- 0:00John chapter 8 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives early in the
- 0:04morning. He came again into the temple,
- 0:06and all the people were coming to Him, and He sat down and
- 0:08began to teach them. The scribes and the Pharisees
- 0:11brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in
- 0:14the center of the court, they said to him, Teacher, this woman
- 0:16has been caught in adultery. In the very act now in the law,
- 0:21Moses commanded us to stone such women.
- 0:23What then do you say? They were saying this testing
- 0:26Him so that they might have grounds for accusing Him.
- 0:29But Jesus stooped down and with his finger wrote on the ground.
- 0:32But when they persisted in asking him, he straightened up
- 0:35and said to them, He who is without sin among you, let him
- 0:38be the first to throw a stone at her.
- 0:41Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
- 0:44When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning
- 0:47with the older ones, and he was left alone.
- 0:50And the woman where she was in the center of the court,
- 0:53straightening up, Jesus said to her, Woman, where are they?
- 0:57Did no one condemn you? She said no one Lord.
- 1:01And Jesus said, I do not condemn you either.
- 1:04From now on sin no more than Jesus again spoke to them,
- 1:08saying, I am the light of the world.
- 1:10He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have
- 1:13the light of life. So the Pharisees said to him,
- 1:16You are testifying about yourself.
- 1:18Your testimony is not true. Jesus answered and said to them,
- 1:22Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know
- 1:27where I came from and where I am going.
- 1:29But you do not know where I come from or where I am going.
- 1:33You judge according to the flesh.
- 1:35I am not judging anyone. But even if I do judge, my
- 1:39judgement is true, for I am not alone in it, but I and the
- 1:43Father who sent me. Even in your law it has been
- 1:46written that the testimony of two men is true.
- 1:49I am he who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent
- 1:52me testifies about me. So they were saying to him,
- 1:55Where is your Father? Jesus answered, You know neither
- 1:58me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know
- 2:01my Father also. These words he spoke in the
- 2:04treasury as he taught in the temple, and no one seized him,
- 2:07because his hour had not yet come.
- 2:10Then he said again to them, I go away, and you will seek me, and
- 2:13will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot
- 2:16come. So the Jews were saying, Surely
- 2:18he will not kill himself, will he?
- 2:20Since he says, Where I am going, you cannot come.
- 2:23And he was saying to them, You are from below, I am from above,
- 2:26you are of this world. I am not of this world.
- 2:29Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins.
- 2:32For unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.
- 2:36So they were saying to him, Who are you?
- 2:39Jesus said to them, What have I been saying to you from the
- 2:41beginning? I have many things to speak and
- 2:44to judge concerning you, but he who sent me is true, and the
- 2:47things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world.
- 2:51They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the
- 2:53Father. So Jesus said, when you lift up
- 2:56the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do
- 2:59nothing on my own initiative, but I speak these things as the
- 3:02Father taught me, and he who sent me is with me.
- 3:05He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are
- 3:08pleasing to Him. As He spoke these things, many
- 3:11came to believe in Him. So Jesus was saying to those
- 3:14Jews who had believed Him, if you continue in my word, then
- 3:17you are truly disciples of mine, and you will know the truth, and
- 3:20the truth will make you free. They answered him.
- 3:23We are Abraham's descendants and have never yet been enslaved to
- 3:26anyone. How is it that you say you will
- 3:28become free? Jesus answered them truly,
- 3:31truly. I say to you, everyone who
- 3:33commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the
- 3:37house forever. The sun does remain forever.
- 3:40So if the sun makes you free, you will be free indeed.
- 3:44I know that you are Abraham's descendants.
- 3:46Yet you seek to kill me, because My word has no place in you.
- 3:50I speak the things which I have seen with my father.
- 3:53Therefore you also do the things which you have heard from your
- 3:56father. They answered and said to him,
- 3:58Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them, If you are
- 4:01Abraham's children, do the deeds of Abraham.
- 4:04But as it is, you are seeking to kill me, a man who has told you
- 4:07the truth which I heard from God.
- 4:09This Abraham did not do. You are doing the deeds of your
- 4:12Father. They said to him, We were not
- 4:15born of fornication, we have one Father, God.
- 4:19Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me,
- 4:22for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not
- 4:25even come on my own initiative, but He sent me.
- 4:28Why do you not understand what I'm saying?
- 4:31It is because you cannot hear my word.
- 4:33You are of your Father, the devil, and you want to do the
- 4:36desires of your father. He was a murderer from the
- 4:38beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no
- 4:41truth in Him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he
- 4:44speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of
- 4:47lies. But because I speak the truth,
- 4:50you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of
- 4:53sin? If I speak truth, why do you not
- 4:56believe me? He who is of God hears the words
- 4:59of God. For this reason you do not hear
- 5:02them, because you are not of God.
- 5:05The Jews answered and said to him, Do we not say rightly that
- 5:08you are a Samaritan and have a demon?
- 5:11Jesus answered, I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father and
- 5:15you dishonor me, but I do not seek my own glory.
- 5:18There is one who seeks and judges truly, truly.
- 5:21I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death.
- 5:25The Jews said to him, now we know that you have a demon.
- 5:28Abraham died and the prophets also, and you say, if anyone
- 5:32keeps my word, he will never taste death.
- 5:34Surely you're not greater than our father Abraham who died.
- 5:38The prophets died too. Whom do you make yourself out to
- 5:41be? Jesus answered.
- 5:43If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing.
- 5:46It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say He is our
- 5:50God, and you have not come to know him.
- 5:52But I know Him. And if I say that I do not know
- 5:55Him, I will be a liar like you. But I do know Him, and keep His
- 5:59word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to
- 6:02see my day, and he saw it and was glad.
- 6:05So the Jews said to him, You were not yet 50 years old, and
- 6:09have you seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, Truly,
- 6:12truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.
- 6:16Therefore they picked up stones to throw at him, But Jesus hid
- 6:20himself and went out of the temple.
