- 2:00Speaker 1: President and CEO of The Accord Group, Sonia Jackson. Miles. Hello,
- 2:08Speaker 1: good morning, good morning, good morning the sorority girl. You
- 2:11Speaker 1: know family mother too, straight out of Cincinnati. Birthday girl.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm one to day and you look beautiful.
- 2:22Speaker 1: You look beautiful, and those kids are about to catch you.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Every two boys about to catch you now, so you
- 2:26Speaker 1: better even start sprinting because they're about to catch you.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Thank you so much for having man. Absolutely thank you
- 2:34Speaker 1: for being on my show. You're an amazing person of
- 2:36Speaker 1: our relationship ship started several years ago at the Disney
- 2:40Speaker 1: Dreamer's Academy with Stephen Deep Harvey. I found it with
- 2:44Speaker 1: the Disney and will fly one hundred kids from around
- 2:47Speaker 1: the country, um, boys and girls. Unlike the boys camp
- 2:52Speaker 1: we had, which was only featuring uh males, this camp
- 2:55Speaker 1: feature boys and girls and parents could live in father
- 3:00Speaker 1: could be in the household, and there's really an enlightening experience.
- 3:03Speaker 1: UH tell people why you did that the Disney Dreams Academy,
- 3:07Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, it was. You know when I first
- 3:10Speaker 1: met you, I was an executive at Procter and Gamble,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and you know, just wanted to ensure that I was
- 3:17Speaker 1: spending time doing the things that brought me joy as
- 3:21Speaker 1: executives and leaders. A lot of times we don't even
- 3:24Speaker 1: know what brings this joy, and so I wanted to
- 3:27Speaker 1: make sure that I could participate in a program that
- 3:30Speaker 1: really aligned with my core values. And when um the
- 3:35Speaker 1: leaders over at us and said, hey, we have something
- 3:37Speaker 1: that we think the Sister Accord would sit very nicely into,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I said, sign me up. You know I heard about
- 3:44Speaker 1: what you all were doing. It was such and it
- 3:46Speaker 1: is such an amazing program that's transforming the lives of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the parents and the students. Absolutely, it's a brand that
- 3:55Speaker 1: to be associated with Disney in general. The Giant Mouse,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you know. Let you know that that was a stamp
- 4:01Speaker 1: of approval of what we was attempting to do, not
- 4:03Speaker 1: only our community but around the country. Now, when I
- 4:07Speaker 1: met you, your platform was called the Sister of Cord.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Now as the Accord Group. Please tell us why it's
- 4:15Speaker 1: been renamed or what's what's is the as the mission
- 4:17Speaker 1: statement been renamed with it? Right? Oh see, I love you, Sean.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You have such amazing question. Um. So, when I first
- 4:26Speaker 1: left my role at Proctor and Gamble, I launched with
- 4:30Speaker 1: the Sister, of course, and I often tell my clients
- 4:34Speaker 1: launch with your strongest value proposition. So I decided that
- 4:41Speaker 1: Sisterhood and the things that I was seeing in the
- 4:43Speaker 1: workplace and and hearing about its schools, that girls and
- 4:48Speaker 1: women weren't getting along, they were not supporting each other,
- 4:51Speaker 1: and so I really wanted to use my voice to
- 4:54Speaker 1: change the narrative for that. So I launched with the
- 4:56Speaker 1: Sister Accord. And then I started working so much with men,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and was working so much with men even in corporate America,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I'm like, they're not going to resonate with the Sister
- 5:06Speaker 1: of course, so the name of my company it just extended.
- 5:10Speaker 1: It's the Sister of Courd LLC dB A, doing business
- 5:14Speaker 1: as the Accord Group LLC. Because I spent so much
- 5:17Speaker 1: time coaching men as well CEOs and executives in corporate America,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and I think that's important that that's why I wanted
- 5:25Speaker 1: to You do have to take some time to talk
- 5:27Speaker 1: about your brand. I know the first time you came
- 5:29Speaker 1: on my show, which was amazing, but I didn't really
- 5:32Speaker 1: get into And I love the fact that there's a transition,
- 5:34Speaker 1: there's an extended of your extension of your brand. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: always tell people that never you kind of like reinvented
- 5:40Speaker 1: your company reinvented your brand to extend. Look at my
- 5:43Speaker 1: CD you you're a natural motivator, so I thought when
- 5:46Speaker 1: you always admire what you do, but I felt that
- 5:49Speaker 1: there was a limited presentation because you're talking to everybody.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And when I when did that dawn on you that
- 5:55Speaker 1: you should expand your brand? And a lot of people,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you know, get nervous about you know, well, you know
- 6:00Speaker 1: what people think I'm I'm changing, I'm a selling out
- 6:02Speaker 1: and reaching a core group that I'm not familiar with.
- 6:05Speaker 1: But you come from Proctor and Gamble, a corporate background,
- 6:09Speaker 1: so you've been communicating with a worldly perspective of both
- 6:12Speaker 1: genders forever. So when did they When did that? When
- 6:15Speaker 1: did that click? When did that click in? When I
- 6:18Speaker 1: was putting together a proposal one a CEO had asked
- 6:23Speaker 1: me to put together a proposal for UM doing some
- 6:27Speaker 1: executive coaching and doing some leadership coaching for the organization,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and you know, and I knew that it was going
- 6:34Speaker 1: to be both men and women, right, And so I
- 6:36Speaker 1: looked at this and I said, oh my gosh, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I got to do something here that makes sure that
- 6:43Speaker 1: I don't alienate anyone or that you know, the men
- 6:46Speaker 1: that I would be talking to wouldn't say, well, she's
- 6:49Speaker 1: not talking to me because I'm not a sister. So
- 6:54Speaker 1: that's when it really dawned on me. And so I
- 6:56Speaker 1: went and and register changed and updated my name so
- 7:03Speaker 1: that it could be more encompassing of what I was
- 7:05Speaker 1: really doing. Now that's really important that you because that
- 7:08Speaker 1: that is so true that you admitted that to yourself.
- 7:11Speaker 1: You know a lot of people we need. The first
- 7:13Speaker 1: thing is I don't want to embarrass myself. I don't
- 7:15Speaker 1: want to change making people believe I made a mistake
- 7:18Speaker 1: in my platform. But you said, hey, look, if I'm
- 7:21Speaker 1: gonna resonate with all male and female in this room,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I can't alienate a certain portion saying but she was good.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But I got nothing out of it. When you naturally know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: when you naturally know that everything that you're talking about
- 7:32Speaker 1: is very relatable, absolutely, and so it's all what we were.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The only thing I did was I just built on
- 7:40Speaker 1: the foundation. The core is still there, and so you
- 7:44Speaker 1: operate an excellence with the core so that you can
- 7:47Speaker 1: attract and people can really engage with what you're talking about,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and then you find ways to pivot and expand from there.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I want to talk about this, Okay of de a
- 8:00Speaker 1: core Group, which is doing business as you have three
- 8:04Speaker 1: things I wanted to bring out because this shows about entrepreneurship,
- 8:07Speaker 1: is about people understand the leneos who are listening to
- 8:09Speaker 1: the show. Three areas leadership development, employee engagement, and team building.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Can you expound I'm gonna ask you to expound on
- 8:17Speaker 1: each one of those. So I didn't with leadership development
- 8:20Speaker 1: that you offer under your consultancy. Yeah. So one of
- 8:25Speaker 1: the things that was really important to me is I
- 8:28Speaker 1: was building my career. And I started my career at
- 8:31Speaker 1: Ford Murder Company when I left Florida and m University.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I was there for thirteen years and then I went
- 8:37Speaker 1: to the Gillette Company, and I wasn't there in Boston
- 8:40Speaker 1: very long before Proctor and Gamble acquired Gillette and I
- 8:44Speaker 1: had to most to Cincinnati. And so one of the
- 8:48Speaker 1: things that was really important to me when I first
- 8:51Speaker 1: started my career was understanding who I was at my
- 8:57Speaker 1: core so that I could operate in it. Because when
- 9:00Speaker 1: you drive and operate in our authenticity, that's when the
- 9:04Speaker 1: magic happens. And so I really wanted to help people
- 9:08Speaker 1: understand what my leadership journey was when I started my career,
- 9:15Speaker 1: this whole notion of compassionate leadership and servant leadership did
- 9:19Speaker 1: not exist. I had to create it for myself with
- 9:21Speaker 1: Sean because I didn't see what I wanted. I didn't
- 9:26Speaker 1: see it because people kept telling me, well, you can't
- 9:29Speaker 1: get to know your employees, you can't focus too much
- 9:32Speaker 1: on employees, you can't do this, and you can't do that.
- 9:35Speaker 1: They kept telling me what I couldn't do. But what
- 9:37Speaker 1: I saw, because the automotive business is a very tough business,
- 9:42Speaker 1: what I saw was leaders pounding on the table, screaming, cursing.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I didn't do any of that. None of that was
- 9:49Speaker 1: authentically who I was. So I knew that I couldn't
- 9:52Speaker 1: operate that way. And I said to my leaders, I said, now,
- 9:55Speaker 1: if this is the leadership style that can win in
- 9:59Speaker 1: this environment, this is not gonna be for me. So
- 10:01Speaker 1: I made a choice very early on in my career
- 10:05Speaker 1: of how my brand, how I was going to show up,
- 10:08Speaker 1: and how I was going to serve, and that I
- 10:10Speaker 1: was there to serve. That it wasn't about me as
- 10:12Speaker 1: a leader, and the most importantly, how you was gonna
- 10:16Speaker 1: lead correct how you I wanted to own the whole
- 10:19Speaker 1: that thought right quick because in our next break fifty
- 10:22Speaker 1: one Ways to Love Your Children, We're gonna go in
- 10:24Speaker 1: detail about that because she two weeks ago when she
- 10:26Speaker 1: was in Atlanta, she personally handed me the book and
- 10:29Speaker 1: we want to talk about the team building, but more importantly,
- 10:31Speaker 1: fifty one Ways to Love your Children. I need a
- 10:34Speaker 1: bigger version of this so I can put it on
- 10:35Speaker 1: my table. Were right back with more money making conversations.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Keep women and everybody keep winning. Money making conversation is
- 10:41Speaker 1: your show because this Rae Sean McDonald, we're back on online.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Is the birthday girl. I gotta because you know when
- 10:48Speaker 1: this goes out, because I'm gonna go on podcast. We
- 10:50Speaker 1: want everybody know this show really was dedicated to Sonya
- 10:54Speaker 1: Jackson Miles because of her birthday. Birthday, straight out sisting
- 10:57Speaker 1: that straight out sist now and then you have now
- 11:01Speaker 1: two weeks ago. She was the reason why I engaged
- 11:03Speaker 1: so well with her because she's, Uh, when you have
- 11:06Speaker 1: six sisters and you meet somebody who's naturally personal like
- 11:08Speaker 1: her she is, and she's a mom and and she's
- 11:11Speaker 1: out there traveling, so I know her heart is someplace,
- 11:14Speaker 1: but she knows she has to deal with the issues
- 11:16Speaker 1: of her career and that's what she's dealing with to
- 11:19Speaker 1: create a book before we get into the fifth doing
- 11:23Speaker 1: Ways to Love Your your Children. And I want to
- 11:26Speaker 1: tell everybody, this book is like a you know, it's
- 11:28Speaker 1: a it's a you're watching online. I'm holding it up. Um.
- 11:33Speaker 1: This book is like a it should be on my table.
- 11:37Speaker 1: So this is a requesting I need a bigger version
- 11:40Speaker 1: of this book and I'm willing to pay whatever that
- 11:44Speaker 1: charges because the pictures are amazing. And I hope you're
- 11:49Speaker 1: posting some of the motivational quote or the quoture along
- 11:52Speaker 1: with the photos online and if you do, let me
- 11:55Speaker 1: let me know so I can share them on my
- 11:57Speaker 1: Facebook page because they're they're so personalble, they're so incredible,
- 12:02Speaker 1: and they're so inspiring. And that's and it's all tied
- 12:04Speaker 1: to your children. I have a one year old daughter.
- 12:07Speaker 1: You know, I don't care what I'm doing, what I'm
- 12:09Speaker 1: a business meeting I'm in. When she calls, I pick
- 12:12Speaker 1: up the phone because I know she had a point
- 12:14Speaker 1: in her life where I don't want, you know, her
- 12:18Speaker 1: making a decision because the reason she calls, she called
- 12:20Speaker 1: me for a reason just gonna call love your dad.
- 12:24Speaker 1: But there's a reason she's calling. And what what you need,
- 12:28Speaker 1: baby girl? And and so that's why I really love
- 12:30Speaker 1: this book that you put out because I know children
- 12:32Speaker 1: are the key. And when I see situations with children
- 12:35Speaker 1: that don't go well, you know where George are gonna
- 12:37Speaker 1: being abused, I always say, they have to be here.
- 12:41Speaker 1: These children that ask to be here, they are blank slates.
- 12:44Speaker 1: All they know is instant love. All they want is
- 12:47Speaker 1: to to get what you can teach them. And they
- 12:50Speaker 1: hold on to those values and those those those moments
- 12:53Speaker 1: that you share with them emotionally. And that's why I
- 12:57Speaker 1: love is real big on her book, Ladies and Gentlemen's
- 12:59Speaker 1: real big. It's like Valentine's love on this book is.
- 13:04Speaker 1: So before we get into a book, let's talk a
- 13:06Speaker 1: little about employee engagement U that you do in your consultancy,
- 13:10Speaker 1: which is the Sister Accord uh d B A deal
- 13:13Speaker 1: Core Group UH Employment and Employment, Employee Engagement and team building. Yes,
- 13:19Speaker 1: well there are statistics. Now I'm gonna blow you away
- 13:23Speaker 1: with this one. You probably already know this, but um,
- 13:26Speaker 1: you know, research shows that up to eighty five to
- 13:29Speaker 1: ninetent of in U and the us of employees in
- 13:34Speaker 1: a company are disengaged. Did you hear Did you hear that? Absolutely?
- 13:39Speaker 1: And I believe that. I mean, think about why you
- 13:43Speaker 1: can't meet your profitability targets, think about why your efficiency
- 13:46Speaker 1: isn't there in your productivity if employees are disengaged. And
- 13:51Speaker 1: so I spend a lot of time with companies helping
- 13:56Speaker 1: them understand the kinds of cultures uh that they can
- 13:59Speaker 1: estab lish. To really engage employees, have people understand what
- 14:05Speaker 1: their role is in the company very clearly, because I
- 14:09Speaker 1: believe it or not, a lot of times people aren't
- 14:11Speaker 1: really clear about their roles. But give people some opportunities
- 14:16Speaker 1: and some tools to really bring their gifts to the
- 14:19Speaker 1: table be engaged. Loneliness in the workplace is real, particularly
- 14:24Speaker 1: if you think differently uh than your colleagues or your boss,
- 14:28Speaker 1: or you you look differently, it can be a very
- 14:30Speaker 1: lonely place. And so employee engagement just is about getting
- 14:34Speaker 1: these cultures right so that everyone can win and everyone
- 14:38Speaker 1: can be engaged, all hands on deck. And then team building.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I spent a lot of time with my Great Leaders
- 14:45Speaker 1: have Great Relationship series where I am talking about how
- 14:49Speaker 1: teams can come together across the company. It was interesting
- 14:53Speaker 1: that you was talking about disengagement. I had h very
- 14:56Speaker 1: talented entrepreneur on the phone on the show, came in
- 14:59Speaker 1: my studio live. He has a book called Leader Farming.
- 15:03Speaker 1: For his book is about trying to cultivate uh, you know,
- 15:06Speaker 1: play on words, farming, farming leaves, developing leaders. And in
- 15:10Speaker 1: that book he was saying, and he's a franchise owner
- 15:13Speaker 1: for a Chick fil A, and he was talking about
- 15:15Speaker 1: he was talking about the millennial population because their whole
- 15:18Speaker 1: that's what this whole book is about, trying to engage
- 15:21Speaker 1: this population, because this is a population that says, you
- 15:24Speaker 1: will work for me. Okay, I'm an entrepreneur, you will
- 15:29Speaker 1: work for me. So they really struggle with this whole
- 15:32Speaker 1: loyalty and how long I'm gonna be here? How long
- 15:35Speaker 1: I should be there at this job because this is
- 15:38Speaker 1: not a long term. I'm not here at this location
- 15:41Speaker 1: to get the gold watch. I'm here at you like
- 15:43Speaker 1: sustain a level of income, get my real goal in perspective,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and get out. And he said that the struggle is
- 15:51Speaker 1: trying to get that that that mentality that I'm only
- 15:55Speaker 1: his short term, maybe through college, maybe just six months,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I get my feet right and I get this up
- 16:00Speaker 1: and rolling, get this whole idea and digital that I'm
- 16:03Speaker 1: trying to put out that rolling because social media has
- 16:05Speaker 1: changed that platform, that platform of engage me, because you
- 16:08Speaker 1: have people out there who have developed their own brands
- 16:11Speaker 1: that you've hired, and they feel that their brand is
- 16:15Speaker 1: really more important than you hiring them. Absolutely, absolutely. And
- 16:19Speaker 1: I spent a lot of time with millennials because you know,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I told you on twenty one, right, and so I
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, I spent a lot of time with them.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I understand them, and I wish that I had my
- 16:30Speaker 1: generation had a little more of of how they think
- 16:34Speaker 1: about things, because we just accepted stuff. It could have
- 16:37Speaker 1: been raggedy and ratchet, but we still excepted autely. Now
- 16:42Speaker 1: tell us about that. I like that. So tell us
- 16:44Speaker 1: about the fifty one Ways to Love your Children. Why
- 16:46Speaker 1: did you write this book? Well, it's interesting. So, um
- 16:51Speaker 1: one of my programs that has been incorporated into Disney
- 16:55Speaker 1: Dreams Academy is my dream marking program, and Dreamworking is
- 17:01Speaker 1: my attempt at solving helping people overcome dream phobia. Now,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I created the word dream phobia, So the definition is, um,
- 17:13Speaker 1: you know, the ridiculous and absurd fear of playing full
- 17:17Speaker 1: out in life because you are more concerned with stayings
- 17:20Speaker 1: small to please other people, or staying or playing its
- 17:24Speaker 1: safe to please yourself. I was playing its safe kind
- 17:28Speaker 1: of girl for many years, and so I wanted to
- 17:31Speaker 1: help people understand the process of how I brought my
- 17:34Speaker 1: dream to life, taking my dream from my heart to
- 17:36Speaker 1: my head, to my hands and to my feet. And
- 17:39Speaker 1: so dream walking, um was a you know, a big
- 17:43Speaker 1: part of it. It is a big part of Disney
- 17:45Speaker 1: Dreaming Academy and for my consultancy, and I wanted to
- 17:51Speaker 1: really address the things that are dream killers, that get
- 17:55Speaker 1: in the way of people really operating in what they've
- 17:59Speaker 1: been called and created to do. And that's um what
- 18:03Speaker 1: fifty one Way to Love Your Children is all about.
- 18:05Speaker 1: A lot of the stuff that we carry as adults
- 18:08Speaker 1: happened to us in childhood. And a lot of times
- 18:12Speaker 1: parents don't even realize it. It's what they say and
- 18:14Speaker 1: what they don't say, it's what they do and what
- 18:16Speaker 1: they don't do. And so I wanted to start a
- 18:19Speaker 1: conversation about how we must invest in love and take
- 18:25Speaker 1: care of our children, because in so many instances, if
- 18:28Speaker 1: you turn on the news, you'll see the opposite happening.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Our children are dying at the hands of their parents,
- 18:34Speaker 1: are being abused, neglected, and so I wanted to use
- 18:38Speaker 1: my voice and my platform to really talk about what
- 18:40Speaker 1: we were going to do about it. It's important that
- 18:42Speaker 1: you did it. Here's a statement that I love about
- 18:44Speaker 1: the book or throughout the book is, first of all,
- 18:47Speaker 1: the photos are so emotionally charged. Okay, I love this book.
- 18:56Speaker 1: And then you have little sections where you can just
- 18:59Speaker 1: write notes, and that's the part she's talking about when
- 19:01Speaker 1: you get memories what were you doing when you're we're
- 19:04Speaker 1: a teenager? What do you remember about your childhood? So
- 19:06Speaker 1: you can implement these these emotional or these memories into
- 19:10Speaker 1: raising your child to day or what things what what? What?
- 19:13Speaker 1: What failed you? You fail failed you that you can
- 19:16Speaker 1: fix because I'll have a statement. Always tell people that
- 19:19Speaker 1: what you learn in your twenties, I will tell people
- 19:21Speaker 1: you wan't to know about your life you want to
- 19:22Speaker 1: play in your future. I always feel you have to
- 19:24Speaker 1: look back in your past. That's a defining moment in
- 19:27Speaker 1: your path allows you to move forward. But if you
- 19:30Speaker 1: set up and say I'm gonna figure it out, right now,
- 19:32Speaker 1: I don't think you can have long term success. So
- 19:34Speaker 1: I tell people, what you learn in your twenties, whatever
- 19:37Speaker 1: you skill you learn your twenties is what you're gonna
- 19:39Speaker 1: be making money with in your forties and fifties. That
- 19:42Speaker 1: thirty year, thirty year period of growth is a boy
- 19:45Speaker 1: the gaining that experience, so you can't make money. So
- 19:47Speaker 1: when I read this book and I was able to
- 19:49Speaker 1: see those little chapters or those markings, that's saying, hey,
- 19:52Speaker 1: write something about what happened to you. I went, she
- 19:56Speaker 1: got it, she understands it. And this this is something
- 19:59Speaker 1: I just need a bigger version. I'm just telling you
- 20:01Speaker 1: right now, all right, brother, we're gonna happen. You know.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I write that check seriously because this book is so beautiful,
- 20:08Speaker 1: Because I got this giant book with Will Smith, all

- 20:16Speaker 1: a big version of this book next to it because
- 20:18Speaker 1: these are everyday people talking about loving their children, experiencing
- 20:22Speaker 1: their lifestyle in a very relatable fashion. Tell us where
