54Speaker 1: are in the wrong place, will begin settling. We'll say
- 21:57Speaker 1: I've been asking for this, I've been praying for this,
- 22:00Speaker 1: and we'll look at everybody else's like like I said,
- 22:03Speaker 1: once in fun a time, what was Sierra's prayer with
- 22:06Speaker 1: Russell Um And so I understand what that's like. But
- 22:09Speaker 1: we also have to get to a place where I'm
- 22:12Speaker 1: not settling for anything outside of what I asked for. Like, no,
- 22:17Speaker 1: that it's out there. If God put it in you
- 22:19Speaker 1: uh to ask for it in prayer, if you have
- 22:21Speaker 1: the audacity to think of it, then it's obtainable. It's
- 22:25Speaker 1: just make sure you're available and open to love. But
- 22:28Speaker 1: I was so closed off and wanting one thing to
- 22:31Speaker 1: work that I completely had shut off every you know,
- 22:34Speaker 1: all of the great possibilities. So I agree with you. Well,
- 22:38Speaker 1: you know, by the way successfully singles chapter twelve, Okay,
- 22:43Speaker 1: chapter just laid down. No, we just breaking down the
- 22:46Speaker 1: chapters as you go along, because now I want to
- 22:48Speaker 1: go back before we wrap up. I wanted to talk
- 22:50Speaker 1: about the entrepreneurship because that's a part of this that
- 22:53Speaker 1: really blew this book up for me because it's written
- 22:58Speaker 1: from a woman's perspective, but it also layers out how
- 23:02Speaker 1: you took a negative you know, uh and turn it
- 23:05Speaker 1: into a business. But along the way you had to
- 23:09Speaker 1: uh you know, because because it was a link that
- 23:12Speaker 1: I think Lukisha sent to you, the Lukisha sent to
- 23:16Speaker 1: you that that enabled you to get into Macy's. And
- 23:19Speaker 1: so that's why you say you are the ball. That's
- 23:22Speaker 1: the that's the God is the ball. Ball, God is
- 23:24Speaker 1: your agent. That's that chapter. God is that a chapter?
- 23:27Speaker 1: And I tell okay, I um, you know, I for
- 23:36Speaker 1: the reason I'm excited because you know, I've interviewed you
- 23:39Speaker 1: and we we we've we've we've because we like our tone.
- 23:44Speaker 1: But to really see how beautiful you are and how
- 23:47Speaker 1: how you you you giving us a blessing in this
- 23:50Speaker 1: book to be able to change lives. That's because that's
- 23:53Speaker 1: what I think, like a man uh did for a
- 23:55Speaker 1: lot of women. It just opened their eyes. And this
- 23:58Speaker 1: book can do so much much for so many young women,
- 24:02Speaker 1: women who are trying to start businesses, women who are
- 24:05Speaker 1: frustrating relationship, women who are doubting themselves, physically, mentally, emotionally,
- 24:10Speaker 1: but more importantly, the fastest growing business or franchise of
- 24:15Speaker 1: of of of the business world, or women and especially
- 24:19Speaker 1: women of color. And to write a book where I
- 24:21Speaker 1: think lends so many value lessons of how to because
- 24:26Speaker 1: I've even talked about Courtney, and Courtney that's your ride
- 24:29Speaker 1: or die? You know what I'm saying. When Ball was
- 24:31Speaker 1: being stupid, you called Courtney and she didn't say nothing
- 24:34Speaker 1: negative about you, she didn't throw it back in your face.
- 24:36Speaker 1: She said, hey, come with me, girl, Let's go over here.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Let's keep supporting you. And so, but these are the
- 24:41Speaker 1: people that you talk about. You lay out, you said, Richard,
- 24:44Speaker 1: you gotta have the people because you know, it was
- 24:45Speaker 1: funny when you were talking about Courtney. I was thinking
- 24:48Speaker 1: about my ride to die? Dude, who is that person?
- 24:50Speaker 1: So you made me sit back and go, Okay, Mr Successful,
- 24:54Speaker 1: who is your Courtney? Because you gotta have a Courtney.
- 24:57Speaker 1: You gotta have somebody to call when you die, because
- 24:59Speaker 1: you're gonna have down ags, you have doubtful days. Who
- 25:02Speaker 1: was that person? But more importantly that led you to
- 25:05Speaker 1: become an entrepreneur and that's where you had you know,
- 25:08Speaker 1: your your other girls stepping in when you travel made
- 25:11Speaker 1: with all over the world, career, everything for your business.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It was sitting right there with you at Macy's launching.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Your didn't know what you were really doing, but you
- 25:19Speaker 1: did it. That's the faith. But there was also having
- 25:22Speaker 1: somebody support your dream. Talk about that. It's so important.
- 25:26Speaker 1: And I've been in a space where I've had people
- 25:29Speaker 1: around that were there, you know, just by work and happenstance,
- 25:34Speaker 1: but they weren't really in my corner. They didn't understand
- 25:37Speaker 1: my vision um. And it's like, you know, okay, how
- 25:39Speaker 1: do we collaborate together? How are we? You know, life
- 25:42Speaker 1: partners is not just in the marriage and has everything
- 25:45Speaker 1: to to do with your purpose. When you make decisions
- 25:48Speaker 1: in your work or in your career, it shouldn't feel
- 25:51Speaker 1: like work. It should feel like fun, Like I'm just
- 25:54Speaker 1: I'm just living on purpose. This is just what I'm
- 25:56Speaker 1: called to do. And I think that when you're rareful
- 26:00Speaker 1: and asking God Lord, give me this sense of dissernment
- 26:03Speaker 1: so I can know who is assigned to me and
- 26:06Speaker 1: who's supposed to walk this journey for me or with me.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Because there are expiration dates on some relationships and connections
- 26:13Speaker 1: that we have, but if we don't respect them, then
- 26:16Speaker 1: we'll get exasperated, we can become sick. It's like if
- 26:19Speaker 1: we drink some milk that has an expiration date on it,
- 26:22Speaker 1: eventually it will make us sick. Our bodies won't respond
- 26:25Speaker 1: well to it. And so it's the same thing with people.
- 26:27Speaker 1: So you said it again from reading the book, but
- 26:30Speaker 1: it's so important to make sure that tribe and I
- 26:33Speaker 1: talk about it again twice. So it was squad goes
- 26:36Speaker 1: and then there was another chapter called finding your tribe.
- 26:39Speaker 1: When you're going out into the earth, you it's not
- 26:42Speaker 1: you can't fight everything. You need somebody to have your back.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And so those names that you called, they're simply women
- 26:49Speaker 1: who I have said. It's family. And you know what,
- 26:51Speaker 1: if you allow me as a woman of faith, I'm
- 26:53Speaker 1: always giving scripture. But there's a scripture that says, um,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I will give you a friend that is closer than
- 26:59Speaker 1: the brother. That wasn't Jesus that they were talking about.
- 27:02Speaker 1: They were talking about human beings. And so I think
- 27:05Speaker 1: we should understand that covenant relationships are ordained by Heaven
- 27:10Speaker 1: and God loves us through people. But it's just a
- 27:13Speaker 1: matter of who are the people were saying yes to
- 27:16Speaker 1: Because the adversary the appoint the opponent that he also
- 27:20Speaker 1: uses people, So make sure you say yes to the
- 27:23Speaker 1: right people. Wow, you know, um nothing that I expected
- 27:28Speaker 1: this from you. Uh, and that don't apologize. Uh, it's
- 27:34Speaker 1: been an inspirational but the the whole prospect of would
- 27:38Speaker 1: you say it is faith. When you was at Macy's
- 27:41Speaker 1: with Shamika, your girl, you're you're ride or die career,
- 27:45Speaker 1: you know, Dubai. I'm just we're just calling out some
- 27:48Speaker 1: countries that y'all went to, you know, in West Africa,
- 27:51Speaker 1: you know, to let you know you both read the book.
- 27:52Speaker 1: You know, just this be cause you thought I was stumbling.
- 27:55Speaker 1: You know, I'm not reading nothing. I'm not reading nothing.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just I'm just coming from you know,
- 27:59Speaker 1: God's That's all. That's all I'm doing right here. Thank
- 28:05Speaker 1: you so much. I think it was it was a
- 28:08Speaker 1: It was a faith piece for sure, because um it,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I looked at it as spam. When my cousin Keisha
- 28:15Speaker 1: sent it to me, I was like, girl, you know
- 28:17Speaker 1: how they send those chain text messages and they say
- 28:20Speaker 1: signed up for this, and I'm like, I'm not signing
- 28:22Speaker 1: up for this like it was just like whatever. So
- 28:24Speaker 1: I really wasn't expecting every opportunity, even this book opportunity,
- 28:29Speaker 1: if you allow me to use that as a reference point.
- 28:31Speaker 1: The opportunity was in an email account that I just
- 28:35Speaker 1: had put aside for spam. But something told me, and
- 28:39Speaker 1: you know, again, excuse me, I'm a church girl. So
- 28:42Speaker 1: you know how the scene the season says, they say, girl,
- 28:44Speaker 1: that wasn't something that was the whole a goals. But
- 28:47Speaker 1: something told me to go and check the email and
- 28:50Speaker 1: here I am bumping into a book opportunity. And so
- 28:54Speaker 1: I definitely think it was divine. But I think and
- 28:58Speaker 1: I believe that God uses people to hand you what
- 29:03Speaker 1: belongs to you, that he gives you those moments. And
- 29:06Speaker 1: that's why I said it in that chapter, Um, God
- 29:08Speaker 1: as my agent, because sometimes you know pr management they do.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I mean, believe me when I say they put in
- 29:15Speaker 1: the hard work and it has everything to do with
- 29:18Speaker 1: where we're going and where we are. But sometimes God
- 29:21Speaker 1: does things so that only he can get the glory.
- 29:24Speaker 1: And so I will say, you know, God took me there,
- 29:27Speaker 1: but there was some other moments where I had to
- 29:29Speaker 1: work for it. So even in the word. It says
- 29:32Speaker 1: you gotta put action to your faith so you can
- 29:34Speaker 1: believe a thing, but what you're gonna do when you
- 29:37Speaker 1: get there? So a lot of us are like, oh,
- 29:39Speaker 1: I want this, I want that, I want this, I
- 29:41Speaker 1: want that, But are you ready for it? Is your
- 29:43Speaker 1: character gonna keep you there? Is your work ethic gonna
- 29:46Speaker 1: keep you there? So I definitely think it is two
- 29:49Speaker 1: things that are colliding together, and it is my faith
- 29:52Speaker 1: and my action. I'm just I've been loving it. You know,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I rarely do I have interviews. Where's a motivational? This
- 29:59Speaker 1: motivation in the interview right here, you're just dropping these nuggs.
- 30:02Speaker 1: I was just sitting back on do your thing. You're
- 30:04Speaker 1: do your thing? What do I pass to play? What
- 30:06Speaker 1: do I pass to play? Because you are dropping scriptures,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you're dropping the truth. But more importantly, you've written an
- 30:12Speaker 1: amazing book, big, bold, and beautiful, Owning the woman God
- 30:16Speaker 1: made I love this part Owning the woman God made
- 30:19Speaker 1: you to be. That's it's not about your mistakes that
- 30:22Speaker 1: you made in the past. It's not about what people
- 30:24Speaker 1: think of you now, it's who what do you think
- 30:26Speaker 1: of yourself? And that's what this journey is about in
- 30:29Speaker 1: this book, because if every woman who reads this book,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I'll just tell you the woman because I'm talking. I
- 30:34Speaker 1: gro up with six sisters, I have only one child.
- 30:37Speaker 1: She's female. My daughter love her to death, and and
- 30:41Speaker 1: I love what you've done because you're given her an
- 30:43Speaker 1: opportunity to read an inspirational, motivational I would say, uh, book,
- 30:48Speaker 1: you know of entrepreneurship and based on your memoir, and
- 30:53Speaker 1: you was on enough, honest enough to tell us share
- 30:55Speaker 1: some of your stories. And all stories aren't good stories,
- 30:59Speaker 1: but if they told for the reason, they are all blessing.
- 31:02Speaker 1: And I considered this book of blessing. Thank you, Thank
- 31:05Speaker 1: you so much, and I appreciate you supporting me in
- 31:08Speaker 1: both in both fields and with the music we talked
- 31:12Speaker 1: and now with the book, we're talking Forgetting three three,
- 31:15Speaker 1: the movie, the music, the moving forward for the clothing
- 31:18Speaker 1: line eleven and sixty the music, you know, the movie
- 31:23Speaker 1: and not this amazing book. I'm dropping it in my
- 31:25Speaker 1: news letter, I'm dropping it on my social media again.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Thank you for coming on my show, Money Making Conversations. Uh.
- 31:32Speaker 1: It's gonna premiere uh nationally uh TV and May and
- 31:37Speaker 1: so I'm I'm I'm I'm we're gonna drop this early
- 31:40Speaker 1: now because I want to drop it down the time
- 31:42Speaker 1: of your book, but I'm gonna also re air this
